Todd Deshane presented research on benchmarking the performance, isolation, and scalability of Xen and KVM virtualization systems. Key findings included Xen having similar CPU performance to KVM but better kernel compile times, KVM having better disk I/O and network sender performance, and Xen showing better isolation properties but KVM having better scalability when running multiple Apache compiler guests. Areas for further work include expanding tests across more virtualization technologies and configurations and increasing automation of benchmarking processes.
