The Jigsaw Classroom Is A Cooperative Learning Teaching
The jigsaw classroom is a cooperative learning teaching method used in school systems around the
United States. Its success found in the classroom with student participation has not gone unnoticed
and more and more schools have started to use this style of teaching. Similar to a jigsaw puzzle, the
jigsaw classroom works to connect students. Each student is an important piece to the learning
process and assigned a job to help create a final product. Due to the fact all students parts are so
essential, each student feels important, understands they need to complete their specific task or else
they will disappoint their peers who are working with them. It is simple things like that which make

Instead of quitting on what they had done, and or just resegragating all the population.
Professor Aronson stepped forward and used his position of power to try and fix what was going
on and help students get along. Professor Aronson decided that the best thing for him to do is
observe the school and sit in on classes so that he could try and understand what was causing the
tension between students. After observing the confrontations and how classes were being
conducted, he concluded that the competitive nature of the students and their want to be the best
one in each class was what was fueling the hostility. He saw that students worked by themselves
and the teachers were creating an atmosphere that allowed them to compete for the top grade. The
new goal of the professor was to switch the focus in the classroom from competition to
cooperation. Aronson came up with the idea to divide students into small groups, mixing each
group based on their race, ethnicity, gender, and made them responsible for a specific portion of
each lesson. This change in teaching method forced the quiet and shy students to no longer be able
to hide in their seats, the outspoken kids, or leaders would have to hear what their classmate had to
say. Due to the fact students were having to cooperate with one another and all give input, the
competitiveness of the classroom was lessened. The students needed to start supporting

Forms Of Lupus
There are five forms of lupus; systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), subacute cutaneous lupus
erythematosus, neonatal lupus, drug induced lupus, and discoid lupus erythematosus. There are at
least 5 million people worldwide that are living with some form of lupus, according to the Lupus
Foundation of America. SLE often called The Cruel Mystery can harm your skin, joints, kidneys
and brain; and is fatal in some cases. There is no cure for lupus, but treatments reduce the severity
of the symptoms. Flares and remissions of lupus can happen at any time. The exact cause of all
forms of lupus is unknown, but there are a few factors that may play a role. Environmental factors

As a victim of lupus nephritis, I have found myself taking more medications just to treat side
effects from other medications. Most doctors will discuss options for treating side effects that
can easily cause a burden in the patient s life. For example, long term use of corticosteroids can
increase your risk of infections, osteoporosis, and avascular necrosis. In most cases, there are
ways to treat the disease and its symptoms, but some side effects just have to be dealt with. Long
term, most patients can live a normal and healthy life with the help of daily medications.
Periodical checkups are recommended even for patients with the mildest form of lupus nephritis.

How Does Pip Develop Throughout The Novel
What influences shape the character of young Pip in Great Expectations? Great Expectations , by
Charles Dickens, is an enthralling tale of love and fortune. The story is set in the period of
Dickens childhood, from 1810 to approximately 1830, and it is likely that memories of his own
youth inspired Dickens to write the novel. The main character, Pip, is a gentle and humble boy
whose character and personality undergo major transformations throughout the novel. He is
influenced by many characters, in particular Estella, the hard hearted girl from Satis House, and
Magwitch, the convict from the marshes. From the first page of the novel, Pip is introduced as an

relationship with Pip. Pip depicts him as a mild, good natured, sweet tempered, easy going,
foolish, dear fellow and because of this, and also the fact that they are the only males in the
household, Pip finds him easy to get along with. This can be seen when Joe covers for Pip when
he is late home or when he says ever the best of friends; an t us Pip? Joe is Pip s first and closest
friend who comforts the boy in hard times. However, to Pip, Joe is not just a companion but also
in some ways a paternal and even a maternal figure. Their relationship means that Pip is able to

his love. Pip loves Joe for what he is and in his childhood dreams of becoming Joe s apprentice to
become a blacksmith. However, Pip s relationship with Joe begins to change after Pip pays his
frequent visits to Satis House. Pip begins to feel ashamed of Joe because he is illiterate and the
young boy feels that becoming a blacksmith is not the right choice to make. Dickens writes that

The Gettysburg Address
Introduction
Gettysburg Address is one of the important dictations of values that provided much needed direction
for the future leadership of the United States. It shaped the societal values and beliefs of the
country. This assertion can be affirmed with the speech s enduring presence in the US culture.
Notwithstanding its noticeable place cut into stone units on the south divider of the Lincoln
Memorial in Washington, D.C., the Gettysburg Addressis every now and again pointed to in works
of popular culture. With the understood motive that contemporary crowds can be acquainted with
Lincoln s expressions.

The Text of the Gettysburg Address
Soon after Everett s overall appropriated comments, Lincoln gave his address that lasted only a
couple of minutes. In this short time, he used ten sentences to aptly summarize the war and the way
ahead for the United States.
The five known composition copies of the Gettysburg Address are named for the individuals who
obtained it from Lincoln. Lincoln provides a copy to his private secretaries, John Hay and John
Nicolay. Both of the aforementioned copies were composed around the time of his November 19
address, while the other three duplicates of the speech, the Bliss, Bancroft, and Everett duplicates,
and were composed by President Lincoln for philanthropic purposes. These copies were sent well
later to November 19, the actual date of the famous address. Since then these copies have ended up
being the standard content of Lincoln s Gettysburg Address (LoC, 2012).
Both the Nicolay and Hay duplicates of the Address are inside the Library of Congress. It is
enclosed in exceptionally manufactured, temperature regulated; argon gas filled and sealed
containers. The idea is to ensure that the original copy is safe from gradual continued deterioration
and oxidation (LoC, 2012).

The Inevitability Of Interdependence In Interpersonal...
As long as there exists a relationship between two people, which tend to be closer, chances of
conflict occurrence are enhanced; hence the inevitability of conflict principle as mentioned by Cahn
and Abigail (2014). From the case above, is has been depicted that interpersonal conflicts arise
among individuals who are important to each other, and are to continue being together in various
contexts, hence a sense of interdependence (Cahn Abigail, 2014). There is an automatic mother
child interdependence in one way, or another hence conflictis inevitable. This inevitability is also
portrayed by Hertz (2015) while elaborating on conflict managementwith patients. It is the
prolonged relationship between the patient and the doctor that increases the chances conflict
occurrence. Both of them are important to one another in that the patient needs to be well while the
doctor wants to gain from the patient after offering the treatment services, hence the
interdependence. Canary (2013) has also highlighted the interdependence concept as a key initiator
of conflict among family members. According to him, the interdependence creates the family
system. He has also expressed the fact that positive behaviour, between family members, in conflict
interaction is a key propeller of conflict management. This applies to the case above, in that the
calm response to the mother challenged her and provoked resolution in her, about her prior
behaviour.

Everything Pond Water
2
Introduction
Humans are surrounded by thousands of bodies of water throughout the world. What makes a lake
differ from an ocean? Or what makes a pond different from a lake? A pond is a body of standing
water either natural or man made, that is usually smaller than a lake. Ponds contain amazing
biodiversity, providing an environment for birds, fish, amphibians, alages, protists, and many many
more organisms. A pondis normally much shallower than a lake, and sometimes plants roots can
grow all the way to the bottom of the pond because the suns rays can penetrate to the bottom of the
pond. It is very hard to determine the difference between a pond and a lake, most differences occur

Alages seemed to be more prominent at the bottom of the pond water sample. Blue green algae can
grow without nitrogen and will soon dominate the pond. (3) While looking at blue green algae
when looking under the microscope, it was surprising at how little quantity there was. Expecting
to find more algae at the other levels, samples of all three layers of the pond water; top, middle,
and bottom were taken. Each layer contained nearly the same amount of algae. Expecting to find
many protists near the bottom, numerous samples at that layer were taken, only to find them
dominated by blue green algae. This find was not expected. The lack of Protist activity could be
due to the temperature of the water and season when the pond water sample was collected. The
colder temperatures in winter, along with reduced light, can lead to less and slower Protist
activity. Looking at the hypothesis, it was unclear to the number of algae seen as the pH changed.
Algae numbers seemed to be consistent regardless of the pH, or the layer of water which the
sample was taken. For future experiments, it would be helpful if there was alage measurements as
far as quantity of algae. Since the pH remained consistent and did not fluctuate, there was no way of
determining the alages numbers. Proper measurements are crucial when trying to determine the
legitimacy of a hypothesis.

