The Impact Of Immigration On The New Country
III. Literature Review
Amongst current events, immigration is one of the hotly debated topics of today. It s will be a
determining factor in the current U.S. presidential race. Hispanic/Latino immigrants are one of the
fastest growing demographics in our populations and consideration of political value due to their
impact on and to the economy. Their ethnicity makes them the subject of random criticism and plays a
role in how well they assimilate into the US. How they are perceived and treated while trying to build
a new life with dreams, like many Americans, of a better life, will also play a crucial role in how they
adapt to their new surroundings.
Assimilating into a country you know nothing about and where you may not have family or support is
challenging for anyone. This article discusses how when viewed by the people in the new country see
you may be the determining factor in ease or difficulty of the assimilation process. How you see
yourself in comparison to others in the new country may also impact how you feel about yourself and
your culture whether it is a positive or negative. For many of us, the label, whether Latino/Latina or
Hispanic, takes away our nationality and symbolizes a loss of identity. (McGoldrick, Giordano, Garcia
Preto, 2005) How Latinos identify themselves is easier question posed then answered. The U.S.
government, as well as psychological researchers, often required individuals to select from a
confusing set of options that define

Environmental Protection Is A Trending Topic
Environmental protection is a trending topic not only in industries but also in architectures. Finding a
solution that could minimum the pollution to surrounding environment and save the resources at the
same time is crucial for architects in the process of design. Large amount of architects accepted the
practice of involving more daylight in their architects to save more resources. An abundant supply of
natural lighting can also save money and improve the visual quality of the environment. However, for
buildings with different functions, the usage and requirement of light are also different, in particular,
the libraries and art museums.
The development of a new architectural form, museums, had greatly changed the traditional classical
architectures into innovative modern architectures. Jayne Merkel, a historian and critic, identifies three
elements that control and define this development in museums as lighting, security, and procession
through space. Unlike those traditional rectilinear space that isolated from the outside world where
even light were mostly artificial, museums are now increasingly open to natural light and paying more
attention on introducing strong spacial experience of the visitors.
Lighting in museums, especially art museum, is crucial for creating best views of exhibitions.
Controlling the lighting is particularly important that it should have minimum damage to the arts. This
is especially challenging in art museums with full glass roofing, for

Kids with Autism can t have a good social life because they can t keep a steady performance. When
the kid talks he or she stumbles or mumbles on what they want to say. The kids with Autism can t

have problems with concentrating with different things around them.
When you go to the doctors for the first time you should be asked some questions when you go. Some
treatments can possibly get rid of autism but it would be very long. You can have treatments on
behavior. So if your child is acting bad you can get a treatment for their behavior.. When you get
behavioral treatments you can get a controlling behavior treatment and a learning behavior treatment.
The controlling behavioral treatment can be just to calm the down or not talking back. The learning
treatment can help with their manners, there school learning, and more. Getting your child in the
treatments they are going to have to take a lot of medicine. They will have to take pills that calm them
down. They may have to take vitamins and things like that. If they are allergic to anything they will
have to take allergy pills. When you go to the doctors and you get these questions you can tell them
information that you think they might have autism with their day to day life.

Hospice And Palliative Care Organization
Introduction According to the National Hospice and Palliative Care organization, in 2011, an
estimated 1.651 million patients received services from hospice care, while 1,059,000 patients passed
away from this form of care in the same year (NHPCO pdf, 2012). Hospice end of life cares
mission/goal is to provide compassionate care for patients and their families who are living with a life
limiting illness. This type of medical service gives expert medical care, pain management, and
emotional and spiritual support (NHPCO, 2016). End of life care is beneficial for ones well being
while they are passing away. Giving someone a peaceful and warm environment to spend their final
life moments in. This form of end of life care is something that most people can relate to as many
friends and family members have gone through this process. Hospice care is delivered to many
patients, residents, and in general people all around the world, having many factors that go into
hospice such as the requirements to receive hospice, the care team and the levels of care one receives,
all of these factors are extremely important when it comes to the care for one s life, family member, or
friend.
Hospice 101 There are many factors that go into hospice services, not just the basic cares that one
would assume. According the U.S. National Library of Medicine, hospice care helps people with
illnesses that cannot be cured and who are nearing death. The goal is to give comfort and peace

Student Apathy In Education
The Problem
Because kids come from different cultural and economic backgrounds, it is difficult to engage all
students 100% of the time. Furthermore, many students, to help their parents financially, work after
school or misses school entirely to take care of their siblings while Mom and Dad work many parents
cannot afford daycare. Some students are homeless, living on the street or with relatives for a week or
two at a time. Moreover, our refugee students (from war torn countries) suffer from both Post
Traumatic Stress Disorder and anxiety caused by the process of acculturation. Students who have
normal home lives may suffer abuse, neglect, and may have family addicted to drugs and alcohol.
Stress and anxiety levels are at an all time high for today s youth; therefore, it is not surprising that
they are apathetic about learning. While this general apathy in education has increased rapidly over the
last few years, there is good news. We already have the remedy and it costs nothing. De Lay (2014),
suggests that student apathy is a by product of mediocre teaching and the absence of a learning
purpose. At its best, the current educational system is archaic. As a result, students are taught to think
in a linear fashion that is wholly unlike the world in which they live (Robinson, 2010). Educational
practices brought into the 21 century will encourage students to feel the excitement of learning. Not
only is it important for students to become lifelong learners, but

