Raft Descriptive Writing
The white water crushes against the boat, almost as if it was waiting for us to make a wrong paddle
movement. The rapid we were going over was told to be considered a 5 and extremely dangerous.
One wrong move and you could get sucked under the rough water. High waves keep crashing
against our raft, keeping us constantly wet. On the bank of the river, rocks as tall as a small sky
scraper tower over us. There are eight of us in the raft, split up evenly along the sides of it. Our
guide sits in the very back with his single paddle, maneuvering the boat and watching out for
hazards ahead. The raft we are in is fairly old, but is still reliable. Gray patches are covering holes
that were probably caused by hitting a rock at a wrong angle. The boat is very sturdy and thick, but
is extremely flexible in order to allow us to easily pass over the different rapids. The boat maneuvers
perfectly as if it were an amusement park ride on a set track. The middle of the boat holds a box that
contains various items such as extra gear and a first aid kit in case of an emergency. The ride is
rough and the boat is almost always jerking up and down. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The water that is sprayed at us feels good against the heat of a West Virginia July. The guide looks
around for possible hazards and steers us away from them with the help of the paddle maneuvers we
had just learned an hour before. I look to my side and I can see a sharp steep cliff. I can squint my
eyes and actually see people rock climbing. It's something I can't see in Chicago. The color of the
cliff contrasts with the blue sky. Little metallic pieces of rock reflect off the sunlight and it makes it
look like the rock is sparkling. Above us is the New River Gorge Bridge. Almost 1000 feet in the air,
it watches us pass below

Tina Turner's 'Rolling Down The River'
Rolling Down the River Fascinated, I watched those big wheels turn, and I could almost hear Tina
Turner on the Riverboat Queen! The big wheels were turning, and I was thrilled to be exploring
Vancouver's first major highway, the Fraser River, by Paddle Wheeler. Usually, my preferred mode
of transportation is a sea kayak or canoe, but recently I had the opportunity to "supersize" my
watercraft and experience the Fraser in style. Launching near the River Market at New Westminster
Quay, I excitedly boarded the M.V. Native, an authentic replica of a sternwheeler that historically
navigated the waters of the Fraser River from 1863 to 1921. As I made way down the ramp, I felt as
though I was being transported back in time. Vivid images of pioneers, fur traders and gold miners
flashed before me. These magnificent sternwheelers were the workhorses of their time, carrying
freight and passengers along the Fraser. How exciting to be boarding one. ... Show more content on

Leaving the docks, we passed New Westminster's Pier Park and were afforded unique views of the
Railway Bridge, Skytrain Bridge and of course the Patullo Bridge. I wondered what the early
settlers would think of our modern day infrastructure, these marvels of steel and cables. Fighting the
current, we continued upstream. Our little vessel fought valiantly, yet the river seemed to flow
effortlessly almost gracefully. Enjoying the colours, sights and sounds, we carried on to the site of
the QayQayts summer village. We learned a little about the history and lifestyle of this First Nations
community, one of the smallest in Canada. Nearing Douglas Island, situated where the Fraser and
Pitt Rivers meet, we began our turn for home. I was captivated by the level of activity on the mighty
Fraser. Tugboats plied the waters; log booms lined the shores, factories and apartment buildings
towered above her banks and fishers tested their

Personal Narrative Analysis
Over the summer I went camping, and one of the activities I pursued was rafting. I am a very
competitive person, so I challenged my cousins to a friendly competition. We divided ourselves into
two teams of seven each to see which team would be the first to reach our destination on the river.
My group chose me to serve as the guide, which meant I was in charge of three important jobs. As
the guide I had to keep my raft from hitting large rocks, direct the right side and the left side
paddlers on how to maneuver each stroke, and ensure my group's safety.
It was a hot, humid day as the groups pulled their rafts into the cool Lehigh river. As we pulled into
the whitewater and jumped onto the raft, the noontime competition began. At this point,

Little Fish Research Paper
Little Fish There's a river on the edge of Missouri where my family and I camped. My uncle called it
"The ole' Roarin' River" because the river was always impossibly full of life and movement. My
cousin and I decided, on the edge of daybreak, that we should take a swim. We jumped in and my
petite self started to drift quickly downstream. My cousin yelled and motioned for me to swim. I
was so scared that I might drown but the internal fire in me was fueled by the terrifying and dire
situation. I made it to the edge of the river and climbed out yelling and jumping because I had done
what I never thought was possible. I fought the current. Here I am years later, from my head to my
toes I am brimming with uniqueness. The significance of that ... Show more content on

She went out one day with the intent of getting a job and doesn't come home without one. Her new
job at Vista Health was brutal and she often came home with bruises from he nearly insane patients
she had to deal with. The job was very demanding and she had to work over–night. Thankfully, my
dad was home during the evenings to be with us and on very rare occasions, he would cook us a
meal called 'Shoyu Chicken'. My mom decided to take some of the chicken to work for lunch;
people caught a whiff of it and asked her about it. She explained that it was my dad's one specialty
meal he learned after living on Hawaii for 17 years. The workers offered to pay her for some of the
chicken and it started to become a normal thing. The growing demand for the chicken had given my
mom and dad the idea to open a restaurant. Thus Hawaiian Brians was born. This sparked a new era
in my life and inspired me to keep moving forward to support my family in the jump from
bankruptcy to brick–and–mortar restaurant. This gave us a fresh start in life. There would be more
on the plate now not for just for my family but for me as well. We eventually pulled out of
bankruptcy because of the booming success of the business. I was given opportunities that exceeded
my expectations in youth. I got to go meet my family in Hawaii and learn more about college,