Stereotypes Of Beer In Australia
Beer is the number one most popular alcoholic beverage in the world, dating back to 2050bc beer
was first brewed in a Sumerian city of Iraq, this was called Alulueer meaning best beer. In the
current times we live in not too many don t know the main Australian beers such as fosters, victoria
bitter and 4X gold, these bring upon the stereotypes of Australians being loud and heavy drinkers.
Australians have had beerin trade and for personal use since the moment the settlers turned up in
Australia in 1788. Captain cook brought beer on his ship The Endeavor as a matter of preserving

With the number of alcohol brands in the world it is difficult for anyone to come to a full decision
on the best beer, these are the 5 most high earning companies of the beer franchise.
There are many by products of beer, the most well known being Ale , lager and light beer, here are
all the different types of beer assorted by color , EBC (European Brewing Convention) and SRM

The Difference between the brewing method that turns regular beer into light beer is, a beer of
354ml has 150 calories compared to a light beer which only has 110 calories, most of these
calories come from the alcohol but the rest comes from carbohydrates within the beer.
Many wonder which is healthier heavy or light beer, as stated above light beer has less calories,
but within that there is less alcohol, which gives the consumer less of a buzz causing the effect of
multiple beers being drank which would of made heavy beers the better choice if your desire is to
get intoxicated and not just have a couple after work for

The Prediction Of Fullerene Structure
Fullerene was first recorded in a Japanese article, Kagaku, written by Eiji Osawa in 1970 which
stated the prediction on the existence of C60 compound [1]. In the following year, a conjecture on
the stability of C60 was established by Osawa and Yoshida where the aromatic characteristic of
C60 was described further. The stability was further better explained when the HГјckel s calculation
method was applied and introduced to the icosahedron structure of C60 by Bochvar and Gal pern
[2]. The prediction of fullerenestructure was discussed based on graphiteballoon speculation made
by David Jones using pseudonym of Daedalus in a journal, The Scientist [3]. This speculation was
essentially describing the gas phase carboncluster in the form of geodesic cages which is applied to
giant fullerenes compound [2].
Fullerenes can be described as closely packed carbon cages hold in rings of, most commonly,
hexagons and pentagons with sp2 hydridised carbons. In some larger structure with more than 100
carbons, heptagonal rings may present. A large numbered fullerene will require larger cage to
obtain the most least steric angle between the bonds and the structure might have a surface of
concaved [4]. Figure 1 and Figure 2 show the cage structures of fullerenes C60 and C70. Both of
these fullerenes are the most stable fullerene with more planar and larger nearly spherical structure
and have higher thermodynamic stability with positive enthalpy change of formation, ∆H_f [4].

Favorable liquidity ratios are critical to a company and its creditors within a business or
industry that does not provide a steady and predictable cash flow. They are also a key predictor
of a company s ability to make timely payments to creditors and to continue to meet obligations
to lenders when faced with an unforeseen event. The inventory turnover ratio is an efficiency
ratio that shows how effectively inventory is managed by comparing cost of goods sold with
average inventory for a period. This measures how many times average inventory is turned or
sold during a period. The inventory turnover ratio for Woolworths is 10, which is comparable to
the baseline of 10. The Receivable Turnover Ratio measures how many times a business can turn
its accounts receivable into cash during a period. In other words, the accounts receivable
turnover ratio measures how many times a business can collect its average accounts receivable
during the year. From a 5 yr. standpoint, Woolworths collects its receivables every 20 days where
the baseline is a month. Higher efficiency is favorable from a cash flow standpoint as well. If a

College Athletes Should Get Paid Analysis
1.Introduction
Throughout my high school athletic career, playing both football and running cross country, i ve
witnessed multiple teammates of mine receive scholarships to continue their athletic and academic
careers at a university. However due to the disproportionate number of hours spent on the sport
rather than academics without receiving compensation is causing many high school athletes to turn
down athletic scholarships and instead begin to focus on their academic futures.
In December 2012 I had the pleasure of accompanying the Baylor Bears football team on a flight
after their 49 26 win against UCLA in the Holiday Bowl in San Diego California, nearly the entire
flight was comprised of football players and personnel, with coaches and starters sitting first
class, seniors behind them and so on. I was seated in the very last row next to then redshirt
freshman quarterback Seth Russell who has since become a star at Baylor. He and I began
discussing how great life of a college athlete was and he explained to me that the scholarship he
received, along with the free room and board was his compensation and that the countless practice
hours that appear to subtract time that could be used studying would equate hours of work
necessary to cover the expenses of attending the university. However when you take into account

The Mine Resistant Ambush Protective
The Mine Resistant Ambush Protective (MRAP) program featured remarkable speed of
development and production at the time the United States shifted its counterinsurgency strategy in
Iraq. The controversy over the MRAP program revolved around the three year delay from when
the field initially identified its need until its production. This paper asserts that while MRAP
development and production speed was impressive, the slow reaction to the enemy s Improvised
Explosive Device(IED) capability and the lack of doctrine and concept development led to delay.
To support this position, this essay describes the strategic environment with its competing efforts,
and it compares the MRAP acquisition to normal Major Defense Acquisition Programs (MDAP).
Furthermore, it recommends rapid acquisition of other MDAPs of equivalent strategic importance
and urgency, and it highlights the key roles of senior leaders, the Services and the CCMDs within
the MRAP acquisition process. The strategic environment of the MRAP program spanned from
2003 through 2008. It began when General Abizaid, Commander of U.S. Central Command,
declared that IEDs were the No. 1 threat. This declaration from one Combatant Commander
(CCDR) was far short of the fundamentals required to develop a joint concept and its subsequent
solutions. Although MRAPs seemingly provided a solution to an enemy capability, there was no
joint concept that was idea focused, collaboratively developed and assessed, or rigorously evaluated.

Marge Piercy s Poem A Work Of Artifice
A Work of Artifice Women have historically been mistreated and considered the weaker gender ,
while men are seen as the dominant gender. Feminism isn t about making women stronger.
Women are already strong. It s about changing the way the world perceives that strength. G.D
Anderson. This quote from G.D Anderson corresponds to Marge Piercy s poem A Work of
Artifice . A Work of Artifice is an allegory published in 1999. The speaker is a feminist and the
poem is written in third person. The poem sets a sarcastic tone while talking about the
oppression of women and how women suffer in society. Piercy uses poetic devices such as
metaphors, diction and allusions to show how society subjugates women to fit the accepted idea
of beauty. Throughout A Work of Artifice , an extended metaphor of a Bonsai Tree is used. The
Bonsai tree represents a women. A gardener is also used to represent a man and/or society. The

Diction is used very early in A work of ARTIFICE , the word artifice is a relevant example of the
use of diction. When the reader first sees the word art in artifice, an image of beauty arouses the
mind. However, artifice has nothing to do with beauty , it actually means to deceive others. This
is seen in the poem as the bonsai tree or the women is being oppressed to fit the ideal image of
beauty in society. Another relevant example of the use of diction is the word pruned . Pruned is
often associated with cutting down a tree or plant to make it look more attractive . In the poem the
gardener pruned the bonsai tree. Through this , the speaker shows how society suppresses women
from reaching their full protein to fit their stereotype and remain attractive . The use of diction
compliments the extended metaphor and helps show how society subjugates

How Did Roman Roads Build Bridges
Roman Roads and Bridges Introduction
The Roman road system, an intricate network of major as well as minor roads, spanned nearly
50,000 miles, allowed for quick, easy travel and military advantages, and served as a link
between many different centers of population in the Roman Empire. At first, the Romans
developed roads for military use only, utilizing them to gather troops quickly and transport
resources to certain places during wars. Soldiers were even charged with the task of constructing
roads. Eventually, civilians replaced them in this duty and even began using the roads as a means
of travel from one place to another. Sometimes roads needed to traverse rivers and other types of
gaps in the land. It was at these obstacles that Romans ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Due to the costliness of paving a road its entire length, not all Roman roads had completely paved
surfaces. Some surfaces comprised dirt and others were made of gravel. Many roads even had
more than one surface. An example of this is the Via Appia which was not paved the entire way.
Fun Fact! Did you know that paving stones were preferred because of their durability, and the
Romans had two different methods of paving a road? The first method involved shaping the paving
stones into polygons and connecting them together. In the second method, the Romans formed
rectangles out of the stones and joined them at right angles.
Significant Aspects and Features of the Roman Roads
Camber: The camber was the slightly raised center of the road. This made the road useful during
rain and other kinds of weather because it caused water to flow off of the surface and into the
drainage ditches on the sides. As a result, the roads were easily maintained.
Artificial Ruts: Roads were fitted with grooves on their surfaces in order to steer carts in
precipitous and slippery areas.
Umbones: Umbones were curbstones that lay on either side of the

Semiotic Deconstruction Analysis Of Calvin Klein Jeans

However prior to this it is important to discuss the fact that we are now living in an era of an
attention economy. In today s age, consumers are overwhelmed by the paradox of choice so many
choices to make, and no easy way to distinguish among the offerings (Davenport, Harris 2009).
Furthermore, since consumers are bombarded with advert offering its important to avail of
whatever attention a brand gets. Thus an attention economy is an approach of management that
treat human attention as scare resources and applies an economic theory to make use of that
attention; hence the ability of the brand to channel attention creates great value. A semiotic
description is consequently a vital means by which we might begin to understand how an image
captivates our imaginations. The founder of modern linguistics, Ferdinand de Saussure, argued that
at one point in time language would be part of a comprehensive science of signs, which would
study the production of meaning (Culler, 2001). In other words, the appeal of images comes
through the stories or meanings that are being depicted, which eventually leads to an emotion or
experience being felt by people in an attention economy. To greater understand a semiotic analysis

