Chronology of Employee Performance Management in the...
Overview
Performance management is the systematic process by which an agency involves its employees, as
individuals and members of a group, in improving organizational effectiveness in the
accomplishment of agency mission and goals. | Employee performance management includes: *
planning work and setting expectations, * continually monitoring performance, * developing the
capacity to perform, * periodically rating performance in asummary fashion, and * rewarding good
performance.|
The revisions made in 1995 to the Governmentwide performance appraisal and awards regulations
support sound management principles. Great care was taken to ensure that the requirements those
regulations establish would complement and not conflict ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Organizations need to know who their best performers are.Within the context of formal
performance appraisal requirements, rating means evaluating employee or group performance
against the elements and standards in an employee s performance plan and assigning a summary
rating of record. The rating of record is assigned according to procedures included in the
organization s appraisal program. It is based on work performed during an entire appraisal
period. The rating of record has a bearing on various other personnel actions, such as granting
within grade pay increases and determining additional retention service credit in a reduction in
force.Note: Although group performance may have an impact on an employee s summary rating,
a rating of record is assigned only to an individual, not to a group.| | | | In an effective
organization, rewards are used well. Rewarding means recognizing employees, individually and as
members of groups, for their performance and acknowledging their contributions to the agency s
mission. A basic principle of effective management is that all behavior is controlled by its
consequences. Those consequences can and should be both formal and informal and both positive
and negative.Good performance is recognized without waiting for nominations for formal awards
to be solicited. Recognition is an ongoing, natural part of day to day experience. A lot of the actions

Johnson And Johnson Baby Powder Lawsuit
Johnson and Johnson Baby Powder Lawsuit: What You Should Know
Recently, almost 4,800 individual lawsuits have been filed against Johnson Johnson claiming
that the company failed to warm women that if they used the powder on or near the pelvic area,
they were at a higher risk of developing ovarian cancer. Recently, one woman received an award
of $417 million after she was able to show that she used Johnson and Johnson baby powder and
developed ovarian cancer soon thereafter. According to the New York Times, Eva Echeverria, 63,
of East Los Angeles is one of thousands of women who have sued the consumer products giant
Johnson Johnson claiming baby powder caused their disease, pointing to studies linking talc to
cancer that date to 1971, when scientists in Wales discovered particles of talc embedded in
ovarian and cervical tumors. Echeverria alleged Johnson Johnson failed to adequately warn
consumers about talcum powder s potential cancer risks. She used the company s baby powder
on a daily basis beginning in the 1950s until 2016 and was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in
2007. So what exactly should you know about this risk, and what can you do if you feel as though
you or someone you know may have been affected? This article will help you make the right
decisions moving forward.
How serious is the risk, and what are the causes?
Many women use talcum powder, which is what Johnson and Johnson baby powder contains.

пЃіLike all other self tests, the answers which are given depends on the mood and perceptions of
the individual at that very moment. However once that mood passes there is a chance that people
will have different answers to the same question. This variable is very difficult to overcome. This
can be minimised by focusing on previous actions of the individual rather than their current feeling
which is known to fluctuate. пЃіOur current selves may not react the same to a specific scenario

What Was Hitler s Rule In Germany
Germany was suffering under the harsh conditions of the treaty of Versailles, the economic
downturn as a result of the Great Depression and the weakness of the Weimar republic all allowed
for Adolf Hitler and the Nazi party to gain control of Germany. The Treaty of Versailles made the
government of Germanylook weak because other countries took land away from Germany. The
Germans were paying money to other countries because of all the damage they had done in World
War 1. They also had to take the blame for starting World War I
and they could only have an army
of 100,000 men. Germany suffered a lot in the Great Depression which spiralled Germany in
despair. Hitler promised the people that he would bring life back to Germany which meant more
money into Germany, more land and he will bring back Germany s pride. However there were
negative aspects to Hitler s rule.
The Nazi party developed a totalitarian rule in Germany; this was enabled through the Nazi
parties control of almost every aspect of life. A totalitarian state is a political system where the

what being a part of imperialism really means; For example, in both stories George Orwells

The central issue in studying the offspring of holocaust survivors has always been the eventual
emergence of various psychopathological symptoms in those offspring as a direct or an indirect of
parental traumatization and ensuing their psychological and psychopathological outcomes (Last
72). All Holocaust survivors have always had some trauma. The offspring of Holocaust survivors
have also had psychological and psychopathological outcomes that they will suffer from for the
rest of their lives. It has been assumed that survivors of such a large scale man made disasters as
the holocaust cannot but bear within them permanent scars signifying and representing their
dreadful experiences (Last 73). This shows that that survivors and their offspring will have the
trauma forever. The events that took place so many years ago will scar even the next generation

them. This could affect someone s job, their education, and their social life. The post trauma will

have been condemned into seemingly endless rat race situations as they struggle for survival. This
rat race brings to mind childhood dreams, which we apparently outgrow as maturity sets in.You

Some of them like retirement, therefore no more need to work, are terminal. Other solutions
include moving from a high pressure job to less intense roles, either at a different company or
within the same company, but probably in an alternative location or department.Another
alternative could be changing to a different job, which does not involve working long hours, or
commuting long distances. No matter the change however, it may only offer a temporary reprieve
especially for anyone in the wrong career or occupation. Therefore, it is best to recognize the
cause and effect of this rat race phenomenon at an early stage in life. Better still, there is need to
guard against venturing into this phenomenon, as much as is practically possible. This is the only
way that we can all enjoy long and economically rewarding lives and careers. Perhaps some

Analysis Of Maya Plisetskaya
The main purpose of this film is to tell the story of Russian ballerina Maya Plisetskaya. In other
words, the goal is to show her life during the period of time from the start of her dancing career in
1934 until her death in 2015. One of the biggest history aspects of the film will centralize on
how WWII and post war USSR have affected her career, individuality and personal life. Also, the
film will contain parts where people, who knew or worked with Maya Plisetskaya, will share
memories and their points of view on some of the events, shown in the film. Some of the people
are balletdancer and actor Mikhail Baryshnikov, Bolshoi Theatre director Vladimir Urin and
Plisetskaya s niece and ballet dancer Anna Plisetskaya.

happened. A designer Pierre Cardin was a part of the audience that day, and at the end of the

dance costumes and evening wear for Plisetskaya. Maya Plisetskaya had taken the world. She

and the inverse regioisomeric 1 acyl 3 alkylindoles can be prepared directly from a common set
of precursor materials and using similar synthetic strategies. The EI mass spectra for these
isomers show a number of unique ions which allow for the differentiation of the 1 alkyl 3
acylindole compounds from the inverse regioisomeric 1 acyl 3 alkylindoles. The base peak at m
/z 214 in the 1 n pentyl 3 benzoylindole represents the M 77 cation fragment resulting from the
loss of the phenyl group and this ion is not observed in the inverse isomer. The 1 benzoyl 3 n
pentylindole inverse regioisomer shows a base peak at m/z 105 for the benzoyl cation. Thus,
these two base peaks are the result of fragmentation initiated at the carbonyl oxygen for both
isomers. The 1 pentyl 3 benzoylindole is characterized by the strong intensity carbonyl band at
1703 cm 1 while the amide carbonyl appears as a strong band of equal intensity at 1681 cm 1 in the