Narrative Essay On A River Runner
Sturgeon River Runner
I thought it was going to be a cool and relaxing river, but I was wrong. Finally, school was out and it
was time for fun and excitement during summer vacation, so my dad thought it was a good idea to
go camping and kayaking. Every summer our family goes on a trip to the Platte River. However,
when I was ten years old my parents decided to do something different and go to the Sturgeon River
instead. This would be one of the fastest and craziest river I have ever gone kayaking on.
We headed to Turtle Lake Campground, and finally arrived around noon so we still had plenty of
time to explore. Since I had never been there before I decided to check it out as soon as I could. I

"Cody!" My dad shouted as he seen me go head first into an ice cold rapid river. My dad dove in the
water right behind me and grabbed my arm as I was getting pulled under by the undertow and pulled
me up to shore.
"Cody are you ok?" My dad asked.
"Yes" I replied as I took my shoes off to drain the water out. My dad grabbed my kayak and he
flipped it over to drain the water out of it. I was really cold and scared while we were standing on
the shore of the river waiting for the water to drain back into the river, but I learned my lesson that
day and I still remember that episode whenever I go kayaking.
I've learned that I should never get to carried away when doing serious things because it could go
bad and have consequences. I had a lot of fun that day but if I would've taken more caution then It
could've had a different result. Whenever I go kayaking my dad and I still remember the accident

stranded on an island. We were safe until the tornado was over. It looked so much like Hollywood,
but we were the only ones there. We looked around and there were only three animals. We could
only see water and trees. We were like finally peace, but we were scared. We said this was only one
and a million chances to happen. I was on the island with Alex and William. We found three animals
and we all got to keep one. William got the pig that was small as a mouse. Alex got the rhino and he

friends and their kids on Lake of the Ozarks. There was this tube thing that was basically a couch in
the water. It fit four people comfortably, and has Great Big Mabel printed on the side. I was one of
the only girls on the boat, so I had to go with the smelly boys. I went with my brother Ryan, and my
friends Jedidiah and Aiden. My brother and I decided to go no hands for a little excitement.. The
driver of the boat, whose name was Jeff, was fairly talented and tried to throw us off. When you're

Persuasive Essay On Whitewater Canoeing
Many people love the excitement of extreme sports. One of those sports is whitewater canoeing,
which involves going over waterfalls and battling strong currents. The problem is that the canoe can
get wedged between rocks and stuff, or the person may be thrown into the freezing water. Some
precautions can be taken, like wearing life jackets and helmets, but the sport is still hazardous. Age
restrictions should be set for whitewater canoeing, because serious injuries or death may occur from
the river features like rocks, branches, and waterfalls. Whitewater canoeing is a very intense sport.
The rocks are dangerous, and people may get hit by their friends paddles if a collision knocks
someone out the boat. Spring water and ice water

Descriptive Essay : ' Just Around The River Bend '
"Just around the river–bend...Should I choose the smoothest course, steady as the beating drum?" If
you've ever heard this song from Pocahontas, then you know that this part of the song relates to
many aspects of life. This song reflects the decision that my best friend and I made this summer.
My best friend, Julia, and I are a very outdoorsy pair and are avid fishers. Naturally, our first choice
of entertainment is something outdoor related. We decided that the week I leave for my Colorado
trip, the day before her birthday, we decided that we would spend the whole day together. The plan
was that we wake up at 9am and kayak the Floyd River starting by Newkirk and ending in Alton
under the bridge, on the other side of Roadside. That day ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

There was two different ways to go, the longer path, which was the smoothest course that would add
on time or the path that was half the size but was rocky and would be like white water rafting on a
babbling brook. We, being the adventurous/amazing decision makers we are, chose the rockier part.
We paddled right and the water level started getting lower and lower to the point to where the
kayaks were so shallow where we were bottoming them out on rocks. The first thing that came to
mind was Julia, I think we picked the wrong path. By this time, it was too late to turn back so we
had to keep going forward. The kayaks were still getting stuck and wouldn't move anymore so we
had to get out and pull them behind us as our bare feet were prodded by the rocks that were as sharp
as knives. Our feet were getting stabbed by the rocks and were getting wrapped up in the mosses
and weeds. We got through the rocks and were on the other side to only realize that our net had
fallen out of the kayak. We left the kayaks and scurried through the rocks again to find it back at the
beginning of the rocks. Take the path less traveled they said, it'll be fun they said. (4) We quickly
noticed that the kayaks were free and were floating away. With much pain, we ran back over the
rocks and like the Jesus Christ Lizards on water (7). I remember us holding hands and looking at
each other and half laughing, have wincing at the pain, saying "I regret my life decisions," (3) and

