Targets from last evaluations:
 Provide more scaffolding for peer
assessment when marking their draft
assessment
 Produce a SoW for R&J and think
about contentious topics
 Use 100% compliance techniques and
behaviour strategies to minimize
disruption.
Reflective Practice: how successful were the lessons?
Year 7
I taught three lessons with my year 7 class, one being an improvements
lesson and two focusing on analysis of adverts and starting to teach them
P.E.E paragraphs. For the improvements lesson, this was in accordance to
department policy, where after an assessment, they have to a lesson focusing
on their weaknesses. I focused on SPaG, and linked it with finding SPaG
mistakes with adverts. I found the lesson to be extremely cohesive, which fed
into the topic of adverts, and allowed them to think about presentational
devices. However, I did feel I could have made it more fun by possibly making
it competitive so that they could correct sentences. The other two lessons
were successful, they produced paragraphs analyzing adverts which can be
hard. I feel that I will carry out with honing on the skills of P.E.E adverts, but
make sure that they sufficient models and differentiated worksheets for those
who need it.
Year 8
I taught two lessons with my year 8 class, which focused on Act One, Scene
One of Romeo and Juliet. For the first lesson, I focused on Act One, Scene
One with Prince Escalus’s speech and Romeo’s use of binary opposites. I
took on board the advice that I would not have to go through every line, and
only selected key lines to look at. This would make sure that the pace of the
lesson would improve, and this was applauded by the class teacher. For my
second lesson, I got students to write PEE paragraphs on Act One Scene
One, but I felt that I could have planned it better so that we could go through
the example in detail. I do admit that I may have rushed this lesson, as I
decided to teach Act One Scene Two for my formal observation and was at a
loss deciding what to broach for Friday’s lesson.
Year 9
I taught two lessons with my year 9 class, which focused on an improvements
lesson and the start of An Inspector Calls. For the improvements lesson, this
was in line with department policy where I had to give feedback for their
assessments. Itried to design the lesson so that it was quite fun, especially as
I was going through SPaG problems. However, the design of the SPaG
exercise was quite chaotic, and lead to behaviour problems. The activity
involved me being the arbiter in whether the sentences had the correct
punctuation, which meant I was distracted whilst others were messing out. In
hindsight, I should have completed the exercise in a table, or checked it on
their table rather than one student at a time coming up. For the second
lesson, I found the lesson to be good, but I was quite unsure with how I
should deliver it because it was not my lesson. In the future, I need to
familiarize myself with the PPT, and think about how to deliver it. I also feel
that I need to be innovative when delivering the lessons on context before
actually teaching the play. I already have ideas using sweets or monopoly to
teach the theme of capitalism, socialism and communism,
Action Points:
 Make sure I am organized with lessons, and a clear idea on
learning outcomes
 Be innovative when delivering context lessons on An Inspector
Calls
 Don’t rush when scaffolding tasks – make sure the students have
the sufficient skills

Weekly lesson evaluations 22th - 26th feb

Weekly Lesson Evaluations prompt sheet Week beginning: 22 – 26th February 2016 Targets from last evaluations:  Provide more scaffolding for peer assessment when marking their draft assessment  Produce a SoW for R&J and think about contentious topics  Use 100% compliance techniques and behaviour strategies to minimize disruption. Reflective Practice: how successful were the lessons? Year 7 I taught three lessons with my year 7 class, one being an improvements lesson and two focusing on analysis of adverts and starting to teach them P.E.E paragraphs. For the improvements lesson, this was in accordance to department policy, where after an assessment, they have to a lesson focusing on their weaknesses. I focused on SPaG, and linked it with finding SPaG mistakes with adverts. I found the lesson to be extremely cohesive, which fed into the topic of adverts, and allowed them to think about presentational devices. However, I did feel I could have made it more fun by possibly making it competitive so that they could correct sentences. The other two lessons were successful, they produced paragraphs analyzing adverts which can be hard. I feel that I will carry out with honing on the skills of P.E.E adverts, but make sure that they sufficient models and differentiated worksheets for those who need it. Year 8 I taught two lessons with my year 8 class, which focused on Act One, Scene One of Romeo and Juliet. For the first lesson, I focused on Act One, Scene One with Prince Escalus’s speech and Romeo’s use of binary opposites. I took on board the advice that I would not have to go through every line, and only selected key lines to look at. This would make sure that the pace of the lesson would improve, and this was applauded by the class teacher. For my second lesson, I got students to write PEE paragraphs on Act One Scene One, but I felt that I could have planned it better so that we could go through the example in detail. I do admit that I may have rushed this lesson, as I decided to teach Act One Scene Two for my formal observation and was at a loss deciding what to broach for Friday’s lesson. Year 9 I taught two lessons with my year 9 class, which focused on an improvements lesson and the start of An Inspector Calls. For the improvements lesson, this was in line with department policy where I had to give feedback for their assessments. Itried to design the lesson so that it was quite fun, especially as I was going through SPaG problems. However, the design of the SPaG exercise was quite chaotic, and lead to behaviour problems. The activity involved me being the arbiter in whether the sentences had the correct punctuation, which meant I was distracted whilst others were messing out. In hindsight, I should have completed the exercise in a table, or checked it on their table rather than one student at a time coming up. For the second
  • 2. lesson, I found the lesson to be good, but I was quite unsure with how I should deliver it because it was not my lesson. In the future, I need to familiarize myself with the PPT, and think about how to deliver it. I also feel that I need to be innovative when delivering the lessons on context before actually teaching the play. I already have ideas using sweets or monopoly to teach the theme of capitalism, socialism and communism, Action Points:  Make sure I am organized with lessons, and a clear idea on learning outcomes  Be innovative when delivering context lessons on An Inspector Calls  Don’t rush when scaffolding tasks – make sure the students have the sufficient skills
