Reflection Of Political Science
Political science is a broad topic that covers the history, political and geographical aspect of the world. The course started with a revision on the
basics of the constitution, types of power and the political scene that happens around us. My first year at the University, one of the compulsory
subject that is required for arts taking students is Political Science 1101. After several years of taking social or political course, taking this course
opened my knowledge towards politics and the political scene in Canada. It also taught me about how different ways of information taking could lead
to one learning differently from others. For example this class gave us the opportunity to use our laptops as a source of note taking, this helped me
learn in which whenever a new vocabulary comes up during the class discussions i could search it up. Through "The Road to Patriation" and Kim
Campbell "Through the Looking Glass" i would further emphasize my ideas on what i have learnt throughout the course semester.
The concepts provided in the documentary "The Road To Patriation" was about the disagreement between the federal and provincial government of
Canada on what to do with their constitution and how they would agree on a formula to bring back the Canadian Constitution from England. After the
failure of five prime ministers and several conferences Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau took up the challenge of bringing back the constitution in early
1970 alongside with his Justice Minister

Why I Want To Work In Political Science
My major is Government (Political Science) and of course I am going to get a job that ties into my Political Science degree. Since Political
Sciences is basically the study of politics, I want to work in place where politics is the main focus. So that's why I choose to work for CNN. And
CNN is a company that employs people who have great knowledge and understanding of politics. Cable News Network is basic cable and satellite
television news channel owned by turner broadcasting system. CNN was founded in the year 1980 by American media proprietor Ted Turner as a
twenty–four cable news channel.

The site is updated continuously throughout the day. I also want to work for CNN because they are a company that knows how to experiment and
try other things to help the company grow to become better. CNN has launched two specialty news channels for the American market which would
later close amid competitive pressure: the sports news channel CNNSI shut down in 2002, while business news channel CNNfn shut down after nine
years on the air in December 2004. CNN also once had a partnership with Sports Illustrated through the sports website CNNSI.com, but sold the
domain name in May 2015. CNNfn's former website now redirects to money.cnn.com, a product of CNN's strategic partnership with Money
magazine. Money and Sports Illustrated were both Time Warner properties until 2014, when the company's magazine division was spun off into the
separate Time Inc. Also back in 2012 , CNN launched "CNN Films" which is a motion picture division of CNN. CNN films mainly produced original
feature–length documentaries that will "examine an array of political, social, and economic subject matters.
And my final reason of why I want to work at cnn is biggest and arguably the most most popular news network ever. According to adweekly, driven by
live coverage of the year's US presidential election, 2016 was CNN's most–watched year in its history.

Political Science : Islamic Modernism
Political science question 2
By the nineteenth and early–twentieth centuries, a large part of the Muslim world had begun to lose much of its cultural and political sovereignty to
Christian occupiers from Europe. This was the result of European trade missions during earlier centuries that had propagated Western technology and
modernization. There was a large shift of power due to the declining Ottoman Empire, which led to an essential subordination of Muslims because of
Western technology and modernization. This subjugation by Christian empires led Muslims of the Middle East to question their own beliefs as well as
their aspirations, making many wonder whether the success of Western occupation was due to the inferiority of their own Islamic... Show more content

Afghani argued that "Islam was in harmony with the principles discovered by scientific reason, and was indeed the religion demanded by reason."5
Thus, he blamed their subjugation not on Islamic inferiority, but on the society's "intellectual backwardness" caused by the hundreds of years of
neglect and suppression of the Islamic umma, or community. Afghani blamed the influence of Sufism, which had emphasized passivity, fatalism, and
otherworldliness. He also faulted the ulama, or learned elite, for discouraging Muslims from obtaining scientific knowledge because they themselves
lacked the expertise to respond to such modernity. Afghani traveled throughout the Muslim world and outside of it, calling for internal reform and
strengthening of the Muslim umma.6 To Abduh and Afghani, the ultimate way of combating Western occupation was to regenerate the "stagnant"
Muslim world.7 Essentially, these Muslim reformists tried to respond to Western imperialism rather than react to or against it.
Abduh and Afghani argued that the best way to re–strengthen the Muslim world was through the study of their religion in order to bring out its true
meaning; they should model their lives on the religious teachings.8 Afghani

The Philosophy Of Political Science
Ohlone College The philosopher, Thomas Hobbes, started out with the philosophy of political science while on his trips and visits neighboring
countries outside of England to listen to other scientists discuss and learn about different forms of government. While studying, Thomas Hobbes
wondered about why people allow themselves to become ruled by the government and would be the ideal form of government best for England. He
answered that questioned by stating that since people were naturally wicked and shouldn't become trusted to govern themselves because they were
selfish creatures and would do anything to better their position and social status, it would be best to have an absolute monarchy, which would stop the
people when left alone to go back to their own evil impulse to be led into the right direction and leadership to make sure the country doesn't go into
turmoil. To support this viewpoint, Thomas Hobbes asked the question," If men are naturally in a state of war, why are they carrying arms and need
keys to lock their doors." In other words, even when the country is at peace, people are still using things which can get them a better advantage over
others and keeping their own interests a secret from others arms to protect their interests and a lock to lock away their secrets so no one can get to it.
According to Thomas Hobbes, the reason that this is the case is because people are selfish and evil and that they must protect their interests

Political Science Is An Article Written By Hans Noel
Political science is known to be one of the most ignored sciences there are. Over the years, there has not been a demand for everyone to pay attention
to politics because people always have their own opinion anyways. Ten Things Political Scientists Know that You Don't was an article written by Hans
Noel. His main objective to writing this was to inform readers of the reasons why politics is something that is important to understand. Many journalists
and bloggers became more aware of politics and want to know more about what political scientists actually know. This article also wants to inform
many people that political science is something that you can study over a period of time, which is the real reason to pay attention to elections. Hans
Noel came up with 10 different things that political scientists know but American citizens do not.
Main Topic As I was reading Ten Things Political Scientists Know that You Don't, there was a particular finding of Noels that is relevant to today's
election. I think the first topic, which was called "It's The Fundamentals, Stupid," was the most interesting because it points out the obvious things that
happen when politicians and their team try to come up with different campaigns, slogans and other stuff that will catch citizens off guard. I think that
this is most important part in a campaign because this is where citizens get a first look of who you are, and decide if they will like you or not. Since
Americans do not dig deep into