April. Just because your brother fell once doesn't mean you will." Dad, who was sitting there quietly
beside me, said to me. Mom was looking out the window, not paying much attention. We were on
vacation in Colorado, and my parents talked into going white water rafting, the last thing I wanted to
do. "I know, but when you showed me that video of him falling into the whirlpool! How 'bout I stay
on the bus." I replied. I still didn't understand how my brother wasn't dead. "I don't want to fall into
a whirlpool" I added, with a worried tone. I had a nasty habit of overthinking things, and I didn't
want to let that ruin my vacation. "They will give you safety instructions before we go." Mom cut
in, still not looking at Dad and I. We pulled into a small gravel lot, and a flight of cement stairs
leading to the river. We got out of the bus, and I was tempted to hide under the seats. A dark haired
man with sunglasses, handed out the helmets and paddles. "My name is Tom, and I'm your
instructor. Let hurry and get to the raft." He said, putting on a life jacket. "Do we have to put on all
this gear?" I asked while he was explaining what everything was. "No just the waterproof jacket, life
jacket and helmet." He said, as he handed out some of the gear. We all grabbed our heavy things and
headed to a bus that would take us the place where we would start. "You scared?" The girl my

Whitewater West Industries CAse Study
Executive Summary
Geoffrey Chutter, owner of Whitewater Industries, has to relocate his fiberglass moulding business
to one of three locations he has in mind due to the need for expansion, complaints of residents
nearby the factory while he keeps in mind the importance of his aspects of operating systems. This
new factory must at least be 6040 square meters and be in an area with zoning regulations that allow
for fiberglass production
Whitewater West Industries has three proposed new locations; [1] the spacious Hiram–Walker plant
in Kelowna that needs some land renovations, [2] a complete new build that would result in a
perfect building, or [3] a location in Abbotsford that has potential to expand business into many
major cities. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Quantity: This aspect is important to note when relocating to ensure that the size of the plant will
have enough room to incorporate any of the current equipment to maintain the same standard of
quality, as well as purchasing new equipment with the intention of helping the company expand and
increase their sales. A lack of sufficient space to meet demands may result in a loss of revenue.
Price: Price of the products is not really a factor in this relocation, however the company should do
its best to keep the total cost of the move within the budget of the company so the price of their
fiberglass products does not rise, and potentially losing customers.
Alternative Analysis Whitewater West Industries has three possible relocation options to consider:
Kelowna ––– Hiram–Walker Plant
The Hiram–Walker plant is located only 25 kilometers from Kelowna and is the most spacious
facility of all three options and will allow them to keep their current workforce. Zoning has already
been approved to produce fiberglass since there are no residential buildings right beside the land –
this would also solve the problem of residents complaining of the odour coming from the plant. The
plant is located close to a major highway so naturally the ease of shipping and receiving products
would be increased because of the proximity to major transportation routes. The building is also
fire–safe, creating a safer workplace for the staff at WhiteWater West

Miami Whitewater Forest Case Study
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to collect data that can be used to assess the current status of a lake in
terms of stratification, productivity, succession, nutrient composition, transparency, and
management. The field site was 85 acre, man–made lake within Miami Whitewater Forest in "Great
Parks" of Hamilton County, Cincinnati, OH. Although the lake is man–made, it shares many
characteristics with that of natural lakes. The data collected regarding the current status of the lake
would then be compared against past, historical data to draw on any similarities or differences
between the lake then and now. Results demonstrated the lake to be stratified in the past and present
according to temperature and pH. Results from secchi disks ... Show more content on

Water was collected using a Wan Dorn Bottle (Lab Manual). There were approximately 20 students
that collected samples from the deepest part of the lake, and 20 students that collected samples from
the shallowest part of the lake. The shallower portion of the lake was closest to a golf course and
floating vegetation (Lab Manual). Five water collections were made at each location. From the deep
part of the lake, each of the five samples was taken at 1m; from the shallower part of the lake, each
of the five samples was taken at a 0.5m depth (Lab Manual). These water samples were collected
into 5 separate bottles, each labeled one through five. Bottle one had water nearest the surface,
whereas bottle five had water collected deeper in the lake. Bottles two through four were
intermediate levels of one and five. We used the water in the bottles labeled 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5, to
detect the temperature and test the pH of the water samples from the various depths of both
locations. Water from the labeled bottles 1, 3, and 5 were put into bottles labeled N1, N3, and N5,

How Does Living On A River Affect My Life On The Raft
As we drift down the river on our raft my mind begins to wander, I start looking back on all that I

unfathomable on the shore, being fully naked for example. It was on this very raft where I began to

Personal Narrative : My Life Of River Rafting
My life flashed before my eyes right before I was about to get crushed by a rock 10 feet taller than I

doesn't always mean everything is perfect. While I was rafting, the whole experience took a turn for
the worst. I was suddenly gasping for air as the malicious currents dragged me down wanting to trap
me in their home forever. My body weak and exhausted from being toyed around with by the water,
I fell into an unconscious state. I started to remember the car ride to my rafting destination. Upon
arriving, I was given my equipment and a set of instruction to follow. My sister, her friend and I
were paired up with our tour guide and headed on with our three hour journey across the Pacuare
River. Little did I know that my life was close to being put to an end. The rest is history, I was just
happy to make it out alive. River Rafting is known to be an extreme adventure activity. The
experience takes about three hours total. With usually a group of four, the people are placed in a
squared yellow raft with each person holding a paddle board. Depending on which river that is
chosen to raft, there are five levels. Level number one is when the current is peaceful and level
number five is when the current is at its strongest and can possibly flip your raft over. Sitting

Personal Narrative: The Shoshone River
As I am thrown from my raft into the rapids, I come to grips with reality. This is a situation I no
longer have control in, as Mother Nature has wrapped her arms around me. My thoughts run
rampant through my head, "Will I be alive three minutes from now?".
That afternoon, on the Shoshone River in the mountains of Wyoming, might have been my last. In
hindsight, I knew the raft was going to overturn. Having looked downstream, I saw the imminent
threat of the canyon wall. The raft guide yells "ALL IN," but the opposite occurs. The five of us are
tossed to the mercy of the waves. I do not recall hitting the wall; the only memory I possess is
looking back and seeing nothing but crashing waves on every side of me. Our entire crew was out of
view.

