Web Search Engine and Google
GOOGLE INC. HARVARD BUSINESS CASE #9–806–105
INTRODUCTION/BACKGROUND In December of 2005, six years after its founding and twenty–
one months after the company went public, search engine giant Google, Inc. had grown into not just
probably the world's biggest and most successful Internet companies, but also one of America's
biggest business success stories. Founded by two Stanford graduate students, Google was in many
ways the quintessential American business success story. Sergey Brin and Larry Page (Google's
founders) infused their start–up with an innovative, entrepreneurial culture and established an
organizational structure that supported innovation and risk taking. While Brin, Page and their fellow
"Googlers" pursued the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An exception to this lack of government intervention on the Web has been government efforts to
access Internet users' private data (including surfing habits) under the terms of the Patriot Act.
Google, along with Yahoo! and the other major search engines and web portals, are subject to
considerable government pressures to release information about users. It should be noted that there
are also now increasing signs that as technologies converge (e.g., the blending of
telecommunications and Web communications) and as competitors cross into each others' market
territories (e.g., cable and phone companies becoming involved in Internet services through
broadband products), more regulation of the Internet in the United States may be seen (Yang &
Crocket, 2005, p. 38). Outside of the United States, the Internet regulatory environment is more
restrictive. This is particularly true in emerging economies like China (where Google is anxious to
establish a foothold). In most non–democratic foreign environments, Internet companies and
Internet users must cope with massive government restrictions, including censorship and the
surrender of private user data. In other markets where there is not necessarily direct government
regulation or restriction, Google might find itself facing a certain amount of political backlash
because of its status as an iconic

This is down 2 percent from December. Google led the way with 11.8 billion of the total searches
(down 2 percent from December); Bing ended up with 2.7 billion (down 2 percent), followed close
by Yahoo with 2.5 billion (down 5 percent). Ask Network had 527 million searches (down 1
percent), followed by AOL with 277 million (down 3 percent). (Goodwin, 2012) Strengths Google is
renowned for its search engine technology and is second to none in the search engine marketplace as
it stands. Among its competitors (Yahoo, AOL, msn, infoseek, ask jeeves, etc.), Google quickly
became a household name as searchers discovered that it was not your average search engine.
Google set itself apart from its competition by providing more unique information in its searches
than the other available search engines. (Alex Harrison, 2011) Google has developed a strong brand
equity which tops the list of the world's most powerful brands averaging about 30% growth this
year. (Manjoo, NOV2011, Issue 160) Google occupies a place at the top of the minds of online
consumers. The word "Google" and "search" are used synonymously. A Google search has become
the most recognized method to find information on the internet. (Alex Harrison, 2011)

Ford created the first successful factory assembly line, so he had hundreds upon hundreds of
workers creating the Model T for cheap. Ford was the first person to give his workers time off on the

of working twenty–four seven at the factory, they would buy his car to travel long distances with
their families. At that is what most of his worker did. They bought his Model T, and Ford made more
money by allowing his workers time off than allowing they to stay and work at the factory. Ford was

obtain internet access. With more people having internet access at home, school, or place of work,
people would have more incentive to use Google and thus generating more revenue for Google.
Both companies were able to have created a way that everyone can afford to buy their necessary

Google 's Internet Search Engine
Google
Google is a huge multinational corporation that runs one of the most popular web services. Google's
Internet search engine allows users looking for the information online based on some keyword
queries. Google also offers a variety of other services in web and telecommunication areas. People
can use its offering to create blogs, websites, upload videos, create and share news items and many
more. It suggests social networking tools, services for business, mobile services, and even Google
branded goods. At the same time, it reportedly has some privacy issues. It collects personal data
from all its users to generate targeted advertisements. However, experts suggest that these data are
also used to profile people and spy on their personal lives. Therefore, the analysis of Google's
comprehensive services and operations allows stating that the company is one of the best ones.
However, it is also one of the most secretive organizations in the world.
Google as One of the World's Best Companies
About the Company
Larry Page and Sergey Brin founded Google in 1998. They started working together at Stanford
University on a search engine Backrub. In this engine, they first used the technique of using back–
links to estimate the webpage relevance. It later came to be a basis of Google search, the PageRank
algorithm. Google gained a worldwide popularity almost instantly; and by 2000, it had become one
of the world's top search engines. In 2001, it introduced its advertising services