With regard to the relationship between government spending and private consumption, two opponent points of view can be found. The first one states
that there is a relation of substitution between government spending and private consumption. However, the other one concludes that government
spending and private consumption are complements. Therefore, it can be easily seen that it is a controversial issue for both economists and policy
makers. According to the literature, several studies have been done to test the relationship between government spending and private consumption in
the context of industrialized countries, OECD countries, and some Asian countries. Of course, Egypt was not one of these studied cases. Moreover,
when a study was done to investigate this point of research in the context of a group of African countries (Anoruo 2005) that performed a panel data
analysis for 24 countries; Unfortunately, Egypt was not included in this panel data analysis. As a result, there is a gap in the literature of testing the
relationship between government spending and private consumption for Egypt. Consequently, this study aims to provide an answer to this important
question; does government spending substitute or complement private consumption in Egypt? Literature Review: Surveying the literature of testing

Political Science 101: My Review Of American Government...
Throughout my academic career, I have had the opportunity to take a number of American government classes that ranged from studying original
concepts, during the foundation of our country, to analyzing more recent events and policies that have taken place during my life. When I started
Political Science 101, I was under the impression that I would be doing more review of American government. As the semester continued, I gained a
variety of new ideas and perspectives that were unlike anything I had learned in previous courses. There is no question that debates and discussions
have been an integral portion of American government courses. One aspect that varied in Political Science 101 was the introduction of topics, that were
important in current discussions and debates about government and politics, which were necessary to building a well–rounded understanding of the
subject. Lessons and discussions regarding political socialization (Week 6), thedebate over the U.S. being an Oligarchy(Week 2), and the media as the
fourth estate (Week 6) were topics that had never been introduced to me (even though were essential to understanding issues regarding government and
politics). Unlike other courses that study more social and popular topics in government, this course familiarizes students with subjects that examine the
atmosphere of the government and causes the student to comprehend other matters that contribute to its current state. Another aspect of the class that

The Political Science Of Voters And Their Knowledge
There is still a debate within the political science community about voters and their knowledge. Manand argues that voters are not dumb but rather,
they are just not smart when it comes to politics. Ambramowitz believes that low voter turnout is okay because the people who are voting are the
ones who actually understand and know politics. Key believes that independent voters not knowing or understanding politics is okay because voters
as a whole group will inevitable pick the correct candidate. Caplan disagrees. "The median voter wants protection. Protection makes the median
voter worse off. But the median voter does not want to be worse off" (Caplan 142). Caplan believes that voters do not simply not know or
understand things but rather they intentionally pick the wrong or incorrect answer. Caplan believes this is because in the political arena, unlike the
rest of American society, there is no real repercussions for choosing wrong. A possible example of this is Americans choosing to believe that a
terrorist attack is more fearful, and probable, than a mass shooting. According to a survey taken by Gallup conducted between December 11th and
12th of this past year, 47% of Americans were worried about an attack orchestrated by the Islamic State, compared to only 38% of Americans who
were worried about a mass shooting. The 9% difference between these two possible events contrasts with the number of mass shootings in the United
States in 2015 and the number of terrorist

Traditional Approaches To Political Science
Traditional Approaches to political science
The traditional approaches to political science were widely prevalent till the outbreak of second World War. These approaches were mainly related to
the traditional view of politics which emphasized the study of the state and government. Therefore, traditional approaches are primarily concerned with
the study of organization and activities of the state.
Characteristics of traditional approaches:
They are largely normative.
Emphasize on the study of political structure.
Made little attempt to relate theory and research.
These approaches believe that studies in political science can never be scientific.

Being able to express ourselves opens up the individuality of our classmates which allows for more personal and meaningful conversations during the

The Pros And Cons Of Political Science
Political Science is a study that is in the process of progression. According to Douglas A. Van Belle, "faraway galaxies" have politics also. Pondering
where people exist, interactions exist. Where people and interactions exist so do cultures and societies whose idiologies and customs very dramatically.
I have always been attracted to politics and the more time I spend studing politics the more I realize why. "Political scientist do not agree on a
definition" and for "more than 2,000 years" there has been different interpretations of what the science portion is inclusive of. In class we discussed this
and we were presented with the interpretation of political science as "Who gets What, When, How" .
At Georgia Southern University the Political Science Department seperates the dicipline into four fields, Political Theory, American Politics,
Comparitive Politics and International Politics. Comparing concepts from the four different fields can give us a more philosophical approach to the
dicipline. With a higher degree of understanding, we can accomplish more with the knowledge we share.
Political Theory
From my understanding, political theory tends to be a sub–discipline that is much less discussed than the others. "Political theory reflects or engages
the philosophical foundations of the study of politics". Pondering about this subdiscipline, it is very possible to come to the premature assumption that
political theory is the blood flow of political studies. In some

The Study of Political Science Essay
Political science includes a wide range of topics that attempts to describe and explain the political process, politics, and the relationship among
governments. As American citizens we should all be informed and be educated about all these above topics. We as citizens cannot be unconscious of
our government as the government can make or break our lives. The general areas of study in political science include American government and
politics, political theory, public administration, public law, comparative politics and international relations.
Political science is the study of people's behavior as it relates to control the public organizations. The concept is normally divided into six subcategories:

The next category is the nation public law– which involves the judicial process, civil rights, liberties and the importance of such terms as equal
opportunity and due process in the United States. The following category is Comparative government which raises the same questions of politics,
administration and law about other countries. Moreover, it also moves towards conclusion based on comparison between them. Finally, International
politics deals with relations between the states and other international actors, such as multinational corporations, the United Nations and with the
fundamental realities of power based on resources, wealth, military care and national security. All these may directly and indirectly affect our lives as
citizens.
A major in political science prepares students for law school, government employment on the local, state and national levels, foreign service, teaching,
business, journalism, or leadership in civic and political activities. For pre–law students, the department provides a series of law–related courses. There
is a pre–law adviser and an active Pre–law Society that enable students to make close and direct contact with the work of attorneys and judges.
Moreover political science is important since it makes citizens familiar with their legal system. If people don't understand the law of the land, people

