Cosmetics Research Proposal
Proposal Do we really know what is cruelty free in the fashion and beauty industry?
This dissertation is going to look mainly at animal testing in the fashion and beauty industry and
whether customers know what they are purchasing is really cruelty free. It is also going to give an
insight of what cruelty is and whether or not there can be alternatives. Although this topic is not
directly linked to fashion, cosmetics are a big part of fashion shows and are used widely by fashion
designers and models. This a very important and controversial topic as even though people are
aware of animal testing and feel negative towards it they are not doing enough or don't know how to
help stop it for good. All evidence including peer–reviewed journal articles and books will be
sourced from the library and the online library catalogue. Information sourced from British Union
for the Abolition of Vivisection (BUAV) articles.
Chapter 1
What is Cruelty and why should it be spoke about?
This Chapter will be uncovering what animal cruelty is and what affect it is having on the animal
world. Animal testing is a horrific and disturbing event were an animal is forced to undergo tests
that will cause them stress, suffering and in some cases lasting harm. In worse cases the animal is
killed after the experimentation. Mainly looking at animal testing in the cosmetics industry this
chapter will also discuss what happens in the experiments and why animals are tested for these

Animal Testing And Veterinary Purposes
"Scientists told to stop wasting animal lives," this is an article from The Guardian, written by Robin
McKie. It addresses the issues about using animals to test products for us to use such as, medicines
to try help treat serious illnesses and also for veterinary purposes. Animal testing is carried out by
scientists to also test items we use daily such as makeup but this article is not talking about those
particular issues. This article is discussing about undergoing new guidelines for those that are
carrying out research using animals. The Research Council UK say they are now making scientists
show their work will not only produce physiological understanding but will also generate
statistically sturdy data. If not they will end up losing their funding.
This article made me understand more about the research scientists undergo using animals to
conduct their research. UK scientists have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some statistics that overwhelmed me was that in Great Britain, 2013, 4.12 million scientific
procedures were done on animals, they were mostly rats and mice. About half of them involved
animals being gentically modified when breeding. The other half involved experiments on normal
animals, 58% of those were carried out for regular research, 26% for human medicine and only a
frightening 8% for veterinary purposes. I personally think that scientists just keep using animals
because their project isn't flawless and because they don't care about the animals and use as much as
they like and I thinlk that is cruel because they are wasting animals lives. Neuroscientist Malcolm
Macleod says, "there has been an increasing awareness that some

Using Animals Symbolically by Using Poetic Devices Essay
Using Animals Symbolically by Using Poetic Devices
I will be discussing the ways in which the poets use animals symbolically by using poetic devices.
The three poems that I have chosen are "The Tyger" by William Blake, "The Eagle" by Alfred, Lord
Tennyson. Lastly, Pied Beauty by Gerard Manley Hopkins. Alfred Lord
Tennyson has used an image of an eagle to give the reader an image of a man standing on a cliff top
waiting for his world to fall around him. He is in a desolate area; there is no society near him
"ringed with the azure world. He stands". He watches the sea pass lower than him his world
collapses beneath him n he falls.
"And like a thunderbolt he falls"
The sun has symbolized God. And his closeness to the eagle. ... Show more content on

However, the poem is trying to tell us that the eagle is standing "close to the sun in lonely lands" and
that the enormous sea is beneath him. These are the ways that the poet has used the eagle
symbolically and to illustrate his strength and power standing high in the sky.
"Tyger! Tyger! Burning bright"
This is an example from "The Tyger"
Metaphors of fire and blazing are emphasize by duplication of the "B" sound. The "B" sound makes
it stronger and powerful to use.
My second choice is "Pied Beauty". Gerard Manley Hopkins who was born in 1844 wrote this
poem. The poem is tells us about all the different creatures that God has shaped. Explaining how for
many belongings in nature there is a contradictory. He is also telling the reader that we should be
thankful towards it and the entire God gifted.
In the poem, there are uses of some oxymoron's by using them it shows the different extremes that
exist within nature. This is similar to the Tyger. In addition, that shows the readers that to
keep the balance on the planet God has created an opposite. "Adazzle, dim". "With swift, slow;
sweet, sour"
He uses animals as one of God's gift for our nature and used them symbolically for the exquisiteness
of the planet.
My third choice of poem is "The Tyger" written by William Blake. This poem shows the evilness of

Animal Testing Argumentative Essay
Look at the tag of your shirt, where does it say its from? Now, does it say how many people it took
to make it or how much time it took? Apply that same logic to when you buy shampoo. Does it say
how many animals died when they tested the product? No, it does not. Companies and factories do
this for a reason, they want us to be unaware of the facts. Within the next few moments I hope to
enlighten you with information you may not know about animal testing.
Animal testing can be traced all the way back to the 4th century BCE. Charles Darwin documented
evidence that Aristotle began using live animals for experiments. But testing products on animals
began in 1922 when testing insulin on dogs. This began after a woman lost her eyesight due to
chemicals in a mascara she used. This incident forced the federal government to create the federal
food, drug, and cosmetic act. This act that was passed in 1938 and made it mandatory for companies
to test on animals before ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Two of the most common methods used are the draize test and the LD50 test. In the draize test a
drop of the substance is placed into the animal's eye and the reactions are observed. LD50 means
lethal dose. The LD50 test is when researchers feed or apply a particular substance dermally to the
animals until half of the animals being tested die. But, just because a certain thing does not affect
animals does not mean it will not affect humans. For example, theobromine in chocolate cake is
toxic to dogs, and aspirin causes a reaction in cats. Another example is the thalidomide tragedy. The
thalidomide tragedy was caused by a sleeping pill, pharmacists thought the medication would be
safe for pregnant women as well. However, it caused many newborns worldwide to be born with
deformed limbs. Then there is LC which means "lethal concentration." LC50 is the chemical in the
air or water that will kill 50% of the test animals with a single