Personal Narrative: My Experience At The Manistee River
ZACH We were at the manistee river. I have never went tubing before. It was a hot day in the
summer. I was waiting for my tube to get blown up with air. My mom and stepdad's friends were
there. My mom's friends had an air pump to blow all of our tubes up with air. They plugged the air
pump into their car cigarette lighter. Then we all got our tubes out and brought them over to their
car. Then they turned on the air pump grabbed one of the tubes and started filling it up with air. After
one to two minutes the tube was all the way filled up with air. Then they started grabbing more tubes
and started filling them up with air. After about 30 to 50 minutes there was about 30 tubes and they
were all filled up with air. Then we all grabbed a tube

My Experience In School
There are about 180 days of school in a year and this was the last one of my 7th grade year. I had
just finished my 6th hour exam and I was instructed to help clean some of the basses. Once that was
done it was almost time to leave. As time winded down, I stood anxiously at the door waiting for the
bell to ring. When it rang, we all ran out of the school. Summer vacation had started. When I got
home, I finished packing up my clothes because the next day, my dad and I were going to Colorado.
When I woke up the next day, my dad and I got in the car and drove to Chicago. It took around 2
hours to drive to the airport, but after we arrived there, we checked our bags and went through
security. We then walked around the concourse for a while, got some food to eat and then sat down
in the waiting area located at our gate. After waiting for what seemed like 10 hours, our plane finally
arrived and we got on. The flight lasted around 3 hours, and when we finally touched down, we
waited for the plane to arrive at the gate.
Once we got there, we went to our hotel, walked around Denver and then went to a Colorado
Rockies baseball game. After this, we went back to our hotel and slept. We woke up the next day
and drove to Colorado Springs. The reason why we were going here was to go whitewater rafting. I
had never done this before and like most people, I was scared. When we got there, we had to sign in
because we made reservations and also we had to sign a waver. The fact that they made

Whitewaters an extraordinary water park with a variety of rides and activities. It had been a
sweltering hot summer day and this was my family's only way to cool off. At the time I was an
adorable six–year–old that whatever absolutely not take no for an answer. Boating around the park, I
was prepared to experience the day of flood but I was oblivious to the danger ahead for me. Vividly,
I could remember myself in my bathing suit, getting handed a transparent floaty by a white water
attendant for the lazy river. At first I dipped my foot into the refreshing coolness of the water, then
finally I sat on the life sized donut shaped floaty. Cruising down the water, I had no worries, I was

ready to have fun tubing. Unfortunately, we had to wait our turn. The minutes went past. We were

Persuasive Essay On Family Vacations
Do you need to plan a family vacation, but are uncertain where to start? Family vacations provide an
excellent chance to enjoy some quality time with your loved ones. The key is to choose the right
type of vacation for your particular needs. Here are some ideas to make your family getaways as
special as possible: 1. Beaches. While the expression "life's a beach" doesn't always apply, it
certainly can if you choose a trip to the beach as your family vacation. The beach provides plenty of
activities to keep your family busy for a week. The sand and surf seem to create a magical blend that
can relax our minds and bodies. On the beach or in the water you can swim, surf, fish, build a
sandcastle, fly a kite, or collect shells as you take a stroll. Besides spending time at the beach itself,
there's also usually a wide array of fun activities nearby the beach. That includes mini golf, go–
carting, golf and tennis, and so on. 2. Camping. This is an oldie–but–goodie vacation that can
provide a barrel of fun for you and your family. Besides the camping itself, these trips can also
include activities such as fishing, hiking and horseback riding. You and your family can enjoy
camping trips at various locations, including mountains and beaches. While camping can provide an
outstanding chance for your children to have fun and learn, the outdoors can create several potential
dangers. So it's crucial for your son or daughter to be aware of these dangers, before you go on your
vacation. 3.

Flight 403 Research Paper
"Last call for flight 403, flight 403." My trip started off with a sprint to our gate. My aunt, cousins,
and I made it to our plane as they were closing the doors. Thank God we were all runners because if
we would have made it there a few seconds later, we would have missed our flight. I sat next to my
cousin, Nicole, and we were about to fly into an unforgettable trip.
My aunt, cousins, and I were going to Colorado! We met my Aunt Charlene's boyfriend, Mike, at the
airport in Colorado. We went to his parent's house to stay for the night, We played with their games
for hours. We also watched some movies and fell asleep.

