Paulie Malignaggi Research Paper
Former IBF light welterweight and WBA welterweight titlist Paulie Malignaggi (33 7, 7 KOs) is
reportedly hanging up his gloves after a devastating ninth round technical knockout loss to up and
coming fighter Danny Garcia (31 0, 18 KOs), as per Boxing News 24.
The Brooklyn native announced his intention to retire after a 14 year fighting career during the post
fight interview on Saturday at the Barclays Center in New York. He also expressed his desire to
continue a career either as a boxing commentator or analyst during live broadcasts.
I m probably not fighting again, Malignaggi said, as reported by ESPN. You hate to make an
emotional decision. My career started in Brooklyn 14 years ago. If it ends in Brooklyn tonight, then at
least I ended it at home, where I m from, and in front of the greatest fans in the world. I ve got a really
good job commentating and watching great fighters fight ringside. I hope to sit around ringside for a
long time.
The 27 year old Garcia completely dominated the fight and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It was clear that Garcia is a different animal altogether.
With the welterweight and light welterweight divisions filling up with elite fighters these days, it is
certainly a good decision for Malignaggi to call it quits and avoid any unwanted injuries or risks to a
decent boxing career.
While he may still be called for tune up fights with come backing boxers or turning point matches
with rising stars like Garcia, the best place for Malignaggi now is behind the microphone at ringside.
Malignaggi had been contemplating about retirement since his fourth round knockout loss to then IBF
welterweight titlist Shaw Porter 16 months ago. This crushing loss in the hands of Garcia finally made
it clear that he is ready to

Analysis Of Bret Harte s The Outcasts Of Poker Flat
If everything was perfect, you will never learn and you would never grow (Beyoncé). Bret Harte s
stories have ordinary people, doing everyday things on a day to day basis. In The Outcasts of Poker
Flat helps to see in the Realism Era because of its references to the California Gold rush, and the story
references to the hard life on the road to the west. Harte s stories also feature the old west which was
the way of life back then. Bret Harte also puts his personal experiences in his characters/ stories
because back then authors wrote based on themselves. He presents realism in a mass of his plots in his
works. Bret Harte s works display his references to the civil war, rugged individualism, government

Genetic Transformation Of Genetic Dna
Genetic transformation occurs when an organism s genetic makeup is altered due to the introduction
of new genetic information which is then incorporated into the organism s genome. In this lab the
pGLO plasmid is introduced into E. Coli bacteria, and incorporates the genes which code for the GFP
and beta lactamase to the bacteria s genome which as a result will be modified. To test the effects of
the plasmid, bacteria treated with the plasmid were grown on separate plates, the first containing LB
nutrient broth and ampicillin, another containing LB nutrient broth and arabinose and another
containing LB nutrient broth, ampicillin and arabinose. Two more plates were grown, one with LB
nutrient broth and ampicillin and the other with only the LB broth, using cells that did not contain the
plasmid. Since the lab was about genetic transformation, the goal was to find which plate would glow.
It was found that the plates that were not exposed to the plasmid did not glow, and the plates
containing LB and arabinose and LB, ampicillin and arabinose did glow. The plates containing
ampicillin, the antibiotic that kills E. coli did not grow whereas the remaining plates at least had some
growth.
Introduction
Transformation is the directed modification of a genome by the external application of DNA from a
cell of different genotype (Griffiths and Miller).Bacterial transformation is the easiest type of
transformation to create and study due to the single cellularity of bacteria and its

The Power of the Moral Ideal in The Fountainhead Essay
The Power of the Moral Ideal in The Fountainhead
The Fountainhead is a novel of gigantic proportions. It deals with great talent and great mediocrity,
with great love and great hatred, with great ambition and equally great complacence. It
unpretentiously chooses to steer clear of the much hyped common man, with his commonplace dreams
and aspirations.
The theme of The Fountainhead can be summarized in the famous line by the author man s ego is the
fountainhead of human progress . The novel exalts egotism, which is generally looked upon in our
world with great dislike. The protagonist, Howard Roark, is a man used by the author to exemplify
this philosophy. He is a man of outstanding genius whose only fault seems to be ... Show more content

Roark is a man who lives up to the word man . He believes that man alone has power over himself He
does not believe in God or in destiny, simple because he doesn t need to. In order to be truly great a
man must be physically, mentally and spiritually be involved in his work, the way Roark was. Roark
treats his work with the respect and reverence that other men lavish over God. To him, insincerity
towards one s work is the worst blasphemy possible. This is the line of thought that runs throughout
the novel.
The hallmark of Roark is work is his complete irreverence for all precedents, traditions and
conventions. His ideas are too revolutionary to be accepted, but he refuses, at any point of time to
compromise with his ideals, no matter what his compulsions may be. He is a man of such immense
integrity, that he would rather break stones in a quarry than make a substandard building. which is
what the world demands of him.
The reason why some people seek to destroy Howard Roark is that his very presence evokes an
unreasonable fear in their hearts. This quest to destroy the genius within him started from the very
beginning of his career when he was expelled from The Stanton institute of Technology, where he had
been studying architecture. All his teachers except his mathematics professor were against him

Catcher In The Rye Banned
Despite being considered a phenomenon by countless individuals, The Catcher in the Rye written by
J.D. Salinger has been argued to be the biggest controversial novel during the 1950 s. The book has
many reasons to banned such as the vulgar language or intense underage drinking along with more.
While most of the world chooses to have this book be banned, I believe that The Catcher in the Rye
doesn t deserve to have the banned reputation that most identify it with.
Salinger writes holden as a rebellious independent teenager which reflects the mood at the time (this
being the 1950 s). Because of this, Salinger s diction throughout Holden s story needs to be vulgar and
controversial to depict a teen during the 50 s. A case of this type of teen ... Show more content on