Cognitive Science and the law
Reaction paper to Cognitive science and the law
If someone has seen a crime taken place, and they are either the victim, or a witness; then that
person would be under pressure by authorities to remember what has taken place in order for a
case to be resolved. This article was interesting to me in that I did not know all that took place
when doing an investigation when the police are trying to identify a criminal involving a crime
that had just been committed. This article reminds me of what we have been reading in the book

Then when it is time to recall what had happened; their memory could be blocked because they
only remember certain things, and certain people. I think that peoples memory can fade with time
making them lose detail and accuracy of what really when on, and a person could mix up facts,
and ideas of what had happened because they were either scared for their own lives, and did not
really focus on the situation at hand, or they blanked out, and only saw certain scenes.
When reading about the latent fingerprint evidence I did not know that a person s fingerprints could
be mixed up with someone else s; thus causing them to be accused of a crime that they did not
commit. This latent fingerprint description surprised me on how the police officials perform taking
fingerprints on crime scenes, and in the different forms that they can take them. What makes me
wonder is that how can two different people s fingerprints become concluded as the same person by
running it through a machine that s supposed to know one person from another. As with the case of
the two men in Madrid who was mixed up because of faulty latent prints that were taken, and run

El racismo aun prevalece en nuestra sociedad
Perfil Racial
Es evidente que en nuestra sociedad el racismo aГєn prevalece. Lo vemos todo el tiempo en las

Causes And Effects Of Multiple Personality Disorders
There are many cases that can be found in psychological records for multiple personality disorders
also, known as dissociative identity disorder. Dissociative Identity, formerly known as multiple
personality disorder, is a condition in which an individual has a host personality along with at least
two or more personalities with each identity having his or her own ideas, memories, thoughts and

thoughts and behaviors that are unhealthy and inflexible. A person with a personality disorderhas
trouble perceiving and relating to situations and people (Mayo Clinic). This causes significant
problems and limitations in relationships, social activities, work and school (Mayo Clinic). In
some cases, you may not realize that you have a personality disorder because your way of
thinking and behaving seems natural to you, but in all honesty, it s not. You also might blame
others for the challenges you face (Mayo Clinic). Personality disorders usually begin in the
teenage years or early adulthood (Mayo Clinic). There are many types of personality disorders.
Some types may become less obvious throughout middle age (Mayo Clinic). The most common
types of personality disorders are divided into three clusters. Many people with one personality

Despite all the atrocities and problems that bedevil the world, what has always horrified me is the
hunger that exists amidst the world of so much plenty. Indeed, hunger exists even in the First World
countries, including the most advanced nation, the United States of America. It is inconceivable
how even the poorest nations allocate big portions of their budgets to military hardware and not
food production. Hunger is a moral and humanitarian crisis, exacerbated by unjust policies and
practices, market distortions caused by excessive financial speculation by the deviation of food

The problem is more common on the streets where the homeless depend on the increasingly

chronic are some of the most impoverished in the world. A good example is Honduras. The
Republic of Honduras is the second poorest country in Central America, with persistent poverty
and inequality challenges and a per capita income of about US$1,880 in 2010 (Rural Poverty
Portal). 62.8% of Hondurans live in poverty (World Bank, 2013).This puts Honduras in the
league of the least developed nations on earth. With a population of only eight million people, it
is surprising how the state has failed to channel funds to agricultural activities in order to feed
its small population comfortably. 62.8% of Hondurans live in poverty, and 6 out of 10 of
households are subject to extreme poverty of incomes of less than $1.25 per day (World Bank,
2013). This situation is replicated in almost every country that is at the bottom of economic food
chain. Still, the Honduras hunger story reads like a horror movie as it is affecting almost every
child born and brought up in the country. With one in every four children suffering from chronic
malnutrition, one doesn t have to look far in Honduras to find a child in desperate need of food
(World Food Programme). Obviously, this is a chilling statistics. And with shortage

Ambiguity In Dubious Battle
Ambiguity is defined as the quality of being open to more than one interpretation. In fiction, it
leads readers to consider various conclusions and provokes them to go beyond the text itself. In
Dubious Battle exemplifies this. John Steinbeck ensures that every character, every conflict, and
every theme incorporates some form of ambiguity. Not only does this provoke the reader to think
beyond the socio economic problems directly expressed within the text, but it also sparks questions
regarding the main purpose of writing the novel. Steinbeck achieves this by giving insight regarding
the ambiguous nature of the characters themselves. For example, it is never clear who the

Doc perfectly characterizes this by suggesting that Mac is an actor (66). Mac, quickly rebuts by
stating that his speech has a kind of feel to it, to imply he does not try to do it (66). Nonetheless,
by implementing Mac within certain important scenes of the stories, Steinbeck always gives the
impression that Mac is the master orchestrator at every turn, and further showing that he would
sacrifice anyone to reach his ambitions. As a result, his ambiguous nature is essential to follow in
order to foreshadow any new development that occurs throughout the plot line. Any individual
would follow Mac s lead because of how he framed himself to be an altruistic person. Moreover, his
ability to dictate both London and Dakin throughout the story demonstrates his ability to lead
behind the scenes. All of these examples suggest how Mac is the protagonist within the story and he
was the central character to analyze and understand. This was the thought process that carries
through until the shift of balance in power between Mac and Jim. Mac s body and muscles
shuddered, after he had beaten the kid to send a message regarding tampering with the strike
(214). He invokes violence once again in order to rile up the workers, but this time, it struck
something inside of him, leaving his face pale and grey (214). He and London were both taken by

The Success Of Implementation Of The Final Solution
Category III 7. Similarities, Differences, by Country. Why Success? Introduction In this essay I will
evaluate the success of implementation of the Final solution in four nations. These four nations are
the Netherlands, France, Yugoslavia and Italy. There will be a description of the treatment of Jews
as well as the kill rate in that country. Besides, there will be an analysis, why the countries
cooperated and why some nations were more successful in implementing the final solution. Lastly, I
will compare and contrast all the data of the nations in the conclusion. The Netherlands The
installation of pro German government in the Netherlands starkly contributed to the high Jewish
death toll. When the Netherlands was being invaded by the Germans the Dutch Cabinet and the
Queen fled to England. Therefore, after the occupation, the Germans could install in contrast to
other occupied countries a Pro German Civilian Government, led by the Austrian Arthur Seyss

easily implement new anti Jewish policies. One of his first policies was to establish a Jewish
Council with the purpose to control the Jews and unnoticeably strip them away of their rights. Also
with the help of the civil servants, Seyss Inquart could initiate a registration system to make the
Jews more easily identifiable by inserting a J on their card. This registration simplified and

Climate Control And The Greenhouse Effect
The way a greenhouse works is that sunlight shines in and warms up the plants, and some of that
radiation can t exit through the glass forcing the heat to stay in the greenhouse. The UV radiation
comes through the glass walls and warms the plants while weaker IR radiation has trouble getting