We went on a four and a half mile bike ride. It was all fun in games until we reached our second
mile. The rest of our bike ride was filled with hills. Everything was uphill from now. Our legs felt
like jello. After the long journey, we returned our bikes and drove to Aspen, Colorado. A bus took us
to the start of the hikes and takes us back to the lobby area. It was about a nine mile drive. At the
beginning of the hike, you get an option of whether you want to take the scenery hike or the crater
hike. Of course, Mike makes us go through the crater one. We had to hike up that mountain filled
with huge rocks and streams. It was one of the hardest things to do in my life because not only was I
tripping over the rocks and branches, but there were giant poisonous spiders hiding everywhere. It
took us about an hour and thirty minutes to reach the top. We lost track of time and we had to get
back to the bus in 40 minutes or else it will leave without us and we would have to walk 9 miles
back to the car. We practically ran down that mountain. Of course, my little cousin trips from behind
me and we slid into the stream. I am not going to lie, that cold water felt really good, but we were
soaked. I ran the rest of the way down with heavy, squishy shoes. I did not think it was possible to

Narrative Persuasive Essay : The Life Of My Life
My life flashed before my eyes just before two rocks ten feet taller than my own height were going
to crush me. This story will tell the time I went white river rafting and almost died. Being on
vacation does not always mean everything is perfect. While I was on vacation rafting, the whole
experience took a turn for the worst. Gasping for air, the malicious currents started dragging me
down wanting to trap me in their home forever. My body weak and exhausted from being toyed
around with by the water, I fell into an unconscious state. I started to remember the car ride to my
rafting destination. Upon arriving, everyone was given their equipment and a set of instructions to
follow. My sister Rafaela, her friend Jeni, and I were introduced to our raft leader and headed onto
our three hour journey across the Pacuare River. Little did I know that my life was close to being put
to an end.
To start off, it is best to address that river rafting is known to be an extreme adventure activity. The
activity takes about three hours total with usually a group of four people placed in a squared yellow
raft. Regardless of where a person chooses to river raft, there are five different levels. Level number
one is when the current is peaceful and level number five is when the current is at its strongest and
can flip the raft over. Sitting opposite from each other on the edge of the raft, the guide says what
direction to paddle and when to duck into the raft. These directions are to be taken

Personal Narrative Analysis
Personal Narrative On July 3rd like any other days we would go cliff jumping or hiking, it was just
another day in summer, friends and I went up to semon reservoir in the mountains of Fort Collins.
There was a cliff about 35 feet above the water at the moment I didn't think what was about to
happen would change my life. My friend Braden yelled," Hurry and jump off it isn't that bad of a
jump." I was at the top of the cliff not to scared to jump into the water there was a ton of college
kids watching cheering me on so I hopped off into the water. Right as I hit the water I knew it was
my shoulder that dislocated even worse than the previous two times. One mistake was the reason for
it happening was that I did not tuck my arms in, so the impact of the water threw my shoulder out of
place. By saying the worst pain I have ever felt in my life was no exaggeration in any way with the
constant throbbing and burning pain was too much but i had to deal with it for a 30 minute hike.
While Getting my shoes on, the only thing on my mind was the thought of missing out on sports and
for the first time I had an anxiety attack of that thought. The only thing I could think of was my
season is over for football and basketball which I love very much and was looking forward too all
summer but knew it was over for me. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Lava River Research Paper
Duty owed: While rafting down the Chilko River, Ron Thompson, a seasoned river guide with
thirteen years of experience, had his raft high side on a rock. When the raft high sided and all but
one of his guests fell out into the river. Due to the strong rapids five of the guests died. This is a
tragedy that should not have happened on the river considering it is not nearly close enough to being
one of the major rivers in Canada. The problem of where this happened on the river, Lava Canyon,
is about how long the rapids run. The water level was approximately 2 feet lower than it typically
ran. With water levels changing, rapids adjust throughout the river. When the raft hit a wake it
turned on its side and hit the rock that forced people out of the raft. Some of the people were able to
swim for safety, including Thompson, but sadly five drowned.
Duty breached: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The way that the raft hit the rock forced people on the high side of the raft to fly out. The people
who were on the bottom side of the raft were washed out by the strong current of the river. Because
of Thompson being in the middle controlling the oars he was one of the first people to fly out of the
raft. Since he was thrown out of the raft, Thompson was unable to help with the situation at hand.
Injury caused by a substandard act: When the guests hit the water some were lucky enough to hit a
part of the river where they could swim to safety. Thompson was lucky enough to find an eddy in
the water, a place in the water that holds you into a spot because of a rock blocking the current.
Unfortunately, due to the length of the river, when the raft hit the rock and all of the guests went
flying out, five were unable to swim to safety and while rolling down the river, they drowned due to
the water constantly splashing in their face and from being pulled into the water.

We finally made it to the rickety rocky shore where we were supposed to put the boats in and float

instructor gawked at my mom and sisters, under the assumption that he was being flattering. He's

"Alright, purty ladies. First, let's start off with how to row, and what to do if you fall outta the boat,"
McFly snickered. With those random tidbits of knowledge, we were off. Our boat led the others,
since McFly was the main instructor, which made me feel safe until he mentioned how he loved
working at ACE Adventure camp because he got to drink and party all weekend with his counselor
buddies. After that, my stomach flipped at just the mere sight of white water.
Whoosh! The water grumbled as it got swallowed by its own current wrapping around the rocks.
"Here we go!" McFly yelled over the powerful current. Everyone began to row their hearts out,
putting so much focus into making a rhythm like a beautiful orchestra. I drilled into my brain,
rowing is vital, vital to staying afloat, vital to staying alive. Our boat swiftly guided itself as the
current carried it through the rapids. First drop down, one to go.

was in my legs. I paddled faster, intent on obeying every one of Kim's commands.
As the nose of the raft dove into the first wave, it broke over the heads of the four people in front. (I
was glad I was in back!) I yelled to continue paddling, and I don't know if I made any difference as
we rode wave after wave, but it kept my mind and body occupied. The raft rocked and pitched in all
directions at once; at times it seemed perpendicular to the river. How could they be enjoying this?

