Yunnan Water Museum project is planned water museum in
Yunnan province of China. But as a part of the project, Dianchi
Lake Water Museum has been constructed in 2014 in Kunming
University campus and opened to public. In the next stage, a
larger water museum Yunnan Water Museum is planned for
construction.
Dianchi Lake Water Museum
Funded by the Centre Governmental Financial Support Project
and Kunming University, Dianchi Lake Water Museum was
constructed and open to the public in 2014.
The museum use photos, video, digital tools and physicals to
exhibiting the water history and current situation of Lake
Dianchi, the sixth large fresh water lake in China.

3. Exhibition
• The exhibition
is consisted
with a main
hall(600m2)
and six branch
halls, a digital
information
place, and six
local open air
places along
the Lake
Dianchi basin.
4. Main activities are for water
education to the university
student and the citizen to get
water knowledge usually,
and hold regularly water
lectures, symposium, etc.
The museum has regular
communication with the
local governments and
institutions for information
exchange and educations

6. Weakness
Current Dian Chi Lake Water Museum is still
limited for its space of exhibition to include more
exhibiting contents.
- Poor communication activities with the broad
society due to its location in the university campus.
-Coming Yunnan Water Museum still lack of
enough funding to get its constructional goals.
-challenges for its beginning of construction, the
design, staff training, sustainable funding, and
how to establish the cooperation with other
museums, social organizations, etc.

7. Threats
- current Dianchi Lake Water Museum limited in
exhibition space.
-case in China, there is no water museum network to
working in communication, promote the improvement of
the exhibition, training and other activities among the
museums.
-how to capture the interesting of the public is a problem.
Currently poor interesting of the public is a challenge for
water museum in China.
Improvement
--establish broad cooperation with other water
museums, join the global water museum network.
--exchange exhibitions with other water museums.
--increasing the visibility to the public by join more social