Greenhouse Effect? ). Similarly, the Earth has incoming heat that is then trapped, warming up the
surface. It works the same way a greenhouse does hence the name the Greenhouse Effect
(Lallanila, What is the Greenhouse Effect? ). There are a few greenhouse gases that are
responsible for the Greenhouse Effect. Making up 1% of our atmosphere, Carbon Dioxide, Ozone,
Methane, and Water Vapor, act as a blanket that surrounds Earth to help regulate climate control

t bad. It actually helps us survive on Earth. Without it, the Earth would be 30 degrees Celsius
lesser which would be too cold (Rinkesh. Causes of the Greenhouse Effect Conserve Energy

along the atmosphere, and a small amount of it finds its way into the Earth s surface (Rinkesh.

is raised (Rinkesh. Causes of the Greenhouse Effect

Ship Breaker Dystopian
Dystopian literature is a genre of fictional writing that portrays the world in a worst case
scenario using three elements. These three elements are dystopian society, dystopian controls
and the dystopian protagonist. Paolo Bacigalupi uses these three elements to create a very
realistic dystopian novel that is not too far away from becoming a reality. With all of this said, It
is obvious that Ship Breaker is a completely dystopian novel. Not only is it a dystopian novel, but
it also gives a view into what the real world might look like in the near future. The bureaucratic
control in Ship Breaker is very evident when Bacigalupi begins to talk about the swanks. The

McBride s View of Market Research
Market research is defined as the gathering of information about a market s size and trends
(QuickMBA, 2010). For McBride, the point of conducting market research is to identify good
markets to pursue that the bank is not already pursuing. This research should also help McBride to
determine how these markets compare to the market it already has. The company may find through
the course of this research that its current target market is the best one to target going forward, a
strategy that implies further penetration of the existing market as opposed to opening up new
markets.
McBride should therefore conduct market research using the available demographic information
from the US Census Bureau, and information from its own customer bases. Ideally, the company
would be able to formulate customer profiles of competitors, but this information may be difficult
to obtain. McBride should aim to create a demographic and psychographic profile of its current
customer base, and the same for other potential customer bases. Differences between McBride s
existing customers and the general population of the area in which McBride operates can highlight
some potential markets, in terms of demographics, income levels, education, banking behavior and
other key variables. The more variables that McBride studies the better, bearing in mind the cost of
acquiring additional information.
The choice of media used in the implementation of McBride s marketing plan should be guided by
the results of

Psychological Factors of Addiction Essay
The basis for addiction can be assigned to a combination of social, physiological and psychological
aspects. Social factors highlight the fundamental tendency for humans to interact and form social
groups which contributes to the commencement of addiction. The intricacy of the human brain has
slowed the understanding of physiological and psychological factors, however experts agree the
neurotransmitter dopamineis instrumental to explaining the cause of addictionand ascertaining
successful pathways to assist addicted individuals. Analysing addiction within the domain of
methamphetamine use provides an insight to the causes and potential treatment strategies for these
individuals. There is no single treatment for methamphetamine addiction,... Show more content on

Ultimately, these factors contribute to the development of methamphetamine abuse but also
provide tangible strategies to counteract addiction. Boshears et al. (2011) suggest methamphetamine
users separate from existing social networks that encourage consumption and discover new
networks that support cessation of drug use. However, many methamphetamine addicts would be
forced to disassociate from immediate family or be required to terminate employment which create
limitations due to the impracticality of these changes. Evidently, social determinants contribute to
methamphetamine addiction, however successful treatment can only occur in conjunction with the
attenuation of significant physiological and psychological factors.
The complexity of the human brain creates mystery when determining the influence of
neurophysiological factors and their role in the process of addiction. There is a proposed
relationship between drug addiction and the mesolimbic dopamine system, with the mesolimbic
pathway from the ventral tegmental area to the nucleus accumbens considered the reward centre of
the human brain (Alcohol Rehab, 2011). A release of dopamine is necessary for reward which is
hypothesised to initiate the addiction cycle by providing positive reinforcement for drug self
administration (Feltenstein See, 2009). Methamphetamine triggers the release of dopamine from
synaptic vesicles which flood the synaptic cleft activating feelings of euphoria, well being

The Great Gatsby And Cugat s Cover Art
Art and Literature connect in a multitude of ways, including style, message, and creative vision.
Yet, it is not often that these two converge in a way that heightens the messages of both. F. Scott
Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby and Cugat s cover art exhibit the synthesis of these two expressions.
By writing the cover into the story, Fitzgerald blurs the line that separates these two pieces of art
and merges their message of change to culture and the true nature of that culture. With the artistic
aspects of blue shade, bright imagery, and raw emotion, Fitzgerald provides the inspiration for
Cugat to paint the realistic picture of the 1920 s, while Fitzgerald constructs the world of the West
and East Egg, New York. The bright and colorful... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This means that bright lights, clothing, and their symbolism are used in accordance with race and a
person s color. Race is important in this story because the racism displayed by many characters in
the story, most notably Tom, actually exhibits the evil sensibilities of the West and East Egg
residents. This racial bias displays the American sensibilities of the time because of the racial
tension during the 1920 s. Yet, this oppression because of color opposes the bright colors of
prosperity. Sarah Churchwell states that the story, spoke of the American Dream, they meant the
American hope, the American aspiration, the American ideal. When people wrote of the American
Dream after 1930, they meant the American mirage, the American illusion... the American lie ( The
Great Gatsby Delusion 16). Also, she states that this portrayal of high class symbolizes the
attainment of the American dream and the desire to keep it, [i]f America is a land of fables, then
the American dream is supposed to be one of our favourites. Although most would call it a
consolatory idea, the phrase American dream was in fact created to describe not America s
success stories, but its failures: it was intended as a corrective to acquisitiveness, not a name for it.
(16). To expand on the idea of the American dream being built on failures and illusions, Churchwell
doesn t seem to describe what inspired that desire. In the story, Daisy personifies what the American

Macbeth Quotes From Banquo
Character: Banquo
Partner: Macbeth
Quotation #1: All s well./ I dreamt last night of the three WeГЇrd Sisters./ To you they have showed
some truth (Mac. 2.1.24 26).
Translation: All is fine. Tonight I dreamed of the WeГ
Їrd Sisters. They have showed some truth in
what they foretold about you.
Fighting for: Banquo is fighting to calm Macbeth. Banquo does not know why Macbeth is awake,
but as his friend he wants to ensure that Macbeth is fine, able to relax and return to sleep. Banquo
is also explaining why he is awake. Banquo strives to convey his worries over the WeГЇrd Sisters
and their encounter with them.
Circumstances: Banquo is awake because his thoughts are troubled over his encounter with the
WeГЇrd Sisters. The WeГЇrd Sisters foretell that Banquo s children will become kings. In order for
this to occur, one of Banquo s sons would have to commit a regicide. This thought is so terrifying
that it is preventing Banquo from sleeping. Meanwhile, Macbeth is about to commit a regicide and
pauses on his journey to converse with Banquo.
Poetic Device:
The second line scans in iambic pentameter, whereas the third line does not scan. There is
assonance on the long e sound of three, and WeГЇrd. There is alliteration on the w of well, and
WeГЇrd. There is consonance on the d sound of dreamt, WeГЇrd, and showed, on the r sound of
three, WeГЇrd, Sisters, and truth, and on the t sound of dreamt, last, night, Sisters, to, and truth.
Conclusion: Night is used to explain when Banquo thinkings about the WeГЇrd Sisters. The words
imply that they are in the back of his mind constantly and present enough for him to dream about
them. The night is when Banquo subconsciously ponders their mysteries. Night also signifies that
this though happened recently and the time was important.