Essay on The Whitewater Conspiracy
The Whitewater Conspiracy
In today's society people often pay close attention to what happens in politics. They normally make
voting decisions on character, past work, and partisan lines. When rumors of indiscretion or
impropriety of a public official pops up, people often like to get involved. Like gossiping on the
church's rumor grapevine, people love to get involved in conspiracies and scandals dealing with
people of power. If you have watched television at all in the last ten years, you have probably heard
about Whitewater. Whitewater is the investigation into Bill Clinton's life before he became
president. This alleged conspiracy goes much deeper though than just a crooked land deal. It has its
fingers into power and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Clinton drum up business. The president denies the claim. Some Clinton associates clearly broke the
law during these years in Arkansas. The McDougals, most notably, were both found guilty of fraud.
Hillary Clinton represented the S&L before the State Securities Department, headed by Clinton
appointee Beverly Bassett Schaffer, who also once represented Madison as an attorney. Schaffer
approved an unusual stock sale to help save the troubled Madison, despite federal complaints about
McDougal's business practices. Federal investigators looked into those actions, which are central to
the allegation that the Clintons helped keep Madison open long after it was broke, as a favor to
McDougal.
According to CNN.Com Madison collapsed in the mid–1980s, leaving American taxpayers with a
$68 million bailout bill. However, The Rose law firm that Hilary worked for, having once
represented Madison, then represented the government in the case. In 1989, McDougal was indicted
on charges of bank fraud and other violations related to Madison's failure. He was later acquitted in
1990.
Madison S & L and McDougal's travails led to other questions about Bill Clinton's role –– questions
of whether Madison funds were diverted by McDougal to pay Whitewater debts or funneled into
Clinton's gubernatorial campaign. The suspicion of funneling arises from a 1985 fund–raiser
McDougal organized to cover Clinton's campaign debt. It raised

