The white water crushes against the boat, almost as if it was waiting for us to make a wrong paddle
movement. The rapid we were going over was told to be considered a 5 and extremely dangerous.
One wrong move and you could get sucked under the rough water. High waves keep crashing
against our raft, keeping us constantly wet. On the bank of the river, rocks as tall as a small sky
scraper tower over us. There are eight of us in the raft, split up evenly along the sides of it. Our
guide sits in the very back with his single paddle, maneuvering the boat and watching out for
hazards ahead. The raft we are in is fairly old, but is still reliable. Gray patches are covering holes

Over the summer I went camping, and one of the activities I pursued was rafting. I am a very

It was the summer of 2012, my brother Ashton and I were in Hollywood, FL on vacation. We had
been fishing since eight in the morning and we were bored out of our minds, so we hopped in a

Ashton wanted to stay just a little longer because as the fishermen he is, he wanted to catch the

How Does Living On A River Affect My Life On The Raft
As we drift down the river on our raft my mind begins to wander, I start looking back on all that I
have experienced since my escape from Pap. My thoughts start to focus on the various places we
have stopped on the river. The different rules and people that we find are truly tiring, it makes me

My life flashed before my eyes right before I was about to get crushed by a rock 10 feet taller than I

My Experience In School
There are about 180 days of school in a year and this was the last one of my 7th grade year. I had
just finished my 6th hour exam and I was instructed to help clean some of the basses. Once that was
done it was almost time to leave. As time winded down, I stood anxiously at the door waiting for the
bell to ring. When it rang, we all ran out of the school. Summer vacation had started. When I got
home, I finished packing up my clothes because the next day, my dad and I were going to Colorado.

Mountains of water loomed, and as the others screamedin exhilaration, my body froze. I was sure
