- Could we reduce the duplication in the marketplace? Could we create a marketplace?
- Can charity data support urban planning and smart cities? Can we use this info to predict the next social issue far enough in advance that policy makers and solution creators have enough time to manage the issue?
- Should we restructure the way that we incentivize donors beyond the charitable tax receipt and what about for-profit social impact investors, is there a way to incentivize their early-stage investments to encourage a social marketplace?

Susanna Haas Lyons presented best practices for designing a powerful engagement strategy for nonprofits. She explained that engagement is the interaction between nonprofits and their audiences through actions like participation, conversations, relationships, fundraising and advocacy. Effective engagement strategies create a value exchange that appeals to what audiences care about and benefits the nonprofit's mission. Some key practices include understanding what audiences value, creating meaningful opportunities for different commitment levels, having a plan for sustaining engagement, and treating all engaged groups like friends. The presentation provided a framework to strategically engage audiences both online and in-person.

Carly Hare (Pawnee/Yankton) strives to live a commitment to advancing equity and community engagement through her professional and personal life. Carly recently stepped into the role of the Coalition Catalyst/National Director for CHANGE Philanthropy in 2015. Carly most recently served as Native Americans in Philanthropy’s Executive Director from 2010-2015 after five years of membership, and serving on the NAP Board of Directors. Carly has served on planning committees and presented at over 30 conferences at the intersection of equity and philanthropy. Carly held the position of the Director of Development for the Native American Rights Fund from 2009-2010. She served as Director of Programs for The Community Foundation Serving Boulder County for five years. She is a proud daughter, sister, auntie, ally, friend, advocate. Local entrepreneurship monitor
The Local Entrepreneurship Monitor (LEM) is a grassroots entrepreneurship research study led by LaTanya White that aims to explore why minorities and disadvantaged groups underutilize local business resources and increase their use of these resources. LEM will initiate connections with over 500 qualified leads annually through events like group therapy sessions for challenges, entrepreneurship conferences, campus visits, and continuing education courses. LEM offers partners demographic and attendance data in exchange for sponsorship to assess return on investment. Sustained, long-term partnerships provide increased benefits over single event sponsorships.

Female Entrepreneurship in the Great Phoenix Metro Area

Sevak - Social Volunteering Reimagined
SEVAK aims to engage more young people in community-based volunteerism. Current efforts to mobilize individuals place the burden of discovery on volunteers and are biased towards those who are already civically engaged. SEVAK adopts a proactive approach driven by a ‘social recruitment’ philosophy. We complement organization-created requests with personalized appeals from registered volunteers, and use intelligent algorithms combining task-compatibility with social affinity to recommend relevant opportunities. This drives conversion of un-engaged youth to civic causes and rewards existing volunteers by giving them additional ways to make and measure their impact. The SEVAK solution consists of a web-based engine with mobile/web applications for volunteer use.
Sevak was selected as a finalist for the Civic Data Challenge launched by the The National Conference on Citizenship (NCoC). Currently we are in the implementation phase, and looking for non-profits and volunteers interested in beta-testing Sevak!

Mark Kulaga is an emerging digital mixed media artist who employs contemporary photographic and conceptual methodologies. His art seeks to represent the ephemeral by manipulating found objects in a nondestructive process to create new forms that reflect the essence of the original. One series titled "Of Hearts & Wings" builds on discarded found objects until there is a new conglomeration that extends the previous form into a new representation, informed by the cycles of birth, life and death. Latino Dropout: What are doing about it?

Carly Hare (Pawnee/Yankton) strives to live a commitment to advancing equity and community engagement through her professional and personal life. Carly recently stepped into the role of the Coalition Catalyst/National Director for CHANGE Philanthropy in 2015. Carly most recently served as Native Americans in Philanthropy’s Executive Director from 2010-2015 after five years of membership, and serving on the NAP Board of Directors. Carly has served on planning committees and presented at over 30 conferences at the intersection of equity and philanthropy. Carly held the position of the Director of Development for the Native American Rights Fund from 2009-2010. She served as Director of Programs for The Community Foundation Serving Boulder County for five years. She is a proud daughter, sister, auntie, ally, friend, advocate. Local entrepreneurship monitor
The Local Entrepreneurship Monitor (LEM) is a grassroots entrepreneurship research study led by LaTanya White that aims to explore why minorities and disadvantaged groups underutilize local business resources and increase their use of these resources. LEM will initiate connections with over 500 qualified leads annually through events like group therapy sessions for challenges, entrepreneurship conferences, campus visits, and continuing education courses. LEM offers partners demographic and attendance data in exchange for sponsorship to assess return on investment. Sustained, long-term partnerships provide increased benefits over single event sponsorships.

Sevak - Social Volunteering Reimagined
SEVAK aims to engage more young people in community-based volunteerism. Current efforts to mobilize individuals place the burden of discovery on volunteers and are biased towards those who are already civically engaged. SEVAK adopts a proactive approach driven by a ‘social recruitment’ philosophy. We complement organization-created requests with personalized appeals from registered volunteers, and use intelligent algorithms combining task-compatibility with social affinity to recommend relevant opportunities. This drives conversion of un-engaged youth to civic causes and rewards existing volunteers by giving them additional ways to make and measure their impact. The SEVAK solution consists of a web-based engine with mobile/web applications for volunteer use.
Sevak was selected as a finalist for the Civic Data Challenge launched by the The National Conference on Citizenship (NCoC). Currently we are in the implementation phase, and looking for non-profits and volunteers interested in beta-testing Sevak!

Millennial Non-Profit CEO Recognized for Outstanding Leadership
The CEO of the non-profit Mobilize.org, Maya Enista Smith, has been recognized for her outstanding leadership with the 2011 EXCEL Award from the Gelman, Rosenberg & Freedman organization. As a recipient, Smith will receive a $5,000 professional development fund and Mobilize.org will get a $2,000 grant for staff leadership training. Smith is a veteran of the non-profit sector with nine years of experience focusing on civic engagement and voter empowerment issues. Middle School Report Card 2011-2012
The report card summarizes performance data for Westfall Middle School for the 2011-2012 school year.