2013, India abolished mandatory cosmetics testing on animals. There are places such as Israel, India
and the European Union which have banned cosmetics testing on animals. On the other hand, there
are countries like the United States and China that still allow makeup testing on animals. Many
organizations and groups are trying to find alternatives to help end cosmetics testing on animals.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, also known by their acronym P.E.T.A., is a serious and
dedicated organization trying to help end the cosmetic testing of animals. People for the Ethical
Treatment of Animals is very large; they have over 5 million people working and/ or supporting this
organization. P.E.T.A. has four main objectives or areas that they focus on. The section about
laboratories is where P.E.T.A. fights for animals whole are being tested on for cosmetics. People for
the Ethical Treatment of Animals has had many extraordinary accomplishments. One is their
creation of the In Vitro test, which is an alternative to using animals to test on. P.E.T.A. also has
spent a large sum of money, around one million dollars, to find alternatives to animal testing.
Another group is the European Coalition to End Animal Experiments. They have been around for
about 25 years. This coalition worked to help end cosmetic testing in the European Union, which
they ultimately did. Their huge goal is to completely abolish any tests on animals. In addition, The
European Coalition to End Animal Experiments also helped to set the rules for a product to be
identified as cruelty–free. Those rules were named the Humane Cosmetics Standards. The Johns
Hopkins University Center for Alternatives to Animal Testing is another organization. This

Should Animal Testing Be Used In Biomedical Research
Did you know that the shampoo that you use was probably forced down the throat of a rabbit, cat, or
evan a dog. Each year millions of animals are tested for how safe and effective products are. They
are being forced–fed harmful chemicals that can have severe damages to the animal.
Animals testing should be banned from being tested because it is very cruel and harmful, and also
there are also alternate testing methods to use.
Around 17 to 22 million animals are being tested for harmful products a year. They are having to go
through physical pain by being cut up, poisoned, burned, irradiated, gassed, shocked, dismembered
or genetically designed to suffer. Animals are being forced to have to go through so much pain
trying out the products you use today and then having to be trapped in cages for the rest of their
lives just because they might of not had a home. They are being abused for the scientists
experiments. In 2017 studies found that most of the data they gathered was false, and wasting the
animals lives. According to the article from procon.com¨Since the majority of animals used in
biomedical research are killed during or after the experiments, and since many suffer during the
studies, the lives and wellbeing of animals are routinely sacrificed for poor research.¨ ... Show more

technologies intended to eliminate or reduce animal testing." this method can save millions of lives
without having to harm anything and anyone in the process. These alternative methods for testing

The problem is that they are doing surgery on live animals and potentially hurting and changing the
way these animals are. I think the problem is unethical because the animals can become endangered.
It's more risky than doing surgery on humans. Animal's body cannot handle the pain and pressure
that it puts on their body. You have to know what you are doing before doing surgery on living
things. If we touch or do the wrong thing in their body, they can easily lose blood and die. Animals
are brought uncared for. Veterinarian schools for pets say 30–50% of endangered animals because of
schools doing surgery on mostly live animals. Veterinarian learning school also said 10% of animals
during surgery. Vet schools discovered that 20% of animals (of all kinds) being killed because of this

Did you know that 19,500,000 animals are killed each year for animal experimentation? Animal
testing is one of the highest leading causes of animal death. Many people don't think about how their
makeup product or lotion doesn't cause skin reactions. The products are first used in a number of
tests on a number of animals to make it safe for human use. These tests led to harming a handful of
helpless animals just for the benefit of one product for humans. Animals are put under microscopes

First people need to understand that using animals for testing isn't a cheap way to go. When testing
the protection of products, animal experimentation can become a very expensive process. The
United States spends roughly $12 billion to $14.5 billion on just animal experimentation in 2013
(University Wire). With such a large amount of money used just in one area of research, the results
should be way more accurate than they are. The United States is just losing all of its money in
animal testing because there is no end benefit in most cases. If experimentations on animals were
gone, there are more cost friendly testing methods. "In vitro testing is up to twelve times more cost
efficient in comparison to animal testing and does not involve an invasive procedure that infringes
on a sentient beings life" (University Wire). Vitro testing was a recently discovered form of testing
that has seen great results in such a small amount of time. Animal testing is an old procedure that
now has a new safer and cost–effective alternative. People think that if there wasn't animal
experimentation that humans would have to be the next test subjects. That might of been the case
back in the day, but now there are other ways in the always expanding technology world. An
alternative to animal testing is the ToxCast, which is a robot–powered system that is already found

Animal Experimentation Is Unnecessary?
People have animal, especially dog and cat, as a pet. They take care of animals and spend their lives
together. However, sacrificing animals is necessary to survive human's life. Moreover, using animals
as a laboratory table is become common because this can improve our health. Therefore, argument
about animal experimentation often leads to vigorous debate. Animal Experimentation Is
Unnecessary by Sarah A. Millar pointed out that animal experimentation wastes money and
brutalizes. Animal Experimentation Is Unethical by Robert Garner asserted that the social status of
animals is on a par with that of mortals. Animal Experimentation Is Necessary by Carl Cohen
claimed that vaccines about diseases, such as polio, have not practicalized unless animals were used
as a trial of side effect. Animal Experimentation Is Ethical by Henry E. Heffner argued that animal
experimentation profits not only humankind but also animals. On the surface at least, arguments
about animal experimentation seem different such as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is no doubt that animal experimentation profits human. It can safeguard human health. Animal
experimentation is not only helpful but also crucial advances for human. For example, people make
striking progress on vaccine about malaria, which killed three hundred million, by using mice as a
test. Therefore, people can gain advantage using animals. Moreover, Heffner pointed out that "
[animal experimentation] benefits humans, which in turn benefits lab animals" (Heffner 72).
According to him, the relationship between human and animal is mutualistic, which can profit both.
For example, the author pointed out laboratory is secure than in wild. In the wild, animals suffer
food and shelter and so on, so morality rate are high. However, in the laboratories, animals do not
have to worry about that because people will take care of them. Therefore, animals are bound to

