Inequality in British Schools
Is there a problem of Inequality in British schools?
The educational system is one of the most influential institutions in society as it provides young
people with a vast amount of knowledge, attitudes and skills. These are acquired formally through
set lessons or informally through the hidden curriculum which provides the unofficial and
unplanned consequences of school experience. Social Inequality is one of the major preoccupations
of sociology. The relationship between inequality and education has been studied for many years.
Although it seems obvious that educational success is simply down to an individual s capabilities
and motivation, sociological research shows that the inequalities in social class, gender and race and
ethnicity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the other hand if the teacher labels a pupil as un co operative or from a poor background, this
can cause low self esteem and the pupil will be likely to fail to achieve much success.
The Neo Marxist s perspective on class stratification in Britain claims that schools create a false
class consciousness so it seems that they promote equal opportunities for all, but they really
reproduce a capitalist division of labour, preparing young people for class determined careers in the
labour market.
Willis (1977) accepts the Marxist s view on education being closely linked to the needs of the
capitalist s system; however he does not agree with the idea of there being a direct link between
education and the economy. (Macionis. J, Plummer.K, 2008)
His study found that poorer children often grow up in environments where people see little hope of
upward social mobility and rebel against the system rather than trying to conform with in. In such
an environment adults often discourage rather than encourage success at school. (Macionis. J,
Plummer.K, 2008)
Social class is not the only inequality in Britain s schooling. Sociologists have also found a link
between gender and academic success. Until the late 1980 s there was high concern about the
underachievement of girls. Societies had been structured to consider schooling more important for
males than for females. Although the gap in gender

Analysis Of The Article Missed Nursing Care
B: Qualitative article critique
B1
Background or introduction
The article is titled missed nursing care. In the introduction, the author tries to tell the readers about
the adverse effects of omission in health care. The study does not have research about the reasons
why the nursing staff has omitted care (Polit, Beck, 2008). The problem statement is clearly and
directly stated. The methods used in collecting information have been mentioned in a separate
section where they are stated clearly. Lack of the current literature on the subject and the challenges
facing health care sector in providing nursing care is an opportunity for anyone to conduct such
study. The method that was used in interviewing the target group is consistent with the naturalistic
paradigm of qualitative research. The traditional research used in the study has not been mentioned
in the introduction. Due to lack of information, one cannot make an assumption about the research
problem. The reader can quickly identify the key concepts of the study in the introduction section.
The researcher did not indicate specific examples about poor patients care despite indicating that
staffing is related to the missed nursing care.
Review of the literature
Reference to the review of the literature has been stated in the introduction. According to the author,
the previous studies have shown that poor staffing can cause adverse effects on the patient.
According to Polit and Beck 2008, the main topics in the literature

There are various facets of the ailment that lots of people aren t even conscious of. ADD/ADHD
is a neurological problem which impacts the CNS, along with the inspirational system. ADD
/ADHD impacts two significant elements of the mind which are linked with all the capability to
pay attention along with the capability to modulate motor action. ADD/ADHD is due to a
chemical imbalance in the mind. There exists a lack in the brains capability to make neuro
transmitters. ADD/ADHD is thought to be hereditary. Though many people consider it one,
ADD/ADHD isn t a learning disability. ADD/ADHD changes a man s efficiency in college
environment, as well as other aspects of life too. Relationships with others, how well you
arrange your chamber and properties, and the way you keep track of your financing are several
other regions impacted by ADD/ADHD. Alternately, you might have already been in a position
to pay for the outward symptoms of ADD/ADHD when you re young, only to run into issues as
your obligations increase when you get older. The more balls you are wanting to keep in the air,
pursuing a profession, raising a family, managing a home, the greater the need on your own skills

individuals who have ADD/ADHD, it might feel utterly hopeless. Quite simply, the patient s mind

Marigolds By Eugenia Collier Essay
Elements of a Short Story Essay Living in poverty and having to face one s crumbling society is
extremely stressful. In Eugenia Collier s short story, Marigolds, the main character, Lizabeth, and
the other citizens of the town she lives in, including her parents, her friends, and Miss Lottie,
must learn to cope with that stress, and in Lizabeth s case, learn how to deal with the effects of
maturation. The different types of conflict within Marigolds are man versus man, man versus
society, and man versus self because Lizabeth has to face peer pressure, the living conditions
brought by the Great Depression, as well as the development of her own emotions. Due to the lack
of entertainment, Lizabeth and her friends have to resort to bothering Miss Lottie for fun, and
they compel Lizabeth to ransack the marigolds Miss Lottie pours her love into. At first, she is
hesitant to perform such an immature act, but her friends continue to taunt her, jeering, You
scared, Lizabeth? (Collier 3). Their attitude influences her negatively;not only does it encourage
behavior that is pointless and problematic, it also makes Lizabeth feel as if she is somehow less of

The desire to continue seeing the world through rose tinted glasses despite any occurrences that
may force one to do otherwise is understandable;most individuals have likely experienced this
emotion at least once in their lives. This type of conflict is man versus self because Lizabeth is

cannot help but feel guilty for her actions. As a result of the problems she faces, Lizabeth becomes

Aberdeen s Influence on Kurt Cobain Essay
Aberdeen s Influence on Kurt Cobain
The towns of Hoquiam and Aberdeen are located on the eastern edge of Grays Harbor in western
Washington state. If you are a fan of the band Nirvana, you have probably heard of these names. If
not, you are about to read how a town affected a person who in turn affected many people s lives.
Kurt Cobain was the singer and guitarist for Nirvana. He was born in Hoquiam (population
9,000) and after six months of life moved to Aberdeen (pop. 16,500), an old lumber town at the
eastern most point of Grays Harbor. The town is about four miles wide and three miles long. On
the northern and eastern sides of town are steep hills where the richer families live in Victorian
style houses. At the foot of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The town also became the end of a railroad line because of the lumber companies. Prostitution
prospered with as many as fifty whorehouses in the downtown area. Prostitution was around until
the late fifties when the police finally ended it. (Azerrad 12) The lumber boom slacked off a few
years ago as the economy fell and available lands were depleted. Now people are worried that the
Northwestern logging industry will not be able to recover and Aberdeen is marked for a slow ugly
death. (Gilmore 44)
According to Kenn Oberrecht, Aberdeen s name is from a city in Scotland. The name is Gaelic
and means the meeting of two rivers. Aberdeen, in case you do not know, is at the joining of the
Chehalis and Wishkah rivers. It is about one hundred miles south west of Seattle and 48 miles west
southwest of Olympia. (164) The first sawmill was built in 1884 and the shipbuilding industry
prospered until the 1920 s.
If there is a single attractive thing about Aberdeen, it would be the 98 square miles of surrounding
estuaries, tidelands, and marshes that attract shorebirds by the hundreds of thousands. They come
every April and May to rest and feed for the long trip north to their arctic and subarctic nesting
areas. (165)
Suicide is unusually high in Aberdeen. Mikal Gilmore writes about how Aberdeen s local

International Classification Of Functioning, Disability...
Introduction
The International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health, also know more commonly
as ICF was originally proposed by the World Health Organization (WHO) for trial purposes in
1980 and was known as the International Classification of Impairment, Disability and Handicap
(ICIDH) (reference). The ICIDH aimed to provide a cohesive and consistent language tool for the
classification of the consequences of disease and the implications for the individuals involved
(reference). However, as times changed and more was understood about the individuality in which
people cope with disabilities and the relationship that exists between the interaction of a person s

