Rodrigo Duterte And Martin Luther King
Have you ever compared about two people that not related to each other, but rather they are connected
because of their capability or skills that they have in common? Rodrigo Duterte is a president in the
Philippines that the whole world knows about his controversial statements. He served as a mayor of Davao
City and reelected six times. Many people doubt his capability of being a president for the reason that he is
poor, not an excellent speaker because occasionally he uses profanity words on his statements or
interviews and he is not well known. Martin Luther King, Jr is a well–known for fighting freedom for the
black community. He is a leader of the Civil Rights Movement. King was arrested, people bombed his
house and people smear on him. But he advocates nonviolence to the black people. The three
characteristics that they have in common between Rodrigo Duterte and Martin Luther King, Jr are
empathetic, building a community and commitment.
The first characteristic that would be the most in common that they both have is empathetic. Rodrigo
Duterte came from a poor family. That's why he likes to help people, especially the poor people. In the
Philippines, there is a mass of poverty going on. Duterte always put his place in the position of poor people
considering he knows how does it feel like nothing. That's why a lot of people love him and voted him as a
president of the Philippines since he knows exactly how to communicate with poor people. He hates drugs
and corruption

Essay on America’s New Look as an Urban Nation
America's New Look as an Urban Nation
When the United States was founded as a nation after the Revolutionary War it was largely agrarian in
nature. Even when people lived in the village, that town was made up fewer that ten houses on average and
only occasionally had other buildings such as a school, church, or small store. The people lived together
for protection, and traveled out to their farm land everyday to till, plant and harvest. With the advent of the
industrial revolution staring in the early part of the nineteenth century and then even more so with the
information revolution of the 1960's onward people began moving away from the country and into the city
because that was where they worked. There were enough farms to support the ... Show more content on

Two other problems with an urban society were; gathering enough drinking water for the increasing
populous and disposing of waste. When Europe started to urbanize, they did not realize the need for the
latter and they had plagues that swept through their filthy cities. When they had learned the lesson and
provided adequate sewage disposal. Transportation of goods could come into a city and be distributed to
building sites. Therefore, railways and roadbeds that could handle the traffic were needed. Also, people
who live closer together tend to be increasingly lawless. To maintain order, a police force had to be
maintained. This public service was accompanied by the need for a fire department and public utility
workers that were not as needed in the country.
When people move into a city there is going to be a division of labor that will eventually evolve into a
class structure. In the United States the Constitution was set up in Europe and other places around the
world. However, there will always be the gentried business owners, the middle class merchants, the lower
class factory workers and the poor. These four distinct groups seem to form due to natural causes. It
becomes class when it is difficult to move between the economic levels. In the United States, people were
able to move between the different classes if they chose, but it continued to be a difficult change. The
classes in the US were not developed

Essay about Alternative Transportation & Greenways System...
Alternative Transportation & Greenways System Plan
In Transportation Alternative's "Bicycle Blueprint" for the five boroughs of New York City, John Kaehny,
executive director, states:
Making greenway networks a reality will require partnership between planners and advocates, on the one
hand, and public officials controlling purse strings on the other. Local elected officials, particularly city
council members and borough presidents, have to be reminded that greenways can multiply the value and
variety of open space in the region at very low cost in public resources; under ISTEA, bike and pedestrian
projects may be paid for using a 20/80 local/federal matching formula. What's more, by offering fresh air,

This committee is charged with guiding Ratio Architects, the city contracted engineering firm, in
facilitating public workshops, preparing the planning document, and crafting a comprehensive plan.
This paper will explore the policy process underlying the development of the City of Bloomington's
Alternative Transportation and Greenways System Plan. It will investigate the issues and the actors, the
rules and policies that influence an outcome, priorities and alternatives, as well as the lessons that can be
learned from this project and others like it.
Issues
First and foremost, the most pressing issue and reason for the current greenways project rests on the desire
of the citizenry to realize and exercise alternative means of transportation. Indiana, like most mid–western
states, is heavily dependent upon fossil fuels and recognizes the strong hold that fuel economies have on its
citizens. In Life After Oil Jeremiah Creedon states, "Oil supplies are dwindling – and much faster than
most business, government, and even environmental leaders recognize. Problems are already appearing in
the form of climbing gasoline prices, electricity shortages, and skyrocketing heating bills."3
Nonetheless Indiana still seems perfectly

Discuss the Impact of the Automobile’s Rise on Urban Form...
Discuss the impact of the automobile's rise on urban form during the twentieth century and critically
evaluate planning measures used to limit the negative social and environmental aspects Since the rise of
the automobile, there have been many dramatic changes to urban form in attempts to accommodate this
new mode of transport. Focusing on America and Britain, this discussion considers influences on all scales
ranging from reclassification of physical roads to the decentralization of urban cores. The rising social and
environmental concerns caused by the increase in vehicle usage include pedestrian safety, residential
livability, and environmental deterioration. I have decided to explore this question by ... Show more

Lippincott suggested the widening of existing streets and "new diagonal arteries dedicated only to traffic",
these plans alone would cut across the existing urban fabric dramatically (see figure 1). Eventually, the
study led to formations of Major Street Traffic Plans, written by Olmsted, Bartholomew and Cheney from
1929. When implemented, the plans altered urban form in American cities with new openings, extensions
and street patterns to reduce barriers to traffic (Roth, 2007).
Figure 1. Proposed Plans for Downtown, Los Angeles
(Traffic Commission of City and County of Los Angeles, 1924)
To an extent, the Major Street Plans and motorways were planning measures to limit social and
environmental externalities. "Separating pedestrian, streetcar, and auto traffic" enhanced the form of urban
areas and provided an efficient, coordinated street system, for example improved traffic crossings ensured
maximum pedestrian safety (Brown, 2006). With the separation of mobility and access, crossings and
passageways secured pedestrian safety in high traffic areas. However, with cities serving as "places of
innovation and creative hubs of the economy", it is assumed that the mass population would favour
proximity to central business districts (Jacobs, 1961). Considering a lower population residing in outskirt
regions and motorway infrastructures encircling cities, consequently, the separation of pedestrian and

According to McEachern (2009) investment is assumed to be autonomous with respect to disposable
income. In a particular year shows little relation to income that year. It depends more on interest rates and
on business expectations than on the prevailing income level. One reason investment is less related to
income. The decision is said to be forward looking, base more on expected profit than on current income.