Stop Using Products That Have Been Tested On Animals And...
Specific Purpose: The purpose of this speech is to motivate my audience to stop using products that
have been tested on animals and show them the other choices that they have out there.
Introduction:
Attention Step: According to PETA, "Animals are also used in toxicity tests conducted as part of
massive regulatory testing programs that are often funded by U.S. taxpayers' money. The
Environmental Protection Agency, the Food and Drug Administration, the National Toxicology
Program, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture are just a few of the government agencies that
subject animals to crude, painful tests." (PETA.org)
Establish Need/Relevance: What you have just heard is an example of what a portion of taxpayers
money goes toward. Certainly, there is a need for you as my audience to be aware of what goes on
during animal testing and what we can do to stop this.
Establish Credibility: I have 3 dogs at home that I absolutely love. I couldn't imagine one of my
sweet, loving animals being tested on. I decided to use products, especially make up brands that are
animal cruelty free. I want to see a change in the industry so I figured I would take a step towards
doing so.
Thesis Statement: Today, I will share 3 main points. (1) We should recognize what animal testing is
and the facts about it. (2) Specific brands that use animal testing. (3) The affects it has on animals.

Argumentative Essay On Animal Testing
Although many view using animals in medical experiments in a negative light, testing is necessary
to develop new medications and to advance medical research. Testing has brought many
advancements in the medical field, including lifesaving procedures and treatments for diseases.
Also, as a result it brought forth ethical laws of animal test subjects and development of veterinarian
medicine.
Animal experiments date back long ago, the first use of animals in experiments date back to when
ancient Greek physicians first used animals as models for anatomy and physiology. (Franco) Since
then testing has been an ongoing even into the twenty first century. During that time, many

for human use are now commonly employed throughout veterinary medicine. Pets, livestock, and
animals in zoos live longer, more comfortable, and healthier lives as a result of animal research"
(Committee on the Use of Animals in Research (U.S.) 14). Most people who own pets know that
giving pets vaccines and booster shot will help them and prevent them from deadly disease that
often prove fatal such as, rabies. Being one of the most recognizable disease in domestic pets testing
has given prevention to these pets. Furthermore, this has led to the promotion of humane treatment
of animals involved in experiments. The Laboratory Animal Welfare Act was passed by congress in
1966 in this act it regulates the standards for housing handling, feeding, veterinary care and use of
pain relieving drugs (Institute for Laboratory Animal Research (U.S.), National Research Council

this. One of the biggest changes that has come about is the approach of the Three Rs advocating the
replacement, reduction and refinement of experiments on animals. (Bottling, Bottling xix) Which

When vet schools used to use animals it wasn't thought as of being cruel to the animals it was
thought of as an educational experience (¨Are Live–Terminal Laboratories Necessary?¨). Although
these are good arguments there are also several arguments against using animals in vet school. Many
schools have backed away from using animals in their studies. " Fortunately only a dozen of the
nation's 125 accredited medical schools still use live animal labs" ("Medical Training Using
Animals"). This quotes is saying that 12 of the 125 schools still use animals for educational
purposes. That is only 9% of the medical Universities, in the United States ("Medical Training

animals are picked because of their body type, and by the procedures that can be done on them.
These 5 animals are commonly used because they are the most common animals that a veterinarian
will see in their office. These are also the easiest animals for a University to get their hands on
(¨GRADUATE AND PROFESSIONAL SCHOOLS¨). In labs, animals are anesthetized then injected

It is clear that cosmetics can contain chemicals which may have many dangerous side effects.
Before introducing new cosmetic products, the first important steps which the producer has to do is
testing the safety of the products. However, testing new cosmetic ingredients on human will lead to
the dangerous reactions and human skin cell testing is more expensive even though it is more
accurate. So, cosmetic companies use animals because they closely related to human if the animals
react badly then the companies know they need to fix their product. It may be bad to hurt animals
but it's certainly better than causing harm to people. In addition, it is common that many animals are
used in military defense. In the war, dogs especially Belgian Malinois and German shepherd are

Treatment of Animals, the case that launched it was the Silver Springs Monkey experiment that took
place in Silver Spring, Maryland. In this laboratory, 17 monkeys were held in small wired cages
with feces and urine that have accumulated over several years. The experiment was run by a
Psychologist named Edward Taub who had no previous medical training. The monkeys would be
subjected to many spinal surgeries that would cause one or more of their limbs to become useless.
They would be forced to regain mobility of their useless limbs by constantly being shocked. These
monkeys would lose fingers by getting them caught in the cage, some only had three out of ten
fingers left. They were food deprived and they would scavenge through their feces to find something
to eat (The Silver Spring Monkeys: The Case That Launched PETA).
There are many alternatives to animal testing. For example, synthetic skin; the synthetic skin has

When Animals Communicate, They Are Not Using Language
Have you ever gone home to hear your dog say 'hello'? Most likely not, but you might've seen it

useful to the animals, but aren't the same as language. They lack the 3 main traits of language which
are, as stated in the evidence, displacement, discreteness, and productivity. Animals also lack
something in their brain that enables them to learn real language. In paragraph 3, it states " Many