Rhetorical Analysis On Rocky Balboa
Rocky Balboa
Each person has the right to follow their dreams. Sometimes those dreams are fulfilled, but
sometimes they are put on hold when life demands individuals to pursue something more practical.
If an individual is willing to fight for what they want, anything is possible. As shown in Rocky
Balboa, Rocky Balboa s desire is to continue boxing in the ring. The Commission Chair denies
his request, due to his age, although he has passed all of the required tests. Rocky Balboa
challenges his denial by appealing to the Commission Chair s logic, ethics, and emotion. During
this session, Rocky effectively uses logos, ethos, and pathos to lead the Commission Chair to a
decision allowing him to obtain his license to box again. This speech is effective in its portrayal
that as long as one has done everything in their power to achieve their goals, that no one should
have the power to stop them.
Using logos in his speech, Balboa appeals to the logic of the Commission Chair by referring to the
pursuit of happiness. When the Commission chair responds that they are looking out for Balboa s
interests, (Eidenmuller) his rebuttal is that he has done everything in his power to obtain his
license, yet he is still told No (Eidenmuller). This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Proper Timing And Placement Of Fertilizer
Proper timing and placement of fertilizer, development of more efficient crop varieties, and proper
irrigation are among some of the other solutions to improve the efficiency of nitrogen uptake
(Robertson Vitousek, 2009). Considering the widespread use of fertilizers and huge area of arable
land in use, one particularly promising solution seems to be the use of fertilizers coated with
nitrification inhibitors. A study measuring the effect of dicyandiamide (DCD), which limits the
conversion of NH4+ to NO3 , on a grazed pasture demonstrated a 68 percent reduction in nitrate
leaching as a result of its application (Di Cameron, 2005). In addition to nitrogen releases,
agricultural activities contribute significant amounts of carbon dioxideand methane to the
environment, both of which are GHGs. Within this sector, methane enters the atmosphere mainly
through enteric fermentation by ruminants, manure, and rice paddies. Without taking into account
emissions from fossil fuel use, agricultureis responsible for about one third of global net carbon
dioxide emissions as a result of deforestation, burning of biomass, and draining of wetlands
(Johnson, Franzluebbers, Weyers, Reicosky, 2007). Carbon dioxide emissions associated with fossil
fuels on the farm are mostly due to diesel combustion from machinery used for planting, tilling, and
fertilizer and pesticide application. Production and transportation of agricultural inputs should also
be considered to account for

In an Essay Explain What Insights Are Offered Through an...
Identity is about perception, the way someone sees themselves and their surroundings, the set of
rules that they follow, their morals, the decisions they make, the way they look and the way they
think. This is shaped by their location and experiences, as well as by other humans. Identity is
represented in many ways through poetry, music, books, paintings and other mediums. Bruce
Dawe represents the identity of two very different types of people in his poems Homo
Suburbiensis and Drifters where he represents the identity of his subjects through more of a
specific description of a certain set of people and not any person in particular in an informative

Similarly, Dawe s poem Homo Suburbiensis is aimed to present a suburban man as a species of
human, rather than an individual. This is done through the latinised title, sounding like a
scientific name for an animal, rather than a human being. The informative tone is also present in
this poem as it is in the previous poem. As we look through a proverbial magnifying glass into
the life of the man, the poem examines even the smallest of details during those few seconds the
man spends in his garden as we observe him. We learn that he is in a vegetable patch and the line
all the things he takes down with him there suggests more than garden tools, but also his
thoughts, specifically his problems and worries, which may be depicted as a weight one may be
carrying. This suggests to us that his vegetable patch is a sanctuary, his own personal private
place of relaxation where he can sink into his own mind and think things over. The second stanza
uses sensory imagery to let the reader put himself in the place of the man in the garden, no longer
simply observing him, which helps the reader develop a more accurate picture of exactly the state
of mind the man may be in during his time in his garden. The clatter of a dish in a sink that could
be his suggests that he is married, which could imply children, making his garden all the more an
escape,

genres of music readily available on the internet. He makes a point that people back then were
lucky to hear their favorite symphony at least five times in their lives. This fact made me realize
how unappreciative we have become of music. We should be taking advantage of the opportunity

Lion King Character Analysis
What s In A Character? The Lion King is best known for its ironic characters. From Simba to
Zazu, everyone has a favourite. Let s take a look at the characters in the order that they appear in
the film. Zazu As the king s majordomo it is his job to see to everything in the name of the king.
Seen as bossy and highly organised, Zazu is an early babysitter to Simba and Nala at the
beginning of the film. Sarabi tells Simba and Nala, they can go to the watering hole as long as
Zazu goes with them. Best Quote: Didn t your mother ever tell you not to play with your food?
Mufasa The king of the Pridelands until his death, Mufasa was no nonsense but loved his son.
He was always at odds with his younger brother, Scar. Until his death, Mufasa tried to teach
Simba, what he would need to know when he became king. Best Quote: You have forgotten who
you are and so have forgotten me. Look inside yourself, Simba. You are more. Rafaki A baboon
of few words, Rafaki is a long standing friend of Mufasa. Rafaki oversees the spiritual aspects.
Rafaki is also seen as humorous as he takes great pride in hitting Simba with his staff. He goes all
kung fu on the hyenas during the battle with Scar. He foresees Simba s return to the Pridelands
years after he was exiled by hyenas. Best Quote: The past can hurt. But the way I see it, you can
either run from it or learn from it. Okay, so to the outside world, Rafaki is down right nutty and
annoying and maybe a little creepy. However, his apparent nonsense is actually based on
wisdom. Sarabi Even though we don t see much of Sarabi in the film, she still plays an important
role. She is Mufasa s mate/wife, the mother of Simba and the sister in law of Scar. She is seen to
maternal, kind and doesn t like it when Scar talks poorly about Mufasa after his death. Best
Quote: It s over! There is nothing left! We have only one choice: We must leave Pride Rock!
Simba Simba first makes his appearance as a cub laying in the paws of his mother, Sarabi. He is
presented to the kingdom as the heir of Pride Rock. Over the course of the film, Simba goes from
being a cub determined to be a king. He becomes young adult wanting nothing to do with his past.

Social Order Theories
An order theorist desires stability, predictability, and harmony (Durkheim Halls, 1997). The Great
Depression was anything but stable, predictable, and harmonious. In an effort to equilibrate social
order, President Roosevelt proposed a series of social and economic programs beginning in 1933
(class notes, 2015; Stern Axinn, 2011). Over the course of five to six years, the United States
experienced everything from immense failures to great successes as FDR tried to rebuild the
economy. To understand the changes that occurred from 1929 to 1939, Emile Durkheim the most
notable order theorist can offer a unique perspective (Russell, 2014).