A Rose For Emily Grierson Home Analysis
The Grierson household is an important key factor to A Rose For Emily. The theme of the whole story
is being unable to let go of the past. The house provides a place for Emily to theoretically be frozen in
time. The house symbolized the past, and it was sort of like a sanctuary for Emily. The townspeople
held the Grierson family to such a high standard, this had a huge affect on Emily. As time progressed,
society inevitably became more advanced. Emily obviously wanted to remain in the past for as long as
possible, so she isolated herself in her home away from the world. The Grierson house was a safe
haven for Emily. It was place for her to avoid the present. This something turned her house into a
prison. She had nowhere else to go but home,

President Obama s Semblance Of Education Reform Essay
Adversaries in the Race to the Top While many supported President Obama s semblance of education
reform in Race to the Top, various factions were vehemently against RTT and its implementation.
Republicans primarily stand against federal involvement in state and local schools. The party opposed
RTT advanced Common Core State Standards, which promote a one size fits all approach to education
(Spring, 2015, 63). Along with political factions, those majorly impacted by RTT objected to its
premise. The main teachers unions in the U.S., the National Education Association as well as the
American Federation of Teachers, highlighted several points of disagreement in RTT which would
lead to challenges in implementation. At the time, the NEA said it cannot support RTT s endorsement
of using test scores for evaluating teachers, increasing the number of charter schools, and bolstering
what the union calls fast track alternative routes to teacher licensure (Sawchuk 2009). Additionally,
the AFT expressed concerns about RTT and how much the program helps students, whether it is fair to
teachers, whether it is transparent to the public, and whether it requires shared responsibility
(Weingarten 2009). Along with teachers unions, members of academia spearheaded critiques of RTT.
Joe Onosko s eight point manifesto adequately details the concerns of educators at the time of
implementation. The flaws of the plan (RTT) are as follows:
The plan s focus on high stakes testing and

Research Paper On Scoliosis
Hi, I am Sara Fairman and I am a normal girl. I have blonde hair, light skin, green eyes and a bit of
freckles. But one thing is different about me. Something you would not notice by just looking at me.
You would have to look deeper. Literally. I have scoliosis. The definition of scoliosis is the abnormal
lateral curvature of the spine. I hate it. I have had scoliosis for 2 years now. I have learned to cope
with it. This is my scoliosis story. It all started when I was 10 years old just starting 5th grade. 1st year
of middle school. I had a doctor s appointment right in the middle of social studies. I love social
studies! Well, right as I got in the room, I had to leave. I had a check up. They checked my weight and

wanted to. I was doing not so good in school. I had all B+ s except for one A in my language, one A in
An I usually get all A s! I researched scoliosis. That s what I did instead of studying. I hated scoliosis.
I really hoped I did not have it. But sadly that was not the case. On the 5th of November we got the
results after school on Friday. I had it. I was going to come to the Idaho Scoliosis center to get my
back brace on Saturday, have a follow up on Sunday, and miss part of school on Monday for the final
adjustments. When I woke up I got dressed at 8:45. We were supposed to be there at 9:30 AM. I went
downstairs at 9:00 after getting dressed and brushing my teeth. When it was time to go I did no want

Comparison Of Christopher Smart s My Cat Jeoffry And...
There are a lot of differences between Christopher Smart s My Cat Jeoffry and Thomas Gray s Ode on
the Death of a Favourite Cat, Drowned in a Tub of Gold Fishes. Quite possibly more differences than
anything else but within both poems there is also a lot of things that the two poems have in common.
The approaches Thomas Gray and Christopher Smart used in order to honor cats, so to speak, are
unique and are very much reflections of who Smart and Gray were as people at the time that they
wrote the pieces. Christopher Smart used the connections he felt to God to bring out some of his best
lines to represent his cat, Jeoffry and Thomas Gray used humor to address a sad time and honor a lost
cat for a friend. Christopher Smart s first line says, For I will consider my cay Jeoffry, (Line 695)
basically it recites the title of the poem and it s as if Smart is automatically letting it be known that this
entire writing is going to be for Jeoffry. More importantly that the writing is about the fact that Jeoffry
is a cat. Simple enough, the poem is about a guy obsessed with his cat. Although, it s really more in
depth than just a guy obsessed with his cat. If we add in the second line of the poem which reads, For
he is the servant of the Living God duly and daily serving him, (Line 696) we are provided with a little
bit of that depth. It s a must to take into account the fact that Christopher Smart was hospitalized in an
asylum for five years due to his need to constantly worship

How Does Emily Brontë Use Syntax In Wuthering Heights
In this passage of Wuthering Heights, Brontë expresses the moment of Heathcliff s reaction to
Catherine Linton s death. In this particular passage, Emily Brontë utilizes syntax to illustrate
Heathcliff s obsessive love for the late Catherine Linton.
Brontë expresses Heathcliff s deep, hidden emotions through the use of syntax. In the beginning, few
questions are asked by Heathcliff, such as if she died like a saint, to convey his curiosity about his true
love s death (Brontë 164). Then after Nelly answers his questions about how Catherine died,
Heathcliff s attitude shifts. Heathcliff s syntax starts to give off a different emotion expressed by the
arrangement of his words and phrases. The combination of concise sentences with exclamation

