The Ethics Of Energy And Environment
When I was a kid,I saw a show in which a criminal investigator caught the murderer by
performing some chemical tests on a small amount of liquid left at the crime scene. What
fascinated me the most about this incident was the magical way in which answers could be found
from seemingly ordinary objects by using a few reagents. I became a regular follower of such
shows and thus began my love for Chemistry. During my undergraduate studies, I discovered that
Analytical Chemistryformed the backbone of these so called magical techniques, which further
influenced me to get a higher degree in Analytical Chemistry. Another topic that gave me inspiration
toward chemistry was sustainability of energy and environment. Being a citizen of a developing
country, I observed energy crisis and environmental pollution first hand. I want to contribute to
solve this problem by pursuing higher studies in Environmental chemistry, as it will enable me to
use my intellectual potentials for the betterment of the environment and in turn the society.
My past academic accomplishments bear a testament of my future endeavors. I achieved the GPA
of 5.00 in the scale of 5.00 in both the secondary and higher secondary studies. The desire for an
exhilarating career in the field of chemistry motivated me to apply to the department of Applied
Chemistry
Chemical Engineering, University of Dhaka, which is the oldest and most prestigious university in
Bangladesh. The program had a well structured and comprehensive

Prendick s Journey
Adventure of a Lifetime An old proverb says: A good friend listens to your adventures. A best
friend makes them with you. H.G. Well s book The Island of Dr. Moreau depicts Prendick s
journey as a roller coaster ride. Montgomery, an assistant of Moreau, saved Prendick s life and
welcomed him to the unknown island. By openly conversing, they both discovered their shared
interest in science. After living and experiencing the different aspects of the island, Prendick finds
out that Moreau performs vivisection, which is the practice of doing dissections on live animals for
the purpose of research and experimentation. Convinced that he will be next in line, Prendick
attempts suicide. Moreau and Montgomery wondered why Prendick would do this... Show more

While being led to the corpse of Moreau, Prendick and Montgomery were mortified and in
disbelief. While on an adventure through the woods with Montgomery, Prendick came across a
creature that was stalking him. They both avoided eye contact with the animal creature, walking
towards the shore of the island. Montgomery said, What s the good of getting away? I m an outcast
(82). Montgomery could relate to some of the qualities and experiences that Prendick went through.
He felt like society did not accept him for who was because of his beliefs. He knew that people,
mostly the beasts would judge him. Building a stronger, more compassionate friendship with
Prendick made him open up about the different things about the island and how he felt. Talking to
Montgomery more about the beast creatures, Prendick said, In spite of their increased intelligence,
and the tendency of their animal instincts to reawaken, they had certain Fixed Ideas implanted by
Moreau in their minds which absolutely bounded their imaginations (61 62). Prendick initially was
intimidated by the numerous amount of animals around the island because he was not familiar with
the culture and life of living on an island. Since talking with Montgomery helped him cope with his
fears of walking in the woods. Since Montgomery introduced the different facts and background
information about the beast creatures, Prendick was able to notice extraordinary aspects about
them. From an unwillingness to make eye contact, to listing distinct facts about each creature that
he saw, Prendick proved that fear does not last

Julius Caesar Speech Analysis
He would be crowned: How that might change his nature, there s the question. It is the bright day
that brings forth the adder,...And therefore think him as a serpent s egg, which hatched, would, as
his kind, grow mischievous, And kill in the shell, (Brutus, Julius Caesar, Act 2, Scene 1 and Act 1,
Scene 12 15). Brutus s cowardly actions and impulsive decision to act saved Rome from a future
tyrant who would rule Rome for future years to come. On March 15th, 44 B.C., fearsome Roman
politician and dictator, Julius Caesar, breathed his last breath in the monumental city of Rome,
Italy. Surround by Roman senators, Caesar presented a self focused speech. Behind his
assassination stood one powerful man; Marcus Brutus. Brutus, alongside many Roman senators,
contributed to the murder of the dictator, by being the last to stab him to death. Brutus joined the
conspiracy precisely because he feared how a crown might transform Caesar. In his last words,
Caesar is unknowingly defending himself against Brutus s fears. Despite the pompousness, Caesar
s comparison to the star is accurate; he is the center around which the Roman world revolves, the
cornerstone and pillar of the edifice of the empire. Shaking him down endangers the whole,
(Brightest Heaven of Invention, pg.95). Minutes before the first dagger reaches Caesar s skin, he
explains to the group of men how he is similar to an unchangeable north star, which was known to
be a symbolism of a great ruler. Furthermore, Brutus

The U.P. Apartment Act- Your Rights and Responsibilities...
U.P. Apartment Act Your Rights and Responsibilities
When an act is passed in the interest of people, do they always get its benefit? One of the notable
stories answering the question is that of the U.P. Apartment Act, 2010. The act was passed during
the BSP Government and was meant to protect the property buyers from the malpractices of the
builders. But the developers, joining hands with the authority, are not complying with the rules
notified by the act.
One of the major case was that of Supertech Limited for violating the rules related to the floor area
ratio. Floor Area Ratio (FAR) is the ratio of a building s total floor area to the total area to the plot
on which it is erected. It is fixed beforehand by the competent authorities. ... Show more content on

Such cases of fraud with the property buyers and breach of laws come popping up in our country
every now and then. And in this trap, the burden of loss is heaviest on the buyers shoulders. Laws
have been made but what requires more concern is the strict implementation of these rules and
regulation. So it is your responsibility to know your rights and responsibilities.
Builder s Responsibilities:
The act requires the builders to disclose all relevant information to the property buyers. It
mandates them to disclose the original map showing property layout plan as approved by the
authority. The builder has to cite a likely date for the delivery of the project and also the
procedure and penalty in case of delay. Other information that has to be disclosed by the builder to
the buyer include land titles, type of fixtures and appliances used in the building, ownership details
and remedies in case of flaws.
Buyer s Responsibilities:
The U.P. Apartment Act puts pressure on the buyers too. It requires the buyers to pay the
installments on time and imposes penalties in case of its non payment. The buyers are also
required to form an owners association to monitor the regular activities related to the project. The
builder will have to take the consent of all members of the association before modifying the layout
or making other alterations.
Buyers stand to lose a lot when it comes to such breaches. So it is entirely into your hands whether
you are going to

Feminism Throughout The Decades
Fight for Your Rights: Feminism Throughout the Decades
Women have historically had a rocky relationship with governmental, cultural, religious, and social
rights. The Women s Rights movement has been in effect since approximately 1792, with the
publication of the first feminist work, A Vindication of the Rights of Woman
, by British writer Mary
Wollstonecraft ( Women s Rights Movement ). While social changes have occurred and more
progressive laws have been put into place throughout the years, there is still not equality between
the sexes. Additionally, genderroles in different countries differ greatly. The purpose of this paper
is to highlight the major causes and concerns of the Women s Rights movements throughout the
decades, as well as denote the differences between more progressive societies and their less
accepting counterparts.
There have been many causes that lead to the Women s Rights movement. Though the focus of
these movements have progressed with time and brought about different waves, the primary cause
that initiated the need for the Women s Rights movement was simply the fact that women were
historically considered second class citizens. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

A Day Through Deaf Person s Eyes
A Day Through a Deaf Person s Eyes portrays the daily struggles deaf people must endure
constantly. The movie accurately emphasizes the reactions of hearing people to the deaf
community during interactions such as with the police officer and the cashier at the restaurant. I
learned that deaf people must be approached or interacted with via vibrations or touch to gain their
attention, and that this impairment sometimes makes hearing people offended if they do not know
the other person is not simply ignoring them, but rather that they are deaf. I also learned that
hearing people are made uncomfortable because of the general lack of knowledge about
communicationwith deaf people during interactions and do not readily acknowledge that the

The Case Of The American Legal System
The question what is law?, is important to understand law and to the extent to which particular
institutions have been accorded power to make or pronounce law. It is important for lawyers,
policymakers, politicians and those working in the field of social science academia to understand
that the meaning and the scope of law exceeds the basic premises of assumption that law is what
the legislature passes as a statute, or law is what a court applies, etc. because that is the way our
political order is constructed, etc. Since laws takes various forms, a legal system is needed to
interpret and enforce the law in the society through the procedures or process from the systematic
nature of law and the examination of the presuppositions and... Show more content on

Madison exemplifies that understanding . Since the US legal system is based on federalism. The
Tenth Amendment of the U.S constitution shift the power and legal authority away from the states
and towards the federal government. The federal government gains more power over the state but
there is a certain jurisdiction of boundaries that the federal can exercise their power over the state.
The law deals with the fundamental principles by which the federal government exercises its
authority. In the American constitutional system, the authority of government is defined, limited,
and distributed by the fundamental law of the United States Constitution. The U.S constitution is a
body of written basic law and is superior to and takes precedence over all ordinary acts of Congress
and state legislatures and over all decision and actions of the executive branches of the national and
state government. That s why it divides the national government into three branches legislative,
executive and judicial. This will separate the power of the branches of the government and at the
same time check and balances the actions of other branches. Constitution law is most often
associated with fundamental rights like equal protection, the right to bear arms, freedom of religion

History Of The Internet Essay example
The year is 1957 and the USSR has just launched the first artificial earth satellite. In response
America launches the Advanced Research Projects
Agency (ARPA) within the Department of Defense (DOD) to create America s lead in science and
technology. The Internet had its humble beginnings here, within ARPA s many projects.
The Internet has become one of the key symbols of today s pop culture: everything has a dot com
address; people do not say call me, but instead its
I ll E mail you; and the new word on the stock market is E business. The
Internet has not always been such a key figure in American life; in fact it was mostly unheard of
until recently.