Some say Catcher in the Rye has rightfully owed the spot of being banned. However, many have
stated that the reasons of the novel being banned are weak and ignorant. One critic named P. J. Corbett
defends the novel by arguing its language is no huge deal. Corbett states Considered in isolation, the
language is crude and profane. It would be difficult to argue, however, that such language is
unfamiliar to our young people or that it is rougher than the language they are accustomed to hear in
the streets among their acquaintances (Raise High the Barriers, Censors Corbett). Corbett uses a very
well expressed argument that despite the vulgar language involved within the book, it is not like one
will go unexposed to this type of language in their lifetime. Especially since the book s intended
audience is teens who are more than familiar with the language. Similarly, Corbett also argues in the
same article, One shouldn t have to remind readers of what Cardinal Newman once said, that we
cannot have a sinless literature about a sinful people (Raise High the Barriers, Censors Corbett).
Corbett continues to argue with using the idea of censorships pretending that our world has no wrong
in it. The idea of excluding something in order to prevent people from reading it shows that people or
so focused on removing things considered

Informative Speech On Epiphany
There are many well known Christmas legends associated with the celebrations. Herein, we present to
you a few famous ones.
Birth of Jesus
Christians around the world celebrate Jesus birth on December 25th Christmas. While the Roman
Catholics and Protestants observe Christmas on December 25th, many others celebrate it on December
24th as well. The members of the Eastern Orthodox Church delay to January 6th, when they observe
Epiphany, a commemoration of the baptism of Jesus. Traditionally, Epiphany is associated with the
Three Wise Men of the East paying a visit to Jesus in Bethlehem, Israel, where they adored the infant
Jesus and gave presents to him like gold, frankincense and myrrh. The official Christmas season

Christians in today s society, light candles during Christmas, to symbolize the birth of Christ; and his
renewing light force that leads his followers on the path of righteousness, chosen by them. This
tradition was borrowed from the Germans tradition of lighting candles in the windows and Christmas

illuminate the way for the Holy Family on their way to Bethlehem. In today s date, this ensures a year
of light, warmth and good bonding in the whole family.
Even non religious holidays use candles for celebration. For example, the non religious holiday of
Kwanzaa uses Kinara, a candleholder. Kinara was introduced after the Watts riots in 1960s. The
Jewish holiday of Hanukkah uses candles to celebrate the two thousand year old triumph of Judas

The American Colonization Society (ACS) was formed in 1817 to send free African Americans to

Commerce was the first economic sector to grow in the colony. However, French and British traders
continually encroached upon Liberian territory. As it was not a sovereign state, it was hard pressed to
defend its economic interests. The U.S. Government lent some diplomatic support, but Britain and
France had territories in West Africa and were better poised to act. As a result, in 1847, Liberia
declared independence from the American Colonization Society in order to establish a sovereign state
and create its own laws governing commerce .
On the other hand, many abolitionists, both black and white, ultimately rejected the notion that it was
impossible for the races to integrate and therefore did not support the idea of an African American
colony in Africa. Still, the ACS had powerful support and its colonization project gained momentum .
In 1816, a group of white Americans founded the American Colonization Society (ACS) to deal with
the problem of the growing number of free blacks in the United States by resettling them in Africa.
The resulting state of Liberia would become the second (after Haiti) black republic in the world at that

The shield in Riddle 5 is written in colloquial register that instantly demonstrates the shield s purpose.
The riddle itself plays with several aspects of the shields identity; it is a heroic object, used vigorously
in battles, but at the same time it s strict defensive nature downgrades its glamourous title of being an

Marriage By David Popenoe And Barbara Dafoe Whitehead...
Marriage: a fairy tale where every moment leads to happiness and everlasting love. In the article What
s Happening to Marriage? the authors David Popenoe and Barbara Dafoe Whitehead reverse the fairy
tale of marriage. The article conveys a different aspect of marriage that marriage is weakening and
divorce is on the rise. The authors believe men and women of this time have more struggles when
marrying one another than when their parents or grandparents got married. The authors arguments are
well supported, but their use of fallacies outweighs their theories. David Popenoe and Barbara Dafoe
Whitehead claim that in today s society marriage is becoming more of a trust issue than previously
thought. They believe marriages have none of these elements: ...an economic bond of mutual
dependency; a social bond supported by the extended family and larger community; and a spiritual
bond upheld by religious doctrine, observance and faith (520). Marriage is becoming more of a
couples relationship and losing meaning in society s culture; therefore, the rate of divorce is increasing
causing people to be cautious of marriage. Popenoe and Whitehead use numerous statistics about
divorce rate; however, they only examine the women s point of view. According to the authors, this is
not the first time marriage has gone to the dumps and recovered causing the authors to delay on
writing marriage s obituary. The authors of the article value a considerable amount of appeals that are

Socrates Stand on Democracy
Reusi 1 Raye Reusi D. Ryals Writing 1 November 14, 2012 Socrates Stand on Democracy Having
emphasized upon me the advantages of democracy, I have always believed that it is the best system to
implement in a country. Ignoring the flaws and weaknesses of this type of system, I thought that the
benefits outweigh all costs. I assume that giving the power to the people is better than having one
person rule the state. However, in Plato s account on the life of his mentor Socrates, we are able to see
both sides of the spectrum: the pros and cons of democracy which are accounted in Plato s dialogues,
the Apology and the Crito. Socrates, having been accused of impiety, is brought to trial in front of the
jury of Athens. In his defense, he points ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yet, he implies that the people would not favor anyone that opposes injustice which seems to be the
common dealings in politics. He believes that he would have died long ago (34), although this is not
his ultimate concern. What he truly cares about is not to do anything unjust or impious (32). Despite
his criticisms on politics, Socrates is essentially reminding the people, especially those in authority, to
serve a just and virtuous life. Outwardly stating the current situation of the government, he aims to
provide the people a portrait of the shallow kind of democracy that they have come to maintain.
Socrates seeks to prompt the majority to uphold the true sense of democracy, of fighting for justice
and living life accordingly. Furthermore, Socrates uses his dialectical approach with his friend Crito in
examining the contrast between the knowledge of the one and the pseudo knowledge of the many . He
uses an analogy of a man involved in physical activities, whom must listen to the advice of the true
expert in his training, rather than the opinions thrown by other people who barely know anything
about these activities. Anyone who places a higher regard to the thoughts of the majority, rather than
to the knowledge of the one who possess it, puts himself on greater harm (47). Socrates adds that if we
disobey the one who seeks to

Creationism Vs. Biochemical Evolution
Creationism vs Biochemical evolution
Creationism is the doctrine which God brings individual human souls into existence at birth.

