1. Last week had seen a new boy joining William’s class. Relations at the beginning were
not formal and there had been a couple of fights. At the end of the day this new boy
whose name happened to be Oscar became best friends with William. He had been
invited into William’s gang .Now there were five members in the gang. Oscar had come
up with the idea that they should have a name for their gang. William had come up with
the name Blood Brothers. They had finalized the name and were writing down a list of
naughty things that they would do at school.
Raj suggested that they should begin things by beating a boy that had pushed Raj in the
canteen the previous day.
Angelo had wanted to break into the canteen.
Trevin had wanted to throw water at his older brother.
Oscar did not have any suggestions and William came up with the idea that they should
lock their computer teacher from outside whilst he was inside the computer lab!
It was Monday morning and they still had not been able to do anything mischievous.
Nothing unusual had happened until the moment their class teacher appeared; it was the
same teacher that taught them who English came to the class.
Things had been quiet for the past few days. A lot of things had been planned under
William’s leadership. They had actually wanted to begin Monday morning by painting
their principal’s dog using water colors.
The principal would not be there early morning. The dog would be there. The Blood
Brothers had wanted to color it and see if the paint would go away or whether it would
stay on.
They had also wanted to find out what the principal’s face would look like when he saw
the dog whose coat was white had changed color. William had bet a bottle of Elephant
House soft drinks that the principal would not recognize the dog immediately.
Well there had been a lot of assumptions and arguments. And arguments that had been
settled down by deadly combat but at the moment there was no way for them to find out!
This was because the poor creature who was looking tired had fallen ill on the weekend.
The illness had led to his untimely death.
So the problem at least for the moment was unsolved.
Then they had come up with the idea of locking their least favorite teacher in the
computer lab. They had wanted to lock this particular teacher from outside whilst he was
inside the computer lab. This teacher as they had got to know had got a kind of serious
fever during the weekend and had been admitted to hospital. It would be another week at
least before he would return to school.

2. For the moment that plan was again out of reach. It was when school life had bored the
blood brothers to death, it was then that their class teacher, the teacher that taught them
English came to their class. He had begun telling them about something interesting.
For the first ten minutes, the blood brothers had not been able to hear anything. They had
been busy playing Book Cricket. This was a game that the William had invented.
You would virtually write down the names of five of your favorite players and then whilst
the teacher would continue the lesson they two players would be busy turning the pages
of the text book.
The batsman would turn the pages, the bowler would note the runs scored
If you turned to page ending from 1-6, they would note the exact digit. E.g. If you turned
to page 91. It would be 1 run but if you turned on page 96 or maybe 86. It would be 6
runs because the last digit is a six.
Pages ending with 7, 8, and 9 would also be counted as a run. The only way to become
out was to turn to a page that would end with zero.
Ex: Pages 90. 80 etc.
This happened very silently and William and his friends had a way of playing it with
complete innocence written on their faces. They would look ahead with blank
expressions. No one would ever guess what they were up to.
Well once their History teacher had smelt something fishy but then again he had not been
able to find out what it was. Well if he had taken their writing book and checked the last
pages he would definitely have found out a lot of interesting things.
He would definitely have been surprised to have found so many pages towards the back
that had been turned into score sheets to play Book Cricket.
Coming back to the classroom their English teacher had told them something about a
camp!
William was the first to hear the word camp. It was not just a camp he had said. He had
said that it was an adventure camp.
William asked Raj who was batting turning the pages of their English text book to stop.
There English teacher continued telling them that there would be a hike. William and his
friends had never been on a hike.
Well at first none of them even knew what a hike was and then their teacher had
continued telling them that there would be rafting and different other games like the
Caterpillar Walk and the Spider Web. The tone and the way that their teacher put it
together, definitely caught the attention of the Blood Brothers.

3. All of them were listening with their mouths wide open.
“Well, here’s something exciting,” said William in the interval.
“Do you think that it’s actually true?” questioned Raj
“Well, you know what, about that hike, I think we should just disappear for some time
and see what happens.” said William looking serious but with a kind of mischievous grin
on his face.
“Well we can’t do something like that, I mean if we disappear all of a sudden, they would
get to know and then we would be in trouble.” said Oscar
“How about something different?” asked Angelo
“How about a mid-night party? How about taking some food? And then let’s wait till mid
night and the have a real feast at sharp twelve. I mean when everyone else is asleep, we’ll
have a party.” William said all this in one breath.
Like always his friends would follow Williams’s leadership, no matter how many
problems his leadership had led them into.
“That would be really awesome, I mean I don’t think anyone else would have the courage
to do it,”
Angelo replied immediately.
“We would have a couple of rules as well, I mean to make it more interesting,”
said William
“Are you guys on it?”
“A midnight feast with a couple of rules to make it more fun and interesting.”