Essay about Clancy of the Overflow
Clancy of the Overflow Analysis
Bush poetry gives people a unique and interesting prospective into the people who made this country the
way it is today and the history behind it. Clancy of the Overflow is a well known bush poem by poet AB
"Banjo" Paterson. Clancy of the overflow is about a person from the city who met a drover/ shearer named
Clancy. After meeting him he becomes jealous of Clancy's lifestyle which is better than his city life. In this
poem Banjo uses a variety of poetic devices to get his message across like the use of suggestive language,
descriptive language and imagery. Banjo uses suggestive language to make the reader realise that country
life is much better than city life where it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Banjo does this to persuade the reader in believing that the country lifestyle which is portrayed as free,
clean and laid back is better than the city lifestyle which is portrayed as dirty, hot and boring. Banjo also
makes the reader believe that the attractiveness of living off the land and idealizing the country life as a
drover making the quality of life in the country seems greater than in the city. Banjo uses imagery and the
first person point of view to help the reader imagine what it would be like to be a drover. The person living
in the city imagines what Clancy the drover is doing and feeling while he is stuck in a hot office all day.
"As the stock are slowly stringing, Clancy rides behind them singing" and also "He sees the vision
splendid of the sunlit plains extended and at night the wondrous glory of the everlasting stars." The city
living character is conveying what Clancy the drover is doing and how peaceful it would be if he could do
the same. He also says "And I somehow fancy that I'd like to change with Clancy." This suggests that the
city living character is somewhat jealous of Clancy, his job and his lifestyle. The city living character
furthermore explains the city life as "Of the tramways and the buses making hurry down the street, and the
language uninviting of the gutter children fighting". This suggests that the he doesn't like his life in the city
and considers it as busy and also

Technology Has Affected The World
Around the globe each individual has a different definition of what a city is to them. Perhaps in more
economically advanced countries, cities to the inhabitants' maybe a mere central business district, a place
to commute to for work, a place of entertainment and shopping. But what about those third world
countries, is the city seen as a place, for income which can help support the family leading them to a better
future and perhaps even immigration; for these citizens is the city a place for trade and markets or
somewhere where you can only dream of going to. Where ever in the world, every individual will have a
different definition and vision for the city and the surrounding areas. However the core purpose of all cities

A city has a diverse range of people who come in and out of the area day to day. People come from near
and far, whether it is a 5 minute walk, to a 10 hour flight. With this diversity also lies another diversity,
which is the purpose of their visit and the area of expertise in which they hold. Maybe it is coming here to
gain experience, or it could be coming for work, or plainly tourism and entertainment. Whatever the reason
each day many different views of a city would be created, largely affected by these backgrounds of the
individual. "The career of Benjamin W. Richardson embraced a temperance crusade, compositions in
biography, poetry, and play and novel writing, and substantial professional contributions on physiology,
pharmacology, pathology, internal medicine, anesthesis, epidemiology, sanitation, public health, and dental
hygiene." (Van Nostrand 's Eclectic Engineering Magazine, 1876, p. 31–42) through this view it can be
understood that Richardson with a vast range of experience in so many diverse fields can take many
stances on planning, with many representations in one, with this view, it is truly an eye opener. "Coelius

Abstract
Survival of the fittest: it almost seems like the "fittest" of this generation are those who live in an urban
environment. Even though the rural population makes up a significant amount of the overall population,
they are neglected. When most people think about rural living they think of the poorest of the poor. In fact,
rurality is only defined by how sparse the population is in a certain area. However, rural communities ...

Any area with a population of above 50,000 people is categorized as an urban area. To the disadvantage of
many, nearly 60 million people in the United States live in rural areas (Census, 2010). This means that a
major percentage of Americans is getting poor health services. However, there are steps that can –– and
should –– be taken to improve the nation's current health services. Rural healthcare providers must
consider tackling certain factors such as the growing patient to health professional ratio, environmental
conditions, and ethical and legal matters that must be executed.

Accessibility to Healthcare
One of the characteristics that exemplify rural healthcare is the lack of doctors per capita. Statistics show
that there is an unequal distribution of health care; more services are targeted and provided for the urban
population. According to a study in Rickett's book, Rural Health in the United States, 20% of the U.S.
population lives in rural areas; however, only 8% of doctors serve the rural community. These residents
also face the challenge of finding specialized doctors for their specific needs. In some cases, patients need
to travel long distances to get the health care that they need. A study was conducted in which 20,693,828
patients visited a clinic. Based on this study, Patients in the rural areas needed to travel 2 to 3 times

Gentrification in the city:
Rauch (1993), Crihfield and Panggaben (1995), Glaser et al (1995), Simon (1998), Simon and Nardinelli
(2002) and Glaser and Saiz( 2004) address human capital as impacting the economic performance of the
area and is also identified as the main determinant of growth in metropolitan areas. Crihfield and
Panggabean (1995) include four points of production function: labor, private physical capital, public
infrastructure capital, and human capital. The researchers analyzed race, amenities, growth, geography as
well as public capital investment to ascertain the large impact human capital has on the growth of the city,