The final problem that ARPAnet came across was the fact that most computers did not run exactly
the same hardware or software as another. Their solution to this was to build smaller computers
(called Interface Message
Processors or IMPs) that were in direct contact with the main computer and also in connection with
the other IMPs on the network. All of the IMPs were built to the same specifications so that one
could easily communicate with the other5.
In 1968 all three of these developments were put into action when ARPA sent out proposals and
requests for contractors. Bolt, Beranek, and Newman,
Inc. (BBN) were awarded the contract to build the IMPs, University of California,
Los Angeles (UCLA) was awarded the Network Measurement Center contract, and the Network
Working Group (NWG) was formed to develop host protocols for the soon to be developed
ARPAnet. Nodes are set up as soon as BBN builds the IMP for that location. The first node was at
UCLA and installed on
August 30, 1969. It was the Network Measurement center and ran on the SDS

In Section 3 we discuss empirical implementation. We present the results of the decomposition for
the Indian income tax in Section 4. Section 5 concludes. 2. Decomposing Income Tax Revenue
Changes Before formally setting out the decomposition, we explain its logic. Comparisons of
revenue performance are made with a pre selected (here pre reform) base year. In order to examine
revenue loss, we define potential revenue at base year tax rates as the revenue that would obtain
in the absence of base erosion due to deductions and evasion, if the base year tax rate structure
was in operation. Conceptually, to arrive at potential revenue we tax potential DECOMPOSING
REVENUE EFFECTS 179 income, which we take as given.6 Deductions and exclusions (other
than for costs of earning income) cause taxable income to be narrower than potential income. Due
to tax evasion by, for example, failing to п¬Ѓle a return, understating receipts or overstating
expenses, potential income itself may not be fully revealed to tax authorities. What the
decomposition analysis does is to separate the difference between potential revenue and revenue
actually collected in any year into components reflecting losses due to tax schedule changes, base
erosion, and evasion. Potential revenues will, however, differ across years, even if the tax schedule
is unchanged, due to changes in aggregate income and its distribution. To account for this, we
normalize the difference

The Consequences Of Air Pollution
Air pollution is a global issue that the community should act upon to prevent any further
consequences. Air pollution is caused by toxic chemicals in the air. The essential wellsprings of
pollution are heaters in processing plants, motors in vehicles and the consuming of junk. Air
Pollution is a hurtful substance to the air that brings harm to the Earth and human wellbeing. Some
air pollutions come back to earth as acidic rain, which it can harm crops, and make streams harmful
for other plant and creature life. Haze is another outcome from air pollution, which is destructive to
people. Global warmingcan likely be a reason, because of air pollutions, which makes the earth
temperature increase. Air pollution is a global issue that concerns the environment because it can
negatively affect the health of the environment, cause global warming, as well as acidification. If
everyone lets this event continue, then it can affect the wellbeing of the environment and the
individuals around it.
Air pollution can drastically affect the health of the environment in various ways that can affect the
quality of life of individuals. For example, ground level ozone is a colorless gas that is formed when
nitrogen oxides volatile organic compounds react in the sun. This ozone is the reason why there is
smog. Air pollution causes exhaustion of the ozone layer, which permits a more prominent number
of bright beams to earth, that can be destructive for people. This issue affects not only human

Socrates And Louis Riel
Throughout history, great minds have used situational platforms like trials to advance their ideas
to large audiences. Socrates and Louis Riel are no exception to this and used their respected trials
as a means of conveying a final political statement. This is evident in both Plato s The Trial and
Death of Socratesand Hans V. Hansen s Reil s Defense: Perspectives on his Speeches. Both men s
speeches can be seen as weak examples of forensic rhetoricand strong examples of political
rhetoric due to the fact that Socrates and Riel both believed in a divine mission and cause much
larger than themselves. It is clear that neither man set out to win their trial, and I argue that both
Socrates and Riel s speeches were intended to politically inspire as they both saw themselves as
martyrs for a greater cause.
Socrates trial speech can be considered one of the most important examples of political rhetoric in
history. Socrates was brought before the courts on charges of impiety and corrupting the youth of
Athens because of his teachings and the politico philosophic questions he posed to his students. At
the time Socrates was 70 and could have easily fled Athens with the help of his supporters however
he chose to stay in Athens to face the legal consequences of his actions. Socrates had no intention of
winning his trial, as Brumbaugh notes Socrates was not arrested [...] but was summoned to the
court of the First Archon to file his answer to the charges against him (pg.232,

The Bird And The Happiest Bird
The Crow and the Peacock
Once there was a crow, who lived a happy and satisfied life in his village. One day the crow was
flying along when he saw a beautiful white swan. Seeing the swan he thought, This swan is so
bright and I am so dark. He must be the happiest bird in the world When the crow said this to the
swan, the swan said, I used to think that I was the happiest bird too until I saw a parrot. The parrot
has 2 colors while I just have one. So he must be the happiest bird. Taking the swan s advice the
crow went and started looking for a parrot. After a few days of looking the crow finally found
him. The crow told the parrot about what the swan had told him. The parrot responded by
saying, I used to think that I was the happiest bird in the world as well until I saw a peacock. I
just have 2 colors, whereas, the peacock has multiple colors, so it must be the happiest bird. As a
result of listening to the swan s and the parrot s thoughts the crow decided to find out if the
peacock was truly the happiest bird. Immediately the crow set of to find a peacock. He searched
for days and nights looking for the peacock. There were huge crowds gathering around the peacock
s cage. At first the crow thought that the crowds would go away, but the longer waited he realized
that the crowds would never end. The crow tried getting through the crowd but it was too thick.

Functionalist Theory In Sports Analysis
When the topic of functionalist theory was being taught in class, it reminded me of an article I
read a couple of years ago about Denver Nuggest s center Kosta Koufos. For most of the 2012
2013 season Koufos was a benchwarmer and towards the end of the season was when he started to
shine as a player. When he was asked about his success on the court, Koufos replied, the biggest
thing is just to play within the system, most important, the team is winning games. We re playing
well as a team right now. Functionalist theory is about building a system whose parts work together
to promote harmony and stability. In sports, just like some coaches out there, I believe sports are all

Napoleon and Castro Helped to Change the World Into Which...
Politics shape the world we live in, and to change the world we live in requires a special people,
for example Napoleon Bonaparte and Fidel Castro. These two men are some of few who took the
world they were born into and changed it dramatically, but how exactly did they go about doing
that?
Fidel Castro was born a bastard child, his father an immigrant from northwestern Spain, and raised
on a farm which his father led to success. Fidel was sent to a public school where he was
reprimanded for misbehaving and was sent to a prestigious private Catholic school.

Literature Review Of Globalization
Up to now the literature review has given an insight into the concept of globalization, and the
understanding of several academics in the light of how this phenomenon developed over the years.
It is then essential to cover what the economic benefits of globalization are, and how these may
impact a sector or company. Most of the literature study s that have been written on the economic
benefits of globalizationhave been after 2006. The reason is because the studies used the
globalization index which was created by Dreher (2006) then further developed by Dreher (2008)
again. Many of the empirical studies used this index as indicator as a base to form their findings.