Raft Descriptive Writing

  • 1. Raft Descriptive Writing The white water crushes against the boat, almost as if it was waiting for us to make a wrong paddle movement. The rapid we were going over was told to be considered a 5 and extremely dangerous. One wrong move and you could get sucked under the rough water. High waves keep crashing against our raft, keeping us constantly wet. On the bank of the river, rocks as tall as a small sky scraper tower over us. There are eight of us in the raft, split up evenly along the sides of it. Our guide sits in the very back with his single paddle, maneuvering the boat and watching out for hazards ahead. The raft we are in is fairly old, but is still reliable. Gray patches are covering holes that were probably caused by hitting a rock at a wrong angle. The boat is very sturdy and thick, but is extremely flexible in order to allow us to easily pass over the different rapids. The boat maneuvers perfectly as if it were an amusement park ride on a set track. The middle of the boat holds a box that contains various items such as extra gear and a first aid kit in case of an emergency. The ride is rough and the boat is almost always jerking up and down. ... The guide looks around for possible hazards and steers us away from them with the help of the paddle maneuvers we had just learned an hour before. I look to my side and I can see a sharp steep cliff. I can squint my eyes and actually see people rock climbing. It's something I can't see in Chicago. The color of the cliff contrasts with the blue sky. Little metallic pieces of rock reflect off the sunlight and it makes it look like the rock is sparkling. Above us is the New River Gorge Bridge. • 3. Tina Turner's 'Rolling Down The River' Rolling Down the River Fascinated, I watched those big wheels turn, and I could almost hear Tina Turner on the Riverboat Queen! The big wheels were turning, and I was thrilled to be exploring Vancouver's first major highway, the Fraser River, by Paddle Wheeler. Usually, my preferred mode of transportation is a sea kayak or canoe, but recently I had the opportunity to "supersize" my watercraft and experience the Fraser in style. Launching near the River Market at New Westminster Quay, I excitedly boarded the M.V. Native, an authentic replica of a sternwheeler that historically navigated the waters of the Fraser River from 1863 to 1921. As I made way down the ramp, I felt as though I was being transported back in time. Vivid images of pioneers, fur traders and gold miners flashed before me. These magnificent sternwheelers were the workhorses of their time, carrying freight and passengers along the Fraser. How exciting to be boarding one. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Leaving the docks, we passed New Westminster's Pier Park and were afforded unique views of the Railway Bridge, Skytrain Bridge and of course the Patullo Bridge. I wondered what the early settlers would think of our modern day infrastructure, these marvels of steel and cables. Fighting the current, we continued upstream. Our little vessel fought valiantly, yet the river seemed to flow effortlessly almost gracefully. Enjoying the colours, sights and sounds, we carried on to the site of the QayQayts summer village. We learned a little about the history and lifestyle of this First Nations community, one of the smallest in Canada. Nearing Douglas Island, situated where the Fraser and Pitt Rivers meet, we began our turn for home. I was captivated by the level of activity on the mighty Fraser. Tugboats plied the waters; log booms lined the shores, factories and apartment buildings towered above her banks and fishers tested their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Personal Narrative Analysis Over the summer I went camping, and one of the activities I pursued was rafting. I am a very competitive person, so I challenged my cousins to a friendly competition. We divided ourselves into two teams of seven each to see which team would be the first to reach our destination on the river. My group chose me to serve as the guide, which meant I was in charge of three important jobs. As the guide I had to keep my raft from hitting large rocks, direct the right side and the left side paddlers on how to maneuver each stroke, and ensure my group's safety. It was a hot, humid day as the groups pulled their rafts into the cool Lehigh river. As we pulled into the whitewater and jumped onto the raft, the noontime competition began. At this point, ... • 9. Little Fish Research Paper Little Fish There's a river on the edge of Missouri where my family and I camped. My uncle called it "The ole' Roarin' River" because the river was always impossibly full of life and movement. My cousin and I decided, on the edge of daybreak, that we should take a swim. We jumped in and my petite self started to drift quickly downstream. My cousin yelled and motioned for me to swim. I was so scared that I might drown but the internal fire in me was fueled by the terrifying and dire situation. I made it to the edge of the river and climbed out yelling and jumping because I had done what I never thought was possible. I fought the current. Her new job at Vista Health was brutal and she often came home with bruises from he nearly insane patients she had to deal with. The job was very demanding and she had to work over–night. Thankfully, my dad was home during the evenings to be with us and on very rare occasions, he would cook us a meal called 'Shoyu Chicken'. My mom decided to take some of the chicken to work for lunch; people caught a whiff of it and asked her about it. She explained that it was my dad's one specialty meal he learned after living on Hawaii for 17 years. The workers offered to pay her for some of the chicken and it started to become a normal thing. The growing demand for the chicken had given my mom and dad the idea to open a restaurant. Thus Hawaiian Brians was born. This sparked a new era in my life and inspired me to keep moving forward to support my family in the jump from bankruptcy to brick–and–mortar restaurant. This gave us a fresh start in life. There would be more on the plate now not for just for my family but for me as well. We eventually pulled out of bankruptcy because of the booming success of the business. Finally, school was out and it was time for fun and excitement during summer vacation, so my dad thought it was a good idea to go camping and kayaking. Every summer our family goes on a trip to the Platte River. However, when I was ten years old my parents decided to do something different and go to the Sturgeon River instead. This would be one of the fastest and craziest river I have ever gone kayaking on. We headed to Turtle Lake Campground, and finally arrived around noon so we still had plenty of time to explore. One of those sports is whitewater canoeing, which involves going over waterfalls and battling strong currents. The problem is that the canoe can get wedged between rocks and stuff, or the person may be thrown into the freezing water. Some precautions can be taken, like wearing life jackets and helmets, but the sport is still hazardous. Age restrictions should be set for whitewater canoeing, because serious injuries or death may occur from the river features like rocks, branches, and waterfalls. If you've ever heard this song from Pocahontas, then you know that this part of the song relates to many aspects of life. This song reflects the decision that my best friend and I made this summer. My best friend, Julia, and I are a very outdoorsy pair and are avid fishers. Naturally, our first choice of entertainment is something outdoor related. We decided that the week I leave for my Colorado trip, the day before her birthday, we decided that we would spend the whole day together. