BIAS
In 1995, Ecuador and Perú were entangled in a
territorial dispute. Even though war was never
officially declared, it was an armed conflict with
many people dying on both sides of the border.
Both countries claimed to be the victors and both
sides also claim that the other one started the
conflict.
If you ask someone from Ecuador what happened,
they will say they won. If you ask someone from
Perú, they will say that they were the victors.
Task:
Hand this in a separate piece of paper, typed and neatly
ordered; with every step of the process written down.
1. Write two questions about the conflict and ask both of them to a
Peruvian, and then again to someone from your country. Write down
each answer.
2. Do some research on the conflict, and compare what you read and
the answers given by the people you interviewed.
3. Draw your own conclusions.
4. Examine your own conclusions and answer this: was your own
conclusion biased? Why?
