The Green Deserts project aimed to address desertification in abandoned areas of Spain through planting saplings using the Groasis Waterboxx technique. The project spanned 55,000 saplings across 65 hectares in 5 regions varying in climate and conditions. Early results found the Waterboxx improved survival rates but other factors like sapling quality and maintenance also influenced outcomes. The project engaged local communities and raised awareness of desertification issues. It has now led to proposals for new LIFE projects continuing reforestation and carbon credit programs.