Frankenstein Revenge Theme Essay
The theme that stuck out to me in this novel Frankenstein is seeking revenge leads to a tragic outcome
. This theme can be seen through the monster killing William. The monster then went on to kill
Elizabeth on her and Victor s big wedding night to get back to Victor. The monster then leads Victor
into a long chase that ends up with a tragic outcome at the end that no one would have expected to
happen. One way that revenge occurs throughout this novel is when the monster takes his trip to
Geneva. While he is there he meets up with Victor s younger brother William. The monster kills
William and puts the locket in Justine s dress pocket, and makes it look like she had killed him and
this leads to the death of Justine. The monster then tells Victory that he needs a companion and that it

doing so. So that brings about the question of how does one categorize doing justice versus doing an
injustice? It may seem obvious to some but may be far from recognizable to others. John Rawls was a
political and moral philosopher that had his own views that helped shape the concepts of social justice.
There are two main principles the Mr. Rawls based his theory off and those are that everyone should
have equal rights and that social and economic inequalities are looked at and applied so that they are a
great benefit of the least advantaged ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thomas Aquinas is a philosopher that discussed the three conditions for a Just War. The first
requirement is that the war must be waged by a person of authority and that it cannot be started by a
private person. The protection of people is for those with authority to handle. The second requirement
is that it must be for a good reason or a just cause. The reason for this is because those who are slain
are being slain for their faults committed. The third requirement is the intention to promote good and
to avoid evil. Thinking about these three requirements, the thought of the most recent wars might
come to mind. Were these three aspects applied before going to war? It is hard to answer that because
there are many details unknown to the general population but most people would say that these were
not applied (Mitchell) (St. Thomas

An Essay About Shark
Have you ever seen a shark s nose as long as Pinocchio s or teeth as scary as Dracula s? Well, I assure
you they re out there. For years, these sharks have lived undetected, and now I expose them and their
very strange lives. The Cookiecutter Shark, Goblin Shark, Japanese Wobbegong, and Prickly Dogfish
Shark have so many interesting characteristics that make them unique.
Do you know what shark has the largest teeth in the world? It s the Cookiecutter Shark! It is called
that because of the cookie shaped wounds that it leaves on the bodies of its prey. They live in warm,
deep waters near islands and equatorial oceans. They stay around 1,000 meters in the day and 300
meters at night. The Cookiecutter Sharks live solitarily unless they need to mate or gang up on larger
prey. Females give birth to 6 to 12 live babies after pregnancy of 12 to 22 months. Babies are able to

They live in very deep waters below 1,300 meters, but come to the surface at night. They live
solitarily like most sharks in the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian. It is believed that they are ovoviviparous
which means that their eggs hatch in the body of the mother, and then she gives live birth to them.
Their body is kind of transparent, because these sharks have translucent skin that enables us to see
their blood vessels and other body parts. Basically, to a certain extent, we can actually see through the
skin of these sharks! They have a blade like nose and fang like teeth. The Goblin Shark can be pinkish
grey to bubblegum pink. The odd looking jaw of the Goblin Shark can expand forward to sweep up
prey that passes by. The jaw is filled with small sharp teeth in the front for grabbing fish, and flatter
teeth in the back for grinding up fish bones. Their average length is 5 feet, but the largest length ever
recorded was 12.6 feet. All this information makes up the essence of the Goblin

Symbolic Language In A Dolls House
Perspective is critical if one is to gain an extensive and detailed understanding of any form of
literature, whether it be their own, a characters, or the authors. In A Doll s House symbolic language
and comparison are used to illustrate the protagonist s perspective in correlation to their situation. This
results in Nora s point of view throughout the play being expressed in a more elaborate manner in
regard to the positive and negative aspects of her life. Her absence of individual thought, the physical
objectification she faces, and lack of significance to others all are all areas further expressed, and will
be areas of further discussion. Ultimately through comparison and symbolism in the language used,
Nora s perspective is further expressed, illustrating the epitome of the title, A Doll s House.
Nora s understanding of how little individuality she possesses is expressed by the symbolic and
comparative language present in the play. The plot clearly displays the role Nora plays in reference to
serving her family, specifically Helmer. While the reader builds their own perspective of the text, an in
depth analysis of the language used by and directed towards Nora provides insight to her own personal
perspective. Nora s initial sentiment of her role is very limited past serving her husband. This is very
clear when she reassures him stating I will do everything to please you Torvald; I will sing and dance

