This document discusses an Inner Wheel project called "Inner Wheel Inside 'We, Women for Expo'", which aims to involve Inner Wheel members worldwide in promoting issues related to nutrition, food security, and sustainable development in partnership with the Expo Milano 2015 world exposition. The project seeks to establish a network of women leaders across 103 countries to share stories and recipes, organize conferences, and collectively author works of literature and art exploring the theme of ensuring global access to nutritious food. The overall goal is for Inner Wheel to play an active role in international debates around achieving long-term food sustainability and security for future generations.

Global hunger statistics give much reason to be concerned. However, a close look on developments on the ground, shows much reason to be optimistic. Here are 7 overarching trends from West-Africa, and dozens of grassroots innovations that gives us reasons to start re-writing our story about global hunger.
We can do so by rethinking traditional roles. Through a collaborative effort, roles, skills and spheres of influence of NGOs, Beneficiaries, Business, Consumers and Government can be redefined.

A lot of studies on women and environment have shown that women are significant actors in natural resource management and they are major contributors to environment rehabilitation and conservation. In addressing some key environmental problems, women play a dominant role. Women, through their roles as farmers and as collectors of water and firewood, have a close connection with their local environment and often suffer most directly from environmental problems.
Women play an important role in environmental management and progress, full participation is therefore essential to achieve sustainable development.
Women play an important role in green economy too.
WOW Bali’s International Initiative for Sustainability and Wellness presents “Dynamic Wellness.”
After 15 years of extensive research, we found that it is important to “collectively sustain” at the community level in order to prevent the loss of biodiversity; the massive
extinctions happening in our ecological environment. The approach has been internationally recognized as “HOLISTIC PARTICIPATORY” model, which has been
academically case studied as a “Dynamic Wellness” solution;recently in 2014 presented as “the top sustainability and wellness framework in South East Asia.”
Ecologically conscious stakeholders have been brought together via mutualism and creative economics through active exchanges to share resources that can
exponentially regenerate through “Sustainable Tourism.” In this WOW presentation, we will share the evolution of our research and development—a combination of fusing
ancient cultures with modern methodologies, shifting perceptions towards dynamic well being through a “reverse osmosis” in the building blocks of experiences. This immediate astounding change will provide new opportunities to participate and for you to initiate positive actions towards a more fruitful abundance in living dynamic relationships. This is the real Wow Paradise!

WOMEN IN THE GREEN ECONOMY. ROLE AND PROMOTION STRATEGIES OF INNER WHEEL, is the title of the Paper of Luisa Vinciguerra, connected with the Power Point Presentation.
Luisa Vinciguerra, Women for Europe, Naples November 2008Luisa Vinciguerra
The Cultural, International, Multi-Year Project “Women for Europe, the Role of Inner Wheel - Comparing Ways of Life and National Economic Systems”, fits well into the new ways of influence, which characterize the Inner Wheel Action in the XXI century. Promoted in 2008 by the IWC of Naples Luisa Bruni, the Project has introduced in our Association an interactive strategy, to work together and confront cultures of different Countries on “Women status”, with a double mission: “What policies Europe has activated for Women”, and “How IW Women can promote, through our Female Association, the knowledge and the implementation of these policies”.
6° EUROPEAN INNER WHEEL MEETING
GRAZ, 31 AUGUST – 2 SEPTEMBER 2012
CONNECTING
OUR INNER WHEEL FUTURE
abstract
The IW year of Catherine Refabert as IIW President will certainly be remembered for having fostered in our Association, a Communication Strategy, wide ranging, become indispensable and urgent. Many efforts have been made by President Catherine to that effect, from the opening of the new IIW web-site at the start of the Database, from the dedication of an entire Seminar on Communication, at the need to provide our Association of a Head of Communications. And this task was assigned to the Immediate Past President IIW, on duty (Catherine Refabert this year), which may also make use of collaborators in carrying out an area so important.
Build the Seminar Promoting Inner Wheel has been a task as necessary as complex. My new presentation in Graz, therefore, wants, in continuity, come back to some points exhibited in Istanbul, develop them with some interesting suggestions, in the certainty that the PPT related to this Seminar, available on the IIW website, have were viewed.
The Future of Communication in Inner Wheel depends on two factors:
1. The first is determined by the constant research and ongoing innovation in technology.
2. The second, by the ability of Inner Wheel to adapt itself not only to technological evolution but, above all, at the learning and regular use of these new technologies, despite the generational gap present in the Association.
The boom of mobile communications is one example.
In the coming years, the tablet will be connected, everytime - everywhere, with the mobile network.
The technological innovations - that will, further, CHANGE THE WAY WE COMMUNICATE, TO WRITE, TO THINK, TO ACT IN OUR ASSOCIATION - will be partly shaped by tools we use, and these tools, before related to the logic of computers and desktop machines, today are and will be increasingly mobile and connected to the Net.
So, the FOCUS of my presentation will be:
1. BRANDING
2. COMMUNICATION PLAN: FROM PUBLISHING TO INTEGRATED COMMUNICATION
3. THE WEB COMMUNICATION “GOING GLOBAL”
4. …TOWARDS THE CLOUD COMPUTING (just a mention…)