(reference) With this revision, The World Health Organizationaimed for the ICF to create a
standardized language for health professionals and to look beyond the idea of a purely medical or
biological conceptualization of dysfunction and take into account the other critical aspects of
disability, therefore creating a biopsychosocial model of disability, combining both social and
medical models of disability. (reference)
ICF Framework
The ICF framework is divided into four key components that look into the interaction and
interrelation between the individual and their environmental surroundings. In ICF, functioning and
disability are multi dimensional concepts relating these four components.
1.Body functions referring to the physiological and psychological functioning of body systems.
Body structures encompassing the anatomical parts of the body such as organs, limbs and their
components
2.Activities comprising of the execution of task or actions by an individual and includes the
activity limitations the individual may experience in executing such activities.
Participation denotes the involvement in life situation for an individual and contains participation
restriction an individual may experience in involvement in life situations. (reference)

1932 Social Melodrama I Was Born But Analysis
In Yasijuro Ozu s 1932 social melodrama, I Was Born But..., it s use of mise en scene works
well to describe the characters lives at home, as well as the tone of an economically depressed
Japan. As a slice of life movie, one scene stands out between separating Yoshi, the father, and his
co workers. While the camera pans across an office of yawning workers, Yoshi is patiently
waiting at his desk for something, like being called into his boss office. During his discussion
with Mr. Iwasaki, his co workers criticize him for kissing up to the boss, by moving into the
suburbs. Following this conversation, the camera slides the other way, showing all of the office
employees busy at their desk, before abruptly cutting to the children in schooldoing the same thing.
In this scene Ozu does a very good job of showing the similarities between the children and the
adults that work every day they do. While the adults are struggling in... Show more content on

Yoshi s wife stays at home as a housewife, while his children go to school for an education. Because
the movie wants to emphasize its relatability to the public at the time, it is not very dramatic and
has very simple camera angle and cuts. Most people have similar looks, children all in school
wear uniforms, and the men wear suits and ties. Only three certain characters have distinct
works, the teacher, who is very clean cut and put together much better than the salarymen. And
Mr. Iwasaki, who is covered in film and smoking a cigar, while his employees outside are smoking
on their own rolled cigarettes. Ozu had made the appearance of Mr. Iwasaki something less
professional because he was intended to be a relatable character, like Yoshi, but to still separate
them monetarily. Mr. Iwasaki is a professional man in a position of power, he can afford to have a
film hobby, smoke cigars, and to be able to have his own driver and

Comparison Of The Book And Alice In Wonderland
Comparison of Alice in Wonderland Book and Movie Alice s Adventures in Wonderland written
by Lewis Caroll was originally published on November 26, 1865. On the other hand, the movie
version, directed by Clyde Geronimo, Wilfred Jackson, and Hamilton Luske and produced by
Walt Disney, was published in 1951. Carroll s book has twelve chapters and begins by
describing a girl who named Alice that falls down a hole and finds herself in wonderland. In
comparison, the movie begins with a scene not included in the book in which Alice sings about
her world, foreshadowing wonderland. In the beginning, the versions are similar. Alice follows
the rabbit because she is bored with her sister who only wants to read books with pictures. When
she follows the rabbit, Alice finds herself in a different world. The difference is that in the book
when Alice comes to the place, she finds the rabbit and follows him until she sees many doors.
In the movie, however, the door talks to her instead. In the movie Mrs. Doorknob never appears,
but the door has magic and gives her a potion bottle and box on the table. Conversely, in the book
the bottle and box are already there. Because she didn t see the two things, they appear after she
talks to the door and he works his magic, and she drinks the potion to become smaller so she can
enter the door. In the second chapter, there are several differences. In the book Alice feels so

Geographic factors such as national boundaries, regional districts and suburban postcodes
Psychographic factors such as lifestyle, personality and motive, and

Gallium Essay
The existence of Gallium was proposed in 1871 by Russian chemist Dmitri Mendeleev, who
named it, based on its position in the periodic table, eka aluminum . He also predicted it s
melting point, density, oxide character and bonding in chloride, that were all similar to the real
properties of Gallium. Gallium was discovered by the French chemist Paul Emile Lecoq de
Boisbaudran in 1875 in an examination of a sphalerite sample, and found it by its characteristic
spectrum, its two violet lines. Lecoq named the element gallia , from the Latin word Gallia
meaning Gaul, after his native land of France; he also named the element after himself ( le coq is
french for the rooster and the Latin word for rooster is gallus ). From its discovery until the era of

Pure Gallium is a silvery color and in its solid form fractures a lot like glass. When solidifying, it
can expand by 3.1% and is stored in glass or metal containers so that the container does not break

bismuth, and plutonium. It alloys easily with other metals, and is used in small quantities as a
plutonium gallium alloy in the cores of nuclear bombs to help stabilize the plutonium crystal
structure. The melting point of Gallium is about 85 degrees fahrenheit, just above average room

The Cold War And The Soviet Union
The Cold War was a state of political hostility between the U.S and the Soviet bloc, the most
powerful nations in the world. The two countries fought together as allies in World War II but
toward the end of the War the two nations competing ideologies and visions of the post War
prevented them from working together. The Cold Warwas by far the biggest threat to human
existence the world has ever seen, although their was never any declaration of War between the two
competing nations, the Soviet Union and the United States both had weapons of mass destruction,
that was capable of destroying human life as we know today. From the end of World War II up until
the collapse of the Soviet Union the two nations competed in expanding their spheres of influence
throughout the world. By 1960 Communism had maintained a high degree of focus, coordination,
discipline, and strategic coherence in spreading its ideologies throughout the world, the West seemed
to be quite the opposite. In discussing the Cold War throughout this period, you will catch a glimpse
of the various events that put the united states and the West on the defensive against communism.
At the end of World War II Stalin s post War vision involved defying the U.S and creating buffer
zones between the Soviet Bloc and Germany. In creating this buffer zone the Soviet Union created
Communist friendly governments throughout Eastern Europe. The spread of Communism in
Eastern Europe created a division between Eastern and

Monasticism Research Paper
What is a MONASTERY / MONASTICISM?
Monasteries were places where groups of men or women could live together and worship God.
The men in the monasteries were called monks and the women were called nuns. A monastery
is sometimes called an abbey or a priory . Monasteries for women are also sometimes called
nunneries . Monasteries always had lots of small buildings for the monks or nuns to live in.
These are called cells . British ones were usually round. Saxon ones were rectangular. There would
also be a kitchen and workshops. They could be built of wood or stone.
Monasticism is a religious way of life in which one declares to devote oneself fully to spiritual

Not only were they educated by they also demonstrated skills in agriculture and manual labor. As
time went by the influential families in the medieval era began establishing their own monasteries
within their estates. The abbots who were designated to oversee these monasteries were related,
directly or in directly to the family that owned the monastery. As such, the abbots administered the
monasteries in the interest of the owners. This resulted into the rapid integration of the monasteries
into the power structure of the medieval society.
Where did MONASTICISM spread?
From Egypt, the popularity of Monasticism spread very rapidly to Palestine. This country,
sanctified as it was by the life and death of the founder of the Christian faith, attracted the interest
from all corners of the Empire.
It appeared in Syria during the first decades of the fourth century. The great hymnographer and
theologian Ephraim the Syrian also made successful efforts to organize the monks.
By way of Cappadocia and Asia Minor, monasticism reached the capital of the Empire,
Constantinople. Many of the monasteries that were established in the suburbs on both sides of the