Google : The World 's Largest Search Engine Essay
History
The company that I am looking into for the purchase of our company is Android. Android is owned
by a parent or founding company, Alphabet Inc. or more commonly known as Google. Google is the
world's largest search engine with more than 70 percent of the worldwide online search requests
being directed through them. The headquarters for Google are located within the United States in
Mountain View, California. California is well known to have a large sector in technology hosting
many other companies such as Apple.
In the United Stated internet was not accessible to the general public until the 1990's, so Google has
been able to make its fame relatively quick. Google began as just an online search site, but now
offers more than 50 other services and products, such as Email (Gmail), document sharing site
(Doc's), and was even fortunate enough to acquire a sector of mobile phones in 2012 from Motorola
Mobility.
Having the large diversity of products has landed Google a spot in the top four influential companies
within the high–tech industry. The other three include well–known names; Apple, IBM and
Microsoft. It wasn't until 2015 that Google made the move to become a subsidiary of Alphabet Inc. a
holding company. During this merger, all of Googles previous ventures stayed known as Google's
and any new endeavors are known to be a part of the Alphabet Inc. (Hosch & Hall, 2015)

Google A Web Based Search Engine For The Internet
Back in 1996 two students from Stanford University, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, credited a web–
based search engine for the internet. The program 's first name was Backrub and was later changed
to Google in 1998. Google is one of the best known and admired companies in the world. Their
search engine on the internet today usually gets 1 billion searches per day. Google grew from 10
employees working in a garage to over 10,000 employees worldwide. Google was the first to put the
customer first into their internet search engines. Their mission statement "To organize the world 's
information and to make it universally accessible and useful." Google makes it their commitment to
end–user needs. While all the other search engines were trying to increase they 're advertising
revenue. Google went the other direction and left just their search bar on the title screen and made
sure there were no ads. They resisted on pop–up advertising, they felt that it was annoying to the
users they insisted they would have sponsored links for their advertising. They really wanted to put
emphasize on improving customer experience than putting the revenue first. In order to compete
with Microsoft and Yahoo, Google wanted to employ the power of differentiation to create a
competitive advantage over its competitors. They wanted the advantage of having faster response
times, and greater scalability at lower costs on which making them the most used search engines in
the world.

Google Inc : A Search Engine
Introduction
Google Inc. started on September 8, 1998 with founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin. When Sergey
and Larry first started google they had no idea that it would become such a hit. For instance, When
Larry and Sergey were in college Google was nothing more than an experiment. After
experimenting with Google, it would later become the largest and most used search engine in the
World as well as one of the hottest tech companies to work, for. The company would not only
become the largest search engine in the, world, but it would also redefine the word search engine
and employer. As well redefining the word search engine and employer google would also introduce
new faces to the company.
Most people think of a search engine as a software system that is designed to search, for information
over the internet. Other people may think of a search engine to make their daily lives easier.
However, Google INC has done just that. Google has done both of those things by combining a
search engine with devices that many people use in their daily lives. Because Google has
incorporated such technology they have become very successful. For instance, Google is a United
State's based search engine that has grown into a multibillion dollar empire(GALE). In 2014 Google
was, so successful that its market share worldwide was 90 percent. In the United States its Market
share was 65 percent and in China and Russia its share was only about 2 percent and 26 percent.