Smith views gentrification as a negative thing, and a "product of political economic shifts in local and
global markets (Smith pp.92)". He notes that this revanchist or French for Revenge city theme aggressively
re–claims the city and tries to re–infuse the city with middle–class morals, standards and costs.
Gentrification also experiences a pattern of what many note as consumption in which those with the sweat
equity such as the LGBT community but some such as Rose (1984) suggested that first wave gentrifiers
were of small means, but were able to carve out spaces and enclaves of sage space based on sweat equity
Smith (1996) reintroduces the notion of the rent gap in gentrification. Knopp (1987) mentions the increase
in rents and the inability for pioneer gentrifiers in the gay community to keep up with the increase in taxes
and home prices.
Knopp (1990) analyzes the significance of gays in the gentrification process in New Orleans, Louisiana.
He finds that are three sets of events that present catalysts for neighborhood transformation; the
transformation included gay men, specifically white gay men who were active in the community and also
developers of the neighborhood. Knopp concluded that, "...the class interests of those who treat land as a
financial asset can be facilitated by forming cross–cultural and cross–class alliances with gay
communities" ( p.337). Knopp (1990) also believed that the male dominance of the community

China 's Recent Urban Planning
Study Context and Data Sources
2.1 Beijing's Recent Urban Planning
Beijing is the capital of China and one of the most populous cities in the world. The current population as
of 2014 was over 21 million. The area of Beijing Metropolitan Area (BMA) is 16,410 square kilometers.
According to land use dataset of Beijing Institute of City Planning, the total urban area as of 2012 was
1,675 square kilometers. The BMA currently comprises 16 administrative subdivisions, as presented in
Figure 1.
Figure 1 The Beijing Metropolitan Area Since the latest administrative boundary adjustment of Beijing in
1958, there have been five urban master plans drafted in 1958, 1973, 1982, 1992 and 2004. Each master
plan was associated with a planned overall land use map. Individual land parcels in the map were assigned
with a land classification of either urban (residential, commercial, industrial, public green land, and
mixed–use land) or non–urban (farmland, forestland, and wetland) (Long, Gu, & Han, 2012). The maps
guide the future urban development, and actual land uses should conform to the land classification plan.
Since the beginning of the 1990s, the BMA has experienced an unprecedented increase in population
growth and urban development. By the year 2003, Beijing's population and urban built–up area had
already surpassed the capacity set forth in the 1992 –2010 Master Plan, seven years ahead of the plan's
scheduled expiration date. To address new challenges and plan for greater

The Master And Margarita By Mikhail Bulgakov
The Master and Margarita is a novel by Mikhail Bulgakov that is set in the Russian city of Moscow while
Invisible Cities is a novel by Italo Calvino. Both novels share striking similarities but also do share sharply
contrasting approaches. Both books are fictional and have similar stylistic devices in their description of
events. Invisible Cities is a book that requires the reader to use extensively of his imagination so as to
envision the cities that he is describing. The description of the cities can be confusing as is with description
of Ziara as "The city does not consist of this, (stairs and streets) but of relationships between the
measurememts of its space and the events of its past: the height of a lamppost and the distance and the
sistance from the ground of a hanged usurper's swaying feet;..." (Pg 10). Imagination and perception are
themes that Calvino advances in this book in his description of cities. The cities have fancy sounding
names with functions that their residents have and play being different from one city to another.
Polo travels with King Khan and narrates to him about the cities, and although the kind is unsure about the
existence of the cities, he is nonetheless looking forward to hearing about them and their characters and
leaders. Polo at one time asks Khan to imagine sitting in one of the cities and trying to experience what
being in that city at that time felt like. The invitation by Polo to Khan to imagine himself in the city serves

Gentrification and White Preference in the Rhode Island...
The loss of public housing and the expanse of the wealth gap throughout the state of Rhode Island has
been a rising issue between the critics and supporters of gentrification, in both urban areas such as
Providence and wealthy areas such as the island of Newport, among other examples. With the cities under
a monopoly headed by the wealth of each neighborhood, one is left to wonder how such a system is fair to
all groups. Relatively speaking, it isn't, and the only ones who benefit from such a system are white–
skinned. With the deterioration of the economic status of Rhode Island, and especially in the city of
Providence, more and more educated Caucasians are leaving to seek a more fertile economic environment.

For example, many cities that are rich in culture, diversity, and vitality are beacons for white people
interested in the "upcoming scene." This brings more and more whites who displace and marginalize the
original residents through increasing prices. Cities such as New York, Boston, and San Francisco all have
neighborhoods that originally had mostly poor, uneducated African Americans, and now are swelling with
young, educated whites that have greatly increased the price of living. In Boston, Charlestown, Jamaica

until the present, showcasing an increase in the population with at least a bachelor's degree, as well as a
large increase in new and renovated buildings. In New York, the most famous example of gentrification is
in Harlem, has undergone a process of gentrification after becoming known as the national, and even

The Baby Boomer : The New Staple Of The American Dream
INTRO During the "Baby Boomer" era, following WWII, America underwent one of the largest
demographic shifts and population growths in history. Huge amounts of home construction on the outskirts
of America's largest cities, known as "levittowns" became the new staple of the American dream, with the
houses sporting two car garages, and white picket fences. These low density, predominantly middle class
residential districts, were America's first true suburbs. These suburbs were constructed mainly in response
to the new postwar consumerism that enveloped the parents of the baby boomers. With the new economy,
affordable housing, and most families becoming single income dependent, families grew bigger and
bigger. The 1947 passing of the bill that lead to the interstate highway system, only added fuel to the fire of
suburbanization. With the new interstate highway system, more affordable and fuel efficient automobiles,
and the government aiding in the financing of new suburban homes, the choice seemed elementary. All of
these factors pushing to the suburban movement, only spurred the baby boomers on, and between 1940–
50, there was an 835% percent increase in living births with nearly 4 million children being born every
year. In 1940, 19.5% of the United States population lived in what would be considered to be suburban
areas outside of large metropolitan areas, however, by 1960; the number was pushing nearly 40%. The