Tigers Delight The largest tiger in the world has been measured at over ten feet long and over six
hundred and sixty pounds! Tigers are apart of the cat family and are known to be the largest feline
in the bunch. Within just the tiger species there are nine different subspecies and three of which
are already extinct. Their differences are not as drastic in appearance like other animals, such as
dogs for example, but they still noticeable to the trained eye. All tiger subspecies are currently
classified as being endangered but there are many actions being taken to help keep the current
surviving species from going extinct. Most tigers in nature live to be ten to fifteen years old.
Tigers by nature are carnivores and are only found in nature in one continent on earth, which is
Asia. Unlike most cats tiger enjoy swimming and spend the majority of the hot summer days
resting in rivers or lakes. OneKind.org is an animal relief organization and they explain that tiger
s roar can carry more than 2 km and they are most active hunters at night (OneKind). Knowing
information about the six living subspecies of tigers and their differences, whether it be physical
make up or social habits, and what organizations are out there and what they are doing to help the
endangered species, is a brilliant start to having a well rounded knowledge of tigers.

What Is The Tone Of The Scarlet Letter
In his essay On The Scarlet Letter , D.H. Lawrence negatively criticizes the character of Hester
Prynne in The Scarlet Letter. He focuses on the topic of Hester s sin rather than its consequences,
believing her to be the antagonist of the story. Lawrence uses several techniques such as literary
allusions, repetition, and a sarcastic tone to denounce Hester Prynnes sin. Lawrence utilizes literary
allusions in his essay to emphasize his pessimistic views on Hester by comparing her to other
figures in literature. For instance, he compares Hester to another Magdalen, a reference to a figure
in Christianity (Lawrence). According to the Bible, Magdalen travelled with Jesus as one of his
followers, but was also believed to be a prostitute.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lawrence states how an outsider would have perceived Hester as a symbolic image of
Motherhood, whose infant would redeem the world. To this, he responds with: Whose infant
was to redeem the world indeed! (Lawrence). Lawrence s statement is filled with sarcasm
because he believes that the birth of the infant, Pearl, is far from being any form of redemption;
it is a manifestation of Hester s sin. His tone indicates that he blames her for turning the
beautiful birth of a child into a horrific symbol of her sin. Later in his essay, Lawrence
sarcastically states that the world will all be envying [Hester for her] sin because she has stolen an
advantage over them (Lawrence). This statement conveys a sarcastic, and even a mocking, tone,
targeting both Hester and her supporters. The use of sarcasm here allows Lawrence to effectively
portray that Hester should not be supported for her crimes. D.H. Lawrence expresses his disdain
towards Hester Prynne s actions through literary allusions, repetition, and a sarcastic tone in his
essay On The Scarlet Letter . These three components are crucial in helping him convey his
message and purpose to the reader. By choosing to focus on the horrors of Hester s sin, Lawrence
is able to adequately prove to the reader that Hester should be

The Heroine in A White Heron Essay
A White Heron was a beautiful story of the battles within a little girl in her
formative years in life. The story has a deeper meaning though, expressed in the
involvement of much symbolic representation. The author, Sarah Orne Jewett, paints a
vivid and descriptive image of the young heroine and her surroundings in the story.
I will try to primarily focus on the symbolism and representation in the story. I will also
mention the subtle references the artist made to the biggest struggle in a young persons
life self identification.
Sarah Jewett seemed to start the story off to a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This showed how much diction and speech alone establishes
much of the story base within itself.
Much of the story was given to personification of nature. Nature being so
close and dear to her was primarily expressed in her affection for the cow and the birds.
The author practically made the large tree in the story come alive. One statement says,
...the sharp dry twigs caught and held her and scratched her like angry talons, the pitch
made her thin little fingers clumsy and stiff as she went round and round the tree s great
stem, higher and higher upward (SOJ pg.436). The description and life she brings to the
story makes the narrative very interesting and readable.
The next chapter in the story becomes very fluid and poetic. One prose states,
Half a mile from home, at the farthest edge of the woods, where the land was highest, a
great pine tree stood... (SOJ pg. 435). As the story begins to smooth out, it enters into a
spirit of representation. A man who wishes to dominate and destroy all that Sylvia holds
dear, enters her life as a desired lover. The romantic prose and ideas in the story illustrate
even better what the author is feeling about the gray eyed child . One verse states, The
woman s heart, asleep in the child, was vaguely thrilled

I to ruin that bond they shared? How could I intrude on a relationship that spanned for years and
will probably span on for more years in the future? I could not ruin their friendship but maybe I
just had to. For my sake. My curiosity towards them scared me but it also fascinated me.
Perhaps, my initial interest was piqued because seeing them interact was like witnessing two

reminded me of me to the point where I felt as if I was watching an exact replica of myself.
Somehow, they managed to feed on my needs, transforming into the very people they knew I

News Channels Are Becoming Entertainment Today
Have you wondered how much more difficult it has become to tell the difference between
entertainment and news channels on television? After all, the television channel business, worth
Rs18,000 crore in advertisement and subscription fees, is dominated by the entertainment genre.
And print, with Rs14,800 crore in revenue, is still largely about news. This is despite the fact that
there are more news channels than those of any other genre. Earlier this year, in response to a
question in Parliament, the minister for information and broadcasting announced that there are 201
news and current affairs TV channels and 180 non news and current affairs TV channels uplinked
from India. Also waiting in the pipeline are applications of 97 private... Show more content on

Testicular Cancer
Testicular Cancer
Testicular cancer is a Cancer that develops in the testicle. Usually only one testicle is affected, but
in some cases both testicles are affected. Testicular cancers starts in the cells that develop into
sperm, which are called sperm cells. (Australia, 2015).
It is a cancer that commonly occurs in men. Young men around the ages of 18 to 40 are most at
risk of developing testicular cancer. Common symptoms of testicular cancer includes a lump in the
testis, the feeling of heaviness in the scrotum and the change in the size and shape of the testicles.

(Blecher, 2014) This is usually found in 3 to 5 boys in every 100. Men with a history of
undescended testes have about ten times the chance of testicular cancer; the risk may be lower
if surgery is used to fix the problem which usually happens before one year of age. (Blecher,
2014). Another risk factor, is previous testicular cancer. This affects about 1 in 25 men who
have had testicular cancer in one testis develop cancer in the other testis . (Blecher, 2014).
Previous male infertility is also another risk factor in testicular cancer. It is shown that Men
diagnosed with fertility problems, particularly those with a history of undescended testes, may
have a greater chance of developing testicular cancer . (Blecher, 2014). This is due to pre
cancers cell sometimes found in testicular biopsies from infertile men (Blecher, 2014), however
this does not conclude that all pre cancer cells will develop into cancer. Furthermore, family
history is also considered as a risk factor. Testicular cancer can also be through family and
therefore if a family member is diagnose with the cancer, there is a minor risk that someone else
is also going to get it. Men who suffer from Down syndrome will also be at a higher genetic risk of
testicular cancer due to genes mutation.

