SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY
AND SOCIETY
Genetically Modified Orgranisms(GMO) are
living organisms whose genetic material has been
altered through genetic engineering techniques.
WHAT IS GMO?
HISTORICAL

CONCERNS AND ETHICAL
IMPLICATIONS OF GMOs
According to a study by
Diamandis and Hoffman
(2015), the consumption of
GM foods has raised several
health concerns, including
the transfer of allergens,
toxins, and antibiotic
resistance genes. Similarly,
the scientists argue that the
production of GMOs has the
potential to reduce
biodiversity, alter
ecosystems and create new
health concerns.

On the other hand,
Wollard and Jansa
(2018) posit that
genetically modified
crops can improve
yields, decrease the use
of pesticides and
herbicides, and reduce
the cost of farming.
Additionally, they opine
that the technology is
safe and has been
extensively tested by
regulatory bodies.