The Issues Regarding Access Healthcare For Rural Veterans
The Issues Regarding Access to Healthcare for Rural Veterans in Montana
Introduction
One of the biggest problems of the current VA administration is access to health care for veterans in rural
areas. According to the office of rural health as of 2014 there were 22 million veterans across the nation,
5.3 million of them live in rural areas, and 57% of these rural veterans are enrolled in the U.S. Department
of Veterans Affairs (VA) health care system (ORH).
Over 20 percent of military service members returning from Iraq and Afghanistan reported symptoms of
PTSD or depression but only a bit more than 50% of them have sought treatment. One reason for this is
due to the fact that many of these veterans reside in rural areas ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This means that veterans in poor socio–economic rural areas are more likely to suffer from health issues
that are going to need continuous treatment. This link was made most evident in the veterans who returned
home from service in the Gulf and Iraq Wars due to them suffering from a wide variety of behavioral and
physical issues, including PTSD, injuries sustained from blast exposure, chronic joint pain, substance
abuse, long term effects to substances used in biological warfare, injuries from working with chemicals
and machinery during their time of service (Heady, Gale). These issues are made worse for veterans living
in rural areas due to the lack of access to VA healthcare.

The Environment And Governance Of Modern Cities
The topic of ecological sustainability can be complex or simple, depending on the many factors that take
place. In living systems, being sustainable means to produce more than to waste. By creating something
sustainable, it assures that the resources can be recycled and will be available for people in the future to
meet their needs. In terms of modern cities, the sustainability depends on how much minerals and energy
we bring into the city (water, energy), and how we use them effectively for our health and community,
while keeping the available resources from depleting. Not only that, the sustainability also depends on the
cities form and infrastructure to support an average citizen's daily needs. With the politics and governance
of modern cities, how viable are plans of creating a sustainable city now? Is it possible? Many nations
have already agreed that it is an important and influential issue, with harsh consequences if not tackled.
The situation of a city and its flaws also depends on if the cities are in the third world, or in a rich nation. A
sustainable city needs to be environmentally worthy, have a suitable infrastructure for all and should be
well run. These characteristics can only be achieved by proper governance and the collective effort of the
citizens. The essay discusses the importance of environmental sustainability and some of the widely known
issues of urban and rural sustainability around the globe and possible solutions and preventions.

Benefits Of Small Town Living
Growing up in a very little town in Illinois was a lot different than growing up in Houston, Texas. When I
was in the fourth grade I found many things to have changed about my surroundings, I currently lived in a
place where, the people thought and acted differently. I know now reading about it and understanding more
that some of those changes were for the good and some were not. Small town living has its advantages
such as, very close friendships, close approximately to may things, and friendly people. Looking back, I
also realized that there were a lot of disadvantages such as lack of transportation, affects of a poor
education, no opportunities for growth, crime, no diversity, and low paying jobs and housing. Now that I
am older, and aware of the affects of living in a small town, I can see how these many things affected my
life and will continue affect it in the future. I grew up, the majority of my live, in a town in central Illinois,
Kincaid, or better known as South Fork because of the co–op with the schools around us in sports. This
town is approximately 20 miles southeast of Springfield, and is only seven miles west from the nearest
town, with many opportunities that my town did not offer (City–data).
With a total population of 1,495, including the town of Tovey about a mile away, as of July 1, 2015
Kincaid is ranked as number 587 of 1,367 as being a small town in Illinois (Kincaid, IL). Kincaid is only

Can Critical Regionalism Counteract The Impact Of...
Can Critical Regionalism counteract the impact of Globalisation on our cities?
In the era of constant networking and relaying of information, the world has become a much smaller place.
The shrinking world has somewhat become a familiar spectacle of identical fads and lifestyles. At least in
the developed countries, globalisation has given birth to homogenous consumer culture. Demonstrated not
only by the expansion of multi–national cooperations such as Apple and Starbucks but also by the
indistinct architecture. It is a common sighting in urban cities today to see the identical steel, concrete and
glass structures. This occurrence might be innate due to the easy exportation of concepts and architects,
however not obligatory. Whilst advancing towards a modern society, architects have adapted this
"universal style" of architecture that fails to represent the unique topography of different cities. Architects
have the choice to either "repeat the same building everywhere or to push ourselves forward, to create an
encounter between ourselves and the local culture" (Koolhaas, 2012). If the notion of Critical Regionalism
were to be practiced by architects through the integration of the local culture with modern techniques, it
could potentially return the missing identities of these cities.
Critical Regionalism was devised during the early 20th century, as an attempt to reject the monotony
developed by the International Style and the purposeless ornamentation utilised by

Comparison Between Karl Marx And Emile Durkheim
Name: Crystal Henrick FL6132
Compare and contrast the various early European urban theorists as found in Chapter 1 of the course text.
(300–400 words)
The two theorists i've decided to compare and contrast are Karl Marx and Emile Durkheim. Firstly i'll
compare them to one another. From all the readings I did and past education on these individuals I found
they have a lot of the same views in regards to religion. Both Emlie Durkheim and Karl Marx believe that
religion is a projection of mans hopes and desires. They both also agree that religion plays a powerful role
in influencing the members of a society. While coming up with these theories they were both more
concerned with the human rather than the religion. Both of them did not believe in a god or gods. It's been
said that Marx saw god as idealization of human nature while Durkheim believed the idea of a god was
society itself. They were not religious people so it's interesting that they did have some of the same views
and theories regarding religion in the society.
The differences between them are pretty simple. As I was previously comparing their views on religion I
can continue that with talking about their differences in regards to religion, Marx argues that religion
oppresses the people in the society while Durkheim argues that religion unites the society. Further; Emile
Durkheim was a Functionalist, meaning he looked at society in a scientific way. He believed that members
of the same society all wanted the same

