There’s a lot of history noted in the evolution of family systems of organization and structures of social life in the post 1940s (Perez & Colli, 2013).
The family system had been a focus of many dissertations of European and North American scholars since the 1940s drawn from theories culled from extensive field research developed in Africa, South America, Oceania, and Asia.
The momentum of using all this extensive research and knowledge into a set of tools that will eventually be the arsenal of future family business consultants may have stemmed from the efforts of Barbara S. Hollander.
Hollander published first empirical studies emphasizing the relationship between the family and the Business.
During the 1980s the family firm began to be perceived as a unique business form and was quite a discredited topic at that time according to John Davis when he was interviewed May 13, 2009.
Those who were practicing family business consulting at that time see themselves as “Business Doctors” who solved problems, theorized, performed research, and published articles on family firms.
Since the beginning, the whole exercise of legitimizing family business studies was mainly a professional and academic process mostly taking place in the United States. Richard Beckhard and Ivan Lansberg organized a meeting in 1982 to bring together people who shared the same concerns about the family business.
This meeting eventually led to the founding of the Family Firm Institute or FFI with Barbara Hollander being its first president and founder.
FFI was officially incorporated in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania with 22 founding members in 1986.

Organizational commitment is considered as a crucial factor that has a direct impact on
organizational outcomes. A systematic empirical study was carried out to address the existing contextual gap
and intellectual curiosity on gender differences in organizational commitment on apparel industry workers of Sri
Lanka. The main objective of the study was to investigate whether there is a significant difference among male
and female employees in terms of the level of organizational commitment in the apparel industry of Sri Lanka.
This is an analytical nature study and unit of analysis is individual employees. The survey method was utilized,
and 100 employees responded to the author developed questionnaire using random sampling technique. The
instrument used to measure organizational commitment was adopted by Allen and Meyers’ standard
questionnaire which consists of a multi-component model include; affective commitment, continuance
commitment, and normative commitment. Reliability and validity of the instruments used were assured. The
empirical findings revealed that there is no significant difference between male and female employees in terms
of organizational commitment in the apparel industry of Sri Lanka.

As user experience professionals, we are often expected to assume multiple roles when evaluating products and systems. UX professionals are asked to measure user performance, identify issues and provide recommendations to them. The most challenging aspect is not determining that performance is poor; it is identifying the source of the poor performance in order to provide a design solution.
Fortunately, many of the difficulties that users experience can be traced back to basic principles of cognitive science. Making design recommendations often requires that you understand the thought processes of users. In this panel discussion, three Cognitive Psychologists will demonstrate how fundamental principles of cognition can inform design solutions to many commonly occurring User Experience problems. We will review the latest advances in the measurement of user experience, including the measurement of implicit cognitive processes and how these affect user performance, and we will discuss how implicit assumptions by both users and designers often lead to user experience difficulties. 1.1 Meaning and Definitions of Organizing
The word ‘organization’ has come from the word ‘organism’ which means a structure of interrelated and interdependent parts. The parts or components of organization consist of men, machines, materials, methods, money, functions, authority and responsibility. The task of organization is to unite or integrate these components effectively for the purpose of attaining the common goal. Organization is the foundation upon which the whole organization is built. Without efficient organization, no management can perform its function smoothly. Sound organization contributes greatly to the continuity and the success of organization. A poor organization structure makes good performance impossible, no matter how good the individuals are.
The term organization connotes different things to different people. For example, to the sociologists, organization means a study of interactions of people, classes or hierarchy of an enterprise. To the psychologists organization means an attempt to explain, predict and influence the behavior of individuals in an enterprise. The word ‘organization’ is also used widely to connote a group of people and the structure of relationships. In order to understand the meaning and characteristics of organization, we shall study it under the following heads:
(1) Organization as a group of persons.
(2) Organization as a structure of relationship.
(3) Organization as a function of management.
(4) Organization as a process.
(1) Organization as a group of persons: Organization is viewed as a group of people contributing their efforts towards certain goal. The concept of organizing began at the early stages of human civilization when two or more persons began to cooperate and combine together for fulfilling their basic needs of food, clothing, shelter and protection of life. Organization begins when people combine efforts for some common purpose. Chester I Barnard defined organization “as an identifiable group of people contributing their efforts. An organization comes into existence when there are a number of persons in communication and relationship to each other and are willing to contribute towards a common Endeavour. The group of people lay down rules and regulations and the formal structure or relationship among themselves”.
(2) Organization as a structure of relationships: Some people view organization as a structure of relationship. Organization sets up the scope of activities of the enterprise by laying down the structure of relationships. If organization is merely recognized as ‘structure’, it will be viewed as a static thing used to explain formal relationships But an organization is a ‘dynamic’ entity consisting of individuals,. Means, objectives and relationships among the individuals. However, the use of the term structure to denote organization is not used independently, but is combined with the term organization either in the form of organization structure

The organizational environment consists of all elements existing outside the boundary of the organization that have the potential to affect and influence the organization. This environment consists of two layers: the task environment and the general environment.
The task environment is closer to the organization and includes the sectors that conduct day-to-day transactions with the organization and directly influence its basic operations and performance such as competitors, suppliers, and customers.
The general environment affects the organization indirectly. It includes social, economic, legal-political, international, natural, and technological factors that influence all organizations about equally.
2. Explain the strategies that managers use to help organizations adapt to an uncertain or turbulent environment.
The environment creates uncertainty for organization managers. Uncertainty means that managers do not have sufficient information about environmental factors to understand and predict environmental needs and changes. Two basic factors that influence uncertainty are the number of factors that affect the organization and the extent to which those factors change. Strategies to adapt to these changes in the environment include boundary-spanning roles, interorganizational partnerships, and mergers and joint ventures.
Boundary-spanning roles are assumed by people and/or departments that link and coordinate the organization with key elements in the external environment. Interorganizational partnerships are a popular strategy for adapting to the environment by reducing boundaries and increasing collaboration with other organizations. A merger is the combining of two or more organizations into one. A joint venture involves a strategic alliance or program by two or more organizations.
3. Define corporate culture.
Culture can be defined as the set of key values, beliefs, understandings, and norms shared by members of an organization. It can be analyzed at two levels. At the surface level are visible artifacts, which include things such as manner of dress, patterns of behavior, physical symbols, organizational ceremonies, and office layout. At a deeper, less obvious level are the expressed values and beliefs, which can be discerned from how people explain and justify what they do. These are values that members of the organization hold at a conscious level. They can be interpreted from the stories, language, and symbols that organization members use to represent them. Some values become so deeply embedded in a culture that members are no longer consciously aware of them. These basic, underlying assumptions and beliefs are the essence of culture and subconsciously guide behavior and decisions.

Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
