The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

Two main ideas: Making connections Moving from a model of “Rotary speaks, everyone listens” to Everyone speaks; everyone listens; a conversation. The presentation will tell several stories of Rotarians making connections. These pictures are placeholders from Alison’s actual Rotarian connections (and they are all American) – but we are replacing them with photos of people from around the world. As you go through the presentation, you will see two people “pop out” as we tell the story of how they will benefit from one of the specific platforms described here: Member Profiles, Idea Starter, App Store. All 6 connect their stories to Rotary Showcase. For example: In this mix of Rotarians, two have just been nominated (need correct word) as DGN and are eager to begin connecting with other incoming and past governors to prepare for their role; two connect over common interests in a particular type of service project; two connect when one finds the other’s “app” in the app store.
Before we discuss the specific initiatives that make up the SBS let me paint a picture for you of what these new platforms will do for Rotary. This fish tank shows fish swimming among their own kind.
In this fish tank, the walls separating the fish have been removed and they all swim together.
President Bannerjee attended Barry’s institute in Denmark and after listening to a presentation by Mario & Stephanie. President Banerjee listened to Rotarians asking about social media (we want to emphasize listening so are thinking about replacing the lightbulb with an ear…TBD) Committee was formed, analyzed options, selected a social business strategy. Several initiatives going on in parallel that came to very similar conclusions – brand revitalization, digital strategy evaluation (ROSE), and this committee. Converged
adopts the following statement as RI’s social business strategy If we do need to display the statement, need it to be visually appealing. Do we need to display/read it?
Conceptual slide – the graphics team is working on a better visual representation of this idea We may have an additional slide “what this is not” – it is not about how Rotarians can use Facebook or LinkedIn or Twitter (there are other workshops on those topics). This is about platforms developed for Rotarians to encourage connections and conversation among Rotarians and between Rotarians and interested partners. Before – one way conversation. Now – Rotarians connect, collaborate with each other and the world. Increasing their capabilities to lead.
Allow members who opt-in to develop robust personal profiles Establish public and private online communities to engage members and potential members Provide a common calendar comprehensive individual profiles with the ability to search attributes and interests ability to create a network of contacts based upon user needs capability to contact others through the platform creation of a comprehensive Rotary calendar containing local events ability to create private groups based on Rotary business needs implementation of an idea/project matching platform implementation of a “hub” where Rotary could promote and enhance authorized Rotarian-created tools The Member Profiles (and CMS) projects are essentially software, or tool-selection projects. We have a vision and are just beginning to define the parameters of the project including: Identifying a preliminary list of vendors Identifying stakeholders, both in the secretariat and among Rotarians Creating an initial list of requirements
I am thinking that this slide might be best at the end of the presentation rather than beginning. We don’t want to detract from the main points of the SBS initiatives, and discussing Rotary.org or other projects at the start might raise questions about those and take people’s attention in that direction. Also, if it is at the end maybe KB can present it – it might make the most sense coming from her since she is staff who has the perspective of being in the trenches of everything going on at the Secretariat (so it could be framed that way.) Remind SPC of ROSE and briefly explain the Digital Experience Program Current website all things to all people Primary audience internal, the rotary family ROSE: rotary.org move from a newsroom to a catalyst Explain Member Profiles (ROSE, S&G, Committee to Dev Soc Net all came to similar conclusions re: member profiles/user experience Public/Private spaces Three initiatives underway that will provide functionality to authenticated users: Idea Platform, Rotary Showcase, App Store
This slide will change to have the Rotarians start further away and meet in the middle These Rotarians are from opposite sides of the world. ____ is a Rotarian from ___, and has been in Rotary twenty years. ___ is a Rotarian from ___ and is entering her fifth year of membership. Despite their differences in age, background, and years of Rotary membership, they have a common passion for ____, and a desire to begin a project in that area.
This is a mock up of the idea platform in development – will replace with screen showing non-service project idea and removing the Nike ad. To view some of the “ideas” for the idea platform, use this link (not for general distribution) http://smlfrtn.com/clients/avectra/ideastarter/projecthome.php. Any authenticated user (Rotarian, spouse, Rotaractor) can post a project. Interface will be in 9 languages, but posts will be in the language of the poster.
The many ways that people can contribute to an idea: money, time, resources, expertise Members of the Rotary family post ideas; contributors can be within or out of the Rotary family
Idea Platform – Support & Strengthen Clubs, replaces ProjectLink
Let’s go back to two Rotarians who are club presidents in the same district. They are both trying to help their club determine its online presence for the next few years, especially its club website. The club wants to purchase a ready made solution that is easy for many different club members to help maintain. (Name), the other club president, has a similar situation. Their club has been with a website management company but has had mixed feelings about the quality of the site and ease of use. They are exploring new solutions, but the CP isn’t sure where to turn to find more information, especially from fellow Rotarians. Even though these two club presidents are in the same district, and have even met before, they currently have no way of knowing that they are both tackling similar issues.
General explanation of what an app store is, using screenshots from android or apple store.
Not sure if we’ll use the Android store…especially because our reviews aren’t so great…better reviews in the itunes app store I think. Another feature of an app store is user reviews. Some of you may have the Rotary Club Locator app on your iphone or android. This is the listing of our Club Locator App in the Android app store, along with the reviews it has received by users.
Another reason why we need an app store is that Rotarians need each others’ help in finding the tools they need, and sometimes in selecting from a few different options to meet their needs. Example: ClubRunner vs. DacDB.
Idea Platform – Support & Strengthen Clubs, replaces ProjectLink’s project Support and Strengthen Clubs Enhance Public Image and Awareness Focus and increase humanitarian service
Rotary Showcase allows any authenticated member of the Rotary family to post information about a service project with pictures, video and participating clubs. While Rotary Showcase will reside on rotary.org, users will also have the option to update their Facebook status with their Rotary Showcase projects. This is the landing page on Rotary.org This page has: Featured projects: Staff will review and select completed projects to feature at the top of the page – but any member of the Rotary family can post any project; RI approval is not required.
Same page, below the Showcase Highlights: A list of projects showing the primary project photo. If you mouse over a photo, you will get a brief description of the project. Projects can be filtered by category (the 6 areas of focus, polio, new generations, vocational service or other), country, foundation, status (open/closed) The Impact Tracker will eventually be dynamic, calculating the aggregate impact of money raised, number of volunteers and volunteer hours and the estimated value of in-kind donations
If the user has a Facebook account and gives permission, then project updates will be posted to Facebook status: When project is first posted When any updates are made, e.g. add photos or video, member joins a project, impact data is added
Idea Platform – Support & Strengthen Clubs, replaces ProjectLink’s project Support and Strengthen Clubs Enhance Public Image and Awareness Focus and increase humanitarian service
The RI St plan is comprised of three strategic priorities supported by 16 goals. The SBS is aligned with all of the 16 goals, but there are a few in particular where the SBS will be particularly valuable. Foster club - Ability to connect and share ideas more easily will result in increased innovation amongst Rotary clubs. Encourage clubs to - It will become easier to see service projects of RCs around the world, to get ideas and inspire clubs to increase the service that their club is involved with. Improve member recruitment – the accomplishments of Rotary, the passion and ingenuity of its members will be center stage with the SBS. Seeing all Rotary is and has to offer, Rotary sells itself.

Lead to better engagement – people will connect better because they will be able to share ideas, projects, guide each other…. Not sure if we’ll have a picture here but I left it in as a place holder. The concept is to present these tools as the many ways that we facilitate connections – which can result in a diverse group of Rotarians coming together for a service project. The promise: We’re innovators, problem solvers, entrepreneurs and above all leaders.