Persuasive Essay On Arts Education
On May 23, 2017, the president s educational budget was publicly released. It gave the people of
America a brutal outlook of what the future will hold for kids attending public education. Aside
from the many million dollar budget cuts, the new proposal would leave a record of 1.6 million
students without an after school program, most programs of which were centered around the arts.
President Trump and the secretary of education, Betsy DeVos, shaped a finance plan that would cut
approximately $27 million from arts education programs (Langsam, 11). DeVos s validation
procedure sparked the controversial likelihood of there being support for bills, policies, and other
legislation that would prove to be destructive to arts education. The Every Student Succeeds Act, or
the ESSA, ensures that every child receives both a beneficial and versatile education. The ESSA
not only guarantees the inclusion of challenging and progressive arts instruction for pre
kindergarten through 12th grade, but it also assures that the arts is integrated within general
scholastic subjects. If the country were to stray away from the policy in place, the ESSA, education
for kids would be centered around privatizing schools or the creation of a voucher system. This in
turn would impend the tools and funding needed to guarantee equity for arts education in America.
With the massive financial cut in mind, arts companies and organizations should be required to aid
schools in maintaining arts education in

Consumer Discrimination And Sexual Orientation Based...
Earlier this year, the concepts of consumer discrimination and sexual orientation based
discrimination have come to a forefront in American politics and should be dealt with through
federal legislation (Payne, 2015). Two arguments which can be used to argue on the side of
discrimination are the First Amendment used in tandem with corporate personhood and the First
Amendment used on its own. I argue, however, that corporate personhood is not a legitimate
argument nor is the First Amendment grounds for an individual to discriminate against another.
Another defense of discrimination against consumers is the first section of the Thirteenth
Amendment. The elimination and prevention of the entirety of such discrimination could be
carried out through enacting a single two part law. Two defenses of discrimination include a
combination of the First Amendment with each current precedent regarding corporations and of its
own accord. Current precedent is the concept of corporate personhood wherein a corporation is
treated as a person albeit with controversy regarding their treatment (Ripken, 2010). When this
precedent is used in tandem with the provision that the free exercise of religion shall not be
prohibited in the First Amendment, this makes a case that the government may not prohibit a
corporation from exercising a religion (U.S. Const. amend. XIX). The other possible argument
regarding the First Amendment is the individual s right to exercise their religion. Each of these

Analysis Of Understanding Sam Shepard
Sam Shepard is widely recognized as one of the most celebrated dramatists in American literature.
Characterized by stylized, complex language, lyrical and elaborate dialogue with very little context

continuous search for conclusions to satisfy (Author Last name for Understanding Sam Shepard, 1).
The effect of his surreal techniques, open ended structure (where anything can happen) and
exploration of complex worlds and characters makes him one of America s most creative,

does not mistake them by their appearance, as he mistakes them based on their function in the
creative process. One thing to note is that Saul Kimmer and the opportunity he represents is the
catalyst for this transformation between Austin and Lee. Thinking about the beginning of this story,
Austin was a confident individual and somewhat accomplished. However, when Kimmer agrees to
produce Lee s projects instead of Austin s, an inward conflict is created. Austin completely loses
that sense of superiority he once showed. We can see Austin s transformation as he loses that
connection he had with his inner self. Austin seems to doubt his abilities when he says, There is
nothing real down here, least of all me (p. 902) After Austin s transformation begins, we see him
searching for his identity as he repeats the personal pronoun I repeatedly

Analysis Of Blood In The Hills
Based off glancing at the title alone, the reader is immediately aware of what to expect upon
opening the publication. Blood in the Hills: The Story of Khe Sahn, the Most Savage Fight of
the Vietnam War, written by Robert Maras, with the assistance of Charles W. Sasser, tells the
story of Maras, a Vietnam veteran, and his experiences during the war. From his combat landing
on Red Beach, to his departure from the Demilitarized Zone, also known as the DMZ, Robert
Maras describes in great detail the joys and sorrows of his time in Vietnam. The book also exhibits
the development of the average Marine, and the mental and physical toll the fighting at Khe Sanh
takes on each individual. Throughout the memoir, the warrior creed of Semper Fidelis is
repeated an abundance of times, meaning always faithful, and symbolizing the US Marine Corps
determination to fight for their beloved country (Maras 3). This saying was especially influential
during the times Bob Maras was subjected to viewing his comrades perish before him, as he
could only hope he would survive the countless battles in the jungle terrain of Khe Sanh. Blood in
the Hills is a powerful read for those engrossed with not only the corporeal aspect of war, but
fascinated in learning about warfare from a psychological perspective.
Critically speaking, the authors are somewhat qualified to discuss the topic at hand, but Maras, the
protagonist, is by no means a professional historian on the Vietnam War. In fact, the same

How Did King Henry Viii Change Over Time
481 years ago change was stirring in the court of King Henry the Eighth and The Roman
Catholic Church, this was no ordinary change though this kind of change is the kind that
changed religious history. Leading up the English reformation King Henry was married to
Catherine of Aragon and had many attempts at giving birth to a male heir as a result of this King
Henry began to tire of this married and looked elsewhere to Anne Boleyn and became what
historians refer to as infatuated with her, wanting an annulment Henry asked the Pope at the
time Clement VII to grant him one and utilized his knowledge of the Old Testament to give
reason to his request stating that Leviticus 20:16 said If a man shall take his brother s wife, it is
an impurity; he hath uncovered his brother s nakedness; they shall be childless Henry also
referred to his marriage with Catherine as blighted in the eyes of God However the pope did not
grant one because it goes against the Catholic faith, one underling reason is the fact that one of the
most powerful monarchs in Europe was Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor who s kingdom spanned
over Spain, Germany and Italy this accumulated to nearly 4 million square kilometers in land.
Charles was the nephew of Catherine and if an annulment was to occur it was likely that Charles
would take it to offence causing the Western Catholic

Bubonic Plague Research Paper
Bubonic plague is an infectious disease that is spread by the bacteria Yersinia pestis. These
bacteria remain in a dormant state primarily in a rat flea s foregut. Once the flea has bitten a
victim it regurgitates the contents in its foregut into the bite location. Once the bacterium has
entered into a mammal s warm body it begins to reproduce and spread throughout the mammal s
body. The reproduction of this bacterium creates large painful swollen lymph nodes which are
called buboes. Once these buboes get large enough they begin to ooze infected body fluid so that
any contact between an infected person and a healthy person will facilitate the spread of this
disease. (The Mayo Clinic Staff, 2012)

(The Mayo Clinic Staff, 2012)
It was believed in the middle ages that this disease was caused by poor hygiene, bad eating
habits, corrupted humid air, and a lack of rest. Once a person was thought to be infected the
doctors would move them to a non infected area thinking that this would heal the persons illness
instead this transported the disease even further than normal. In modern times we have made leaps
and bounds to control this illness. One of the main problems of the plague is that it is not treatable
until the victim gets tested and confirmed that the plague is the illness. Once that is done they will
start receiving high doxycycline doses and many other types of antibiotics. The mortality rate for
someone that is not treated is 50 90% compared to treated cases of 1 15%.
The bubonic plague has been around for almost two thousand years. In most early cases the
plague was spread from China along the Silk Road. The Silk Road was the over land trade route
from the orient that silk, spices, and other trade able goods from the east to western Europe. In
most cases rats carrying the Oriental Rat Flea or another animal carrying the flea would move to a
new location. Once that animal died the flea would move to another host which could be a human.
Once bitten by the flea a bubo begins to form when the bubo begins to ooze fluid the illness can
then be passed through touch. As stated above in the Middle

Descriptive Essay For Christmas
December is much less a month and more so an extended holiday, for the entire month is time to
prepare for Christmas. Everything in the stores, on the TV, on the radio, and in everyone s houses
revolves around the holiday. Christmas is a time to celebrate with music, festivities, and food, or
should I say Christmas desserts. I love the sugary sweets that make my mouth water all year round
until finally the month comes to bake and eat the variety of treats. Oreo balls, peanut butterballs,
chocolate covered pretzels, fudge, caramels, and all the other creative ways to combine the most
unhealthy ingredients complete the holiday season, yet my favorite dessert is a classic Christmas
sugar cookie, a soft star shaped cookie layered with sweet yellow frosting and dipped in a chilled
glass of milk.
The second weekend in December is always cookie making weekend at Grandma s. Traditionally,
we grandkids spend the night on Saturday to help her bake the sugar cookies; however, she has
already made two batches during the day, so we help her with the third batch. First, we gather all
the ingredients; two cups of butter, two cups of sugar, four eggs, two tablespoons of milk, six
cups of flour, and six teaspoons of baking powder. Grandma takes out her largest glass bowl, and
we beat the butter until it is creamy, for about one minute. Slowly, we add the sugar and mix it until
the ingredients blend into a light and fluffy mixture, making my mouth water due to the sweet
smell. While my

Essay about Husband Abuse is Not Receiving Enough Attention
Although, husband abuse is common, it does not receive the attention it deserves. Subsequently,
it is not perceived as serious let alone problematic in our society. In many cases, husband abuse
is not taken seriously due to the higher rates and awareness of abused wives. While there are
many resilient organizations in support of battered women, there is scarcely any funding or
resources to assist battered husbands. Many that have worked with abused wives, both volunteers
and professionals have come across a number of battered husbands who have pled for assistance.