The Political Of Political Science Essay
Introduction:
According to Aristotle"Man is by nature a political animal and he only by nature and by mere accident is without state is either above humanity or
below it"
Political science is ultimately related with the word politics which is derived from the Greek word "Polis".The origin of political thought in the west
and therefore goes back to the Greece.Political science is the study of the state and the government. And political philosophy is considersd to be a sub
discipline of political science. However it is a political theory,a discipline which has a closer methodology to the theoretical fields in the social
sciences. So,political philosophy is the study of topics such as politics, liberty, justice, rights, property, law and the enforcement of a legal code by

In short political philosophy is the activity with all the philosophers such as Plato,Aristotle,Machiavelli,KarlMarx,JohnHobbes,Locke,Rousseau
whereby the conceptual apparatus behind such concepts as afore mentioned are analysed in their history, intent and evaluation.Political philosophy has

Politics And Progress : The Emergence Of American...
Politics and Progress: The Emergence of American Political Science by Dennis Mahoney is an account of the origins of contemporary political science
in the Progressive Movement. In the book, Mahoney, attempts to show how American political science came to be due to the influence of three
different factors. The first factor is German Historicism and its allgemeine Staatslehre, or general State theory. The second factor is philosophical
pragmatism and the final factor is political Progressivism. Mahoney also writes about how the new American political science has turned away from
political philosophy and the laws of nature described by the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. In the conclusion of the book, Mahoney
points out a flaw of the modern political science by stating, " Nothing in political science as it was taught and practiced in America provided or
recognized a standard against which these acts (totalitarianism) of national self–determination and these expressions of the state will in their respective
societies could be tried and found wanting." In short, Mahoney is saying that the core concepts that helped shape American political science, can not
prove that dictatorship governments are not healthy governments. The first factor that helped is German Historicism. Mahoney lays the foundation of
German political science and states that not only did it influence American political ideas but was a model and even a starting point. German science of

Political Science: Idea of Global Citizenship
Political Science (APA Citation) Political Science (Order #A2088789) Part 1: The United States currently is discussing the issue of immigration and
the fact that there is a border between America and Mexico is one of the problems involved with the idea of global citizenship. But the concept of
global citizenship not only involves the freedom to travel across artificially created borders, but also includes the idea of being part of a world
community and contributing toward that community. In the 21st century, being a global citizen must entail being part of a global network, as well as
being aware of the interconnected way that the world operates while promoting local policies that reflect an outlook that places the world at the center.
Elements of this outlook include the promotion of human rights, democratic forms of government, economic policies that benefit the all the people of
the world, religious toleration, protection of the world's environment, and the elimination of war. The idea of global citizenship is very different from
what the world currently experiences. With a number of nation–states, all competing for resources, as well as political, economic, and military
domination, individuals find themselves pressured to be loyal to a particular nation and its interests; which many times are in conflict with what is best
for the entire planet. As individual nations compete, some become incredibly wealthy and prosperous, while other become impoverished. Nationalism

The Cultural Conflicts Existing Within The Discipline Of...
Question # 1: Leaving aside assignment 6 (Gibson/Key) what reading(s) did you find most compelling this week, and why?
This week, singling out one compelling piece was hard, as I now see how all the pieces are linked. For example, I liked how Perestroika informs us of
the trends existing within the discipline of political science, particularly the overrated focus on methods and techniques in political inquiry. I also
liked how Perestroika highlights the cultural conflicts existing within the discipline, which is demonstrated by the behavior of APSR and various
administrations and departments of the discipline. Perestroika dictates that the discipline needs to resolve its existing epistemological differences
through tolerance and increase the understanding of these differences. Gregory Bateson's proposal for innovative thinking shows us new ways of
dealing with knowledge and generating ideas. He speaks of what he calls the "ecology of mind" that is the "aggregates of ideas." Bateson stipulates
that the world we see is the world we perceive "not necessarily because it exists, but because we edit the reality we see." This idea speaks to the
scientific mode of inquiry, as Perestroika puts it: "causality" vs. "meaning," "objective" vs. "subjective," and "certainty" vs. "skepticism." Bates
suggests that the scientific research must be interactive and inclusive of the various methods of inquiry. While Bent Flyvbjerg starts with the question
of whether "theory is possible in

Advantages Of Traditional Approach To Political Science
The traditional approach to Political Science was widely prevalent till the outbreak of the Second World War. These approaches were mainly related to
the traditional view of politics which emphasized the study of the state and government. Therefore, traditional approaches are primarily concerned with
the study of the organization and activities of the state and principles and the ideas which underlie political organizations and activities. These
approaches were normative and idealistic. The political thinkers advocating these approaches, therefore, raised questions like 'what should be an ideal
state?' According to them the study of Political Science should be confined to the formal structures of the government, laws, rules and regulations.
The traditional or the empirical approach studies in depth the political behavior from historical, philosophical, legal and institutional point of view.

Explain Why Minnesota And Why Political Science
Why Minnesota and why Political Science? The world is constantly changing and we try to make sense of what is occurring. History and
Government has always interested me, the past to me, can change the future, which is why I believe it's so important to study how the United States
government functions in our society. Politics impact our life everyday and we may not even realize it, from driving on a road that has a speed limit
or getting your mail, all involve government and how it affects every one of us. From what I can remember, History has always been my favorite
thing to learn about in school, my Senior Year I am taking two individual classes just about government in theUnited States. In the fourth grade, I had a

Political Science And Its Influence On The Country 's...
Introduction
Political Science teaches us about how political power is dispersed, how different governments operate and interact, how rules are made and enforced.
We will come to know both the "who" of politics, such as international organizations, politicians, and the public, and the "how", such as political
institutions, elections, and public administration. Politics have its essence in every aspect of our lives, including the availability of education, jobs,
housing and healthcare. Whatever government does and whoever supports the government everything have its influence on the country 's current
situation whether to be in war or in peace. Political science is the study of a wide range of political knowledge, events, actions, and institutions. We
all take part in politics, though most of the time we do so unknowingly. Politics is not only about simply voting in an election or working in
government. When we read or listen to news, make donations to aid groups, or talk with friends and family about social issues and values are some of
the examples of political activity in our everyday lives.
Political Science is concerned with the many institutions, organizations and norms that determine how people apperceive society, and in turn, how they
interact within it. In Political Science, multiple issue can come for discussion like Power or it can be democracy or government as well, in order to
aware us about our surroundings, and our place in it. When we acquire enough knowledge

