The document provides guidance on writing a case study analysis. It begins by defining a case study as an analysis of a real-life situation or event using concepts learned in a course. It explains that case studies are used to develop an understanding of a real case and make a decision about it. The document then provides examples of case study topics and sources of information. It offers tips for critically reading a case study and constructing an analysis grid to pull out key details. Finally, it provides guidance on structuring a case study report or essay and writing an introduction. The overall document serves as a useful guide for students on how to approach a case study assignment.

Learning Objectives Covered:
1. Identify spirometry equipment and testing techniques used to perform pulmonary function testing.
2. Recognize normal and abnormal spirometry results.
Media
Please make sure you review the media for week four before beginning your work this week.
Background
Pulmonary function testing is a great tool that can provide valuable diagnostic and treatment information about the respiratory system. Various measurements are available to aid in the diagnosis and assessment of pulmonary diseases; determine the need for therapy; and evaluate the effectiveness of respiratory care. For respiratory therapists, knowledge of these tests and the ability to interpret the measurements are essential for assessing patients objectively and for planning and implementing effective patient care.
Prompt
Provide detailed responses to the following:
1. Pulmonary function tests measure lung functions in many ways. Define the following terms:
1. Tidal volume (VT)
2. Minute volume (MV)
3. Vital capacity (VC)
4. Forced vital capacity (FVC)
5. Forced expiratory volume (FEV)
6. Forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1)
7. Flow volume loop
8. Total lung capacity (TLC)
9. Peak expiratory flow rate (PEFR)
2. What is the FEV1% and what does it tell us about the patient's pulmonary status in the presence of a decreased FEV1?
3. Which measure of pulmonary function is the most definitive in distinguishing a pulmonary restrictive disorder from an obstructive disorder and why?
4. A patient’s bedside spirometry results (as compared to normal) are as follows:
· FVC decreased
· FEV1 normal
· FEV1% increased.
What is the most likely general diagnosis?

ASCI 357 – SAMPLE Case Analysis
Robust Airline Schedule Planning
I. Summary
The construction of timetables for an airline is composed of aircraft and crew (Dunbar,
Froyland, and Wu, 2012). Crew cost is the biggest controllable expenditure for an airline, and
effective crew assignment is a very important aspect of planning (Gopalakrishnan and Johnson,
2005). Wensveen (2011) defines “airline scheduling as the art of designing system wide flight
patterns that provide optimum public service, in both quantity and quality, consistent with the
financial health of the carrier” (p. 360). An airline’s decision to offer certain flights is
dependent on market demand forecasts, available aircraft operating characteristics, available
work force, regulations, and the behaviour of competing airlines (Bazargan, 2010, p.31).
II. Problem
The problem is that the airline scheduling process in its entirety is very complex (Dunbar,
et al., 2012). Flight scheduling is the starting point for all other airline planning and operations
(Bazargan, 2010, p.31).
III. Significance of the Problem
The significance of the problem is that a vast number of rules and regulations associated
with airports, aircraft, and flight crews combined with the global expanse of air traffic networks,
require airline scheduling to be broken into manageable, traceable pieces (Dunbar, et al., 2012).
In 2006, the North American airline industry experienced a total of 116.5 million minutes of
delay, totalling a $7.7 billion increase in operating costs (Dunbar, et al., 2012).
IV. Development of Alternative Actions
Alternative Action 1. Airline and railway mode of transportation industries to form an
intermodal alliance (Iatrou and Oretti, 2007, p.88).
Case Analysis Guidelines by: Dr. Dave Worrells and Mr. Scott Burgess | ERAU, College of Aeronautics 2
Advantages. Access to airports through dedicated public transport could reduce
problems associated with road traffic and air quality around airports (Iatrou & Oretti, 2007, pp.
88-89). Iatrou & Oretti (2007) suggest an intermodal alliance near airports for better access to
city centers (p.89).
Disadvantages. The absence of interconnectivity, where air and rail industry have
different infrastructures with common rules and facilities (Iatrou & Oretti, 2007, p.89). High-
speed rail links to airports are not profitable in the short-term (Iatrou & Oretti, 2007, p.90).
Alternative Action 2: Increase flight schedules by extra minutes to boost on-time performance
(McCartney, 2012).
Advantages. Passengers would spend less time on aircraft (McCartney, 2012). Airlines
will have fewer planes sitting at terminal gates awaiting connecting passengers (McCartney,
2012).
Disadvantages. An aircraft departing late for a flight will run late for the r.