(Steinmetz, 500) From the earlier stages of childhood, while all children are taught to keep their
hands to themselves, it mostly applied to boys. Perhaps this could have been because of the
assumption that boys in general could do more damage than girls. As a result, some men may feel
pressured to accept this universal image of what a real man should be like. This portrayal is
displayed in many different forms by society whether people notice it or not. With that being said,
most battered husbands along with the rest of society have bought into the subconscious images of
men always being domineering. Suzanne Steinmetz supports this notion by stating that ... the
contention that women are socialized for greater impulse controls appears to have little support.
(Steinmetz, 504) In addition to the pressure some battered husbands experience to conduct
themselves a certain way, battered husbands may have to take on the extra trauma of
humiliation.(Steinmetz, 501) Thus, the fear of feeling powerless and belittled prevents many
victims of husband abuse from being open about their experiences.
Although spousal violence towards men is not as predominant as it is towards women, many
accept to be true that husband abuse does not really exist. While some are blinded by ignorance
others are simply just unaware of it. This is partly due to the lack of research accessible for others.
On the subject of spousal violence, examination

Overview of Darden Restaurants
Darden Company Analysis
Part A. Operations/Supply Chain Strategy
Darden Restaurants
, founded in 1968, is the largest full service dining restaurant company in the world. It is
headquartered in Orlando, Florida, but serves the global market with the brands of Olive Garden,
Red Lobster, Bahama Breeze, Seasons 52, Capital Grille, and the Long Horn Steakhouse Chain.
The company boasted close to $8 billion in 2012 revenue, with a net income of $475 million. It has
180,000 employees and almost $6 billion in total assets (www.darden.com).
Darden has four supply channels: smallware (restaurant supplies); frozen/dry canned products, fresh
food, and seafood. The common features of the supply channel management are the qualification of
the supplier, product tracking, global sourcing, independent audits of suppliers and the ability to
manage just in time inventory.
Part B. Supplier Relationship and Structure
Darden takes its suppliers very seriously, prior to doing business, the supplier must be qualified and
a Total Quality Management Team assigned to that vendor. Product tracking occurs with inspection
teams that identify the lot ID, atmospheric packaging, and the ability to track the order from origin
to receipt of goods. For their many restaurants, Darden structures its supplies from 5 continents and
thousands of suppliers, but insists on independent and accurate assessments in order to maintain
relationships. Everything must be JIT inventory except smallware.

The Friar s A Friar
Margaret Morrow

British Literature

The Friar
A friar is a simple man whose job was to beg from the poor and give to the Roman Catholic
Church. The friar takes as much as one would need to live a humble life and offers the rest for the
better of the church and poor. In the Roman Catholic Church a friar is considered a monk, and
therefore expected to be fair and reserved. However, Chaucer describes the friar, or Hubert, in a
sarcastic tone exposing his corrupt ways to only profiting himself from the poor.
The Friar is a happy and cheerful person, with a pleasant personal demeanor. Although his position
in the clergy limits him to receive his needs by begging within the area he resides, he lives a very
lavish and unrestrained life without cause or reason he does what he wants without regard to
anyone else (208 209). Of the four religious orders he has the smoothest manners and linguistic
abilities. Because of his cheerful disposition and personality he is very well liked in his area and
enjoyed performing weddings and spending time with the ladies; the community was fond of him
and especially with the more affluent and well to do landowners and woman (212 216). He
considered himself very good in the duty of confessional even better than those in the church that
that is their sole purpose and duty. He was fully licensed and took the sins of his community with
gentle and kind regard; he freed them from their sin with compassion and removed all fear

children, stepchildren, and biological children and then by the age groups of under six, six to

I intend to use this table to show that adopted children are represented at the same level as any

One reason that Providence won this award is the fact that they have a single instance of Epic
installed system wide. It should be noted that Providence and Swedish, although merged, do
operate on two different instances of Epic EHR. In order to transition to a single instance of Epic
the cost would be $30 million, compared to a $500,000 interface that connects the two systems (E.

McDonald (1997) points out that health care data is siloed in multiple areas that are inaccessible
to others. This kind of management of patient data does not serve the patient well. It is for this
reason that SCEMS approached Providence and Swedish hospitals to propose implementation of
HDE. Moreover, as stated in the McDonald article a feasible way to integrate data from disparate
sources is through the use of interfaces such as the HDE. In addition, a problem that exists in the
integration of these two data sources is the fact that the hospital system communicates via the
standard HL7 language, while the pre hospital system communicates via XML. Fortunately, the
HDE structure accounts for this difference by translating back and forth between the two different
languages. With this in mind, SCEMS requested a meeting with members of the Providence and
Swedish teams in order to propose implementation of HDE (E. Cooper, personal communication,

A Specie s Vulnerability to Population Decline Essay
Policy and decision makers claim information about the causes of population declines which
driving species on the brink of extinction (). However, it is pointed out that the causes of
vulnerability remain unclear to explain the variation to the risk of extinction (). According to
Reynolds (2003), vulnerability is determinate by both the decline of species populationand the
reduction of their geographical range. These two forms of vulnerability are affected by both species
mortality and habitat loss, which are the causes of intrinsic biological traits, extrinsic human
induced effects and stochastic factors that likely determine the population trends (). It is suggested
that extinction risk is not distributed by chance between taxa,... Show more content on

Strong sexual selection is also considerate important in predispose species to extinction risk,
because species with exaggerated traits or sexually dimorphic have high selection reducing their
genetic variability (Morrow Pitcher 2003). In addition, densities of migrants and residents species
are likely different because is predicted that migratory species could affront more risky in breeding
and stopover sites than residents ones, then migratory behaviour should be related with extinction
risk (). However, it is clear that intrinsic factors by themselves are not explained the entire extinction
phenomenon (). On the other hand, species vulnerability might not be explained only by their
internal biological traits because they are interacting with the external environment. Therefore,
extrinsic hypotheses have been proposed to elucidate their populations range size and abundance.
For instance, human impact is one of the main current causes of habitat loss and mortality of
natural populations due to a massive human population growth (). It is also thought that the
biogeographical region occupied by a species has an effect in their risk of becoming extinct such as
species living in islands (). Nevertheless, the interactions between intrinsic and extrinsic factors may

Native American And The American Of Native Americans
The Native American population has suffered many tragedies at the hands of the United States
government, from their first interactions through the mid twentieth century. Government policies
concerning American Indians worked in conjunction with the prejudices harbored by the majority
of the white population in the United Statesto suppress Native American liberties and strip them of
their cultural identity. These policies gave little to no regard for Native American customs, personal
expression, or the future of Native American traditions, and had profound effects on the Native
American individuals and families who encountered them. The boarding school policies enacted by
the United States government regarding Native Americans that were formulated to encourage the
destruction of native customs and force an entire race to assimilate into white Americanculture
ultimately led to the alienation of Native Americans from their native heritage and a loss of their
personal sense of self. Several government policies were created to control the attire and language
of Native Americans. Among these were targeted regulations regarding how Native American
students in boarding schools were to dress, act, and speak, oftentimes against their will or
traditions. It was common for students to be prohibited from speaking their native language,
encouraged instead to read, write, and speak in English only. One of the General Rules in Rules for

The Power Of Obedience In Max Weber s Legal-Rational...
Max Weber presents an ideal type of authority which is the foundation of our modern civilization.
He believes this is a legal rational authority and is based on a belief in the legitimacy of the
pattern of normative rules and the rights of those elevated to authority under such rules to issue
commands (Stillman, 2010). Obedience is owed to a legally established set of rules rather than
a person. His vision sets the power in the office rather than the person who occupies the office. In
addition, he claims anyone can rule as long as they come to office according to the rules. Weber
was very adamant about following rules and not varying from them. To him, this created order
and ensured success. However, I do not believe all rules should be strictly followed and never
deviated from. Giving a person the power of discretion allows for interoperation of rules in a
manner that applies to the situation. There will never be a set of rules that follows all situations
exactly and so discretion should be used when needed. When Max Weberwrote his principles, he
could have never imagined the amount of technology we have available today. The use of
computers allows us to have more access to information than ever before. It is also quickly
accessible and can provide a great benefit to decision making. The productivity that one could use
with the help of a computer eliminates the need for many people to work together. This gives a
person more power, and allows them to make

