2. Most common types of laboratory glassware’s and equipments used laboratories. Some of them are described
here:-
1. Beaker: A beaker is a cylindrical glass vessel used for holding liquids.
2. Conical flask: These flask have a conical shape, hence the name conical flask exist. It is also called
Erlenmeyer flask. It is used for titration, mixing and swirling of aliquot in the flask without too much risk of
spilling.
3. Graduated Cylinder: This is a primary tool used to accurately measure the volume of a liquid.
4. Volumetric Flasks: Volumetric flask is a round flask with a narrow long neck and a flat bottom. It is used to
measure an exact volume of solution or for precise dilutions and preparation of standard solutions.
5. Watch Glass: It is a very thin piece of glass that is barely concave with a little dip in the centre to allow for
storage of chemical and powders.
6. Evaporating Dish: An evaporating dish is a porcelain vessel used for heating stable solid compounds and for
evaporating nonvolatile solutions.
3. 7. Florence Flask: It has a round body with long neck and round or a flat bottom. It is used to hold liquid
chemical solutions. It is designed for uniform heating and ease of swirling.
8. Funnel: It is used to transfer liquids or fine grained substances from one vessel/ containers to another with
small opening.
9. Wash Bottle: A wash bottle is a squeeze bottle with a nozzle. It is used to rinse various pieces of laboratory
glassware.
10. Reagent Bottles: They are containers made of glass, topped by special caps or stoppers and are intended to
contain chemical in liquid or powder form for laboratory and stored in cabinets.
11. Burette: It is a vertical cylindrical piece of laboratory glassware with a volumetric graduation on its full length
and a precision tap. It is used for extremely accurate addition of liquid reagent.