Pros And Cons Of Animal Testing
There are many reasons as to why animal testing is an unethical and outdated practice, yet it is still
being carried out in this day and age. Thanks to advances in scientific research, animal testing is no
longer a necessary evil, so its use is more of an inconvenience than an advantage. And although
there are many reasons as to why animal testing should be discontinued, costs, alternative testing,
and its psychological effects on animals are the strongest arguments as to why it should be banned.
Animal testing is a very pricey business on which millions of dollars are wasted each year –– money
that could be lent to more ethical and reasonable fields of research. Many of these tests take up to
four or five years, and during that time a higher and higher price is being accumulated. In the United
States, tests studying sister chromatid exchange can cost up to $22,000 when using an animal, but

Does Using Animals As Entertainment Violate Their Rights
Have you ever seen those animals at the zoo? Most people love visiting the zoo because you see
animals normally you wouldn't see in everyday life. Some people complain about the treatment of
the animals in the zoo. What if you could see the animals you can see at the zoo in everyday life?
Now it may sound absurd but imagine looking out your window and seeing someone walking a
giraffe! In many of the articles that I've read people have made very valid arguments about how if
not taken care of correctly exotic animals can be very dangerous animals.
My thoughts about this is that only certain people should be able to keep these animals as pets. Sort
of like a type of license to care for these animals, like a carrier's license for a firearm, only the
license for the exotic animals would be to prove that the people owning the animals meet the
requirements and proper education for caring for these animals. Basically how you would obtain the
license is taking tests to be sure you know how to take care of these exotic animals. Like a permit
for driving or license you would take an education course about the care and needs of the animals
you house and care for.
With this system in place people will learn how to take care of these animals and the animals will be
happier under the ownership of caring people. Many states have different laws on exotic ... Show

we need to have stricter laws about abuse of these animals and put way more thought into how every

Animals are not objects like trash that they can just be used then disposed. Animal are being used all
around the world for something that they really are not needed for. So many animals are being
harmed and dying because of animal experimentation. Maybe if it was for science it might have
been important but animal experimentation is not needed for science anymore because scientist have
found alternate ways to experiment things without taking lives. Just like us animals also have rights

countless things that can be used for experimentation than animals. So many labs and scientists are
using theses new ways to end animal experimentation. Also, scientist can test and do experiments
for countless things without worrying about laws and the amount of animals that are dying

Charles Siebert 's An Elephant Crackup?
Over the past few decades, relations between animals and humans have been modified drastically.
From domesticated species' to wildlife, it seems as though human interaction has taken a dramatic
toll on the way animals' function in the 21st century. Particularly, an account that focuses on this
dramatic toll is that of Charles Siebert's, an essayist whose observations bring a fascinating
perspective to the correlation between wildlife habitat disruption and uninhibited human nature.
Siebert's essay for The New York Times Magazine, entitled, "An Elephant Crackup?" has raised
many eyebrows over the past few years with regard to the destruction of a species that might suffer
from something more than meets the eye. The author of this essay is aware of his audience, so
respectively, the tone of his essay diverges into a new plane, a plane that is dreary and drab, yet in
the same way, remains thought provoking and systematically contingent. Siebert doesn't waste a
second pushing his account across the table. New information is provided within each paragraph,
which proves his use of systematic contingency. Charles Siebert, who is also responsible for writing
"Wickerby: An Urban Pastoral" (1999), a tale that revolves around the surroundings and
observations of Siebert, understands what it means to tie in environmental awareness with solution,
and his solution is hidden within the text. Extinction is a topic that is commonly discussed when
issues like this are brought up, however, a

Arguments Against Animal Testing
Imagine walking into a cosmetic or medical research laboratory and seeing thousands of animals
locked up in cages, deformed, injured, even dead. In 2010 a total of 26 million animals in the US
were tested on (thehastingscenter.org). Animals have the closest genetics to humans than anything
else yet animal testing is a cruel and inhumane job and not all animals have similar organ functions
to humans. Animals should not be used for scientific or commercial testing.
Some people might argue that there is no better alternatives for testing then animals. Over the years,
however, science has created many alternatives for animal use in testing. One alternative is, using
donated human tissue and organs. With this method less animals will die for human research. This
has also been proven to be up to 20% more accurate than an animal testing (Neavs). Another
alternative would be microdosing. Microdosing would take human volunteers and give them small
doses of drugs high enough to cause an effect but not high enough to affect the entire body (The
Hastings Center). By using these alternatives, less animals will be used ... Show more content on

kind is the "rodent cancer bioassay." Mice and rats are subjected to a lifetime of chemical exposure
to the chemicals in all new or reformulated pesticides, food additives, and drugs. Studies have
proven that these tests are found to have more than a 70 percent false–positive rate. The final group

I Run Away : A Short Story : Running Away
I ran away when I was ten years old. It was a small argument with my parents that provoked it. The
situation was contentious and furor. I wanted to have a sleepover with five girls from school, they
said that we couldn't fit five other girls in our apartment. I lashed out at them, throwing a full–
fledged tantrum, and then I left. Marched out of the door, ignoring their calls for me to come back.
My plan was to spend the night at my grandparents house and go back in the morning. It was a short
walk, only four blocks to my grandparents, but I didn't make it. On the second block the light was
about to turn red. I convinced myself I could make it and ran out into the middle of the street, only
to get struck by a car. Funny, I don't even remember dying. I don't remember what it felt like, or if I
saw God waiting for me. As soon as the car hit me, my eyes closed, only to be snapped open a few
seconds later. But I was no longer in the street, I was in my favorite park. I looked down to see my
wrinkled t–shirt and jeans had been replaced with a long, flowy white dress. I felt odd, almost
hollow. I broke out into a sprint, and ran in the direction of my house, but when I reached the front
gate of the park, I was thrown backwards by an invisible force. I hit the ground hard, and let out a
painful groan. I slowly got up, ignoring the pain in my side. I started to run out of the park when I
was thrown backwards again. I couldn't leave. Why couldn't I leave? Out of the corner of my eye I