Political And Political Theories Of Political Science
Introduction
Politics play a major role in every country and those who hold office have had some prior experience in politics before achieving the seat they now
hold. Many of these politicians have backgrounds in Political Science that gave them the knowledge to pursue politics. Political Scientists study the
origin, development, and operation of political systems. They research ideas that will help them analyze government policies, trends and other political
issues. Political Science is a highly competitive field that requires many skills to achieve a job within the industry. However, once the time is taken to
gain these skills, the benefits of the job are substantial.
Job Description
According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook (OOH), "Political Scientist typically research political subjects such as the U.S political system,
relations between the United States and foreign countries, and political ideologies ("Political Scientist")." These scientists collect data from the public
and turn them into surveys and other forms of assistance for the government. Scientists should be able to predict social and political trends within a
country to take steps that are necessary to continue their work with better precision. Due to this, scientists spend a lot of time researching the subject
they are focusing on. This research plays a vital role in Political Science. Scientists conduct research in four sub–fields on Political Science. These fields

Part A Q1. The top 4 key stakeholders are as follows:
1.Businesses/ Employers in City Z
The main interest of businesses/ employers in city Z is to gain profits for owners/ shareholders. Regarding the issue of wage increase, they will tend to
raise an objection because the policy will create an extra cost to their businesses and go against their interests to have more profit. They have a strong
political influence because they provide jobs in the city and move the local economy. For big business companies, they may use their resources to
influence lawmakers or media to go against the policy.
2.Employee in City Z
For employees/ workers in city Z, they have strong interest to raise their welfare. Therefore, they will prefer to support the policy. Employees have a
strong political influence because usually they form the majority of residents in the city and they are the dominant voters during the general election.
However, there may be a setback of support if minimum wage increase's policy results in massive lay off of employees.
3.Labor Organizations
Labor organizations have the interest to improve the welfare of labors in the city. They may have some power to influence the political climate in the
city but it will depend on the amount of labors under their organization and how good they can organize the labors. They can use formal and informal

Political Science And Its Foundations
Political science is the study concerned chiefly with the description and analysis of political and especially governmental institutions and processes,
according to the Merriam Webster Dictionary. Overall, political science and its foundations as a whole, is the study of the governments, their
characteristics, and all that they stand for, the citizens and their role in our country's political system, and all the processes and documents involved in
running our country. All governments are unique in their own ways, diverging from older civilizations, but America'sgovernment and political systems
are based off the country's necessity for a governing body that will protect the citizens' inalienable rights while assisting them in making decisions for
the greater good, while enforcing and punishing people for wrongdoings outlined by the laws and regulations of our nation. Although there are
alternative governmental systems that would suffice for running our country, America has created a form of limited government, using the system of
checks and balances and multiple governmental branches to regulate the political process, with an ultimate goal of representing the citizens
quintessentially, meeting all their needs to create the authentic American Dream. The governmental system of our nation was fabricated on the
principles of giving the American citizens the rights of living a life with property, individual thinking, freedom, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

Power As A General Political Science
Power in politics is a central concept, yet a contested one for a multitude of reasons. Chief among them is its contested nature and disagreement among
political scientists over the concept itself as well as its operationalization. I refrain from further exploring the literature on power as a general political
science concept and focus on its aspects related to negotiation. From an international relations perspective, realists for example, emphasize on the
materialistic aspect of power; military, economy and other measurable and quantifiable sources of power (Donnelly 24). Hans Morgenthau, a classical
realist, defines power as "men's control over the minds and actions of other men", he further states that a political power is "the mutual relations of
control among the holders of public authority and between the latter and the people at large" (32). This definition, to a degree, resonates with power
in negotiation since it focuses on one's ability to influence the perception and action of others. This notion of power is relevant to negotiation in that
either sides of a negotiation attempt to influence the decision making of the other side(s). Keohane Nye's definition of power is closer to
Morgenthau. He defines power as "the ability of an actor to get others to do something they otherwise would not do" (10). Roger Fisher defines power
in terms of negotiation as "the ability to persuade someone to do something" (182). These definitions do not emphasis on the outcome aspect of

Unit 5 Political Science Assignment: Rule Of Law
Marsha McMillen Unit 5 Political Science Assignment The United States prides itself on the fact that we have the rule of Law. In other countries
such as Japan, the people are expected to obey the government and corporations. If we did not have lawyers, bureaucrats would administer the
law. Some complain that we have too many lawsuits, but very few would accept having to obey only the government and the bureaucrats. There is
five laws that we go by in the U.S. and they are as follows. 1.Criminal Law is largely statutory, and it covers certain kinds of crimes, such as
murder, robbery, rape, fraud and extortion. In criminal cases, the state prosecutes the offender not the victim. There is three kinds of offenses and
they are petty offenses, such as traffic violations, and they are usually punishable by a fine. Misdemeanors where you are charged a larger fine, and
then you have the major offenses. They are felonies, which were mentioned earlier, those cases can be heard and prosecuted by the state or the Federal
government, and they are usually punished by imprisonment. One example is the case of the OJ Simpson case, he was tried in Criminal court but he
was found not guilty of Murder. 2.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Define political culture.
"American political culture puts a special emphasis on hard work, and is rife with stories of successful businessmen and leaders. (USHistory.org, 2016)"
Political culture is the attitudes, convictions, and conclusions which give order and intending to a political process and which give the hidden
presumptions and guidelines that represent conduct in the political framework. It envelops both the political goals and the working standards of a
country. Some say it is the AMERICAN DREAM. The belief that every American has the opportunity to seek after a superior life, a decent house, an