Theme Of Comradeship In All Quiet On The Western Front
Which in the field developed into the finest thing that arose out of the war comradeship,
(Remarque 27). Throughout the war, soldiers depend on each other to be able to live another day.
Through small acts of kindness, sorrow from loss, and never leaving one behind emerges the theme
of comradeship, which is clearly represented in the novel, All Quiet On The Western Front.
Comradeship all starts with small acts of kindness, which begins a bond friendship. For
example, when Muller died he gave Paul his boots, which once belonged to Kemmerich; Paul s
best friend. Before he died he handed over his pocket book to me, and bequeathed me his boots
the same that he once inherited from Kemmerich, (Remarque 279). Not only was Muller giving
the boots away a sign of approval, but also was a true treasure for Paul. For example, since
previously the boots belonged to Kemmerich they held memories between Kemmerich and Paul.
With memories came symbolism that the boots represented the last thing Paul could of have of
Kemmerich. As well as keeping a secret like the whereabouts of Tjaden. He asks for Tjaden. We
shrug our shoulders, (Remarque 89). Not revealing the whereabouts of Tjaden expresses that the
troops will not rat out their friend even if they get in trouble for it. This scene signifies
comradeship by portraying that comrades have each other s backs. Troops risk consequences for
themselves by protecting their fellow comrades, for they know Tjaden would do the same in

Persuasive Letter On Social Justice
Dear Ms. Haynes, As you may know, the fight towards social justice has been going on long
enough. Through recent events such as taking a knee during the national anthem or the white
supremacist rallies; tension has grown to new heights. Although it may be difficult to fight the
issue of social justice within our divided nation, I believe there is a solution that could help build a
foundation towards equality. An issue that isn t often highlighted is how troubled youth will find
themselves in trouble with the law at a young age and end up being reincarcerated within a vicious
cycle of bad behavior with no positive influences. Another issue that I would like to discuss is food
insecurity within the United States. Primarily in big cities, food insecurity is a problem that
must be addressed in order to provide a healthy future for our community as a whole. A solution I
ve come up with is able to tackle both of these issues head on and hopefully provide a healthier
and safer community for us Colorado residence. It has come to me that the youth that finds
themselves lost within our court systems have not necessarily had the proper influences to allow

Cyber Attacks And The Internet
The terms hacker and hacking are often associated with malicious cyber attacks carried out by no
name specters wandering around in cyberspace. These people intentionally create virtual chaos for
anyone or any computer connected to the internet (global network). Such activities range from
causing system errors program crashes, lockups, and system shutdowns to intrusion attempts to gain
access to private information or data, and even to steal personal funds. A decent hackercan gain total
control over a user s PC while it s in use. Generally, hackers disrupt the flow of normal everyday
life by manipulating security codes, capitalizing on security vulnerabilities to take advantage of
many computerusers, private networks, and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is a shadowy task but it is performed only to better protect consumer s physical and virtual
property.
A majority consensus views hackers as evil people who do nothing by play around in computers all
day to improve their intrusion techniques in order to steal money, information, and cripple
computer systems for various reasons. Based on the second paragraph of this paper, the consensus
is somewhat flawed. The confusion stems from the definition of hacker and how they have been
perceived. Hacking was originally defined as the production of furniture with the use of an axe, but
MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology the origination of the replacement term hacker) define
it as students who pulled pranks with the use of a computer. In 1963, a group of MIT students tied
up phone lines from both the MIT and Harvard Campuses, turning lines inactive and using
available lines to make long distance phone calls that carried hefty phone charges. This was the first
instance of the term being applied to the young, and rising profession of hacking. It has since then
been in permanent use due to the evolutional path of hacking the aspect that was widely publicized.
In 1983, the 414s, a group of 6 computer hackers, broke into Sloan Kettering Cancer Center
computer systems and deleted a number of patient billing information. They, again, broke in Los
Alamos National Laboratory known for its research in nuclear technologies. The leader Neal

The Theory Of Cognitive Approach On Eating Disorders
Eating Disorders (ED) are a real epidemic plaguing industrialized and developed societies,
affecting mostly adolescents and young adults (Benas Gibb 2011). In general, the flawed
thinking of people suffering from such diseases is characterized by an obsession with perfection
of the body. The impact that eating disorders have on women has always been more prevalent
than on males. (Benas Gibb 2011; Polivy Herman 2002). The culture bound syndromes are
constellations of signs and symptoms, that are restricted to certain the cultural pressure to lose
weight, which is considered a key element of the etiology of these disorders, therefore, along with
biological, psychological and family factors have been generating an excessive preoccupation with
the body, an abnormal fear of becoming fat and anxiety markedly accompanied by changes in the
body schema. These are therefore the characteristics of Bulimia Nervosa(BN) and Anorexia Nervosa
(AN). The following ten literature review attempt to demonstrate and support the theory of
cognitive approach on eating disorders, briefly understanding the neurobiological mechanisms.
Eating Disorders are defined as deviations of eating behavior that can lead to extreme weight loss
(cachexia) or obesity, among other physical problems and disabilities. The main types of eating
disorders are Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia Nervosa. These two diseases are closely related
because they represented some symptoms in common: a prevalent idea involving

North America and the 4th tallest in the world. With more than 250,000 passengers a day on more

Airport Background
Atlanta s International airport has a rich and full history and is the airport it is today because of
everything it s been thru over time since the 1920s. Who would ve thought that an airport the
magnitude and significance and the economic impact it provides today started as an abandoned
auto track on 278 acres of land. (ATL Airport History) Atlanta international had very unassuming
beginnings and it was no small feat getting the airport to where it is today as the busiest airport in
the world. Its first commercial air service started on September 15th, 1926 which was an airmail
route Tampa/Jacksonville/Atlanta operated by Florida Airways. (ATL Airport History) On June

Salary Cap History
Executive Summary: In this paper we will examine the history of the salary cap structures in
sports focusing mainly on the version that the NFL uses. We will also take a in depth look at the
four different areas that makes up the salary cap (Salary Cap, Active Spending, Dead Money and
Cap Space) and impact the cap has had on the players themselves. As well as how it has reshaped
the teams and leagues itself to help the NFL to grow into the Multi Billion Dollar sports empire
that it was become today. Who would have thought that making the decision to place a limit upon
spending and giving everyone the same opportunity for success would have such a profound effect
on the growth and popularity of the sport? Introduction: Salary caps have been... Show more content

At the start of the 2014 season the Los Angeles Dodgers had the largest payroll at a staggering
$235,295,219. On the flipside if we were to look at the bottom of this list the Houston Astros
opened the year at $44,544,174 and the Miami Marlins at $47,565,400 or around 20% of the
Dodgers payroll. What I found to be even more staggering is the fact that after the Miami
Marlins the next lowest payroll was $77,062,891 belonging to the Tampa Bay Rays. So while
spending money doesn t always breed success in that four teams in this year s bottom six
Oakland, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, and Tampa Bay made the playoffs in 2013 and only three
teams in the top six did. This was an exception to the rule because in 2014 five of the top 10 and
seven of the top 15 made the playoffs while only three teams ranked 19th or higher in payroll
achieved any kind of success. Proving that while spending large amounts of money does not
guarantee success, it definitely doesn t hurt your chances. The other popular belief that I have read
is that it helps curb costs so that owners don t have to spend as much out of their own pockets.
Which would make sense however the sports franchises in themselves are investments that cost
hundreds of millions to even multiple billions of dollars. So the idea they would need to pinch
pennies once the initial investment is made doesn t add up or sit well with the fans who find their
rooting interests at the bottom end of the financial

