Wireless Transmission of Electricity
~ By Aniket R. Vishwakarma
What and How…?
What is wireless transmission of electricity and how its possible ?
Wireless power transfer is the transmission of electrical energy
without wires as a physical connection.
It is possible due to a principle called electromagnetic induction.
wireless electricity is 100-year old dream that just might turn into a
reality in coming years.
Inventor and his Invention
The brilliant concept of wireless electricity transmisssion
was discovered and invented by Sir Nikola Tesla.
He was an Electrical-Mechanical Engineer by profession.
He also invented AC Motor and Tesla Coil.
He always dreamt of making world wireless.
Principle
It is based on the principle of electromagnetic induction.
Wireless transmission is similar to working of transformer in our
life i.e. the side coil forms an alternating magnetic field and
the induced electromotive force is generated to the other side of
the coil.
Working
When a conductor is placed under a varying magnetic field a small current will be
induced inside the conductor
For a Tesla coil this conductor will be called as the secondary coil and the varying
magnetic field will be produced by the primary coil by passing an oscillating
current through the primary coil.
A primary coil which will have an oscillating current, and hence will produce a
carrying magnetic flux around it. Now, this coil is wound around the secondary coil
and hence a according to law of electromagnetic induction a voltage will
be induced in the secondary coil.
Since the number of turns in the secondary coil is very large than primary coil, this
voltage will be a very high voltage and hence this coil will have a very strong
electric flux around it that is powerful enough to glow normal CFL bulbs and is used
in Wireless Power Transmission
Demonstration
Circuit Diagram
Needfor Wirelesselectricity
The ever increasing power demand
To reduce dependency on wires and batteries
The demand of eco friendly power
Requirement of efficient and reliable power
PROS
Several devices can be charged simultaneously
Reduction of towers and wires
High power in output
No short circuit
Eco friendly
Efficient Energy Distribution
Cons
•Non directionality
•Insufficient for longer distance
•High Power loss due to continuous emission
•High Initial cost construction
Uses
Tesla used these circuits to conduct innovative experiments
in electrical lightning ,phosphorescence ray generation high frequency
alternating current phenomena electrotherapy and transmission of
electric energy without wires Tesla coil were commercially used in spark
gap radio transmitters for wireless telegraphy and in medical equipment
such as electrotherapy and violet ray devices
The day will soon come when I will show the world that the
transmission of power and speech without the aid of any wires is
possible.

where ideas are
born. ~ Nikola Tesla