Catcher in the Rye Theme Essay
Catcher in the Rye written by J.D. Salinger, is a novel in which the author creates much irony in
the way he presents the loss of innocence or the fall from innocence in his main character, Holden
Caulfield. While Holden clearly believes in protecting the innocence of children in society, he
himself cannot seem to hang onto his own innocence. Throughout the novelHolden shows his love
and protection for childhood innocence, the irony that he in fact himself may be losing his own
childhood innocence mainly due to the responsibilities which he has taken on, and also shows that
he may be more innocent than the reader first thinks as his simplified view of a complex world is
much like an innocent child would see. In this novel... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Ariana Grande s Song You Don T Know Me
Art can be expressed in many different forms. Such as paintings, literature, dance, photography,
and music. The purpose of art is to convey stories to an audience. An example of this would be
Ariana Grande s song, You Don t Know Me . In this song, Ariana is telling the story of how
people are judging her based off of what is said about her in the media, instead of getting to know
her for themselves. Art can be interpreted in different mediums. I decided to use the different
principles and elements of art such as emphasis, focal point, color, variety, pattern, rhythm, positive
shapes, and contrast in order to recreate the story that Ariana is singing about in her song. In my
composition, I am telling the story of a two girls. First, I drew... Show more content on

In my piece, I used the repetition of the shapes of lines and colors to create a pattern. This pattern
of alternating colors created an alternating rhythm in my artwork. I received inspiration for this
rhythm from the alternating rhythm in the song. Grande s Song starts off with heavy bass and
is loud, but transitions into a softer and slower rhythm. Throughout the song they rotate. In my
composition, I recreated this alternating rhythm by the way I had my lines start from the bottom
corner on the right side, but on the opposite side I started my lines from the top corner. The
alternating colors and lines on both sides create their own rhythms which coexist to form a
complex, alternating rhythm in the design. Using the colored lines I made a positive shape
inside of my artwork. The outline of my figure s body is the positive shape because it appears to
be in the front of the composition. I made the girl a positive shape because instead of coloring her
in I left her colorless. The figure also creates a contrast in my artwork. The plain, whiteness of the
figure creates a contrast with the colorful lines next to it. In conclusion, I used the different
principles and elements of art to convey the story from Ariana Grande s song, You Don t Know Me
. Using emphasis, focal point, color, variety, pattern, rhythm, positive shapes, and contrast to

Touring in a band is a really good way to get known in different areas and not just your local pub.
Touring locally would be best for trying to get your name out there and gaining fans. Touring
around Australia would be appropriate for when you have quite a lot of fans over Australia.
There is no point booking a tour if no one will show up. You will lose a lot of money. Touring
overseas will cost a lot more than around Australia and is good for when you are known across
different countries. This would take a while to get to this status and would be best to use an agent
for overseas bookings and accommodation.
Artist managers are important for bands. They do many things for the band to help them; they take
care of the business side of things like contacting record companies. The manager makes sure that
everyone involved in the band is doing their job. The manager might be on the phone with a record
label asking about advertising campaigns or on the phone with an agent discussing upcoming gigs.
Tour managers make sure that tours go smoothly. They manage the tour finances, deal with
ticketing agencies and making sure everyone on tour is on task. They basically manage the people
who are on tour. In bigger bands the role of a Tour Manager might be split into three or four people.

mortgage companies struggle to achieve a proper balance be tween risk and return in their
operations. The principal risk historically faced by mortgage lenders is the possibility that their
clients will be unable or unwilling to pay the principal and interest on their mortgage loans. Prior
to the 1980s, individuals who were poor credit risks effectively had only two choices for obtaining
a mortgage to purchase a home. Those alternatives were ob taining a home loan insured by either
the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) or the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA). Borrowers
with good credit histories, so called prime borrowers, would typically seek financing for a new loan
directly from a bank, savings and loan, or other financial institutions. The deregulation of the
lending industry beginning in the 1980s made it much easier for subprime borrowers to obtain
mortgage loans to finance the purchase of a new home. The Depository Institutions Deregulation

I finished weighing in and began to warm up. Same routine as always and soon I was up next.
Ankle bands on and ball of my foot on the line. A handshake, a whistle, and the match begins.
The first takedown came quicker in this match than it did in the last. I tied up, hand fought, and
set up my shots. The match was going my way and I wrestled smart through every scramble,
keeping the upper hand. It was the third period and I had a decent lead. I got another takedown
and turned him to his back. For a second I swear I had him pinned but the referee was not in

In the first period I got in deep on several shots but he was able to get out of bounds and cause us
to reset in the middle of the mat. The second period began and it was my choice of position.
Usually I would choose to defer to the second period but since it was 0 0, I chose bottom position.
In the event of sudden death overtime the wrestler who scored first gets to choose whether they
want to be on top or bottom position. The first overtime would be one minute in the neutral
position and if no one scored then it would be two 30 second periods with each wrestler getting a
chance at top and bottom position. If it s still tied after that we would go to a 30 second sudden
death victory in referee s position, which is the starting position with one wrestler on top and the
other on bottom. An escape is more likely than turning and getting back points so that s why I
chose to take bottom in the second period.
I got the escape quickly and was up 1 0. Escapes were another thing I was really good at. The

I was six years old when I entered the foster care system. Perhaps entered is too soft of a term.

my biological parents, but I know my dad was always on a short fuse, and one day, he blew up. I

picked me up and threw me onto Gavin, who d just gotten off the ground from his first strike.
Dad kept yelling at us. I didn t know why, and it scared all of us. I knew my mom was scared
because she crawled across the floor behind dad, to the coffee table just feet from her, and
swiped the little silver bottle she always carried around with her. After she scrambled back to her
corner and took a drink from it (the bottle, which I later learned was called a flask) she looked to
Gavin and me with big, sorrowful eyes. She couldn t stand up to dad at that point even if she
wanted to. The pain began to set in from my fall, so like any normal six year old I started to cry.

Hypnosis Persuasive Speech
am absolutely sure you ve heard about Hypnosis. Either as being a procedure of treating wounds
of the heart and soul (past) or as an alternative remedy for a variety of physical health situations.
Some years ago hypnosis was a privilege of an elite of people who understood how to practice the
secrets and techniques of the art. They had the right information. Of course, they chose to keep the
precious info away from the masses.
As a hypnosis specialist for more than 10 years now, I feel I am able to write a little something
useful, especially for those who haven t yet dived in the magical realm of hypnosis!
So, in this article I will try to clear the field for you and tell you exactly what you will need to have

Did you know you possessed certain psychic talents? Qualities provided to you from your creator
before you were given birth to! As you arrived on our planet however (as a new child), you forgot
all about it. This loss of memory effect was constantly enhanced as you brought up with bogus and
restrictive beliefs.
Okay! It s definitely not your fault. But it surely will be, if you do nothing at all about it now
that you know what went down. So, with hypnosis it is possible to uncover all those impressive
psychic (paranormal should you prefer) abilities of yours. Might be remedial powers or intuitive
skills and so on, you are a specialist in a certain field without being aware of it most of the times.
But you can uncover the whole real truth!
This is how hypnosis can certainly help BUT you must initially confirm to yourself that you really
possess those abilities. And you are not the only human being on the earth with those advantages!
So keep confirming and having faith and you will be led to where you wish to be (having all the
right information in your hands)...
And that s all to get started with Hypnosis!
But before I leave you I wish to provide you with one final word of

Memories In The Silent Cry
Each novel has specific themes or images it is attempting to portray throughout the text. The
Silent Cry is no exception to this attempt. After reading the novel, it soon became clear to me
that the theme of this novel is the importance of memories. I believe that the novel is trying to
show how important our memories are while highlighting the differences of these memories
between family members based on their life experiences. The first place where we can see the
vastly different recollection of memories is when the brothers are discussing S. Takashi has very
fond memories of S bringing him candy and being the leader of the village men. Mitsu, on the
other hand, remembers quite a different S. He recalls him being weak and the laughing stock of