Google 's New Generation Of Search Engines
Introduction
Silicon Valley is known for being the focal point of cutting edge advancement and improvement. It
is the home to various technology organizations and a continually developing populace of new
businesses. Google is one of the cutting edge developments that started in Silicon Valley by Stanford
University students Sergey Brin and Larry Page. Google was launched on September 4, 1998 as a
privately held company. The company pioneered the new generation of search engines that
determined a website 's relevance by the number of pages, and the importance of those pages, which
is different from the conventional search engines that ranked results.
Larry Page, Google 's co–founder, once described the "perfect search engine" as ... Show more

This advantage has manifested with the Google 's businesses and is the reason why it continues to
grow.
The company uses a system that group employees to carry out the necessary functions; for example,
the organization has a Sales Operations group, an Engineering and Design Team, and a Product
Management Team, among others. A flat organizational structure means that Google's employees,
teams or groups can bypass middle management and report directly to CEO Larry Page. Every
employee is conditioned to contribute innovative ideas. The organizational culture setting gives
those employees the opportunity to not hesitate when it comes to sharing their thoughts and
opinion. The general vibe at Google is warm on the grounds that the organizational culture maintains
a small–company–family feel, where individuals can easily talk and impart thoughts to each other,
including CEO Larry Page. In this manner, Google 's organizational culture supports excellence in
innovation through sharing of ideas and capability to rapidly respond to the market.
The assessment for Google 's financial performance was done; the assessment covered the last three
years on the income statement to analyze what areas the company improved or depreciated. Google
Finance has provided the information necessary to make those interpretation, the total revenue for
2016 was $90.2 billion which is a 16.9% increase from the 2015 where the total revenue was $74.9

Google And Bing 's Search Tools
Title of Your Report
"Google it!". No, but really, Google it.
After analyzing both Google and Bing's search tools, I've come to the conclusion that Google just
has more to offer. The tool that stands out the most and gave the best results was the "Verbatim"
option under "All results". When using it, Google will only display results specific to the user 's
search term or phrase. For example, when I search "Gerrymandering", no results containing
synonyms, similar terms, previously used websites, or words from the same stem will appear in my
results. When searching for a phrase such as "Gerrymandering in Maryland", the verbatim tool will
only show the user results with that exact phrase. No results containing those words separated
should appear. Another great search tool Google has to offer is the "Advanced search", found in the
upper right hand corner under the options button. This tool offers the user many ways to narrow
down their search to find the the exact result their looking for. Some Advanced search allows users
to search by language, region, last updated, file type, usage rights, site or domain name, where the
phrase appears on the site, ranging numbers, and exact words or phrases. This tool is extremely
beneficial to a searcher who knows exactly what they're looking for, but can't find it in a general
search.
While I find that Google offers a more efficient search engine, Bing has some unique search tools
itself. To start, when I search "Gerrymandering", I see

Information Is a Google Search Away
Before the Internet, if we wanted to find out information on a topic, we would have to check out a
book and weed through information we didn't necessarily need or want. In this modern age,
information is a Google search away. If someone wants to know how the Civil War started, all they
have to do is type it into the search box. This saves time and money. Another modern change is how
we take classes. For years we have taken traditional classes that have worked for us, but now there is
a new trend, online learning. Online courses are more cost effective, a better environment in which
to learn, and more time flexible than traditional learning. A student runs into a lot of different costs
because of a traditional class. One of the largest is the gas bill to and from school every day. With an
online class, there is no gas bill. The classroom is your home or other place you choose to do your
classwork. While Internet connectivity may cost a montly fee at home, this is far less than gas for
many students, and a computer is far cheaper than a car and insurance. Another financial burden is
class fees. My nephew attends a local community college and he had to pay almost 500 dollars in
class fees this semester alone. There are no fees for online classes. There is no grass fee, or student
lounge fee, there is only tuition and books. Cost effectiveness is only one of the many reasons to go
online.
Some people say that the main reason that the traditional classroom setting is better is