There are similar elements that we can characterize political culture by Liberty, Equality, Democracy, Individualism, The Rule of Law, Nationalism, and
Capitalism.
Research political culture in the United States and share at least 2 items.
Liberty is what American political culture is based off of and the vast majority consider the right be free, as long as another 's rights aren 't mishandled.
Basically, as long as you aren 't harming others you have the right to freedom. Liberty doesn 't involve complete freedom because there are rules and
laws to help protect the rights and safety of others. We have a limited government meaning that our government 's power is restricted by the
constitution. In order to protect our civil rights from the government, we also have the Bill of Rights. Equality is easily put as an opportunity for
equality, not absolute equality. Although, it doesn 't promise equal outcomes. Liberty and Equality work together in our nation by giving everyone as
close as can be to the same options. By balancing the two together we can get many different results. All citizens have the right to make their own
personal choices and to have their own outcomes without having to be like others.
Does political culture affect politics? How? Or why not?
Yes, political culture does make an effect on politics. Political

political science state centered and power centered
Man in nature is a social being. He cannot exist alone and can certainly not be self–sufficient. He is born and dwells in society where he associates with
fellow humans. Man's interaction with others in society eventually manifests his selfishness and quarrelsome nature. The human being is complex.
Therefore as men live and interact in society, there arises the need for rules and accepted form of behavior. The regulation and execution of these rules
are what bring about order in society. The regulators and enforcers of these rules and laws are what constitute what is called government. According to
Heywood (2007) the government is created by individuals and for individuals (population), it exists to serve their needs and interests. This... Show more

In other words it is a study of state affairs. A state is a compulsory political organization with a centralized government that maintains a monopoly of the
legitimate use of force within a certain geographical territory. Other traditional thinkers such as Paul Janet and Jelineck also defined political science is
a study of state affairs only. This means that man, the government and their relationship are studied. This is political science state centered. The
authority and influence over society is held in the state alone as an independent entity. The focus of study is on the state and the state or state affairs
only. State–centered stresses the role of the government on society. Its focus is that the state itself can maintain political life to some extent
independently of the way power is allocated between society classes. It should also be made clear that the government is their or exists in order to
organize society thereby satisfying the needs of man or society or the population.. This is because the societies or man's wants and needs are unlimited.
Therefore a government has to exist to satisfy them. Some of the duties that government performs in order to satisfy the needs of society are:
To provide law and order. It is the duty of the state to make that the society is ruled under law and that order is maintained. Rules and laws are what

The Evolution Of Political Philosophy And Political Science
As centuries have passed, political thought has undergone constant development and together with its development are changes. These changes had a
tremendous effect in the discipline. Political philosophy continued to progress which affected both political theory and political science. It seems that
with the progression of political philosophy, there was a growing need for the the discipline to become more scientific. They wanted it to be based on
facts, to become value–free and to be precise. Political philosophy started veering away from the classics. Despite the continuous need to be scientific,
there were still groups which remained inclined to the classics and believed that the traditions and values are essential in studying the discipline. These
conflicting views concerning the traditionalists and the behavioralists caused the gap between political philosophy and political science and eventually
the two separated. So it seems that as political philosophy progress, political science branched outside the academe and political theory, as it grew
larger became more and more alienated. In order to explain why political science drifted apart from political philosophy, one must go back to the
history of political philosophy. It is important to understand what was the state of political philosophy during the the ... Show more content on

Public Policy is an important part of any political science studies. While when studying government, some issues may be boring or inapplicable the
public policy process isn't. The process brings about interest and controversy in most issues up for debate and this past semester has been no different.
While many people might find the implementation of policy daunting I have gotten the opportunity to put the theories strategies of public policy to the
test whether that be through TV shows (West Wing, Scandal, and Veep), various classroom simulations, or my internship at a Senators Office. These
situations have allowed me to improve my understanding of the policy process and learn more about the current challenges policymakers in the ... Show

The West Wing did an exceptional job of showing what roles are important when running aWhite House. Especially with the new Trump White House
office it was easier to know the people he was surrounding himself with and what they are responsible for. This semester I got the opportunity to
intern at Senator Heitkamp's office in Grand Forks. When I first started in this position there were many names and titles thrown out at me, I wasn't
completely sure want a chief of staff was or what they do same with a Communications Director, I knew they oversaw social media but that is the
extent of it. After reading the book and seeing the roles applied I'm able to understand what goes into making sure a Senator is completely prepared.
Personally, the simulation has benefitted my further knowledge on what goes into making decisions and what ultimately makes it into the State of the
Union. After being a part of the International/ Humanitarian Aid Council, I have learned to consider how the world operates and how the U.S.
decides what states are in dire need of aid. On our council, we dealt with truly tragic situations it was interesting to learn the process of writing a memo
in a semi–official outline and to get a hands–on experience to see what kind of policies the International/ Humanitarian Aid makes decisions on. The
people on my council truly made the simulation much easier to do as we all collaborated and

Political Science: The Ultimate Power of Shaping Scenarios
The ultimate power of shaping scenarios, appointing new leadership and building the state lies within public. The conventional way of achieving it is
to take part in the electoral process. However, after a government is appointed, there still remains a need for highlighting the nations' concern by
bringing forward their opinions using a proper platform. Like many other countries, people in United States have a right to join different organizations
and social groups in order to safeguard their interests, promote social activity and to contribute in societal development through social movement.
These social groups provide an opportunity for the people to raise their voices for good and influence the government decisions. Without it, there will
always remain a risk of having a weak democracy, which can turn into aristocracy anytime.
Interest groups can be of many types. There can be economic interest groups, business groups, labor groups, professional associations, wildlife
protection groups and so forth. All of which, influence the decision making process of the controlling government body present in their regions. In
United States, people oppose the corporatist groups and tend to follow the pluralist approach. Pluralist groups are more competitive; believe in free
market and professionalism. Most of the people working for a group are achievers in their life. In pluralist groups, unlike the corporatists, a bottom up
approach is followed for decision making. These groups are

