This workshop introduces 6 to 11 year olds to the basic process of domestic vermicomposting. The 90 minute workshop covers what vermicomposting is, observing tiger worms, assembling a worm bin, and placing food scraps in the bin for the worms. The workshop costs €120 plus VAT and includes all necessary materials.

1. WORKSHOP ABOUT DOMESTIC VERMICOMPOSTING (6 TO 11 YEARS AGE – 90 m)
This Workshop will introduce to the class the basic processes of the domestic
vermciomposting.
MATERIAL (FUTURAMB responsability):
 Domestic worm bin;
 Survival substrate with 200 adult tygerworms;
 Latex gloves;
 Newspaper;
 Sprinkler;
 Organic waste domestic chopper;
 Crushed food sraps.
1. WHAT IS VERMICOMPOSTING? (total: 20 minutes)
 “What is waste?” (5 minutes)
Group conversation.
 “What problems has the waste on the environment?” (5 minutes)
Group conversation.
 “What is organic waste?” (5 minutes)
Group conversation.
 “What are worms and is importance for the environment? (5 minutes)
Group conversation.
2. TYGERWORMS CONTACT (25 m)
 What is the worm aspect? (10 minutes)
With a glove, observe with atention a adult tygerworm.
 What is the worm behavior? (10 minutes)
Placing an adult worm in the surface of a box divided into a covered section and
a discovery section, watch their movements.

2.  What worms produce? (5 minutes)
By feeding the waste, worms produce an excellent fertilizer for application on
plants and garden soil.
3. WORM BIN ASSEMBLY (20 minutes)
 Domestic worm bin assembly (10 minutes)
Creating a place for the worm survival and waste treatment.
 Placing worms on the worm bin (10 minutes)
Placing survival substrate plus tygerworms on the worm bin.
4. PLACING THE FOOD SCRAPS ON THE WORM BIN (25 minutes)
 Food scraps transformation (10 minutes)
Food scraps transformation on litle particles by a domestic chopper.
 Placing the food scraps on the worm bin (5 minutes)
Food on the worms.
 Worm bin care (10 minutes)
Water placement (when necessary), waste cover and place the worm bin on a
cool dry place.
WORKSHOP COST: € 120,00 plus VAT (include class material)
Prices are related to the Algarve municipalities. For the remaining country
municipalities, are added € 20,00 per 100 km traveled by FUTURAMB.
