David Mcclelland And Motivational Needs Theory
McClelland (1917 1998) and motivational needs theory
A doctor of psychology, David McClelland pioneered workplace motivational thinking, developed
achievement based motivational theory and promoted improvements in employee assessment
methods. He is best known for describing three types of motivational need which he identified in
his book, The Achieving Society (1961)
Achievement motivation
A person with strong motivational need for achievement need will seek to reach realistic and
challenging goals and job advaancement. They thrive on overcoming difficult problems or
situations. People motivated by achievement work very effectively either alone or with other high
achievers. There is a constant need for feedback regarding progress and achievement ... Show more

Mc Gregor s Theory X and Theory Y
According to Mc Gregor s studies conducted in 1950 s,one of the most important determinants of
success of a business is the attitude of managers to workers. He identified two distinct management
approaches to the workforce and he called it Theory X and Theory Y.
Theory X
Theory X mangers tend to take a pessimistic view of their subordinates and assume that they are
naturally demotivated and dislike work. As a result, they think they need to be prompted, rewarded
or punished constantly to make sure that they complete their tasks. This in turn encouraged
centralised management style.
The manager assumes that their subordinates :

пѓ Avoid responsibility and need constant direction.
пѓ Have to be controlled, forced and threatened to deliver work.

Analysis Of The Book The Crucible By Dawson Cole And...
In small town of Oriental, Dawson Cole and Amanda Collier become the high school sweethearts
that everyone wanted to be, but no one, including their parents wanted them to be be together. It
was bad for the reputation of the family. After several years the finally meet again and the rekindle,
or tried to, that old spark that used to be there. Who knew that death could bring a couple back
together.
PAGE 18 19
I think this part is important because this is where their lives changed forever. Amanda got into
her dream college and her parents would disown her because she is dating Dawson. This wouldn
t be so bad, but Dawson is a Cole, the bad family in town, they always causes trouble, but Dawson
never did. Amanda is a Collier, which is one of the more upper class families in town, and like all
small towns new travels fast and this new could ruin the reputation of the two families, mostly
Amanda s, no one wants to ruin the last name. Dawson wants the world for Amanda and he knew
he couldn t give that to her and still be in a relationship with her, he would only bring her down.
During this scene one of my favourite quotes were said;
Dawson: If you love someone you re suppose to let them go, right?
Amanda: And if they come back it is meant to be? Is that what you think this is? Some sort of
cliche?
That little encounter is important because after that she went away for college and made a new
life for herself, trying to forgot the one person she will ever truly love

DUMBO Travel Guide
DUMBO, a catchy acronym for down under the Manhattan bridge overpass , references a
neighborhood in the Brooklyn borough of New York. Stretching from the Manhattan bridge to the
Brooklyn bridge, then further east to the Vinegar Hill region, originally DUMBO was known as
Fulton Landing. During its industrial heyday, this area of New York was a port of call for ferries
and steam boats. Immediately prior to the turn of the century, all of the buildings in the area were
focused solely on industry, including cardboard and Brillo cleanser.
As time passed, a desire to de industrialize the area garnered momentum, allowing for many of the
business buildings to be transformed into housing and apartment complexes. Many middle and ...

Earbuds Cause Hearing Loss And Decibels
Earbuds are a major when we go places. Even though they are lightweight, small, and convenient,
they have a darker side. They can hurt your hearing. They can damage your eardrum over time.
Why you may ask. It is because the of volume. The volume is the cause of the damage, not the
earbud. Here is why and how to stop it. Earbuds cover your ear and let your hear sounds out of
you device. The normal noise of city traffic is about 85 decibels. Anything over 85 may cause
hearing loss. With the volume at about 70%, that is about 75 decibels The article Doctor says it s
best to keep the volume at medium or lower with ear buds states some smartphones can crank
music all the way up to 120 decibels. If you listened to an entire album at that volume,

Level 3 Supporting Teaching
Unit 311 Support Literacy Development

Literacy is fundamental to all areas of learning from an early age, as it unlocks access to the wider
curriculum. Being literate increases opportunities for pupils in all aspects of life and lays the
foundations for lifelong learning and work.
Competence and confidence in literacy, including competence in the three major areas, reading,
writing, speaking and listening, are essential for progress in all areas of the curriculum. To
broaden and enhance children s literacy skills, opportunities need to be given by providing them

How To Stop Comparing Yourself To Others And Start Thriving
In the new age of social media, people are constantly getting bombarded with multiple
expectations on how one should live their life. With the infinite scrolling of exciting status
updates on new jobs, more money, new travel destinations, relationship goals, etcetera; it can be
rather easy for someone to feel inadequate at times about how less exciting their life might be
compared to the next. In an article written by James Berges and posted on Shine titled, How to
Stop Comparing Yourself to Others and Start Thriving, goes more in depth on this idea of
comparison overload. Berges is a freelance writer with a Bachelors degree in Psychology, and in
his article he uses studies, statistics, and anecdotal examples to help engage the reader on his
stance on social media and the negative effects it has on the brain. In the beginning of the article,
Berges... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He gives examples on how it s just not social media that causes people to compare themselves,
but society and the global economy in general. He emphasizes to the reader that there is always
going to be someone more richer, attractive, or smarter than them. And although that is a harsh
realization, it puts the reader in check and remind them that oneself to everyone is always going
to be a never ending, losing battle. He also mentions an important point that social media is
filled with highlight reels. Berges is essentially reminding the reader that no one is going to post
their bad days on social media, so comparing one s behind the scenes to a highlight reel is a
disservice. In the article he also attaches a YouTube video titled, What s on your mind? The video
provided a great enhancement and visual aid to the point he was trying to make. He knew that just
writing about the issue wasn t enough, so providing the video allowed the reader to visually see
and relate to the effects social media can have on a

Descriptive Essay About Home
My definition for home is indescribable by word or by a simple thought, but home is rather of a
feeling. Home is the calmness and serenity that settles over me like a blanket on a cold, snowy
night, just a silent assurance telling me I belong there. It took me quite a bit of time to
understand where exactly that place is, and I didn t know that the answer was always right in
front of me. This feeling would come and go, and I would never recognize it because I knew that
only the house I lived in was my home. Home is in fact more than what the words in the dictionary
say.

picnic basket to later share with everyone. We would walk along to the fieldand my job was to

some would even admire me for being such a helper. At lunchtime, I sat there along with all those
workers, eating with them and listening. Their conversations mostly consist of the weather and
how they could improve the rice farm. Often, I would make a comment saying, Don t worry, I will
help , and they loved me. I was the farm s little helper this is my home.
There was a tiny pond with a small bridge in beside our old house. The water was so clear that I

and my favourite T shirt, with my long dark hair tied back, a true fisher look , I thought. I put
my biggest toe in first to check if the water was cold, but I always ended up soaking myself all
the way, up to my head trying to catch as much fish as I could. My friends and I filled that bright
pink bucket full and our hearts were filled with the sense of achievement of the day. Often, we
were kind enough to give some fish to the cat that sat on the bridge admiring us this is

approaches. The second part of the essay will provide an argument of how applying these

This action has caused Lend lease sites in lockdown across the country, as stated by one of the

shows that if Lend Lease has followed the pluralist approach, the action may be able to be under
control as Lend Lease will act by considering the words and the issues rose between the
management and the employees and can act accordingly to the issue. However, according to the
examples shown, Lend Lease seems to have been following the unitarist approach which has in
fact, escalated the conflicts between the management and their employees as shown in the article
published by green Left. The article mentioned that Lend Lease did not made a sincere approach
to the negotiation and offered something that the Union consider as a joke which did not loosen
the tension but added more stress on top of it. Identify which one of the approaches provides the
better explanation. Explain your reasoning. Based on the industrial action that has been taken
against Lend Lease, it shows that Lend Lease was first using the Unitarist approach to their
employees by not willing to negotiate with their new proposal. This has than created an enormous
negative impact on both the social and the company as the projects were likely being delayed due
to the industrial actions. Conclusion: In conclusion, Lend Lease would have been able to