Takashi sees him like a weak man and emphasizes the strength of his grandfather s brother. Mitsu
recalls something quite different. If we look at their memory of who went to Kochi first,
grandfather or his brother, we see that the confusion continues. Takashi claims that it was the
brother who went up to Kochi. Mitsu proclaims that it was their grandfather who went first. He
recalls exact dates and uses that in his arguments against his brother. Mitsu enjoys taking this
memory way from his brother and declares that he has the memory mistaken: That was what he
wanted to believe, so he was almost consciously ignoring the fact that it was wrong (Oe, Pg. 95)
The importance of memories is key to understanding the novel, but we must also focus on the idea
of life experiences. I believe that the life events that each of the brothers has experienced alter the
way in which they recall memories. Mitsu has been going through a rough time. His good friend
just killed himself, and his wife just gave birth to a son with medical issues. He is used to seeing
difficult things and has no trouble recalling painful

Compare And Contrast Essay On The Lovely Bones
Compare and Contrast of the remediation of Novels to film with reference to The Lovely Bones.
The Lovely Bones is a 2002 novel by Alice Sebold about a teenage girl called Susie Salmon, a 14
year old girl who was raped and murdered by her neighbour George Harvey in 1973. She then
watches from her own personal Heaven as her family and friends struggle to move on with their
lives while she comes to terms with her own death. We follow Susie Salmon throughout the story as
she witnesses the events on the earth, experiencing hopes and longings for the everyday things she
can no longer do. In 2005 Director Peter Jackson secured the books film rights and created his
own film adaptation in 2009 which was met with mixed reviews but overall was well received.
The film relatively stays faithful to the novel by Alice Sebold but major themes of the story are
glanced over or emphasized, characters aren t as developed and some major plot points are missing
entirely.
The novel The Lovely Bones has many characters who each have their own subplots which
contribute to the overall story in minor ways and gives the reader the opportunity to learn about
each character. For example one of the biggest elements of the story is Heaven and its depiction.
In the novel Sebold who was raised Episcopalian intended the heaven to be simplistic in design
and not to be the focus of the story. Unlike in Peter Jackson s film where heaven is ultimately a
large proportion of the film, focusing more on spectacle

your idea. For example, in section 27, Watson and Crick finished building the next double helix
DNA structure model after a long wait for the metal bases that were required in order to continue
constructing it. In section 28, they found out that the data that both he and Rosy had supported the
structure that James and Francis had built. Rosy s idea that there had to be an outside backbone
and middle bases also worked hand in hand with the double helix model. By using others already
existing data, they were able to confirm that the model was strongly supported... Show more content

The very first man who is mentioned, is Francis Crick. In the beginning, Watson didn t know much
about crystallography and was unable to progress faster without the knowledge, so Crick taught him
about it. All throughout the adventure, Crick and Watson were constantly jamming their heads
together, working hard towards the discovery. This included gathering data, discussing theories
with, and even building model structures. Without Francis, the discovery of the structure of DNA
wouldn t have happened as soon as it did. Another important scientist mentioned is Maurice
Wilkins. In the first place, Wilkins was who inspired Watson to study DNA. When he presented
his photograph of crystallized DNA in Naples, that is what first caught Watson s attention and
drew him to the topic. Maurice was also someone who Watson and Crick shared their information
and discussed theories with. When Watson went to Maurice s lab to tell him about Linus Pauling
s incorrect paper, Maurice showed him the copies of X ray photographs that he had copied from
Rosalind Franklin. Speaking of Rosalind, she also played an important part in the discovery. She
was Maurice Wilkins assistant in the lab, someone who Maurice had gripes about because of her
moodiness and seemingly stubborn attitude. Despite this, no one can deny that her contribution was
just as necessary as the other scientists in

Trojan War in HomerВґs The Iliad
Homer s Heroes
The epic poem called The Iliad written by Homer concerns the Trojan War. It shows Trojan and
Achaean warriors courage, bravery and their attempt to become the best fighter to get fame, glory,
and honor. The heroes in The Iliad follow Homer s heroic code, striving for excellence. Hector and
Achilles strength comes from their desire for fame, glory, honor and their acceptance of fate.
These qualities are considered to be characteristics of Homer s heroic code. However, the actions
of Paris are not heroic causing trouble and conflict for many people. In fact, Paris non heroic action
started the Trojan Warand the hatred between Greece and Troy.

Thetis...tells me of two possible destinies...two ways: if on one hand I remain to fight around Troy
town, I lose all hope of home but gain unfading glory; on the other, if I sail back to my own land
my glory fails but a long life lies ahead of me. (K 47 54)
The proper burial which Achilles does for all his victims in the war is a heroic action. Since
burial is a very important thing for both Achaeans and Trojans, the families of the dead ones were
able to appreciate Achilles respect for the dead people. Andromache says of Achilles attack on her
father:
He killed him, but, reverent at least in this, did not spoil him. Body, gear, and weapon forged so
handsomely, he burned, and heaped a barrow over the ashes. Elms were planted round by mountain
nymphs of him who bears the storm cloud. (J 127 33)
Achilles requests to his mother, Thetis, to ask Zeus and make the Trojans stronger until
Agamemnon and his army realize that they need Achilles back in order to win the war. So,
Thetis asks Zeus, Lend the Trojans power,/ until the Achaeans recompense my son/ and heap new
honour upon him! (C 20 23) The strategy that Achilles plans works out and eventually he is back
in the army. However since he chooses fame and glory over a long and relaxing life, the time for
Achilles death comes. Being the hero that he is, Achilles accepts his fate when Hector foreshadows
it and mentions his death is close by.

Everyone Is Mortal
Everyone will one day face mortality. This was also true for Prince Prospero in the short story
by Edgar Allen Poe, The Masque of the Red Death . In it is a version of the black plague, which
is called the Red Death . Prince Prospero secludes a thousand friends and himself from the death
around them, but finds that he cannot avoid the inevitable. The author uses many literary devices
to develop the theme of unavoidable death. One of the devices used is imagery, which evokes the
events of the story clearly in the reader s mind. Another is allegory, which is used by Poe to create
another story within his, as it is filled with double meanings. Lastly, Poe utilizes symbolism to give
the story meaning. Edgar Allan Poeuses imagery, allegory, and symbolism to add dimension to his
story and to express the theme that one cannot escape death, no matter how hard one tries.
Poe uses imagery to paint a picture in readers mind, create a mood, and emphasize the significance
of certain objects. One can envision the amazement of the chambers, which had ...a tall and narrow
Gothic window...of stained glass whose color varied in accordance with the...hue...of the chamber
into which it opened and was lit up by ...a brazier of fire that projected its rays through the tinted
glass (421). One can also imagine the way the crowd slows down to a pause when the ...chiming of
the clock... [causes] disconcert and tremulousness and meditations (423). These descriptions keep

How Did Culture Influence Ancient Egypt Life And Culture

October 3, 2017 The Nile greatly influenced Egyptian life and culture. It also influenced artwork
as well, for a few different reasons. The backbone of Egypt was and still is the Nile River, which
through its annual floods, supported all life in that land. Throughout history Egyptian defined
cultures, and influenced the way they had developed along its banks. Most of the crops grow with
the water from the Nile River because of the rich soil it brings to them. The beginnings of Egyptian
civilization predate writing and are consequently obscure. Art work developed along the Nile just
like the crops. On the banks of the Nile River around 3500 B.C.E. Egyptians created the tombs,

In the paintings of people in Egypt, ancient Egyptians would make the important person bigger
than the other people that were less important. When people were drawn, they would be drawn
with the head to the side, eye to the front, shoulders to the front and feet to the side. The
background of the drawing shows some of the history of the time period. Although Egyptian art
was originally created for religious and magical purposes, it also symbolizes and functions to
reveal the Egyptian s beliefs about the world. It also shows their attempts to understand and
relate to these beliefs. In the Egyptian social and religious context, works of art played a
practical role, whose straightforward physicality is not easy for the modern viewer to realize.