Knight Errantry
The Canon, the Don, and Sancho Panza all have different views on the subject of chivalric romances
and knight errantry. While the Don and the Canon represent the extreme ends of opinions, Sancho
bridges the gap between the two. The Canon believes that books are completely unrealistic. He poses
the question, how can the reader find joy in such absurdities? The Canon sees these novels in a strict
black and white view. He acknowledges that fiction does have a place in literature, however the
Canons says that, These books provide subject matter with which a good intelligence could express
itself... (441). The Canon prides himself in being highly intelligent and feels that only unintelligent
would be able to find pleasure in such blatant lies. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He is not able to dissociate fiction from reality. In the eyes of Don, the novels of knight errantry serve
as a guide for how to live. The Don believes that the knights are role models that all able people
should strive to live by. It is the utmost honor to live the life of a knight errant. He defends all
accounts of knight errantry, and if he happens upon someone who disagrees with his opinions, he
disregards them because he assumes they are not a knight errant and, therefore, would not understand.
When the Canon defamed his precious books the Don replied, I consider that it is you who are out of
your senses and under some spell, for you have taken it upon yourself to utter such blasphemies again
what has been so well received in the world and so widely accepted as the truth that anyone who
denies it, as you do, deserves the same punishment that you say you inflict on books that annoy you
when you read them (453). The Don then continues to combine historic facts with those of his
chivalric fantasy in his explanation to the Canon of reliability of the novels. Don Quixote truly cannot
separate fact from fiction. In the truest sense of insanity, he believes that the novels of night errantry
with their absurd claims are not only plausible, but also

Loser s Club Psychology
The kids don t need a clown to scare them their parents are villainous enough (Nicolauo). The film IT
is relatively horrifying at times and a generally happy character, which in this instance presents itself
as a clown, turns out to be a viscous, shape shifting monster instead. However, a closer look reveals an
evil far more terrifying being that hits close to home for the majority of the Losers Club. The majority
of the adults within the movie IT show their children the true evils of the world and those scars will
always burn deeper than a clown s ever could. The greatest villain in the film in my opinion is Beverly
s father, Mr. Marsh. Although there is not an actual scene of her being sexually abused, there are
plenty of hints that let the mind wander through the horrors she may have experienced in the past. The
scenes the director produces between Beverly and her father is frequently low angle, full shot, closed

The Five Disciplines By Peter Senge
Five Disciplines by Peter Senge are: 1. System thinking. 2. Personal mastery. 3. Mental models. 4.
Shared vision. 5. Team learning. 1. System Thinking: System thinking is nothing but instead of
focusing on only one particular issue, we have to analyze and try to understand the entire system on
the whole. With this kind of analyzation, we can easily find a solution to the problem as the problems
are not confined to only a particular area or time. We might find a solution for a particular issue,
somewhere in the whole system by analyzing the entire system completely. We should try to relate the
actions and the consequences on the whole as the issues occur at different time levels, not confined to
only one particular time level. We have to have knowledge of the relation between different
departments of an organization and the relation between them and the functionality between the
departments as to how they are related in an organization. We generally focus on only one particular
issue rather than seeing the bug picture and that shouldn t be done. In system thinking we analyze the
big picture. 2. Personal Mastery: It is when a person has a clear goal and can analyze the reality, when
these both are combined then the person can achieve Personal mastery. Seeing and telling the truth is
the main and the first thing in personal mastery. With personal mastery we can create rules and
methods necessary to achieve the goal. As per Senge, training and utilizing the powers of

An Analysis of The Pursuit of Happiness
The Pursuit of Happyness Abstract Some of the most common themes in contemporary biographical
films revolve around social life as well as the accompanying problems that living in today s society
entails. By making connections to individual personal lives, these films help most people make sense
of the world in which they live. In this regard, this paper focuses on the film, The Pursuit of
Happyness outlining various cultural issues as well as problems faced by the starring; Will Smith
playing Chris Gardner in the movie. Moreover, the paper discusses how such factual films reflect and
create popular ideas about social problems. Introduction The Pursuit of Happyness is a factual film
based on Chris Gardner s near one year struggle with homelessness, fatherhood, divorce and a desire
to achieve to fend for his son Christopher Junior. It is a story highlighting a man s ambition to achieve
his goals and find a way of caring for his son. Set in San Francisco, the film starts with Gardner
investing his life savings in Bone Density scanners, a white elephant project which financially breaks

Additional problems set in ranging from Gardner s eviction from his house, garnishment of his bank
account as well as his credit cards. In line with this, he is forced to live in the streets but his meeting
with Jay, the manager at Dean Witter places him on the path to success; his new found

Amazon Competitive Advantage
For Amazon to maintain a competitive advantage within the marketplace, Amazon has to focus on
remaining a convenient option for consumers. They need to infiltrate their customers digital
environment. I would suggest that Amazon focus on three things: Strategic Acquisitions and
Partnerships, Fulfillment Center Expansion, and Forward Vertical Integration.
Beyond the highly anticipated package delivery drones and the cashier free grocery stores of Amazon,
there are numerous business segments that help Amazon remain as one of the largest online e
commerce marketplaces. Amazon has set up an empire that has enabled it to continue with highly
lucrative strategies and business opportunities that continually push it forward. Amazon is at the
beginning of an investment cycle, one of Morgan Stanley s financial analysts remarked and also stated
unclear how long this cycle is expected to last.
One of the biggest questions that frequents Amazon is how can Amazon make sure that the growth
potential remains in line with the founding principles and objectives? A few of the more important
pieces of criteria for evaluation include: Growth, consistency with the marketplace, consistency with
the strategy of Amazon and Amazon s shareholders and short term and long term profitability.
Amazon certainly has grand ambitions and is wanting to bring more to its end users than just being
one of the largest online marketplaces. Amazon s second quarter 2017 sales rose 25% to $38 billion.