Should We Still Be Using Animals As Our Test Subjects?
Should we still be using animals as our test subjects in 2014? Some people say animal testing is
good because it helps us find cures to serious illnesses, but in fact the chances of a cure which works
on humans has a very slim success to failure ratio. The best DNA match for humans are humans
themselves. I strongly believe that we should not be testing on animals and should be using
alternative testing methods such as in vitro (test tube) or in silico (computer modelling).
One of the main reasons for my the strength conviction is the fact that the animals do not have a
choice and are being forced to be tested, which can lead to them getting seriously ill or dying as a
result of the testing. Each year in the USA alone, an estimated number of 70 million animals are
taken away from their natural habitat and are blinded, scalded, force
fed chemicals and hurt and
killed in the name of science by private institutions, household product ,cosmetics companies and
scientific centres. This is not right in my opinion and I do not particularly see how it can be right in
any morally correct human being's opinion. So many animals experience pain or suffering and they
can not do anything about it. They are powerless in these situations and this is not fair, it's not right.

Argumentative Essay On Animal Testing
As society grows with age, it strives to advance in all areas of life. With the turn of the century, a
major advancement in all aspects of science, including medicine, is to use laboratory animals to test
potentially dangerous substances and research if the substances would be compatible with humans.
Many people have issues with animal testing as they believe it is inhumane to use animals to put
them in potentially dangerous situations. However, much progress has been made using animal
research. The information gained from animal research has paved the road to everything from hair
restoration to cancer treatments. Animal research has progressed humanity into new levels it could
only dream of and should remain an essential practice. Modern regulations have strict guidelines on
what actions may be performed on a living specimen. Before tests on any animals begins, a detailed
action plan must be approved by a board of scientists to determine whether any harm will come
from the procedure. Once approved, the experiment can proceed into its next stages. Commonly

INTRODUCTION & LITERATURE REVIEW:
Cancer is a growing health problem around the world. According to a report by the World Health

most common human neoplasm and account for 3% of all newly diagnosed cancer cases with
estimated 400,000 new cases annually (Parkin et al., 2005). Oral cancer mortality has risen and is

Using animals can actually show you what could happen to humans, but when just using lab tools
the scientists can't actually see what problems the humans could face. Using animals can also be
useful when you do not know what kind of chemical you are looking for. The changes in the gene
expression patterns give clues about what kind of chemical is used. If animals were not tested on we
would not have some of the products that we have today. Animal testing has led to many of our
cleaning products we use every day. Without animal testing we wouldn't have these products
because we wouldn't know if the product were safe for humans to use. Animal testing can

Describe your personality using a color, animal, or an object of your choice.
If I had to describe myself as an animal, I would choose a dog. Surprisingly, I didn't just choose this
because I like dogs. Don't get me wrong dogs are fantastic; but I chose a dog because of its
characteristics. Everyone knows about that little dog that barks louder than any dog on the block.
That dog is me; except lucky for you I don't bark, nor am I covered in hair with a tail. What I mean
to say is, from a distance I might seem intimidating, but once you come closer and get to know me
you'll realize I 'm actually a teddy bear. (metaphorically of course) I love to greet people, whether it
be friends or family, with open arms and make them feel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Taking advantage of the opportunity to attend college is a priority in my life. Furthermore, I am
passionate about being able to provide for my parents when I'm older. I hope to be able to, one day,
take care of my parents how they have for me during the past 16 years. Another passionate concern I
have is being able to help others. This is a concern of mine because I would love to be able to work
for something bigger than myself. An example of this would be the opportunity to work towards
curing a disease with no known cure. These passionate concerns are not all fully in my control, but
through hard work I feel as though I can bring them closer to reality.
3. During your senior year, discuss the area within yourself that you would like to see some growth
or improvement.
During my senior year, I would like to see myself grow through my contributions to the community.
In the past and present, I have volunteered through clubs such as National Honor Society and Class
Council. I would like to not only volunteer more through school clubs, but also through outside
facilities. Making a difference has always been something that is important to me. Through added
community service and volunteer work, I hope to be able to make a lasting change in the local
community.

The Benefit Of Omitting Animal Products
The Benefit of Omitting Animal Products Americans, as well as others throughout the world,
consume meat, dairy, and eggs practically every day. Because using animal products is a constant,
most people are not prompted to ask the question, "why?" The behaviors of eating a burger, using
makeup that was tested on animals, and buying products made from leather and fur, are deeply
ingrained into cultures in varying geographical locations, including the United States. Humans are
creatures of habit, and often don't sway from the "normal" way of life, because is known and
comfortable. Staying within comfort zones, inhibits people from learning and growing.
Unfortunately, individuals' health, the environment, and innocent animals all suffer injurious
consequences when a person makes the decision to buy the flesh, fur, skin, and by–products of
animals. Our one and only Earth is impacted significantly by our seemingly arbitrary daily choices.
Animal agriculture is the main contributor to global warming. Water is not an unlimited source, and
coincidentally is necessary for all living beings to survive. Animals in the agriculture industry
require a substantial amount of water to live and produce meat and other superfluous animal
products. Ironically, humans have constructed a sense of normalcy around the idea of using water, a
scarcely expendable source, in an exponentially wasteful manner. Humans are unconsciously
sabotaging every living being, through the destruction of earth. Often