The Crucial Role of Teiresias in Sophocles’ Antigone...
The Crucial Role of Teiresias in Sophocles Antigone
Antigone is a tragic play written by Sophocles in ancient Greece during approximately 441 B.C.
The story is set in a palace in Thebes, a city within Greece. Teiresias is an old blind prophet who
claims to be capable of seeing the future, he has yet to tell a prophesy to be untrue; he has immense
credibility. A theme within the text is: quality not quantity. In this translation of Antigone
, Teiresias
has exactly 76 lines of text. Physically this is very little of a role; one could assume Teiresias is not
an important character at all; however, this is untrue. Teiresias is a character with an extremely
minute role, yet he has immense influence over the resolution of the story, the ... Show more content

Creon now says, Old man ... Make profit, trade in Lydian silver gold, pure gold of India; that s
your chief desire (1034 38). The man who just two minutes ago had the complete respect of the
king is now the prime enemy of Creon; accused of selling out for money. In most stories, any
character with only 0.06% of stage time would not have the power to transform the leader of a
society from polite to mean. Teiresias must be very important if he has the audacity to talk down to
the king and not executed for it. This is evidence that while minor, Teiresias has much respect and
possesses the capability to influence the attitude of extremely powerful characters such as Creon.
Teiresias also has the ability to influence the mental status of Creon and his tragic downfall. After
Teiresias convinces Creon to reluctantly free Antigone, he discovers that his son is now dead as
an indirect result of the past decisions Creon has chosen to make. Anything resulting in the story
subsequent of Teiresias brief stage time is the tragic downfall of our tragic hero, Creon. Actions

The Legal Action For Negligence Against Jimmy Farnham And...
Answer A
The major shareholder might not be successful in the legal action for negligence against Jimmy
Farnham. This is because the audit firm was not under a contract agreement with the major
shareholder, and the fact that the major shareholder can be considered a third party in the
contract between Jimmy Farnham and Aussie Outback Tours Ltd. The law is not definitively
clear on the auditor s liability to third parties (Porter, Г“ hГ“gartaigh Baskerville, 2012). An
auditor owes a duty of care to their direct client, and any damages incurred by the client due to
negligence on the part of the auditor makes the auditor liable in terms of contract and also in tort

He had advised the client to assign the review and evaluation of the new database to an independent
contractor. The fact that Jimmy was not familiar with the new system of accounting that the client
was implementing and therefore not involved in the changeover process absolves him and his audit
firm from direct liability. It is also hard to prove that the error in material inventory that resulted
from the changeover was committed when Jimmy was auditing the firm or at the instance of feeding
the data into the system. Admittance to liability is also dependent on whether the auditor had
placed disclaimers of responsibility in the preparation of the audit reports.
The criteria for the determination of the auditor s liability to other parties apart from the clients are
as follows:
The defendant must have reasonably foreseen that the statements would be put to use by the plaintiff
A relevant degree of proximity must exist between the parties involved in the litigation
The imposition of a duty for care by the plaintiff on the defendant must be just and reasonable
(Davies, 1991; ACCA, 2009).
There is no evidence presented in the case above to the effect that the defendant was aware of the
likelihood of the judgements he made being used as a basis to make judgement by the plaintiff.
The plaintiff also has a hard tasks of proving that there was a close proximity between them and

The United States has constantly been developing and advancing their military branches,

United States Coast Guard, and the Air Force. The first branch of the military to form was the
Army in June 1775. The Army formed after the American Revolutionary War. Its purpose was to
coordinate attacks on Great Britain s Military. The next branch of the military to form was the
United StatesNavy. The Navy was formed in October 1775. The Navy had been assigned missions
to ambush, prevent, and hinder British aquatic or naval operations. After the Navy came the United
States Marine Corps. The Marine Corps was a special tactical team that was able to fight at sea
and on shore. 15 years later came the United States coast guard. The United States Coast Guard
enforced maritime safety generally to enforce federal tariff and trade. The next branch didn t form
for many years later until 1947. The Air Force was created to defend the nation through the control

The Sex Trade Still Exists
No one said life would be easy. Every day is filled with trials and tribulations which must be
overcome to get to the next. What we face here in the United States is, as we see it, extreme. We
see homeless people, families struggling to get by, stock market failing, gas prices rising,
unemployment going up, and much more. But elsewhere, their struggles are different. Their
obstacles in life are more challenging than our measly problems in this first worldcountry. The sex
trade still exists, slavery among women and children, trafficking of girls and drugs, and so
much more. From the book Sold by Patricia McCormick comes a story about a girl named
Lakshmi and her struggles from the mountains of Nepal carried to Happiness House where she
was sold into the sex trade, and through it all is able to learn that, simply to endure, is to triumph
(16). Lakshmi grew up a poor mountain girl in a village in Nepal. From an early age she was
willing to do whatever it took to get a tin roof for her family. Let me go to the city. I can work for a
rich family...and send my wages home to you (1). Having a tin roof in their village meant they
had some money and they would be safe and dry form the rain. However, Lakshmi s stepfather

The Approach to Nature of Descartes and White Essay
The Approach to Nature of Descartes and White The approach to nature which RenГ© Descartes
takes is distinct from that of Gilbert White. Descartes and White have similar key methods of
examining nature. It is mainly in Descartes deductive reasoningand beliefs that lead him to the
method of approaching nature internally (mind and body). Conversely, White s keen observances,
inductive reasoning, and appreciation for his surroundings lead him to the method of investigating
the external nature (Selborne). Although... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this hierarchy, God stands as some more perfect being on which [humans] [depend] (Descartes,
26). Humans are placed in the centre, because God grants us the ability to reason the ability to
distinguish what is true from what is false (Descartes, 22). Below us rest animals, having no reason.
Truth in nature therefore, must not come from animals since they are lesser beings, but rather, it
must be found within humans.
White finds appreciation for the external nature which Descartes considers to be less certain
(Descartes, 28). While Descartes takes a rational approach, White takes a scientific, yet literary
means toward nature. He observes nature ardently, noting animals modes of life housing,
reproduction, communications, transportation, and physical appearance. His ability to personify
these animals creates a meeting place for wild life and human feeling (White, xvii). In his
recordings for example, White observes the swallow s mode of life. It builds its nest, often
within barns and out houses against the rafters (White, 156). The swallow lays from four to six
white eggs, dotted with red specks; and brings about her first brood about the last week in June, or
the first week of July (White, 157). The swallow is a delicate songster, and in soft sunny weather

