The author was approached to write a Local Studies module for the Ref-Ex reference librarian training program to provide an overview of local studies services and common issues. They initially felt fear about the time commitment and their suitability but those fears were unfounded. Working with colleagues from other libraries, they outlined the module, decided on key concepts and structure. The final module provides an overview of local studies service delivery, key issues and questions, with links to more detailed resources. The author found the collaborative writing process rewarding and is now assisting with another Ref-Ex module.