Urbanization and growth go with each other: no country has ever reached a great economy without a
significant population shift into cities. According to United Nations databases, the proportion of the 2014
world population living in urban areas was 54 per cent, heading for 66 per cent by 2050. Urbanization is
necessary to keep up growth in developing countries, and it yields other benefits as well. But it is not pain–
less or always welcomed by policymakers or the general public. Managing urbanization is an important
part of nurturing growth; neglecting cities–even in countries in which the level of urbanization is low–can
impose heavy costs. Historically, urban infrastructures have materialized as a response to emergent issues,
natural disasters are just an example of them. In the more distant past, construction has been a driven by
localized issues such as sanitation, flooding or fire. The reaction has been to engineer systems (under the
powers of centralized, state–led planning and public funding) that solve a single problem at a particular
time. Little thought has been

Changes in Technology and Changes in the Housing Design...
According to Bemis (1936) "A new conception of the structure of our modern houses is needed, better
adapted not only to the social conditions of our day but also to the modern means of production: factories,
machinery, technology and research". Albert Bemis, US housing manufacturer in the early twentieth
century has a vested interest in using technology to advance new concepts in the design of houses.
Nevertheless he points to the important relationship of the use of technology in the structural design of
housing. However, it is difficult to estimate how far changes in technology were responsible for changes in
the design of housing as much of the evidence that has been sourced argues that the social, political and

In this essay it will be demonstrated that these elements unified with technology to create change which
impacted on changes in the design of housing.
Urban Concepts
Man's primary need has always been housing as shelter from the elements. Originally mud huts were built
where hunters were able to find animals for food and then more permanent dwellings were built, using
local materials, as the economy changed to agriculture. Later as populations grew so different
environments emerged with significant change in the urban form and fabric of settlements. Housing was
determined not only by available materials but also the cost of getting them to the place of construction.
Different places had different availability of materials and labour which shaped the design of housing.
Each technology therefore had an impact and was a common thread unifying changes in housing in
Athens, Paris and Chicago. From this it can be seen that innovative technology continues to advance and
cause significant social change that is, 'certain urban characteristics flow inevitably from new technologies'
(Chant 1999).

Why We Need An Urban County Government
Why We Need an Urban County Government
For too long this area has taken a back seat to the larger cities around us. We need to join the rest of the
progressive regions in this state and establish a new, more efficient form of government. Pulaski County
and the cities of Somerset, Science Hill, Ferguson, and Burnside need to merge together and create an
urban county government. This will help to consolidate duplicate services, provide better representation for
the citizens of Pulaski County, and strengthen the economy in this region.

As a result, it is possible for the citizens to vote to implement this type of government. Therefore, in April
of 2013 the Somerset–Pulaski County United group formed and began the process of having feasibility
studies done to see if the formation of an urban county government would be an alternative that would
serve our area well. According to the Commonwealth Journal, a newspaper in Somerset, Kentucky, "A
group of about 60 community leaders, clustered as Somerset–Pulaski County United (SPCU), is embarking
on a study to determine if a consolidated or united government in Pulaski County would be more efficient
and more responsive to the county's 63,000 residents." (Mardis and Shmidheiser). This group, a cross–
section that well represents the residents of this county, believes that the formation an urban county
government is a great opportunity for all our futures.
Unfortunately, the SPCU has faced much antagonism in this initial phase of work. Many current
government leaders are afraid of what changes might do to their positions of power. But these same leaders
are also the ones who create problems and allow current ones to continue. Having a council of peers will

Child labour is a worldwide problem regardless of the economic status of a country. This social
phenomenon continues to exist both in developed and developing countries. The Philippines as one of
Newly Industrializing Countries, also encounters the same (C. Diaz, personal communication, December

Beautiful and sad. A narrative from a father to a son. Initially I thought it was tragic and heartbreaking. It is
a true story and a real reflection on the default of being human. If for loss of compassion for this side of
humanity, I would say in an objective and extremely distant point of view that it is pathetic.
It is good that I am reading it in my 20s, being a daughter, single and childless.
I truly get the father's anguish and grief. The poems express oscillating feelings that explore the
dimensions of extent of strong human emotion. At the same time I understand the son's rebelliousness to a
parent who insists that he (the father) listens yet strongly occurs as imposing. Unfortunately, the love
desperately being communicated does not go across. The story revolved in the father's thoughts, dreams
and memories without an actual dialogue: an attempt to truly listen and get his son.
The father's hopes to someday laugh at these poems with his son is a very real illusion that humans live in
by default. Hopes and wishes become so real a reality in the fantasy world of our minds that who we
become and act according to what is taking place is regrettably misaligned to the future that we say we

There is response to this question in the text, but I can explain my thought. When we buy a coffee at
Starbucks we don't buy only a coffee but also a corporate images, a service, a way of thinking and living.
Starbucks create its own environment, brand value. It represents the premium coffee. There is not only

To respond to Americans and Europeans' increasing concern for the environment, Starbucks adopted a

way to play with the affective (emotional) component of the consumer.

Essay About Duterte
"Radical simply means 'grasping things at the root'"– Angela Davis (Radical Quotes). Throughout history,

The Problem Of A Firefighter
Summary:There are people in this country who want to be firefighters but the problem is they don 't know
if the want to pursue this career in a large city or a small town. I 'm proposing whether it 's better to be a
firefighter in a large city like Kansas City or a firefighter in a small town like Jefferson City. I 'm proposing
this to anyone who might want to be a firefighter, also whether it is better to live in Kansas City or
Jefferson City. The cost of important things like utilities, housing, groceries, and health are all important
when making a decision on where you want to live and be a firefighter because you can not just make your

