Care innovation living labs
- A structured test environment for innovative
technologies, products, services and concepts.
- Representative group of individuals in their own living
and working environment.
- Aim: to adjust and/or accelerate innovation and/or to
identify future needs.
Ingrid Lieten, Vice-Minister-President of the Government of Flanders and Flemish Minister for Innovation, Public
Investment, Media and Poverty Reduction
25. "
Means: care innovation living labs
- The living lab: one or more living lab platforms
- A platform consists of an infrastructure, a support structure
for the general operation and a test population.
- Already upon their submission, the platforms must be
accompanied by a portfolio of projects which allow the
launch of the platform.
- However, there should still be room for the implementation of
additional projects on the platform in the future.
Ingrid Lieten, Vice-Minister-President of the Government of Flanders and Flemish Minister for Innovation, Public
Investment, Media and Poverty Reduction
26. "
Means: care innovation living labs
Integrated, cooperative consortia
Territorial definition
Sufficient degree of diversity in care facilities, service
provision, test population (users and informal carers),
spatial planning, housing situation, ...
Spearhead approach: complementarity and
exchangeability of living labs
Ingrid Lieten, Vice-Minister-President of the Government of Flanders and Flemish Minister for Innovation, Public
Investment, Media and Poverty Reduction
27. "
Means: care innovation living labs

28. "
Means: care innovation living labs
Three calls spread over two phases.
First phase (2012): launch of two calls:
- call for living lab platforms + corresponding projects (appropriated
budget: € 6.02 M)
- call for knowledge gathering project (selection of the scientific
consortium (appropriated budget: € 0.93 M).
Second phase (2013): launch of a supplementary call (appropriated budget: € 2
M), including the possibility for new applicants who wish to use a supported
platform, to submit a project proposal.
Ingrid Lieten, Vice-Minister-President of the Government of Flanders and Flemish Minister for Innovation, Public
Investment, Media and Poverty Reduction
29. "
Means: care innovation living labs
For the platform and project proposals, the applying consortia
may be composed of cities and municipalities, companies and
social profit organisations with activities that are relevant for
the care sector.
The entire care and value chain (e.g. first line, second line,
hospitals, local administrations, housing companies, end
users, care economic actors, government, ...)
The applying consortium of a platform application must at
least contain a company and a city or municipality.
Ingrid Lieten, Vice-Minister-President of the Government of Flanders and Flemish Minister for Innovation, Public
Investment, Media and Poverty Reduction
30. "
Means: care innovation living labs
Multidisciplinary, cross-sectoral and transmural cooperation are important
conditions
Guarantee sufficient scale for the living lab to be able to realise an impact on
society in the long term
The consortium has to create a steering group/user committee, which will
be composed of cities and municipalities, companies, (transsectoral) care
providers, care users and informal carers.
Ingrid Lieten, Vice-Minister-President of the Government of Flanders and Flemish Minister for Innovation, Public
Investment, Media and Poverty Reduction