Analysis Of Terence Hanbury White s The Once And Future King
Arthurian legend, with its round table, wizard, unfaithful queen, gallant knight, vengeful son, and well
intentioned king, has long been retold. While most authors employed the legend as a tapestry to depict
religious themes, The Once and Future King uniquely utilizes the tale to provide a political critique of
the author s modern day society. Terence Hanbury White embraced Malory s version by creating four
sequential books eventually published together under the title The Once and Future King. Shifting
away from the heavily Christian oriented tale, White uses the story of King Arthur as platform to
express his opinions on his own world during the mid 1900 s. Focusing on the increasingly divided,
violent attitudes of his generation, White imposes an alternative vision of the utility of war. As he
converges on and diverges from pacifistic sentiment, White s first book, The Sword and the Stone and
fourth book, The Candle in the Wind illustrate political critique of both old and new society. The
golden lines of The Sword in the Stone and The Candle in the Wind earn their status from the way
they encapsulate the predominant pacifistic theme through symbolism. When young Arthur lives
among geese, he notices sentries keeping watch, and confused of their purpose, he asks a goose by the
name of Lyo Lyok if they are preparing for war amongst their flock. The disgusted goose responds,
But what creature could be so low as to go about in bands, to murder others of its own blood?

Pasadena City College Internship Report
During my past three years at Pasadena City College I was able to explore courses and narrow my
interests in a way that may not have been possible at an expensive university. While I have always had
an interest in the technical and scientific disciplines, out of high school I was unfocused. I wanted to
be a part of something that impacted my community in a positive manner. When first looking into
careers I never considered a technical based career, mainly due to family career history. However, as I
began to excel in math and MESA organizers got more involved in my success I realized there was a
space for my interest in STEM.
Throughout my academic endeavor I have earned a spot in two very diverse internships. My first
internship was with LADOT. It focused on my individual skills and how to apply them to singular
tasks. I was primarily involved in GIS mapping and worked alongside traffic and computer engineers.
Though this was an informative and rigorous internship I found my true inspiration in my engineering
professor at Pasadena City College. Dr. Arzoumanian is a successful civil engineer with practice in the
private sector. After discussing with her the positive experiences that she has had I knew that I wanted

disciplines together to accomplish a greater task. I worked with a collaborative of students with majors

Fahrenheit 451 Critical Analysis
In school, people crave acceptance. Putting themselves at a lower expectation to meet the needs of
another. Every year, students try to pick classes that could put them in the same classes as their
friends. Last year, when signing up for classes, I was hoping to get into similar classes with my
friends. After telling them about some of the classes I was interested in, my ideas were immediately
shut down. My friends, and even my parents told me that, the ideas I interpreted as informational,
were insufficient and would get me nowhere in life. They told me I should pick something to help
advance my career in the future. If my parents told me to choose something else, who was I to
disagree? I felt like I was stuck in a box, leading to get out, but nobody was around to hear me. So I
ended up switching my classes, and moving down some levels to be with friends. My conformity
caused me to lower my own standards and lowers the expectations of those around me. Though i faced
consequences by conforming, there are several examples that examine the same concepts of
conformity at a more extreme level in Ray Bradbury s Fahrenheit 451. Excessive censorship from a
higher authority most likely leads to conformity from subordinates.

Walt Disney s massive company, which embodies theme parks, resorts, movies, and television, slowly
sprouted from less than birth of Mickey Mouse. The Walt Disney began its franchise reign of the
entertainment industry in 1928 with Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse made its debut in select short
films, the most notable being Steamboat Willie (Gamble 2014). Since then, even decades after Walt

organization dedicated to bringing fantasy into the realm of reality. The Disney Company has been
able to successfully incorporate the famous mousey emblem into to the ever changing culture as a

lines that have spun off of Mickey s reputation combined with a transnational strategy have facilitated
the organization to swell from a small animation studio to one of the most widely recognized and

to save him, so it won?t matter if he leaves his own at home because it will be waiting for him. Brown
meets the devil along a crooked path, and the devil asks why he is late; Brown replies, ?Faith kept me
back awhile?(311). The ?faith? Brown has left behind is not just his wife, but also his literal faith to
satisfy his burning human curiosity. Brown shows his desire to break loose from his normal life by
meeting Satan, the spawn of all rebellion, in the forest. Brown tries to fight the evil inside of him to
tell the devil he must go back to his faith, and the devil convinces him that they will walk the crooked
path and reason as they go. The devil says, ?and if I convince thee not thou shalt turn back. We are but
little in the forest yet?(312). As they venture further into the forest the devil tries to strip Brown of his
faith, but he realizes this and stops to exclaim, ?Too far! Too far!?(312). Brown argues the good
Christian background of his father and grandfather would never walk upon this crooked path with the
devil by their side. The path that Brown is on causes him to gamble with his soul under the
promptings of the devil, and he knows he must choose to either roll the dice or turn around and go
home. The devil is prepared for such resistance and refutes Brown?s declaration of his ancestors by
saying, ?They were my good friends, both; and many a pleasant walk have we had along this path, and