Is Animal Cruelty Free

  • 1. Cosmetics Research Proposal Proposal Do we really know what is cruelty free in the fashion and beauty industry? This dissertation is going to look mainly at animal testing in the fashion and beauty industry and whether customers know what they are purchasing is really cruelty free. It is also going to give an insight of what cruelty is and whether or not there can be alternatives. Although this topic is not directly linked to fashion, cosmetics are a big part of fashion shows and are used widely by fashion designers and models. This a very important and controversial topic as even though people are aware of animal testing and feel negative towards it they are not doing enough or don't know how to help stop it for good. All evidence including peer–reviewed journal articles and books will be sourced from the library and the online library catalogue. Information sourced from British Union for the Abolition of Vivisection (BUAV) articles. Chapter 1 What is Cruelty and why should it be spoke about? This Chapter will be uncovering what animal cruelty is and what affect it is having on the animal world. Animal testing is a horrific and disturbing event were an animal is forced to undergo tests that will cause them stress, suffering and in some cases lasting harm. In worse cases the animal is killed after the experimentation. Mainly looking at animal testing in the cosmetics industry this chapter will also discuss what happens in the experiments and why animals are tested for these ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Animal Testing And Veterinary Purposes "Scientists told to stop wasting animal lives," this is an article from The Guardian, written by Robin McKie. It addresses the issues about using animals to test products for us to use such as, medicines to try help treat serious illnesses and also for veterinary purposes. Animal testing is carried out by scientists to also test items we use daily such as makeup but this article is not talking about those particular issues. This article is discussing about undergoing new guidelines for those that are carrying out research using animals. The Research Council UK say they are now making scientists show their work will not only produce physiological understanding but will also generate statistically sturdy data. If not they will end up losing their funding. This article made me understand more about the research scientists undergo using animals to conduct their research. UK scientists have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some statistics that overwhelmed me was that in Great Britain, 2013, 4.12 million scientific procedures were done on animals, they were mostly rats and mice. About half of them involved animals being gentically modified when breeding. The other half involved experiments on normal animals, 58% of those were carried out for regular research, 26% for human medicine and only a frightening 8% for veterinary purposes. I personally think that scientists just keep using animals because their project isn't flawless and because they don't care about the animals and use as much as they like and I thinlk that is cruel because they are wasting animals lives. • 5. Using Animals Symbolically by Using Poetic Devices Essay Using Animals Symbolically by Using Poetic Devices I will be discussing the ways in which the poets use animals symbolically by using poetic devices. The three poems that I have chosen are "The Tyger" by William Blake, "The Eagle" by Alfred, Lord Tennyson. Lastly, Pied Beauty by Gerard Manley Hopkins. Alfred Lord Tennyson has used an image of an eagle to give the reader an image of a man standing on a cliff top waiting for his world to fall around him. He is in a desolate area; there is no society near him "ringed with the azure world. He stands". He watches the sea pass lower than him his world collapses beneath him n he falls. "And like a thunderbolt he falls" The sun has symbolized God. And his closeness to the eagle. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, the poem is trying to tell us that the eagle is standing "close to the sun in lonely lands" and that the enormous sea is beneath him. These are the ways that the poet has used the eagle symbolically and to illustrate his strength and power standing high in the sky. "Tyger! Tyger! Burning bright" This is an example from "The Tyger" Metaphors of fire and blazing are emphasize by duplication of the "B" sound. The "B" sound makes it stronger and powerful to use. My second choice is "Pied Beauty". Gerard Manley Hopkins who was born in 1844 wrote this poem. The poem is tells us about all the different creatures that God has shaped. Explaining how for many belongings in nature there is a contradictory. He is also telling the reader that we should be thankful towards it and the entire God gifted. In the poem, there are uses of some oxymoron's by using them it shows the different extremes that exist within nature. This is similar to the Tyger. In addition, that shows the readers that to keep the balance on the planet God has created an opposite. "Adazzle, dim". "With swift, slow; sweet, sour"