The Silent Partners And The Social Responsibility Model Of...
Novel Ideas silent partners have numerous concerns with public officials calling off layoffs
including the hindrance of economic performance, an increase in insolvency, and an inability to
maximize company profits.. We realize that the principal motive is to maximize profits. As
investors in our company, we understand why the silent partners tend to agree with the social
responsibility model of Milton Friedman. The silent partners, like Mr. Friedman, feel as if we
need to utilize our resources and engage in activities that diminish the economic volatility our
company is facing (Crawford, 9/20). A primary concern is to do whatever it takes to maintain the
company s solvency, while adhering and staying within any legal boundaries. Another concern the
silent partners may have is the social responsiveness strategy that the officials from the local
chamber of commerce and local economic development group want us to utilize. The local
organizations want us to avoid layoffs, so the community can maintain economic stability.
However, we know that the silent partners are concerned that if we do not fire one of the full
time employees, we will not be maximizing our profits, and again increasing the economic
volatility of our business. As the silent partners have mentioned, firing one of the full time
employees would not be of concern as we would save money, increase profits, and still maintain a
satisfactory level of customer service. However, many would categorize our strategy as

Andy Griffith Show Research Paper
The Andy Griffith Show and I Love Lucy There are many American shows that are considered
classics. Two of these shows are The Andy Griffith Show created by Arthur Stander and I Love
Lucy created by Jess Oppenheimer et al. Although there are many similarities between the two
shows there were also a number of important differences. In this essay it will be argued that many
of the differences between the two shows are the result of their different settings and the fact that
they were produced a many years apart. This resulted in a number of film making innovations that
were present in The Andy GriffithShow that had not been present during the production of I Love
Lucy. The most important differences between the two shows was their settings. The Andy Griffith

The Andy Griffith show took place in a community that was usually in harmony. Most of the
stories involved something that disrupted the harmony of that community. This was usually
something like a stranger in town or a conflict between community members(Stander). I Love
Lucy tended to deal primarily with the struggles between Lucy and Ricky. On a wider level it
can be considered a show about the relationships between men and women. Also because the
show takes place in an urban center issues like jobs, going out and modern appliances were all
important. The addition of new people did not appear to be an issue in this urban
setting(Oppenheimer et al). The settings of the shows result in very different tones and pacing.
The tone of The Andy Griffith Show is very harmonious largely because it is set in a small rural
community. The pace of life in this community is very slow and relaxed so the show as a whole

Summary Of Django Unchained
An auteur is a director that influences their films so that they can be considered as an author.
Quentin Tarantino is considered an author through his unique directorial film style, examples of
Tarantino s directorial film style are; his use of camera work especially with extreme close ups,
bloody violence, and long drawn out scenes. We have studied Quentin Tarantinos 2012 film Django
Unchained, as well as Tarantino s first box office movie Reservoir Dogsto analyse.
Quentin Tarantino uses camera work in both Django Unchained and Reservoir Dogs to display
character emotion. From what I had analysed I noticed that Tarantino s use of close up and mid
shots help the audience to examine the character s facial expression, from when Calvin Candie is
showing them the skull of an African, you can really see the pity in Dr. King Schultz s eyes and
the anger in Django s face, from Reservoir Dogs cafe scene, you can see each individual character
s facial expression, representing their personalities.
A scene in Django Unchained , that Tarantino applies great camera work is during the skull
examination scene , the scene featured Dr. King Schultz, Django, Calvin Candie, Stephen, and
Broomhilda. The scene opens up with a mid shot on Calvin Candie presenting to them an African
skull, the camera then shifts back and forth to Dr. King Schultz and Django. The camera provides
us with close up shots of both Dr. King Schultz and Django, presenting to us their emotions.

Low Fat Research Papers
According to several independently done studies, the key to losing weight is simply to eat the
right foods. Proteins and fat are actually the best foods for losing weight because they satisfy
people for longer and do not cause the dramatic blood level spikes or high insulin levels that
carbohydrates do. In fact, until the last few centuries, the average human diet consisted mostly of
these two vital ingredients. In controlled experiments, people who are put on an almost entirely
protein fat diet (1900 total calories a day) with less than 240 calories a day from carbohydrates
end up losing one to three pounds a week without feeling noticeably hungrier. The energy levels of
people following these diets actually increase during their fast and overall wellness levels go up.

Carbohydrates were not heavily relied upon for energy until the advent of the agricultural
revolution. During the short time frame between the revolution and now, humans have not had
time to adapt to changing eating patterns. Thus it intuitively makes sense that you can lose
weight by eating a traditional high protein high fat diet. Studies have shown that eating a high
carbohydrate diet, not a high fat one is correlated to a higher incidence of heart disease. This is
because the fatty acids and triglycerides that clog arteries are composed not only of fat but also
of high energy carbohydrate chains. High levels or sugar in the blood are needed in order to
direct the synthesis of these clots. It is for this reason that tribes like the Maori which eat an
extremely high fat high protein diet demonstrate an almost nonexistent level of heart disease and
obesity. One dieting example: when two British nutritionists, Bruce Bistrian and George Blackburn
told their obese patients to eat nothing but lean meat, fish, and poultry (650 to 800 calories a day)

Is Technology A Servant Or Master Essay
Technology: Servant or Master?
Technology can be used as a helpful tool, but when it controls someone s life it can have many
negative effects. Several scientists have conducted research proving technology can hurt someone
mentally and emotionally when used as a safety blanket instead of a helping hand. The effects
include a lack of motivation, time management, concentration, and problem solving skills. Other
effects observed are changes in emotions and relationships.
As technology has continued to grow and evolve, it has also changed how society functions and
interacts. In Christian Lange s Nobel Peace Prize speech, he says Technology is a useful servant but
a dangerous master. When technology is used only to aid, it is a servant. It becomes the master...

IT Sourcing Essay
Business Transformation by way of IT Sourcing?
Overview
Do I think IT sourcing can be a transformative agent? Absolutely. Should IT sourcing be used as a
transformative agent? Not only do I reply in the affirmative, I d go so far as to say that IT
sourcing, where applies, is the key to successful business transformation.
We have got to ask ourselves this question first why do companies outsource? The bigger they are,
the more likely they are to be geographically distributed. The more distributed they are, the more
likely they are to outsource their IT requirements. The reasons are simple local vendors, like
Cognizant Technology Solutions or Tata Consultancy Servicesin India, are established players,
incorporate industry wide best practices, operate on a large scale (which is exactly what the client
company seek to achieve), possess expertise in varied technology domains and have stellar
reputations for delivering quality IT services. More importantly, they offer cost reduction and
efficient technology management.
However there has been a subtle but steady shift in end user preferences that renders the traditional
outsourcing models redundant. Clients can no longer afford to be satisfied with just reducing their
costs. To stay competitive in this increasingly dynamic environment, to retain their user base and
market share, companies are now looking to their sourcing vendor partners to innovate and provide
technology enabled business transformation [1].

Essay on Pros and Cons of the Atkins and South Beach Diets
Pros and Cons of the Atkins and South Beach Diets
People consider many factors when choosing a diet: what best suites their needs, how it fits with
their body type, and what the diet entails, are all aspects taken into account. The Atkins and South
Beach diets are plans that take different approaches in style but end up having similar results in
the end. Atkins serves to eliminate carbohydrates and focus on more protein enriched foods; this
idea sells because it offers a way to lose weight fast. The South Beach diet on the other hand is a
method that takes a more balanced approach; it aims to teach people about the good carbohydrates
and the good fats versus the bad. Because these diets have both pros and cons, it ... Show more

This idea is one of many involving the pros and cons of the Atkins plan in comparison to diets
similar to it.
Another reason why so many people choose the Atkins plan is because dieters are allowed to
consume good tasting, fatty foods, during the induction phase of the diet. However, as tempting
as these food options may be, the end result shows an increase in cholesterol that is proven to
have a negative effect on the heart and body as a whole. Furthermore, another aspect of the Atkins
diet is the fact that it is proven to generate weight loss, however, the drawback is that the loss is
only for a short amount of time, and not easily maintained. The likelihood of losing the weight and
keeping it off is something that researchers are still trying to show as a possibility (Harper, 1). But
there are alternatives to the Atkins plan, the most common of which is Dr. Arthur Agatston s South
Beach diet. While Atkins serves to eliminate almost all carbohydrates and replace them with foods
high in fat, the South Beach diet attempts to simply teach people how to eat the good carbohydrates
and fats, and eliminate the bad. Not only does Dr. Agatston want to teach people the correct way to
eat, he also reinstates the importance of exercise intermixed with a healthy food regimen. Similar to
the Atkins diet, South Beach starts with a two week induction phase where