He goes on to imply that business must make global strategies that would involve making
investments in as much countries as possible. Rajdeep, Murali Robert (2008) agrees with Tallman,
as he extends his view that these strategies must become more flexible and effective to comply with
needs of the changing environment.
The perspective of Driffield and Karoglou (2016) on this issue, discuss that the biggest restriction to
free trade and globalization is uncertainty. Therefore, many organizations will hinder when it comes
making strategic choices about their financial states. Subsequently they derive that one of the most
positive impacts that has occurred because globalization is the creation of the free market. They
say that the creation of this market has made it easier for organization in the car industry to easily
import and export the good that they require from other border countries.
Impact on employment
Furthermore, there is also literature written on the impact free trade has on the gears of an
economic state. One of the components is the effects on employment, and how the free movement
of goods has impacted on this section. Bassanini and Duval 2006 derive from their works that there
is a direct link between free market and unemployment. However, they adhere that there isn t a lot

The night I slept outside in September was definitely the worst and horrific and I could never forget
this one either.
This experience was slightly different because it was in London.
Yet again we had run out of money to pay for another night stay at a hotel. We had run out of money
the night before when we only had ВЈ60 left enough to pay for one night sharing a single room.
The hotels are usually not allowed to do this but the lady at the reception desk allowed us to stay
because we explained to her that we had no money left.
We did not have any dinner that night and had no clue of what to do the next day.
The next morning we had to check out. And still we had no money, we had no idea what to do.
The suitcases were still with us and they were so difficult to travel around London with. So I
decided to put all our luggage inside the hotel s storage room and leave it there until we knew what
to do.
The hotels that we had been staying at in London were within close proximity of Hyde Park, so we
would spend hours everyday just sitting there.

Essay on U.S. Foreign Policy and Latin America
During the Cold War, the US invaded Latin America, Asia, and partly Europe. They used sneaky
methods and propaganda to achieve their goals. At this time, in the Cold War, they were very
devious and tactical in their mission. The US foreign Policy at that time was all about defeating
Communism and keeping the balance of power in it s favor but most importantly, for US s own
economic interest. Generally, the US foreign policy concerning Latin America was of course for the
US own benefit. If the person in power was trying to nationalize their country s economy, the US
accused them of communism and proceeded to push them out, unofficially, under the pretext of
national security. In Guatemala, United Fruit was the main corporation that... Show more content on

This was the face of US foreign policy in Guatemala. Chile s economy was effectively owned by
US corporation s, and these corporation s controlled the country s resources. When Allende
nationalized copper the two main American corporation were financially hurt severely and lost a
lot of profit. This concerned the US and Nixon worried that Chile was falling under soviet
control and communism. One of Nixon s fears was that the Soviets would have total control in
Americas backyard. However, the major reason that the US instigated the overthrow was
because the corporations did not want Chile to take over their own resources and use them for
their own benefit. The corporations were able to exercise leverage over Allende because Chile
was in the middle of an economic depression and Chile was receiving loans from American
banks. Once Allende was in power these loans were stopped by US foreign policy and of course
Chile suffered economically . At this point, Pinochet was put into power . This is a perfect
example of how the US foreign policy replaced genuine democracy with dictatorship for their
own benefit, and again, supposedly in the name of National Security. Latin America was a victim
of US foreign policy and corporate greed. US foreign policy in Europe was to dominate, exploit,
and to eradicate Communism. This was to continue US hegemony and to keep the balance of power
in their favor.

apprehending the objective behind the study of semiosis (process of signs) (Pern 162). In addition,
philosophers and thinkers have centralized various forms of explanations and theories regarding the
source that stimulates imagination and how it is a critical part of understanding human behavior
within society (Pern 163). For example, famous philosophers and thinkers Giambattista Vico and
Thomas Hobbes emphasized the significance of imagination and semiotic activity within their
respective theories (Pern 162 163). Additionally, Vico and Hobbes addressed similar and divergent
ideologies regarding the process of imagination conceptualizing how the concept of imagination is
imperative to understanding the human experience. Giambattista Vico established his ideology
concerning imagination on the grounds of independence as imagination does fulfill the function of
rationality and logical thinking. However, Hobbes held a contradictory viewpoint on the different
concepts driven by the human mind such as sensitivity,

Hamlet Soliloquies Analysis
All seven soliloquies in the play are based on several common themes such as death, incest, pain,
fear, emptiness of existence, and pride and hypocrisy that make us human. To create these themes
and further develop character, Shakespeare uses certain techniques. First of all, Shakespeare
employs blank verse to create a smooth flowing rhythm and cadence. He masterfully switches back
and forth between fast and slow pace by utilizing both short choppy sentences and fluent long ones.
Secondly, it is clear that the soliloquies do not waste any word. Each syllable and sound adds depth
to the development of Hamlet. Each soliloquy successfully conveys to the reader Hamlet s state of
mind and intensity of his emotion. Most importantly, the soliloquies reveal something special that
the play itself does no t. Just by looking at the play separately, it i s very hard for readers to notice
the character development that Hamlet goes through. For instance, the beginning soliloquies prove
that Hamlet is indecisive and irresolute. Thus, it i s the soliloquy found in each aAct of the play
that readers can watch Hamlet grow internally.
As an uptight and hypersensitive individual, Hamlet never seems to reveal much about his thoughts
throughout the whole play. In fact, since Hamlet is inclined to express his emotions in a physically
interactive way, including his abusive interaction with his mother and aggressive physical contact
with Laertes and Claudius, it is rather difficult for the audience to interpret his intentions and his
thoughts. His soliloquies, however, are the only ways in which the audience can finally gain an
understanding of his thoughts. This soliloquy, also being the first, reveals him to be thoroughly
disgusted with Gertrude, Claudius, and the world in general. This is when the King Claudius and
Queen Gertrude urges Hamlet in the open court to cast off the deep melancholy which, as they
think, has taken possession of his mind as a consequence of his father s death. In their opinion,
Hamlet has sufficiently grieved for his father s death already. Prior to the soliloquy, King Claudius
and Queen Gertrude announce their marriage, as according to them, the court cannot afford
excessive grief, which further saddens

The Punk Subculture
The punk subculture was one of the influential revolutions on the 20th century, which originated in
in the 1970s and spread across countries that included the United Kingdom, the United States of
America and Australia. This subculture was based on a loud, aggressive genre of music called
punk rock, and it intended to gain individual freedom for the working class. This essay explains the
journey from the evolution and widespread of the punk subculture in the UK in 1980s. As the title
suggests, punk fashionhas been ruptured, tweaked and re interpreted by individuals and fashion
designers over and over again, and its style has been re adapted to juxtapose on contemporary
trends.
The term subculture refers to a group of people who have similarities between them, and these
similarities distinguish them significantly from other social groups. The similarities do not mean
religious or political affiliation. These groups have different beliefs than the main culture and are
youth oriented. These subcultures have their own styles of music, ideology, ... Show more content

continuously. Beowulf is the protagonist in the adventure and has a clearly defined counterpart:
Grendel; the evil entity. They are put against each other numerous times as a representation of how
there will be a never ending quarrel between good and evil. This can be compared to a specifically
recent event: the Las Vegas terror attack. Though this may only be one event, the threat of terror
attacks has been a constant concern; the Las Vegas, only being more severe and recent. This
constant tension between the terrorists and the people is just as that of Beowulf and Grendel: never

Essay on The Jungle by Upton Sinclair, Jr.
At the beginnings of the 1900s, some leading magazines in the U.S have already started to exhibit
choking reports about unjust monopolistic practices, rampant political corruption, and many other
offenses; which helped their sales to soar. In this context, in 1904, The Appeal to Reason, a
leading socialist weekly, offered Sinclair $500 to prepare an exposГ© on the meatpackingindustry
(Cherny). To accomplish his mission, Sinclair headed to Chicago, the center of the meatpacking
industry, and started an investigation as he declared I spent seven weeks in Packingtown studying
conditions there, and I verified every smallest detail, so that as a picture of social conditions the
book is as exact as a government report (Sinclair, The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And he writes of dishonest politicians and tricky real estate salesmen. At the core of the story,
Sinclair tells about the devastation and the falling apart of Jurgis s family as a result of the
ruthless, abusive, and oppressive nature of work and life in Packingtown. By the end, Jurgis
wanders alone, deprived of all dignity. He comes across a rally of political socialists, hears a
speech on socialism, and enthusiastically converts to that cause. In the last chapters of the novel,
Sinclair manifests arguments for socialism, in the form of speeches that Jurgis hears. The book
ends with an appeal of a socialist speaker to Organize! Organize! Organize! so that Chicago will be
ours! Chicago will be ours! CHICAGO WILL BE OURS! (Sinclair 372 73)
So, according to some critics, it becomes clear that The Jungle is a propaganda destined to
promote socialism over capitalism, and to reveal the hollowness of the American Dream, which
capitalists define it as being the ability for people to improve their lot and to attain their aspiration
for better lives through hard work. Throughout The Jungle, Sinclair portrays the American Dream
from a socialist vision, and illustrates it as being a mere fictitious fantasy by the capitalists in order
to keep the working class blind to the truth and under their everlasting hegemony.
In regards to the American capitalist system, in Sinclair s viewpoint,