Science Vs. Political Philosophy
Science vs Political Philosophy, can one know exactly when life begins? Most certainly, Yes! Most "pro
–choice" activist believe that the life/soul
doesn't begin until the fetus exits the womb. We can concur that this is false by stating the fact; earliest human embryo is biologically alive. It fulfills
the four criteria needed to establish biological life: metabolism, growth, reaction to stimuli, and reproduction. (1) Second we can conclude that the law
on abortion is "absolute right to abortion" or "any abortion is justified". (2) We form this from the ruling of Roe vs Wade. Lastly a common
misconception of the "pro–life & pro– choice" is that pro–life wants to take away rights from women. This statement is also untrue. Protesting for the
women to gain more assistance from government funding programs or non–profit organization is the actual end goal. How could one deny the
existents of life when, once the sperm penetrates the egg a new cell is form called "zygote". Which has its own unique genetic composition(DNA), it
is unlike its own mothers therefore making it undeniably alive. This fact also disproves the idea that an abortion is between a woman and her own
body. (3) Next we can physically see a heartbeat with ultra sounds after 22 days after conception. (4) This forms an understanding of two separate
human–beings, one is just dependent on the other for survival. Foremost, they preform fetal surgeries on pregnant women. Removing tumors, or bypass
surgery, etc. (5)

