Wireless power transmission involves transferring electricity without wires using magnetic field resonance. Nikola Tesla conducted early experiments in the late 19th/early 20th century, transmitting power over short distances. It works by generating oscillating magnetic fields from one coil connected to a power source which induces a current in a nearby coil connected to a device. Known as inductive coupling, it relies on the coils having near identical resonant frequencies. Potential advantages include reducing e-waste by eliminating power cords and enabling power delivery in any direction. Safety is ensured as magnetic fields pass harmlessly through living tissues. Future applications could include powering devices over longer ranges including wireless charging of electric vehicles.

One of the major issue in power system is the losses occurs during the transmission and distribution of electrical power. As the demand increases day by day, the power generation increases and the power loss is also increased. The major amount of power loss occurs during transmission and distribution. The percentage of loss of power during transmission and distribution is approximated as 26%. The main reason for power loss during transmission and distribution is the resistance of wires used for grid. The efficiency of power transmission can be improved to certain level by using high strength composite overhead conductors and underground cables that use high temperature super conductor. But, the transmission is still inefficient. According to the World Resources Institute (WRI), India’s electricity grid has the highest transmission and distribution losses in the world – a whopping 27%. Numbers published by various Indian government agencies put that number at 30%,40% and greater than 40%. This is attributed to technical losses (grid’s inefficiencies) and theft. Any problem can be solved by state of the art technology. The above discussed problem can be solvedby choose an alternative option for power transmission which could provide much higher efficiency, low transmission cost and avoid power theft. Microwave Power Transmission is one of the promising technologies and may be the righteous alternative for efficient power transmission.
Wireless electricity or WiTricity is the transfer of electric energy or power over a distance without the use of wires. In order for the energy to be transferred safely coupled resonators are used. Coupled resonators are two objects of the same resonant frequency that exchange energy efficiently without much leakage. Minimizing energy leakage is very important because the goal is to have as much energy as possible be transferred from one object to another.

Electric Propulsion (EP) is a class of space propulsion which makes use of electrical power to accelerate a propellant by different possible electrical and/or magnetic means. The use of electrical power enhances the propulsive performances of the EP thrusters compared with conventional chemical thrusters. Unlike chemical systems, electric propulsion requires very little mass to accelerate a spacecraft. The propellant is ejected up to twenty times faster than from a classical chemical thruster and therefore the overall system is many times more mass efficient.
Electric Propulsion, when compared with chemical propulsion, is not limited in energy, but is only limited by the available electrical power on-board the spacecraft. Therefore EP is suitable for low- thrust (micro and milli-newton levels) long-duration applications on board spacecrafts. The propellant used in EP systems varies with the type of thruster and can be a rare gas (i.e. xenon or argon), a liquid metal or, in some cases, a conventional propellant.
Electric Propulsion System components
An Electric Propulsion System is composed by four different building blocks:
The thruster components,
The propellant components or fluidic management system, The power components, which includes the PPU,
The pointing mechanisms (optional).

Inventor Nikola Tesla performed the first experiments in
wireless power transmission at the turn of the 20th
century, and may have done more to popularize the idea
than any other individual.
In the period 1891 to 1904 he experimented with spark-
excited radio frequency resonant transformers, now
called Tesla coils, which generated high AC voltages on
elevated capacitive terminals. With these he was able to
transmit power for short distances without wires.
5. EEE DEPARTMENT
What is wireless power transmission
Transfer of electricity without using connections
between input and load is termed as wireless
electricity.
This is not like wireless transmission of signals
which we used in the cell phones.
In cell phones signals are sent in the form of
micro waves whereas in this mode of transition
electricity is transferred in the form of magnetic
waves.
7. EEE DEPARTMENT
How it works
Resonant Magnetic Coupling: when two objects exchange
energy through their varying or oscillating magnetic fields. -
Natural frequencies of the two objects are approximately the same.
8. EEE DEPARTMENT
Working principle of witricity
Witricity works on the principle of mutual induction between the
two coils.
There are two copper coils arranged one at the sender end and
other at the receiver end .The first coil is attached to the power
source while the second coil to the light bulb.
When the power is switched on the first coil converts the
electricity into magnetic field ,which is oscillating at a particular
frequency i.e, AC source.
The second coil at the receiver end converts the magnetic field into
electricity .The surrounding environment is unaffected.
WiTricity is based on strong coupling between electromagnetic
resonant objects to transfer energy wirelessly between them.
12. EEE DEPARTMENT
Advantages
An advantage is that we can produce electricity
anywhere without wires.
The power can be delivered in any direction i.e,
omnidirectional.
Most common things in our surroundings do not interact
with these magnetic fields and thus not harmful to other
living beings
Reduction of e-waste by eliminating the need for power
cords.
Cost of conductor and size of conductor will decreases.
13. EEE DEPARTMENT
Safety
Any living organisms that are placed in between the two
coils(transmitter &emitter) will not halt or hinder the
transmission of magnetic field.
It is because the magnetic rays will not interact with the
living tissues so strong and can be easily passed through
the humans or other living organisms.