Chapter 1 INTRODUCTION 1.1 PROBLEM SUMMARY AND INTRODCTION 1.1.1 Problem
summary India is the seventh largest nation with an area of 3.287 million km2. Moreover, it is a
relatively rich and rapidly developing country; for this reason demand for electricity is growing
on significantly average at around 5% annually. In addition, one of the most fascinating aspects
of solar cells is their ability to convert the most abundant and free forms of energy into electricity
without moving parts or components. Also, they do not produce any adverse forms of pollution
that affect the ecosystem. India s rooftop solar capacity addition grew 66 percent from last year
to reach 525 mega watts. The state power grid system has supplied electricity to approximately
80% of the population living in the state capitals and industrial centres. Based on recent studies,
PV technology and application is economically viable to be adopted in tropical countries like India
where it receives more than 7 hours of direct sunlight each day throughout the year. Hence, India
now tends to move on the new trend of solar energy. To measure the data continuously was not an
easy task for earlier technology because of lack in advancement of software technology. So, we

God Is The Pure Essence Of Perfect
No one on this Earth is perfect, only our God is the pure essence of perfect. With God s love and
perfection He is able to use us, the imperfect, to carry out His will. We have all sinned and
continue to ask for forgiveness when needed. Although we are not perfect, God still has a plan
for our lives and it is our duty to follow out His will. In the Old Testament there are books of
history, which discuss God s use of some imperfect individuals to accomplish His purpose for
Israel. There are twelve books exactly that deal with the history of the nation of Israel and how
God accomplished His goals. These twelve books are Joshua, Judges, Ruth, 1st and 2nd Samuel,
1st and 2nd Kings, 1st and 2nd Chronicles, Ezra, Nehemiah, and Esther. These books share a
prophetic view of history describing how the obedience or disobedience of God s people is
directly tied to the blessings and curses of the covenant. The first of these books is Joshua. In
this book, the possession of the land by the nation is the main point. It tells us the story of Israel
s arrival at Canaan, otherwise known as the Promise Land, while under the leadership of Joshua.
God appoints Joshua as a leader and that he will never leave him or forsake him. Joshua stood
strong in his faith, his obedience to God, and he was courageous. So although Joshua was one out
of many men that were not apparently flawed, this book is a foundation for all that was to come.
The second book of history was Judges. The Book of Judges is

The Global Catch Of Shrimp Species
1.Introduction
Penaeid shrimps (Family Penaeidae: Rafinesque, 1815) are the most economically important
crustaceans in the world as a primitive group of decapod (Abele, 1991; Chan, 1998; Dall et al.,
1990). The family has a world wide distribution in shallow, inshore tropical and subtropical
waters. The highest diversity of the family members occurs in the Indo West Pacific region with
about 205 species grouped into 26 genera (Farfante and Kensley, 1997; Martin and Davis, 2001;
McLaughlin et al., 2005; Nizinski, 2003). The global catch of shrimp species is about 3.4 million
tons/year. More than half of which are caught from the Western and Northwest Central Pacific
fisheries, besides the contribution of other essential fisheries in the Indian and in the Western
Atlantic Oceans (FAO, 2014).
Shrimps remain to be the largest single product in value terms accounting about 15 % of the
internationally traded fisheries products in 2012. Moreover, shrimps are primarily produced in
developing countries, and much of this production progressively expands in the international trade.
As the economic conditions develop in these countries, growing demand leads to high domestic
consumption leading to fewer exports. Such high demand and the subsequent overexploitation are
negatively impacting the standing stocks of shrimp which fall below the healthy standard levels.
This requires regular monitoring, assessment and management of each species to keep tracking of
the effects of such

Cell Signaling Essay
Cell signaling in the central nervous system refers to the communication that occurs in cells to
coordinate* cell actions, as the cells receive and respond to other cells to help with many functions
in the body, from immunity to development to growth.
Cell signaling begins at the axon of the cell, which is the long fiber part of a nerve cell where
electrical impulses are conducted and sent from the cell body through the axon to other cells. At the
axon the action potential (define short term change in the electrical potential on the surface of a cell
(e.g. a nerve cell or muscle cell) in response to stimulation, and then leads to the transmission of an
electrical impulse (nerve impulse) that travels across the cell membrane.) is conducted. ... Show

The voltage dependent sodium and potassium channels are closed. A stimulus would then cause the
voltage dependent sodium channels in the neuron s membrane to open, causing the Na+ ions that
were outside the membrane to rush into the cell. This would cause the cell to become more
positive. If the signal is strong enough to cause the voltage to reach a threshold, in which the
positive charge reaches somewhere between 40 and 55 mV, it causes a depolairsation as the cell s
charge is a reverse due to it being more positively charged while the outside of the cell, lacking in
Na+, becomes negatively charged.
The depolarization triggers the sodium channels to close, and the voltage dependent potassium
channels to open, causing K+ to move out of the cell to reduce the concentration gradient**. This
is the repolarisation stage, as the inside of the cell becomes more negative as the K+ ions leave the
cell.
The neuron is then hyperpolarised when there are more K+ on the outside than Na+ in the inside
of the cell, meaning the cell has a more negative charge than the outside of the cell. This causes the
cell s potential to be slightly lower than its initial resting potential. This is the last stage of an action
potential, after which there is a refractory (resting) period until which the cell returns to its resting

Language Planning and Language Development
LANGUAGE PLANNING AND LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT
Language is a typically human phenomenon. In moving from the natural being of animal existence
to the cultural being of human existence, language plays the decisive role. Language gives a sense
of identity to an individual as well as a social group and, in the process, creates multiple identities.
The maintenance, merger, clash and change in identities based on and reflected in the language
change has prompted linguists, philosophers, psychologists, sociologists, anthropologists and
political scientists to study language in its multifarious dimensions. Since economic and societal
planning have to, of necessity, take into account the context of planning, there is no wonder that

5. Illiteracy is a major problem of the country (Pattanayak 1974). Out of 800 million illiterates in
the world, India is credited to have 400 million . if in eradicating illiteracy the intention is to move
from a culture of silence to a culture of thinking participation and the emphasis is on the creation
of an intelligent task force for economic and industrial development, then, urgent and bold steps
need to be taken in this area. Literacy in a multilingual must be based on the expressed needs of a
people3. Secondly, the language of literacy has to be determined keeping in view the various
contexts of language use and strategies linking the languages of literacy with that of education and
administration.
It would thus be quite clear that whether it is in the field of language use in education, language
use in administration or in mass media, there is a constant need to weigh alternatives and plan
action. The examples cited above are as true of any multilingual country as they are of India. Such
examples not only establish the necessity for language planning, but also the need to analyse its
process and product.
Before talking about language planning, one must understand the motivation and mechanisms of
planning. Planning is not merely a catalogue of resources and the organisation and mobilization of
these resources to reach a certain defined goal. Since the technocrat is seldom the decision maker, it
is important that the planner provides alternatives and

Under Armour is steadily moving itself into the mainstream of selling performance and/or

weak spots through geographic dimensions and segmental dimensions. In this case, Under Armour
uses the segmental dimension. The segmental dimension serves the market s uncovered needs. As a
matter of fact, according to the Flank strategy, the purpose of marketing is to discover needs and
satisfy them. This is exactly what Under Armour has done and what it continues to do. It has
been the fuel that steers this ship to success. Under Armour is deliberately planning its future
according to its consumer base. For example, Under Armour is has recently entered the cross
training footwear market by releasing a very specific product which I will explain later in the
paper. When CEO Kevin Plank was asked as to why he was pursuing the cross training category,
his answer was simple: It s the same reason we went after football cleats, because our customer
asked us for it. (Olson 2008) This marketing concept has not only helped Under Armour grow
exponentially, but it has helped Under Armour separate itself from other sportswear giants like
Nike. Nike s philosophy which believes in telling the athlete what s best for them portrays them as
being the loud, stubborn, know it all type whereas Under Armour portrays themselves as the player

Othello, the Moor of Venice is one of the major tragedies written by William Shakespeare that

The requirements include, following the definition of a tragedy, definition of tragic hero,
containing a reversal of fortune, and a descent from happiness. William Shakespeare fulfills
Aristotle s requirements in this famous play. Aristotle the famous philosopher outlined several

