CEDA Top 10 Speeches Disruption Innovation 2011-2016Eva Balan-Vnuk
This speech discusses how connectivity and digital technologies have transformed society over the past 15 years. It notes that Australia is the first "smartphone nation", with over 50% of Australians owning a smartphone in the next few weeks. By 2026, the speaker predicts that being connected will be synonymous with being human. The speech also discusses how constant connectivity through mobile devices can amplify helplessness in both children and adults. However, it argues that relying on connections to others is important for future success. Businesses will need to embrace sharing and empowering connections between employees to thrive in this new environment where organizational charts and silos break down.
The document summarizes a presentation about business strategy and marketing given by Barry Forrester. It discusses 7 steps to business mastery including being great at marketing, testing and measuring marketing efforts, focusing on execution, developing a positive company culture, leading more and managing less, thinking outside-in, leveraging the internet, and continuously planning and adapting. It also provides an overview of procurement activities and contracts for a local council.
Talk UX: Designers Guilty By Association Lauren Currie
Designers: Guilty By Association
We are known for our stylistic gestures and whimsical, indulgent ideas, often created whilst wearing black polo necks. Taxi drivers think I design shoes for living. Most designers do. They design apps to help up find pizza faster and design sexy products that help us wake up on time.
We deserve better.
I’m one of many designers who are trying to reformulate the role design can play in the world. Using the design process to tackle many of the complex and serious problems facing our society. Some call it social design, service design or design activism. BUT the labels don’t matter. What does matter is the HOW.
How does this kind of design actually work and what does this mean for our future? Judging by the speed and enthusiasm with which design students are signing up for newly created courses on experience design, social and humanitarian design, more design activists and provocateurs will emerge in the future. It’s time to get responsible.

How To Harness The Power Of Startup EcosystemsScott Mackin
An excerpt of Scott Mackin's April 2018 Master's course on Startup Ecosystems with a focus on Barcelona's Startup Ecosystem given at Harbour.Space University.
The document contains advice on various business strategies and concepts, including measuring a woman's worth by her internal qualities rather than external metrics, developing an effective company mission statement, adapting to technological changes, and differentiating a business through its unique value proposition. It also contains warnings about dismissing new technologies and business ideas prematurely based on shortsighted views.
The document discusses the work of the Government Digital Service in designing digital services for the UK government. It notes that 1 in 5 phone calls to government helplines were due to failed online transactions, costing £1 billion per year. The Government Digital Service aims to design inclusive, user-focused services based on ten principles including starting with user needs, designing with data, and building for inclusion. Over 1,500 websites have been closed and consolidated onto GOV.UK to create a consistent user experience.

Some of our key accessibility ideas are back to front. The most important aspect of the accessibility of images isn't 'alt-text'. The number of disabled people who use assistive technologies is tiny compared with those who don't. And for many people video is more accessible than text, not less accessible.
In this CSUN 2014 talk, Professor Jonathan Hassell exposes 16 foundational things that all advocates “know” about accessibility as myths, using real user-research to show how they need to be replaced to properly serve today’s tablet and mobile-obsessed disabled and older users.

Meals on Wheels found it was perceived as too successful and had poor penetration into Millennial audiences. It sought to reinvigorate its brand and drive change across the organisation. Delegates will hear in just 15 minutes the story of how Meals on Wheels rebranded to give an optimistic outlook and put people are the center of its brand strategy. Having changed its messaging from the traditional guilt inducing tone, the voice is now positive and the brand is driving forward, steadily gaining momentum.
The document provides an overview of a presentation on 21st century real estate and office space trends. It discusses how office space has evolved from the past to today, driven by demographic, technological and economic changes. These changes include an aging workforce, increased mobility and remote work enabled by new technologies. The presentation also examines how these trends are transforming office design and the role of real estate brokers in helping clients find suitable office space.

This is Rhodri Samuel from Cranework's presentation which he gave during the 'Ignite: For Good' evening mySociety hosted on 29th October 2014 as part of the Bath Digital Festival. Description: Bath needs a space for art and design, conferences, learning and experimenting for people of all ages - and a great new cafe/bar and public space wouldn't hurt. We intend to bring all those things together in one unique facility, right on the river and within walking distance of the centre of this wonderful world heritage city.
Accessibility and inclusion means building environments that are accessible to all users regardless of ability. Steve Dering of Direct Access Consultancy has over 18 years of experience providing accessibility audits, consultancy, and support to architects and design teams. He helps clients like Expo 2020 Dubai and various schools, offices, and cultural venues incorporate accessibility and inclusive design best practices. This includes considering guidelines in Part M, BS 8300, and PAS 6463 on neurodiversity to ensure design supports people with hidden disabilities or neurodiverse conditions through features like appropriate lighting, acoustics, color contrast, and biophilic elements. The RIBA detailed design stage provides an opportunity to fully specify all accessibility aspects.
The document discusses trends affecting the future of retail and viability of high streets. It notes that since the 1970s, retail spending on high streets has declined 25% by 2000 due to a shift to large retailers and out-of-town shopping. Store closures have increased significantly since 2018. Only 40% of UK retail space is optimally used. Footfall on high streets has declined 20.5% from 2010 to 2019. Online retail sales now account for over 30% in the UK and over 10% in other European countries. Factors that influence high street vitality include retail offer, experience, appearance, place management, and adaptability. Location has more control over some factors like networks and partnerships than others like innovation

The document shows monthly retail sales data from January to July 2022 for Manchester and other UK cities compared to the same months in 2019 before the Covid pandemic. In early 2022, sales were down 40-42% in Manchester but have recovered, with July sales up 14% versus July 2019. Customer and transaction numbers followed a similar recovery trend in Manchester over 2022 compared to 2019. Retail categories like fashion and food & beverage saw the biggest growth relative to other categories from 2019 to 2022 in Manchester.
The commercial real estate investment market in the UK saw £16.7 billion in investment in Q1 2022, the highest first quarter total since 2015. Demand is huge in the industrial and build to rent sectors, while office demand seems subdued. Build to rent accounted for £5.3 billion or 9.3% of transaction volume in 2021, up from 2.5% in 2016. Forward funding yields for build to rent in central Manchester are between 4.25-4.5%, down from 4.75-5% in 2016. Operational costs vary significantly between build to rent properties in Manchester, from 21-34% of revenue.
The document discusses the benefits of exercise for mental health. Regular physical activity can help reduce anxiety and depression and improve mood and cognitive function. Exercise causes chemical changes in the brain that may help protect against mental illness and improve symptoms for those who already suffer from conditions like depression and anxiety.
The document contains a single instruction repeated over multiple lines: "Keep this space clear". It provides no other context or details, but stresses the importance of keeping a particular space clear through repetitive messaging.
Greater Manchester Development Update - Oldham CouncilPlace North West
The document outlines Oldham Council's plans to invest £285 million to regenerate the town center of Oldham, creating 2,000 new homes, 1,000 jobs, and 100 apprenticeships. The goals of the investment and regeneration projects are to build quality homes, provide learning and employment opportunities, and create a more diverse, green, and sustainable town center. Key projects include redeveloping the Spindles Town Square Shopping Centre, creating a new Town Centre Linear Park, and developing a new theatre and performance space.
