Gun Politics Of The United States
Gun Politics in the United States Despite the United States having the strictest law on guns, yet mass
shooting is still taking place in all states. Not only the country, but also the states have their own
laws, which lawmakers and other jurisdictions around the country have passed. All fifty states have
their own laws regarding guns. For example, Chicago has had a handgun ban for more than thirty
years, yet it is one of top states with shooting murder on rise. Although heaps of rules and
regulations are in place, they still aren't being enforced in a correct matter. Guns indeed are very
powerful firearms, which can cause extreme damage such as death. Even though, a plethora of
individuals have guns from safety purpose, but when the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The second amendment was adopted in 1791 and added to the U.S. Constitution to defend
themselves from the enemies; Indian, Spanish and especially British who had tried to overturn the
activities of the Militia. Americans during that time looked for a written right that allowed them to
keep weapons to defend their families and their country. Even though many argue whether guns
should be banned or not in Washington D.C., but in 2008, the U.S. Supreme Court stated in a case
known as "District of Columbia v. Heller". The ruling established that the Second Amendment to the
Constitution –– "the right of the people to keep and bear arms" –– means that individuals, and not
just the police and military, may own guns. This rule by the U.S. Supreme Court basically stated that
it is ones right to keep a gun at home for self–defense, but didn't state anything about controlling
guns. According to Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), the Gun Control Act of 1968 indicates that
it is banned to sell firearms to numerous categories of individuals, which includes people under
eighteen years old, those who have criminal records, the mentally incapacitated, illegal immigrants,
dishonorably discharged military personnel, and others. The website also states that in 1993, the law
was improved by the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act, which basically stated that it was
important to have authorized background checks

The Gardens Of Democracy By Eric Liu And Nick Hanauer
Introduction Throughout the world, many contemporary issues occur in the world of Politics.
Democracy is also involved with several contemporary issues. According to Merriam–Webster's
Dictionary (merriam–webster.com 2014), the word democracy is defined as a government in which
the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised by them directly or indirectly through a
system of representation usually involving periodically held free elections (merriam–webster.com
2014 ). Like in many political parties, democracy faces several political issues throughout time.
Political issues are issues that involves with the government or politics. This includes issues related

One of the political issues that Democratic Party talks about is the issue on abortion. The reason
why I am talking about abortion is because abortion is an ongoing political issue that is discussed
many times and the Democratic Party supports abortion. The Democratic Party strongly and fully
supports the Roe v. Wade case and a woman 's right to make their decisions about pregnancy, which
includes a safe and legal abortion (ontheissues.org 2014). Abortion is an exceedingly personal
decision between a woman's family and friends. The Roe v. Wade case had the Court summarily
announced that the "Fourteenth Amendment 's concept of personal liberty and restrictions upon state
action" includes "a right of personal privacy, or a guarantee of certain areas or zones of privacy," and
that "this right of privacy is broad enough to encompass a woman 's decision whether or not to
terminate her pregnancy" (law.justia.com 2014). This makes no place for politicians or government
to get in the way. Democracy also recognizes that health care and educational support reduces the
number of unexpected pregnancies and thereby, it also reduces the needs for abortions.
However, there are also debates against abortions in the United States of America. Recently, there
was a debate about abortion which was led by Scott Walker and Mary Burke. Mary Burke is a
democratic candidate for the governor of Wisconsin and she pledged to

Essay about The Pros and Cons of Gun Control
This essay will discuss the pros and cons of gun control. Some U.S. States have already adopted
some of these gun control laws. I will be talking about the 2nd amendment, public safety, home
safety, and do gun control laws really control guns. I hope after you have read this you will be more
educated, and can pick your side of the gun control debate. So keep reading and find out more about
the gun control laws that the federal and some state governments want to enforce on U.S. Citizens.
Firearms are classified into three broad types handguns, rifles, and shotguns. Rifles and shotguns are
both considered "long guns." A semi–automatic weapon fires one bullet each time the user pules the

Background check data gun purchases show that in 2005 nine million checks were done, and for the
first eleven months of 2013 the figure rode to nineteen million. Gun ownership according to
(justfacts.com)"based on gun manufacturers there are over 300 million firearms owned by civilians
and around 100 million of them are handguns. Also 40–45% of households own guns or 47–53

handgun is 17–19% or 40–45 million adults." Why, even after Newtown were a shooting left six
people dead, are gun laws ascending. The starting point for this is violent crime rates. According to
politics/policy "National gun control push began in Ernest in the late 1960's, an era of sharply rising
murder and assault rates, especially in large cities. Violence markedly increased for three decades,
throughout 1993, providing gun skeptics with a plausible basis to argue that limiting access to
firearms might help address the scourge." In December 1993, seventy percent of Americans
supported stricter gun control, according to the pollster at CNN. Then in 1994 for some reason
violent crimes began to decrease falling roughly fifty percent

America and Homicide Essay
America and Homicide
The United States has been a world leader in homicide for centuries. Indeed, "since the early 19th
century ...[America has been] the most homicidal country in the Western world" and holds that title
today (Kelley, 2009). In a 2007–2008 list of 31 nations, only two nations, Mexico and Chile, had
higher homicide rates (Comparison, 2010). Nations with higher populations, such as India and
China have fewer homicides (Comparison, 2010). Further, a nation such as Japan, which has a lower
population but a higher population density then the United States, has one of the world's lowest
homicide rates (Comparison, 2010). Population size and density, therefore, cannot be the chief
reasons for this nation's higher homicide rates. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Indeed, the American love of criminals always seems connected to this feeling. Americans
champion criminals if the can view their actions as an attempt to stab back at those they blame for
their misfortunes (such as "robbing from the rich" or "killing dangerous people') as a benefit to
society. For example, John Dillinger's bank robberies during depression era foreclosures satisfied the
anger many Americans had against the rich banks who were taking their homes (Esposito, 2009).
This may be the reason why many view certain criminals who take from the wealthy or who take
action against government or political rulers as folk heroes – because they fulfill all public dreams
of getting even, settling the score, and making things fair. Indeed, this is what may have driven Jared
Lee Loughner to shoot Gabrielle Giffords. This point of view is seen today in gang members' need
to defend their honor by killing each other when members of other gangs "enter their turf" as it is in
the murder of abortion doctors by Christian extremists who believe God is on their side because
murder is wrong.
Gun Laws
American culture, of course, is also a reason why America is one of the few industrialized nations in
the world where gun ownership is a civil right. Indeed, the lowest gun ownership rate in the world,
2%, belongs to the Netherlands and the highest, 49.1%, belongs to the United States

Guns Should Be Banned Persuasive Essay
At a country music festival in Las Vegas, thousands of people were enjoying the calm atmosphere,
until a gunman fired into the crowd from the 32nd floor of his hotel room, killing fifty–nine people
and injuring about 5oo people. The man has been identified as Stephen Paddock, a sixty–four–year–
old man that resided in Reno, Nevada. Many of his family members were shocked that he had the
capability of killing any living thing. In his home, police found twenty–three guns and nearly
nineteen more in the hotel room, but only one automatic rifle was used during the attack. According
to Paddock's brother, Stephen was a gambler who had 'no history of violence' and could care less
about religion and politics (Eric Paddock). This is expected since usually, no one suspects someone
they know to commit such a horrific act. Psychopaths and terrorists similar to Paddock hide that part
of themselves to people, in order to remain mysterious and non–suspecting. ... Show more content

With this being the deadliest mass shooting in the United States, it should make our government
realize that guns are problematic. Even though many people use them for self–defense or hunting
purposes, they should reconsider banning guns. In Australia, the government decided to ban guns
after a mass shooting occurred and the gun violence tremendously decreased. Although, the quote

mass shootings, guns have a major role as

The Problem Of Gun Control
One possible solution of gun problem in the United States
The ownership of firearm became legally in United States since their second amendment of the
constitution enacted in 1791. It seems a symbol of the right to freedom, however, it has also brought
a great convenience to criminals. The gun shooting accident are repeatedly happening in United
States each year and lots of innocent people get hurt. What more serious is, the number of such
tragedies are continuing increase. Many people living in the United States are worried about the
safety of their lives. While the public are appealing the gun ban, but there are some obstacles from
laws and politics. Therefore, the aim of this essay is to explain the problems of gun ownership in
United States and then gives some possible solutions, as well as the challenges of the solutions.
One of the major problem arising from the privatization of firearms is that criminals can easily get
the weapon, thus increasing the probability of gun violent. According to the research, the incidence
of the U.S. group shootings accounted for 31% of the world. If narrow the scope of the crime scene
to schools and workplaces, the U.S. takes account of 62% of the world. Another thing to notice is
that in the most shooting cases, the firearms are legally acquired (News Encyclopaedia 2016). And
just over a month ago, another shooting happened in Orlando nightclub, which causes 49 people
killed and 53 injured. This is also the deadliest shooting in the