Effects Of Japanese Internment
The Japanese Americans were treated harshly because Americans turned their animosity on the
Japanese Americans for a crime that was committed by Japan. Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, after
that the Americans had a fear of being attacked on the west coast, this caused the relocation of
Japanese Americans to internment camps. The internment of Japanese Americans was disgraceful
and unnecessary. But, because the United Statesfeared that if Japan was to attack, the Japanese
Americans would stay devoted to their country and fight against America. Their relocation was a
strategy to annihilate Japan. Still, taking innocent Japanese Americans away from their homes for
no reason other than them having Japanese blood in them is absolutely disgraceful, especially
because some of them fought with the United States in WWI. The internees had to spend the days
of the war crammed in camps. Two and a half years later the order was reformed, and in 1945, the
last camp was closed. Japanese Americans were sent to internment camps after Japan bombed Pearl

The Unbearable Lightness Of Being Character Analysis
The Unbearable Lightness of Being is written by Milan Kundera, a Czech novelist. It is mostly
set in late 1960 s Prague. The novel explores the state of life after the Russian military occupation
of Prague. The author does not follow a chronological order throughout the novel, which is a
reflection of how disorderly life is. It is a time of conflict both spiritually and physically. People
start to question the meaning of lifeif there is any meaning at all. Kundera begins the novel by
refusing both Nietzsche s interpretation of eternal return and Parmenides classification of lightness

disintegrates gradually and eventually becomes unbearable. On the other hand categorizing one
theory as unbearable does not necessarily make the other bearable. If Kundera rejects both lightness

A Critical Analysis of the National Numeracy Strategy Essay
A Critical Analysis of the National Numeracy Strategy.
The National Numeracy Strategy was implemented in September 1999, setting a target for 75% of
all pupils reaching at least level four in mathematics by 2002. This essay will focus on the findings
since the implementation of the strategy for both pupils and teachers. In order to do this I will
examine the Numeracy Strategy Framework guidelines, which state how the teaching of
mathematics should be carried out in primary education and evaluate some of the main criticisms
since the implementation.
Since the implementation of the Numeracy Strategy, a maths lesson should occur on a daily basis
in every class from reception to year six. According to the Framework of the Strategy, each... Show

When working with individuals or pairs, teachers need to ensure that the rest of the class is
working on related tasks and exercises.
The last stage of the lesson consists of a plenary session, which lasts between ten to fifteen minutes
and brings the whole class together in order to summarise what they have learnt. This stage of the
lesson should be a time to sort out any problems that children may have had, make links with other
work and to set homework.
Some plenary sessions may last longer than others depending on the outcomes for e.g. more time
may be needed for explanation and discussion to identify errors and misunderstandings. It is
important to iron out any problems at this stage before moving onto another task.
Although this is just a brief description of a typical lesson from the Framework guidelines of the
Numeracy Strategy, it is clear that the importance of mathematics is stressed over and over again.
This is evident where the Framework continually stresses the importance of linking mathematics
wherever possible. The Framework suggests that children should identify between mathematics and
other subject areas for e.g. in geography map reading will require calculations of measures and
angles etc. Teachers are encouraged to bring to the attention of their pupils where these links can be

Summary Of Esther Hautzig s The Endless Steppe
How would you feel if you and your family were suddenly taken from your home and lost all
your money and then are forced to move to a place that is nothing like where you lived before?
This is a sad, true story of what happened to a little nine year old girl named Esther Rudomin and
her family in the book The Endless Steppeby Esther Hautzig. Esther and her family were suddenly
seized by Soviet troops because they are accused of being capitalists, or enemies of the people,
and are deported to the grasslands of Siberia. This book is the story of a girl and her family s
determination to survive during the harsh surroundings after being exiled during World War II. In
1941, Esther lived in the town of Vilna, Poland. One June day, Esther and her family are
suddenly arrested by Russian soldiers and are taken away from their home. They were taken on a
six week journey to a Siberian labor camp in Russia. There they were forced to work, Esther s
mother and father worked in a gypsum mine. Father drove the wagon, Esther s mother
dynamited, and her grandmother shoveled gypsum. Esther weeded the potato field. Esther was

Reflections on Syndicate Group Work
Reflections about syndicate group work
I always had a different opinion to our group leader, but he always made me give in, even when I
was not at all persuaded by his arguments, I can t explain how that happened . This statement made
by one of my group members is quite revealing. While she recognizes the dominance of our
leaderВґ, she is perplexed because she fails to understand how she was manipulated.
How did he do it? Was it only his dominance or were there perhaps Machiavellic elements in his
behaviour who made his opinion prevail? And was it beneficial to our groups effectiveness? I will
try to solve this question in the main part of the essay.
First, I will give a short overview of our groups development and then ... Show more content on

The groups last meeting, Sunday night before the presentation is characterized by a high level of
motivation, since there is only one more night left until the deadline. It was only then when we start
filming the interview and make the final adjustments.
I will use Vroom s (1964) expectancy theory in order to analyse the level of motivation by our
group members. According to Mento, Cartledge and Locke (1980), Expectancy theory emphasises
that the motivation to perform is dependent on the strength of the expectancy that the act will be
followed by a certain outcome (reward) . It focuses on three relationships: Effort performance,
performance reward and reward personal goal. (Reinharth, Leon, Wahba, Mahmoud, 1975) In order
for the motivation to be maximized, these relationships must be positive. According to a non
directive qualitative interview of 10 minutes with each group member, I found the first relationship
to be strongly positive, i.e. all of the members admitted that their effort would lead to a certain
performance.
The second relationship, namely the fact that my group members thought that their performance
would lead to a desired outcome, was significantly weak, i.e. there was no contingency between
contributing and achieving. Every single team member argued that the statistical probability of
having the desired outcome, i.e. winning the price, was low, given the fact that there would be
more than 15 groups

The Factors For The Website
In the first part of Learning Aim A I looked at the purposes of websites and the requirements need
for websites to be successful and to have as many views from users as possible. In the second part
of this learning aim I will look at the factors needed for the website to be developed.
In order to develop a website you need use scripts. Scripting language is a computer language
which is easy to learn and write which consists of a group of commands that ca be executed
successfully. There are different versions of scripts for example Perl, PHP and Python and
JavaScript which has become the most popular and most preferred.Script is also used in HTML as a
tag, which is used for defining a client side script such as JavaScript. The tag ... Show more content

oNumber of hits The number of hits simply means the number of people that view the webpage at
the same time. So, the more people trying to view/access the webpage at the same time the slower
the webpage will load slowing down its performance. This is due to the fact that the server will
complete the requests in the order it receives the. This issue can only really be resolved by using a
more powerful server which can complete more than one request at a time.
oExecutions performed before webpages are loaded Before a webpage can be loaded all the files
(such as images and videos) that are part of the webpage need to be found. So this means that the
more files a webpage has the longer it takes for the server to find these files delaying the webpage
from loading at a quicker pace. In addition any server side scripts need to be executed before
HTML files are sent to the user s computer. Scripts can run relatively slow so, in order to prevent
this from occurring and making sure that the performance is as fast as possible the web developer
can speed up the process by making the PHP scripts run quicker.
Client machine scripting Client side programming is mainly involved with the user interface, so
in this case it is the browser, in the user s machine, that will run the code which is mainly done in
JavaScript. The code must be able to run in a variety of browsers. The client side which is normally

Photography Is A Type Of Art
Photography has been around for many years. In the time that the first camera was invented to
present day, various styles of photography have evolved. Two types of photography that are very
common today are street and nature or landscape photography. Although these styles of
photography have many similarities, they have some differences as well. The subject, camera
equipment, and location are three major differences in these styles. All types of photographywill
have a main focus, or subject. Street photography is a type of art that focuses on the people and
the art in which that city contains. For good street photography, you want to be located in a busy
city or downtown area. Ideal locations in the US include New York, Chicago, Los Angeles,
Seattle, Las Vegas, and many more. This is because in a large city with lots of traffic, you see
many different types of people. All street photographers have different types of styles of portraying
this in their work, but the people of a city are a main focus. Street photographers like to focus on
subjects such as construction workers working in the middle of the road, businessmen/women
rushing from point A to point B, the environment of a homeless person, and many other things. It is
also popular in street photography to capture city art like graffiti and performers.
Equipment is very important with every photographer. The two main things that are important for
good quality photos are the lens and the camera body. Street