Dinosaurs are reoccurring in Brisbane
Have you ever wondered how the world would be like if dinosaurs came back to life? Or how people
would react? Well, early Monday morning on May 31st 2017, a Tyrannosaurs Rex changed people s
lives by killing 33 innocent people including young school children.
The police claimed responsibility after the dreadful incident at Blossom Hill High School (BHHS).
This is by far the worst terrorist attack Brisbane has experienced.
There were 50 taken to hospital and 55 others treated at the scene.
The traumatised witnesses have stated that the vicious reptile has torn down the entire school, leaving
over millions of pieces scattered across school grounds.
Classrooms left ripped apart and school buses been squashed to the ground.
Some school students at the incident ran for their lives, while others were shocked and whipped out
their phones to record the outrageous event. Tyrannosaurs Rex large, vicious reptile hovered over the
school for over one hour, taking down everything in its sight.
The school yard, which was usually bursting out with happiness and laughter, was now as still as the
night sky.
The unforgettable incident occurred at 10:23 am, when all you could hear were the sounds of
buildings crashing down and screaming
A few minutes later everything was wiped out completely. After the dinosaur roamed around the
school, the police captured the dinosaur for further examination.
Surprisingly, some survived after the awful episode. Andrew Smith, was a survivor who captured this
image of the dinosaur. He and 3 other staff members of (BHHS) survived and witnessed the whole
attack.
(Tyrannosaurs Rex wandering around Blossom Hill High School.)
Andrew 29 said, I heard lots of screaming from across the hall. The next thing I saw is something I
will never forget. It was a dinosaur peering over me. He started to stomp and crush all the buildings
surrounding us
I was honestly so petrified. I yelled at the remanding students to run.

Analysis Of Broken Promises By David Kirby
Human nature is one of the most interesting things to write about. Every day famous authors continue
to write books upon books about the struggles and adversity humanity faces every day. They come up
in the forms of novels, short stories, epic tales and poems. We can talk about whatever we want and
interpret it differently. The poem I will be analyzing in this essay David Kirby s Broken Promises . I
will give my interpretation and try to talk about every line. First, let s start with a bit of background on
David Kirby. He was born on 1944, on a farm in Southern Louisiana. When he was young he
remembered stories that his mother told him. When his mother was a child she also lived on a farm,
and there were many people living on the farm. There were recently emancipated slaves, witches and
wanderers in the wood. She led a very interesting life on this farm. His mother was an excellent
storyteller, and she passed this on to Kirby. When he was older he went to Louisiana State University,
and later he got his PhD from John Hopkins University. When Kirby started his career he was inspired
by people like John Keats and Little Richard. Once he started writing, he wanted to bring little bits of
everything about life in his poems. He wrote long lined narrative poems. He once stated in an
interview with Craig Morgan Teicher, One thing I want to do in poems is to portray the mind as it
actually works . This may be influenced the way he wrote Broken Promises , since it personifies

Favelas In Brazil Research Paper
Favelas in Brazil have always had a somewhat rough background in getting along with outsiders.
Meaning drug lords, gangs, and occasional gun shootouts with the police. There is no doubt that it is a
dangerous area to be in. Though you d expect the people living there to want to leave to get out of that
situation. It is actually quite different they like where they re at. None of them really mind where they
are and favelas support a total of 1.5 million people, which is about 24% of the population in Brazil.
Though living in one is also a close resemblance to slum life, or an overcrowded area, occupied by
very poor people. There are some that are seen as a more high functioning, and have been developing
in new and extraordinary ways. Favelas do indeed have a darker side. Since they are such tight space
with so many people, this area, have become a popular spot for crimes, and for drugs. Most are ruled
by drug lords. Who traffic cocaine, and encourage gang violence. The government brought in military
force to try to help with this, with a high success in 2010. The protection is slowly deteriorating, as
shoot out are now occurring more, and more often. The recent occurrence of the Olympics in Rio,
seem to have had a large effect in the violence picking ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

What made Helvetica so popular and, why, over 50 years later, does it still retain its popularity? Why
does Helvetica work equally effective for both a letter of termination and on the birth announcement

The foundations of the International Typographic Style can be traced to two art schools, the Zurich
School of the Applied Arts and the School of Design in Basel, who taught a curriculum in which form
follows function.
The 1950s saw a boom of the International style when it was epitomized with the creation of several
new san serif type families. The geometric fonts on the 1920s and 30s was rejected in favor of designs
inspired by Akzidenz Grotesk fonts. Two fonts would soon take the world by storm. In 1954 a Swiss
designer working in Paris by the name of Adrian Frutiger created a family of 21 san serif fonts which
he named, Univers. At the same time, back in Switzerland Edouard Hoffman of the Haas type foundry
in Switzerland felt that the Akzidenz Grtotesk fonts should be refined and upgraded. Hoffman had
been waiting for the right moment to release a new typeface and in 1956 he contacted Max Miedinger,
who had worked with him at Haas and had since branched out as a freelance consultant and designer
to help create the new typeface for Haas. Hamburgers. No, not the food, the word. Miedinger began to
create a new typeface by working out the letters in the word, hamburgers, a word that includes all
stylistic variations of letters. First working on pencil and paper and then creating photographic
reproductions Miedinger set out to create