The Extinction Of Homelessness Essay
The Extinction of Homelessness
As 2016 has begun to come to an end. Most families in America are focusing on the presidential
election, planning year end events or even establishing resolutions for the new year. While the
invisible part of most cities population is faced with a pivotal decision. How will I survive a brutal
winter without proper housing? On the surface this may appear to be an uncomplicated matter, to
the casual eye, but it is genuinely a painstakingly complicated matter. Communities worldwide are
relentlessly attempting to deal with overwhelming amount of homeless citizen and trying to
decipher the possible causes, so that an effective long term remedy can be achieved. Possibly it is
the perfect moment to embrace a new fangled innovative way that will contribute to the
radicalization of this rapidly developing crisis. By taking a proactive approach it is possible to
terminate this deplorable situation.
Defining Homeless ness
Homelessness is defined in many ways. Most people have a different perspective on the
definition of homelessness. Based on U S Codes The general definition of homeless, homeless
individual, and homeless person mean (1) an individual or family who lack a fixed, regular, and
adequate nighttime residence, (2) an individual or family with a primary nighttime residence that
is a public or private place not designed for or ordinarily used as a regular sleeping accommodation

Parent Support Groups Can Reduce Child Abuse Essay
Many parents lack the skills necessary to properly teach and discipline their children. As a result,
out of pure frustration, parents lash out physically and/or verbally. Hitting a child or yelling at
one has detrimental long term effects. Parents to be need to be given strategies for dealing with
discipline issues. Support groups should also offer parent training. When parents have had a hard
day, whether due to work, family, or other persons or events, they tend to lash out without a
thought at the misbehaving child. The parent lets his or her anger build up, unable to release it
toward the appropriate situation he or she is actually frustrated with. It s so easy to get caught up
in their moment of frenzy. It s hard to stand... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, it is it is not illegal for children to endure this type of punishment. Even more
unbelievable, priests say that the bible even promotes it. One priest, Reverend Ronald E.
Williams, says that a parent should use a wooden paddle and any unwillingness to use physical
correction is child abuse . The bible can also be used to vindicate slavery, suppression of women,
polygamy, incest, and infanticide (The Humanist 2000). While all these inhumane actions are
illegal, why then is it appropriate to abuse a child out of anger or frustration. Unbeknownst to
most parents, hitting or yelling at a child has pernicious effects throughout that child s lifetime.
Once a child is hit so many times, hitting becomes a learned behavior that will follow him or her
from school days where they get into fights, into marriage, where they will possibly hit their
spouse, and eventually will lead into parenthood and become a form of discipline to their
children. The New York Post says that research indicates that when a child is spanked it could
result in sexualized behavior and/or sexual deviancy. When a parent yells at a child, he teaches that
child that it is an appropriate outlet for the child s frustrations. Hitting or yelling will also result in
worse behaviors

Software As A Service ( Saas )
Abstract. Software as a service (SaaS) is becoming popular in the modern era of cloud computing.
Most of the organizations prefer to use SaaS instead of on premise software applications. This
brings the responsibility of supporting a large number of tenants by the software vendor. A good
approach for handling multiple tenants is to implement multi tenant architecture for SaaS. Multi
tenant SaaS application will run a single instance of the application for all the users while providing
enough customization options to tenants so that they feel like they are working on a dedicated
application. Nevertheless, implementing the multi tenant architecture effectively is a complex task

The benefits of SaaS that make it popular are as follows: No additional hardware costs: the
processing power required to run the applica tions is supplied by the cloud provider. No initial
setup costs: applications are ready to use once the user subscribes. Pay for what you use: if a
piece of software is only needed for a limited period then it is only paid for over that period and
subscriptions can usually be halted at any time. Usage is scalable: if a user decides they need
more storage or additional services, for example, then they can access these on demand without
needing to install new software or hardware. Updates are automated: whenever there is an
update it is available online to ex isting customers, often free of charge. No new software will be
required as it often is with other types of applications and the updates will usually be deployed
automatically by the cloud provider. Cross device compatibility: SaaS applications can be
accessed via any internet enabled device, which makes it ideal for those who use a number of
different devices, such as internet enabled phones and tablets, and those who don t always use the
same computer. Accessible from any location: rather than being restricted to installations on indi
vidual computers, an application can be accessed from anywhere with an internet enabled device

Catcher s The Rye, A Phenomenal Work Of Literature
Catcher in the Rye Soundtrack Catcher in the Rye was a phenomenal work of literature. The
novel has been able to withstand the test of time without ever making it to the big screen.
Present day with a movie of the bestselling novel is coming soon, every detail must amaze the
avid reader of the book. This includes, lighting, a flawless director, a cluster of A list actors,
outstanding scenery, and last but certainly not least, a soundtrack that will knock the viewer of
the movie into a sense of amazement. A soundtrack can completely devastate a movie. If there is
a scene where a character in the scene is crying because they lost their friend, it would definitely
be strange if the music in the background was Can t Touch This by M.C. Hammer. Soundtracks
tell the audience what to feel whether it would be fear or excitement. With a soundtrack playing a
critical position in a movie, the songs that have been chosen have transcended more than just the
scenes they are played in, and turned into the embodiment of some of the major themes in the
movie. A great selection for the opening song would be a song by Chance the Rapper called
Finish Line . On this song, Chance the Rapper appears to just spout sentences that just come to
head like the stream of consciousness like Holden. When Holden goes on his particular tangents he
usually is trying to get to a specific point, a finish line. Coincidentally, Holden during the entire
book has been trying to come to some finish line . With

Similarities Between Frankenstein And Rappaccini s Daughter
Nature and Nurture in Frankenstein and Rappaccini s Daughter
One of the most popular disputes in the history of philosophy regards whether nurture of a human
being plays a more important role in the formation of its character than the genetic heritage that it
bears. As a natural result, the dispute echoes in many literary works, not always directly, but
sometimes taking the form of a pretext or a motif in a larger context. Such examples are
Frankenstein by Marry Shelley and Rappaccini s Daughter , by Nathaniel Hawthorne. Their authors
relate the evolution of at least two characters, the monster and Beatrice, throughout both writings,
with the way those characters were nurtured. Both authors use innocence as a common ... Show

Certain rumors spread into town characterize her as a highly educated young woman. We find
evidence in that sense from Doctor Baglioni, another character in the story: Rappaccini is said to
have instructed her deeply in his science, and that, young and beautiful as fame reports her, she
is already qualified to fill a professor s chair (Hawthorne 878). But the truth is that, as she
confesses later in the story, she knows nothing about the science of botany that her father is
involved in; actually, she is only familiar with the flower s hues and perfumes ( Hawthorne 883).
She practically knows as much as a child of small age would; her education also lacks any form
of interaction experience with the society. Hawthorne presents her father, Doctor Rappaccini, as
her only companion of life. Her reason for isolation is related to her father s overprotective
attitude towards his only child. Rappaccini raises her in the neighborhood of poisonous flowers,
making her immune to them, but also transforming her into a source of poison. Beatrice is aware
of the poison that she exudes; thus she becomes indirectly isolated from the rest of the world by
her father. The deadly attribute Beatrice possesses places a social safeguarding wall around her.
The similarity between the monster s isolation and Beatrice s isolation is thus obvious. The two
parents, Victor and Rappaccini, highly competent

Pirates, Galleons and Treasure also shows pirate stories being romanticised when they speak about
the relationship of Anne Bonny and Calico Jack.
Within the documentary, Anne Bonny and Calico Jack are shown to be lovers and while that

on to talk about Bonny being the mother of his child, leaving out the fact that it is also
speculated that Bonny had slept with her jailors so it is not confirmed that it is his child
(Konstam, 2011, p.166). Bonny s father is said to have had a possible role in her escape
(Konstam, 2011, p.185), instead of the claim that no one knows at all where she could have
gone in the documentary. Also in the video, Calico Jack is said to be responsible for designing
the skull and cross bone flag (Pirates, Galleons and Treasure, 2007), when the flag had been first
been spotted in 1700 by a pirate named Wyn way before Calico Jack (The Golden Age, 2016)