Argumentative Essay On National Parks
At one point in life, every American should be able to visit and enjoy the picturesque scenery of
the numerous national parks. Doing so relaxes the mind and body while also creating a sense of
tranquility as the person soaks in the sun savoring the wonderful works of nature. Imagine not
being able to experience that. According to Linda Bilmes and John Loomis Americans Think
National Parks are Worth Way More than What We Spend on Them , national parks are America s
best idea (Bilmes and Loomis). In this day and age, people prefer the pleasure of technology as
opposed to the luxury of the great outdoors. This is a problem that previous generations never
encountered and there must be a solution. Luckily, the National Park Service(NPS) has various
programs that can inspire this generations enthusiasm. The NPS has made several strategically
smart efforts to engage the youth in the national parks and it has helped to widen the demographics
of park goers.
The primary problem with national parks is that there is a scarce number of attendants from the
younger age group. It s vital that the younger generation takes an interest because the future

Marriott To Buy Starwood Hotels, Creating World s Largest...
Summary of Article
Marriott to Buy Starwood Hotels, Creating World s Largest Hotel Company is an article I retrieved
from The New York Times, which deliberates, how Marriott International acquired Starwood Hotels
and Resorts Worldwide for $12.2 billion. The announcement was a surprise to the industry, because
Hyatt Hotel Corporation, InterContinental Hotels Group and some other Chinese companies were
in the blend to pursue the transaction, Additionally, Marriott is more considered as a dominant
entity in the hotel industry, especially in the upscale sector where Starwood also has a dominant
name.
By Marriott, a strategic review begun several months ago but at first Marriott wasn t fully
interested due to higher list price. However as time went by, Marriott identified some relative shift
in the value of the company, which made it more attractive economically, and Marriott started to
believe that they can create value by merging the two company. The recognition of the value
resulted a deal, which created the world s largest hotel with more than 5,500 hotels.

informal meeting is more relaxed and doesn t have to follow all the guidelines of a formal

A formal meeting has more structure to it, it requires an agenda and minutes to be taken. Examples
of the need for a formal meeting would be board meetings, management meetings, and committee
meetings.

The chair person is the person to hold the meeting together. They need to ensure that the meeting
starts and ends at the agreed time and that it follows the agenda. They also need to ensure that the

they wish the minute taker to note in particularly. If the meeting gets out of hand it is the

Buffalo Restoration Debate Essay
Buffalo Restoration Debate
Restoration of the Bison is something that has been going on for the past two decades. As a matter
of fact, several Native American tribes have come together to form the Inter Tribal Bison
Cooperative (ITBC) which has been set out to bring bison back onto the American plains in the
midwest. Bison have an intimate relationship in the traditions and rituals of Native Americans. The
importance of bison within the culture has made bringing back the bison an important issue in the
preservation of wildlife. However, some of the arguments made by the ITBC show that the bison s
economic value should be the main factor why they should be brought back. Yet others involved in
this cause suggest that buffalo restoration ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the basic arguments for the restoration of bison back onto the prairies involves the
economic benefits. Five of the nations ten poorest counties are located on Indian reservations
(Manning, WWW). With decreasing beef prices and increasing land values, the margin of profit
continues to narrow. A majority of the cattle industry that once was present in the midwest have
sought greener pastures east in states such as Florida, Tennessee, and Kentucky (Popper, D).
Another possible opponent, the Forest Service also no longer seems to focus on maximizing
their timber yields in the midwest, but rather in northern California, Oregon, and Washington
(Popper, D). Bison offer a plausible solution due to their low cost (about half as much as cattle).
Bison are also better adapted to the environment and produce the same amount of meat which is
higher in protein, lower in cholesterol and fat, compared to cattle. In terms of land usage, bison
graze and then move while cattle remain where they are thus damaging the soil. Bison also eat a
greater variety of grasses, something which lacks with cattle. A proposal made by conservationists
suggest that, Ranchers can easily switch to buffalo and sell hunting rights, meats, hides, horns, and
skulls at healthy prices (Popper DE, 1994). Care of bison is also simple because unlike cattle,
bison can withstand plains winters. Land value also increases when it offers game

Monsters In Anne Rice s Interview With The Vampire
Every year millions of children lose sleep over the fear of a monster laying underneath their beds.
This fear is not irrational, as monsters are dangerous and deadly. Although some would argue that
there is an attraction factor which comes from the fear of monsters, this attraction is only limited to
the modern vampire. Their unique ability to step outside the realm of society and break boundaries
which only some could imagine tearing through is exactly what makes them so intriguing to the
public. The common theme of vampires in early literature, which captured the public s attention,
has always revolved around violence, ugliness, and horror. Novels with vampires had them

Impact Of King Kalakaua On The Hawaiian Renaissance
A changing Nation
The Hawaiian renaissance was a time period in Hawaii s history that influenced many people
during that time. King Kalakaua created conflict between the Hawaiians and Americans. The
United States of America failed to recognize Hawaii s opposition to annexation and created
compromises that made a big impact on how Hawaii flourished culturally, politically, and
economically.
Hawaiian Monarchy was slowly dying due to their powers being taken away. Hawaiian Culture
was beginning to get lost from society because more and more people were being drawn to
foreign beliefs and ways of life as the haole population continued to grow, this is initially when The
First Hawaiian Renaissance had begun. Compromises, many made by King Kalakaua, ... Show

The Hawaiian Renaissance also gave natives an opportunity to fight for what they knew was right
about preserving the Hawaiian culture forever. This provided an avenue for people who did not
know Hawaiian culture to witness, and at the same time, understand what it took to preserve the
culture. Lastly, the Hawaiian renaissance had further pushed the United states to find ways to take
away what rightfully belonged to the Hawaiians, including culture, in means of agreements that
were not written on just formal documents but done without consent. Regardless, it had also
drawn Hawaii as nation under the United States. The conflicts and compromises made during
this Hawaiian Renaissance completely changed what people now know as Hawaii, and it is
truly an important aspect of what it came to be today and how the culture of Hawaiians was
preserved. People all over the world, especially those who know nothing about Hawaii or even
America, should all learn about this major time in Hawaii s history where people fought against
the eradication of their culture, as their way of life. The Hawaiian renaissance is too vague to be
compared to a personal problem in life, but it shows how with a conflict and many compromises,
many things can

