Weekly reflection 4 - FMP
This week was fairly slow in terms of problem solving, as I found myself having to seriously look at the amount of content I
plan to produce. Though I’m still determined to stick to my 5 episode format. I’m becoming increasingly aware that time
constraints might prevent that from becoming an eventuality. However, I will still aim for this format. But I will ensure that
at least one good, strong, solid episode of the series is produced. Most likely the pilot, and if time constraints prevent
making all the rest, I will still submit any additional scenes filmed as one shots and will submit the scripts for said episodes
to display all the planning that went into them. That said, I am very much hoping to produce five 3-10 minute episodes to
create a flowing narrative with a distinctive beginning, middle and end. Outside of that. The main area of problem solving I
looked at was casting constraints. Should any actors be unavailable for the full shoot, I’m working on ensuring that there
are contingencies in place for getting around this, such as stand ins, substitutes or altered scenes. This means that while
the overall narrative of the series will remain roughly the same, there is still some wiggle room for the plots and scene
structure of each individual episode to be changed during production. In order to accommodate the various schedules of
the cast and crew. I’m also starting to look into obtaining a full crew for this production, as I’m aware that a project of this
scale takes a lot of people to make work. Moving forward, I’m going to start expanding my problem solving to include
other potential issues, I’ll also begin to experiment with various microphones and cameras to determine which to use
during production, as well as which I should use to record the original soundtrack. Which I aim to have done and out of
the way as soon as possible. The project is slowly begging to take shape, but I think the idea of what is going to be made
needs more refining and it’s essential that I have a full cast soon, So I can start shooting as soon as possible. Though
editing won’t be as much of an issue as it could have been; since I have the software outside of college, and therefore can
edit during the production to save time. It might also be a good idea to start deciding on the layout of my opening titles
sequence, and what it will entail. I’m going to work with the soundtrack producer to devise an opening theme over the
next few days, which will help massively in deciding the tone for the credits and maybe even the series as a whole.