7-1 Final Project Template Example
The Final Project for NUR-300 compiles all of the information that the student has presented in Milestones One through Four. This template with attempt to give the student an example of all of the parts that are to be graded in the rubric.
In many hospitals worldwide nurse and patient safety is placed at risk due to unsafe staffing conditions (Pearce et al., 2018). An unsafe staffing condition arises when nurses become responsible for more patients than they are equipped to care for adequately. This can occur due to short staffing related to call outs or even a high rate of turnover on a specific unit. This unsafe nurse to patient ratio that is occurring results in care that is rushed which can cause both medical and medication errors. Additionally, nurses do not have time to properly utilize the nursing process and the outcomes of goals are not always achieved in a timely manner.
Further review of existing research is necessary in order to determine why these unsafe working conditions are so prevalent. It is important to understand the many factors that affect nurse staffing in order to adequately implement actions to change the problem (Young, White, & Dorrington, 2018). This paper will provide an overview of the unsafe staffing issue for nurses. It will also look at the many aspects of healthcare that are affected by the problem. A literature review will begin the paper to show the correlation between the supportive references and the nursing issue. Following this will be information that presents the ethical, legal, and licensure implications of this topic in nursing. Two conceptual frameworks will be reviewed to show their connection to the nursing issue, and finally the issue will be reviewed in a comprehensive conclusion.
Literature Review
The literature review is the first part of the Final Project. It is important because it shows that there is evidence-based, peer-reviewed documentation that shows the importance of the issue. This section should include an explanation about the journals, databases and other sources that were used to find the literature that was used. To achieve “Exemplary” some insight should be included as to the importance of the professional databases and their appropriateness. This section should also include an explanation of the process that was used to choose the literature. This should include the process that was used including: key words, date ranges, and narrowing of the selection of literature findings. Keen insight into this part makes for an “Exemplary” score.
Article One
Each of the important literature pieces should be reviewed. I recommend that this should be limited to five for this paper. The authors and title should be included in this part. M.

What is a critique? Simply stated, a critique is a critical analysis undertaken for some purpose. Nurses critique research for three main reasons: to improve their practice, to broaden their understanding, and to provide a base for the conduct of a study.
When the purpose is to improve practice, nurses must give special consideration to questions such as these:
· Are the research findings appropriate to my practice setting and situation?
· What further research or pilot studies need to be done, if any, before incorporating findings into practice to assure both safety and effectiveness?
· How might a proposed change in practice trigger changes in other aspects of practice?
To help you synthesize your learning throughout this course and prepare you to utilize research in your practice, you will be critiquing a qualitative, quantitative, or mixed-methods research study of your choice.
If the article is unavailable in a full-text version through the Walden University Library, you must e-mail the article as a PDF or Word attachment to your Instructor.
MIXED-METHODS RESEARCH CRITIQUE
1. Research Issue and Purpose
What is the research question or issue of the referenced study? What is its purpose? (Sometimes ONLY the purpose is stated clearly and the question must be inferred from the introductory discussion of the purpose.)
1. Researcher Pre-understandings and / or Hypotheses and Research Questions
Does the article include a discussion of the researcher’s pre-understandings? What does the article disclose about the researcher’s professional and personal perspectives on the research problem? What are the hypotheses (or research questions/objectives) of the study? (Sometimes the hypotheses or study questions are listed in the Results section, rather than preceding the report of the methodology used. Occasionally, there will be no mention of hypotheses, but anytime there are inferential statistics used, the reader can recognize what the hypotheses are from looking at the results of statistical analysis.)
2. Literature Review
What is the quality of the literature review? Is the literature review current, relevant? Is there evidence that the author critiqued the literature or merely reported it without critique? Is there an integrated summary of the current knowledge base regarding the research problem, or does the literature review contain opinion or anecdotal articles without any synthesis or summary of the whole? (Sometimes the literature review is incorporated into the introductory section without being explicitly identified.)
3. Theoretical or Conceptual Framework
Is a theoretical or conceptual framework identified? If so, what is it? Is it a nursing framework or one drawn from another.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

