1. Promoting British Values through our Curriculum
At Colmore we seek to teach and nurture our pupil's so that they become well rounded citizens
who recognise the importance of making a positive contribution to their school, community
and the world around them.
We have developed a set of Colmore Golden Values and Manners that underpin our school
ethos and compliment the various projects, initiatives and curriculum activities that we
offer.

The Colmore Ethos mirrors the key British Values of promoting democracy, the rule of law,
a culture of tolerance and the importance of individual liberty, respecting those with
different faiths and a respect for all.

2. Collective Worship & Assemblies
Each week we have a whole school behaviour assembly that promotes one aspect of our
Colmore Golden Values and Manners. In addition, we have weekly assembly ‘themes’ and a
‘thought for the week.’ These themes are explored in Lower and Upper School Assemblies
and in individual classes.

 Each class hold annual elections (where pupils give speeches and presentations) for
‘Pupil Voice’ representatives and ‘House Captains’
 Creation and development of ‘Class Rules’
 Representatives for school sports and talent events are selected democratically
 Year 6 - RE topic ‘Living without Rules’ explores the idea of democratically elected leaders

3.  Year 6 –‘ Team Building’ in PE focusses on following and respecting rules

 Year 4 – Unit of work on ‘Telling the Truth’ promotes honesty

 Reinforcement of school rules and school ethos through whole school assemblies

 All year groups through RE lessons and Collective Worship themes
 Within school, pupils are actively encouraged to make choices, knowing that they are
in a safe and supportive environment
 Pupils are encouraged to know, understand and exercise their rights and personal
freedoms and are advised how to exercise these safely, for example through our E-Safety
and PSHE lessons
 Class Rules, School Values and Ethos actively promote respecting others and
tolerance of differences
 The school offers numerous extra-curricular clubs and opportunities and pupils are
given the freedom to make choices regarding participation
 All year groups take an active part in ‘Black History Week’
 Year 4 – English Biography topics look at the lives of Gandhi, Martin Luther King,
Harriet Tubman and Rosa Parks
 Year 3 – Geography topics compare the living conditions of rich and poor across the
world and promote the importance of fair trade

 The core value of ‘Respect’ is actively promoted and modelled by all staff and forms
the basis for our behaviour policy