My Speech
Before I began my speech I was very thrilled, excited, and motivated. I expressed a large desire to
go first since there was no formal order of speakers. Minutes before class started, rehearsed my
speech a few times to ensure that I have my content sharp and that I am following the outline to
my best ability. Afterwards, it was only minutes before Dr. Lora said It is 8 on my watch, so let us
get started. Right then and there, I got up and approached the stage with confidence. Another
important factor that made me feel prepared was not only the rehearsing but it was the content. I
know my friend Adam Arata very well, so it was easy to talk highly about him. So, overall the
most important thing that made me feel well prepared to go first was the content and the practice.
During the speech: As I indicated earlier, I was confident before my speech and that was no
different for the way I felt during my speech. This speech was a little odd for me despite the
content. I didn t have any notecards so if there was a time when I would forget a word or a line, I
would have to make it up on the spot which I did several times. Furthermore, despite the number
of times I have presented, I was a little nervous this time when I was speaking. This was evident by
the delivery of my speech. I spoke clearly but there would be times when it didn t flow. However,
for the most part, I felt a great level of comfort. I began to look at people I feel extremely
comfortable with when speaking, which

Blind Faith in Cat s Cradle, by Kurt Vonnegut
In current society, critical thinking can be sparse. It is unusual that people question the traditions
they have grown up with. Although this ignorance can be safe and simple, its outcome is ultimately
problematic. In the satire Cat s Cradle, Kurt Vonnegut proves that undiscerning belief in anything
will inevitably end in tragedy. Vonnegut demonstrates this using sensitive topics such as Science
and Religion.
In the present day, society depends on Science greatly; it supplies jobs, provides technology
capable of saving lives, and furthers our society in many positive ways. However, society often
misses the negative aspects of Science. Vonnegut identifies many problems with the general
perspective on Science in Cat s Cradle, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If Miss Pefko, who spends hours typing up reports for scientists, does not understand than it is
likely that the general population would not either. When it comes to complicated science that
the average person does not comprehend it is likely that their unawareness will be taken
advantage of. John, as well as some other characters travel to a fictitious country called San
Lorenzo dictated by Papa Monazano. Many years before, the oldest son in Hoenikker family,
Frank, exchanged his ice nine to the dictator in order to live a comfortable and carefree life, this
of course could only lead to a tragedy. Papa tells John that he and Frank must lead San Lorenzo
because they have knowledge about science and science is magic that works (Vonnegut 218).
Rather than choosing the most kind or wise successor, Papa chooses Science above all else. He
blindly sees Science as a good thing and he believes it will bring salvation to his people. There is
no discrimination between good Science and bad Science, and this kind of blind acceptance
leads to the demise of the population of San Lorenzo. Papa commits suicide using the ice nine in
his castle. John and the Hoenikkers find Papa dead and quickly try to clean up the remaining ice
nine but despite their best efforts the end of the world is inescapable. A plane crashes into the
castle, causing it to fall into the ocean, and the remaining ice nine in it freezes the earth s water
supply, immediately killing people

The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Renting A Coper Rentals
Virtually all offices have copier machines that employees use for their daily maneuvers. However,
maximum of these businesses do not categorically purchase their own machines. Rather, they just
rent copier machines from other firms. What makes copier rentals so prevalent? Is it actually a
superior option than buying your own copier unit? The answer for maximum businesses is yes,
there are lots of advantages when opting for copier rentals than essentially purchasing a unit for
their workplace.
At the outset, if you purchase your own copier machine or even toner cartridge, you will have the
solitary accountability of maintenance, overhauls and other such errands that could take a lot of
your valued time and effort. If you use a copier machine on rent, you will have enormously less
apprehension about these problems. Maximum copier rental supplier or firms offer free service
and maintenances to their clienteles. When your copier machine breakdowns, all you have to do is
contact the copier rental firm and they will offer repair assistance for free or for a very minimal
amount. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An imperative thing to remember when renting a copier machine is to make certain that a manual
is incorporated when your unit is delivered. Copiers have diverse features and you may have a
hard hitting time reckoning how to operate your copier rental, particularly if it is very different
from what you are used to. Maximum rental companies will be cheerful to walk you through the
features of your rented copier. So, if you were thinking about purchasing a machine and your
budget is not adequate, remember that you can always use copier rentals. They may be more
economical for your business. Since the copiers are leased out to countless different firms, it is
vital to ensure that the machines are in good shape before signing any contracts for them so that
you can sidestep lots of trouble that can

The Soul Shell Shores
The soul shell shores were rumored to be where the lost souls went. Officially, the section of
shoreline was called Kalivey Beach. It wasn t a popular destination for anyone not searching for
answers, so on the dreary day I arrived, the beach was empty save a few birds. Small and large
seashells covered the beach, piled in some places, as if to create cairns where stones were absent.
Meandering footpaths had been cleared all the way to the water, so no shells would be destroyed.
You see, the shells here were special. Each one held the soulof a person who wasn t here anymore.
If you believed the stories that is. There were people devoted to preserving the beach, that it
might be here for people who need it, but there were also those who thought the seashells couldn
t possibly be magic. Every time the tide changed and more shore was revealed, people came out
to the beach to stack the shells, a job from which they earned no profits and got no thanks. The
tide came back in and knocked over their piles not twelve hours later. I glanced to my right,
away from the water, to see where the tide line was, only to realize something that should have
been obvious. I was on the boardwalk, which would have been constructed to never be
underwater. It was high tide. How many shells were still underwater? I had no idea if the tide
was coming in or going out, so I just stopped on the boardwalk. We made it Riley, what do you
think? I didn t know why I bothered being so cheerful, or why

Acute Operative Surgery And Surgical Stress Responses
Answer 1.
Understanding contraindications with post operative surgery and surgical stress responses in
patients with pre existing diseases or conditions, is the key pathogenic factor to understand. Post
Surgical stress responses include: Pain, Nausea, Hypoxemia, Muscle loss, Immobilisation and
Sleep disturbance etc. Increase on the demand of organ functions and activation of other
biological responses in the body, is the result of post operative surgical stress. These changes due
to stress on body functions are believed to be induced by endocrine metabolism and activation of
several other biological systems in our body. Although these changes are important for survival, if

This is contributed to, by activation of the sympathetic nervous system (flight or fight response to

Hyperglycaemia results physiologically in glycosuria (exceeds the tubular maximum for
reabsorption at the proximal tubule) which leads to polyuria and subsequent polydipsia.
Hyperglycaemia is not optimal peri operatively because of the risk of infection and poor wound

also not ideal in someone who is already likely dehydrated from fluid losses and blood loss from the

Theology Of Fear Book Review
Fear is an emotion that is common today, both in the secular and Christian camps. Many become
scared over minute things, but then there are those who have strong fears about events in their
past that then cause fear about future events. How do we know when we should be fearful and
when we should simply be cautious? Overall, the book was excellent, and it offered a strong
approach to understanding fear and how to overcome it. And while I understand Dr. Ken Nichols s
intent, I would be interested in learning how to apply the content of this book in the context of a
counseling session.
While reading the text, I found that there was not much emphasis given to the theology of fear as
outlined in Scripture. I understand that the book was an overview

The Fifth Child by Doris Lessing
The Fifth Child is the masterpiece of Nobel Prize winner Doris Lessing. Lessing herself
described it as a horror story, but we can also put it into the genre of social psychological novels.
She declared: I hated writing it. It was sweating blood. I was very glad when it was done. It was
an upsetting thing to write obviously, it goes very deep into me somewhere. It is a brilliant novel
which deals not just with the social aspect of familylife in England at the end of 19th century but
with human psyches in general. Harriet and David Lovatt are a conventional and traditional
couple who met at the office party and immediately fell in love because of the similar interests
that they share. One of their common desires is to have a pretty family house in the country and
produce a large family of six or eight children. All of their friends, family members and relatives
are completely shocked by their odd wish. Slowly they start building a family life; they buy a
huge house in the country, and have the first baby. Ever since they have their first baby their
house is full of family members, relatives and friends for every holiday, just like they have
always dreamed of. Besides the fact that Harriet does not have easy pregnancies and all the work
she has to do makes her completely exhausted, she enjoys having a house full of people and to
impose on them with her perfect life. Everything is just like Harriet and David Lovatt have always
dreamed; they have four cute,