What Is The Gun Show Loopholes
Gun Control has been a controversial topic within the United States for several decades. Many of
whom argue against it, stating that laws regarding gun control are unnecessary and not needed.
However, gun control laws are unequivocally needed more than ever in today's society. This paper
will examine the topic of gun control and gun violence, thus providing evidence as to why the
United States needs to implement stern rigorous laws in order to deter the amount of gun related
criminal acts.
The "Gun Show Loophole" To enumerate, the "Gun Show loophole" is a political term in the United
States which refers to the sale and distribution of firearms to private citizens without a background

Candidate Comparison Have you ever felt like an outsider? Did you ever feel like you didn't fit in
and you weren't accepted? Well, I don't think it's much of a problem for the outsiders in this
upcoming presidential election. The presidential candidates, Donald J. Trump and Bernie Sanders,
are known as the "outsiders" of the election but, are gaining so much support and acceptance.
Sanders is a highly Liberal candidate who wishes for many free social systems for the United states
while Trump is a conservative business man who wishes to "Make America Great Again" ("About
Donald..."). The people that are voting for Trump are not going to back down any time soon or
change their minds but, when it comes down to a general election, the majority of the United States
population seems to side with Bernie Sanders. Donald Trump is a very successful business man that
is just trying his hand in politics this election. He was born in Queens, New York on the fourteenth
of June in 1946 and later graduated business school at the Warton School of Finance. Other than the
acting chairman and president of his own organization, Trump has become a successful author of
over 15 bestselling books including "The Art of the Deal." He is also an Emmy nominee for his
show "The Apprentice" which coined the phrase "you're fired!"("About Donald J. Trump"). Though

Gun Control In America Pros And Cons
The segment of American politics know as gun control came about in the 20th century with the
passing of the National Firearms Act (NFA) in 1934. Congress passed this act in response to
Prohibition–era gangs and the extreme violence that they caused. With the passage of the NFA the
federal government set into motion the beginning of gun politics in America. The history of modern
gun control has been fiercely fought in and out of the courts by parties on both sides of the issue
with several key court rulings. Gun control politics is primarily made up of two sides with several
groups on both sides. On the one side you have gun rights activists and the other you have the gun
control activists.
The NFA was the first attempt at gun control by the federal government and the foundation for other
gun control measures. The NFA imposed a tax on two types of firearms ... Show more content on

In that court case Mr. Miller, a known bank robber, was charged by the government with violating

defendant and his attorney argued that the NFA was not a revenue measure and violated his second
amendment rights and that it was an attempt to limit police power reserved to the induvial states.
The district court that the case was heard on agreed with the plaintiff and quashed the indictment.
This set the grounds for the case to go to the Supreme Court of the United States. When the case was
heard in the Supreme Court only the government's attorneys were there to argue the case. Mr. Miller

HANDS UP!: An Essay in Favor of Gun Control in America Andrew A. McKay Victor Valley
College Abstract Gun ownership is embedded in the fabric of America. The United States has the
highest gun ownership rate in the world with 88 guns per 100 people. This is a staggering amount of
firearms in the U.S. which our forefathers would 've never imagined when writing the 2nd
Amendment. The 2nd Amendment states that "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the
security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." Not
everyone interprets this right the same way. Regulating and restricting the use of these firearms

America needs to institute, and initiate gun control laws throughout the entire nation. But not
everybody who inhabits the United States believes in regulating arms. Those who are against
establishing gun laws argue that gun control directly infringes upon their "right to bear arms"
granted to them by the 2nd Amendment. Anti gun control supporters, such as the National Rifle
Association, often claim that the act of regulating guns is a sufficient reason why such an
Amendment was introduced in the constitution; to protect themselves from any and all forms of
violation of civil liberties and freedom. Supporters of anti gun laws are unwilling to welcome any
interpretations of the 2nd Amendment that do not match up "word for word," as was written in the
Bill of Rights. Although the 2nd Amendment only contains one sentence, the interpretation of it can
be misconstrued if the use of critical thought is not applied during the analysis. Supporters of gun
control argue that the ambiguous language in the 2nd Amendment leads to confusion about the
interpretation. That in itself warrants further discussion about rewriting the 2nd Amendment or
simply eradicating it. Also, the provision is outdated and no longer coincides with the times. In
regards to the addition of "well regulated militia," guns were meant to protect people from tyranny
and any form of militarized government suppression. With that said, firearms should alternatively be
restricted from other uses with

Indeed, the United States has a long tradition of holding guns. The public opinion with guns is
deeply based. A survey conducted by the Pew Research Center in 2017 showed that 48% of the
population grew up in armed families; 72% believed that most people should have the right to have
guns or that almost everyone had the right to hold guns; 61% believed that the people have the right

constitutional provision and a "political correctness," and gun control faces many practical
resistances. However, with the continuous occurrence of vicious shooting incidents, ... Show more

On the issue of gun legislation, the Democratic Party tends to establish a strict gun control law and
tries to pass it through the National Assembly. The Republican Party, on the other hand, strives to
prevent the passage of laws and regulations from the standpoint of fighting for party interests such
as voters and election expenses. Therefore, the bill proposed by the Democrats is difficult to pass in
the Senate, where the Republicans dominate. Since most of the constituency divisions in the House
of Representatives are decided by Republican–controlled state legislatures, the Republicans have
more "stable" seats than Democrats do. In the constituencies of these members of the House of
Representatives, politicians are more sensitive to their voters, and these voters are also more
inclined to vote on popular issues such as gun rights. The penalty for offending these voters is much
higher than alienating voters who support gun control, because voters who support gun control often
do not participate in the Republican primary election. The demographic structure also played a role
in the support of the House of Representatives in support of guns, because the proportion of gun
owners is higher in urban areas than in urban areas. Even

Argumentative Essay On Gun Control
The Problem with Guns
The idea and practice of "gun–control" is needs to change. The mass shootings around the nation
show that gun violence in the United States of America is an epidemic. To battle the carnage, to
keep our children and citizenry safe, some jurisdictions, schools, and public venues have enacted
"gun–free" zones and advocated restricting gun ownership. Columbine High School was a gun–free
zone. Virginia Tech? Gun free. Cinemark Theater, Aurora, Colorado, Sandy Hook Elementary, and
the Pulse Nightclub, they were all "gun–free" zones. The baseball field where the shooting took
place this month, just south of our nation's capital, has some of the most restrictive gun laws in the
nation. Gun control measures as practiced by most jurisdictions–i.e. "gun–free zones," an act
imposed by the government upon the people in an effort to change behavior–an effort working from
the outside in have failed. Notwithstanding the intent, these laws do nothing to empower or protect
law abiding citizens. Furthermore, keeping law abiding citizens from being able to defend, protect,
and save themselves is irresponsible as it is horrific.
Statistics show compared to other nations, the United States has the highest gun ownership rate–112
firearms per 100 civilians. 1 These numbers make it seem that there is an overabundance of firearms
in the U.S. To protect the citizens it might make sense, as some proponents advocate, to restrict gun
ownership to a few. This hasn't worked

The Importance Of Gun Control
After the recent mass shootings, the gun control debate has reached its boiling point. We need gun
control laws? Gun control, ownership, and laws should be changed immediately.Did you know that
33 people are killed with guns every day in America. Something needs to be done about gun control
because the death rate is steadily rising and guns are one of the leading causes of death in the United
States. One reason gun control laws should be changed, Gun control statistics reveal that although
The United States accounts for only 5% of the world's population, U.S residents own 50% of guns in
the world. The prevalence of suicide is 5 times higher in homes having guns.In a study from 2016 it
shows that 14.5 million people had a ccw permit, that was the largest increase ever in the number of
permits. Also when owning a gun, there is a 43 times higher likelihood of killing a family member,
friend,or neighbor than an intruder. When gun deaths statistics for different countries were expressed
as the number of gun deaths in a population of a million people, the United States was ranked below
South Africa. A quote from John McGinnis said "Gun control does not decrease gun ownership by
criminals, but instead reduces their incentives to refrain from violence because it decreases the
supply of armed law–abiding citizens who might resist them."More recently, a 2013 study in
Switzerland compared suicide rates before and after an army reform that cut the number of Swiss
soldiers by half.

