As for high rise buildings, these are generally above six floors or stories in height. Also, most high rise buildings are 100 meters in height. (These should not be confused with “skyscrapers,” which are generally much taller, as little or as much, as 200 meters in height.
A high-rise building is a tall building, as opposed to a low-rise building and is defined differently in terms of height depending on the jurisdiction. It is used as a residential, office building, or other functions including hotel, retail, or with multiple purposes combined.

Earthquake-resistant structures are structures designed to protect buildings to some or greater extent from earthquakes. While no structure can be entirely immune to damage from earthquakes, the goal of earthquake-resistant construction is to erect structures that fare better during seismic activity than their conventional counterparts. According to building codes, earthquake-resistant structures are intended to withstand the largest earthquake of a certain probability that is likely to occur at their location. This means the loss of life should be minimized by preventing the collapse of the buildings for rare earthquakes while the loss of the functionality should be limited for more frequent ones

Working & Type of Systems Involved in Electric Floor Heating: Access to Radia...SteveMartin377218
Electrical Floor Heating, otherwise known as underfloor heating, is a kind of central heating & cooling often meant to achieve indoor climate control for thermal control by using an electrical heating element or Hydronic. These materials are embedded inside the floor. By using this electrical floor heating, heat is achieved by conduction, convection, and radiation.

Sunrooms are built to permit daylight and warmth into the space, yet can be awkward amid cooler months without a supplemental source of warmth. Expanding your home heating vents, introducing a baseboard or underfloor warming framework or acquiring a space radiator can help warm your sunroom, making it usable year-round.
1. Cooling load calculation-conduction through exterior walls, roo.pdfannaistrvlr
1. Cooling load calculation-
conduction through exterior walls, roof and glass-
The exterior walls of the room gain heat from the sun by the way of conduction. The amount of
heat depends on the wall material and its allignment with respect to the sun.If the wall is exposed
in wset direction it will gain maximum heat during 2 to 5 pm.The heat gained by the wall facing
north direction is the least.
The glass(windows) of the room are directly exposed to the surroundings and the heat enters the
room through glass (windows) by the way of radiation. The heat gained by the room through
windows depends on their alignmment. If there are curtains on the windows the heat gained by
radiation reduces.
If the roof is directly exposed to the sun it absorbs maximum heat.
Conduction through interior partings, ceilings and floor-
The heat gained by partition of the room depends on the type of partition.
People-
The people inside the room generate heat. the heat dissipated by working people is more than by
sitting people.
Equipments and appliances-
Heat is generated by electrical appliances like lights, motors, coffee-makers, electronic
equipments should be considered for heat load calculations.
Heat from infiltration of outside air through and openings-
Outside air is normally at a greater temperature than the room temperature. when this air comes
inside the room it brings certain amount of heat with it.
2. Equipment Selection-
chiller-
the chiller types of central air conditioning plants are installed in the places where large
buildings, shopping mall, hotel, etc. including several floors are to be air conditioned. While in
the direct expansion type of central air condtioning plant , refrigerant is directly used to cool the
room air. In the chilled water plants the refrigerant first chills the water which in turn chills the
room air. In chilled water plant, the ordinary water or brine solution is chilled to a very low
temperature of about 6 to 8 degree celcius by the refrigerant plant. this chilled water is pumped
to varioous floors of the building. In each of these floors air handling units are installed which
comprises of cooling coil, blower and ducts. the air passes over the cooling coil and gets cooled
and is then passed to the air conditioned space
Pump-
The heat pumps operate on a reverse vapour compression cycle also called as reverse
refrigeration cycle. The main function of heat pump is to heat the room when the atmospheric
temperature is very low. In heat pump, the evaporator is located outside the room which is to be
heated. The evaporator absorbs the heat from the atmosphere which is at lower temperature. The
condenser serves the main function of heating the room and is placed inside the room to be
heated.
Air-handling unit- Air-handling units are used for applications like big hotels, large buildings
having multiple floors, where very high cooling loads are required. The window and split-air are
used for small rooms or small office spaces. If the.

Different physical processes for providing thermal comfort for passive buildings include solar radiation, long‐wave radiation exchange, radiative cooling, and evaporative cooling. Solar radiation and radiative cooling are the processes used for both thermal heating and cooling purposes
2. Cost-Effective Radiant Floor Heating
Keeps You Warmer
Radiant floor heating systems supply heat directly to the floor of a
building. The heat emanates from the floor, warming the air in the
room. Think of the way the sun warms a sidewalk: You can feel the
heat rising off the concrete. This is radiant heating.
3. Cost-Effective Radiant Floor Heating
Keeps You Warmer
Radiant heat systems are especially useful in
homes with high ceilings and large rooms,
since the heat from traditional forced-air
systems rises and leaves the lower portion of
the room chilly. Radiant heat, by contrast,
rises from the floor and warms any solid
object it comes into contact with, from
furniture to people. There are three types of
radiant heating systems for floors: Hydronic,
electric and air.
4. Air-Heated Radiant Systems
Air-heated radiant floor systems pump hot air through
ducts beneath the floor, warming the floor as it passes.
Since air doesn't hold much heat, air-heated radiant floor
systems are not generally used in residential buildings.
5. Electric Radiant Systems
Electric radiant floor systems use electric heating cables
or conductive plastic mats built into the floor. They are best
used with floors that have a large thermal mass, such as
concrete, due to the potential high cost of the electricity
required to heat floors with smaller thermal masses.
However, for those who live in an area where time-of-use
rates are offered by the electric company, electric systems
are fairly cost-effective. The user can "charge" the floor
during off-peak hours and turn the system off during the
peak hours.
6. Hydronic Radiant Systems
Hydronic radiant systems
pump boiler-heated water
through tubes lying just below
the surface of the floor. The
most cost-effective of the three
types of systems, hydronic
radiant floor heaters can be
installed in zones and
controlled by a thermostat,
allowing the homeowner to
control the heat room by room.
7. Installation of Radiant Floor Heating
The two types of installation for radiant floor systems
are wet installation and dry installation. Wet installation
involves embedding the cables, mats or tubing into a thick
concrete slab or a thin concrete subfloor. For dry
installation, the cables, mats or tubing are installed in the
pocket of air under the floor. While dry installation is less
expensive than wet installation, the system needs to be run
at a higher temperature in order to effectively heat the air
surrounding the conduit.
8. Floor Coverings
Virtually any type of floor can be installed over a radiant
floor heating system. Ceramic tile is the best option for
optimal heat due to its excellent heat conducting
capabilities. Carpet is the least desirable covering because
it insulates the floor from the room and requires more
energy to heat. Thin carpets are more effective with this
kind of system than thick ones; the padding should be as
dense as possible. Wood floors conduct the heat fairly well,
but laminate wood flooring is preferable over solid wood,
which can dry out from the heat and shrink or crack.
9. Benefits of Radiant Floor Heat
-Radiant floors are ideal for those with allergies or asthma.
Since there's no air blowing allergens from the ducts into the
room, the air quality is better with radiant heating.
-Energy costs are lower with radiant heat. Because the heat is
concentrated in the lower half of the room, you can set the
thermostat up to 4 degrees lower, saving 10 to 30 percent on
your heating bill.
-Radiant floor heaters keep you warmer. The cold spots found
with forced-air furnaces are virtually nonexistent with radiant
heating.
