- 2007 Elected County Surveyor never had job description Worth noting – Co Surveyor that was proposing the change, his private survey company was the only company that doing contracted survey work for the County. Transition was overall a very tense. Also for Committee members was somewhat challenging to follow. Little understanding of the function of the surveyors office, very little committee oversight My involvement with transition was make sure that it was done right, In the transition I wanted to see more checks and balances, and detailed job descriptions, assess how the office was currently functioning, even went to the extent of interviewing 4 surveyors that work in the County. Talked to other Counties about the structure of their Offices, budgets etc. Wanted to raise the bar on the expectations from that office because I felt we were not getting much for our money. Also, wanted to see measures taken that would improve the quality of records, organization, access, and perpetuation of records. Also, saw this as an opportunity to open the door to modernization efforts in the office…modernization efferts have permetated into many County functions, and the Suveyors Office was not one of them Committee embraced transition from elected to appointed. More control or impact on the County Surveyor functions General agreement that position really did not need to be elected, based on what other counties were doing at the time,, in 08 only 5 other counties had an elected surveyor. Resoultion – Understanding that transition would not cost the County more annually.