Why Should Assault Weapons Be Banned
Why should assault weapons be banned? One of the guns used in Columbine was a 9mm carbine
and in the Sandy Hook massacre a Bushmaster XM15–E2S rifle were both assault weapons. Dylan
Klebold and Eric Herres got their weapons illegally same with the people that shoot up Sandy Hook.
If assault weapons were banned at that time all of the students that died that day would still be alive
and probably should have bright futures. That just proves that anyone can get assault weapons
illegally or legally. Assault weapons should be banned because they could get sold illegally to the
wrong people and cause violence. Assault weapons should be banned.

actual attacks in Denmark and France, Belgian police on 15 January shot dead two terrorist suspects
in the eastern town of Verviers and made one arrest as part of an operation into an imminent "major"

Most people would think that having a assault weapon will help protect their family. It will but it
will cause even more problems because the person that killed the person breaking into you home
that person will get in trouble because if he did not do anything first then it would not be self
defense so that person will go to jail for murder.
That is why assault weapons should be banned. They cause too much violence and if it were to get
in the wrong hands it could cause problems. So to answer the question in the beginning yes assault
weapons should be banned because if they get into the wrong hands and get someone hurt. That is
why assault weapons should be

changed, compromise is no longer the founding of the system, and as such, not much seems to be
getting done. If the basis of the American system is ambition vs ambition, and the philosophy of
"you scratch my back and I scratch yours", then what could have caused this callosal shift in
governance?

The Pros And Cons Of Gun Control
There has been a big controversy between people and politics on whether guns should be banned or
not. People feel have the right to buy guns, however others do not feel safe having them around.
Some states have the open carry gun law. There are positive and negative effects to selling and
buying of guns. Gun control is a sticky subject to talk about because of people's beliefs, opinions,
and the way they were raised. They congress should enforce gun control and the buying and selling
of guns. They should be stricter about the laws that states who can buy a gun and what they have to
pass to obtain it. Some Americans feel that guns should not be banned. It is the second amendment
of the constitution. That says Everyone has the right to bare arms. They feel it is the American way
of life. "Since gun ownership so strongly symbolizes what it means to be American, you have to stay
away from it." (Keijzer) One reason guns should not be banned is because it is considered a
necessity for protection and self defense. There is a law in Mississippi that says you have the right to
protect yourself if someone breaks in your house. For example, a single young woman living by
herself has the right to protect herself if anyone harms her in anyway. Secondly, people consider
using it for a sport. For example, people like to go hunting, which they need the use of guns.
Without guns people would not be able to hunt and enjoy the activities of finding and killing
animals, for money or just for

Gun Rights And Gun Control
Guns right now in the nation of the United States of America are at the center of a heated debate on
how they should be handled. With Civilians and politicians alike arguing over how they should be
regulated we have many arguments for the pros and cons of both sides. Gun control is now one of
the most talked about subject in the country due to the vast amount of mass murders and school
shootings that have been taken place in recent years. However, even with all this gun violence taken
place it seems to have only made people take more stubborn stance on their opinion of how the gun
laws should be handled. With one faction called the pro–gun control sided standing in the position
of stricter gun laws and regulation, there also exist the opposing side called the pro–gun rights side
that wants freedom to own their guns not infringed upon. While picking a topic for myself to
research on an event in Oregon took place that involved yet another armed gun man coming into a
school or college campus and killing innocent people, and this preceded many other shootings such
as the one in Charleston, South Carolina. Many would think after such and event took place it would
draw Americans closer to having a resolution to the gun problem that we face in this country, but on
the contrary everything played out as usual the standard new coverage some outrage at the moment

Gun Control In Society
Gun Control/Issues in Today's Society In today's society, there is plenty to talk about. Whether it be
about the President, the weather change, there is always something to talk about. One of the major
issues that has been talked about for an extended period of time is gun control and the issues that
follow it. There are two specific articles that were chosen today; one of which from the Chicago Sun
Times website, and the other from the New York Times. The issues following gun control have been
very outrageous in my opinion. Let us talk about the city of Chicago, for instance. Chicago is known
for its dangers. Being one of the most dangerous cities throughout the entire United States of
America, gun violence has been a major issue over the years. As much as people say it will get
better, things only get worse. In the Chicago Sun Times article, we take a look at how this issue was
attempted to be solved. From the year of 2013 until present day, more than 7,000 weapons were
collected each year. Chicago, to most people, is considered to be the murder capital of the U.S. Most
of the murders were committed by guns. This is extremely sad, because think about all of the
innocent lives that were taken; mothers, children, you name it. One of the main things that
contribute to most of the gun violence is the fact that the city of Chicago has many gangs. Gang
members will do everything and anything they can to make sure they hurt their rivals, regardless of
the outcome.

Gun Culture Research Paper
Gun Culture in the United States
In this text, I shall focus on the gun culture in the United States, discussing the negative and positive
side of this matter.
What makes the USA different from other developed countries is their right to own private guns, and
the citizens makes full use of this law. Approximately under half of the American households have
at least one gun. This makes the United States the highest country in the world when it comes to
ownership of private guns. The ownership of private guns varies significantly from state to state.
Many studies shows that gun ownership is more common in the countryside's than the big cities.
The reasons people give for owning guns varies too, from hunting to target shooting but the most
common reason is for self–defence.
Now ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many studies shows that unintentional shooting occur more often when it comes to home defence
situation. Statistics shows that one is more likely to shoot someone by accident than shoot a home
invader.
Owning a gun in the house may increase the possibility of suicide situations. It is much easier to pull
the trigger than to stab oneself with a knife.
In a country where guns can be found in approximately every households, we can expect that mass
killing can happen. According to Mother Jones
(http://www.motherjones.com/politics/2012/07/mass–shootings–map), most of the guns that were
used in the last 30 years of mass killing acts in the USA was owned legally by the killers.
Conclusion
There is no straight answer to this matter and everyone can come up with things to defend it or to go
against it. My opinion is that in areas where criminality rate is high a gun is needed to feel protected.
There must still be more gun control. People should be tested before they get to own a private gun.
They should be tested for mental illness and other illnesses that may make owning a private gun

No Guns More Crime : Gun Control Laws And Regulations...
No Guns More Crime A growing number of states in the US have passed stricter gun policies for
citizens to own bare arms. The almighty goal is to have all the guns taken away from gun owners
and future gun owners. The policies have adjusted citizens to go through a process just to obtain a
gun license or permit. For example, rigorous background checks and sponsorship from law
enforcement. This process contradicts the 2nd Amendment from the U.S Constitution. Every

Persuasive Essay On Gun Control Laws
In the past few years there has been many mass shootings carried out by mental people. Guns don't
kill, people kill. Mexico has one of strictest gun control laws in the world and yet they've massive
shootings. Mexico has only one legal gun store compared with at least 63,709 legal gun stores and
pawn shops in the United States. Strict gun control laws do not work in Mexico, and will not work
in the United States. We should not lose the right to bear arms because it keeps us safe, less crime,
and it's a right that the government shouldn't take.
At first, gun control laws do not deter crime; gun ownership deters crime. Various people say that
without guns there is less deaths, but that's not true because people would find other ways to kill.
John R. Lott, Jr., PhD, author of More Guns, Less Crime: Understanding Crime and Gun Control
Laws, stated that guns bring less crime and violent actions. Moreover, the authors point was that
"States with the largest increases in gun ownership also have the largest drops in violent crimes
(Should More Gun Control Laws Be Enacted in the United States?)." In few words, people now are
more knowledgeable that any person could have a gun in there power. Therefore, they are not going
to attempt any violent action. The more guns, the less crimes, but this should monitorized so that
people can't take advantage. Here in the United States it is simple to obtain weapons and there are
numerous places established for them. Pew Foundation is an

