This document provides instructions and assessment criteria for a letter writing assignment. Students will write a letter from different perspectives, such as a soldier or someone from the past writing to the future. Their letter will be evaluated based on how well they incorporate relevant course topics, facts, ideas, and themes into their letter in an authentic voice. A rubric is provided to assess the inclusion of accurate facts, the realistic nature of the voice, and proper use of details, with higher scores given to letters that have an authentic voice and accurately include all relevant information from class discussions.