Artists And The Art Trade
While artists and the art trade were in the business of presenting the new, this was a conceptual
challenge for museums. (Altshuler, 2008, 15). Discuss the challenges that advanced artistic practice
presented for museums in the late 19th and early 20th century.
The period of the second half of the 19th and the beginnings of the 20th century saw some of the most
extensive transformations in the art market and the institution of the art museum in history. With the
rise of the avant garde and new artistic practices, the traditional enlightenment didactic vision of the
museum was put under threat. This essay will focus on the tension between the museum s historicity
and the general tendency to move towards modernity and the discussions ... Show more content on

However, the works acquired were still exclusively under the strict rule of the Academy, operated by
the state. The rise of progressive artists advocating advanced art, pioneered by the likes of Courbet,
Manet and others caused a re evaluation in the system of these principles. The coming of the avant
garde together with the increased commercialisation of art set in motion an increased tension with the
established institutions. Eventually this culminated in the formation of autonomous exhibition spaces
where artists displayed their works separately from the Academy. This tradition began with the Salon
des Refusés in 1863 and extended to establish a parallel to that which would have been traditionally
the role of the state museums as the academy continued to turn away from progressive art practices.
Although some of the contemporary works were acquired by the state, it was not until 1896 that the
Luxembourg agreed to exhibits works of the impressionists, and it would be even later when state run
institutions would acknowledge the full extent of the modern art tradition.
In the span of the last decades of the 19th century, art in Europe began to focus itself on new
developments in artistic practice. Exhibitions such as the

Why Is The Transcontinental Railroad Important For...
1) The Transcontinental Railroad was important, as it was the first railroad that connected both the
East and West coasts, and it made a quicker, more efficient way to transport people and goods to
different places. It cut travel time from a minimum of 3 months (and often a year)down to a week. The
transcontinental railroad was important for westward expansion for an obvious reason. It made
traveling west easier and cheaper. It also facilitated west ward expansion in more subtle, but equally if
not more important ways. The transcontinental railroad created a vast amount of jobs for people
working on the railroads as well as for people working to feed, clothe, and house these railroad
workers.
2) U.S. industry grew and agriculture expanded westward to feed the growing populations of
industrial cities. The United States was the largest free trade market in the world. Northern and
Midwestern populations grew much faster than those of the South and the expansion of the nation s
railroad system tied those two regions closely together. A large part of the industrial expansion during
the post Civil War years was based on connecting the industrial northeast with the farm and grazing
areas of the Midwest and Plains states and completing the transcontinental railroads. ... Show more

Mexican Migrant Workers and Lynch Culture Essay
Mexican Migrant Workers and Lynch Culture
More than a million agricultural workers migrated to the United States in the early twentieth century.
The majority of these persons found work on small family farms in California; the white owners of
these farms welcomed cheap labor. Although most migrant workers in California today are of Mexican
descent, they originally came from all over the world: East and West Europe, China, Japan, Korea and
Latin America, along with Mexico. The shift to almost exclusively Mexican migrant workers in the
early 1900s was intentional. Growers at this time anticipated racial conflicts between the immigrating

The Texas Rangers were infamous for their brutality. In the name of justice they executed thousands
of Mexican migrant workers without any repercussions. As early as the late 1800s, the Rangers began
their violent attempt at repression. Onofrio Baca, a Mexican migrant worker, was arrested in 1881 on
the suspicion of murder. The Rangers arrested him and promptly had him lynched, his body left to
hang for days in front of the courthouse. [3]
Though the Rangers were the most well known law enforcement agency attacking the Mexican
immigrant, they were not alone. For example, Jesus Romo was being held in custody by officers in
California when he was taken by a group of masked men and hanged. [4] The majority of the Mexican
Americans lynched between 1848 and 1870 were already in custody when they were taken and
hanged. Records indicate 473 out of every 100,000 Mexican migrant workers during this time period
died as victims of a lynching. [5]
Over one hundred years have passed since the beginning of large scale Mexican migrant worker
immigration, yet groups in San Diego County, and other border towns are still fighting to embrace the
lynch culture created by the Texas Rangers and similar organizations. Groups such as The Arizona

The World s Wife By. Duffy
As suggested by the title of the anthology, Duffy s poems within The World s Wife place the focus on
women in an inherently patriarchal and male dominated world. This is also true of Mrs Beast , in
which Duffy reimagines the traditional fairy tale of The Beauty and the Beast to give Mrs Beast
dominance over her husband, as well as financial and emotional independence. The opening lines of
Mrs Beast set the tone for the rest of the poem, linking all of the characters mentioned throughout The
World s Wife , as well as listing many other women with stories that would fit the themes of the
sequence due to their exploitation by men. This acts as a warning to men from Mrs Beast, who sees
these women in herself, commenting: so when you ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This inversion of the traditional roles in a fairytale is also present throughout the rest of the stanza, as
Mrs Beast describes herself as no longer a girl, knowing my own mind, / my own gold stashed in the
bank, / my own black horse at the gates , demonstrating that she is able to take care of herself with no
need for help. Moreover, her financial and emotional independence is highlighted by the anaphora of
my own , with repetition similar to this used by Duffy throughout The World s Wife , particularly in
Little Red Cap . However, the effect of the use of anaphora in Mrs Beast contrasts with its effect in
Little Red Cap at the beginning of the sequence, which describes a girl progressing from innocence
and naivety at childhood s end to saving herself and becoming independent ten years later. Despite
these differences, both poems similarly reimagine fairytales, with Mrs Beast being what Little Red
Cap could grow up to become with her new found independence, as Mrs Beast demonstrates her
ability to take care of herself and be carried off at one wrong word, / one false move, one dirty look .
In juxtaposition with this, the Beast is presented as submissive and similar to a slave rather than as the
traditional handsome and arrogant prince of fairytales. He is treated and described as an animal
instead of a person, falling to his knees at the door for Mrs Beast and kiss(ing) her glove with his
mongrel lips , reflecting his

teachers and 7 children.
Teacher directed experience This observation part took place during circle time. The children sat down
in a large circle carpet, each on a letter. One of the teachers sat directly across the children, with her
back facing the calendar. The other teacher sat down in between two children. All the windows were
open and there was music playing softly in the background, as they got ready to start. Teacher began
by singing and playing the Good morning song, while signing the song. Children follow the teacher
and began to sing, and make movements with their hands to follow along. They proceeded by singing
the days of the week, months of the year, What s the weather songs. Following by going over the
seasons, month and day of the week. Consequently, teacher followed by reading a story for the
children. She used a felt board to assist her with the story. She read, Five Little Monkeys Jumping on
the Bed. She smiled as she told the story, and tucked the monkeys behind her back as they fell off.
Teacher provided opportunities for children to collaborate on solving how many monkeys were left.