Gender Differences Between Men And Women
Regardless of the standard definition, gender differences cause the meaning of attractiveness to
vary among society. Cultural influences suggest that the beauty is in the eye of the beholder is
false. Aside from the specific guidelines towards what men and women perceive, men take
attractiveness more serious than do women. It has been proven that both men and women
compare body image and asymmetry when determining someone s attractiveness, or lack there of.
However, there are certain cases where exceptions are made and individuals date even when there
is no physical attraction. Women appear more asymmetrical when ovulating, whereas men appear
less asymmetrical when they have a high parasite count (thus decreasing their attractiveness).
Everyone is physically attracted to averaged faced individuals due to the fact that they tend to
have the right features, at the right size(s). Along with asymmetry, a man having a wider and
sharper jaw line can also be perceived as more attractive, whereas a women is more attractive when
she has a baby face appearance to her facial image.
Body image, although not always the most important feature, can still determine someone s
attractiveness based on BMI, WHR, and SHR. Based on gender differences, the average attractive
woman is suggested to have her waist about 70% smaller than her hips, expressing the ganoid
shape figure men view as attractive. Estrogen levels appear to be associated with the BMI x WHR
scale. If a women falls

Death Penalty Is Cruel And Unusual Punishment
The legal executions first started in California when it was under the Practices Act in 1851. Then
in February 14th 1872 it was put in the Penal Code. Capital punish in counties continued until an
amendment by the legislature in 1891 said that it could only happen in the State Prisons picked by
the court. The first state execution in California happens on March 3rd 1893 at San Quentin and
the first one in Folsom was on December 13th 1895. In the 1937 s the legislature decided that
instead of hanging people they were going to use lethal gas. This did not affect the people that were
already sentenced to be hanged and the last hanging was in December 3rd 1937 at Folsom and the
last hanging in Quentin was hold on May 1st 1942. Twenty five years after 1967 because of the
United States Supreme Court choices there were no executions. In 1962 the Supreme Court thought
that death penalty as cruel and unusual punishment. Because of this 107 people had their sentences
changed to something that was not death. In November 1972 nine months after they had this choice
the California electorate amended the state constitution overruled it. Then in 1973 the Supreme
Court decided that the death penalty was unconstitutional. The California legislation was passed in
1973, which meant that the death penalty could only happen under certain conditions. These
conditions were kidnapping if the person dies, train wrecking if any person dies, assault by a life

Their leader Kim Jong Il is viewed as almost being a deity whose methods cannot be questioned and

thinking of North Korea.
Introduction This report is a cultural analysis of the country of North Korea. The paper itself
analyzes the history, geography, education, language, economy, and politics of the Democratic
People s Republic of Korea known simply as: North Korea. Group 4 chose this particular country
out of curiosity and the want to find out what the nation was like. Not many facts are known about
North Korea and its shady past. This project explores everything from the difficult relationships
between the Korean people and their government, to the famines and floods that threatened the
entire survival of the country. The research has shed light on the corruption of the North Korean
government and the reign of ruthless leaders such as Kim Il Sung and his son Kim Jong Il. The
politics of North Korea have been questionable at best in the nation s history. Finally they are
making progress to renew laws that better fit into North Korean society, but the process is slow.
Change does not come to North Korea quickly. This paper will delve into the little known aspects of
North Korea. Hopefully, a better understanding of the country s characteristics can benefit both the

Cannibalism And Its Impact On Society
Introduction
Throughout the course of our evolution hominids have engaged in, what today would be
considered savage, inhumane practices, such as manslaughter, torture and mutilation (Lewis,
Jurmain Kilgore, 2013). These actions today are considered almost taboo in society, however
anthropologists who study such behaviour and historians who have meticulously documented it are
completely comfortable divulging their work to the scientific community. Based on this acceptance,
one would expect the topic of cannibalism to be met with the same understanding within academia.
Astoundingly though, the discussion of cannibalism within our ancestral past encounters much
controversy and is greatly looked down upon within the general population (White, 2001). For those
who study this highly provocative practice, like paleoanthropologist Tim White, the idea of
cannibalism is as significant to the holistic study of anthropology as the idea of evolution is to the
study of creationism. This viewpoint is only one of many related to cannibalism today and is shared
by a very small group of individuals. The thought of cannibalism within modern society though
comes with so much displeasure to the point that conferences go to the length of entitling
presentations such that the notion of one human being consuming another is eluded altogether. An
example of this tactic would be the Multidisciplinary Approaches to Social Violence in the
Prehispanic American Southwest symposium which outlined