  • 8. Animal Testing Argumentative Essay Look at the tag of your shirt, where does it say its from? Now, does it say how many people it took to make it or how much time it took? Apply that same logic to when you buy shampoo. Does it say how many animals died when they tested the product? No, it does not. Companies and factories do this for a reason, they want us to be unaware of the facts. Within the next few moments I hope to enlighten you with information you may not know about animal testing. Animal testing can be traced all the way back to the 4th century BCE. Charles Darwin documented evidence that Aristotle began using live animals for experiments. But testing products on animals began in 1922 when testing insulin on dogs. This began after a woman lost her eyesight due to chemicals in a mascara she used. This incident forced the federal government to create the federal food, drug, and cosmetic act. This act that was passed in 1938 and made it mandatory for companies to test on animals before ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Two of the most common methods used are the draize test and the LD50 test. In the draize test a drop of the substance is placed into the animal's eye and the reactions are observed. LD50 means lethal dose. The LD50 test is when researchers feed or apply a particular substance dermally to the animals until half of the animals being tested die. But, just because a certain thing does not affect animals does not mean it will not affect humans. For example, theobromine in chocolate cake is toxic to dogs, and aspirin causes a reaction in cats. Another example is the thalidomide tragedy. The thalidomide tragedy was caused by a sleeping pill, pharmacists thought the medication would be safe for pregnant women as well. However, it caused many newborns worldwide to be born with deformed limbs. Then there is LC which means "lethal concentration." There are places such as Israel, India and the European Union which have banned cosmetics testing on animals. On the other hand, there are countries like the United States and China that still allow makeup testing on animals. Many organizations and groups are trying to find alternatives to help end cosmetics testing on animals. There have been about 50 non–animal tests that have already been authorized. The section about laboratories is where P.E.T.A. fights for animals whole are being tested on for cosmetics. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals has had many extraordinary accomplishments. • 12. Should Animal Testing Be Used In Biomedical Research Did you know that the shampoo that you use was probably forced down the throat of a rabbit, cat, or evan a dog. Each year millions of animals are tested for how safe and effective products are. They are being forced–fed harmful chemicals that can have severe damages to the animal. Animals testing should be banned from being tested because it is very cruel and harmful, and also there are also alternate testing methods to use. Around 17 to 22 million animals are being tested for harmful products a year. They are having to go through physical pain by being cut up, poisoned, burned, irradiated, gassed, shocked, dismembered or genetically designed to suffer. Animals are being forced to have to go through so much pain trying out the products you use today and then having to be trapped in cages for the rest of their lives just because they might of not had a home. They are being abused for the scientists experiments. In 2017 studies found that most of the data they gathered was false, and wasting the animals lives. • 14. Animal Surgery Research Paper The problem is that they are doing surgery on live animals and potentially hurting and changing the way these animals are. I think the problem is unethical because the animals can become endangered. It's more risky than doing surgery on humans. Animal's body cannot handle the pain and pressure that it puts on their body. You have to know what you are doing before doing surgery on living things. If we touch or do the wrong thing in their body, they can easily lose blood and die. Animals are brought uncared for. Veterinarian schools for pets say 30–50% of endangered animals because of schools doing surgery on mostly live animals. Veterinarian learning school also said 10% of animals during surgery. Vet schools discovered that 20% of animals (of all kinds) being killed because of this cruel mess. • 16. Animal Testing Research Paper Did you know that 19,500,000 animals are killed each year for animal experimentation? Animal testing is one of the highest leading causes of animal death. Many people don't think about how their makeup product or lotion doesn't cause skin reactions. The products are first used in a number of tests on a number of animals to make it safe for human use. These tests led to harming a handful of helpless animals just for the benefit of one product for humans. Animals are put under microscopes to try and figure out diseases that are contracted in humans. Animals are being killed in research laboratories every day for no reason and no benefit. First people need to understand that using animals for testing isn't a cheap way to go. When testing the protection of products, animal experimentation can become a very expensive process. The United States spends roughly $12 billion to $14.5 billion on just animal experimentation in 2013 (University Wire). With such a large amount of money used just in one area of research, the results should be way more accurate than they are. The United States is just losing all of its money in animal testing because there is no end benefit in most cases. If experimentations on animals were gone, there are more cost friendly testing methods. "In vitro testing is up to twelve times more cost efficient in comparison to animal testing and does not involve an invasive procedure that infringes on a sentient beings life" (University Wire). Vitro testing was a recently discovered form of testing that has seen great results in such a small amount of time. Animal testing is an old procedure that now has a new safer and cost–effective alternative. People think that if there wasn't animal experimentation that humans would have to be the next test subjects. That might of been the case back in the day, but now there are other ways in the always expanding technology world. However, sacrificing animals is necessary to survive human's life. Moreover, using animals as a laboratory table is become common because this can improve our health. Therefore, argument about animal experimentation often leads to vigorous debate. Animal Experimentation Is Unnecessary by Sarah A. Millar pointed out that animal experimentation wastes money and brutalizes. Animal Experimentation Is Unethical by Robert Garner asserted that the social status of animals is on a par with that of mortals. Animal Experimentation Is Necessary by Carl Cohen claimed that vaccines about diseases, such as polio, have not practicalized unless animals were used as a trial of side effect. Testing has brought many advancements in the medical field, including lifesaving procedures and treatments for diseases. Animal experiments date back long ago, the first use of animals in experiments date back to when ancient Greek physicians first used animals as models for anatomy and physiology. Most people who own pets know that giving pets vaccines and booster shot will help them and prevent them from deadly disease that often prove fatal such as, rabies. • 36. Pros And Cons Of Animal Testing There are many reasons as to why animal testing is an unethical and outdated practice, yet it is still being carried out in this day and age. Thanks to advances in scientific research, animal testing is no longer a necessary evil, so its use is more of an inconvenience than an advantage. And although there are many reasons as to why animal testing should be discontinued, costs, alternative testing, and its psychological effects on animals are the strongest arguments as to why it should be banned. Animal testing is a very pricey business on which millions of dollars are wasted each year –– money that could be lent to more ethical and reasonable fields of research. Many of these tests take up to four or five years, and during that time a higher and higher price is being accumulated. In the United States, tests studying sister chromatid exchange can cost up to $22,000 when using an animal, but the in vitro alternative of this test only costs $8,000, saving about $14,000 (Humane Society International, 4). Another form of animal testing – androgen hormone interactions – can cost up to $37,000, but in vitro costs only $7,000, saving $30,000 per test (4). What if you could see the animals you can see at the zoo in everyday life? Now it may sound absurd but imagine looking out your window and seeing someone walking a giraffe! In many of the articles that I've read people have made very valid arguments about how if not taken care of correctly exotic animals can be very dangerous animals. My thoughts about this is that only certain people