My research will help people to decide where they want to be a firefighter, it will help them to decide
where they want to work. It will give them all the essential information they need to know to make their
decision on where they want to live and work. This will help out the people who have this problem and
help them to decide where they want to be a firefighter. And just because you choose one town or city does
not mean you can 't go be a firefighter somewhere else in the future.
Proposed Program/Solution: In kansas city there firemen are making $47,550 annually on average and start
out at $26,100 and a veteran firefighter gets paid $69,160 annually(How Much Do 3). In jefferson city the
average firefighter pay is $13,994 a year starting out and after a couple years making $42,488 a year and as
a veteran firefighter making $59,447(How Much Do 1). On average in the United States firefighters make
$48,270 which means the average pay in Kansas City is $580 or 1.2% higher than national average(How
Much Do 4). Looking at the historical salaries for Jefferson City, Missouri, the average pay for this job has
decreased by $13,994 (–32.03%) from a year ago( How Much Do 1). From the data on salaries it appears
that firefighters who work for the kansas city fire department

Rodrigo Duterte And Martin Luther King

  • 1. Rodrigo Duterte And Martin Luther King Have you ever compared about two people that not related to each other, but rather they are connected because of their capability or skills that they have in common? Rodrigo Duterte is a president in the Philippines that the whole world knows about his controversial statements. He served as a mayor of Davao City and reelected six times. Many people doubt his capability of being a president for the reason that he is poor, not an excellent speaker because occasionally he uses profanity words on his statements or interviews and he is not well known. Martin Luther King, Jr is a well–known for fighting freedom for the black community. He is a leader of the Civil Rights Movement. King was arrested, people bombed his house and people smear on him. But he advocates nonviolence to the black people. The three characteristics that they have in common between Rodrigo Duterte and Martin Luther King, Jr are empathetic, building a community and commitment. The first characteristic that would be the most in common that they both have is empathetic. Rodrigo Duterte came from a poor family. That's why he likes to help people, especially the poor people. In the Philippines, there is a mass of poverty going on. Duterte always put his place in the position of poor people considering he knows how does it feel like nothing. That's why a lot of people love him and voted him as a president of the Philippines since he knows exactly how to communicate with poor people. He hates drugs and corruption ... Essay on America’s New Look as an Urban Nation America's New Look as an Urban Nation When the United States was founded as a nation after the Revolutionary War it was largely agrarian in nature. Even when people lived in the village, that town was made up fewer that ten houses on average and only occasionally had other buildings such as a school, church, or small store. The people lived together for protection, and traveled out to their farm land everyday to till, plant and harvest. With the advent of the industrial revolution staring in the early part of the nineteenth century and then even more so with the information revolution of the 1960's onward people began moving away from the country and into the city because that was where they worked. Two other problems with an urban society were; gathering enough drinking water for the increasing populous and disposing of waste. When Europe started to urbanize, they did not realize the need for the latter and they had plagues that swept through their filthy cities. When they had learned the lesson and provided adequate sewage disposal. Transportation of goods could come into a city and be distributed to building sites. Therefore, railways and roadbeds that could handle the traffic were needed. Also, people who live closer together tend to be increasingly lawless. To maintain order, a police force had to be maintained. This public service was accompanied by the need for a fire department and public utility workers that were not as needed in the country. When people move into a city there is going to be a division of labor that will eventually evolve into a class structure. In the United States the Constitution was set up in Europe and other places around the world. However, there will always be the gentried business owners, the middle class merchants, the lower class factory workers and the poor. These four distinct groups seem to form due to natural causes. It becomes class when it is difficult to move between the economic levels. In the United States, people were able to move between the different classes if they chose, but it continued to be a difficult change. The classes in the US were not developed ... Alternative Transportation & Greenways System Plan In Transportation Alternative's "Bicycle Blueprint" for the five boroughs of New York City, John Kaehny, executive director, states: Making greenway networks a reality will require partnership between planners and advocates, on the one hand, and public officials controlling purse strings on the other. Local elected officials, particularly city council members and borough presidents, have to be reminded that greenways can multiply the value and variety of open space in the region at very low cost in public resources; under ISTEA, bike and pedestrian projects may be paid for using a 20/80 local/federal matching formula. This committee is charged with guiding Ratio Architects, the city contracted engineering firm, in facilitating public workshops, preparing the planning document, and crafting a comprehensive plan. It will investigate the issues and the actors, the rules and policies that influence an outcome, priorities and alternatives, as well as the lessons that can be learned from this project and others like it. Issues First and foremost, the most pressing issue and reason for the current greenways project rests on the desire of the citizenry to realize and exercise alternative means of transportation. Indiana, like most mid–western states, is heavily dependent upon fossil fuels and recognizes the strong hold that fuel economies have on its citizens. In Life After Oil Jeremiah Creedon states, "Oil supplies are dwindling – and much faster than most business, government, and even environmental leaders recognize. Problems are already appearing in the form of climbing gasoline prices, electricity shortages, and skyrocketing heating bills."3 Nonetheless Indiana still seems perfectly ... Discuss the impact of the automobile's rise on urban form during the twentieth century and critically evaluate planning measures used to limit the negative social and environmental aspects Since the rise of the automobile, there have been many dramatic changes to urban form in attempts to accommodate this new mode of transport. Focusing on America and Britain, this discussion considers influences on all scales ranging from reclassification of physical roads to the decentralization of urban cores. Lippincott suggested the widening of existing streets and "new diagonal arteries dedicated only to traffic", these plans alone would cut across the existing urban fabric dramatically (see figure 1). Eventually, the study led to formations of Major Street Traffic Plans, written by Olmsted, Bartholomew and Cheney from 1929. When implemented, the plans altered urban form in American cities with new openings, extensions and street patterns to reduce barriers to traffic (Roth, 2007). Figure 1. Proposed Plans for Downtown, Los Angeles (Traffic Commission of City and County of Los Angeles, 1924) To an extent, the Major Street Plans and motorways were planning measures to limit social and environmental externalities. "Separating pedestrian, streetcar, and auto traffic" enhanced the form of urban areas and provided an efficient, coordinated street system, for example improved traffic crossings ensured maximum pedestrian safety (Brown, 2006). With the separation of mobility and access, crossings and passageways secured pedestrian safety in high traffic areas. However, with cities serving as "places of innovation and creative hubs of the economy", it is assumed that the mass population would favour proximity to central business districts (Jacobs, 1961). After meeting him he becomes jealous of Clancy's lifestyle which is better than his city life. Banjo uses imagery and the first person point of view to help the reader imagine what it would be like to be a drover. The person living in the city imagines what Clancy the drover is doing and feeling while he is stuck in a hot office all day. "As the stock are slowly stringing, Clancy rides behind them singing" and also "He sees the vision splendid of the sunlit plains extended and at night the wondrous glory of the everlasting stars." The city living character is conveying what Clancy the drover is doing and how peaceful it would be if he could do the same. He also says "And I somehow fancy that I'd like to change with Clancy." This suggests that the city living character is somewhat jealous of Clancy, his job and his lifestyle. The city living character furthermore explains the city life as "Of the tramways and the buses making hurry down the street, and the language uninviting of the gutter children fighting". With this diversity also lies another diversity, which is the purpose of their visit and the area of expertise in which they hold. Maybe it is coming here to gain experience, or it could be coming for work, or plainly tourism and entertainment. Whatever the reason each day many different views of a city would be created, largely affected by these backgrounds of the individual. "The career of Benjamin W. Any area with a population of above 50,000 people is categorized as an urban area. To the disadvantage of many, nearly 60 million people in the United States live in rural areas (Census, 2010). This means that a major percentage of Americans is getting poor health services. However, there are steps that can –– and should –– be taken to improve the nation's current health services. Rural healthcare providers must consider tackling certain factors such as the growing patient to health professional ratio, environmental conditions, and ethical and legal matters that must be executed. 