Reflection On Family Relationship
In this skills session my client brought her relationship with her mother and her feelings about
that relationship. She brought feelings of sadness hurt upset and grief . She states early in the
session I m constantly searching for some sort of love and affection from her . She describes
feeling neglected and disregarded by her mother and the rest of her family. She admits that these
feelings have stretched into the rest of her life and have left her feeling unworthy not good
enough and like she doesn t matter . She states that she feels not worthy of affection or care or
regard . My client was questioning why her mother behaves the way she does towards her. She
finds her mother s behaviour difficult to understand and feels she doesn t understand where it s
coming from . During the session my client describes her mother s behaviour in a particular
scenario when she felt her mother behaved differently when she had an audience to play to. My
client described feeling ganged up on by her mother, who was backed up by her visiting
relatives. It is clear my client wants a relationship with her mother and states this clearly when
asked. She is seeking answers what is going on , what is going on with this attitude? My client
states that she has suffered with feelings of being unworthy for most of her life and suffered a
nervous breakdown two years ago after which she sought help from counselling and her GP.
Considering what I have outlined above it would appear that my client s feelings of being
unworthy and of not being good enough arise from feeling that she doesn t matter to, or is
disregarded by her mother and other family members. It would appear that my client s evaluation
of her self worth or self esteem has been affected by her close family relationships. Carl Rogers
(1959, p200 p223) describes the development of the self concept (how an individual perceives
themselves) and how this self concept is heavily influenced by the conditions of self worth set out
by others. Conditions of worth are constraints or preconditions, which an individual perceives are
placed upon them by individuals external to them. The individual believes that these preconditions
must be satisfied or

Quantitative And Qualitative And Quantitative Data
Qualitative and Quantitative The manager needs qualitative and quantitative data to help with
different jobs in the business. Qualitative data helps with the cashiers and counter staff s jobs while
quantitative data helps the manager with ordering new products and perishable food from the

called qualitative and quantitative data. Qualitative and quantitative data can come from internal

Firearms For Mass Shootings
Firearms is biggest topic in media in 2016. We see ads all the time of Government Restrictions or
Government Takes Away Guns and this scares us as American people. Guns are given to us by the
Second Amendment created in 1719 by the founding fathers. The founding fathers had their reasons
to create such a powerful right that would change the United States forever.
The Founding Fathers and Puritans came to America for one reason, to protect their only rights as
humans. They wanted a change that was never going to happen living in England under a British
monarchy. Both these groups wrote a written framework for government ( Mayflower Compact and
Constitution). The government would be run by the people and would take all considerations ...

out one cookie ( the Second Amendment) out of the cookie jar and finds that the cookie was so

government taking away our twenty seven Amendment rights. We have come this far in history to
have them all taken away. Guns aren t just used to kill but are also utilized for sport and hunting.
Many families I know in upstate New York use their guns to still put food on the table and to
make an income. The people who use guns for a serious reason are not the problem, the problem is
the government still allowing criminals to carry and buy

Themes Of Power, Deceit, Racial Discrimination, Fate, And...
The Man in the High Castle tells the story of a parallel world, one in which the Japanese and the
Germans won the war, and the world now operates in their favor. The story line revolves around
a book that is written by a man who only writes what the Ching says to. One book in particular is
forbidden to many, and it is because the contents tell the story of what really happened , how we
got to the world we live in today. Philip K Dick wraps this intriguing story around themes of power,
deceit, racial discrimination, fate, and gendernorms of the 1950 s and 60 s. The tone for power was
set very early in the novel. A substitute, then. Your recommendation, Mr. Childan? Tagomi
deliberately mispronounced the name; insult within the code that made Childan s ears burn. Place
pulled, the dreadful mortification of their situation. Robert Childan s aspirations and fears and
torments rose up and exposed themselves, swamped him, stopping his tongue. He stammered, his
hand sticky on the phone (Dick, 2). This example occurs in the first chapter. You could believe
that this is a simple error on Mr. Tagomi s part, or you could view it from the aspect of blatant, yet
sidle, disrespect masked in the disguise of an honest mistake. Mr. Tagomi knew this would get
underneath Mr. Childan s skin based upon his standards for respect and public manners. From the
very beginning Mr. Tagomi played into the struggle for power expressed throughout The Man in the
High Castle. The story is

Free Trade Blocs, A Major Step Towards Economic Integration
Free Trade Blocs Free trade blocs are intergovernmental agreements that limit regional barriers to
trade by integrating different economies. The four types of trade blocs are Preferential Trade Area,
Free Trade Area, Customs Union, and Common Market. The specific trade blocs included in this
analysis are Mercosur, North American Free Trade Agreement, European Union. Preferential Trade
Area (PTA) is when countries in the same geographical region agree to eliminate or reduce tariff
barriers on certain goods. Similar to PTA, the Free Trade area is when two or more countries agree
to eliminate or reduce barriers to trade and freely import and export goods between each other.
Members of a trade blocwho remove trade barriers internally, while imposing a uniform tariff on
non member countries is an example of a Customs Union. Members of a Customs Union will
come together and negotiate tariff regulations with countries outside their bloc. One of the most
comprehensive trade blocs is the Common Market. A Common Market is a major step towards
economic integration. In a Common Market, bloc member countries are able to trade all economic
resources without restraint. While other types of trade blocs primarily free up the trading of goods
and services, the Common Market frees the flow of capital and labor between member nations.
Also in the Common Market bloc tariffs and non tariff barriers are removed, increasing free trade
activity. Nations that belong to a Common Market must have

Creating Space: Resolving the Problem of National Identity in English Canadian Literary History
1867 1967
Abstract: In 1967, Canada celebrated her centennial as a country unified outwardly, but inwardly
divided. Within Canadian letters both French and English Canadian literary historians had spent a
hundred years unsuccessfully attempting to create a unified narrative to explain the shared story of
their origins. This paper will focus primarily on English Canadian literary histories, and the part
they played in resolving the problem of creating the nation of Canada. I will argue that it took a full
century to solve the problem , and was achieved by Northrup Frye s when he moving English
Canadian literature outside the realm of socio politics and entirely into the mythopoeic sphere.
However, this conclusion , relied on a modernist understanding of the role of meta narratives in the
shared story of nationhood, without which assumption, such a conclusion risks becoming little
more than a rhetorical contortion. I will conclude by suggesting that it was only when Canadian
letters moved beyond centralized meta narratives, and started to embrace (in Robert Kroetsch s
words) Disunity in Unity that a true Canadian literature and a more balanced literary history could
begin emerge.
When Montreal hosted the World Exposition of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

repeated time and again as the century progresses. Space for Lareau is less important because it
serves no rhetorical function. French Canada is defined by its temporality, within neat geographical
boundaries. Of course, the literary historian, tautologically, becomes related to the nation. Not only
does he tell the story but in doing so he also creates

Together they created a new race of gods who ruled the earth. Over time Amaterasu became
concerned at the power/control that the gods wielded. Amaterasu then went to her grandson
Honinigi, these were the jewels and mirror the gods used to persuade Amaterasu out of her cave
and the sword that was given to her by Susanoo, known later as Kusanagi. These three objects
would become part of the imperial regalia of Japan. Another symbol carried by Honinigi was the
magnificent magatama jewel which had special fertility powers. The most powerful god was
Okuninushi, Honinigi landed on Mt. Takachio in Kyushu and made a deal with Okuninushi. For
his loyalty to Amaterasu, Okuninushi would have the important role of protector of the future
royal family. Later, the god would be regarded as the protector of all Japan.