The New York City s Government
New York City Government
New York City is the largest and one of the oldest cities in the United States, having been rediscovered
by Henry Hudson in 1609 while working for the Dutch East Indies Company. New Amsterdam, as it
was then known, was settled in 1614 by Dutch fur traders and became the most important port in
America. (Reed, 2011) The two rivers flowing on each side of Manhattan grant easy access to the
ocean, and Henry Hudson remarked that the harbor was the best natural harbor he had ever seen in the
world. For hundreds of years the city has been at the epicenter of world trade, and immigration to the
new world. Millions of immigrants have filled the streets of New York, from Europe, Africa, South
America, Asia, and elsewhere.
The city of New York has not always had as positive of a city government as the city s history may
suggest, however. It has had a mixed political system since its beginning, with its democratic
principles in question as corruption has taken hold of the city from time to time. Boss Tweed, a
notorious mayor from the 1860s, was so corrupt he was openly the mastermind of the city for thirty
years. His huge profit margins as a result of his control over the streetcar transportation system in that
time prevented the New York subway from being built until 1910. The Italian immigrants who came
from Sicily maintained traditional family ties, which soon became the American Mafia, which
controlled crime in the city from the 1920s until the

Nt1310 Unit 3 Assignment Effect
Semiconductor Nano crystals or quantum dots are materials that are typically 2 20 nm in diameter,
consisting of approximately twelve to fourteen thousand atoms. The effect of quantum confinement
results, in the electrons and holes in the Nano crystal to exhibit quantized energy states; thus enabling
them to exhibit novel physical properties that are not found in their bulk counterparts. Research in
semiconductor quantum dots started with the realization that the optical and electronic properties of
these particles were strongly dependent on particle size, due to quantum confinement of the charge
carriers in small spaces.
1.2 Quantum Confinement Effect
This concept can be explained using the term band gap, a property that is characteristic of
semiconductors. The band gap can be defined as the difference in energy between the valence and
conduction band and is typically in the range of 1 3 eV for semiconductors. In bulk materials the
energy bands are a continuum of energy levels arising from the overlapping of the atomic orbital s due
to the large number of molecules. When a semiconductor is brought to the Nano scale, containing
lesser number of molecules, the quantized energy levels become distinct. Thus the addition or removal
of atoms significantly changes the energy levels within the band making the band gap size dependent.

The figure depicts the excitation of an electron into the conduction band thus leaving a hole in the
valence band. An electron hole pair is called an exciton, and the natural physical separation between
them is called the excitonic Bohr radius and is characteristic of each material. Thus when a
semiconducting material approaches a size nearing its Bohr excitonic radius, the exciton is said to be
confined within the particle and is called quantum

Sexual Behavior Since the AIDS Epidemic Essay
Few phenomena have changed the face of sexuality as dramatically as the appearance nearly 30 years
ago of the microscopic virus known as HIV, or human immunodeficiency virus. According to the
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, HIV s the virus that can lead to acquired
immunodeficiency syndrome, or AIDS (CDC, 2013). AIDS is a medical condition that is named
because HIV is acquired and subsequently affects the body s immune system to the point where it
often becomes deficient in combating disease causing organisms, resulting a group of symptoms that
collectively indicate or characterize a disease or syndrome. The World Health Organization states that
HIV continues to be a major global public health issue, having claimed more than ... Show more

Conversely, a person who inserts his penis into an infected partner is also at risk since HIV can enter
through the urethra or through small cuts, abrasions, or open sores on the penis. Some people
mistakenly believe that only men who have sex with men are at risk of HIV through anal sex.
However, a national study of men and women 15 44 years of age found that 35% of women have had
anal sex with an other sex partner (National Center for Health Statistics, 2005). Vaginal sex is also
another quite risky sexual behavior as an HIV transmission route, especially for women, and is the
most common way HIV is transmitted in much of the world. In women, the lining of the vagina can
tear and possibly allow HIV to enter the body. HIV can also be directly absorbed through the mucous
membranes that line the vagina and cervix (Yarber, Sayad Strong, 2009). Adolescent females are
biologically more susceptible to HIV than older women because their immature cervixes may be more
easily infected. However, the virus can enter the bloodstream through the urethra or through small cuts
or open sores on the penis. Menstrual blood containing HIV can also facilitate transmission of the
virus to a sex partner. Some behaviors and conditions that put individuals at greater risk of contracting
HIV include having unprotected

Scarlet Letter Pearl s Guilt

Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne Pearl was a little girl who was the product of and adulterous
act when the minister at the church Rev. Arthur Dimmesdale and a young lady named Hester Prynne.
We have spoken of Pearl s rich and luxuriant beauty a beauty that shone with deep and vivid tints, a
bright complexion, eyes possessing intensity both of depth and glow, and hair already of a deep,
glossy brown, and which, in after years, would be nearly akin to black. (Hawthorne 52) Here is a brief

Children build up resentment. They lack their parents love and anger builds up. (Bucknell 1)Pearl was
isolated from almost everyone, his only friend in some way is Hester and Pearl hates when Hester don

love. I can put myself in Pearl´s shoes and imagine how bad she had too feel in that situations that she
experienced. We can judge her without knowing the full background in his life. Pearl was paying for a
sin she did not commit and she was suffering lack of love from others. In my opinion Pearl´s only
purpose in the novel is to show others people sins and to develop themes such as guilt/shame, the
hypocrisy of those who pretend to lover her and reject her later, and the isolation that she and Hester
lived in. It must have been a hard life for Pearl, a life of suffering and isolation. Watching his mom all