PAPER «FEEDING THE PLANET, ENERGY FOR LIFE -
The Role of Inner Wheel»
By Luisa Vinciguerra
IIW Board Director 20132014
Section: Sustainable Use of Nature Resources
The paper «FEEDING THE PLANET, ENERGY FOR LIFE - The Role of Inner Wheel» is
part of the section devoted to the Sustainable Use of Nature Resources and is linked
to the important event worldwide «EXPO MILANO 20151». We consider the theme of
the paper as vital and complementary to all those will be developed in this
Conference «LET’S LEAVE OUR CHILDREN A SUSTAINABLE PLANET».
Having nourished us across the millennia, it is now planet Earth that requires nurture,
in the form of respect, sustainable behaviours, the application of advanced
technologies and new political visions that will allow us to strike a new and better
balance between our resources and our consumption.
1 Expo Milano 2015 is a World or Universal exposition. World Expos take place every 5 years and have duration of 6
months. Participants include countries, international organizations, NGOs (as Inner Wheel and Rotary), corporations
and other institutions such as the European Union. The size of the site is unlimited and participants build their own
pavilions.
WfE5 - LUISA VINCIGUERRA - IIW BOARD DIRECTOR 1
2. One important challenge that Expo Milano 2015 will address in its Theme is that of
gender, seeking to highlight the role of women in relation to nutrition and food
safety/security, food production and preparation. The central role of women has been
recognized: the U.N. actively promotes enhanced access by women to resources,
credit, education and training as part of sustainable development projects.
The Theme ‘Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life’ sums up the most important issues
that human beings must address in an effective manner to safeguard life on the planet.
A balance between natural resources and the production of food and energy is a
fundamental condition for ensuring the survival of the system, with this balance being
globally recognized in the concept of ‘sustainable development’.
Important is also to go through, and deepen, the thematic itineraries. Generate and
spread knowledge and information about the relationship between natural resources,
food security, and biodiversity. Important is to promote innovation processes in the
technological , contributing to the development of human capital and professional
skills, especially in applied research.
WfE5 - LUISA VINCIGUERRA - IIW BOARD DIRECTOR 2
A) EXPLORE AND DEBATE
We invite Inner Wheel Clubs and other Bodies to explore and debate the theme of
EXPO 2015 «Feeding the planet, energy for life» and its interesting thematic
itineraries, identifying the quality and quantity of the initiatives that Inner Wheel
must implement in this area to play an active and effective role:
in accordance with the United Nations Millennium Development Goals2;
in continuation of the Programme Europe 2020: A European Strategy for
Smart, Sustainable, and Inclusive Growth;
in accordance with the Theme Statement of EU participation on the Expo
2015, that is Growing Europe’s future together for a better world3;
in accordance with the new vision4 of Inner Wheel.
2 The Expo Milano 2015 Theme is linked to certain objectives of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals,
including:
• The first: eradicate extreme poverty and hunger, and reduce by 50%, the proportion of people throughout the world
who suffer from hunger;
• The fourth: reduce by two thirds the mortality rate for children under the age of five years;
• The fifth: improve maternal health and, in particular, reduce the maternal mortality rate by three quarters;
• The seventh: ensure environmental sustainability, in particular by supporting sustainable development policies and
programmes in order to reverse the loss of environmental resources and reduce biodiversity loss;
• The eighth: develop a global partnership for development.
3 “Growing” connects with the agricultural theme of the Expo. “Growing Europe’s future” sets the EU’s goal: making
the EU more successful and better, in particular at addressing future challenges to the environment and the food
supply chain.
4 The new vision has inspired Projects dedicated as Women for Europe - the Role of Inner Wheel, now at the 5th
Edition; Inner Wheel Women for the World; Women for Africa - Role of Inner Wheel; and the Theme of IIW President
20132014 Gabriella Adami We, for Women.
3. WfE5 - LUISA VINCIGUERRA - IIW BOARD DIRECTOR 3
Because:
1. INNER WHEEL IS A NETWORK OF 100.000 WOMEN AROUND 103
COUNTRIES IN THE WORLD.
2. Our IW members often have worked and are working - like yesterday in Turin
and today here in Hanasaari - on the sustainability issues.
3. Our IW members can really continue to be leaders IN PROMOTING also the
food’s right worldwide
What future must be built together for the upcoming generations in terms of
sustainability?
Environmental sustainability is achieved via a new alliance between food and culture,
nourishment of the body and nurture of the mind and the freedom to use it.
Inner Wheel Women are called with the Women of the entire world upon to come
together to educate, teach and nurture a fairer, more balanced, more sustainable
planet, a planet open to the future…
for Happier Futures!
International Organisations can contribute to achieve the aims of Expo.
Food security and access to food resources are central to the work of some of the
most important Agencies of the United Nations, as the FAO, the IFAD and the WFP.
The United Nations will be present! And the fact that the deadline to meet the
objectives of the UN Millennium Development Goals falls in the same year as Expo
is of added significance.
The theme of food and nutrition adopted by Expo Milano 2015 will provide a
PLATFORM FOR DISCUSSION in which new objectives for a sustainable future
will be launched, where biodiversity is safeguarded while knowledge, traditions and
entire cultures are also protected.
And Inner Wheel?
Inner Wheel has to take an important position in this international debate.
Governments, Institutions, International Organisations, and also civil society, can
offer a positive contribution to finding new solutions for the common good. Inner
Wheel has to be present in the PLATFORM for formulating ideas and proposals
which will be the basis for future commitments and the Final declaration of the 2015
Universal Exposition.
IW Clubs, Districts, National Governing Bodies can intervene…
4. We want to involve the Inner Wheel Organization to promote an incisive action,
taking part in an interesting Project, reserved for women.
B) INNER WHEEL INSIDE «WE, WOMEN FOR EXPO»
We want to involve Inner Wheel worldwide to join the PROJECT: WE – Women
For Expo!
«WE WOMEN FOR EXPO» is a Project in collaboration with the Italian Ministry of
Foreign Affairs and the Arnoldo and Alberto Mondadori Foundation. This project
seeks to create a network of women reaching across the entire world: working all
together on the issues of nutrition, they can become leaders of change for the food’s
right.