Cortical Recording Platform and Monitoring Systems: principles, applications and new directions
Nirjhar Bhattacharjee
The cerebral cortex is the outer portion of the brain that covers the cerebrum and the cerebellum
(1.5 mm to 5 mm thick). It is the layer of the brain known as the gray matter. This portion of the
brain is further divided into four lobes for classification, frontal, parietal, temporal and occipital.
Our most complex mental activities like speech, memory, problem solving, planning, awareness,
and the execution of complex responses in the world are controlled by the cerebral cortex. Hence
monitoring the cerebral cortex for various disorders becomes extremely important for proper

Regulation of glutamate signaling is necessary for proper neuronal excitation in the central nervous

non essential amino acid i.e. they are produced in the body. The carboxylate anions and salts of
glutamic acid are known as glutamates. Glutamate is the principal excitatory neurotransmitter in the

Evelyn Nesbit s Ragtime
While there are many important messages in the play Ragtime, I believe the most important one is
the message about how women were treated unequally when compared to men and how this is still
a relevant theme in the world today. While there are major differences to how the female culture
was in the 1900s when compared to now, there are still unjust similarities. Throughout the story
there are femalecharacters who represent the growth that women at that time were making
however, this growth is slow and I believe it is not yet finished even today.
Even though it may seem as though Evelyn Nesbit played an insignificant role in this play, she
represented much of the unequal treatment women. She represented a type of woman that was in
existence simply to entertain men, known everywhere as The girl on the velvet swing (Athrens 0).
By the end of the play, Evelyn was motivated by money and material which, in the end, was her
downfall. Her character represents the end of the era of women being considered objects, just as the
feminist movement was beginning. However, we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Comparing The Holocaust And Armenian Genocide
According to Google, a genocide is the deliberate killing of a large group of people, especially
those of a particular ethnic group or nation. The Holocaust and Armenian Genocide are both
considered genocides. Both of these genocides compare in many ways. They both had a belief
that a race was superior to another race and they were both starved. They are also different in
many ways. They were killed in different ways, and the roles of women were different. The
Armenian Genocidewas planned ahead of time by the leader Talat Pasha from the Ottoman Empire.
It started in the Turkish parliament when they started to arrest Armenian diplomats, writers,
journalists, and lawmakers, and then killing them. They were all told they were going to be in
an army. The Armenian were raped, tortured, and killed. This genocide ended in 1923. This is
when modern Turkey was established. Pasha ran away to Germany and was convicted of
genocide in absentia. The Holocaust started with Adolf Hitler as the Nazi Leader. He believed
Germans were superior to Jews. He gathered up all the Jews and put them in concentration camps
and tortured to to literal death. They were barely fed and their bodies were pushed to the absolute
limit. One way that the Holocaust and Armenian Genocide compare is that in both there was a...

killings, there were differences too. The main way of death for the Jews was cremation. For the
Armenian, there were many ways they may have been killed, whether it was been drowned,

In the Armenian Genocide, women were raped and forced to be slaves. In the Holocaust, women

Research Paper On The Milkmaid
The milkmaid is an oil on canvas of 45.5 x 41 cm by the famous Dutch painter Johannes
Vermeer. The maid is standing in a plain scullery type room carefully pouring milk into an
earthenware container sitting on a small table next to a still life arrangement of stale bread pieces
and a full bread basket. From the way that the maid dresses up, I think The Milkmaid prescribes a
woman in the middle class.
The artist uses almost all implied lines. Taking the faceof the milkmaid as a starting point, it is
important to focus on the light coming from the window and reflecting directly upon her face in
shadows and pale scales therefore, creating an effect of three dimensionality. It makes the viewers
focus what the maid is doing: pouring milk. Then we will see a line between the milk vessel and
the bread. I also see a line from the bread basket in the left foreground to the maid s head. These
lines intersect at the maid s wrist, which lead us to the action that she is doing. Other lines in the
work are the window and framework, the edge of the table, the outline of the woman s clothes,
and the bottom of the wall. These implied lines are less important than the line from the maid
eyes. If you take a closer look, you will see a parallel line between the slant of the basket to her
diagonal slant of her arm and head.