Individualism In Dead Poets Society, And Dead Poet Society
Transcendentalists in the 1830s challenged society s normality. They broke stereotypes and began not
depending their actions according to others. Director Peter Weir and Author Ralph Waldo Emerson
wrote about transcendentalist s ideals of education to rebel against commonly accepted behavior.
Transecdiliasts assured and trusted themselves that the outcome is for the better. Similarly, in the film,
Dead Poets Society, Mr. John Keating teaches an English class navigating the class through the
uncertainties of life. The boys in Keating s class, discover themselves and begin to live life focusing
on their passions. Self Reliance, is an essay about expressing your individualism and overcoming the
social expectations in life. Together they both share the fundamental virtues that to a live successful
life with no regrets, one must trust their self identity and carpe diem. For one to live a life with no
regrets they must fully embrace themselves self in trusting oneself allows one to them fully accept
who they are and express it. In the film, Dead Poets society, people can see Mr. Keating s unquie type
of teaching style. Neil Perry, one of the brightest students at Welton Academy, obtains a new type of
perspective from this unusual English class and decides to try out for the school performance. He gets

The Narrative Of The Life Of Olaudah Equiano s ``...
Slavery for many was a time of despair and anguish, it felt like hell not only by the heat of the sun,
but, by the treatment many received from their owners as well. Despite written almost 100 years apart,
two of the most famous and well known slave narratives that give the modern day reader just an idea
of what slavery was like are, Aphra Behn s Oroonoko, or, The Royal Slave and Olaudah Equiano s
The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano . The journey of these two young men,
although in many ways are similar, from a larger perspective could not be more different. For
Oroonoko a somewhat established young man who comes from royalty, optimizes what it means to be
a noble savage. As for a young Equiano who seems to spend most of his childhood in slavery, must
find a way to overcome the hand he has been dealt and work hard to earn his freedom. Throughout
both of these stories there are similarities and there are differences as well. Some of the most
interesting aspects that might stand out to the reader are, the aspect of slavery and or the lack of it,
suicide and how both characters go about it in their own way and points of view and how the reader is
influenced by it. One of the aspects that seems most intriguing in both of these stories is that of
slavery and or the lack of it. It is obvious that throughout both stories, Oroonoko and Equiano are very
much surrounded by slavery, however throughout both stories the two main characters never seem to

Five Reasons Your AC Repair
AC Repair: Five Reasons Your AC May Need Repair
In the Florida heat, the best way to keep your cool daily is to ensure that the home s AC system is
operating properly whenever you click it on at the thermostat. Your system will require periodic
service throughout its lifespan to keep it working at peak efficiency. Even with this regular service,
there are still times that your system will need repairing or replacing. We provide five reasons below
that the AC may need a repair.
1. Improper Drainage of Condensation Will Cause Issues
When the evaporator drain line develops a clog, it will cause condensation to build up in the drain pan.
Once the water is high enough, it will trigger a sensor that shuts off the blower. In addition, the drain
pan can overflow if it overfills and this may lead to damage to the floor underneath the blower. If your
blower is in the attic as other ones are today, this may lead to ... Show more content on

When this filter is full, the airflow cannot freely move into the blower, and this will cause it to stop
working in a proper manner. Certain filters are disposable while others are permanent, cleanable ones.
Whichever your system has, you should clean or change your filter every 30 to 60 days. Blowers can
completely breakdown from this problem when you neglect to follow this recommendation. Another
issue that may cause insufficient airflow in your system is greenery or other items too near to your
condenser unit outdoors. Keep the area around this unit open to allow the air to flow freely.
4. The Condenser Fan Quits Running
At times, the condenser fan quits running, and this stops air from flowing through the unit properly.
One reason that this issue may occur is that the capacitor needs replacing. The other reason for this to
happen is that the fan motor is not operational.