D. clarkcr@auburn.edu phone 334 844 8326 fax 334 844 8331 Abstract The 1 alkyl 3 acylindoles and the inverse regioisomeric 1 acyl 3 alkylindoles can be prepared directly from a common set of precursor materials and using similar synthetic strategies. The EI mass spectra for these isomers show a number of unique ions which allow for the differentiation of the 1 alkyl 3 acylindole compounds from the inverse regioisomeric 1 acyl 3 alkylindoles. The base peak at m /z 214 in the 1 n pentyl 3 benzoylindole represents the M 77 cation fragment resulting from the loss of the phenyl group and this ion is not observed in the inverse isomer. The 1 benzoyl 3 n pentylindole inverse regioisomer shows a base peak at m/z 105 for the benzoyl cation. Thus, these two base peaks are the result of fragmentation initiated at the carbonyl oxygen for both isomers. The 1 pentyl 3 benzoylindole is characterized by the strong intensity carbonyl band at 1703 cm 1 while the amide carbonyl appears as a strong band of equal intensity at 1681 cm 1 in the 1 benzoyl 3 pentyl regioisomer. 1. When reading about the latent fingerprint evidence I did not know that a person s fingerprints could be mixed up with someone else s; thus causing them to be accused of a crime that they did not commit. This latent fingerprint description surprised me on how the police officials perform taking fingerprints on crime scenes, and in the different forms that they can take them. What makes me wonder is that how can two different people s fingerprints become concluded as the same person by running it through a machine that s supposed to know one person from another. As with the case of the two men in Madrid who was mixed up because of faulty latent prints that were taken, and run through a fingerprint identification system (IAFIS); at the time of the crime scene; mixed up two people s identity that were not even close in identity. It is inconceivable how even the poorest nations allocate big portions of their budgets to military hardware and not food production. With a population of only eight million people, it is surprising how the state has failed to channel funds to agricultural activities in order to feed its small population comfortably. 62.8% of Hondurans live in poverty, and 6 out of 10 of households are subject to extreme poverty of incomes of less than $1.25 per day (World Bank, 2013). This situation is replicated in almost every country that is at the bottom of economic food chain. Still, the Honduras hunger story reads like a horror movie as it is affecting almost every child born and brought up in the country. • 17. Ambiguity In Dubious Battle Ambiguity is defined as the quality of being open to more than one interpretation. In fiction, it leads readers to consider various conclusions and provokes them to go beyond the text itself. In Dubious Battle exemplifies this. John Steinbeck ensures that every character, every conflict, and every theme incorporates some form of ambiguity. Not only does this provoke the reader to think beyond the socio economic problems directly expressed within the text, but it also sparks questions regarding the main purpose of writing the novel. Steinbeck achieves this by giving insight regarding the ambiguous nature of the characters themselves. Doc perfectly characterizes this by suggesting that Mac is an actor (66). Mac, quickly rebuts by stating that his speech has a kind of feel to it, to imply he does not try to do it (66). Nonetheless, by implementing Mac within certain important scenes of the stories, Steinbeck always gives the impression that Mac is the master orchestrator at every turn, and further showing that he would sacrifice anyone to reach his ambitions. As a result, his ambiguous nature is essential to follow in order to foreshadow any new development that occurs throughout the plot line. Any individual would follow Mac s lead because of how he framed himself to be an altruistic person. Moreover, his ability to dictate both London and Dakin throughout the story demonstrates his ability to lead behind the scenes. All of these examples suggest how Mac is the protagonist within the story and he was the central character to analyze and understand. This was the thought process that carries through until the shift of balance in power between Mac and Jim. Mac s body and muscles shuddered, after he had beaten the kid to send a message regarding tampering with the strike (214). Introduction In this essay I will evaluate the success of implementation of the Final solution in four nations. These four nations are the Netherlands, France, Yugoslavia and Italy. There will be a description of the treatment of Jews as well as the kill rate in that country. Besides, there will be an analysis, why the countries cooperated and why some nations were more successful in implementing the final solution. Lastly, I will compare and contrast all the data of the nations in the conclusion. The Netherlands The installation of pro German government in the Netherlands starkly contributed to the high Jewish death toll. When the Netherlands was being invaded by the Germans the Dutch Cabinet and the Queen fled to England. Therefore, after the occupation, the Germans could install in contrast to other occupied countries a Pro German Civilian Government, led by the Austrian Arthur Seyss Inquart. He had the full control over all the civil servants in the Netherlands and could therefore easily implement new anti Jewish policies. One of his first policies was to establish a Jewish Council with the purpose to control the Jews and unnoticeably strip them away of their rights. Also with the help of the civil servants, Seyss Inquart could initiate a registration system to make the Jews more easily identifiable by inserting a J on their card. • 20. Climate Control And The Greenhouse Effect The way a greenhouse works is that sunlight shines in and warms up the plants, and some of that radiation can t exit through the glass forcing the heat to stay in the greenhouse. The UV radiation comes through the glass walls and warms the plants while weaker IR radiation has trouble getting through the glass walls so it s trapped in the greenhouse; thus, warming it up (Lallanila, What Is the Greenhouse Effect? ). Similarly, the Earth has incoming heat that is then trapped, warming up the surface. It works the same way a greenhouse does hence the name the Greenhouse Effect (Lallanila, What is the Greenhouse Effect? ). There are a few greenhouse gases that are responsible for the Greenhouse Effect. Making up 1% of our atmosphere, Carbon Dioxide, Ozone, Methane, and Water Vapor, act as a blanket that surrounds Earth to help regulate climate control (Rinkesh. For McBride, the point of conducting market research is to identify good markets to pursue that the bank is not already pursuing. This research should also help McBride to determine how these markets compare to the market it already has. The company may find through the course of this research that its current target market is the best one to target going forward, a strategy that implies further penetration of the existing market as opposed to opening up new markets. McBride should therefore conduct market research using the available demographic information from the US Census Bureau, and information from its own customer bases. Ideally, the company would be able to formulate customer profiles of competitors, but this information may be difficult to obtain. McBride should aim to create a demographic and psychographic profile of its current customer base, and the same for other potential customer bases. Differences between McBride s existing customers and the general population of the area in which McBride operates can highlight some potential markets, in terms of demographics, income levels, education, banking behavior and other key variables. Ultimately, these factors contribute to the development of methamphetamine abuse but also provide tangible strategies to counteract addiction. Boshears et al. (2011) suggest methamphetamine users separate from existing social networks that encourage consumption and discover new networks that support cessation of drug use. However, many methamphetamine addicts would be forced to disassociate from immediate family or be required to terminate employment which create limitations due to the impracticality of these changes. Evidently, social determinants contribute to methamphetamine addiction, however successful treatment can only occur in conjunction with the attenuation of significant physiological and psychological factors. The complexity of the human brain creates mystery when determining the influence of neurophysiological factors and their role in the process of addiction. There is a proposed relationship between drug addiction and the mesolimbic dopamine system, with the mesolimbic pathway from the ventral tegmental area to the nucleus accumbens considered the reward centre of the human brain (Alcohol Rehab, 2011). By writing the cover into the story, Fitzgerald blurs the line that separates these two pieces of art and merges their message of change to culture and the true nature of that culture. Proper Timing And Placement Of Fertilizer Proper timing and placement of fertilizer, development of more efficient crop varieties, and proper irrigation are among some of the other solutions to improve the efficiency of nitrogen uptake (Robertson Vitousek, 2009). Considering the widespread use of fertilizers and huge area of arable land in use, one particularly promising solution seems to be the use of fertilizers coated with nitrification inhibitors. A study measuring the effect of dicyandiamide (DCD), which limits the conversion of NH4+ to NO3 , on a grazed pasture demonstrated a 68 percent reduction in nitrate leaching as a result of its application (Di Cameron, 2005). In