In small town of Oriental, Dawson Cole and Amanda Collier become the high school sweethearts that everyone wanted to be, but no one, including their parents wanted them to be be together. It was bad for the reputation of the family. After several years the finally meet again and the rekindle, or tried to, that old spark that used to be there. During this scene one of my favourite quotes were said; Dawson: If you love someone you re suppose to let them go, right? Amanda: And if they come back it is meant to be? Is that what you think this is? Some sort of cliche? That little encounter is important because after that she went away for college and made a new life for herself, trying to forgot the one person she will ever truly love ... He knew that just writing about the issue wasn t enough, so providing the video allowed the reader to visually see and relate to the effects social media can have on a ... • 10. Descriptive Essay About Home My definition for home is indescribable by word or by a simple thought, but home is rather of a feeling. Home is the calmness and serenity that settles over me like a blanket on a cold, snowy night, just a silent assurance telling me I belong there. It took me quite a bit of time to understand where exactly that place is, and I didn t know that the answer was always right in front of me. This feeling would come and go, and I would never recognize it because I knew that only the house I lived in was my home. Home is in fact more than what the words in the dictionary say. I put my biggest toe in first to check if the water was cold, but I always ended up soaking myself all the way, up to my head trying to catch as much fish as I could. Novel Ideas silent partners have numerous concerns with public officials calling off layoffs including the hindrance of economic performance, an increase in insolvency, and an inability to maximize company profits.. We realize that the principal motive is to maximize profits. As investors in our company, we understand why the silent partners tend to agree with the social responsibility model of Milton Friedman. The silent partners, like Mr. Friedman, feel as if we need to utilize our resources and engage in activities that diminish the economic volatility our company is facing (Crawford, 9/20). A primary concern is to do whatever it takes to maintain the company s solvency, while adhering and staying within any legal boundaries. Another concern the silent partners may have is the social responsiveness strategy that the officials from the local chamber of commerce and local economic development group want us to utilize. The local organizations want us to avoid layoffs, so the community can maintain economic stability. However, we know that the silent partners are concerned that if we do not fire one of the full time employees, we will not be maximizing our profits, and again increasing the economic volatility of our business. As the silent partners have mentioned, firing one of the full time employees would not be of concern as we would save money, increase profits, and still maintain a satisfactory level of customer service. However, many would categorize our strategy as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Two of these shows are The Andy Griffith Show created by Arthur Stander and I Love Lucy created by Jess Oppenheimer et al. Although there are many similarities between the two shows there were also a number of important differences. In this essay it will be argued that many of the differences between the two shows are the result of their different settings and the fact that they were produced a many years apart. This resulted in a number of film making innovations that were present in The Andy GriffithShow that had not been present during the production of I Love Lucy. On a wider level it can be considered a show about the relationships between men and women. Proteins and fat are actually the best foods for losing weight because they satisfy people for longer and do not cause the dramatic blood level spikes or high insulin levels that carbohydrates do. In fact, until the last few centuries, the average human diet consisted mostly of these two vital ingredients. In controlled experiments, people who are put on an almost entirely protein fat diet (1900 total calories a day) with less than 240 calories a day from carbohydrates end up losing one to three pounds a week without feeling noticeably hungrier. Carbohydrates were not heavily relied upon for energy until the advent of the agricultural revolution. During the short time frame between the revolution and now, humans have not had time to adapt to changing eating patterns. Thus it intuitively makes sense that you can lose weight by eating a traditional high protein high fat diet. Studies have shown that eating a high carbohydrate diet, not a high fat one is correlated to a higher incidence of heart disease. This is because the fatty acids and triglycerides that clog arteries are composed not only of fat but also of high energy carbohydrate chains. High levels or sugar in the blood are needed in order to direct the synthesis of these clots. It is for this reason that tribes like the Maori which eat an extremely high fat high protein diet demonstrate an almost nonexistent level of heart disease and obesity. One dieting example: when two British nutritionists, Bruce Bistrian and George Blackburn told their obese patients to eat nothing but lean meat, fish, and poultry (650 to 800 calories a day) for a year healf of them lost ast least 40 pounds ... Should IT sourcing be used as a transformative agent? Not only do I reply in the affirmative, I d go so far as to say that IT sourcing, where applies, is the key to successful business transformation. We have got to ask ourselves this question first why do companies outsource? The bigger they are, the more likely they are to be geographically distributed. The more distributed they are, the more likely they are to outsource their IT requirements. The reasons are simple local vendors, like Cognizant Technology Solutions or Tata Consultancy Servicesin India, are established players, incorporate industry wide best practices, operate on a large scale (which is exactly what the client company seek to achieve), possess expertise in varied technology domains and have stellar reputations for delivering quality IT services. More importantly, they offer cost reduction and efficient technology management. However there has been a subtle but steady shift in end user preferences that renders the traditional outsourcing models redundant. Clients can no longer afford to be satisfied with just reducing their costs. To stay competitive in this increasingly dynamic environment, to retain their user base and market share, companies are now looking to their sourcing vendor partners to innovate and provide technology enabled business transformation [1]. Atkins serves to eliminate carbohydrates and focus on more protein enriched foods; this idea sells because it offers a way to lose weight fast. This idea is one of many involving the pros and cons of the Atkins plan in comparison to diets similar to it. Another reason why so many people choose the Atkins plan is because dieters are allowed to consume good tasting, fatty foods, during the induction phase of the diet. However, as tempting as these food options may be, the end result shows an increase in cholesterol that is proven to have a negative effect on the heart and body as a whole. Furthermore, another aspect of the Atkins diet is the fact that it is proven to generate weight loss, however, the drawback is that the loss is only for a short amount of time, and not easily maintained. The likelihood of losing the weight and keeping it off is something that researchers are still trying to show as a possibility (Harper, 1). But there are alternatives to the Atkins plan, the most common of which is Dr. Arthur Agatston s South Beach diet. While Atkins serves to eliminate almost all carbohydrates and replace them with foods high in fat, the South Beach diet attempts to simply teach people how to eat the good carbohydrates and fats, and eliminate the bad. Chapter 1 INTRODUCTION 1.1 PROBLEM SUMMARY AND INTRODCTION 1.1.1 Problem summary India is the seventh largest nation with an area of 3.287 million km2. Moreover, it is a relatively rich and rapidly developing country; for this reason demand for electricity is growing on significantly average at around 5% annually. In addition, one of the most fascinating aspects of solar cells is their ability to convert the most abundant and free forms of energy into electricity without moving parts or components. Also, they do not produce any adverse forms of pollution that affect the ecosystem. India s rooftop solar capacity addition grew 66 percent from last year to reach 525 mega watts. The state power grid system has supplied electricity to approximately 80% of the population living in the state capitals and industrial centres. With God s love and perfection He is able to use us, the imperfect, to carry out His will. We have all sinned and continue to ask for forgiveness when needed. Although we are not perfect, God still has a plan for our lives and it is our duty to follow out His will. In the Old Testament there are books of history, which discuss God s use of some imperfect individuals to accomplish His purpose for Israel. There are twelve books exactly that deal with the history of the nation of Israel and how God accomplished His goals. These twelve books are Joshua, Judges, Ruth, 1st and 2nd Samuel, 1st and 2nd Kings, 1st and 2nd Chronicles, Ezra, Nehemiah, and Esther. These books share a prophetic view of history describing how the obedience or disobedience of God s people is directly tied to the blessings and curses of the covenant. The first of these books is Joshua. In this book, the possession of the land by the nation is the main point. It tells us the story of Israel s arrival at Canaan, otherwise known as the Promise Land, while under the leadership of Joshua. The family has a world wide distribution in shallow, inshore tropical and subtropical waters. The highest diversity of the family members occurs in the Indo West Pacific region with about 205 species grouped into 26 genera (Farfante and Kensley, 1997; Martin and Davis, 2001; McLaughlin et al., 2005; Nizinski, 2003). The global catch of shrimp species is about 3.4 million tons/year. More than half of which are caught from the Western and Northwest Central Pacific fisheries, besides the contribution of other essential fisheries in the Indian and in the Western Atlantic Oceans (FAO, 2014). Shrimps remain to be the largest single product in value terms accounting about 15 % of the internationally traded fisheries products in 2012. Moreover, shrimps are primarily produced in developing countries, and much of this production progressively expands in the international trade. As the economic conditions develop in these countries, growing demand leads to high domestic consumption leading to fewer exports. Such high demand and the subsequent overexploitation are negatively impacting the standing stocks of shrimp which fall below the healthy standard levels. This requires regular monitoring, assessment and management of each species to keep tracking of the effects of such ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. Cell Signaling Essay Cell signaling in the central nervous system refers to the communication that occurs in cells to coordinate* cell actions, as the cells receive and respond to other cells to help with many functions in the body, from immunity to development to growth. Cell signaling begins at the axon of the cell, which is the long fiber part of a nerve cell where electrical impulses are conducted and sent from the cell body through the axon to other cells. At the axon the action potential (define short term change in the electrical potential on the surface of a cell (e.g. a nerve cell or muscle cell) in response to stimulation, and then leads to the transmission of an electrical impulse (nerve impulse) that travels across the cell membrane.) is conducted. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The voltage dependent sodium and potassium channels are closed. A stimulus would then cause the voltage dependent sodium channels in the neuron s membrane to open, causing the Na+ ions that were outside the membrane to rush into the cell. This would cause the cell to become more positive. If the signal is strong enough to cause the voltage to reach a threshold, in which the positive charge reaches somewhere between 40 and 55 mV, it causes a depolairsation as the cell s charge is a reverse due to it being more positively charged while the outside of the cell, lacking in Na+, becomes negatively charged. The depolarization triggers the sodium channels to close, and the voltage dependent potassium channels to open, causing K+ to move out of the cell to reduce the concentration gradient**. This is the repolarisation stage, as the inside of the cell becomes more negative as the K+ ions leave the cell. The neuron is then hyperpolarised when there are more K+ on the outside than Na+ in the inside of the cell, meaning the cell has a more negative charge than the outside of the cell. This causes the cell s potential to be slightly lower than its initial resting potential. This is the last stage of an action potential, after which there is a refractory (resting) period until which the cell returns to its resting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In moving from the natural being of animal existence to the cultural being of human existence, language plays the decisive role. Language gives a sense of identity to an individual as well as a social group and, in the process, creates multiple identities. The maintenance, merger, clash and change in identities based on and reflected in the language change has prompted linguists, philosophers, psychologists, sociologists, anthropologists and political scientists to study language in its multifarious dimensions. Out of 800 million illiterates in the world, India is credited to have 400 million . if in eradicating illiteracy the intention is to move from a culture of silence to a culture of thinking participation and the emphasis is on the creation of an intelligent task force for economic and industrial development, then, urgent and bold steps need to be taken in this area. Literacy in a multilingual must be based on the expressed needs of a people3. Secondly, the language of literacy has to be