3. INTRODUCTION
4G is the fourth generation of broadband
cellular network technology, succeeding
3G.
A 4G system must provide capabilities
defined by ITU in IMT Advanced.
The first-release Long Term Evolution
(LTE) standard (a 4G candidate system)
has been commercially deployed in
Oslo, Norway, and Sweden since from
2009.
4. •Quickly download files over a wireless network.
•Extremely high voice quality.
•Easily access Internet, IM, social networks, streaming media, video
calling.
•Higher bandwidth.
•4G is 10 times faster than 3G.
Disadvantages of 4G:
•New frequencies means new components in cell towers.
•Higher data prices for consumers.
•Consumer is forced to buy a new device to support the 4G.
•It is impossible to make your current equipment compatible with the 4G
network.
5. Comparison chart OF 3G versus 4G comparison
chart :
3G 4G
Data
Throughput
Up to 3.1Mbps with an
average speed range
between 0.5 to 1.5
Mbps
Practically speaking, 2 to
12 Mbps (Telstra in
Australia claims up to 40
Mbps) but potential
estimated at a range of 100
to 300
Peak Upload Rate 5 Mbps 500 Mbps
Switching Technique packet switching packet switching, message
switching
Network Architecture Wide Area Cell Based Integration of wireless LAN
and Wide area
Services And
Applications
CDMA 2000, UMTS,
EDGE etc
Wimax2 and LTE-Advance
Forward error
correction (FEC)
3G uses Turbo codes
for error correction.
Concatenated codes are
used for error corrections in
4G.
Peak Download Rate 100 Mbps 1 Gbps
Frequency Band 1.8 – 2.5 GHz 2 – 8 GHz

7. Conclusion
• In conclusion, it is evident that 4G technologies will expand
on web-based communications around the world.
• It is a fully IP-based network and will improve data transfer
dramatically.
• Signal disruptions will be minimal.
• Downloads will be done in a matter of seconds, faster than
ever before.
• In the near future, a 5G cell phone will be created along with
a 5G network based on 4G technologies allowing for the
world to connect limitlessly.