  • 2. The Jigsaw Classroom Is A Cooperative Learning Teaching The jigsaw classroom is a cooperative learning teaching method used in school systems around the United States. Its success found in the classroom with student participation has not gone unnoticed and more and more schools have started to use this style of teaching. Similar to a jigsaw puzzle, the jigsaw classroom works to connect students. Each student is an important piece to the learning process and assigned a job to help create a final product. Due to the fact all students parts are so essential, each student feels important, understands they need to complete their specific task or else they will disappoint their peers who are working with them. It is simple things like that which make the jigsaw classroom teaching method so... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Instead of quitting on what they had done, and or just resegragating all the population. Professor Aronson stepped forward and used his position of power to try and fix what was going on and help students get along. Professor Aronson decided that the best thing for him to do is observe the school and sit in on classes so that he could try and understand what was causing the tension between students. After observing the confrontations and how classes were being conducted, he concluded that the competitive nature of the students and their want to be the best one in each class was what was fueling the hostility. He saw that students worked by themselves and the teachers were creating an atmosphere that allowed them to compete for the top grade. The new goal of the professor was to switch the focus in the classroom from competition to cooperation. Aronson came up with the idea to divide students into small groups, mixing each group based on their race, ethnicity, gender, and made them responsible for a specific portion of each lesson. This change in teaching method forced the quiet and shy students to no longer be able to hide in their seats, the outspoken kids, or leaders would have to hear what their classmate had to say. Due to the fact students were having to cooperate with one another and all give input, the competitiveness of the classroom was lessened. The students needed to start supporting ... • 4. How Does Pip Develop Throughout The Novel What influences shape the character of young Pip in Great Expectations? Great Expectations , by Charles Dickens, is an enthralling tale of love and fortune. The story is set in the period of Dickens childhood, from 1810 to approximately 1830, and it is likely that memories of his own youth inspired Dickens to write the novel. The main character, Pip, is a gentle and humble boy whose character and personality undergo major transformations throughout the novel. He is influenced by many characters, in particular Estella, the hard hearted girl from Satis House, and Magwitch, the convict from the marshes. From the first page of the novel, Pip is introduced as an orphan and he enlightens the reader I never saw my father or my... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is due to Mrs Joe that Pip develops a conscience and as a result she is crucial to his upbringing. Joe builds a solid and amiable relationship with Pip. Pip depicts him as a mild, good natured, sweet tempered, easy going, foolish, dear fellow and because of this, and also the fact that they are the only males in the household, Pip finds him easy to get along with. This can be seen when Joe covers for Pip when he is late home or when he says ever the best of friends; an t us Pip? Joe is Pip s first and closest friend who comforts the boy in hard times. However, to Pip, Joe is not just a companion but also in some ways a paternal and even a maternal figure. Their relationship means that Pip is able to talk to Joe openly about any subject and therefore Joe has a very positive effect on Pip through his love. Pip loves Joe for what he is and in his childhood dreams of becoming Joe s apprentice to become a blacksmith. However, Pip s relationship with Joe begins to change after Pip pays his frequent visits to Satis House. Pip begins to feel ashamed of Joe because he is illiterate and the young boy feels that becoming a blacksmith is not the right choice to make. The Text of the Gettysburg Address Soon after Everett s overall appropriated comments, Lincoln gave his address that lasted only a couple of minutes. In this short time, he used ten sentences to aptly summarize the war and the way ahead for the United States. The five known composition copies of the Gettysburg Address are named for the individuals who obtained it from Lincoln. Lincoln provides a copy to his private secretaries, John Hay and John Nicolay. Both of the aforementioned copies were composed around the time of his November 19 address, while the other three duplicates of the speech, the Bliss, Bancroft, and Everett duplicates, and were composed by President Lincoln for philanthropic purposes. These copies were sent well later to November 19, the actual date of the famous address. Since then these copies have ended up being the standard content of Lincoln s Gettysburg Address (LoC, 2012). • 6. The Inevitability Of Interdependence In Interpersonal... As long as there exists a relationship between two people, which tend to be closer, chances of conflict occurrence are enhanced; hence the inevitability of conflict principle as mentioned by Cahn and Abigail (2014). From the case above, is has been depicted that interpersonal conflicts arise among individuals who are important to each other, and are to continue being together in various contexts, hence a sense of interdependence (Cahn Abigail, 2014). There is an automatic mother child interdependence in one way, or another hence conflictis inevitable. This inevitability is also portrayed by Hertz (2015) while elaborating on conflict managementwith patients. It is the prolonged relationship between the patient and the doctor that increases the chances conflict occurrence. Both of them are important to one another in that the patient needs to be well while the doctor wants to gain from the patient after offering the treatment services, hence the interdependence. Canary (2013) has also highlighted the interdependence concept as a key initiator of conflict among family members. According to him, the interdependence creates the family system. He has also expressed the fact that positive behaviour, between family members, in conflict interaction is a key propeller of conflict management. This applies to the case above, in that the calm response to the mother challenged her and provoked resolution in her, about her prior behaviour. Higgerson (2016) has also handled ... • 7. Pond Water Paper 1 pH, Protisits, and Ponds Everything Pond Water 2 Introduction Humans are surrounded by thousands of bodies of water throughout the world. What makes a lake differ from an ocean? Or what makes a pond different from a lake? A pond is a body of standing water either natural or man made, that is usually smaller than a lake. Ponds contain amazing biodiversity, providing an environment for birds, fish, amphibians, alages, protists, and many many more organisms. A pondis normally much shallower than a lake, and sometimes plants roots can grow all the way to the bottom of the pond because the suns rays can penetrate to the bottom of the pond. It is very hard to determine the difference between a pond and a lake, most differences occur ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Alages seemed to be more prominent at the bottom of the pond water sample. Blue green algae can grow without nitrogen and will soon dominate the pond. (3) While looking at blue green algae when looking under the microscope, it was surprising at how little quantity there was. Expecting to find more algae at the other levels, samples of all three layers of the pond water; top, middle, and bottom were taken. Each layer contained nearly the same amount of algae. Expecting to find many protists near the bottom, numerous samples at that layer were taken, only to find them dominated by blue green algae. This find was not expected. The lack of Protist activity could be due to the temperature of the water and season when the pond water sample was collected. The colder temperatures in winter, along with reduced light, can lead to less and slower Protist activity. Looking at the hypothesis, it was unclear to the number of algae seen as the pH changed. Algae numbers seemed to be consistent regardless of the pH, or the layer of water which the sample was taken. For future experiments, it would be helpful if there was alage measurements as far as quantity of algae. Since the pH remained consistent and did not fluctuate, there was no way of determining the alages numbers. Proper measurements are crucial when trying to determine the legitimacy of a hypothesis. 7 Conclusion In conclusion, ponds are bodies of water that are normally smaller than a lake, that ... • 9. The Prediction Of Fullerene Structure Fullerene was first recorded in a Japanese article, Kagaku, written by Eiji Osawa in 1970 which stated the prediction on the existence of C60 compound [1]. In the following year, a conjecture on the stability of C60 was established by Osawa and Yoshida where the aromatic characteristic of C60 was described further. The stability was further better explained when the HГјckel s calculation method was applied and introduced to the icosahedron structure of C60 by Bochvar and Gal pern [2]. The prediction of fullerenestructure was discussed based on graphiteballoon speculation made by David Jones using pseudonym of Daedalus in a journal, The Scientist [3]. This speculation was essentially describing the gas phase carboncluster in the form of geodesic cages which is applied to giant fullerenes compound [2]. Fullerenes can be described as closely packed carbon cages hold in rings of, most commonly, hexagons and pentagons with sp2 hydridised carbons. In some larger structure with more than 100 carbons, heptagonal rings may present. A large numbered fullerene will require larger cage to obtain the most least steric angle between the bonds and the structure might have a surface of concaved [4]. Figure 1 and Figure 2 show the cage structures of fullerenes C60 and C70. Both of these fullerenes are the most stable fullerene with more planar and larger nearly spherical structure and have higher thermodynamic stability with positive enthalpy change of formation, ∆H_f [4]. They are also a key predictor of a company s ability to make timely payments to creditors and to continue to meet obligations to lenders when faced with an unforeseen event. The inventory turnover ratio is an efficiency ratio that shows how effectively inventory is managed by comparing cost of goods sold with average inventory for a period. This measures how many times average inventory is turned or sold during a period. The inventory turnover ratio for Woolworths is 10, which is comparable to the baseline of 10. The Receivable Turnover Ratio measures how many times a business can turn its accounts receivable into cash during a period. In other words, the accounts receivable turnover ratio measures how many times a business can collect its average accounts receivable during the year. From a 5 yr. standpoint, Woolworths collects its receivables every 20 days where the baseline is a month. Higher efficiency is favorable from a cash flow standpoint as well. • 12. College Athletes Should Get Paid Analysis 1.Introduction Throughout my high school athletic career, playing both football and running cross country, i ve witnessed multiple teammates of mine receive scholarships to continue their athletic and academic careers at a university. However due to the disproportionate number of hours spent on the sport rather than academics without receiving compensation is causing many high school athletes to turn down athletic scholarships and instead begin to focus on their academic futures. In December 2012 I had the pleasure of accompanying the Baylor Bears football team on a flight after their 49 26 win against UCLA in the Holiday Bowl in San Diego California, nearly the entire flight was comprised of football players and personnel, with coaches and starters sitting first class, seniors behind them and so on. I was seated in the very last row next to then redshirt freshman quarterback Seth Russell who has since become a star at Baylor. He and I began discussing how great life of a college athlete was and he explained to me that the scholarship he received, along with the free room and board was his compensation and that the countless practice hours that appear to subtract time that could be used studying would equate hours of work necessary to cover the expenses of attending the university. • 13. The Mine Resistant Ambush Protective The Mine Resistant Ambush Protective (MRAP) program featured remarkable speed of development and production at the time the United States shifted its counterinsurgency strategy in Iraq. The controversy over the MRAP program revolved around the three year delay from when the field initially identified its need until its production. This paper asserts that while MRAP development and production speed was impressive, the slow reaction to the enemy s Improvised Explosive Device(IED) capability and the lack of doctrine and concept development led to delay. To support this position, this essay describes the strategic environment with its competing efforts, and it compares the MRAP acquisition to normal Major Defense Acquisition Programs (MDAP). Furthermore, it recommends rapid acquisition of other MDAPs of equivalent strategic importance and urgency, and it highlights the key roles of senior leaders, the Services and the CCMDs within the MRAP acquisition process. The strategic environment of the MRAP program spanned from 2003 through 2008. It began when General Abizaid, Commander of U.S. Central Command, declared that IEDs were the No. 1 threat. This declaration from one Combatant Commander (CCDR) was far short of the fundamentals required to develop a joint concept and its subsequent solutions. Although MRAPs seemingly provided a solution to an enemy capability, there was no joint concept that was idea focused, collaboratively developed and assessed, or rigorously evaluated. ... Feminism isn t about making women stronger. Women are already strong. It s about changing the way the world perceives that strength. G.D Anderson. This quote from G.D Anderson corresponds to Marge Piercy s poem A Work of Artifice . A Work of Artifice is an allegory published in 1999. The speaker is a feminist and the poem is written in third person. The poem sets a sarcastic tone while talking about the oppression of women and how women suffer in society. Piercy uses poetic devices such as metaphors, diction and allusions to show how society subjugates women to fit the accepted idea of beauty. Throughout A Work of Artifice , an extended metaphor of a Bonsai Tree is used. The Bonsai tree represents a women. A gardener is also used to represent a man and/or society. How Did Roman Roads Build Bridges Roman Roads and Bridges Introduction The Roman road system, an intricate network of major