Some stages of the Project:
The Recipe for Life: Drawing on memory and experience (personal, familial,
collective) our IW Members will share their recipe with WE - Women for Expo and
their ideas for promoting a new equilibrium between nurture and nutriment.
Ambassadors: our IW Members, involved in the theme of food and nutrition, will
promote and encourage the participation of as many women as possible, regardless of
their sphere of action, working together with them to valorize their stories, their
testimonies.
Leaders: Our IW Clubs, Districts, National Bodies will organize conferences on the
issues of nutrition responsibility, in contributing to the diffusion, awareness and
production of ideas for a more sustainable future, inviting women experts who fill
leadership positions in the international scientific community, in the business
community, in institutions and culture.
Writers: Our IW Members will be engaged to participate to “The World Novel”, a
mosaic of voices of leadership and excellence, written by many hands and
representative of each country.
Artists: Many IW Members are very talented. Women artists and creative minds
from all over the world will be called upon to create a collective visual itinerary on
the theme of nutriment, a bona fide artistic narrative titled “Global Creative
Thinking”.
THE MISSION
The mission of this Project, in connection with Expo 2015, is:
«create a network of Inner Wheel members reaching across the 103 Countries
with IW Clubs, working all together on the issues of nutrition for the food’s
right».
AIMS
We would like to involve our Inner Wheel Members in the future, where the Women
have a important role, because their creative and effective cooperation of thought and
action and their commitment can change the world.
We would like to see our Inner Wheel as signer of THE WOMEN’S CHARTER
will be a manifesto of values drafted, acted upon and collectively experienced by all
WE WOMEN, and bequeathed by Expo Milan 2015 to United Nations, as a
contribute to the fulfilment of development’s goals for post-2015.
6. A NETWORK OF INNER WHEEL MEMBERS THROUGH…
The Communication & Interaction will be facilitated through social networks by
opening a dedicated PAGE on Facebook, using Twitter and Linkedin, by connecting
to the official website of Expo.