Reflection Of Political Science

  • 1. Reflection Of Political Science Political science is a broad topic that covers the history, political and geographical aspect of the world. The course started with a revision on the basics of the constitution, types of power and the political scene that happens around us. My first year at the University, one of the compulsory subject that is required for arts taking students is Political Science 1101. After several years of taking social or political course, taking this course opened my knowledge towards politics and the political scene in Canada. It also taught me about how different ways of information taking could lead to one learning differently from others. For example this class gave us the opportunity to use our laptops as a source of note taking, this helped me learn in which whenever a new vocabulary comes up during the class discussions i could search it up. Through "The Road to Patriation" and Kim Campbell "Through the Looking Glass" i would further emphasize my ideas on what i have learnt throughout the course semester. The concepts provided in the documentary "The Road To Patriation" was about the disagreement between the federal and provincial government of Canada on what to do with their constitution and how they would agree on a formula to bring back the Canadian Constitution from England. After the failure of five prime ministers and several conferences Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau took up the challenge of bringing back the constitution in early 1970 alongside with his Justice Minister ... CNN has launched two specialty news channels for the American market which would later close amid competitive pressure: the sports news channel CNNSI shut down in 2002, while business news channel CNNfn shut down after nine years on the air in December 2004. CNN also once had a partnership with Sports Illustrated through the sports website CNNSI.com, but sold the domain name in May 2015. CNNfn's former website now redirects to money.cnn.com, a product of CNN's strategic partnership with Money magazine. Money and Sports Illustrated were both Time Warner properties until 2014, when the company's magazine division was spun off into the separate Time Inc. Also back in 2012 , CNN launched "CNN Films" which is a motion picture division of CNN. CNN films mainly produced original feature–length documentaries that will "examine an array of political, social, and economic subject matters. • 3. Political Science : Islamic Modernism Political science question 2 By the nineteenth and early–twentieth centuries, a large part of the Muslim world had begun to lose much of its cultural and political sovereignty to Christian occupiers from Europe. This was the result of European trade missions during earlier centuries that had propagated Western technology and modernization. There was a large shift of power due to the declining Ottoman Empire, which led to an essential subordination of Muslims because of Western technology and modernization. This subjugation by Christian empires led Muslims of the Middle East to question their own beliefs as well as their aspirations, making many wonder whether the success of Western occupation was due to the inferiority of their own Islamic... Afghani argued that "Islam was in harmony with the principles discovered by scientific reason, and was indeed the religion demanded by reason."5 Thus, he blamed their subjugation not on Islamic inferiority, but on the society's "intellectual backwardness" caused by the hundreds of years of neglect and suppression of the Islamic umma, or community. Afghani blamed the influence of Sufism, which had emphasized passivity, fatalism, and otherworldliness. He also faulted the ulama, or learned elite, for discouraging Muslims from obtaining scientific knowledge because they themselves lacked the expertise to respond to such modernity. Afghani traveled throughout the Muslim world and outside of it, calling for internal reform and strengthening of the Muslim umma.6 To Abduh and Afghani, the ultimate way of combating Western occupation was to regenerate the "stagnant" Muslim world.7 Essentially, these Muslim reformists tried to respond to Western imperialism rather than react to or against it. Abduh and Afghani argued that the best way to re–strengthen the Muslim world was through the study of their religion in order to bring out its true meaning; they should model their lives on the religious teachings.8 Afghani ... • 7. The Philosophy Of Political Science Ohlone College The philosopher, Thomas Hobbes, started out with the philosophy of political science while on his trips and visits neighboring countries outside of England to listen to other scientists discuss and learn about different forms of government. While studying, Thomas Hobbes wondered about why people allow themselves to become ruled by the government and would be the ideal form of government best for England. He answered that questioned by stating that since people were naturally wicked and shouldn't become trusted to govern themselves because they were selfish creatures and would do anything to better their position and social status, it would be best to have an absolute monarchy, which would stop the people when left alone to go back to their own evil impulse to be led into the right direction and leadership to make sure the country doesn't go into turmoil. To support this viewpoint, Thomas Hobbes asked the question," If men are naturally in a state of war, why are they carrying arms and need keys to lock their doors." In other words, even when the country is at peace, people are still using things which can get them a better advantage over others and keeping their own interests a secret from others arms to protect their interests and a lock to lock away their secrets so no one can get to it. According to Thomas Hobbes, the reason that this is the case is because people are selfish and evil and that they must protect their interests ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Political Science Is An Article Written By Hans Noel Political science is known to be one of the most ignored sciences there are. Over the years, there has not been a demand for everyone to pay attention to politics because people always have their own opinion anyways. Ten Things Political Scientists Know that You Don't was an article written by Hans Noel. His main objective to writing this was to inform readers of the reasons why politics is something that is important to understand. Many journalists and bloggers became more aware of politics and want to know more about what political scientists actually know. This article also wants to inform many people that political science is something that you can study over a period of time, which is the real reason to pay attention to elections. Hans Noel came up with 10 different things that political scientists know but American citizens do not. Main Topic As I was reading Ten Things Political Scientists Know that You Don't, there was a particular finding of Noels that is relevant to today's election. I think the first topic, which was called "It's The Fundamentals, Stupid," was the most interesting because it points out the obvious things that happen when politicians and their team try to come up with different campaigns, slogans and other stuff that will catch citizens off guard. I think that this is most important part in a campaign because this is where citizens get a first look of who you are, and decide if they will like you or not. With regard to the relationship between government spending and private consumption, two opponent points of view can be found. The first one states that there is a relation of substitution between government spending and private consumption. However, the other one concludes that government spending and private consumption are complements. Therefore, it can be easily seen that it is a controversial issue for both economists and policy makers. According to the literature, several studies have been done to test the relationship between government spending and private consumption in the context of industrialized countries, OECD countries, and some Asian countries. Of course, Egypt was not one of these studied cases. Moreover, when a study was done to investigate this point of research in the context of a group of African countries (Anoruo 2005) that performed a panel data analysis for 24 countries; Unfortunately, Egypt was not included in this panel data analysis. As a result, there is a gap in the literature of testing the relationship between government spending and private consumption for Egypt. Throughout my academic career, I have had the opportunity to take a number of American government classes that ranged from studying original concepts, during the foundation of our country, to analyzing more recent events and policies that have taken place during my life. When I started Political Science 101, I was under the impression that I would be doing more review of American government. As the semester continued, I gained a variety of new ideas and perspectives that were unlike anything I had learned in previous courses. There is no question that debates and discussions have been an integral portion of American government courses. One aspect that varied in Political Science 101 was the introduction of topics, that were important in current discussions and debates about government and politics, which were necessary to building a well–rounded understanding of the subject. Lessons and discussions regarding political socialization (Week 6), thedebate over the U.S. being an Oligarchy(Week 2), and the media as the fourth estate (Week 6) were topics that had never been introduced to me (even though were essential to understanding issues regarding government and politics). Unlike other courses that study more social and popular topics in government, this course familiarizes students with subjects that examine the atmosphere of the government and causes the student to comprehend other matters that contribute to its current state. • 13. The Political Science Of Voters And Their Knowledge There is still a debate within the political science community about voters and their knowledge. Manand argues that voters are not dumb but rather, they are just not smart when it comes to politics. Ambramowitz believes that low voter turnout is okay because the people who are voting are the ones who actually understand and know politics. Key believes that independent voters not knowing or understanding politics is okay because voters as a whole group will inevitable pick the correct candidate. Caplan disagrees. "The median voter wants protection. Protection makes the median voter worse off. But the median voter does not want to be worse off" (Caplan 142). Caplan believes that voters do not simply not know or understand things but rather they intentionally pick the wrong or incorrect answer. Caplan believes this is because in the political arena, unlike the rest of American society, there is no real repercussions for choosing wrong. A possible example of this is Americans choosing to believe that a terrorist attack is more fearful, and probable, than a mass shooting. According to a survey taken by Gallup conducted between December 11th and 12th of this past year, 47% of Americans were worried about an attack orchestrated by the Islamic State, compared to only 38% of Americans who were worried about a mass shooting. The 9% difference between these two possible events contrasts with the number of mass shootings in the United States in 2015 and the number of terrorist ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Pondering where people exist, interactions exist. Where people and interactions exist so do cultures and societies whose idiologies and customs very dramatically. I have always been attracted to politics and the more time I spend studing politics the more I realize why. "Political scientist do not agree on a definition" and for "more than 2,000 years" there has been different interpretations of what the science portion is inclusive of. In class we discussed this and we were presented with the interpretation of political science as "Who gets What, When, How" . At Georgia Southern University the Political Science Department seperates the dicipline into four fields, Political Theory, American Politics, Comparitive Politics and International Politics. Comparing concepts from the four different fields can give us a more philosophical approach to the dicipline. With a higher degree of understanding, we can accomplish more with the knowledge we share. Political Theory From my understanding, political theory tends to be a sub–discipline that is much less discussed than the others. "Political theory reflects or engages the philosophical foundations of the study of politics". Pondering about this subdiscipline, it is very possible to come to the premature assumption that political theory is the blood flow of political studies. In some ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Finally, International politics deals with relations between the states and other international actors, such as multinational corporations, the United Nations and with the fundamental realities of power based on resources, wealth, military care and national security. Politics and Progress: The Emergence of American Political Science by Dennis Mahoney is an account of the origins of contemporary political science in the Progressive Movement. In the book, Mahoney, attempts to show how American political science came to be due to the influence of three different factors. The first factor is German Historicism and its allgemeine Staatslehre, or general State theory. The second factor is philosophical pragmatism and the final factor is political Progressivism. Mahoney also writes about how the new American political science has turned away from political philosophy and the laws of nature described by the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. In the conclusion of the book, Mahoney points out a flaw of the modern political science by stating, " Nothing in political science as it was taught and practiced in America provided or recognized a standard against which these acts (totalitarianism) of national self–determination and these expressions of the state will in their respective societies could be tried and found wanting." In short, Mahoney is saying that the core concepts that helped shape American political science, can not prove that dictatorship governments are not healthy governments. The first factor that helped is German Historicism. Mahoney lays the foundation of German political science and states that not only did it influence American political ideas but was a model and even a starting point. German science of ... Political Science: Idea of Global Citizenship Political Science (APA Citation) Political Science (Order #A2088789) Part 1: The United States currently is discussing the issue of immigration and the fact that there is a border between America and Mexico is one of the problems involved with the idea of global citizenship. But the concept of global citizenship not only involves the freedom to travel across artificially created borders, but also includes the idea of being part of a world community and contributing toward that community. In the 21st century, being a global citizen must entail being part of a global network, as well as being aware of the interconnected way that the world operates while promoting local policies that reflect an outlook that places the world at the center. Elements of this outlook include the promotion of human rights, democratic forms of government, economic policies that benefit the all the people of the world, religious toleration, protection of the world's environment, and the elimination of war. The idea of global citizenship is very different from what the world currently experiences. With a number of nation–states, all competing for resources, as well as political, economic, and military domination, individuals find themselves pressured to be loyal to a particular nation and its interests; which many times are in conflict with what is best for the entire planet. • 27. For example, I liked how Perestroika informs us of the trends existing within the discipline of political science, particularly the overrated focus on methods and techniques in political inquiry. I also liked how Perestroika highlights the cultural conflicts existing within the discipline, which is demonstrated by the behavior of APSR and various administrations and departments of the discipline. Perestroika dictates that the discipline needs to resolve its existing epistemological differences through tolerance and increase the understanding of these differences. Gregory Bateson's proposal for innovative thinking shows us new ways of dealing with knowledge and generating ideas. He speaks of what he calls the "ecology of mind" that is the "aggregates of ideas." Bateson stipulates that the world we see is the world we perceive "not necessarily because it exists, but because we edit the reality we see." This idea speaks to the scientific mode of inquiry, as Perestroika puts it: "causality" vs. "meaning," "objective" vs. "subjective," and "certainty" vs. "skepticism." Bates suggests that the scientific research must be interactive and inclusive of the various methods of inquiry. While Bent Flyvbjerg starts with the question of whether "theory is possible in ... These approaches were mainly related to the traditional view of politics which emphasized the study of the state and government. Therefore, traditional approaches are primarily concerned with the study of the organization and activities of the state and principles and the ideas which underlie political organizations and activities. These approaches were normative and idealistic. The political thinkers advocating these approaches, therefore, raised questions like 'what should be an ideal state?' According to them the study of Political Science should be confined to the formal structures of the government, laws, rules and regulations. The traditional or the empirical approach studies in depth the political behavior from historical, philosophical, legal and institutional point of view. Methods of traditional approach:– 1. Historical Approach 2. Philosophical Approach 3. Institutional Approach 4. • 34. Political Science And Its Foundations Political science is the study concerned chiefly with the description and analysis of political and especially governmental institutions and processes, according to the Merriam Webster Dictionary. Overall, political science and its foundations as a whole, is the study of the governments, their characteristics, and all that they stand for, the citizens and their role in our country's political system, and all the processes and documents involved in running our country. All governments are unique in their own ways, diverging from older civilizations, but America'sgovernment and political systems are based off the country's necessity for a governing body that will protect the citizens' inalienable rights while assisting them in making decisions for the greater good, while enforcing and punishing people for wrongdoings outlined by the laws and regulations of our nation. Although there are alternative governmental systems that would suffice for running our country, America has created a form of limited government, using the system of checks and balances and multiple governmental branches to regulate the political process, with an ultimate goal of representing the citizens quintessentially, meeting all their needs to create the authentic American Dream. The governmental system of our nation was fabricated on the principles of giving the American citizens the rights of living a life with property, individual thinking, freedom, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. • 35. Power As A General Political Science Power in politics is a central concept, yet a contested one for a multitude of reasons. Chief among them is its contested nature and disagreement among political scientists over the concept itself as well as its operationalization. I refrain from further exploring the literature on power as a general political science concept and focus on its aspects related to negotiation. From an international relations perspective, realists for example, emphasize on the materialistic aspect of power; military, economy and other measurable and quantifiable sources of power (Donnelly 24). Hans Morgenthau, a classical realist, defines power as "men's control over the minds and actions of other men", he further states that a political power is "the mutual relations of control among the holders of public authority and between the latter and the people at large" (32). This definition, to a degree, resonates with power in negotiation since it focuses on one's ability to influence the perception and action of others. This notion of power is relevant to negotiation in that either sides of a negotiation attempt to influence the decision making of the other side(s). Keohane Nye's definition of power is closer to Morgenthau. He defines power as "the ability of an actor to get others to do something they otherwise would not do" (10). Roger Fisher defines power in terms of negotiation as "the ability to persuade someone to do something" (182). These definitions do not emphasis on the outcome aspect of ... In other countries such as Japan, the people are expected to obey the government and corporations. If we did not have lawyers, bureaucrats would administer the law. Some complain that we have too many lawsuits, but very few would accept having to obey only the government and the bureaucrats. There is five laws that we go by in the U.S. and they are as follows. 1.Criminal Law is largely statutory, and it covers certain kinds of crimes, such as murder, robbery, rape, fraud and extortion. In criminal cases, the state prosecutes the offender not the victim. There is three kinds of offenses and they are petty offenses, such as traffic violations, and they are usually punishable by a fine. Misdemeanors where you are charged a larger fine, and then you have the major offenses. They are felonies, which were mentioned earlier, those cases can be heard and prosecuted by the state or the Federal government, and they are usually punished by imprisonment. Basically, as long as you aren 't harming others you have the right to freedom. Liberty doesn 't involve complete freedom because there are rules and laws to help protect the rights and safety of others. We have a limited government meaning that our government 's power is restricted by the constitution. In order to protect our civil rights from the government, we also have the Bill of Rights. Equality is easily put as an opportunity for equality, not absolute equality. Although, it doesn 't promise equal outcomes. Liberty and Equality work together in our nation by giving everyone as close as can be to the same options. By balancing the two together we can get many different results. All citizens have the right to make their own personal choices and to have their own outcomes without having to be like others. Does political culture affect politics? How? Or why not?