Firstly, the novel is read from the traditional feminist perspective, and later Berensmeyer offers queer
readings of gender in it. According to the feminist perspective, the novel declares the fantasy of a
powerful woman, who subverts the patriarchal desire for knowledge, domination and control . Gender
studies and queer theory see this controversial text as a hybrid and playful staging of gender that
queers or deconstructs traditional categories of masculinity and femininity . Most recent gender
studies scholars view Carter s text mostly positively. Moreover, they suppose that Nights at the Circus
can be linked to the advanced psychoanalytic theories, Foucauldian discourse analysis and Mikhail
Bakhtin s notions of the grotesque and carnivalesque in terms of breaking of the normative order of
the society. Eventually Berensmeyer concludes that literature can address limits and gaps in
performativity constructions of sex and gender , and at the same time it suggests to include spaces of
possibility in order to enable new degrees of freedom to emerge . Thus, the author points out that the
analysis of such complex novel as Nights at the Circus, helps us to understand the purpose and
function of the critical literary discourse in

  • 2. The Impact Of Immigration On The New Country III. Literature Review Amongst current events, immigration is one of the hotly debated topics of today. It s will be a determining factor in the current U.S. presidential race. Hispanic/Latino immigrants are one of the fastest growing demographics in our populations and consideration of political value due to their impact on and to the economy. Their ethnicity makes them the subject of random criticism and plays a role in how well they assimilate into the US. How they are perceived and treated while trying to build a new life with dreams, like many Americans, of a better life, will also play a crucial role in how they adapt to their new surroundings. Assimilating into a country you know nothing about and where you may not have family or support is challenging for anyone. This article discusses how when viewed by the people in the new country see you may be the determining factor in ease or difficulty of the assimilation process. How you see yourself in comparison to others in the new country may also impact how you feel about yourself and your culture whether it is a positive or negative. For many of us, the label, whether Latino/Latina or Hispanic, takes away our nationality and symbolizes a loss of identity. (McGoldrick, Giordano, Garcia Preto, 2005) How Latinos identify themselves is easier question posed then answered. The U.S. government, as well as psychological researchers, often required individuals to select from a confusing set of options that define ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Environmental Protection Is A Trending Topic Environmental protection is a trending topic not only in industries but also in architectures. Finding a solution that could minimum the pollution to surrounding environment and save the resources at the same time is crucial for architects in the process of design. Large amount of architects accepted the practice of involving more daylight in their architects to save more resources. An abundant supply of natural lighting can also save money and improve the visual quality of the environment. However, for buildings with different functions, the usage and requirement of light are also different, in particular, the libraries and art museums. The development of a new architectural form, museums, had greatly changed the traditional classical architectures into innovative modern architectures. Jayne Merkel, a historian and critic, identifies three elements that control and define this development in museums as lighting, security, and procession through space. Unlike those traditional rectilinear space that isolated from the outside world where even light were mostly artificial, museums are now increasingly open to natural light and paying more attention on introducing strong spacial experience of the visitors. Lighting in museums, especially art museum, is crucial for creating best views of exhibitions. Controlling the lighting is particularly important that it should have minimum damage to the arts. This is especially challenging in art museums with full glass roofing, for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Hospice And Palliative Care Organization Introduction According to the National Hospice and Palliative Care organization, in 2011, an estimated 1.651 million patients received services from hospice care, while 1,059,000 patients passed away from this form of care in the same year (NHPCO pdf, 2012). Hospice end of life cares mission/goal is to provide compassionate care for patients and their families who are living with a life limiting illness. This type of medical service gives expert medical care, pain management, and emotional and spiritual support (NHPCO, 2016). End of life care is beneficial for ones well being while they are passing away. Giving someone a peaceful and warm environment to spend their final life moments in. This form of end of life care is something that most people can relate to as many friends and family members have gone through this process. Hospice care is delivered to many patients, residents, and in general people all around the world, having many factors that go into hospice such as the requirements to receive hospice, the care team and the levels of care one receives, all of these factors are extremely important when it comes to the care for one s life, family member, or friend. • 6. Student Apathy In Education The Problem Because kids come from different cultural and economic backgrounds, it is difficult to engage all students 100% of the time. Furthermore, many students, to help their parents financially, work after school or misses school entirely to take care of their siblings while Mom and Dad work many parents cannot afford daycare. Some students are homeless, living on the street or with relatives for a week or two at a time. Moreover, our refugee students (from war torn countries) suffer from both Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and anxiety caused by the process of acculturation. Students who have normal home lives may suffer abuse, neglect, and may have family addicted to drugs and alcohol. Stress and anxiety levels are at an all time high for today s youth; therefore, it is not surprising that they are apathetic about learning. While this general apathy in education has increased rapidly over the last few years, there is good news. We already have the remedy and it costs nothing. De Lay (2014), suggests that student apathy is a by product of mediocre teaching and the absence of a learning purpose. At its best, the current educational system is archaic. As a result, students are taught to think in a linear fashion that is wholly unlike the world in which they live (Robinson, 2010). Educational practices brought into the 21 century will encourage students to feel the excitement of learning. Not only is it important for students to become lifelong learners, but ... • 7. A Rose For Emily Grierson Home Analysis The Grierson household is an important key factor to A Rose For Emily. The theme of the whole story is