Amending the Second Amendment
On December 12, 2013, a heavily armed man walked into a small elementary school in Connecticut
and opened fire, ending the lives of 26 children and teachers, not only shattering the quiet of the
small town but leaving our nation lurching at the number of young lives lost. The horror of this
event renewed people's passion on both sides of the fiercely debated issue of gun control and
brought the issue to the forefront of American politics once again. While no new gun control laws
have been passed since this tragedy, the debate over how to interpret the 2nd amendment continues.
Gun control laws are the government's way of regulating the manufacture, sale, transportation,
possession, and use of firearms. In our world today, we face the vast controversy of gun control and
who should be able to possess a destructive firearm, and under what conditions. These laws differ
significantly around the world, and in fact the laws in the United States vary by state. Supporters of
strict gun laws argue the dangers of allowing citizens broad rights to possess firearms. Opponents
claim that they wish to have a source of defense in their home, and also that certain regulations may
violate their individual rights. Gun control laws are protected by the second amendment in the Bill
of Rights, the right to bear arms. "A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free
state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed." The bill guarantees

Social Issues Of Gun Control
The issue of guns is one of the most prominent social problems in the United States, and every time
after the shooting incident, the voice of gun control became to rise and the debate of banning guns
emerge again. What People can do is only to offer their condolences, griefs and protests for gun
violence, and stand for moments of silence. People still don't have any law of gun control in return
even if in the face of these bloody statistics. Because this issue is not just a simple social problem,
and this issue has evolved into an intricate issue and many factors are intertwined, such as cultural
tradition, value concept, legal rights, party politics and interest groups. I argue that the gun control

With the popular culture providing positive images of guns, the United States has a gun prevalence
that is very rare in the modern world. While many people appreciate the "gun culture", guns are
heavily involved in violence in the United States. According to U.S. Department of Justice, since
1960, more than 750,000 Americans have died under firearms, including homicides, suicides, and
unintentional injuries. The figure 1 provides a comprehensive survey of U.S. violent crimes for the
period from 1993 to 2011.This figure illustrates that from 1993 to 2011, about 60% to 70% of
homicides were associated with a firearm. Over the same period, between 6% and 9% of all nonfatal
violence, with about 20% to 30% of robberies and 22% to 32% of aggravated assaults involving a
firearm. The high rates of gun violence and accidents in the United States have long aroused public
concern, in view of the strong correlation between gun prevalence, many people believe that the
United States must adopt stricter gun control measures to reduce the huge number of firearms across
the nation. These people are known as gun control proponents, or advocates. However, many other
people do not think so. In their eyes, the serious firearm problems do not result from gun prevalence,

Guns and Elections: The Politics of Gun Control Essay
In the book Guns, Gun Control, and Elections: The Politics and Policy of Firearms, Wilson
discusses the complex issue of gun control and the many debates and controversies regarding the
issue. Many people throughout the United States feel it is the right as a citizen in the United States
to own a weapon, and the government should have no say in the matter. These people believe this
because of the part of the Second Amendment that states, "The right of the people to keep and bear

In the United States Violent crimes with guns has been a problem, "Roughly 16,272 murders were
committed in the United States during 2008. Of these, about 10,886 or 67% were committed with
firearms."(James). Even though advocates for and against pro–gun have their discrepancies there are
a few things that both of them agree on. Wilson in his book mentions that there is a need for: (a)
weapons to be keep away from the wrong people, (b) an increase in safety involving guns, and that
(c) some policy may need to be changed. The problem with changing policy for advocates and non–
advocates is agreeing on what policy is appropriate. Wilson in his book does a good job of
informing the readers of the key issues of gun control, and some of the flaws in the debates and
needs to be done in order to progress in this area. I feel as though Wilson did a great job in
discussing the topics mentioned so far, I agree that these issues need to be addressed. And in the

American Social Policy And Social Change Essay
Here in the United States, disputes about the axiological restructuring of American social policy and
social change are at the forefront of our policymaking, and one can assume it will remain so for the
anticipated future. The belief that change is necessary is evident to all Americans, but which path to
take is immensely different. Abramovitz states that, "Ideology is more that abstract ideas. It has
raised hopes, inspired fear, and drawn blood for millions of human beings" (2008). Americans stand
to make their ideologies on platforms when they elect politicians who share in their beliefs,
ideologies, and cultural norms into positions of power. When this occurs, Americans look to their
politicians to adhere to their beliefs and take the path to change they see fit. Throughout history,
there is a persistent power struggle between American political parties, primarily Republican and
Democrat, and the ideologies they harbor. When one party has a more dominant omnipresence, the
overall ideology of the country tends to shift. In 2007, Karger & Stoesz state that, "Ideological
trends influence social welfare when adherents of one orientation hold sway in decision– making
capacities" (p.5). According to Gil, "Choices in social welfare policy are heavily influenced by the
dominant beliefs, values, ideologies, customs, and traditions of the cultural and political elites
recruited mainly from among the more powerful and privileged strata" (1981, p.32). During this

Reasons of Gun Problem in America
Abstract: Such many shootings as Denver Theater shooting, the Sikh Temple shooting, not only tear
the heart of Americans, but also arouse the rest of world's curiosity about this heated matter, having
a great impulse to explore the reason behind the problem. Uncovered in the United States "foreign
policy", from the assassination of Martin Luther King and Robert Kennedy in 1968 till now, there
are about 30000 people die each year under shooting, that means more than 80 people were killed by
guns a day on the average. It is analysed that although there are innumerable deaths of shooting, but
the America still can 't enforce any gun control policy. The idea is that the gun is a tool for rebelling

Later, in the expansion of the west frontier, the guns again played an important role. At that time, the
guns were already very common and became a part of Americans life. However, the real
establishment of gun culture was during the American Civil War. During the Civil War, millions of
Americans were armed with guns, and taught how to use guns and how to fight in the battle. It is the
Civil War that further strengthened the important situation in the mind of Americans, and the people
of United States also view the ownership of guns as an indepriveable right. After a long time
evolution, to have gun and to use gun has constituted a part a American people's way of life. What's
more, in the whole nineteenth century, the American government rarely took any method of law to
limit the use of arms, owning guns had become nothing special. Subsequently, American's love and
passion for gun increased ever since then. Shopping at gun shops for Americans is nothing different
from shopping at a shopping mall. The prominent American social study expert Herman Kahn once
pointed out: "it is the core of American culture", and in America gun is also regarded as "the symbol
of order and totem", which is also the concentrated reflection of American history, culture and
tradition (Li Yuzi, 2005). Depicted as above, in the United States the appearance of gun is rooted

Should Gun Control Be Banned In The United States?
Gun Control Guns have been in the hands of citizens since before our country was born. Recently

United States legislation on guns, what do other countries do for gun control, and lastly what our
stance is on gun control. This paper also aims to educate on the history of gun control laws in the
United States and the causes and effects of the laws we have had, Firstly, some of the history of gun
control in the United States. In 1791 the 2nd Amendment was added and in 1871 the National Rifle
Association was formed. In 1934 the National Firearms act was passed and on passes the Gun

Throughout the country, thousands of laws and regulations have been created to aid in the control of

Another solution is to redesign the background checks on every individual wanting to purchase a
gun. Each state has their own law on this one and many are not very strict. By creating a national
background checking system for everyone trying to purchase guns which would include a national
mental health check; guns entering the hands of an individual mentally unstable could be prevented
better. Thirdly, designing tougher sentencing laws could aid in lowering crimes involving guns.
Totally removing guns would not be beneficial because the criminals are still going to find a way to
have a gun in order to continue their criminal lifestyle. The key to finding the perfect solution is
tough due to many loopholes and the effects it could have on everyone's second amendment right. In
looking at the three potential ways to control guns and violence; the perfect way to aid in controlling
guns and the violence is to put in place a law that contains tougher sentences, more in depth
background checks, a large database to account for every gun purchased or sold and require every
gun owner to go through a course to teach gun safety and the laws that are in place. Research The
studies and research on gun control has opened up many ideas on how weak the current laws really
are. Crime rates consist of high numbers. "Since 1982, there have been at least 62 mass shootings
across the country, with the killings unfolding in 30 states from Massachusetts to Hawaii"

The reason why I am talking about abortion is because abortion is an ongoing political issue that is
discussed many times and the Democratic Party supports abortion. The Democratic Party strongly
and fully supports the Roe v. Wade case and a woman 's right to make their decisions about
pregnancy, which includes a safe and legal abortion. Abortion is an exceedingly personal decision
between a woman's family and friends. This makes no place for politicians or government to get in
the way. Democracy also recognizes that health care and educational support reduces the number of
unexpected pregnancies and thereby, it also reduces the needs for abortions.
However, there are also debates against abortions in the United States of America. Recently, there
was a debate about abortion which was led by Scott Walker and Mary Burke. Mary Burke is a
democratic candidate for the governor of Wisconsin and she pledged to work to withdraw a law
signed by Walker in July 2013 where women must get an ultrasound in order to get an abortion
(Jason Stein and Bill Glauber 2014). Burke also said women should be allowed to make health–care
decisions by theirselves. In John Geer, Wendy Schiller, and Jeffery Segal's textbook Gateways to

