Zilneon Namgyelling Primary School (ZNPS) is located in the Royal Bhutan Police compound with 830 students and 36 teachers. Most students are children of police personnel, while some come from outside. The school adopted a theme of "caring for the uncared" to help students become confident, responsible citizens by accepting others regardless of attributes. Older students were bullying younger ones, so higher classes began adopting lower classes as siblings. They share lunch together on Wednesdays to foster bonds. Review found stronger student bonds and parents also spreading attitudes of love outside school.

Caring the uncared
Zilneon Namgyelling Primary school is located with the Royal Bhutan Police (RBP) Compound with 830
and 36 teachers. Most of the students are the children of the RBP personnel while some come from
outside.
The caring of the uncared or the least cared was the theme for the design-for-change adopted by ZNPS
with the objective to groom our younger children to be confident, productive and responsible future
citizens by learning to accept others as their own members of the family irrespective of colour, gender
and family background by nurturing a culture in which the younger ones respect the elders and elders
care the younger ones as their own siblings.
FEEL
The students felt that bullying, kicking younger ones by elders, pinching, dashing, forcing younger
children to bring money to school by the elder ones and not giving due attention to weaker students to
become self confident were the orders of the day that need to change. With this kind of school
environment, going to school is often being perceived by the younger and weaker students as dreadful
place and often choosing to not to go to school for fear of being bullied by the older students. These are
some of the pressing issues the students felt require immediate change through some deliberate action.

The students felt that above issues can be addressed if some kind of new culture of care is being
introduced in the school that would inculcate a sense of respect, care, belongingness and being sensitive
and reciprocate to each other’s feelings, love and care at all times.

In order to foster deeper bound with peer, elder and younger students, the higher class students have
adopted the students of lower classes as their younger siblings. The class-VI students have adopted the
students of class-PP, the class-V students has adopted class-I students, class-IV students has adopted
class-II students and class-III students of one section has adopted the class-III students of other sections.
After the adoption of one-to-one-student has identified, the students were asked to take their lunch

2. together every Wednesdays. It was observed that lot is being shared between the students when they
share their meals and eat together.

SHARE
In the sharing stage, the DFC member students talked about the importance of the caring of younger
ones by the elders and younger ones respecting the elder ones. It is through this loving and caring
attitude that enriches the social wealth of the society in bringing lasting peace and harmony. Review of
the programme revealed that even the parents got themselves involved in spreading the attitude of love
and care outside of the school premises. The bonds among the students were also found to have grown
much stronger.