being unable to let go of the past. The house provides a place for Emily to theoretically be frozen in time. The house symbolized the past, and it was sort of like a sanctuary for Emily. The townspeople held the Grierson family to such a high standard, this had a huge affect on Emily. As time progressed, society inevitably became more advanced. Emily obviously wanted to remain in the past for as long as possible, so she isolated herself in her home away from the world. The Grierson house was a safe haven for Emily. It was place for her to avoid the present. This something turned her house into a prison. She had nowhere else to go but home, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. President Obama s Semblance Of Education Reform Essay Adversaries in the Race to the Top While many supported President Obama s semblance of education reform in Race to the Top, various factions were vehemently against RTT and its implementation. Republicans primarily stand against federal involvement in state and local schools. The party opposed RTT advanced Common Core State Standards, which promote a one size fits all approach to education (Spring, 2015, 63). Along with political factions, those majorly impacted by RTT objected to its premise. The main teachers unions in the U.S., the National Education Association as well as the American Federation of Teachers, highlighted several points of disagreement in RTT which would lead to challenges in implementation. At the time, the NEA said it cannot support RTT s endorsement of using test scores for evaluating teachers, increasing the number of charter schools, and bolstering what the union calls fast track alternative routes to teacher licensure (Sawchuk 2009). Additionally, the AFT expressed concerns about RTT and how much the program helps students, whether it is fair to teachers, whether it is transparent to the public, and whether it requires shared responsibility (Weingarten 2009). Along with teachers unions, members of academia spearheaded critiques of RTT. Joe Onosko s eight point manifesto adequately details the concerns of educators at the time of implementation. The flaws of the plan (RTT) are as follows: The plan s focus on high stakes testing and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Comparison Of Christopher Smart s My Cat Jeoffry And... There are a lot of differences between Christopher Smart s My Cat Jeoffry and Thomas Gray s Ode on the Death of a Favourite Cat, Drowned in a Tub of Gold Fishes. Quite possibly more differences than anything else but within both poems there is also a lot of things that the two poems have in common. The approaches Thomas Gray and Christopher Smart used in order to honor cats, so to speak, are unique and are very much reflections of who Smart and Gray were as people at the time that they wrote the pieces. Christopher Smart used the connections he felt to God to bring out some of his best lines to represent his cat, Jeoffry and Thomas Gray used humor to address a sad time and honor a lost cat for a friend. Christopher Smart s first line says, For I will consider my cay Jeoffry, (Line 695) basically it recites the title of the poem and it s as if Smart is automatically letting it be known that this entire writing is going to be for Jeoffry. More importantly that the writing is about the fact that Jeoffry is a cat. Simple enough, the poem is about a guy obsessed with his cat. Although, it s really more in depth than just a guy obsessed with his cat. If we add in the second line of the poem which reads, For he is the servant of the Living God duly and daily serving him, (Line 696) we are provided with a little bit of that depth. It s a must to take into account the fact that Christopher Smart was hospitalized in an asylum for five years due to his need to constantly worship ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. How Does Emily Brontë Use Syntax In Wuthering Heights In this passage of Wuthering Heights, Brontë expresses the moment of Heathcliff s reaction to Catherine Linton s death. In this particular passage, Emily Brontë utilizes syntax to illustrate Heathcliff s obsessive love for the late Catherine Linton. Brontë expresses Heathcliff s deep, hidden emotions through the use of syntax. In the beginning, few questions are asked by Heathcliff, such as if she died like a saint, to convey his curiosity about his true love s death (Brontë 164). Then after Nelly answers his questions about how Catherine died, Heathcliff s attitude shifts. Heathcliff s syntax starts to give off a different emotion expressed by the arrangement of his words and phrases. The combination of concise sentences with exclamation ... • 12. Analysis Of Terence Hanbury White s The Once And Future King Arthurian legend, with its round table, wizard, unfaithful queen, gallant knight, vengeful son, and well intentioned king, has long been retold. While most authors employed the legend as a tapestry to depict religious themes, The Once and Future King uniquely utilizes the tale to provide a political critique of the author s modern day society. Terence Hanbury White embraced Malory s version by creating four sequential books eventually published together under the title The Once and Future King. Shifting away from the heavily Christian oriented tale, White uses the story of King Arthur as platform to express his opinions on his own world during the mid 1900 s. Focusing on the increasingly divided, violent attitudes of his generation, White imposes an alternative vision of the utility of war. As he converges on and diverges from pacifistic sentiment, White s first book, The Sword and the Stone and fourth book, The Candle in the Wind illustrate political critique of both old and new society. The golden lines of The Sword in the Stone and The Candle in the Wind earn their status from the way they encapsulate the predominant pacifistic theme through symbolism. When young Arthur lives among geese, he notices sentries keeping watch, and confused of their purpose, he asks a goose by the name of Lyo Lyok if they are preparing for war amongst their flock. The disgusted goose responds, But what creature could be so low as to go about in bands, to murder others of its own blood? ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Pasadena City College Internship Report During my past three years at Pasadena City College I was able to explore courses and narrow my interests in a way that may not have been possible at an expensive university. While I have always had an interest in the technical and scientific disciplines, out of high school I was unfocused. I wanted to be a part of something that impacted my community in a positive manner. When first looking into careers I never considered a technical based career, mainly due to family career history. However, as I began to excel in math and MESA organizers got more involved in my success I realized there was a space for my interest in STEM. Throughout my academic endeavor I have earned a spot in two very diverse internships. My first internship was with LADOT. It focused on my individual skills and how to apply them to singular tasks. I was primarily involved in GIS mapping and worked alongside traffic and computer engineers. Though this was an informative and rigorous internship I found my true inspiration in my engineering professor at Pasadena City College. • 14. Fahrenheit 451 Critical Analysis In school, people crave acceptance. Putting themselves at a lower expectation to meet the needs of another. Every year, students try to pick classes that could put them in the same classes as their friends. Last year, when signing up for classes, I was hoping to get into similar classes with my friends. After telling them about some of the classes I was interested in, my ideas were immediately shut down. My friends, and even my parents told me that, the ideas I interpreted as informational, were insufficient and would get me nowhere in life. They told me I should pick something to help advance my career in the future. If my parents told me to choose something else, who was I to disagree? I felt like I was stuck in a box, leading to get out, but nobody was around to hear me. So I ended up switching my classes, and moving down some levels to be with friends. My conformity caused me to lower my own standards and lowers the expectations of those around me. Though i faced consequences by conforming, there are several examples that examine the same concepts of conformity at a more extreme level in Ray Bradbury s Fahrenheit 451. Excessive censorship from a higher authority most likely leads to conformity from subordinates. Excessive censorship from a higher authority most likely leads to fear. The Walt Disney began its franchise reign of the entertainment industry in 1928 with Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse made its debut in select short films, the most notable being Steamboat Willie (Gamble 2014). Brown has left behind is not just his wife, but also his literal faith to satisfy his burning human curiosity. Brown shows his desire to break loose from his normal life by meeting Satan, the spawn of all rebellion, in the forest. Brown tries to fight the evil inside of him to tell the devil he must go back to his faith, and the devil convinces him that they will walk the crooked path and reason as they go. The devil says, ?and if I convince thee not thou shalt turn back. We are but little in the forest yet?(312). As they venture further into the forest the devil tries to strip Brown of his faith, but he realizes this and stops to exclaim, ?Too far! Too far!?(312). Brown argues the good Christian background of his father and grandfather would never walk upon this crooked path with the devil by their side. The path that Brown is on causes him to gamble with his soul under the promptings of the devil, and he knows he must choose to either roll the dice or turn around and go home. The devil is prepared for such resistance and refutes Brown?s declaration of his ancestors by saying, ?They were my good friends, both; and many a pleasant walk have we had along this path, and returned merrily after ... Every day famous authors continue to write books upon books about the struggles and adversity humanity faces every day. They come up in the forms of novels, short stories, epic tales and poems. We can talk about whatever we want and interpret it differently. The poem I will be analyzing in this essay David Kirby s Broken Promises . I will give my interpretation and try to talk about every line. First, let s start with a bit of background on David Kirby. He was born on 1944, on a farm in Southern Louisiana. When he was young he remembered stories that his mother told him. When his mother was a child she also lived on a farm, and there were many people living on the farm. There were recently emancipated slaves, witches and wanderers in the wood. She led a very interesting life on this farm. His mother was an excellent storyteller, and she passed this on to Kirby. When he was older he went to Louisiana State University, and later he got his PhD from John Hopkins University. When Kirby started his career he was inspired by people like John Keats and Little Richard. Once he started writing, he wanted to bring little bits of everything about life in his poems. He wrote long lined narrative poems. He once stated in an interview with Craig Morgan Teicher, One thing I want to do in poems is to portray the mind as it actually works . • 28. The New York City s Government New York City Government New York City is the largest and one of the oldest cities in the United States, having been rediscovered by Henry Hudson in 1609 while working for the Dutch East Indies Company. New Amsterdam, as it was then known, was settled in 1614 by Dutch fur traders and became the most important port in America. (Reed, 2011) The two rivers flowing on each side of Manhattan grant easy access to the ocean, and Henry Hudson remarked that the harbor was the best natural harbor he had ever seen in the world. For hundreds of years the city has been at the epicenter of world trade, and immigration to the new world. Millions of immigrants have filled the streets of New York, from Europe, Africa, South America, Asia, and elsewhere. The city of New York has not always had as positive of a city government as the city s history may suggest, however. It has had a mixed political system since its beginning, with its democratic principles in question as corruption has taken hold of the city from time to time. Boss Tweed, a notorious mayor from the 1860s, was so corrupt he was openly the mastermind of the city for thirty years. His huge profit margins as a result of his control over the streetcar transportation system in that time prevented the New York subway from being built until 1910. • 29. Nt1310 Unit 3 Assignment Effect Semiconductor Nano crystals or quantum dots are materials that are typically 2 20 nm in diameter, consisting of approximately twelve to fourteen thousand atoms. The effect of quantum confinement results, in the electrons and holes in the Nano crystal to exhibit quantized energy states; thus enabling them to exhibit novel physical properties that are not found in their bulk counterparts. Research in semiconductor quantum dots started with the realization that the optical and electronic properties of these particles were strongly dependent on particle size, due to quantum confinement of the charge carriers in small spaces. 1.2 Quantum Confinement Effect This concept can be explained using the term band gap, a property that is characteristic of semiconductors. The band gap can be defined as the difference in energy between the valence and conduction band and is typically in the range of 1 3 eV for semiconductors. In bulk materials the energy bands are a continuum of energy levels arising from the overlapping of the atomic orbital s due to the large number of molecules. When a semiconductor is brought to the Nano scale, containing lesser number of molecules, the quantized energy levels become distinct. Thus the addition or removal of atoms significantly changes the energy levels within the band making the band gap size dependent. Figure 1: A Schematic diagram of the energy ... However, a national study of men and women 15 44 years of age found that 35% of women have had anal sex with an other sex partner (National Center for Health Statistics, 2005). Vaginal sex is also another quite risky sexual behavior as an HIV transmission route, especially for women, and is the most common way HIV is transmitted in much of the world.