as well as minor roads, spanned nearly 50,000 miles, allowed for quick, easy travel and military advantages, and served as a link between many different centers of population in the Roman Empire. At first, the Romans developed roads for military use only, utilizing them to gather troops quickly and transport resources to certain places during wars. Soldiers were even charged with the task of constructing roads. Eventually, civilians replaced them in this duty and even began using the roads as a means of travel from one place to another. Did you know that paving stones were preferred because of their durability, and the Romans had two different methods of paving a road? The first method involved shaping the paving stones into polygons and connecting them together. In the second method, the Romans formed rectangles out of the stones and joined them at right angles. Significant Aspects and Features of the Roman Roads Camber: The camber was the slightly raised center of the road. This made the road useful during rain and other kinds of weather because it caused water to flow off of the surface and into the drainage ditches on the sides. However prior to this it is important to discuss the fact that we are now living in an era of an attention economy. In today s age, consumers are overwhelmed by the paradox of choice so many choices to make, and no easy way to distinguish among the offerings (Davenport, Harris 2009). Furthermore, since consumers are bombarded with advert offering its important to avail of whatever attention a brand gets. Thus an attention economy is an approach of management that treat human attention as scare resources and applies an economic theory to make use of that attention; hence the ability of the brand to channel attention creates great value. A semiotic description is consequently a vital means by which we might begin to understand how an image captivates our imaginations. The founder of modern linguistics, Ferdinand de Saussure, argued that at one point in time language would be part of a comprehensive science of signs, which would study the production of meaning (Culler, 2001). In other words, the appeal of images comes through the stories or meanings that are being depicted, which eventually leads to an emotion or experience being felt by people in an attention economy. It gave the people of America a brutal outlook of what the future will hold for kids attending public education. Aside from the many million dollar budget cuts, the new proposal would leave a record of 1.6 million students without an after school program, most programs of which were centered around the arts. President Trump and the secretary of education, Betsy DeVos, shaped a finance plan that would cut approximately $27 million from arts education programs (Langsam, 11). DeVos s validation procedure sparked the controversial likelihood of there being support for bills, policies, and other legislation that would prove to be destructive to arts education. The Every Student Succeeds Act, or the ESSA, ensures that every child receives both a beneficial and versatile education. The ESSA not only guarantees the inclusion of challenging and progressive arts instruction for pre kindergarten through 12th grade, but it also assures that the arts is integrated within general scholastic subjects. If the country were to stray away from the policy in place, the ESSA, education for kids would be centered around privatizing schools or the creation of a voucher system. This in turn would impend the tools and funding needed to guarantee equity for arts education in America. With the massive financial cut in mind, arts companies and organizations should be required to aid schools in maintaining arts education in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 18. Consumer Discrimination And Sexual Orientation Based... Earlier this year, the concepts of consumer discrimination and sexual orientation based discrimination have come to a forefront in American politics and should be dealt with through federal legislation (Payne, 2015). Two arguments which can be used to argue on the side of discrimination are the First Amendment used in tandem with corporate personhood and the First Amendment used on its own. I argue, however, that corporate personhood is not a legitimate argument nor is the First Amendment grounds for an individual to discriminate against another. Another defense of discrimination against consumers is the first section of the Thirteenth Amendment. The elimination and prevention of the entirety of such discrimination could be carried out through enacting a single two part law. Two defenses of discrimination include a combination of the First Amendment with each current precedent regarding corporations and of its own accord. Current precedent is the concept of corporate personhood wherein a corporation is treated as a person albeit with controversy regarding their treatment (Ripken, 2010). When this precedent is used in tandem with the provision that the free exercise of religion shall not be prohibited in the First Amendment, this makes a case that the government may not prohibit a corporation from exercising a religion (U.S. Const. amend. XIX). The other possible argument regarding the First Amendment is the individual s right to exercise their religion. Each of these ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Characterized by stylized, complex language, lyrical and elaborate dialogue with very little context or explanations, his style involves revealing secrets, opening hidden areas of one s identity, and a continuous search for conclusions to satisfy (Author Last name for Understanding Sam Shepard, 1). The effect of his surreal techniques, open ended structure (where anything can happen) and exploration of complex worlds and characters makes him one of America s most creative, thoughtful, and challenging playwrights. I could be just like you then, huh? and then a few lines later telling Austin, I always wondered what d be like to be you (P. 886 887). Austin and Lee s role reversal becomes even clearer in the beginning of scene seven. While Lee is working on the screenplay, a drunk Austin states that Saul Kimmer thinks Austin and Lee are the same person. This seems virtually impossible at first as the brothers look nothing alike, but Saul does not mistake them by their appearance, as he mistakes them based on their function in the creative process. One thing to note is that Saul Kimmer and the opportunity he represents is the catalyst for this transformation between Austin and Lee. Thinking about the beginning of this story, Austin was a confident individual and somewhat accomplished. However, when Kimmer agrees to produce Lee s projects instead of Austin s, an inward conflict is created. Austin completely loses that sense of superiority he once showed. We can see Austin s transformation as he loses that connection he had with his inner self. Blood in the Hills: The Story of Khe Sahn, the Most Savage Fight of the Vietnam War, written by Robert Maras, with the assistance of Charles W. Sasser, tells the story of Maras, a Vietnam veteran, and his experiences during the war. From his combat landing on Red Beach, to his departure from the Demilitarized Zone, also known as the DMZ, Robert Maras describes in great detail the joys and sorrows of his time in Vietnam. The book also exhibits the development of the average Marine, and the mental and physical toll the fighting at Khe Sanh takes on each individual. Throughout the memoir, the warrior creed of Semper Fidelis is repeated an abundance of times, meaning always faithful, and symbolizing the US Marine Corps determination to fight for their beloved country (Maras 3). This saying was especially influential during the times Bob Maras was subjected to viewing his comrades perish before him, as he could only hope he would survive the countless battles in the jungle terrain of Khe Sanh. Blood in the Hills is a powerful read for those engrossed with not only the corporeal aspect of war, but fascinated in learning about warfare from a psychological perspective. Leading up the English reformation King Henry was married to Catherine of Aragon and had many attempts at giving birth to a male heir as a result of this King Henry began to tire of this married and looked elsewhere to Anne Boleyn and became what historians refer to as infatuated with her, wanting an annulment Henry asked the Pope at the time Clement VII to grant him one and utilized his knowledge of the Old Testament to give reason to his request stating that Leviticus 20:16 said If a man shall take his brother s wife, it is an impurity; he hath uncovered his brother s nakedness; they shall be childless Henry also referred to his marriage with Catherine as blighted in the eyes of God However the pope did not grant one because it goes against the Catholic faith, one underling reason is the fact that one of the most powerful monarchs in Europe was Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor who s kingdom spanned over Spain, Germany and Italy this accumulated to nearly 4 million square kilometers in land. In modern times we have made leaps and bounds to control this illness. In the Roman Catholic Church a friar is considered a monk, and therefore expected to be fair and reserved. All of the Fire Department services are on the same instance of Electronic Health Record(EHR). Implementation of the EHR began in 2010, with Advanced Life Support entities. In 2013 the EHR vendor added a feature called Health Data Exchange (HDE) as an option. This feature allows bi directional flow of information from the pre hospitalEHR to the hospital EHR. One reason that Providence won this award is the fact that they have a single instance of Epic installed system wide. It should be noted that Providence and Swedish, although merged, do operate on two different instances of Epic EHR. In order to transition to a single instance of Epic the cost would be $30 million, compared to a $500,000 interface that connects the two systems (E. Cooper, personal communication, May 23, 2016). Proposal McDonald (1997) points out that health care data is siloed in multiple areas that are inaccessible to others. This kind of management of patient data does not serve the patient well. It is for this reason that SCEMS approached Providence and Swedish hospitals to propose implementation of HDE. Moreover, as stated in the McDonald article a feasible way to integrate data from disparate sources is through the use of interfaces such as the HDE. In addition, a problem that exists in the integration of these two data sources is the fact that the hospital system communicates via the standard HL7 language, while the pre hospital system communicates via XML. Fortunately, the HDE structure accounts for this difference by translating back and forth between the two different languages. With this in mind, SCEMS requested a meeting with members of the Providence and Swedish teams in order to propose implementation of HDE (E. Cooper, personal communication, May 23, ... However, it is pointed out that the causes of vulnerability remain unclear to explain the variation to the risk of extinction (). According to Reynolds (2003), vulnerability is determinate by both the decline of species populationand the reduction of their geographical range. These two forms of vulnerability are affected by both species mortality and habitat loss, which are the causes of intrinsic biological traits, extrinsic human induced effects and stochastic factors that likely determine the population trends (). However, it is clear that intrinsic factors by themselves are not explained the entire extinction phenomenon (). On the other hand, species vulnerability might not be explained only by their internal biological traits because they are interacting with the external environment. Therefore, extrinsic hypotheses have been proposed to elucidate their populations range size and abundance. For instance, human impact is one of the main current causes of habitat loss and mortality of natural populations due to a massive human population growth (). It is also thought that the biogeographical region occupied by a species has an effect in their risk of becoming extinct such as species living in islands (). • 37. Native American And The American Of Native Americans The Native American population has suffered many tragedies at the hands of the United States government, from their first interactions through the mid twentieth century. Government policies concerning American Indians worked in conjunction with the prejudices harbored by the majority of the white population in the United Statesto suppress Native American liberties and strip them of their cultural identity. These policies gave little to no regard for Native American customs, personal expression, or the future of Native American traditions, and had profound effects on the Native American individuals and families who encountered them. The boarding school policies enacted by the United States government regarding Native Americans that were formulated to encourage the destruction of native customs and force an entire race to assimilate into white Americanculture ultimately led to the alienation of Native Americans from their native heritage and a loss of their personal sense of self. Several government policies were created to control the attire and language of Native Americans. Among these were targeted regulations regarding how Native American students in boarding schools were to dress, act, and speak, oftentimes against their will or traditions. It was common for students to be prohibited from speaking their native language, encouraged instead to read, write, and speak in English only. • 38. The Power Of Obedience In Max Weber s Legal-Rational... Max Weber presents an ideal type of authority which is the foundation of our modern civilization. He believes this is a legal rational authority and is based on a belief in the legitimacy of the pattern of normative rules and the rights of those elevated to authority under such rules to issue commands (Stillman, 2010). Obedience is owed to a legally established set of rules rather than a person. His vision sets the power in the office rather than the person who occupies the office. In addition, he claims anyone can rule as long as they come to office according to the rules. Weber was very adamant about following rules and not varying from them. To him, this created order and ensured success. However, I do not believe all rules should be strictly followed and never deviated from. Giving a person the power of discretion allows for interoperation of rules in a manner that applies to the situation. There will never be a set of rules that follows all situations exactly and so discretion should be used when needed. When Max Weberwrote his principles, he could have never imagined the amount of technology we have available today. The use of computers allows us to have more access to information than ever before. It is also quickly accessible and can provide a great benefit to decision making. The productivity that one could use with the help of a computer eliminates the need for many people to work together.
