2. One particular aspect that made us creative during our AS coursework was the fact we steered away from too
many stereotypes. We kept some familiarity for audiences to recognise however, we wanted our work to have its
own unique style as much as possible.
Similarly, some aspects that made our work original was the fact we considered age, ethnicity, gender and class of
our actors when creating our coursework. Thus, we used an atypical female protagonist of Indian decent instead of
the generic white female.
The film Black Swan is the main media text that influenced us when we were planning. This is due to the titles
being very similar to the ones we used (black background, white writing) as well as some similar camera angles
and shots also used in the films opening. However, most importantly, the biggest influence was the fact we too
chose to use a stereotypically weak female protagonist in our piece similar to the mentally weak female protagonist
in Black Swan. Another text that influenced us was the film Taken. Taken influenced our narrative and when we
were planning we discussed using a similar idea of one family member searching for a missing family member. For
example, in Taken the dad searches for his daughter and in our coursework the daughter is searching for her
brother.
Technology helped us create the product we imagined because firstly, the camera allowed us to capture our
desired imagery such as close up shots of our protagonists face to capture her facial expression. Moreover, sound
recording equipment allowed us to capture any sound or voice recording we wished. Then finally, the editing
software allowed us to piece together our work through sequencing and adding transitions and titles.