addition to nitrogen releases, agricultural activities contribute significant amounts of carbon dioxideand methane to the environment, both of which are GHGs. Within this sector, methane enters the atmosphere mainly through enteric fermentation by ruminants, manure, and rice paddies. Without taking into account emissions from fossil fuel use, agricultureis responsible for about one third of global net carbon dioxide emissions as a result of deforestation, burning of biomass, and draining of wetlands (Johnson, Franzluebbers, Weyers, Reicosky, 2007). Bruce Dawe represents the identity of two very different types of people in his poems Homo Suburbiensis and Drifters where he represents the identity of his subjects through more of a specific description of a certain set of people and not any person in particular in an informative tone , while Dorothea Mackellar focuses more on her own identity in her poem, My... As we look through a proverbial magnifying glass into the life of the man, the poem examines even the smallest of details during those few seconds the man spends in his garden as we observe him. We learn that he is in a vegetable patch and the line all the things he takes down with him there suggests more than garden tools, but also his thoughts, specifically his problems and worries, which may be depicted as a weight one may be carrying. This suggests to us that his vegetable patch is a sanctuary, his own personal private place of relaxation where he can sink into his own mind and think things over. The second stanza uses sensory imagery to let the reader put himself in the place of the man in the garden, no longer simply observing him, which helps the reader develop a more accurate picture of exactly the state of mind the man may be in during his time in his garden. Let s take a look at the characters in the order that they appear in the film. Zazu As the king s majordomo it is his job to see to everything in the name of the king. Seen as bossy and highly organised, Zazu is an early babysitter to Simba and Nala at the beginning of the film. Sarabi tells Simba and Nala, they can go to the watering hole as long as Zazu goes with them. Best Quote: Didn t your mother ever tell you not to play with your food? Mufasa The king of the Pridelands until his death, Mufasa was no nonsense but loved his son. He was always at odds with his younger brother, Scar. Until his death, Mufasa tried to teach Simba, what he would need to know when he became king. Best Quote: You have forgotten who you are and so have forgotten me. Look inside yourself, Simba. You are more. Rafaki A baboon of few words, Rafaki is a long standing friend of Mufasa. Rafaki oversees the spiritual aspects. Rafaki is also seen as humorous as he takes great pride in hitting Simba with his staff. He goes all kung fu on the hyenas during the battle with Scar. He foresees Simba s return to the Pridelands years after he was exiled by hyenas. Best Quote: The past can hurt. But the way I see it, you can either run from it or learn from it. Okay, so to the outside world, Rafaki is down right nutty and annoying and maybe a little creepy. However, his apparent nonsense is actually based on wisdom. Sarabi Even though we don t see much of Sarabi in the film, she still plays an important role. She is Mufasa s mate/wife, the mother of Simba and the sister in law of Scar. She is seen to maternal, kind and doesn t like it when Scar talks poorly about Mufasa after his death. Best Quote: It s over! There is nothing left! We have only one choice: We must leave Pride Rock! Simba Simba first makes his appearance as a cub laying in the paws of his mother, Sarabi. He is presented to the kingdom as the heir of Pride Rock. Over the course of the film, Simba goes from being a cub determined to be a king. He becomes young adult wanting nothing to do with his past. He believed for years that he ... Over the course of five to six years, the United States experienced everything from immense failures to great successes as FDR tried to rebuild the economy. • 37. Theme Of Comradeship In All Quiet On The Western Front Which in the field developed into the finest thing that arose out of the war comradeship, (Remarque 27). Throughout the war, soldiers depend on each other to be able to live another day. Through small acts of kindness, sorrow from loss, and never leaving one behind emerges the theme of comradeship, which is clearly represented in the novel, All Quiet On The Western Front. Comradeship all starts with small acts of kindness, which begins a bond friendship. For example, when Muller died he gave Paul his boots, which once belonged to Kemmerich; Paul s best friend. Before he died he handed over his pocket book to me, and bequeathed me his boots the same that he once inherited from Kemmerich, (Remarque 279). Not only was Muller giving the boots away a sign of approval, but also was a true treasure for Paul. For example, since previously the boots belonged to Kemmerich they held memories between Kemmerich and Paul. With memories came symbolism that the boots represented the last thing Paul could of have of Kemmerich. As well as keeping a secret like the whereabouts of Tjaden. He asks for Tjaden. We shrug our shoulders, (Remarque 89). Not revealing the whereabouts of Tjaden expresses that the troops will not rat out their friend even if they get in trouble for it. This scene signifies comradeship by portraying that comrades have each other s backs. Troops risk consequences for themselves by protecting their fellow comrades, for they know Tjaden would do the same in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 40. Persuasive Letter On Social Justice Dear Ms. Haynes, As you may know, the fight towards social justice has been going on long enough. Through recent events such as taking a knee during the national anthem or the white supremacist rallies; tension has grown to new heights. Although it may be difficult to fight the issue of social justice within our divided nation, I believe there is a solution that could help build a foundation towards equality. An issue that isn t often highlighted is how troubled youth will find themselves in trouble with the law at a young age and end up being reincarcerated within a vicious cycle of bad behavior with no positive influences. Another issue that I would like to discuss is food insecurity within the United States. Primarily in big cities, food insecurity is a problem that must be addressed in order to provide a healthy future for our community as a whole. A solution I ve come up with is able to tackle both of these issues head on and hopefully provide a healthier and safer community for us Colorado residence. It has come to me that the youth that finds themselves lost within our court systems have not necessarily had the proper influences to allow them to be productive members of our society. This is why I propose that these teens should be given a second chance by offering them the chance to help out their community and provide work for the community gardens in the struggling places of the Denver Metro area. The Theory Of Cognitive Approach On Eating Disorders Eating Disorders (ED) are a real epidemic plaguing industrialized and developed societies, affecting mostly adolescents and young adults (Benas Gibb 2011). In general, the flawed thinking of people suffering from such diseases is characterized by an obsession with perfection of the body. The impact that eating disorders have on women has always been more prevalent than on males. (Benas Gibb 2011; Polivy Herman 2002). What I found to be even more staggering is the fact that after the Miami Marlins the next lowest payroll was $77,062,891 belonging to the Tampa Bay Rays. So while spending money doesn t always breed success in that four teams in this year s bottom six Oakland, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, and Tampa Bay made the playoffs in 2013 and only three teams in the top six did. This was an exception to the rule because in 2014 five of the top 10 and seven of the top 15 made the playoffs while only three teams ranked 19th or higher in payroll achieved any kind of success. Proving that while spending large amounts of money does not guarantee success, it definitely doesn t hurt your chances. The other popular belief that I have read is that it helps curb costs so that owners don t have to spend as much out of their own pockets. Which would make sense however the sports franchises in themselves are investments that cost hundreds of millions to even multiple billions of dollars. One of the basic arguments for the restoration of bison back onto the prairies involves the economic benefits. Five of the nations ten poorest counties are located on Indian reservations (Manning, WWW). With decreasing beef prices and increasing land values, the margin of profit continues to narrow. A majority of the cattle industry that once was present in the midwest have sought greener pastures east in states such as Florida, Tennessee, and Kentucky (Popper, D). Another possible opponent, the Forest Service also no longer seems to focus on maximizing their timber yields in the midwest, but rather in northern California, Oregon, and Washington (Popper, D). Bison offer a plausible solution due to their low cost (about half as much as cattle). Bison are also better adapted to the environment and produce the same amount of meat which is higher in protein, lower in cholesterol and fat, compared to cattle. In terms of land usage, bison graze and then move while cattle remain where they are thus damaging the soil. Bison also eat a greater variety of grasses, something which lacks with cattle. A proposal made by conservationists suggest that, Ranchers can easily switch to buffalo and sell hunting rights, meats, hides, horns, and skulls at healthy prices (Popper DE, 1994).