3 Accessibility to Healthcare One of the characteristics that exemplify rural healthcare is the lack of doctors per capita. Statistics show that there is an unequal distribution of health care; more services are targeted and provided for the urban population. According to a study in Rickett's book, Rural Health in the United States, 20% of the U.S. population lives in rural areas; however, only 8% of doctors serve the rural community. These residents also face the challenge of finding specialized doctors for their specific needs. In some cases, patients need to travel long distances to get the health care that they need. A study was conducted in which 20,693,828 patients visited a clinic. Based on this study, Patients in the rural areas needed to travel 2 to 3 times ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Gentrification also experiences a pattern of what many note as consumption in which those with the sweat equity such as the LGBT community but some such as Rose (1984) suggested that first wave gentrifiers were of small means, but were able to carve out spaces and enclaves of sage space based on sweat equity Smith (1996) reintroduces the notion of the rent gap in gentrification. Knopp (1987) mentions the increase in rents and the inability for pioneer gentrifiers in the gay community to keep up with the increase in taxes and home prices. Knopp (1990) analyzes the significance of gays in the gentrification process in New Orleans, Louisiana. He finds that are three sets of events that present catalysts for neighborhood transformation; the transformation included gay men, specifically white gay men who were active in the community and also developers of the neighborhood. The current population as of 2014 was over 21 million. The area of Beijing Metropolitan Area (BMA) is 16,410 square kilometers. According to land use dataset of Beijing Institute of City Planning, the total urban area as of 2012 was 1,675 square kilometers. The BMA currently comprises 16 administrative subdivisions, as presented in Figure 1. Figure 1 The Beijing Metropolitan Area Since the latest administrative boundary adjustment of Beijing in 1958, there have been five urban master plans drafted in 1958, 1973, 1982, 1992 and 2004. Each master plan was associated with a planned overall land use map. Individual land parcels in the map were assigned with a land classification of either urban (residential, commercial, industrial, public green land, and mixed–use land) or non–urban (farmland, forestland, and wetland) (Long, Gu, & Han, 2012). The maps guide the future urban development, and actual land uses should conform to the land classification plan. Since the beginning of the 1990s, the BMA has experienced an unprecedented increase in population growth and urban development. By the year 2003, Beijing's population and urban built–up area had already surpassed the capacity set forth in the 1992 –2010 Master Plan, seven years ahead of the plan's scheduled expiration date. The Master And Margarita By Mikhail Bulgakov The Master and Margarita is a novel by Mikhail Bulgakov that is set in the Russian city of Moscow while Invisible Cities is a novel by Italo Calvino. Both novels share striking similarities but also do share sharply contrasting approaches. Both books are fictional and have similar stylistic devices in their description of events. Invisible Cities is a book that requires the reader to use extensively of his imagination so as to envision the cities that he is describing. The description of the cities can be confusing as is with description of Ziara as "The city does not consist of this, (stairs and streets) but of relationships between the measurememts of its space and the events of its past: the height of a lamppost and the distance and the sistance from the ground of a hanged usurper's swaying feet;..." (Pg 10). Imagination and perception are themes that Calvino advances in this book in his description of cities. The cities have fancy sounding names with functions that their residents have and play being different from one city to another. Polo travels with King Khan and narrates to him about the cities, and although the kind is unsure about the existence of the cities, he is nonetheless looking forward to hearing about them and their characters and leaders. • 19. The Baby Boomer : The New Staple Of The American Dream INTRO During the "Baby Boomer" era, following WWII, America underwent one of the largest demographic shifts and population growths in history. Huge amounts of home construction on the outskirts of America's largest cities, known as "levittowns" became the new staple of the American dream, with the houses sporting two car garages, and white picket fences. These low density, predominantly middle class residential districts, were America's first true suburbs. These suburbs were constructed mainly in response to the new postwar consumerism that enveloped the parents of the baby boomers. With the new economy, affordable housing, and most families becoming single income dependent, families grew bigger and bigger. The 1947 passing of the bill that lead to the interstate highway system, only added fuel to the fire of suburbanization. With the new interstate highway system, more affordable and fuel efficient automobiles, and the government aiding in the financing of new suburban homes, the choice seemed elementary. All of these factors pushing to the suburban movement, only spurred the baby boomers on, and between 1940– 50, there was an 835% percent increase in living births with nearly 4 million children being born every year. In 1940, 19.5% of the United States population lived in what would be considered to be suburban areas outside of large metropolitan areas, however, by 1960; the number was pushing nearly 40%. • 22. The Environment And Governance Of Modern Cities The topic of ecological sustainability can be complex or simple, depending on the many factors that take place. In living systems, being sustainable means to produce more than to waste. By creating something sustainable, it assures that the resources can be recycled and will be available for people in the future to meet their needs. In terms of modern cities, the sustainability depends on how much minerals and energy we bring into the city (water, energy), and how we use them effectively for our health and community, while keeping the available resources from depleting. Not only that, the sustainability also depends on the cities form and infrastructure to support an average citizen's daily needs. With the politics and governance of modern cities, how viable are plans of creating a sustainable city now? Is it possible? Many nations have already agreed that it is an important and influential issue, with harsh consequences if not tackled. The situation of a city and its flaws also depends on if the cities are in the third world, or in a rich nation. A sustainable city needs to be environmentally worthy, have a suitable infrastructure for all and should be well run. These characteristics can only be achieved by proper governance and the collective effort of the citizens. In the era of constant networking and relaying of information, the world has become a much smaller place. The shrinking world has somewhat become a familiar spectacle of identical fads and lifestyles. At least in the developed countries, globalisation has given birth to homogenous consumer culture. Demonstrated not only by the expansion of multi–national cooperations such as Apple and Starbucks but also by the indistinct architecture. It is a common sighting in urban cities today to see the identical steel, concrete and glass structures. This occurrence might be innate due to the easy exportation of concepts and architects, however not obligatory. Whilst advancing towards a modern society, architects have adapted this "universal style" of architecture that fails to represent the unique topography of different cities. Architects have the choice to either "repeat the same building everywhere or to push ourselves forward, to create an encounter between ourselves and the local culture" (Koolhaas, 2012). If the notion of Critical Regionalism were to be practiced by architects through the integration of the local culture with modern techniques, it could potentially return the missing identities of these cities. (300–400 words) The two theorists i've decided to compare and contrast are Karl Marx and Emile Durkheim. Firstly i'll compare them to one another. From all the readings I did and past education on these individuals I found they have a lot of the same views in regards to religion. Both Emlie Durkheim and Karl Marx believe that religion is a projection of mans hopes and desires. They both also agree that religion plays a powerful role in influencing the members of a society. While coming up with these theories they were both more concerned with the human rather than the religion. Both of them did not believe in a god or gods. It's been said that Marx saw god as idealization of human nature while Durkheim believed the idea of a god was society itself. They were not religious people so it's interesting that they did have some of the same views and theories regarding religion in the society. The differences between them are pretty simple. As I was previously comparing their views on religion I can continue that with talking about their differences in regards to religion, Marx argues that religion oppresses the people in the society while Durkheim argues that religion unites the society. Further; Emile Durkheim was a Functionalist, meaning he looked at society in a scientific way. He believed that members of the same society all wanted the same ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

