This chapter describes Roald Dahl's childhood experiences with grief and loss. It begins by recounting how his oldest sister Astri and father both died from illnesses when he was young, leaving his mother to raise 5 children alone. His mother refused help and decided to send the children to school in England, as their father had wanted. Dahl then shares two memories of his own - the confusion and sadness he felt when learning of his grandfather's death at age 6, and the grief of his family when his mother miscarried years later. The chapter establishes the death and hardship Dahl experienced in his early years.

In this chapter Roald Dahl describe us his childhood. At the beginning of the chapter
Rold tell us when his oldest sister (Astri) died from appendicitis at the age of 7 , like
his own daughter (Olivia) that died from measles also at the age of 7 years. Astri was
his father's favourite so weeks later when he had pneumonia, he refuse to fight
because he wanted to go to heaven with his daughter.
His mother was left with 5 kids and one coming, and she refused to accept the help
of anyone, even her parents. She also wanted to educate his kids in an English school
just like his death husband wanted. She also thought to move to England but she was
not ready for that yet, so she decided to sell their big house and they bought other
smaller one.
He did not remember much of kindergarten, only the name of 2 sisters
. (Mrs Corfield and Miss Tucker) and that it was called Elm Tree House. He
. also remember sitting in the stairs trying to tie his shoelaces and going to
. the school in a tricycle with her oldest sister. He remember that was fun.
11. Our memories
The first thing that came into my mind was when my grandfather died.I was 6 years
old i woke up as it was a normal day, but neither of my parents were there,me and
my sisters were left at home alone. My biggest sister knew that my grandfather had
died but my other sister and i did not. That’s why she didn’t let us to answer the
phone, i went to take a shower. But when i was looking for my clothes my
grandmother and my parents arrived home and entered to the room were i was, they
were all crying and i didn’t understand anything.A minute later they threw me the
bomb that my grandfather had died, my reaction was “ok” and i continued choosing
my clothes. But that was only because i didn’t understand what it was, after a while my
sister took me to the bathroom and explained me everything that’s when i started to
cry like my eyes were raining.I couldn’t stop.

12. ✘ Other memorie is when i was around 8 or 9 yeras old. My
mother told us that she was pregnant, all our family was
very happy and anxious about it, but months later
something happened. One normal day my father came to
pick up me and my sister to have lunch, that was wierd
because mom always looked for us, but we did not care
about it, maybe we were going to a restaurant, but
nothing like that. We look for mom, she was in her
bedroom, crying in her bed like never in her life. Seconds
later my dad started crying too, so we asked what was
happening, and that was when they told us that mom
had lost the baby. It was a very sad week, but 1or 2 years
later Manuela came to our lives.