  • 2. Paulie Malignaggi Research Paper Former IBF light welterweight and WBA welterweight titlist Paulie Malignaggi (33 7, 7 KOs) is reportedly hanging up his gloves after a devastating ninth round technical knockout loss to up and coming fighter Danny Garcia (31 0, 18 KOs), as per Boxing News 24. The Brooklyn native announced his intention to retire after a 14 year fighting career during the post fight interview on Saturday at the Barclays Center in New York. He also expressed his desire to continue a career either as a boxing commentator or analyst during live broadcasts. I m probably not fighting again, Malignaggi said, as reported by ESPN. You hate to make an emotional decision. My career started in Brooklyn 14 years ago. If it ends in Brooklyn tonight, then at least I ended it at home, where I m from, and in front of the greatest fans in the world. I ve got a really good job commentating and watching great fighters fight ringside. I hope to sit around ringside for a long time. The 27 year old Garcia completely dominated the fight and ... While he may still be called for tune up fights with come backing boxers or turning point matches with rising stars like Garcia, the best place for Malignaggi now is behind the microphone at ringside. • 4. Genetic Transformation Of Genetic Dna Genetic transformation occurs when an organism s genetic makeup is altered due to the introduction of new genetic information which is then incorporated into the organism s genome. In this lab the pGLO plasmid is introduced into E. Coli bacteria, and incorporates the genes which code for the GFP and beta lactamase to the bacteria s genome which as a result will be modified. To test the effects of the plasmid, bacteria treated with the plasmid were grown on separate plates, the first containing LB nutrient broth and ampicillin, another containing LB nutrient broth and arabinose and another containing LB nutrient broth, ampicillin and arabinose. Two more plates were grown, one with LB nutrient broth and ampicillin and the other with only the LB broth, using cells that did not contain the plasmid. Since the lab was about genetic transformation, the goal was to find which plate would glow. It was found that the plates that were not exposed to the plasmid did not glow, and the plates containing LB and arabinose and LB, ampicillin and arabinose did glow. The plates containing ampicillin, the antibiotic that kills E. coli did not grow whereas the remaining plates at least had some growth. Introduction Transformation is the directed modification of a genome by the external application of DNA from a cell of different genotype (Griffiths and Miller).Bacterial transformation is the easiest type of transformation to create and study due to the single cellularity of bacteria and its ... It deals with great talent and great mediocrity, with great love and great hatred, with great ambition and equally great complacence. It unpretentiously chooses to steer clear of the much hyped common man, with his commonplace dreams and aspirations. The theme of The Fountainhead can be summarized in the famous line by the author man s ego is the fountainhead of human progress . The novel exalts egotism, which is generally looked upon in our world with great dislike. The protagonist, Howard Roark, is a man used by the author to exemplify this philosophy. He believes that man alone has power over himself He does not believe in God or in destiny, simple because he doesn t need to. In order to be truly great a man must be physically, mentally and spiritually be involved in his work, the way Roark was. Roark treats his work with the respect and reverence that other men lavish over God. To him, insincerity towards one s work is the worst blasphemy possible. This is the line of thought that runs throughout the novel. The hallmark of Roark is work is his complete irreverence for all precedents, traditions and conventions. His ideas are too revolutionary to be accepted, but he refuses, at any point of time to compromise with his ideals, no matter what his compulsions may be. He is a man of such immense integrity, that he would rather break stones in a quarry than make a substandard building. which is what the world demands of him. The reason why some people seek to destroy Howard Roark is that his very presence evokes an unreasonable fear in their hearts. This quest to destroy the genius within him started from the very beginning of his career when he was expelled from The Stanton institute of Technology, where he had been studying architecture. • 6. Catcher In The Rye Banned Despite being considered a phenomenon by countless individuals, The Catcher in the Rye written by J.D. Salinger has been argued to be the biggest controversial novel during the 1950 s. The book has many reasons to banned such as the vulgar language or intense underage drinking along with more. While most of the world chooses to have this book be banned, I believe that The Catcher in the Rye doesn t deserve to have the banned reputation that most identify it with. Salinger writes holden as a rebellious independent teenager which reflects the mood at the time (this being the 1950 s). Because of this, Salinger s diction throughout Holden s story needs to be vulgar and controversial to depict a teen during the 50 s. A case of this type of teen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some say Catcher in the Rye has rightfully owed the spot of being banned. However, many have stated that the reasons of the novel being banned are weak and ignorant. One critic named P. J. Corbett defends the novel by arguing its language is no huge deal. Corbett states Considered in isolation, the language is crude and profane. It would be difficult to argue, however, that such language is unfamiliar to our young people or that it is rougher than the language they are accustomed to hear in the streets among their acquaintances (Raise High the Barriers, Censors Corbett). Corbett uses a very well expressed argument that despite the vulgar language involved within the book, it is not like one will go unexposed to this type of language in their lifetime. Especially since the book s intended audience is teens who are more than familiar with the language. Similarly, Corbett also argues in the same article, One shouldn t have to remind readers of what Cardinal Newman once said, that we cannot have a sinless literature about a sinful people (Raise High the Barriers, Censors Corbett). Corbett continues to argue with using the idea of censorships pretending that our world has no wrong in it. As a result, in 1847, Liberia declared independence from the American Colonization Society in order to establish a sovereign state and create its own laws governing commerce . On the other hand, many abolitionists, both black and white, ultimately rejected the notion that it was impossible for the races to integrate and therefore did not support the idea of an African American colony in Africa. Still, the ACS had powerful support and its colonization project gained momentum . • 13. Marriage By David Popenoe And Barbara Dafoe Whitehead... Marriage: a fairy tale where every moment leads to happiness and everlasting love. In the article What s Happening to Marriage? the authors David Popenoe and Barbara Dafoe Whitehead reverse the fairy tale of marriage. The article conveys a different aspect of marriage that marriage is weakening and divorce is on the rise. The authors believe men and women of this time have more struggles when marrying one another than when their parents or grandparents got married. The authors arguments are well supported, but their use of fallacies outweighs their theories. David Popenoe and Barbara Dafoe Whitehead claim that in today s society marriage is becoming more of a trust issue than previously thought. They believe marriages have none of these elements: ...an economic bond of mutual dependency; a social bond supported by the extended family and larger community; and a spiritual bond upheld by religious doctrine, observance and faith (520). Marriage is becoming more of a couples relationship and losing meaning in society s culture; therefore, the rate of divorce is increasing causing people to be cautious of marriage. Popenoe and Whitehead use numerous statistics about divorce rate; however, they only examine the women s point of view. According to the authors, this is not the first time marriage has gone to the dumps and recovered causing the authors to delay on writing marriage s obituary. Ryals Writing 1 November 14, 2012 Socrates Stand on Democracy Having emphasized upon me the advantages of democracy, I have always believed that it is the best system to implement in a country. Ignoring