determined keeping in view the various contexts of language use and strategies linking the languages of literacy with that of education and administration. It would thus be quite clear that whether it is in the field of language use in education, language use in administration or in mass media, there is a constant need to weigh alternatives and plan action. The examples cited above are as true of any multilingual country as they are of India. Such examples not only establish the necessity for language planning, but also the need to analyse its process and product. Before talking about language planning, one must understand the motivation and mechanisms of planning. Planning is not merely a catalogue of resources and the organisation and mobilization of these resources to reach a certain defined goal. What this article is trying to discuss is how Under Armour is steadily moving itself into the mainstream of selling performance and/or sportswear. In this case, Under Armour uses the segmental dimension. The segmental dimension serves the market s uncovered needs. As a matter of fact, according to the Flank strategy, the purpose of marketing is to discover needs and satisfy them. This is exactly what Under Armour has done and what it continues to do. It has been the fuel that steers this ship to success. Under Armour is deliberately planning its future according to its consumer base. For example, Under Armour is has recently entered the cross training footwear market by releasing a very specific product which I will explain later in the paper. When CEO Kevin Plank was asked as to why he was pursuing the cross training category, his answer was simple: It s the same reason we went after football cleats, because our customer asked us for it. (Olson 2008) This marketing concept has not only helped Under Armour grow exponentially, but it has helped Under Armour separate itself from other sportswear giants like Nike. The internment of Japanese Americans was disgraceful and unnecessary. The National Numeracy Strategy was implemented in September 1999, setting a target for 75% of all pupils reaching at least level four in mathematics by 2002. This essay will focus on the findings since the implementation of the strategy for both pupils and teachers. In order to do this I will examine the Numeracy Strategy Framework guidelines, which state how the teaching of mathematics should be carried out in primary education and evaluate some of the main criticisms since the implementation. Since the implementation of the Numeracy Strategy, a maths lesson should occur on a daily basis in every class from reception to year six. According to the Framework of the Strategy, each... Some plenary sessions may last longer than others depending on the outcomes for e.g. more time may be needed for explanation and discussion to identify errors and misunderstandings. It is important to iron out any problems at this stage before moving onto another task. This is evident where the Framework continually stresses the importance of linking mathematics wherever possible. Summary Of Esther Hautzig s The Endless Steppe How would you feel if you and your family were suddenly taken from your home and lost all your money and then are forced to move to a place that is nothing like where you lived before? This is a sad, true story of what happened to a little nine year old girl named Esther Rudomin and her family in the book The Endless Steppeby Esther Hautzig. Esther and her family were suddenly seized by Soviet troops because they are accused of being capitalists, or enemies of the people, and are deported to the grasslands of Siberia. This book is the story of a girl and her family s determination to survive during the harsh surroundings after being exiled during World War II. In 1941, Esther lived in the town of Vilna, Poland. One June day, Esther and her family are suddenly arrested by Russian soldiers and are taken away from their home. They were taken on a six week journey to a Siberian labor camp in Russia. There they were forced to work, Esther s mother and father worked in a gypsum mine. Father drove the wagon, Esther s mother dynamited, and her grandmother shoveled gypsum. Esther weeded the potato field. Esther was also forced to make clothes for the few rich people of the village, which she would only get a payment of a bit of bread and milk. Although they had shelter, they still had to face hunger and Siberia s cold winter and summer heat. According to Mento, Cartledge and Locke (1980), Expectancy theory emphasises that the motivation to perform is dependent on the strength of the expectancy that the act will be followed by a certain outcome (reward) . According to a non directive qualitative interview of 10 minutes with each group member, I found the first relationship to be strongly positive, i.e. all of the members admitted that their effort would lead to a certain performance. The second relationship, namely the fact that my group members thought that their performance would lead to a desired outcome, was significantly weak, i.e. there was no contingency between contributing and achieving. Free Trade Blocs, A Major Step Towards Economic Integration Free Trade Blocs Free trade blocs are intergovernmental agreements that limit regional barriers to trade by integrating different economies. The four types of trade blocs are Preferential Trade Area, Free Trade Area, Customs Union, and Common Market. The specific trade blocs included in this analysis are Mercosur, North American Free Trade Agreement, European Union. Preferential Trade Area (PTA) is when countries in the same geographical region agree to eliminate or reduce tariff barriers on certain goods. Similar to PTA, the Free Trade area is when two or more countries agree to eliminate or reduce barriers to trade and freely import and export goods between each other. Creating Space Creating Space: Resolving the Problem of National Identity in English Canadian Literary History 1867 1967 Abstract: In 1967, Canada celebrated her centennial as a country unified outwardly, but inwardly divided. Within Canadian letters both French and English Canadian literary historians had spent a hundred years unsuccessfully attempting to create a unified narrative to explain the shared story of their origins. This paper will focus primarily on English Canadian literary histories, and the part they played in resolving the problem of creating the nation of Canada. I will argue that it took a full century to solve the problem , and was achieved by Northrup Frye s when he moving English Canadian literature outside the realm of socio politics and entirely into the mythopoeic sphere. However, this conclusion , relied on a modernist understanding of the role of meta narratives in the shared story of nationhood, without which assumption, such a conclusion risks becoming little more than a rhetorical contortion. I will conclude by suggesting that it was only when Canadian letters moved beyond centralized meta narratives, and started to embrace (in Robert Kroetsch s words) Disunity in Unity that a true Canadian literature and a more balanced literary history could begin emerge. When Montreal hosted the World Exposition of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Quebec is the metaphorical Orient to Ontario s Occident. Shinto Research Paper For week 7 I decided that I would do my assignment on Shinto, since taking this class and reading about Shinto it started to interest me, especially now that I can look back and think about what I saw when I was in Japan and wondered what the religion was that they were practicing. Shinto s meaning is way of the gods , this is one of the oldest religions in Japan, which began during the period of the Yayoi culture (c. 300 BCE 300 CE). The faith has neither a founder or prophets and there is no major text which outlines its principal beliefs. Amaterasu then went to her grandson Honinigi, these were the jewels and mirror the gods used to persuade Amaterasu out of her cave and the sword that was given to her by Susanoo, known later as Kusanagi. These three objects would become part of the imperial regalia of Japan. Another symbol carried by Honinigi was the magnificent magatama jewel which had special fertility powers. The most powerful god was Okuninushi, Honinigi landed on Mt. Takachio in Kyushu and made a deal with Okuninushi. For his loyalty to Amaterasu, Okuninushi would have the important role of protector of the future royal family. Later, the god would be regarded as the protector of all Japan. Traumatic Brain Injury Cortical Recording Platform and Monitoring Systems: principles, applications and new directions Nirjhar Bhattacharjee The cerebral cortex is the outer portion of the brain that covers the cerebrum and the cerebellum (1.5 mm to 5 mm thick). It is the layer of the brain known as the gray matter. This portion of the brain is further divided into four lobes for classification, frontal, parietal, temporal and occipital. Our most complex mental activities like speech, memory, problem solving, planning, awareness, and the execution of complex responses in the world are controlled by the cerebral cortex. Hence monitoring the cerebral cortex for various disorders becomes extremely important for proper diagnosis and care. For the purpose of developing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Regulation of glutamate signaling is necessary for proper neuronal excitation in the central nervous system. Without proper regulation, increases in extracellular glutamate can contribute to pathophysiology and neurological dysfunction seen in TBI. Glutamic acid (abbreviated as Glu or E) is one of the 20 22 proteinogenic amino acids, and its codons are GAA and GAG [9]. It is a non essential amino acid i.e. they are produced in the body. The carboxylate anions and salts of glutamic acid are known as glutamates. Glutamate is the principal excitatory neurotransmitter in the brain [10]. In the experimental studies conducted (Hinzman et al) [8], enzyme based microelectrode arrays (MEAs) were used to selectively measure extracellular tonic glutamate and potassium chloride (KCl) evoked glutamate released in the prefrontal cortex, dentate gyrus, and stratium of adult male rats two days after mild or moderate midline fluid percussion brain ... • 51. Evelyn Nesbit s Ragtime While there are many important messages in the play Ragtime, I believe the most important one is the message about how women were treated unequally when compared to men and how this is still a relevant theme in the world today. While there are major differences to how the female culture was in the 1900s when compared to now, there are still unjust similarities. Throughout the story there are femalecharacters who represent the growth that women at that time were making however, this growth is slow and I believe it is not yet finished even today. Even though it may seem as though Evelyn Nesbit played an insignificant role in this play, she represented much of the unequal treatment women. She represented a type of woman that was in existence simply to entertain men, known everywhere as The girl on the velvet swing (Athrens 0). By the end of the play, Evelyn was motivated by money and material which, in the end, was her downfall. Her character represents the end of the era of women being considered objects, just as the feminist movement was beginning. However, we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Ahrens 39) and Where are your instructions, my dear? (Ahrens 39), we realize she knows nothing of decision making. As the play goes on Mother keeps learning and eventually finds herself doing everything father used to do. She is no longer the exemplary symbol of what a wife with children should be. • 52. Comparing The Holocaust And Armenian Genocide According to Google, a genocide is the deliberate killing of a large group of people, especially those of a particular ethnic group or nation. The Holocaust and Armenian Genocide are both considered genocides. Both of these genocides compare in many ways. They both had a belief that a race was superior to another race and they were both starved. They are also different in many ways. They were killed in different ways, and the roles of women were different. The Armenian Genocidewas planned ahead of time by the leader Talat Pasha from the Ottoman Empire. It started in the Turkish parliament when they started to arrest Armenian diplomats, writers, journalists, and lawmakers, and then killing them. They were all told they were going to be in an army. The Armenian were raped, tortured, and killed. This genocide ended in 1923. This is when modern Turkey was established. Pasha ran away to Germany and was convicted of genocide in absentia. The Holocaust started with Adolf Hitler as the Nazi Leader. He believed Germans were superior to Jews. He gathered up all the Jews and put them in concentration camps and tortured to to literal death. They were barely fed and their bodies were pushed to the absolute limit. One way that the Holocaust and Armenian Genocide compare is that in both there was a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of them is the way that they were killed. • 53. Research Paper On The Milkmaid The milkmaid is an oil on canvas of 45.5 x 41 cm by the famous Dutch painter Johannes Vermeer. The maid is standing in a plain scullery type room carefully pouring milk into an earthenware container sitting on a small table next to a still life arrangement of stale bread pieces and a full bread basket. From the way that the maid dresses up, I think The Milkmaid prescribes a woman in the middle class. The artist uses almost all implied lines. Taking the faceof the milkmaid as a starting point, it is important to focus on the light coming from the window and reflecting directly upon her face in shadows and pale scales therefore, creating an effect of three dimensionality. It makes the viewers focus what the maid is doing: pouring milk. Then we will see a line between the milk vessel and the bread. I also see a line from the bread basket in the left foreground to the maid s head. These lines intersect at the maid s wrist, which lead us to the action that she is doing. Other lines in the work are the window and framework, the edge of the table, the outline of the woman s clothes, and the bottom of the wall. These implied lines are less important than the line from the maid eyes. If you take a closer look, you will see a parallel line between the slant of the basket to her diagonal slant of her arm and head.