Who's Got The Power? From the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution has said "A

Many people, especially opponents of stricter gun control laws, assert that the U.S. Constitution
gives individuals the right to hold arms. However, many other people do not accept this opinion. For
them the Constitution guarantees common defense by individual arms bearing.
Why was the Second Amendment created? First of all, the Second Amendment was passed in the
18th century, a much different time than the 21th century. The background of the Second
Amendment is, during the Revolutionary era, the fear of British standing armies strongly
encouraged the need for the Second Amendment. Many colonists felt that they needed guns, and
other weapons, to protect their civil liberties. Samuel Adams wrote, that a "standing army, however
necessary it may be at sometimes, is always dangerous to the liberties of the people" (quoted in
Greco). According to the most recent cases that Supreme Court directly dealt with the Second
Amendment: Columbia v. Heller, and McDonald v. Chicago. These two cases all ruled that laws
banning the registration of handguns was unconstitutional (Greco). However, according to earlier
cases: U.S. v. Cruikshank, Presser v. Illinois, and Miller v. Texas. These three cases all ruled that
states have the right to restrict guns (Greco). It is clear that the Second Amendment protects the right

Majoritarianism is seen in the decision and action to create a petition to recall both Mr. Morse and
Ms. Giron. The people against stricter gun laws rallied against the two officials who voted for gun

common people, and a great deal of them, actively using their rights to recall official who did

Persuasive Essay On Assault Weapons
One of the many controversies in today's society and politics is putting a ban on assault weapons.
Putting a ban on assault weapons will not reduce crime. There are many other weapons people could
use for crime. The banning assault weapons would not stop the number of homicides or suicides
either. The United States' gun laws are nothing like other countries who've reduced crime in their
nation. Other countries like Germany and the U.K. have developed successful laws and bans. The
ban on assault weapons would not reduce crime, so U.S. citizens need a different approach at a ban.
The ban's real purpose is to make the public feel more safe. The Washington Post says "Its only real
justification is not to reduce crime but to desensitize the public to the regulation of weapons in
preparation for their ultimate confiscation." The withholding of handguns cannot happen unless
people yield certain types of weapons to change mentality. On the other hand, weapons like some
semiautomatics got left off of the ban. This means that people could get their hands on military–
style guns and also mass shootings ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

ban. Vox states that "the data shows the guns that kill the most in this country aren't the big, scary–
looking ones. They're handguns." There have been huge death tolls because of handguns. Vox
concludes that "Modern handguns also have the lethal ability to fire multiple bullets in quick

The Pros And Cons Of Gun Control
As opponents against gun control have numerous reasons as to why guns should not be restricted
amongst the American public but pointed to the Second Amendment to the United Constitution as
the main reason why gun control should not be permitted in the U.S. However, what these critics do
not want to accept is that since 1980, several crucial events in the United States have led to
excessive gun control movement. Remarkably, it takes a lot more than one appalling catastrophe to
influence Americans that more attention should be taken into monitoring the number and types of
guns the public can get access to. However, some major shooting calamities in the U.S such as
assassination attempts on President Reagan's, Columbine, Virginia Tech, and Sandy Hook have all
triggered majority of Americans to take a stance in favor of gun control legislation. The first key
push in the direction of the gun control movement begun during the era of Ronald Reagan
presidency since he happened to be of one of the most "pro gun" presidents in American history.
During the first few months of his presidency, a notorious assassination effort nearly terminated his
life. This almost tragic moment in history happened on March 30, 1981, as President Reagan
finished delivering his speech at the Washington Hilton Hotel, to a group of union members of the

Argumentative Essay: Gun Control In The United States
Gun Control Do you want to always feel safe in your home, at school, or at work? Well, increasing
gun control laws will rip that sense of security away from you. Gun control does not work; it
endangers the citizens of the United States because the crime rates will rise like they have in
Chicago. Politicians do not know how to fix gun violence, gun control has failed miserably and it is
unconstitutional. Gun control will make the crime rate increase. According to "There Is a Problem
with Politics, Not Guns, in the United States," an article on Opposing Viewpoints, "The fact is the
failure of Liberalism has brought the city to its current state of deterioration." This statement sheds
light on the fact that Chicago, which has some of the strictest gun control laws in this country is one
of the gun violence and homicide capitals of the nation. "The Chicago model of unconstitutional
restrictions on keeping and bearing arms has done little more than add fuel to the fire. Politicians,
meanwhile, have been more than happy to ignore the easily identifiable, but politically tricky,
origins of gang violence and criminal activity"(1). Gun control disarms the law–abiding citizens,
paving the way for criminals with illegal weapons to massacre our women and children. In an article

Should There Be Stricter Gun Laws In The United States?
The United States has had issues with gun control for the longest time. Everything from
assassinations in the 20th century to the Sandy Hook shooting. Guns have been a major topic in
debates and politics in general. Guns have caused many problems in history and they also have
solved and still do solve many problems in the United States today because of things such as
concealed weapons permits that have exponentially reduced crimes like murder and rape in the
United States. The United States government should not enforce stricter gun laws because stricter
gun laws have negative effects on the government and the people of the United States.
If the government makes new laws increasing the restriction on guns the prices on guns will go up
because of the fact that guns are already worth a whole lot more in the street and making them

A gun is only as good or as bad as the person using it. It is not the gun it's the person using it (Lott).
The mental health issue is the problem that needs to be dealt with because unstable people that get
ahold of guns are the ones that cause these mass shootings and killing are the ones that need to be
regulated and have stipulation put on them.
Guns can be bought by just about anybody so there should be restrictions because they are unsafe
and cause more crime. The more guns there are the more crime there is. Children can also get ahold
of guns and bad things can happen so why don't we just take them all way to begin with.
In closing, the United States has had many problems with gun control and trying to implement laws
to take guns out of people's hands and to try to make sure people keep guns because they have the
right, and the government should not enforce stricter gun laws and regulations because doing so
would have negative effects on the government and the people of the United

