This document defines and provides examples of a narrative text. It explains that a narrative text is an imaginative story meant to entertain people. The generic structure of a narrative text includes an orientation where characters are introduced, a complication where problems develop in the story, and a resolution where the problems are solved, with an optional coda. Characteristics of narrative texts include using past tense, adverbs of time, time conjunctions, specific characters, action verbs, and direct speech. An example narrative text is then provided about spending a holiday in the city of Jogjakarta, Indonesia.