The conventional way of achieving it is to take part in the electoral process. Like many other countries, people in United States have a right to join different organizations and social groups in order to safeguard their interests, promote social activity and to contribute in societal development through social movement. These social groups provide an opportunity for the people to raise their voices for good and influence the government decisions. Without it, there will always remain a risk of having a weak democracy, which can turn into aristocracy anytime. Interest groups can be of many types. There can be economic interest groups, business groups, labor groups, professional associations, wildlife protection groups and so forth. Most "pro –choice" activist believe that the life/soul doesn't begin until the fetus exits the womb. We can concur that this is false by stating the fact; earliest human embryo is biologically alive. It fulfills the four criteria needed to establish biological life: metabolism, growth, reaction to stimuli, and reproduction. (1) Second we can conclude that the law on abortion is "absolute right to abortion" or "any abortion is justified". (2) We form this from the ruling of Roe vs Wade. Lastly a common misconception of the "pro–life & pro– choice" is that pro–life wants to take away rights from women. This statement is also untrue. Protesting for the women to gain more assistance from government funding programs or non–profit organization is the actual end goal. How could one deny the existents of life when, once the sperm penetrates the egg a new cell is form called "zygote". Which has its own unique genetic composition(DNA), it is unlike its own mothers therefore making it undeniably alive. This fact also disproves the idea that an abortion is between a woman and her own body. (3) Next we can physically see a heartbeat with ultra sounds after 22 days after conception.