With the advancement of suffrage to equal pay, over the last century, women s rights have

women protested for their equal place in politics and social progress. Despite the fear mongering

women, such as the right to vote and a sense of equal state in the Free World, and can only improve

The Effects Of Hearing Impairment On Children
When I first walked into my friend Betsy s parent s retirement home center on December 8th at
10am, I saw some elderly people sitting on sofas, another using a walker to get to the kitchen,
and some others sitting on their wheelchair watching the television. The living room smelled like
a hospital that consists of different medications in the air, but the scent feels fresh from the open
window next to them at the same time. Betsy introduced me to an old man named Alfred, who
was the first person I interviewed. What I noticed immediately was that he was wearing hearing
aids since Betsy had to speak loudly to him to let him know that I was planning to ask him a few
questions for my assignment. This recalled my memory of Week 5 lecture 2 s topic on Changes
in Vision and Hearing, (2014) on what Professor Wong was talking about on the signs of hearing
impairment. As soon as I sat down to introduce myself to him and talk about what I was
interviewing him for, I had to raise my voice louder than usual and repeat myself several times.
Alfred is 91 years old, but he feels like he is still somewhere between 60 65 years of age. I was
really worried that some of the questions I asked him was too strenuous for him to think about
and I was paranoid that I might accidentally kill him since he paused a lot, laid on the sofa
breathing hard and he also kept looking up, like he was about to have a stroke. It was frightening.

Pets can be a man s best friend. Every new experience can make a person change; sometimes the
change is negative, other times it is positive, either way, there is no avoiding change. Animals are
nice, protective, and crazy.
In the article Travels with Charley in Search Of America, by John Steinbeck, the authors dogshows
how he is nice. This is a unique dog. He does not live by a dangerous pet, he is a nice, gently dog
(Steinbeck, pg 145, pp 2). This quote is about how nice the dog is to the owner. This animal
impact the persons in the story because when he noticed the dog the dog was nice which made him

One day when a stranger tried to hold one of the children, our jolly giant showed a ferocity we
never imagined was inside him (Grogan, pg 150, pp 11). A stranger came and tried to kidnap a
child and the dog was protecting the child. It impacts the person because dogs protect people from
strangers. Pets can be very crazy when they are mad.
Another novel that shows crazy pets is in the novel called Dogs Make Us Humans, by Temple
Grandin and Catherine Johnson, It talks about how dogs are like humans and how they control
themselves. Max trained himself to watch out for his owners blood sugar (Grandin, pg 154, pp

goes up. It impacts the person because the dog know how to control himself when the owner get a

Imperial Japanese Army Responsible For Ww2 Essay
The Imperial Japanese army was responsible for their own downfall in WWII, as they were too
egotistical, putting pride before logical and effective decisions, started making fatal mistakes
and planning failures, and made game changing decisions that ultimately caused great defeat for
the Imperial Japanese army. The Imperial Japanese army was responsible for their own downfall
in WWII as they made fatal decisions. First, the Japanese army neglected to routinely change
their codes. American code breakers quickly broke the Japanese code and were able to anticipate
almost all Japanese moves, resulting in many victories for the Allies, such as the Battle of
Midway and the assassination of Admiral Isoruku Tammamoto, and consequently great defeat for
Japan. Elliot Carlson, a journalist and historian states in an NPR interview, That victory was
possible, in large part, because of the work of a little known naval codebreaker named Joe
Rochefort, His work deciphering... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To begin, they decided to go to war with two of the most powerful industrial and naval forces, the
US and Britain, during Japan s attempted Occupation of Indochina (now Indonesia) from the 22nd
to the 26th of September 1940, even though they knew it was impossible to win. All because it was
either that or surrender, and they thought that would make them look weak. That, and during all of
their battles, they would fight to the death even though they knew they had no chance of winning.
They would much rather commit suicide than surrender, as dictated by the Bushido code, or the
Way of the Warrior or Samurai. According to Bushido, it was preferable to commit suicide rather
than suffer the disgrace of being captured by the enemy. [3]. Putting pride before ethical, logical

Capitalism And The Industrial Revolution
According to Thomas L. Friedman, author of The World is Flat, the concept of globalization
happened in three eras. The first era occurred 1492 until 1800 with the age of exploration and
discovery. Globalization 2.0 followed, lasting 1800 2000. It was characterized by the Industrial
Revolution. The third era of globalizationbegan in the year 2000, and occurs to this day (Friedman,
year, p.8). But the real question is, what sparked the rise of globalization? The term is modern, but
the concept is not. Capitalismand the Industrial Revolutionplayed a huge part in the development of
industrial cities and globalization. The need of goods that cannot be produced everywhere sparked
trade and exploration, and with that came capitalism and the rise of technology as well. Surplus of
products led to a population growth, and technological advances led to trade. The world was being
utilized for economic growth. With globalization 2.0 came the industrial revolution, and a huge
economic time for the United States. More trade and technological advancements and inventions
helped people and products prosper. Transportation in the form of trains and steam engines grew the
economy and industrial cities rapidly. Multinational corporations led to new immigrants, and thus
diversifying populations. Unemployment rates decreased with the demand of jobs that needed to
be filled. Everything could be accomplished faster than ever before. The population of the United
States doubled and even

Han Dynasty Changes
Intro: In our version of the Han Dynasty, we maintained original ideals regarding, politics, social
statuses, philosophy, and governmental aspects. We changed and tweaked certain specific aspects
of these themes, such as the height of the Great Wall of China, and the purpose behind folklore.
Government and political aspects we decided to keep were the Great Wall of China, but in the form
of a full wall around the entirety of the Han Dynasty, as well as making it taller, for better
fortifications. As for the legal systems such as the Han Dynasty law code, we decided it was
socially beneficial to keep it, except... for the Mongols (JK). We also thought it was prudent to
keep the empirical reign over China because it had the mandate of heaven to keep the populace
content and the emperors, relatively, in line.
Economically, we chose to keep the silk road where it is because it was efficient and brought in
good trade from other civilizations. Regarding crops and metalurgey, we left them be because
China had a good source of food rarely led to famine. However, we would change the amount of
metal working the civilization produced, only ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While it wasn t optimal for the peasants, it helped the empire flourish and maintain its rule. An
example of flourishing was when peasants were contracted to build the Great Wall of China. The
major change we want to employ in social systems, was the role of women in China. China was
notorious for subjugating their women, and a change in this societal norm would greatly benefit
China, as a whole, not just the Han Dynasty. If women could work and be educated the same as
men, China s civilization could have lasted longer, as well as discovered and developed new
technology. A good blueprint for women s role in society would have been the social structure of
the Egyptian civilization, where women had equal legal rights with

Inevitability Of Eternal Life
I try to live life happily and fully because I know that the time on Earth is limited. What makes
the life precious is the inevitability of the death. Day by day, from birth, everyone is
approaching a step closer to his or her final hour. Even the Bible mentions in Ecclesiastes 3 that
there is a time for everything ... a time to be born and a time to die . Many scientists tried to
research the concept of mortality, and yet, this matter needs further study, or it will remain
unknown until each person encounters at a time of death. I still remember the first decease
scene I witnessed as a child; it was my great grandfather s. He was an atheist for his whole life
and neither did he believe the afterlife. In spite of this, right before he ceased to breathe, my
family heard him saying, I believe in God, I want an eternal life . I suppose that my great
grandfather wanted to have peace and be sincere before leaving this world which he could not
return. Notably, a lot of people throughout the times believed the afterlife. Egyptians, for example,
believe that the souls continue their life even after the death. Others, for instance, the Christians,
believe of resurrection at return of Jesus. Christian s burials are interesting that it is still a popular
tourist attraction in Rome. The tombs I will focus are the Christian catacombs and the St. Peter s, in
addition to development of Christianityand the Christian art traced along these sites.
What is tomb? It is the burial site of the

Advantages Of Informal Lodging
Informal lodging Instead of Hotels
Most explorers have caught wind of the advantages of staying at an informal lodging rather than a
customary inn. Yet, just a little rate of them really wind up staying at a quaint little inn. I used to
be one of those individuals who stayed away from the little family claimed foundations. Presently I
am a believer. I think you could turn into a believer to.
For quite a long time I was reluctant to stay at a neighborhood informal lodging when voyaging. I
figure I was one of those individuals who simply stayed with the easy win. You realize what an
inn will be similar to generally. You may discover one that has a more agreeable bed than another.
You may discover one that has amazing water weight and in this way a wonderful shower. The vast
majority of them have moderately clean rooms.