Gun Politics Of The United States

  • 1. Gun Politics Of The United States Gun Politics in the United States Despite the United States having the strictest law on guns, yet mass shooting is still taking place in all states. Not only the country, but also the states have their own laws, which lawmakers and other jurisdictions around the country have passed. All fifty states have their own laws regarding guns. For example, Chicago has had a handgun ban for more than thirty years, yet it is one of top states with shooting murder on rise. Although heaps of rules and regulations are in place, they still aren't being enforced in a correct matter. Guns indeed are very powerful firearms, which can cause extreme damage such as death. Even though, a plethora of individuals have guns from safety purpose, but when the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The second amendment was adopted in 1791 and added to the U.S. Constitution to defend themselves from the enemies; Indian, Spanish and especially British who had tried to overturn the activities of the Militia. Americans during that time looked for a written right that allowed them to keep weapons to defend their families and their country. Even though many argue whether guns should be banned or not in Washington D.C., but in 2008, the U.S. Supreme Court stated in a case known as "District of Columbia v. Heller". The ruling established that the Second Amendment to the Constitution –– "the right of the people to keep and bear arms" –– means that individuals, and not just the police and military, may own guns. This rule by the U.S. Supreme Court basically stated that it is ones right to keep a gun at home for self–defense, but didn't state anything about controlling guns. According to Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), the Gun Control Act of 1968 indicates that it is banned to sell firearms to numerous categories of individuals, which includes people under eighteen years old, those who have criminal records, the mentally incapacitated, illegal immigrants, dishonorably discharged military personnel, and others. The website also states that in 1993, the law was improved by the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act, which basically stated that it was important to have authorized background checks ... • 3. The Gardens Of Democracy By Eric Liu And Nick Hanauer Introduction Throughout the world, many contemporary issues occur in the world of Politics. Democracy is also involved with several contemporary issues. According to Merriam–Webster's Dictionary (merriam–webster.com 2014), the word democracy is defined as a government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised by them directly or indirectly through a system of representation usually involving periodically held free elections (merriam–webster.com 2014 ). Like in many political parties, democracy faces several political issues throughout time. Political issues are issues that involves with the government or politics. This includes issues related to party politics, political system, or social, environmental or other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the political issues that Democratic Party talks about is the issue on abortion. The reason why I am talking about abortion is because abortion is an ongoing political issue that is discussed many times and the Democratic Party supports abortion. The Democratic Party strongly and fully supports the Roe v. Wade case and a woman 's right to make their decisions about pregnancy, which includes a safe and legal abortion (ontheissues.org 2014). Abortion is an exceedingly personal decision between a woman's family and friends. The Roe v. Wade case had the Court summarily announced that the "Fourteenth Amendment 's concept of personal liberty and restrictions upon state action" includes "a right of personal privacy, or a guarantee of certain areas or zones of privacy," and that "this right of privacy is broad enough to encompass a woman 's decision whether or not to terminate her pregnancy" (law.justia.com 2014). This makes no place for politicians or government to get in the way. Democracy also recognizes that health care and educational support reduces the number of unexpected pregnancies and thereby, it also reduces the needs for abortions. However, there are also debates against abortions in the United States of America. Recently, there was a debate about abortion which was led by Scott Walker and Mary Burke. Mary Burke is a democratic candidate for the governor of Wisconsin and she pledged to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I will be talking about the 2nd amendment, public safety, home safety, and do gun control laws really control guns. I hope after you have read this you will be more educated, and can pick your side of the gun control debate. So keep reading and find out more about the gun control laws that the federal and some state governments want to enforce on U.S. Citizens. Also 40–45% of households own guns or 47–53 million households. Adults owning guns is 30–34% or 70–80 million adults. Adults owning a handgun is 17–19% or 40–45 million adults." Why, even after Newtown were a shooting left six people dead, are gun laws ascending. The starting point for this is violent crime rates. According to politics/policy "National gun control push began in Ernest in the late 1960's, an era of sharply rising murder and assault rates, especially in large cities. Violence markedly increased for three decades, throughout 1993, providing gun skeptics with a plausible basis to argue that limiting access to firearms might help address the scourge." In December 1993, seventy percent of Americans supported stricter gun control, according to the pollster at CNN. Indeed, "since the early 19th century ...[America has been] the most homicidal country in the Western world" and holds that title today (Kelley, 2009). In a 2007–2008 list of 31 nations, only two nations, Mexico and Chile, had higher homicide rates (Comparison, 2010). Nations with higher populations, such as India and China have fewer homicides (Comparison, 2010). Further, a nation such as Japan, which has a lower population but a higher population density then the United States, has one of the world's lowest homicide rates (Comparison, 2010). Population size and density, therefore, cannot be the chief reasons for this nation's higher homicide rates. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Indeed, the American love of criminals always seems connected to this feeling. Americans champion criminals if the can view their actions as an attempt to stab back at those they blame for their misfortunes (such as "robbing from the rich" or "killing dangerous people') as a benefit to society. For example, John Dillinger's bank robberies during depression era foreclosures satisfied the anger many Americans had against the rich banks who were taking their homes (Esposito, 2009). This may be the reason why many view certain criminals who take from the wealthy or who take action against government or political rulers as folk heroes – because they fulfill all public dreams of getting even, settling the score, and making things fair. Indeed, this is what may have driven Jared Lee Loughner to shoot Gabrielle Giffords. This point of view is seen today in gang members' need to defend their honor by killing each other when members of other gangs "enter their turf" as it is in the murder of abortion doctors by Christian extremists who believe God is on their side because murder is wrong. Gun Laws American culture, of course, is also a reason why America is one of the few industrialized nations in the world where gun ownership is a civil right. Guns Should Be Banned Persuasive Essay At a country music festival in Las Vegas, thousands of people were enjoying the calm atmosphere, until a gunman fired into the crowd from the 32nd floor of his hotel room, killing fifty–nine people and injuring about 5oo people. The man has been identified as Stephen Paddock, a sixty–four–year– old man that resided in Reno, Nevada. Many of his family members were shocked that he had the capability of killing any living thing. In his home, police found twenty–three guns and nearly nineteen more in the hotel room, but only one automatic rifle was used during the attack. According to Paddock's brother, Stephen was a gambler who had 'no history of violence' and could care less about religion and politics (Eric Paddock). This is expected since usually, no one suspects someone they know to commit such a horrific act. Psychopaths and terrorists similar to Paddock hide that part of themselves to people, in order to remain mysterious and non–suspecting. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Problem Of Gun Control One possible solution of gun problem in the United States The ownership of firearm became legally in United States since their second amendment of the constitution enacted in 1791. It seems a symbol of the right to freedom, however, it has also brought a great convenience to criminals. The gun shooting accident are repeatedly happening in United States each year and lots of innocent people get hurt. What more serious is, the number of such tragedies are continuing increase. Many people living in the United States are worried about the safety of their lives. While the public are appealing the gun ban, but there are some obstacles from laws and politics. Therefore, the aim of this essay is to explain the problems of gun ownership in United States and then gives some possible solutions, as well as the challenges of the solutions. One of the major problem arising from the privatization of firearms is that criminals can easily get the weapon, thus increasing the probability of gun violent. According to the research, the incidence of the U.S. group shootings accounted for 31% of the world. If narrow the scope of the crime scene to schools and workplaces, the U.S. takes account of 62% of the world. Another thing to notice is that in the most shooting cases, the firearms are legally acquired (News Encyclopaedia 2016). Did you ever feel like you didn't fit in and you weren't accepted? Well, I don't think it's much of a problem for the outsiders in this upcoming presidential election. The presidential candidates, Donald J. Trump and Bernie Sanders, are known as the "outsiders" of the election but, are gaining so much support and acceptance. Sanders is a highly Liberal candidate who wishes for many free social systems for the United states while Trump is a conservative business man who wishes to "Make America Great Again" ("About Donald..."). The people that are voting for Trump are not going to back down any time soon or change their minds but, when it comes down to a general election, the majority of the United States population seems to side with Bernie Sanders. Donald Trump is a very successful business man that is just trying his hand in politics this election. He was born in Queens, New York on the fourteenth of June in 1946 and later graduated business school at the Warton School of Finance. Other than the acting chairman and president of his own organization, Trump has become a successful author of over 15 bestselling books including "The Art of the Deal." He is also an Emmy nominee for his show "The Apprentice" which coined the phrase "you're fired!"