Google has become the new library to quickly access information. If a question pops up in our head,
we just have to Google it and we instantly get the answer. How did Google become so popular and
successful? The Google search engine became popular because of its superior algorithm that
produces quick and relevant search results. Google used its search engine 's popularity to capitalize
using ads called Adwords and AdSense. As a result, the Google search engine is the most successful
and widely used search engine in history.
The Google search engine was designed by two Stanford University graduates Larry Page and
Sergey Brin. An article in St. James Encyclopedia of Popular Culture entitled "Google" summarizes
the rise of Google 's popularity in society. According to the article, Google was initially called
BackRub, but was changed to Google in 1997; a mathematical term called googol, which is the
numerical one followed by one hundred zeros. The term reflects Page and Brin 's mission to

Google's PageRank
Introduction
Google is the most popular search engine used everywhere in the world. The significance of the
internet in globalization and digitalization of the business industry has seen Google search engine
become the most significant utility. To critically understand how Google operates its search service
to the excellent service provision platform it is, this analytical report will explore Google PageRank
as the building block of the search engine. By definition, PageRank (PR) is an algorithm that
establishes a ranking order for search results. The main objective of this report is to learn the basics
of web searching as well as the page rank ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another factor that makes this algorithm important is how companies can potentially use it to
improve their marketing processes. Basically, an understanding of how the Google search engine
ranks websites and how this ranking system impacts the outcome of search results is essential to
strategically positioning websites for greater audience. In other words, companies strive at best to
maximize their PageRank score as a strategy for marketing itself. According to Amy and Carl
(2004), PageRank has numerous connections to areas of mathematics and computer science
including matrix theory, numerical analysis, information retrieval and graph theory. The
mathematical context of this concept is that PageRank score of a webpage masks the probability that
a random web surfer will choose to view a specific webpage. This analysis therefore sets out to
explore the application of mathematical concepts in the functionality of the algorithm through
examples. In general, a PageRank is a numerical value that represents the significance of a webpage
in the internet in relation to a specific search.
PageRank Algorithm
Following the initial conceptualization of the PageRank algorithm by Larry Page and Sergey Brin,
the PageRank algorithm can be represented as;
Where, o is the PageRank value of a webpage A o is the PageRank values of pages that are linked to

The Ad Campaign By The Un Women Organization
The Ad campaign by the UN Women organisation began in March 2013 when two people,
Memac Ogilvy & Mather Dubai, who discovered widespread prevalence of sexism and
discrimination against women, based on genuine searches on the search engine Google. The
advertisements use four women from different cultures along with search results attached to their
faces. Below each face there is a message by the UN in relation to the searches being depicted.
To some extent most of the search results have been related to the cultural background of the
person they have been attached to. The campaign became famous instantly as it brought up huge
debates in the online communities along with highly reputable organisations covering it and
giving their support to it. People even started to post their own searches based on the search
terms as proof of the widespread racial and sexual discrimination against women. The creators
have associated these advertisements to Google searches as a way of convincing people that
these results have not been falsified and to prove to the viewers how women are being
discriminated based on their gender and racial background.
At first glance, it is clear to the viewer that these advertisements are using gender discrimination
and stereotyping as a way of conveying their message against gender discrimination as four
women have been placed into the advertisement with their mouths having been replaced by the

Google Search Engine
1. Summary
In this report we have chosen to analysis the innovation that is the 'Google Search Engine'. We have
chosen to base our report on the Google search engine; a revolutionary innovation that has
transformed the way in which the internet is used.
1.1 Introduction
Google began life as a research project between two Stanford University graduate students, Larry
Page and Sergey Brin in January, 1996. They hypothesized that developing a search engine that
analysed the relationships between websites would be more effective than merely counting the
words on a page. Thus, the Google search engine differs from other search engines as it uses a
programme that checks the amount of back links to a page, therefore assuming that those pages ...