There is a vastly more private environment at a quaint little inn against that with respect to a
major lodging. Arranging a go at this sort of convenience is likewise an awesome approach to
meet new men and ladies. Since there are a predefined amount of individuals that a quaint little inn
will have the capacity to oblige chances are that you basically may keep running into kindred
visitors also amid the day or at breakfast.
It is very traditional to request informal lodging to serve a whole breakfast dinner in the morning
that all visitors will be urged to go to. The feast is typically incorporated into aROOM PRICE and
that is one motivation behind why this sort of overnight settlement is called as a quaint little inn. It
is not extraordinary these days for this kind of hotel are putting forth more than just breakfasts to
the guests. A few may serve lunch or have a drink hour where visitor guests can blend.

Development Of The Metropolitan Or Urban University Essay
Introduction
The metropolitan or urban university is one of the newer institutional models within the American
higher education system (Whitney, 2005). Initially, a group of academic leaders from t thirteen
urban institutions formed an alliance called the Urban 13 and began meeting regularly to discuss
how their institutions were different from all other institutional models (Whitney, 2005).
Internationally institutions of higher education have maintained their importance for both their
regional and national economies and wellbeing. Even our European counterparts have increased
their attention and debates on the need for higher education institutions, with some concentrating
on having fewer institutions with a higher quality. As I young institution, only forty seven years
old, Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) has and is continuing to go through
growth and establishing an identity as a regional campus. For this paper I will focus on Housing
and Residence Life at Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis, and how it has grown
since its inception. strategic management within the Division of Student Affairs, is the ongoing
development of on campus housing options for students. Housing and Residence Life directly
impacts student retention through programming, leadership opportunities, and product design.
National research consistently shows living on campus results in students earning higher GPAs,

What Is The Attachment Theory Of Middle Childhood
The middle childhood includes ages between of 6 and 11 years which is crucial phase of
development of cognition, emotion, and social behavior of an individual. The transition from early
childhood to middle childhood displays modification in psychological world of the child. In the
present essay an attempt is made to discuss middle childhoodwith reference to Erikson s theory and
Attachment theory.
Erikson s theory was based on Freud s psychosexual theory of ego psychology. He desired to
determine that psychosocial development of an individual is due to the interaction between the
innermost self, the social, historical, cultural background and the living individual (Seligman
Shanock, 1998). This theory is described basing on principals such as a) Epigenetic Principal, a)
Radius of Relationship, b) Psychosocial Crisis, c) Prime Adaptive Ego Qualities and d) Core
Pathologies (Newman Newman,2012). Erikson also described the succession of eight stages of
development. They are a) Oral sensory, b) Muscular anal, c) Loco ... Show more content on

How I Begin As A Head Teacher
Episode Four Headship
In this section I provide an account of how I begin as a head teacher and how I take the lead in a
pilot developing integrated services in partnership with the local authority. I reflect on the
compromises I had to make after the school was identified as a school eligible for National
Challenge (NC) funding . As previously, I consider my identity, I also step aside to consider
performitivity , a concept I believe changed the identity of leaders (as league tables were
published) and capable of changing the identity of leaders in the future. In the illustration below I
have continued to develop further my action research representation from page 83. As my role

I had little doubt by the way I was approached that they identified me as their head teacher but at
this stage I did not. I still identified, maybe not as a deputy head teacher as the zone work had
moved me on from that position, but certainly not as a head teacher. I was going to have to
reconstruct myself very quickly into this new role.
There was no time to consider leadership in the first week or even describe it as a phase of
learning but I am of no doubt that it was. The demands and expectations of being a head teacher
moved with momentous speed. The shift from each leadership role came with differing decision
making responsibilities but this was different. I had not reaslised the reach of decisions made by
head teachers each and every day. I was so struck by the range that I made a point of recording in
my journal some of what they were and how I felt about my first week. This is what I wrote:
It is an odd feeling I have. People want to meet me as though I am important but I am not I am
just me. I wonder will they be disappointed when they find this out. I don t appear to have
anything really to do I am sure this will change. I have made so many decisions I wonder if I
should have. Very few of the decisions link directly to achievement or maybe they all do. I think I
will be happy here but next week I need to be the person

The Importance Of Media Literacy
Indeed, the pervasiveness of media in its abundant forms in contemporary US culture is
undeniable. Almost everywhere one looks, one can find forms of media; a magazine at a doctor s
office, a billboard alongside a freeway, a painting at an art gallery, a performance on television or
on stage. Media, undeniably, is ubiquitous. However, in all the innumerous forms mediacomes to us
in, every one of these forms is created for a single purpose; to communicate an idea or message.
Thus, it the individual s ability to interpret these forms and decipher their meaning has become
critical. But how are students, as well as educators, supposed to interact and interpret media?
Propitiously, just as with any subject of study, one must become... Show more content on

7 8). Hoechsmann Poyntz furthers Buckingham s argument by eloquently writing, Rather than
being positioned as victims, a focus on media... addresses the complex ways youths become agents
in their life and the lives of others (Hoechsmann Poyntz, 2012, p. 109).
Indeed, because the singular purpose of media is to convey an idea or a message to the masses,
media must have an audience; which is to say a group who consumes it. Further, because of its
omnipresence in US culture, media will certainly almost always have an audience; for anyone who
is exposed to media may be considered part of its audience; whether they consciously acknowledge
their participation or not. Consequently, through a variety of forms, such as access to television and
the internet, children today are exposed to media from a very early age. Assuredly, as
Buckingham suggests, starting from a young age of even four or five, children have already
started interacting with media (Buckingham, 2004, p. 41 45). Subsequently, children, from a very
early age, most certainly, are members of the media s audience. However, the central question
presented here is whether children should be forced to remain a passive consumer or be
encouraged to become an audience s active participant.
Most assuredly,

A Comparison Of Two Dramatic Action Crime Movies
The two movies that I have chosen to write about, are two movies that are very special to me. I
grew up watching these movies countless times, and still to this day enjoy giving them a watch.
The movies I chose were The Dark Knight (2008) and No Country for Old Men (2007). Both of
these movies are very unique, especially for going against what most movies belonging to this
genre do. Both of these are Dramatic Action Crime films. It s quite a mouthful, but those are all of
my favorite genres in one. Now, on the surface, these two movies would seem vastly different, but
surprisingly enough, they are quite similar. For example, you have the menacing villain, who s a
ruthless killer. In the case of The Dark Knight, you have the Joker, who relies on fear and madness

However, from the character s point of view, he is simply a vigilante. Llewelyn Moss however,
is definitely an antihero. He takes money that simply doesn t belong to him, even if it was from
a drug deal gone wrong, that was still morally wrong. Both main characters attempt to keep their
partner s safe, and unfortunately they both fail. No Country for Old Men s visual imagery
suggests that Anton kills Carla Jean Moss, he checks his boots for blood as he leaves her house.
In The Dark Knight, the audience actually sees Rachel get blown up. Possibly the saddest and
most surprising part of The Dark Knight, Bruce Wayne must find a way to move on and defeat
The Joker, and newly turned villain Harvey Dent (Two Face). Both of these movies are great, and if
you haven t seen either of them, I would definitely encourage you to watch them. In my 18 years
of living, these two movies have continued to stay my favorite movies of all time. Many other
movies have impressed me recently, It (2017) and Baby Driver (2017) Would be my two favorite
movies if I had to restrict my choices to movies that have come out this

Compare And Contrast Civilization And Western Civilization
The texts, The Western Heritage , and the Western Civilization offer unique perspectives on the
birth of the western civilization through the years predating the 1300s. Both narratives navigate
through thousands of years of history, exploring the political, economic, social and military aspects
of the evolution of the western civilization. Whilst both texts discuss the birth and creation of
civilization as defined by the western world, the readings vary stylistically as well as in their
elaborations of the evolution of society. While their themes of civilization such as religion, and
agriculture coincide with one another the approach in their discussion differs.
Once such difference can be seen in the introductions of the readings. While ... Show more content