According to United Nations databases, the proportion of the 2014 world population living in urban areas was 54 per cent, heading for 66 per cent by 2050. Urbanization is necessary to keep up growth in developing countries, and it yields other benefits as well. But it is not pain– less or always welcomed by policymakers or the general public. Managing urbanization is an important part of nurturing growth; neglecting cities–even in countries in which the level of urbanization is low–can impose heavy costs. Historically, urban infrastructures have materialized as a response to emergent issues, natural disasters are just an example of them. In the more distant past, construction has been a driven by localized issues such as sanitation, flooding or fire. The reaction has been to engineer systems (under the powers of centralized, state–led planning and public funding) that solve a single problem at a particular time. Little thought has been ... Albert Bemis, US housing manufacturer in the early twentieth century has a vested interest in using technology to advance new concepts in the design of houses. Urban Concepts Man's primary need has always been housing as shelter from the elements. Originally mud huts were built where hunters were able to find animals for food and then more permanent dwellings were built, using local materials, as the economy changed to agriculture. Later as populations grew so different environments emerged with significant change in the urban form and fabric of settlements. Housing was determined not only by available materials but also the cost of getting them to the place of construction. Different places had different availability of materials and labour which shaped the design of housing. Each technology therefore had an impact and was a common thread unifying changes in housing in Athens, Paris and Chicago. From this it can be seen that innovative technology continues to advance and cause significant social change that is, 'certain urban characteristics flow inevitably from new technologies' (Chant 1999). According to the Commonwealth Journal, a newspaper in Somerset, Kentucky, "A group of about 60 community leaders, clustered as Somerset–Pulaski County United (SPCU), is embarking on a study to determine if a consolidated or united government in Pulaski County would be more efficient and more responsive to the county's 63,000 residents." This group, a cross– section that well represents the residents of this county, believes that the formation an urban county government is a great opportunity for all our futures. Unfortunately, the SPCU has faced much antagonism in this initial phase of work. Many current government leaders are afraid of what changes might do to their positions of power. It is a true story and a real reflection on the default of being human. If for loss of compassion for this side of humanity, I would say in an objective and extremely distant point of view that it is pathetic. It is good that I am reading it in my 20s, being a daughter, single and childless. I truly get the father's anguish and grief. The poems express oscillating feelings that explore the dimensions of extent of strong human emotion. At the same time I understand the son's rebelliousness to a parent who insists that he (the father) listens yet strongly occurs as imposing. Unfortunately, the love desperately being communicated does not go across. The story revolved in the father's thoughts, dreams and memories without an actual dialogue: an attempt to truly listen and get his son. The father's hopes to someday laugh at these poems with his son is a very real illusion that humans live in by default. Hopes and wishes become so real a reality in the fantasy world of our minds that who we become and act according to what is taking place is regrettably misaligned to the future that we say we want to ...