Isle Of Brazil Research Paper
Many, many years ago, the Isle of Brasil, or Brasil, was an island off of the coast of Ireland. No
one had visited there. The island was mapped on many nautical charts, and somehow no one
could find Brasil. Perhaps the reason why is because a dense fog seems to always cover the
island. This intrigued two of England s most prized explorers in 1899. The first explorer s name
was Harrison Abbot, born in April of 1871. He was a tall, thin man with dark brown hair. He had
blue eyes that glistened in the sunlight. The second explore was Orville Andrews, born in March
of 1870. He was a bit shorter than Harrison and a bit wider too. He had blond hair and hazel eyes.

wore tuxedos filled with ritz and glamour. Some chose to wear bow ties while others wore
ascots. The line for the boardwalk s grand and luxurious theater grew longer by the minute. It
was playing The Sign of The Cross directed by French director Georges MГ©liГЁs. Harrison and
Orville were in the que waiting to see the film. While waiting, they noticed that a piece of paper
had been left stuck in between the wooden boards of the boardwalk. Harrison wiggled it just a
little until it was freed. The corners tore a little. He noticed that it was a nautical chart. When he
saw that it was from 1843 and outdated, he simply put it in his pocket and thought about
throwing it away after they had seen the film, but Orville noticed that the chart had a mysterious
and suspicious looking landform on it. He asked Harrison if he could take a look at the it. The
map showed that an island was located off of the coast of Ireland. The rounded letters printed
over the island read, Brasil. The two had not heard of nor seen this island before. They were
familiar with Brasil Rock which lay in a similar location on more recent charts. So they decided
to leave the boardwalk and head to the library where the figured they could find more
information on Brasil and its history. It was late by the time they had made it to the library. It
was dark inside. The exquisite, dark, detailed woodwork reflected the glow of beautiful golden
sconces and desk lamps which seemed to be the only light source. While researching, Harrison and
Orville discovered that the legend claims that the island is only visible one day every seven