While Mesopotamia is greatly defined through it development of literature through writings such

civilization is greatly defined through the development of irrigation and agriculture. Egyptian
civilization as described in great lengths in the, Western Heritage was centered around the Nile
River. With the aid of the river, Egyptians were able to develop a complex agricultural system of
planting and harvesting, which allowed for a surplus of crops incomparable to the rest of the
ancient world. By having an advantageous agricultural system, Egypt was able to place their
focus elsewhere, allowing for unified society rather than having individual city states. Under this
unified society, religion was the dominant factor, leading to one of the world s first theocracies, as
well as some of the western civilization s greatest dynastic rulers. Although Egypt s unified state
allowed for it to become one of the most highly developed civilizations of the western world, it also
led to its destruction. Due to its highly unified state, Egypt rarely engaged in warfare amongst itself
and other civilizations. This led to a fundamentally lacking military skill, which caused their

  • 2. The Ethics Of Energy And Environment When I was a kid,I saw a show in which a criminal investigator caught the murderer by performing some chemical tests on a small amount of liquid left at the crime scene. What fascinated me the most about this incident was the magical way in which answers could be found from seemingly ordinary objects by using a few reagents. I became a regular follower of such shows and thus began my love for Chemistry. During my undergraduate studies, I discovered that Analytical Chemistryformed the backbone of these so called magical techniques, which further influenced me to get a higher degree in Analytical Chemistry. Another topic that gave me inspiration toward chemistry was sustainability of energy and environment. Being a citizen of a developing country, I observed energy crisis and environmental pollution first hand. I want to contribute to solve this problem by pursuing higher studies in Environmental chemistry, as it will enable me to use my intellectual potentials for the betterment of the environment and in turn the society. My past academic accomplishments bear a testament of my future endeavors. I achieved the GPA of 5.00 in the scale of 5.00 in both the secondary and higher secondary studies. The desire for an exhilarating career in the field of chemistry motivated me to apply to the department of Applied Chemistry Chemical Engineering, University of Dhaka, which is the oldest and most prestigious university in Bangladesh. The program had a well structured and comprehensive ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Prendick s Journey Adventure of a Lifetime An old proverb says: A good friend listens to your adventures. A best friend makes them with you. H.G. Well s book The Island of Dr. Moreau depicts Prendick s journey as a roller coaster ride. Montgomery, an assistant of Moreau, saved Prendick s life and welcomed him to the unknown island. By openly conversing, they both discovered their shared interest in science. After living and experiencing the different aspects of the island, Prendick finds out that Moreau performs vivisection, which is the practice of doing dissections on live animals for the purpose of research and experimentation. Convinced that he will be next in line, Prendick attempts suicide. Moreau and Montgomery wondered why Prendick would do this... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While being led to the corpse of Moreau, Prendick and Montgomery were mortified and in disbelief. While on an adventure through the woods with Montgomery, Prendick came across a creature that was stalking him. They both avoided eye contact with the animal creature, walking towards the shore of the island. Montgomery said, What s the good of getting away? I m an outcast (82). Montgomery could relate to some of the qualities and experiences that Prendick went through. He felt like society did not accept him for who was because of his beliefs. He knew that people, mostly the beasts would judge him. Building a stronger, more compassionate friendship with Prendick made him open up about the different things about the island and how he felt. Talking to Montgomery more about the beast creatures, Prendick said, In spite of their increased intelligence, and the tendency of their animal instincts to reawaken, they had certain Fixed Ideas implanted by Moreau in their minds which absolutely bounded their imaginations (61 62). Prendick initially was intimidated by the numerous amount of animals around the island because he was not familiar with the culture and life of living on an island. Since talking with Montgomery helped him cope with his fears of walking in the woods. Since Montgomery introduced the different facts and background information about the beast creatures, Prendick was able to notice extraordinary aspects about them. From an unwillingness to make eye contact, to listing distinct facts about each creature that he saw, Prendick proved that fear does not last ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is the bright day that brings forth the adder,...And therefore think him as a serpent s egg, which hatched, would, as his kind, grow mischievous, And kill in the shell, (Brutus, Julius Caesar, Act 2, Scene 1 and Act 1, Scene 12 15). Brutus s cowardly actions and impulsive decision to act saved Rome from a future tyrant who would rule Rome for future years to come. On March 15th, 44 B.C., fearsome Roman politician and dictator, Julius Caesar, breathed his last breath in the monumental city of Rome, Italy. Surround by Roman senators, Caesar presented a self focused speech. Behind his assassination stood one powerful man; Marcus Brutus. Brutus, alongside many Roman senators, contributed to the murder of the dictator, by being the last to stab him to death. Brutus joined the conspiracy precisely because he feared how a crown might transform Caesar. In his last words, Caesar is unknowingly defending himself against Brutus s fears. Despite the pompousness, Caesar s comparison to the star is accurate; he is the center around which the Roman world revolves, the cornerstone and pillar of the edifice of the empire. Shaking him down endangers the whole, (Brightest Heaven of Invention, pg.95). Minutes before the first dagger reaches Caesar s skin, he explains to the group of men how he is similar to an unchangeable north star, which was known to be a symbolism of a great ruler. Furthermore, Brutus ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The U.P. Apartment Act- Your Rights and Responsibilities... U.P. Apartment Act Your Rights and Responsibilities When an act is passed in the interest of people, do they always get its benefit? One of the notable stories answering the question is that of the U.P. Apartment Act, 2010. The act was passed during the BSP Government and was meant to protect the property buyers from the malpractices of the builders. But the developers, joining hands with the authority, are not complying with the rules notified by the act. One of the major case was that of Supertech Limited for violating the rules related to the floor area ratio. Floor Area Ratio (FAR) is the ratio of a building s total floor area to the total area to the plot on which it is erected. It is fixed beforehand by the competent authorities. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Such cases of fraud with the property buyers and breach of laws come popping up in our country every now and then. And in this trap, the burden of loss is heaviest on the buyers shoulders. Laws have been made but what requires more concern is the strict implementation of these rules and regulation. So it is your responsibility to know your rights and responsibilities. Builder s Responsibilities: The act requires the builders to disclose all relevant information to the property buyers. It mandates them to disclose the original map showing property layout plan as approved by the authority. The builder has to cite a likely date for the delivery of the project and also the procedure and penalty in case of delay. Other information that has to be disclosed by the builder to the buyer include land titles, type of fixtures and appliances used in the building, ownership details and remedies in case of flaws. Buyer s Responsibilities: The U.P. Apartment Act puts pressure on the buyers too. It requires the buyers to pay the installments on time and imposes penalties in case of its non payment. The buyers are also required to form an owners association to monitor the regular activities related to the project. The builder will have to take the consent of all members of the association before modifying the layout or making other alterations. Buyers stand to lose a lot when it comes to such breaches. Feminism Throughout The Decades Fight for Your Rights: Feminism Throughout the Decades Women have historically had a rocky relationship with governmental, cultural, religious, and social rights. The Women s Rights movement has been in effect since approximately 1792, with the publication of the first feminist work, A Vindication of the Rights of Woman , by British writer Mary Wollstonecraft ( Women s Rights Movement ). While social changes have occurred and more progressive laws have been put into place throughout the years, there is still not equality between the sexes. Additionally, genderroles in different countries differ greatly. The purpose of this paper is to highlight the major causes and concerns of the Women s Rights movements throughout the decades, as well as denote the differences between more progressive societies and their less accepting counterparts. There have been many causes that lead to the Women s Rights movement. Though the focus of these movements have progressed with time and brought about different waves, the primary cause that initiated the need for the Women s Rights movement was simply the fact that women were historically considered second class citizens. The Case Of The American Legal System The question what is law?, is important to understand law and to the extent to which particular institutions have been accorded power to make or pronounce law. It is important for lawyers, policymakers, politicians and those working in the field of social science academia to understand that the meaning and the scope of law exceeds the basic premises of assumption that law is what the legislature passes as a statute, or law is what a court applies, etc. because that is the way our political order is constructed, etc. Since laws takes various forms, a legal system is needed to interpret and enforce the law in the society through the procedures or process from the systematic nature of law and the examination of the presuppositions and... The Tenth Amendment of the U.S constitution shift the power and legal authority away from the states and towards the federal government. The federal government gains more power over the state but there is a certain jurisdiction of boundaries that the federal can exercise their power over the state. The law deals with the fundamental principles by which the federal government exercises its authority. In the American constitutional system, the