Through completing the preliminary editing task and final film opening task, the document's author learned much about filmmaking techniques. The preliminary task helped them become more aware of shot types, matching actions, and using different camera angles. It also taught them to plan shots carefully and have backup equipment, as they missed a key shot during the preliminary task. - 1. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why? We thought long and hard about why institution would distribute our film and why, there were many factors to take in to consideration like what other films they distribute and how successful they were. In the end we chose ‘DreamWorks’ to distribute our film for many reasons, the main reason way that is also distributed our inspiration to our film opening ‘The Ring’ and ‘The Ring Two’ It has also distributed many other films in all different genres, films like Shrek, shark tale, war horse and saving private Ryan . DreamWorks is also a very well known companyso some people may be attracted to the films because of the production company.It was founded by Steven Spielberg. The colour theme of the logo is blue and white, with the words ‘Dreamworks’ in a softish font with sharp edges, in a large size with letters al in capitals. There are also clouds around it, which indicates you are up in the sky. Also when they were producing the ring they changed the title at the start of the film from the normal standard DreamWorks production logo to a special horror scary themed logo. This is when the colour theme changed from blue and white to green and black to make it more to the conventions of horror films. This is the one that we used at the beginning of our horror film opening. We placed it right at the beginning, as there is where it is commonly placed. We have also thought up and made our own media Institution/production Company called ‘Paranormal Pictures’. We came up with this name as it paranormal can be classed as a horror word and is used in the horror genre and could be used to describe a sub genre of a film. We then teamed it up with the word picture to create the company, also this uses alliteration so the words roll of the tongue easily. We decided our company would be mainly distributing films of the horror genre, as that genre connects with the name so an audience would realize that if paranormal pictures distributed it is would be a horror film. so we decided as our logo we would have the sound of white noise coming from a tv while the screen would show a fuzzy tv screen with white noise one and ‘paranormal pictures’ sliding across in black sharp capital letters. We thought this was appropriate as white noise could be a convention of horror films as it is featured in some of them like The Ring and there is even a horror and thriller film called white noise. Also the sound of it is quite piercing which could make the audience feel uneasy right from the beginning.
- 2. We want our film to be distributed worldwide so it will generate a bigger audience and become more well known. Also because most horror films are American so our film would be different and may appeal to more people as it is a britsh horror film. Whiledoing research we also looked in to the institution ‘twisted pictures’ that only specialize in horror films, yet while this would appeal to use as we are doing horror films we thought there particular films were too gory as we wanted our film to have the sub genre of psychological as that showed up as being most popular from our market research.