the flaws and weaknesses of this type of system, I thought that the benefits outweigh all costs. I assume that giving the power to the people is better than having one person rule the state. However, in Plato s account on the life of his mentor Socrates, we are able to see both sides of the spectrum: the pros and cons of democracy which are accounted in Plato s dialogues, the Apology and the Crito. Socrates, having been accused of impiety, is brought to trial in front of the jury of Athens. In his defense, he points ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Yet, he implies that the people would not favor anyone that opposes injustice which seems to be the common dealings in politics. He believes that he would have died long ago (34), although this is not his ultimate concern. What he truly cares about is not to do anything unjust or impious (32). Despite his criticisms on politics, Socrates is essentially reminding the people, especially those in authority, to serve a just and virtuous life. Outwardly stating the current situation of the government, he aims to provide the people a portrait of the shallow kind of democracy that they have come to maintain. Socrates seeks to prompt the majority to uphold the true sense of democracy, of fighting for justice and living life accordingly. Furthermore, Socrates uses his dialectical approach with his friend Crito in examining the contrast between the knowledge of the one and the pseudo knowledge of the many . He uses an analogy of a man involved in physical activities, whom must listen to the advice of the true expert in his training, rather than the opinions thrown by other people who barely know anything about these activities. Anyone who places a higher regard to the thoughts of the majority, rather than to the knowledge of the one who possess it, puts himself on greater harm (47). I ll leave you to unpack, said Mr Frobisher. Have a look around the place. When you hear the dinner gong, you ve got five minutes to be at the house. Use the back door. The silence yelled in the emptiness of the room. I d forgotten how silence felt. It didn t exist at the orphanage. During the day, shrieks of children s laughter, chattering, clangs from the kitchen and the hum of the vacuum cleaner packed the air. At night, rhythmic breathing, coughs and creaking bedsprings gave constant background ambiance. Here, birds outside twittered in the trees and leaves rustled softly in the breeze. A horse snorted in a nearby paddock. Sounds floated past, without sharp intrusion into the room. The breeze refreshed and calmed me. I hoisted my suitcase onto the bed. This theme can be seen through the monster killing William. The monster then went on to kill Elizabeth on her and Victor s big wedding night to get back to Victor. The monster then leads Victor into a long chase that ends up with a tragic outcome at the end that no one would have expected to happen. One way that revenge occurs throughout this novel is when the monster takes his trip to Geneva. While he is there he meets up with Victor s younger brother William. It may seem obvious to some but may be far from recognizable to others. John Rawls was a political and moral philosopher that had his own views that helped shape the concepts of social justice. Symbolic Language In A Dolls House Perspective is critical if one is to gain an extensive and detailed understanding of any form of literature, whether it be their own, a characters, or the authors. In A Doll s House symbolic language and comparison are used to illustrate the protagonist s perspective in correlation to their situation. This results in Nora s point of view throughout the play being expressed in a more elaborate manner in regard to the positive and negative aspects of her life. Her absence of individual thought, the physical objectification she faces, and lack of significance to others all are all areas further expressed, and will be areas of further discussion. Ultimately through comparison and symbolism in the language used, Nora s perspective is further expressed, illustrating the epitome of the title, A Doll s House. Nora s understanding of how little individuality she possesses is expressed by the symbolic and comparative language present in the play. The plot clearly displays the role Nora plays in reference to serving her family, specifically Helmer. While the reader builds their own perspective of the text, an in depth analysis of the language used by and directed towards Nora provides insight to her own personal perspective. He defends all accounts of knight errantry, and if he happens upon someone who disagrees with his opinions, he disregards them because he assumes they are not a knight errant and, therefore, would not understand. • 29. The Five Disciplines By Peter Senge Five Disciplines by Peter Senge are: 1. System thinking. 2. Personal mastery. 3. Mental models. 4. Shared vision. 5. Team learning. 1. System Thinking: System thinking is nothing but instead of focusing on only one particular issue, we have to analyze and try to understand the entire system on the whole. With this kind of analyzation, we can easily find a solution to the problem as the problems are not confined to only a particular area or time. We might find a solution for a particular issue, somewhere in the whole system by analyzing the entire system completely. We should try to relate the actions and the consequences on the whole as the issues occur at different time levels, not confined to only one particular time level. We have to have knowledge of the relation between different departments of an organization and the relation between them and the functionality between the departments as to how they are related in an organization. We generally focus on only one particular issue rather than seeing the bug picture and that shouldn t be done. In system thinking we analyze the big picture. 2. Personal Mastery: It is when a person has a clear goal and can analyze the reality, when these both are combined then the person can achieve Personal mastery. Seeing and telling the truth is the main and the first thing in personal mastery. With personal mastery we can create rules and methods necessary to achieve the goal. As per Senge, training and utilizing the powers of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The rise of progressive artists advocating advanced art, pioneered by the likes of Courbet, Manet and others caused a re evaluation in the system of these principles. The coming of the avant garde together with the increased commercialisation of art set in motion an increased tension with the established institutions. Eventually this culminated in the formation of autonomous exhibition spaces where artists displayed their works separately from the Academy. This tradition began with the Salon des Refusés in 1863 and extended to establish a parallel to that which would have been traditionally the role of the state museums as the academy continued to turn away from progressive art practices. The transcontinental railroad created a vast amount of jobs for people working on the railroads as well as for people working to feed, clothe, and house these railroad workers. 2) U.S. industry grew and agriculture expanded westward to feed the growing populations of industrial cities. This is also true of Mrs Beast , in which Duffy reimagines the traditional fairy tale of The Beauty and the Beast to give Mrs Beast dominance over her husband, as well as financial and emotional independence. The opening lines of Mrs Beast set the tone for the rest of the poem, linking all of the characters mentioned throughout The World s Wife , as well as listing many other women with stories that would fit the themes of the sequence due to their exploitation by men. Moreover, her financial and emotional independence is highlighted by the anaphora of my own , with repetition similar to this used by Duffy throughout The World s Wife , particularly in Little Red Cap . However, the effect of the use of anaphora in Mrs Beast contrasts with its effect in Little Red Cap at the beginning of the sequence, which describes a girl progressing from innocence and naivety at childhood s end to saving herself and becoming independent ten years later. Despite these differences, both poems similarly reimagine fairytales, with Mrs Beast being what Little Red Cap could grow up to become with her new found independence, as Mrs Beast demonstrates her ability to take care of herself and be carried off at one wrong word, / one false move, one dirty look . In juxtaposition with this, the Beast is presented as submissive and similar to a slave rather than as the traditional handsome and arrogant prince of fairytales.
