Tit 2:11-14 For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.
This week we looked at several verses that were associated with the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. In this weeks teaching I compressed them all into one single powerpoint for your convenience. Over the next few weeks I will be taking you through Genesis Chapter One and the Creation Week. So fasten your seat belts cause on Monday we are starting right at the beginning with Genesis 1:1.

BLC Sermon - Who do you say I am? - 20110815 Leigh Wong
The very first sermon I delivered at Bangsar Lutheran Church. Based on the week's Lectionary readings, I explored how we could possibly answer Jesus when He asks us, "Who do you say I am?"

Miracle on 34th St is all about faith. Kris Kringle claims to be Santa Claus and that claim lands him in a courthouse, on trial to see whether he really is who he says he is. The question is, do you believe? In this sermon we're going to put Jesus on trial... what did he claim about himself? And, can we believe it? And if he is who he says he is, what does that mean for us?

Act 1:8 "But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth."
Mt 13:15 For the hearts of this people have grown dull. Their ears are hard of hearing, And their eyes they have closed, Lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, Lest they should understand with their hearts and turn, So that I should heal them.'
Act 20:35 "I have shown you in every way, by laboring like this, that you must support the weak. And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, 'It is more blessed to give than to receive."
Rom 8:5-8 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God.
Rom 12:1 I appeal to you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.
Act 17:11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.
Heb 2:3 how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation, which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed to us by those who heard Him.
Jn 12:42-43 Nevertheless even among the rulers many believed in Him, but because of the Pharisees they did not confess Him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue; for they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.
Col 3:1-2 If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.
Mt 17:20 So Jesus said to them, "Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.

Slide 2: Introduction to Mindfulness
Mindfulness, defined as the conscious, non-judgmental observation of the present moment, has deep roots in Buddhist meditation practice but has gained significant popularity in the Western world in recent years. In today's society, filled with distractions and constant stimuli, mindfulness offers a valuable tool for regaining inner peace and reconnecting with our true selves. In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

Who is Jesus to you?
1.
2.
3. Who am I?
I am a 5 letter word, If all 5 letters
are available I am a talent in you, If
you remove my first letter I will die,
if you remove my first 2 letters I will
be sick. Who am I
Skill
4. Who Is Jesus To You?
Mt 16:13, 15 When Jesus came
into the region of Caesarea
Philippi, He asked His disciples,
saying, "Who do men say that I,
the Son of Man, am?" He said to
them, "But who do you say that
I am?"
5.
6. I. Answer from Humanity!
(Mt. 16:13-14)
▪ Four answers are given!
▸John the Baptist (cf. Mt. 3:1-6;11:9-10)
▸Elijah
▸Jeremiah
▸One of the prophets
▪ It is often that we associate what we don't
understand with what we do!
▸Jesus was a godly Man, a prophet, but also so
much more than that!
–Mt. 1:18-25
7. Even today, many have different
opinions about Jesus!
▪ Some still say He was “just” a good man!
▪ Some “just” a prophet!
▪ Yet, some that He was and is the Savior!
▪ There has always been and always will be
many answers from humanity as to who Jesus
is!
▸He was a good man!
▸He was a prophet!
▸But, He was also so much more than that!
8. II. Answer from Heaven!
(Mt. 16:15-17)
▪ The first, who do men say that I am? The
second, who do you say that I am?
▪ It would indeed do us good to remember
that men are often wrong!
▸Pr. 14:12; 16:25
▸Jer. 10:23
▸Is. 55:8-9
▪ There are many wrong answers, but only
one right answer!
9. We will have to draw our conclusion
from one of two sources!
Either God or man!
▪ Humanity’s answer was quite different from
heaven’s answer!
▸Mt 3:17 And suddenly a voice came from
heaven, saying, "This is My beloved Son, in
whom I am well pleased." (Cf. Jn. 5:18)
▸Mt 17:5 While he was still speaking, behold, a
bright cloud overshadowed them; and suddenly a
voice came out of the cloud, saying, "This is My
beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear
Him!"
10. III. Answer from our Hearts!
▪ The question remains, how will we answer
this most important question?
▪ Who is Jesus to you, who is He to me?
▪ Do I know Him only as a man, only as a
prophet or as Lord of my life?
▸This is a question that each of us must
answer for ourselves!
▪ Do I know Him as “God with us?” As the
“Savior of the world” and the “only way!”
11. “A man who was merely a man and said the
short of things Jesus said would not be a
great moral teacher. He would either be a
lunatic on the level with a man who said he
was a poached egg or he would be the devil
of hell himself. You must take your choice,
either this was, and is, the Son of God, or
else a madman or something worse. You
can shut Him up as a fool or you can fall at
His feet and call Him Lord and God, but let
us not come with any nonsense about Him
being a great human teacher, He has not left
that open to us!” C.S. Lewis
12. Conclusion:
▪ This is in fact one of the most important
questions we could ever consider!
▪ The answer to this question, could and
should greatly influence the way we live our
lives!
▪ I hope that we will leave here today better
understanding why this question is so
important for us to both ask and answer!
▪ If you are here and not yet a Christian, then
today is the day, tomorrow maybe too late!