  • 2. Inequality in British Schools Is there a problem of Inequality in British schools? The educational system is one of the most influential institutions in society as it provides young people with a vast amount of knowledge, attitudes and skills. These are acquired formally through set lessons or informally through the hidden curriculum which provides the unofficial and unplanned consequences of school experience. Social Inequality is one of the major preoccupations of sociology. The relationship between inequality and education has been studied for many years. Although it seems obvious that educational success is simply down to an individual s capabilities and motivation, sociological research shows that the inequalities in social class, gender and race and ethnicity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On the other hand if the teacher labels a pupil as un co operative or from a poor background, this can cause low self esteem and the pupil will be likely to fail to achieve much success. The Neo Marxist s perspective on class stratification in Britain claims that schools create a false class consciousness so it seems that they promote equal opportunities for all, but they really reproduce a capitalist division of labour, preparing young people for class determined careers in the labour market. Willis (1977) accepts the Marxist s view on education being closely linked to the needs of the capitalist s system; however he does not agree with the idea of there being a direct link between education and the economy. (Macionis. J, Plummer.K, 2008) His study found that poorer children often grow up in environments where people see little hope of upward social mobility and rebel against the system rather than trying to conform with in. In such an environment adults often discourage rather than encourage success at school. (Macionis. J, Plummer.K, 2008) Social class is not the only inequality in Britain s schooling. Sociologists have also found a link between gender and academic success. Until the late 1980 s there was high concern about the underachievement of girls. Societies had been structured to consider schooling more important for males than for females. Although the gap in gender ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the introduction, the author tries to tell the readers about the adverse effects of omission in health care. The study does not have research about the reasons why the nursing staff has omitted care (Polit, Beck, 2008). The problem statement is clearly and directly stated. The methods used in collecting information have been mentioned in a separate section where they are stated clearly. Lack of the current literature on the subject and the challenges facing health care sector in providing nursing care is an opportunity for anyone to conduct such study. The method that was used in interviewing the target group is consistent with the naturalistic paradigm of qualitative research. The traditional research used in the study has not been mentioned in the introduction. Due to lack of information, one cannot make an assumption about the research problem. The reader can quickly identify the key concepts of the study in the introduction section. The researcher did not indicate specific examples about poor patients care despite indicating that staffing is related to the missed nursing care. Review of the literature Reference to the review of the literature has been stated in the introduction. In Eugenia Collier s short story, Marigolds, the main character, Lizabeth, and the other citizens of the town she lives in, including her parents, her friends, and Miss Lottie, must learn to cope with that stress, and in Lizabeth s case, learn how to deal with the effects of maturation. The different types of conflict within Marigolds are man versus man, man versus society, and man versus self because Lizabeth has to face peer pressure, the living conditions brought by the Great Depression, as well as the development of her own emotions. Due to the lack of entertainment, Lizabeth and her friends have to resort to bothering Miss Lottie for fun, and they compel Lizabeth to ransack the marigolds Miss Lottie pours her love into. At first, she is hesitant to perform such an immature act, but her friends continue to taunt her, jeering, You scared, Lizabeth? (Collier 3). If you are a fan of the band Nirvana, you have probably heard of these names. If not, you are about to read how a town affected a person who in turn affected many people s lives. Kurt Cobain was the singer and guitarist for Nirvana. He was born in Hoquiam (population 9,000) and after six months of life moved to Aberdeen (pop. 16,500), an old lumber town at the eastern most point of Grays Harbor. The town is about four miles wide and three miles long. On the northern and eastern sides of town are steep hills where the richer families live in Victorian style houses. At the foot of the ... Prostitution prospered with as many as fifty whorehouses in the downtown area. Prostitution was around until the late fifties when the police finally ended it. (Azerrad 12) The lumber boom slacked off a few years ago as the economy fell and available lands were depleted. Now people are worried that the Northwestern logging industry will not be able to recover and Aberdeen is marked for a slow ugly death. (Gilmore 44) According to Kenn Oberrecht, Aberdeen s name is from a city in Scotland. The name is Gaelic and means the meeting of two rivers. Aberdeen, in case you do not know, is at the joining of the Chehalis and Wishkah rivers. It is about one hundred miles south west of Seattle and 48 miles west southwest of Olympia. (164) The first sawmill was built in 1884 and the shipbuilding industry prospered until the 1920 s. If there is a single attractive thing about Aberdeen, it would be the 98 square miles of surrounding estuaries, tidelands, and marshes that attract shorebirds by the hundreds of thousands. They come every April and May to rest and feed for the long trip north to their arctic and subarctic nesting areas. (165) Suicide is unusually high in Aberdeen. Introduction The International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health, also know more commonly as ICF was originally proposed by the World Health Organization (WHO) for trial purposes in 1980 and was known as the International Classification of Impairment, Disability and Handicap (ICIDH) (reference). The ICIDH aimed to provide a cohesive and consistent language tool for the classification of the consequences of disease and the implications for the individuals involved (reference). As a slice of life movie, one scene stands out between separating Yoshi, the father, and his co workers. While the camera pans across an office of yawning workers, Yoshi is patiently waiting at his desk for something, like being called into his boss office. During his discussion with Mr. Iwasaki, his co workers criticize him for kissing up to the boss, by moving into the suburbs. Following this conversation, the camera slides the other way, showing all of the office employees busy at their desk, before abruptly cutting to the children in schooldoing the same thing. Only three certain characters have distinct works, the teacher, who is very clean cut and put together much better than the salarymen. And Mr. Iwasaki, who is covered in film and smoking a cigar, while his employees outside are smoking on their own rolled cigarettes. • 10. Comparison Of The Book And Alice In Wonderland Comparison of Alice in Wonderland Book and Movie Alice s Adventures in Wonderland written by Lewis Caroll was originally published on November 26, 1865. On the other hand, the movie version, directed by Clyde Geronimo, Wilfred Jackson, and Hamilton Luske and produced by Walt Disney, was published in 1951. Carroll s book has twelve chapters and begins by describing a girl who named Alice that falls down a hole and finds herself in wonderland. In comparison, the movie begins with a scene not included in the book in which Alice sings about her world, foreshadowing wonderland. In the beginning, the versions are similar. Alice follows the rabbit because she is bored with her sister who only wants to read books with pictures. When she follows the rabbit, Alice finds herself in a different world. The difference is that in the book when Alice comes to the place, she finds the rabbit and follows him until she sees many doors. In the movie, however, the door talks to her instead. In the movie Mrs. Doorknob never appears, but the door has magic and gives her a potion bottle and box on the table. Conversely, in the book the bottle and box are already there. Because she didn t see the two things, they appear after she talks to the door and he works his magic, and she drinks the potion to become smaller so she can enter the door. Lawrence uses several techniques such as literary allusions, repetition, and a sarcastic tone to denounce Hester Prynnes sin. Lawrence utilizes literary allusions in his essay to emphasize his pessimistic views on Hester by comparing her to other figures in literature. When I ran between them saying, Mommy, daddy, don t fight, dad picked me up and threw me onto Gavin, who d just gotten off the ground from his first strike. Dad kept yelling at us. I didn t know why, and it scared all of us. I knew my mom was scared because she crawled across the floor behind dad, to the coffee table just feet from her, and swiped the little silver bottle she always carried around with her. After she scrambled back to her corner and took a drink from it (the bottle, which I later learned was called a flask) she looked to Gavin and me with big, sorrowful eyes. She couldn t stand up to dad at that point even if she wanted to. The pain began to set in from my fall, so like any normal six year old I started to cry. That s when my brother snapped into action and picked me up off the ground, immediately fleeing the scene...right in the middle of dad s tantrum. After reading the novel, it soon became clear to me that the theme of this novel is the importance of memories. I believe that the novel is trying to show how important our memories are while highlighting the differences of these memories between family members based on their life experiences. The first place where we can see the vastly different recollection of memories is when the brothers are discussing S. The Lovely Bones is a 2002 novel by Alice Sebold about a teenage girl called Susie Salmon, a 14 year old girl who was raped and murdered by her neighbour George Harvey in 1973. She then watches from her own personal Heaven as her family and friends struggle to move on with their lives while she comes to terms with her own death. In 2005 Director Peter Jackson secured the books film rights and created his own film adaptation in 2009 which was met with mixed reviews but overall was well received. The film relatively stays faithful to the novel by Alice Sebold but major themes of the story are glanced over or emphasized, characters aren t as developed and some major plot points are missing entirely. The novel The Lovely Bones has many characters who each have their own subplots which contribute to the overall story in minor ways and gives the reader the opportunity to learn about each character. For example one of the biggest elements of the story is Heaven and its depiction. But elsewhere, their struggles are different. Their obstacles in life are more challenging than our measly problems in this first worldcountry. The sex trade still exists, slavery among women and children, trafficking of girls and drugs, and so much more. From the book Sold by Patricia McCormick comes a story about a girl named Lakshmi and her struggles from the mountains of Nepal carried to Happiness House where she was sold into the sex trade, and through it all is able to learn that, simply to endure, is to triumph (16). Lakshmi grew up a poor mountain girl in a village in Nepal. From an early age she was willing to do whatever it took to get a tin roof for her family. Let me go to the city. I can work for a rich family...and send my wages home to you (1). Having a tin roof in their village meant they had some money and they would be safe and dry form the rain. However, Lakshmi s stepfather gambled away everything he owned and eventually even Lakshmi. Lakshmi lived and learned in a Patriarchal world. From early on she was taught by Ama, her mother, what her identity in the world needed to be. ...carry yourself with modesty, bow your ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. The Approach to Nature of Descartes and White Essay The Approach to Nature of Descartes and White The approach to nature which RenГ© Descartes takes is distinct from that of Gilbert White. Descartes and White have similar key methods of examining nature. It is mainly in Descartes deductive reasoningand beliefs that lead him to the method of approaching nature internally (mind and body). Conversely, White s keen observances, inductive reasoning, and appreciation for his surroundings lead him to the method of investigating the external nature (Selborne). Although... Humans are placed in the centre, because God grants us the ability to reason the ability to distinguish what is true from what is false (Descartes, 22). Below us rest animals, having no reason. Truth in nature therefore, must not come from animals since they are lesser beings, but rather, it must be found within humans. White finds appreciation for the external nature which Descartes considers to be less certain (Descartes, 28). While Descartes takes a rational approach, White takes a scientific, yet literary means toward nature. He observes nature ardently, noting animals modes of life housing, reproduction, communications, transportation, and physical appearance. His ability to personify these animals creates a meeting place for wild life and human feeling (White, xvii). In his recordings for example, White observes the swallow s mode of life. It builds its nest, often within barns and out houses against the rafters (White, 156). The swallow lays from four to six white eggs, dotted with red specks; and brings about her first brood about the last week in June, or the first week of July (White, 157). The swallow is a delicate songster, and in soft sunny weather sings ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 55. Isle Of Brazil Research Paper Many, many years ago, the Isle of Brasil, or Brasil, was an island off of the coast of Ireland. No one had visited there. The island was mapped on many nautical charts, and somehow no one could find Brasil. Perhaps the reason why is because a dense fog seems to always cover the island. This intrigued two of England s most prized explorers in 1899. The first explorer s name was Harrison Abbot, born in April of 1871. He was a tall, thin man with dark brown hair. He had blue eyes that glistened in the sunlight. The second explore was Orville Andrews, born in March of 1870. He was a bit shorter than Harrison and a bit wider too. He had blond hair and hazel eyes. His upper lip sported a handlebar mustache. The two had been the best of friends... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Little boys and girls were running around laughing and playing. The ladies held pastel purple, blue, and yellow parasols trimmed with decorative lace. Their dresses, full of opulence, matched the umbrellas. They were almost like a piece of art having many fine details. The gentlemen wore tuxedos filled with ritz and glamour. Some chose to wear bow ties while others wore ascots. The line for the boardwalk s grand and luxurious theater grew longer by the minute. It was playing The Sign of The Cross directed by French director Georges MГ©liГЁs. Harrison and Orville were in the que waiting to see the film. While waiting, they noticed that a piece of paper had been left stuck in between the wooden boards of the boardwalk. Harrison wiggled it just a little until it was freed. The corners tore a little. He noticed that it was a nautical chart. When he saw that it was from 1843 and outdated, he simply put it in his pocket and thought about throwing it away after they had seen the film, but Orville noticed that the chart had a mysterious and suspicious looking landform on it. He asked Harrison if he could take a look at the it. The map showed that an island was located off of the coast of Ireland. The rounded letters printed over the island read, Brasil. The two had not heard of nor seen this island before. They were familiar with Brasil Rock which lay in a similar location on more recent charts. So they decided to leave the boardwalk and head to the library where the figured they could find more information on Brasil and its history. It was late by the time they had made it to the library. It was dark inside. The exquisite, dark, detailed woodwork reflected the glow of beautiful golden sconces and desk lamps which seemed to be the only light source. While researching, Harrison and Orville discovered that the legend claims that the island is only visible one day every seven ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
