Suzanne Ginsburg discusses options for developing smartphone apps across different platforms. She outlines three main approaches: 1) developing for a single "native" platform as a "One Trick Pony"; 2) developing for two to three flagship platforms using the "O.K. Corral" approach; and 3) using hybrid app development tools to create "Trojan Horse" apps that are web-based but have native capabilities. She provides examples and considerations for each approach, addressing issues like hardware access needs, monetization strategies, and balancing customization with cross-platform development.
Upfront User Research for iPhone/iPad Apps: Why bother?Ginsburg Design
While diving right into design may work in some cases, most apps can benefit from some level of upfront user research. User research helps define the high-level product vision, and enables your team to make informed decisions throughout the product life cycle.
These slides were presented at Voices That Matter and the iPhone/iPad Summit in 2010. They discuss 6 simple ways to improve the user experience of your iPhone or iPad apps.
In the software world—desktop, web, mobile, tablet—discoverability typically refers to the ease at which users may find a feature to complete a specific task they have in mind. But it may also refer to the ability to simply get started with a new application, or the ability to discover features unknown to the user, e.g., those that may improve performance. These slides provide 7 clear ways to improve discoverability in your application designs.

Size isn’t everything: Why the iPad isn’t just bigger; it’s a whole new UX, a...Liquid Reality
Exploring how the iPad shifts the mobile user experience paradigm, what this means to the iPhone, and how mobile applications can and will have to shift with it in order to become or remain successful.
Although they share an OS, the interactions offered by the iPad and it’s smaller siblings are very different. We will explore what these differences are, how they effect interaction, and why they demand distinct solutions that embrace and exploit the unique challenges, variations and opportunities between the two in order to deliver enjoyable, satisfying and successful user experiences.
In this talk I shared the experience of the FigureRunning team in developing Apps for the Android platform, starting from Apps that were designed and developed for iOS.
Tour of Mobile usability testing apps and servicesvijayhanumolu
Ok, you have been asked to go off and research how to design/architect a mobile user experience. After the initial excitement and learning all about mobile UX, you decide to jump head-on and start designing.
Then comes the realization, how are you going to test the designs in context of a mobile device? Do you have to package everything in an app or is there a way to test preliminary designs? What tools are available? Which works for what Mobile OS? When to use a particular tool? Can, we, designers use it without developer help?
In this presentation I have various testing app/methods/tools/services available specifically for Mobile, for which OS, when to best use them during design process, cost associated with some of the tools, and what are pros & cons of each of them.

Pick Your Poison – Mobile Web, Native or Hybrid?Effective
Presented at Denver Startup Week - October 2012
As developers, one of the largest challenges is deciding what kind of mobile application to build: mobile web, hybrid, or native mobile. This is a thorny question because there isn’t a black-and-white answer. The solution can sit anywhere from pure mobile web to pure native mobile, or somewhere in between. In this session, Shane Church, technical lead at EffectiveUI, uncovers how the answer is tied to deep consideration of architecture decisions, the needs of the user, and the business goals for both the short and long term. He goes step-by-step through the questions and project considerations they should address when preparing to embark on a mobile development project. You'll learn that your responses to these questions will drive a clear path to the right decision that keeps end-users and organizational goals in line.

Book Formatting: Quality Control Checks for DesignersConfidence Ago
This presentation was made to help designers who work in publishing houses or format books for printing ensure quality.
Quality control is vital to every industry. This is why every department in a company need create a method they use in ensuring quality. This, perhaps, will not only improve the quality of products and bring errors to the barest minimum, but take it to a near perfect finish.
It is beyond a moot point that a good book will somewhat be judged by its cover, but the content of the book remains king. No matter how beautiful the cover, if the quality of writing or presentation is off, that will be a reason for readers not to come back to the book or recommend it.
So, this presentation points designers to some important things that may be missed by an editor that they could eventually discover and call the attention of the editor.