authority of government is defined, limited, and distributed by the fundamental law of the United States Constitution. The U.S constitution is a body of written basic law and is superior to and takes precedence over all ordinary acts of Congress and state legislatures and over all decision and actions of the executive branches of the national and state government. That s why it divides the national government into three branches legislative, executive and judicial. The final problem that ARPAnet came across was the fact that most computers did not run exactly the same hardware or software as another. Their solution to this was to build smaller computers (called Interface Message Processors or IMPs) that were in direct contact with the main computer and also in connection with the other IMPs on the network. All of the IMPs were built to the same specifications so that one could easily communicate with the other5. In 1968 all three of these developments were put into action when ARPA sent out proposals and requests for contractors. Bolt, Beranek, and Newman, Inc. (BBN) were awarded the contract to build the IMPs, University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) was awarded the Network Measurement Center contract, and the Network Working Group (NWG) was formed to develop host protocols for the soon to be developed ARPAnet. GANG gang@economics.rutgers.edu Department of Economics, Rutgers University, New Brunswick, NJ 08901 1248 USA Abstract This paper proposes a method for evaluating the impact of tax structure changes on tax revenue. The technique consists of decomposing the gap between actual revenue and potential revenue into components attributable to changes in (i) the tax rate structure (ii) deductions and (iii) tax evasion.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Section 3 we discuss empirical implementation. We present the results of the decomposition for the Indian income tax in Section 4. Section 5 concludes. 2. Decomposing Income Tax Revenue Changes Before formally setting out the decomposition, we explain its logic. Comparisons of revenue performance are made with a pre selected (here pre reform) base year. In order to examine revenue loss, we deп¬Ѓne potential revenue at base year tax rates as the revenue that would obtain in the absence of base erosion due to deductions and evasion, if the base year tax rate structure was in operation. Conceptually, to arrive at potential revenue we tax potential DECOMPOSING REVENUE EFFECTS 179 income, which we take as given.6 Deductions and exclusions (other than for costs of earning income) cause taxable income to be narrower than potential income. Due to tax evasion by, for example, failing to п¬Ѓle a return, understating receipts or overstating expenses, potential income itself may not be fully revealed to tax authorities. What the decomposition analysis does is to separate the difference between potential revenue and revenue actually collected in any year into components reflecting losses due to tax schedule changes, base erosion, and evasion. Potential revenues will, however, differ across years, even if the tax schedule is unchanged, due to changes in aggregate income and its distribution. To account for this, we normalize the difference ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Air pollution is caused by toxic chemicals in the air. The essential wellsprings of pollution are heaters in processing plants, motors in vehicles and the consuming of junk. Air Pollution is a hurtful substance to the air that brings harm to the Earth and human wellbeing. Some air pollutions come back to earth as acidic rain, which it can harm crops, and make streams harmful for other plant and creature life. Haze is another outcome from air pollution, which is destructive to people. Global warmingcan likely be a reason, because of air pollutions, which makes the earth temperature increase. Air pollution is a global issue that concerns the environment because it can negatively affect the health of the environment, cause global warming, as well as acidification. If everyone lets this event continue, then it can affect the wellbeing of the environment and the individuals around it. Air pollution can drastically affect the health of the environment in various ways that can affect the quality of life of individuals. For example, ground level ozone is a colorless gas that is formed when nitrogen oxides volatile organic compounds react in the sun. This ozone is the reason why there is smog. • 12. Socrates And Louis Riel Throughout history, great minds have used situational platforms like trials to advance their ideas to large audiences. Socrates and Louis Riel are no exception to this and used their respected trials as a means of conveying a final political statement. This is evident in both Plato s The Trial and Death of Socratesand Hans V. Hansen s Reil s Defense: Perspectives on his Speeches. Both men s speeches can be seen as weak examples of forensic rhetoricand strong examples of political rhetoric due to the fact that Socrates and Riel both believed in a divine mission and cause much larger than themselves. It is clear that neither man set out to win their trial, and I argue that both Socrates and Riel s speeches were intended to politically inspire as they both saw themselves as martyrs for a greater cause. Socrates trial speech can be considered one of the most important examples of political rhetoric in history. Socrates was brought before the courts on charges of impiety and corrupting the youth of Athens because of his teachings and the politico philosophic questions he posed to his students. At the time Socrates was 70 and could have easily fled Athens with the help of his supporters however he chose to stay in Athens to face the legal consequences of his actions. Hamlet Soliloquies Analysis All seven soliloquies in the play are based on several common themes such as death, incest, pain, fear, emptiness of existence, and pride and hypocrisy that make us human. To create these themes and further develop character, Shakespeare uses certain techniques. First of all, Shakespeare employs blank verse to create a smooth flowing rhythm and cadence. He masterfully switches back and forth between fast and slow pace by utilizing both short choppy sentences and fluent long ones. Secondly, it is clear that the soliloquies do not waste any word. Each syllable and sound adds depth to the development of Hamlet. Each soliloquy successfully conveys to the reader Hamlet s state of mind and intensity of his emotion. Most importantly, the soliloquies reveal something special that the play itself does no t. Just by looking at the play separately, it i s very hard for readers to notice the character development that Hamlet goes through. For instance, the beginning soliloquies prove that Hamlet is indecisive and irresolute. Thus, it i s the soliloquy found in each aAct of the play that readers can watch Hamlet grow internally. As an uptight and hypersensitive individual, Hamlet never seems to reveal much about his thoughts throughout the whole play. In fact, since Hamlet is inclined to express his emotions in a physically interactive way, including his abusive interaction with his mother and aggressive physical contact with Laertes and Claudius, it is rather difficult for the audience to interpret his intentions and his thoughts. His soliloquies, however, are the only ways in which the audience can finally gain an understanding of his thoughts. This soliloquy, also being the first, reveals him to be thoroughly disgusted with Gertrude, Claudius, and the world in general. This is when the King Claudius and Queen Gertrude urges Hamlet in the open court to cast off the deep melancholy which, as they think, has taken possession of his mind as a consequence of his father s death. In their opinion, Hamlet has sufficiently grieved for his father s death already. Prior to the soliloquy, King Claudius and Queen Gertrude announce their marriage, as according to them, the court cannot afford excessive grief, which further saddens ... • 35. Similarities Between Frankenstein And Rappaccini s Daughter Nature and Nurture in Frankenstein and Rappaccini s Daughter One of the most popular disputes in the history of philosophy regards whether nurture of a human being plays a more important role in the formation of its character than the genetic heritage that it bears. As a natural result, the dispute echoes in many literary works, not always directly, but sometimes taking the form of a pretext or a motif in a larger context. Such examples are Frankenstein by Marry Shelley and Rappaccini s Daughter , by Nathaniel Hawthorne. Their authors relate the evolution of at least two characters, the monster and Beatrice, throughout both writings, with the way those characters were nurtured. Both authors use innocence as a common ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Certain rumors spread into town characterize her as a highly educated young woman. We find evidence in that sense from Doctor Baglioni, another character in the story: Rappaccini is said to have instructed her deeply in his science, and that, young and beautiful as fame reports her, she is already qualified to fill a professor s chair (Hawthorne 878). But the truth is that, as she confesses later in the story, she knows nothing about the science of botany that her father is involved in; actually, she is only familiar with the flower s hues and perfumes ( Hawthorne 883). She practically knows as much as a child of small age would; her education also lacks any form of interaction experience with the society. Hawthorne presents her father, Doctor Rappaccini, as her only companion of life. Her reason for isolation is related to her father s overprotective attitude towards his only child. Rappaccini raises her in the neighborhood of poisonous flowers, making her immune to them, but also transforming her into a source of poison. Beatrice is aware of the poison that she exudes; thus she becomes indirectly isolated from the rest of the world by her father. The deadly attribute Beatrice possesses places a social safeguarding wall around her. The similarity between the monster s isolation and Beatrice s isolation is thus obvious. The living room smelled like a hospital that consists of different medications in the air, but the scent feels fresh from the open window next to them at the same time. Betsy introduced me to an old man named Alfred, who was the first person I interviewed. What I noticed immediately was that he was wearing hearing aids since Betsy had to speak loudly to him to let him know that I was planning to ask him a few questions for my assignment. The third era of globalizationbegan in the year 2000, and occurs to this day (Friedman, year, p.8). But the real question is, what sparked the rise of globalization? The term is modern, but the concept is not. Capitalismand the Industrial Revolutionplayed a huge part in the development of industrial cities and globalization. The need of goods that cannot be produced everywhere sparked trade and exploration, and with that came capitalism and the rise of technology as well. Indeed, because the singular purpose of media is to convey an idea or a message to the masses, media must have an audience; which is to say a group who consumes it.
