- A question many school districts, teachers, administrators and parents often ask themselves at some point….Why technology? Today is an ever growing Digital World. In today’s presentation, I will be highlighting some of the key points to answer the question….Why Technology? Displaying why technology is important in our schools and lives.

- I have a short video for everyone we are going to watch. It is entitled Digital World: Teachers Today. The video displays what teachers today try to accomplish in their work environment. You will see some distinct words in the video about what teachers strive for everyday with education. WATCH VIDEO.
- Our world today is an ever growing technology and digital age. We must embrace change and use the new technologies out there to extend the possibilities and excite our learners. Student achievement and engagement is something teachers strive for each and every day to help students grow and become more successful. We want students to improve, be creative, and develop their own voice. Technology is an easy tool to assist with students’ achievement and success. So why should technology be a part of the curriculum and student and teacher learning? Next Slide

- There are multiple types of software students are able to experiment with. Some of the music technologies and software I am familiar with and use in my music classroom are smart music, singing challenge, ipods, final, print music. Music allows itself well for incorporating technology into the classroom. A Second main reason students demonstrate higher levels of motivation and engagement is because often from different technologies the students receives instant feedback which allows students to really track their success. Teachers don’t have to do much for motivating students with technology use besides knowing how to operate it. Technology is exciting so students are naturally more engaged and motivated already. Technology also allows for differentiated instruction in the classroom. Lastly, technology resources are extremely visually interesting for the student. (Harvey-Woodhall, A. 2009)

- -Using technology and understanding technology allows students for career preparation -It also prepares them and gives them experience in working in groups, problem solving, collecting, analyzing, and organizing. Many applications of technology and software are used in the world of work including word processors, spreadsheets, and internet. Most importantly technology allows for continuous learning which is something we must all be prepared for. ( Cradler, J., McNabb, M., Freeman, M., & Burchett, R., 2002)
- We work in a fast paced world and must work together to achieve success. Integrating technology into the classroom learning is one way we can do this. Our opportunities are endless for learning and technology is the perfect way to achieve this. We must challenge ourselves to learn and be prepared for the future. Embrace change and new technologies. I would like to leave today with this quote by John Dewey. “If we teach today as we taught yesterday, we rob our children of tomorrow.”