The impact of sleep on a pilot’s performance has attracted the interest
of both aviation authorities and researchers for some time. One specific
factor, sleep inertia which is the physiological state that immediately
follows awakening has been found to impair mental and manual
operations. Sleep inertia has been linked to a number of aviation
incidents involving pilot error. This case study will analyse the role sleep
inertia may have played in the crash of Air India Express Flight IX-812 at
Mangalore in India on May 22nd 2010. The report of the subsequent
Court of Inquiry along with literature relating to sleep inertia will form
the basis of the analysis. First, research findings about sleep inertia
generally, and sleep inertia in aviation specifically, will be examined. An
account of this particular incident and the major findings of the Court of
Inquiry will then be provided. Next a discussion of the impact of sleep
inertia played in this incident and the lessons that can be learnt from
this will be presented. Finally, recommendations for how such incidents
can be avoided in the future are made.

Boynton (1982, p. 79) warns the reader that ordinary
chocolate is ‘too frail to withstand heat, moisture and
proximity to baked beans’.
Hanks (2004, p. 257) defines an idiom as an expression

Smith (2005) disagrees with Fry (2003) when she
maintains that many students have trouble with reporting

Some people subscribe to the idea that chocolate is

This paper investigates the effects of alcohol on memory

15. One factor which may contribute to this chronic fatigue among pilots
is the extended flight duty period associated with long-haul,
international flights. In particular, pilots of these flights are likely to
have duty periods in excess of 8 h and thus are at the greatest risk for
performance impairment due to fatigue (Rosekind et al. 1995). For
example, a 9-h flight may involve a duty period of 12 h or more.
Justifying concerns with regard to the potential dangers associated
with these long-haul flights and extended duty periods, Goode (2003)
examined the records of accidents in commercial aviation between
1978 and 1999 and found a significant relationship between flight
duration and frequency of accidents. Additionally, pilots have reported
increasing fatigue across the duration of the flight (Gundel et al. 1995;
Petrilli et al. 2006), suggesting that the combination of time-on-task
fatigue (Samel et al. 1997) and the strong drive to sleep after someone
has been awake for a long period of time (that is, homeostatic sleep
pressure) may lead to a serious deterioration in the pilots’ alertness
and performance. However, several other factors have

17. This case study examined the role sleep inertia may have
played in the crash of Air India Express Flight IX-812 at
Mangalore in India on May 22nd 2010. Studies of human
factors in aviation have shown that a variety of factors
influence the severity and duration of sleep inertia. These
factors include depth of sleep, timing of sleep and chemical
influences. If a crew member is awakened from a deep sleep,
then it is likely their reaction time performance will be
adversely affected. This appeared to be the case for Air India
Express Flight IX-812 where the Captain was in a long sleep
during the flight. As a result, upon awakening, the Captain’s
judgment appeared to have been impaired, resulting in a series
of poor decisions. This case highlights the need for an effective
Fatigue Risk Management System (FRMS) and a Crew Resource
Management (CRM) system, along with focused training to
ensure crew are fully aware of the impact of sleep inertia on
performance, particularly decision making.

19. Conclusion – Moving from specific to general
7. In conclusion, it is apparent that the most effective element in teaching
of English articles is the reinforcement of the notion of countability.
4. The evidence presented here suggests that learners do not use
articles randomly, but that they choose articles according to whether or
not the noun is countable.
3. The concept of definiteness in relation to articles remains, however,
more problematic, and needs further investigation.
1. Despite these problems, it is possible for teachers to make a positive
contribution to learners’ knowledge in this important area.

The Recommendations are actions to be implemented as a result of the
conclusions.
Conclusion = Patient has an ulcer
Recommendation = Patient to take medicine + stop smoking
• A report prepared for information purposes only will have no
Recommendations section
• A report prepared for persuasion purposes will have a Recommendations
section - no point in persuading someone of the need for action if no
recommendations are given
• In an essay answer the recommendations may be included in the conclusion
• Recommendations should not include further results, analysis, discussion or
conclusions
• The Recommendations section should be simple action list.
Eg: Do action X, build factory Y, delete product Z.
21. Recommendations
Based on the main findings of this case study, it is
recommended that:
CRM training and refreshers for all flight crew should be
conducted as required by DGCA vide Operations Circular
No 2 of 2001
CRM training must include both classroom and simulator
training
- Relate back to the issues discussed in the Conclusion.
-
Are stated briefly but clearly
-
Are expressed as action statements or directives to do
something
-
Use persuasive or firm language such as ‘must’, ‘ought to’
etc.