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There was two different ways to go, the longer path, which was the smoothest course that would add on time or the path that was half the size but was rocky and would be like white water rafting on a babbling brook. We, being the adventurous/amazing decision makers we are, chose the rockier part. We paddled right and the water level started getting lower and lower to the point to where the kayaks were so shallow where we were bottoming them out on rocks. The first thing that came to mind was Julia, I think we picked the wrong path. By this time, it was too late to turn back so we had to keep going forward. The kayaks were still getting stuck and wouldn't move anymore so we had to get out and pull them behind us as our bare feet were prodded by the rocks that were as sharp as knives. Our feet were getting stabbed by the rocks and were getting wrapped up in the mosses and weeds. We got through the rocks and were on the other side to only realize that our net had fallen out of the kayak. We left the kayaks and scurried through the rocks again to find it back at the beginning of the rocks. Take the path less traveled they said, it'll be fun they said. (4) We quickly noticed that the kayaks were free and were floating away. With much pain, we ran back over the rocks and like the Jesus Christ Lizards on water (7). Just because your brother fell once doesn't mean you will." Dad, who was sitting there quietly beside me, said to me. Mom was looking out the window, not paying much attention. We were on vacation in Colorado, and my parents talked into going white water rafting, the last thing I wanted to do. "I know, but when you showed me that video of him falling into the whirlpool! How 'bout I stay on the bus." I replied. I still didn't understand how my brother wasn't dead. "I don't want to fall into a whirlpool" I added, with a worried tone. I had a nasty habit of overthinking things, and I didn't want to let that ruin my vacation. "They will give you safety instructions before we go." Mom cut in, still not looking at Dad and I. We pulled into a small gravel lot, and a flight of cement stairs leading to the river. We got out of the bus, and I was tempted to hide under the seats. A dark haired man with sunglasses, handed out the helmets and paddles. "My name is Tom, and I'm your instructor. Let hurry and get to the raft." He said, putting on a life jacket. "Do we have to put on all this gear?" I asked while he was explaining what everything was. "No just the waterproof jacket, life jacket and helmet." He said, as he handed out some of the gear. Whitewater West Industries CAse Study Executive Summary Geoffrey Chutter, owner of Whitewater Industries, has to relocate his fiberglass moulding business to one of three locations he has in mind due to the need for expansion, complaints of residents nearby the factory while he keeps in mind the importance of his aspects of operating systems. This new factory must at least be 6040 square meters and be in an area with zoning regulations that allow for fiberglass production Whitewater West Industries has three proposed new locations; [1] the spacious Hiram–Walker plant in Kelowna that needs some land renovations, [2] a complete new build that would result in a perfect building, or [3] a location in Abbotsford that has potential to expand business into many major cities. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Quantity: This aspect is important to note when relocating to ensure that the size of the plant will have enough room to incorporate any of the current equipment to maintain the same standard of quality, as well as purchasing new equipment with the intention of helping the company expand and increase their sales. A lack of sufficient space to meet demands may result in a loss of revenue. Price: Price of the products is not really a factor in this relocation, however the company should do its best to keep the total cost of the move within the budget of the company so the price of their fiberglass products does not rise, and potentially losing customers. Alternative Analysis Whitewater West Industries has three possible relocation options to consider: Kelowna ––– Hiram–Walker Plant The Hiram–Walker plant is located only 25 kilometers from Kelowna and is the most spacious facility of all three options and will allow them to keep their current workforce. Zoning has already been approved to produce fiberglass since there are no residential buildings right beside the land – this would also solve the problem of residents complaining of the odour coming from the plant. The plant is located close to a major highway so naturally the ease of shipping and receiving products would be increased because of the proximity to major transportation routes. • 39. Personal Narrative : My Life Of River Rafting My life flashed before my eyes right before I was about to get crushed by a rock 10 feet taller than I was. This story will tell the time I went white river rafting and almost died. Being on vacation doesn't always mean everything is perfect. While I was rafting, the whole experience took a turn for the worst. I was suddenly gasping for air as the malicious currents dragged me down wanting to trap me in their home forever. My body weak and exhausted from being toyed around with by the water, I fell into an unconscious state. I started to remember the car ride to my rafting destination. Upon arriving, I was given my equipment and a set of instruction to follow. My sister, her friend and I were paired up with our tour guide and headed on with our three hour journey across the Pacuare River. Little did I know that my life was close to being put to an end. The rest is history, I was just happy to make it out alive. River Rafting is known to be an extreme adventure activity. The experience takes about three hours total. With usually a group of four, the people are placed in a squared yellow raft with each person holding a paddle board. Depending on which river that is chosen to raft, there are five levels. Level number one is when the current is peaceful and level number five is when the current is at its strongest and can possibly flip your raft over. This is a situation I no longer have control in, as Mother Nature has wrapped her arms around me. My thoughts run rampant through my head, "Will I be alive three minutes from now?". That afternoon, on the Shoshone River in the mountains of Wyoming, might have been my last. In hindsight, I knew the raft was going to overturn. Having looked downstream, I saw the imminent threat of the canyon wall. The raft guide yells "ALL IN," but the opposite occurs. The five of us are tossed to the mercy of the waves. • 47. My Experience In School There are about 180 days of school in a year and this was the last one of my 7th grade year. I had just finished my 6th hour exam and I was instructed to help clean some of the basses. Once that was done it was almost time to leave. As time winded down, I stood anxiously at the door waiting for the bell to ring. When it rang, we all ran out of the school. Summer vacation had started. When I got home, I finished packing up my clothes because the next day, my dad and I were going to Colorado. When I woke up the next day, my dad and I got in the car and drove to Chicago. It took around 2 hours to drive to the airport, but after we arrived there, we checked our bags and went through security. We then walked around the concourse for a while, got some food to eat and then sat down in the waiting area located at our gate. After waiting for what seemed like 10 hours, our plane finally arrived and we got on. The flight lasted around 3 hours, and when we finally touched down, we waited for the plane to arrive at the gate. Once we got there, we went to our hotel, walked around Denver and then went to a Colorado Rockies baseball game. After this, we went back to our hotel and slept. We woke up the next day and drove to Colorado Springs. The reason why we were going here was to go whitewater rafting. I had never done this before and like most people, I was scared. • 53. Persuasive Essay On Family Vacations Do you need to plan a family vacation, but are uncertain where to start? Family vacations provide an excellent chance to enjoy some quality time with your loved ones. The key is to choose the right type of vacation for your particular needs. Here are some ideas to make your family getaways as special as possible: 1. Beaches. While the expression "life's a beach" doesn't always apply, it certainly can if you choose a trip to the beach as your family vacation. The beach provides plenty of activities to keep your family busy for a week. The sand and surf seem to create a magical blend that can relax our minds and bodies. On the beach or in the water you can swim, surf, fish, build a sandcastle, fly a kite, or collect shells as you take a stroll. Besides spending time at the beach itself, there's also usually a wide array of fun activities nearby the beach. That includes mini golf, go– carting, golf and tennis, and so on. 2. Camping. This is an oldie–but–goodie vacation that can provide a barrel of fun for you and your family. Besides the camping itself, these trips can also include activities such as fishing, hiking and horseback riding. You and your family can enjoy camping trips at various locations, including mountains and beaches. While camping can provide an outstanding chance for your children to have fun and learn, the outdoors can create several potential dangers. So it's crucial for your son or daughter to be aware of these dangers, before you go on your vacation. 3. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When the raft high sided and all but one of his guests fell out into the river. Due to the strong rapids five of the guests died. This is a tragedy that should not have happened on the river considering it is not nearly close enough to being one of the major rivers in Canada. The problem of where this happened on the river, Lava Canyon, is about how long the rapids run. The water level was approximately 2 feet lower than it typically ran. With water levels changing, rapids adjust throughout the river. When the raft hit a wake it turned on its side and hit the rock that forced people out of the raft.
