This document discusses methods for improving denture foundations for patients who are edentulous. It describes non-surgical preprosthetic methods such as managing traumatized tissues through temporary soft liners and occlusal correction. It also outlines surgical preprosthetic methods which include vestibuloplasty and ridge augmentation to enlarge denture-bearing areas, as well as using dental implants to replace tooth roots. Conditions that can preclude optimal prosthetic function like hyperplastic ridges or frenular attachments are also mentioned.