("About Donald J. Trump"). • 17. Gun Control In America Pros And Cons The segment of American politics know as gun control came about in the 20th century with the passing of the National Firearms Act (NFA) in 1934. Congress passed this act in response to Prohibition–era gangs and the extreme violence that they caused. With the passage of the NFA the federal government set into motion the beginning of gun politics in America. The history of modern gun control has been fiercely fought in and out of the courts by parties on both sides of the issue with several key court rulings. Gun control politics is primarily made up of two sides with several groups on both sides. On the one side you have gun rights activists and the other you have the gun control activists. The NFA was the first attempt at gun control by the federal government and the foundation for other gun control measures. The NFA imposed a tax on two types of firearms ... The district court that the case was heard on agreed with the plaintiff and quashed the indictment. This set the grounds for the case to go to the Supreme Court of the United States. When the case was heard in the Supreme Court only the government's attorneys were there to argue the case. Mr. Miller did not show up because he had been murdered by former associates of his. The United States has the highest gun ownership rate in the world with 88 guns per 100 people. This is a staggering amount of firearms in the U.S. which our forefathers would 've never imagined when writing the 2nd Amendment. The 2nd Amendment states that "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." Anti gun control supporters, such as the National Rifle Association, often claim that the act of regulating guns is a sufficient reason why such an Amendment was introduced in the constitution; to protect themselves from any and all forms of violation of civil liberties and freedom. Supporters of anti gun laws are unwilling to welcome any interpretations of the 2nd Amendment that do not match up "word for word," as was written in the Bill of Rights. Although the 2nd Amendment only contains one sentence, the interpretation of it can be misconstrued if the use of critical thought is not applied during the analysis. Supporters of gun control argue that the ambiguous language in the 2nd Amendment leads to confusion about the interpretation. That in itself warrants further discussion about rewriting the 2nd Amendment or simply eradicating it. Also, the provision is outdated and no longer coincides with the times. In regards to the addition of "well regulated militia," guns were meant to protect people from tyranny and any form of militarized government suppression. • 21. Argumentative Essay On Gun Control Indeed, the United States has a long tradition of holding guns. The public opinion with guns is deeply based. A survey conducted by the Pew Research Center in 2017 showed that 48% of the population grew up in armed families; 72% believed that most people should have the right to have guns or that almost everyone had the right to hold guns; 61% believed that the people have the right to hold almost all types of firearms or most types of firearms; 56% believe that gunners should be allowed to hold guns in almost any location or in most places. The right to hold guns is both a constitutional provision and a "political correctness," and gun control faces many practical resistances. However, with the continuous occurrence of vicious shooting incidents, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On the issue of gun legislation, the Democratic Party tends to establish a strict gun control law and tries to pass it through the National Assembly. The Republican Party, on the other hand, strives to prevent the passage of laws and regulations from the standpoint of fighting for party interests such as voters and election expenses. Therefore, the bill proposed by the Democrats is difficult to pass in the Senate, where the Republicans dominate. Since most of the constituency divisions in the House of Representatives are decided by Republican–controlled state legislatures, the Republicans have more "stable" seats than Democrats do. In the constituencies of these members of the House of Representatives, politicians are more sensitive to their voters, and these voters are also more inclined to vote on popular issues such as gun rights. The penalty for offending these voters is much higher than alienating voters who support gun control, because voters who support gun control often do not participate in the Republican primary election. The demographic structure also played a role in the support of the House of Representatives in support of guns, because the proportion of gun owners is higher in urban areas than in urban areas. • 23. Argumentative Essay On Gun Control The Problem with Guns The idea and practice of "gun–control" is needs to change. The mass shootings around the nation show that gun violence in the United States of America is an epidemic. To battle the carnage, to keep our children and citizenry safe, some jurisdictions, schools, and public venues have enacted "gun–free" zones and advocated restricting gun ownership. Columbine High School was a gun–free zone. Virginia Tech? Gun free. Cinemark Theater, Aurora, Colorado, Sandy Hook Elementary, and the Pulse Nightclub, they were all "gun–free" zones. The baseball field where the shooting took place this month, just south of our nation's capital, has some of the most restrictive gun laws in the nation. Gun control measures as practiced by most jurisdictions–i.e. "gun–free zones," an act imposed by the government upon the people in an effort to change behavior–an effort working from the outside in have failed. Notwithstanding the intent, these laws do nothing to empower or protect law abiding citizens. Furthermore, keeping law abiding citizens from being able to defend, protect, and save themselves is irresponsible as it is horrific. Statistics show compared to other nations, the United States has the highest gun ownership rate–112 firearms per 100 civilians. 1 These numbers make it seem that there is an overabundance of firearms in the U.S. To protect the citizens it might make sense, as some proponents advocate, to restrict gun ownership to a few. • 25. The Importance Of Gun Control After the recent mass shootings, the gun control debate has reached its boiling point. We need gun control laws? Gun control, ownership, and laws should be changed immediately.Did you know that 33 people are killed with guns every day in America. Something needs to be done about gun control because the death rate is steadily rising and guns are one of the leading causes of death in the United States. One reason gun control laws should be changed, Gun control statistics reveal that although The United States accounts for only 5% of the world's population, U.S residents own 50% of guns in the world. The prevalence of suicide is 5 times higher in homes having guns.In a study from 2016 it shows that 14.5 million people had a ccw permit, that was the largest increase ever in the number of permits. Also when owning a gun, there is a 43 times higher likelihood of killing a family member, friend,or neighbor than an intruder. When gun deaths statistics for different countries were expressed as the number of gun deaths in a population of a million people, the United States was ranked below South Africa. A quote from John McGinnis said "Gun control does not decrease gun ownership by criminals, but instead reduces their incentives to refrain from violence because it decreases the supply of armed law–abiding citizens who might resist them."More recently, a 2013 study in Switzerland compared suicide rates before and after an army reform that cut the number of Swiss soldiers by half. ... One of the guns used in Columbine was a 9mm carbine and in the Sandy Hook massacre a Bushmaster XM15–E2S rifle were both assault weapons. Dylan Klebold and Eric Herres got their weapons illegally same with the people that shoot up Sandy Hook. If assault weapons were banned at that time all of the students that died that day would still be alive and probably should have bright futures. That just proves that anyone can get assault weapons illegally or legally. Assault weapons should be banned because they could get sold illegally to the wrong people and cause violence. • 31. The Pros And Cons Of Gun Control There has been a big controversy between people and politics on whether guns should be banned or not. People feel have the right to buy guns, however others do not feel safe having them around. Some states have the open carry gun law. There are positive and negative effects to selling and buying of guns. Gun control is a sticky subject to talk about because of people's beliefs, opinions, and the way they were raised. They congress should enforce gun control and the buying and selling of guns. They should be stricter about the laws that states who can buy a gun and what they have to pass to obtain it. Some Americans feel that guns should not be banned. It is the second amendment of the constitution. That says Everyone has the right to bare arms. They feel it is the American way of life. "Since gun ownership so strongly symbolizes what it means to be American, you have to stay away from it." (Keijzer) One reason guns should not be banned is because it is considered a necessity for protection and self defense. There is a law in Mississippi that says you have the right to protect yourself if someone breaks in your house. For example, a single young woman living by herself has the right to protect herself if anyone harms her in anyway. Secondly, people consider using it for a sport. With Civilians and politicians alike arguing over how they should be regulated we have many arguments for the pros and cons of both sides. Gun control is now one of the most talked about subject in the country due to the vast amount of mass murders and school shootings that have been taken place in recent years. However, even with all this gun violence taken place it seems to have only made people take more stubborn stance on their opinion of how the gun laws should be handled. Whether it be about the President, the weather change, there is always something to talk about. One of the major issues that has been talked about for an extended period of time is gun control and the issues that follow it. There are two specific articles that were chosen today; one of which from the Chicago Sun Times website, and the other from the New York Times. The issues following gun control have been very outrageous in my opinion. Let us talk about the city of Chicago, for instance. Chicago is known for its dangers. Being one of the most dangerous cities throughout the entire United States of America, gun violence has been a major issue over the years. As much as people say it will get better, things only get worse. In the Chicago Sun Times article, we take a look at how this issue was attempted to be solved. From the year of 2013 until present day, more than 7,000 weapons were collected each year. Chicago, to most people, is considered to be the murder capital of the U.S. Most of the murders were committed by guns. This is extremely sad, because think about all of the innocent lives that were taken; mothers, children, you name it. One of the main things that contribute to most of the gun violence is the fact that the city of Chicago has many gangs. Gang members will do everything and anything they can to make sure they hurt their rivals, regardless of the outcome. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What makes the USA different from other developed countries is their right to own private guns, and the citizens makes full use of this law. Approximately under half of the American households have at least one gun. This makes the United States the highest country in the world when it comes to ownership of private guns. Statistics shows that one is more likely to shoot someone by accident than shoot a home invader. Owning a gun in the house may increase the possibility of suicide situations. According to Mother Jones (http://www.motherjones.com/politics/2012/07/mass–shootings–map), most of the guns that were used in the last 30 years of mass killing acts in the USA was owned legally by the killers. The almighty goal is to have all the guns taken away from gun owners and future gun owners. The policies have adjusted citizens to go through a process just to obtain a gun license or permit. For example, rigorous background checks and sponsorship from law enforcement. This process contradicts the 2nd Amendment from the U.S Constitution. Mexico has one of strictest gun control laws in the world and yet they've massive shootings. Mexico has only one legal gun store compared with at least 63,709 legal gun stores and pawn shops in the United States. Strict gun control laws do not work in Mexico, and will not work in the United States. We should not lose the right to bear arms because it keeps us safe, less crime, and it's a right that the government shouldn't take. At first, gun control laws do not deter crime; gun ownership deters crime. Various people say that without guns there is less deaths, but that's not true because people would find other ways to kill. Amending the Second Amendment On December 12, 2013, a heavily armed man walked into a small elementary school in Connecticut and opened fire, ending the lives of 26 children and teachers, not only shattering the quiet of the small town but leaving our nation lurching at the number of young lives lost. The horror of this event renewed people's passion on both sides of the fiercely debated issue of gun control and brought the issue to the forefront of American politics once again. While no new gun control laws have been passed since this tragedy, the debate over how to interpret the 2nd amendment continues. Gun control laws are the government's way of regulating the manufacture, sale, transportation, possession, and use of firearms. In our world today, we face the vast controversy of gun control and who should be able to possess a destructive firearm, and under what conditions. These laws differ significantly around the world, and in fact the laws in the United States vary by state. Supporters of strict gun laws argue the dangers of allowing citizens broad rights to possess firearms. Opponents claim that they wish to have a source of defense in their home, and also that certain regulations may violate their individual rights. Gun control laws are protected by the second amendment in the Bill of Rights, the right to bear arms. Wilson in his book mentions that there is a need for: (a) weapons to be keep away from the wrong people, (b) an increase in safety involving guns, and that (c) some policy may need to be changed. The problem with changing policy for advocates and non– advocates is agreeing on what policy is appropriate. • 49. American Social Policy And Social Change Essay Here in the United States, disputes about the axiological restructuring of American social policy and social change are at the forefront of our policymaking, and one can assume it will remain so for the anticipated future. The belief that change is necessary is evident to all Americans, but which path to take is immensely different. Abramovitz states that, "Ideology is more that abstract ideas. It has raised hopes, inspired fear, and drawn blood for millions of human beings" (2008). Americans stand to make their ideologies on platforms when they elect politicians who share in their beliefs, ideologies, and cultural norms into positions of power. When this occurs, Americans look to their politicians to adhere to their beliefs and take the path to change they see fit. Throughout history, there is a persistent power struggle between American political parties, primarily Republican and Democrat, and the ideologies they harbor. When one party has a more dominant omnipresence, the overall ideology of the country tends to shift. In 2007, Karger & Stoesz state that, "Ideological trends influence social welfare when adherents of one orientation hold sway in decision– making capacities" (p.5). According to Gil, "Choices in social welfare policy are heavily influenced by the dominant beliefs, values, ideologies, customs, and traditions of the cultural and political elites recruited mainly from among the more powerful and privileged strata" (1981, p.32). The reason why I am talking about abortion is because abortion is an ongoing political issue that is discussed many times and the Democratic Party supports abortion. The Democratic Party strongly and fully supports the Roe v. Wade case and a woman 's right to make their decisions about pregnancy, which includes a safe and legal abortion. Abortion is an exceedingly personal decision between a woman's family and friends. Mary Burke is a democratic candidate for the governor of Wisconsin and she pledged to work to withdraw a law signed by Walker in July 2013 where women must get an ultrasound in order to get an abortion (Jason Stein and Bill Glauber 2014). Burke also said women should be allowed to make health–care decisions by theirselves. In John Geer, Wendy Schiller, and Jeffery Segal's textbook Gateways to Democracy (2012), it is written that abortion remains a conspicuous issue in national politics with the Supreme Court's role front and center, and senators had asked many questions ... Some political issues might also become important for the public for several reasons. Many people, especially opponents of stricter gun control laws, assert that the U.S. Constitution gives individuals the right to hold arms. However, many other people do not accept this opinion. For them the Constitution guarantees common defense by individual arms bearing. Why was the Second Amendment created? First of all, the Second Amendment was passed in the 18th century, a much different time than the 21th century. The background of the Second Amendment is, during the Revolutionary era, the fear of British standing armies strongly encouraged the need for the Second Amendment. Many colonists felt that they needed guns, and other weapons, to protect their civil liberties. Samuel Adams wrote, that a "standing army, however necessary it may be at sometimes, is always dangerous to the liberties of the people" (quoted in Greco). According to the most recent cases that Supreme Court directly dealt with the Second Amendment: Columbia v. Heller, and McDonald v. Chicago. These two cases all ruled that laws banning the registration of handguns was unconstitutional (Greco). However, according to earlier cases: U.S. v. Cruikshank, Presser v. Illinois, and Miller v. Texas. These three cases all ruled that states have the right to restrict guns (Greco). The people against stricter gun laws rallied against the two officials who voted for gun control after a mass shooting in a theater in Colorado. • 69. Persuasive Essay On Assault Weapons One of the many controversies in today's society and politics is putting a ban on assault weapons. Putting a ban on assault weapons will not reduce crime. There are many other weapons people could use for crime. The banning assault weapons would not stop the number of homicides or suicides either. The United States' gun laws are nothing like other countries who've reduced crime in their nation. Other countries like Germany and the U.K. have developed successful laws and bans. The ban on assault weapons would not reduce crime, so U.S. citizens need a different approach at a ban. The ban's real purpose is to make the public feel more safe. The Washington Post says "Its only real justification is not to reduce crime but to desensitize the public to the regulation of weapons in preparation for their ultimate confiscation." The withholding of handguns cannot happen unless people yield certain types of weapons to change mentality. On the other hand, weapons like some semiautomatics got left off of the ban. This means that people could get their hands on military– style guns and also mass shootings ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When the ban expired, the crime rate rose to twenty percent. Vox states that "the data shows the guns that kill the most in this country aren't the big, scary– looking ones. They're handguns." There have been huge death tolls because of handguns. Vox concludes that "Modern handguns also have the lethal ability to fire multiple bullets in quick succession – and just because they look less ominous doesn't mean we should treat them as any less dangerous." • 73. The Pros And Cons Of Gun Control As opponents against gun control have numerous reasons as to why guns should not be restricted amongst the American public but pointed to the Second Amendment to the United Constitution as the main reason why gun control should not be permitted in the U.S. However, what these critics do not want to accept is that since 1980, several crucial events in the United States have led to excessive gun control movement. Remarkably, it takes a lot more than one appalling catastrophe to influence Americans that more attention should be taken into monitoring the number and types of guns the public can get access to. However, some major shooting calamities in the U.S such as assassination attempts on President Reagan's, Columbine, Virginia Tech, and Sandy Hook have all triggered majority of Americans to take a stance in favor of gun control legislation. The first key push in the direction of the gun control movement begun during the era of Ronald Reagan presidency since he happened to be of one of the most "pro gun" presidents in American history. During the first few months of his presidency, a notorious assassination effort nearly terminated his life. This almost tragic moment in history happened on March 30, 1981, as President Reagan finished delivering his speech at the Washington Hilton Hotel, to a group of union members of the AFL–CIO.21. Nonetheless, unknowingly to the President's Secret Service detail was a 25 year–old named John Hinckley Jr. was waiting outside the hotel, with the determination of killing president Reagan. According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) records states, at 2:25 P.M., as the President go out of the hotel from side of the VIP entrance, and made his way to his limousine, six successive shots were fired from Mr. Hinckley's handgun, in the direction of the President and his Secret Service detail. The FBI accounts state, "President Reagan was struck in the left chest area by a bullet along with his press Secretary Brady who was also shot from the same spate of bullets which entered his brain above his left eye." and also two of his Secret Service Agent McCarthy and officer Delahanty. • 75. Argumentative Essay: Gun Control In The United States Gun Control Do you want to always feel safe in your home, at school, or at work? Well, increasing gun control laws will rip that sense of security away from you. Gun control does not work; it endangers the citizens of the United States because the crime rates will rise like they have in Chicago. Politicians do not know how to fix gun violence, gun control has failed miserably and it is unconstitutional. Gun control will make the crime rate increase. According to "There Is a Problem with Politics, Not Guns, in the United States," an article on Opposing Viewpoints, "The fact is the failure of Liberalism has brought the city to its current state of deterioration." This statement sheds light on the fact that Chicago, which has some of the strictest gun control laws in this country is one of the gun violence and homicide capitals of the nation. "The Chicago model of unconstitutional restrictions on keeping and bearing arms has done little more than add fuel to the fire. Politicians, meanwhile, have been more than happy to ignore the easily identifiable, but politically tricky, origins of gang violence and criminal activity"(1). Gun control disarms the law–abiding citizens, paving the way for criminals with illegal weapons to massacre our women and children. In an article written by Judith Valente, provided by Jason Ewell: "Chicago has stricter gun laws than most of the rest of the United States, and it also has much more ... • 77. Should There Be Stricter Gun Laws In The United States? The United States has had issues with gun control for the longest time. Everything from assassinations in the 20th century to the Sandy Hook shooting. Guns have been a major topic in debates and politics in general. Guns have caused many problems in history and they also have solved and still do solve many problems in the United States today because of things such as concealed weapons permits that have exponentially reduced crimes like murder and rape in the United States. The United States government should not enforce stricter gun laws because stricter gun laws have negative effects on the government and the people of the United States. If the government makes new laws increasing the restriction on guns the prices on guns will go up because of the fact that guns are already worth a whole lot more in the street and making them illegal will ... Children can also get ahold of guns and bad things can happen so why don't we just take them all way to begin with. In closing, the United States has had many problems with gun control and trying to implement laws to take guns out of people's hands and to try to make sure people keep guns because they have the right, and the government should not enforce stricter gun laws and regulations because doing so would have negative effects on the government and the people of the United ...