should be able to keep these animals as pets. Sort of like a type of license to care for these animals, like a carrier's license for a firearm, only the license for the exotic animals would be to prove that the people owning the animals meet the requirements and proper education for caring for these animals. Basically how you would obtain the license is taking tests to be sure you know how to take care of these exotic animals. Like a permit for driving or license you would take an education course about the care and needs of the animals you house and care for. From domesticated species' to wildlife, it seems as though human interaction has taken a dramatic toll on the way animals' function in the 21st century. Particularly, an account that focuses on this dramatic toll is that of Charles Siebert's, an essayist whose observations bring a fascinating perspective to the correlation between wildlife habitat disruption and uninhibited human nature. Siebert's essay for The New York Times Magazine, entitled, "An Elephant Crackup?" has raised many eyebrows over the past few years with regard to the destruction of a species that might suffer from something more than meets the eye. The author of this essay is aware of his audience, so respectively, the tone of his essay diverges into a new plane, a plane that is dreary and drab, yet in the same way, remains thought provoking and systematically contingent. No law requires that cosmetics and household products be tested on animals however, the FDA does urge companies to conduct whatever tests are necessary to establish that their products are safe and the Consumer Safety Product Commission that regulates household products does not require animal testing yet many companies do it anyway. I have saved what I feel is the most cruel aspect of animals testing is that done on primates. Animal Testing Research Paper "Animal experimentation is the term used to explain the use of animals in education, training and research" ("Animal Experimentation" ) in order to enhance medical and cosmetological experimentation for humans, and involves keeping animals locked up in a laboratory. The sole purpose of animal experimentation and the use of animals in research dates back to when humans started looking for ways to cure and prevent deadly diseases. Today, "the majority of animal experiments do not contribute to improving human health, and the value of the role that animal experimentation plays in most medical advances is questionable" (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. par. 1). Would you still buy its projects if you were to reach for puppies, bunnies or other animals off the shelves? Cruelty free products and advertisements have been popping up all over society, showing images of what cosmetic companies do to the animals when being tested or even the after effects of what the animals look like. The advertisement that will be analyzed is from the society for the protection of animals. The image shows a beautiful woman, face full of makeup, holding a small brown and black puppy as she is pushing down on the puppy's head, out of the puppy's mouth is liquid in a spray formation. There's a message on the right hand side that says "Help us fight the effects of cosmetic testing". This advertisement uses the two rhetorical appeals, ethos and pathos when delivering its message. The image was created to spark conversation and movement from its audience who are cosmetic companies and people buying their products. With the cosmetic companies as the audience it may decrease their sales and prompt them to take an alternate route to cosmetic testing. Despite this alarming statistic, scientists still use animals in these experiments. Scientist give the animals no choice in whether they or going to be used in an experiment. Animal testing is when scientist use products, vaccinations or other things they develop for humans and use on animals. Scientist use all types of animals, but the most common are rats, mice, birds, reptiles and amphibians (ASPCA). In the passage "When Animals Communicate They Are Not Using Language" by Mia Lewis, she states that "...can be trained to recognize and respond to many words and signals...does any of this constitute the ability to use language?...other scientists say no. • 60. I Run Away : A Short Story : Running Away I ran away when I was ten years old. It was a small argument with my parents that provoked it. The situation was contentious and furor. I wanted to have a sleepover with five girls from school, they said that we couldn't fit five other girls in our apartment. I lashed out at them, throwing a full– fledged tantrum, and then I left. Marched out of the door, ignoring their calls for me to come back. My plan was to spend the night at my grandparents house and go back in the morning. It was a short walk, only four blocks to my grandparents, but I didn't make it. On the second block the light was about to turn red. I convinced myself I could make it and ran out into the middle of the street, only to get struck by a car. Funny, I don't even remember dying. I don't remember what it felt like, or if I saw God waiting for me. As soon as the car hit me, my eyes closed, only to be snapped open a few seconds later. But I was no longer in the street, I was in my favorite park. I looked down to see my wrinkled t–shirt and jeans had been replaced with a long, flowy white dress. I felt odd, almost hollow. I broke out into a sprint, and ran in the direction of my house, but when I reached the front gate of the park, I was thrown backwards by an invisible force. I hit the ground hard, and let out a painful groan. I slowly got up, ignoring the pain in my side. I started to run out of the park when I was thrown backwards again. I couldn't leave. • 64. Should We Still Be Using Animals As Our Test Subjects? Should we still be using animals as our test subjects in 2014? Some people say animal testing is good because it helps us find cures to serious illnesses, but in fact the chances of a cure which works on humans has a very slim success to failure ratio. The best DNA match for humans are humans themselves. I strongly believe that we should not be testing on animals and should be using alternative testing methods such as in vitro (test tube) or in silico (computer modelling). One of the main reasons for my the strength conviction is the fact that the animals do not have a choice and are being forced to be tested, which can lead to them getting seriously ill or dying as a result of the testing. Each year in the USA alone, an estimated number of 70 million animals are taken away from their natural habitat and are blinded, scalded, force fed chemicals and hurt and killed in the name of science by private institutions, household product ,cosmetics companies and scientific centres. This is not right in my opinion and I do not particularly see how it can be right in any morally correct human being's opinion. So many animals experience pain or suffering and they can not do anything about it. They are powerless in these situations and this is not fair, it's not right. • 68. Argumentative Essay On Animal Testing As society grows with age, it strives to advance in all areas of life. With the turn of the century, a major advancement in all aspects of science, including medicine, is to use laboratory animals to test potentially dangerous substances and research if the substances would be compatible with humans. Many people have issues with animal testing as they believe it is inhumane to use animals to put them in potentially dangerous situations. However, much progress has been made using animal research. The information gained from animal research has paved the road to everything from hair restoration to cancer treatments. Animal research has progressed humanity into new levels it could only dream of and should remain an essential practice. Modern regulations have strict guidelines on what actions may be performed on a living specimen. Before tests on any animals begins, a detailed action plan must be approved by a board of scientists to determine whether any harm will come from the procedure. Once approved, the experiment can proceed into its next stages. Commonly overlooked, if an experiment does not meet these rigid rules, the whole experiment is terminated. INTRODUCTION & LITERATURE REVIEW: Cancer is a growing health problem around the world. According to a report by the World Health Organization (WHO), there are more than 10 million cases of cancer per year worldwide and the disease causes over six million deaths a year (Jemal et al., 2009). By 2020, it is projected that there will be approximately 15 million new cancer cases and 10 million cancer deaths per year (Petersen, 2008). Oral cancer is one of the most frequently occurring cancers worldwide. It is the world's 11th most common human neoplasm and account for 3% of all newly diagnosed cancer cases with estimated 400,000 new cases annually (Parkin et al., 2005). Oral cancer mortality has risen and is among the largest recorded for any common neoplasm (Vecchia, 2004).
