As part of our participation in Open Education Week 2019, @OpenEdEdinburgh ran a one-hour workshop to explore what it means to decolonise and diversify the curriculum with our EUSA VP of Education Diva Mukherji.
The session also provided a look at how creating, using, and sharing open educational resources (OER) can be one avenue towards diversifying and opening up curriculum materials with OER advisor Stephanie (Charlie) Farley.

Trade Union Freedom Fact Sheet Cnv InternationaalCNV Vakcentrale
The right to organise in trade unions is a fundamental labour and human right. Yet, in many countries, workers attempt many barriers to organizing. Although the right to organise in trade unions is a fundamental labour and human right. This is usually referred to as: The right to free association in trade unions. Additionally, every individual has the right to collective bargaining over employment conditions. These rights are laid down in national and international legislation and regulations. Such as the International Labour Organization (ILO) conventions, or OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises.
Engaging in a meaningful dialogue
Why is trade union freedom so important? First, to improve labour conditions it is crucial to engage in a meaningful dialogue on factory, sectoral, and even national level. On behalf of their members. Independent trade unions negotiate with employers or their representatives on collective employment conditions, which subsequently are laid down in collective labour agreements. Such working conditions may refer to salary, remuneration, working hours and rest periods. Usually, individuals are not able to reach such agreements, where trade unions are successful.
This fact sheet has been developed for the WellMade project, a project designed to provide both people working in European fashion brands as well as procurement officers within companies and organisations with an understanding of the most important labour issues in the supply chain.

Educación Movil y TICS Para El Desarrollo (ICT4D) - Proyecto PilotoAlfonso Sintjago

Augmented Reality and Education - Infographic (Leapfrog Initiatives)Alfonso Sintjago
Augmented reality (AR) technology is the result of using convergence technology to greatly expand our functional reality, i.e. that which is in our expanded environment, that we know about, and that we are able to act on. The technologies making this possible include, smartphones, GPS, phone cameras, always-on and always-available data networks, etc. A crude, but widespread, example of AR technology is Google Maps. Google Maps makes it possible for us to know about places of interest that are in our environment, or an environment relevant to us, far beyond that which our biological senses can reveal. Other examples include the services provided by apps such as Layars and Wikitude that provide detailed data on objects that we experience, Google’s recently released AR game, Ingress, among many other projects. AR is likely to be one of the most transformative technological developments that we will see over the next decade because it radically changes the world that we live in, how we perceive that world, and how we interact with it and other individuals in it. With affordable HUD displays (ex. Google Glass) this technology will take on a whole other dimension.
Robotics and Education - Infographic (Leapfrog Initiatives)Alfonso Sintjago
Robotics have reached a level of sophistication that it is wholly reasonable to start seeing them in a range of environments where they will interact with humans. The classroom is no exception. In fact, remote controlled robots have already been introduced in classrooms in South Korea and Japan. In South Korea robots are used in primary school classrooms to teach English (Learn more about EngKey). Some of these educational robots are remote controlled by teachers operating out of the Philippine Islands. In Japan, there are known instances where teachers have used remote controlled robots to teach courses in classrooms far away from where they live (E.g. Hiroshi Ishiguro). There are a range of tasks that robots can take over in classrooms, ranging from classroom management to engaging students. With the development of other related technologies, such as artificial intelligence, robots can conceivably even become involved in instruction itself.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

The Budapest Open Access
Initiative (BOAI) is a public statement
of principles relating to open access to
the research literature. It arose from a
conference convened in Budapest by
the Open Society Institute on
December 1–2, 2001 to promote open
access – at the time also known
as Free Online Scholarship.
It was estimated that there
were around 19,500 articles
published OA in 2000, while
the number has grown to
191,850 articles in 2009.

8. While we are expected to build on the achievement of past giants, without having
access to their research we may not be aware of all that has come before us. We
might not be able to include their work as a reference, and end up merely
duplicating previously published findings, instead of investing our time and effort
to explore cutting edge issues and produce new knowledge that would build upon
their work and be helpful for all of humanity.