This was the first sign of Google having a major impact on the industry.
Figure 1.1 in the appendices is a table showing the contributing factors which over the years have
made Google the success it is today.
From the analysis this table it is clear to see that since Google was launched they have gone from
strength to strength. They have continuously added new innovations to exceed their competitors and
gain such a large market share. (For more information on their competitors please see section 2.3, of
this report). The major innovations which have had such a great impact on the industry include
"Google's increase in language versions" (www.google.com) this enable users around the world to
search in their own language rather than English. This opened up the market available to Google and
subsequently they opened up many R&D departments over the last couple of years worldwide which
will aid their innovations.
Analysing the impact of Google was an interesting and intricate task due to the ambiguous and
undefined nature of the industry the company is in. In reality, is Google merely competing amongst
other search engines such as Yahoo, the internet as a whole or perhaps an even larger range of
industries? "Librarians, publishers, and aggregators alike often call Google their main competitor"
(C, Tenopir) The fact that librarians are now calling Google their main competitor shows the true

Differences Between Power Bi And Tableau
On the surface, it was difficult to discern the differences between Power BI and Tableau because
both tools provide similar functions of visualization. So, I decided to solve some common analytic
questions and see if there are differences in terms of user experience. A summary table is created, as
shown below, based on the questions solving experience. Power BI provides powerful functions
with moderate level of visualization, however, the learning curve to reach to intermediate level can
be largely steeper compared to Tableau. Many times, to even solve a very simple problem, a Data
Analysis Expressions (DAX) script was needed during the test. Same problem was solved by 3
times of clicking at Tableau. This DAX was more difficult to utilize compared to the Tableau's
scripting language and the absent of staunch Power BI user communities exacerbated the difficulty
when writing DAX scripts. The user communities for Power BI are currently in a nascent stage, and
many times, I had to go over the references which were mainly written for experienced
programmers. Unlike Power BI, Tableau have strong user communities and they provide a quick fix,
allowing a novice to solve intermediate level of questions. The absent of mature user community of
Power BI should not be overlooked. The availability and utilisation of user communities are very
important when choosing IT products, considering that web searching is the most common and
effective way when to learn new technology

How Small Business Owners Can Get to the Top of Google Search Results
20 Easy Ways You Can Improve Your Web Presence and Top Google's Search Results
Cover text: Small businesses don't have to be dwarfed by big businesses and their huge marketing
budgets. Use the tips and tricks found inside this ebook to improve your website, market yourself
better over social media, and find new ways to improve your organic search traffic.
Introduction
More than half of your total web traffic comes from organic search. A 2014 study found that for
most websites, around 65% of all the traffic they get each month can be attributed to users entering a
word or phrase in a search engine and clicking on links. That means, if you are not making the most
of your organic search ranking, you are only getting a tiny fraction of the web traffic you could be
getting.
Consumers that find your small business's website through organic search are often more likely to
make a purchase or visit your brick and mortar store than those who find your website through
advertisements. By plugging a word or phrase into that search engine (Google being the most
popular), they have already expressed interest in what you have to offer.
The problem is, of course, that many small businesses cannot find their links among those on the
first page of Google. Only 10% of all searchers actually click onto the second page of Google search
results. The vast majority of users will either find what they are looking for on the

Apple 's Siri And Google Voice Search
According to hubspot.com, an average of 12 billion web searches is conducted each month in the
US. SEO will become more important because it helps you drive quality traffic to your website, get
visibility, boost your brand exposure and lend your business the credibility it needs to succeed
(Gaurav Kumar, 2016). Marketers can not only say that SEO is far from dead, but also can say that
it is grown more complex and more important for business. Here are five SEO trends, which I think
will be crucial in the future. 1. Keyword Search is more conversational Conversational search has
grown in recent years. Apple's Siri and Google Voice Search are best examples. Conversational
search is more popular via mobile devices, especially when the mobile search has an increasing
share of all searches. As conversational search becomes more popular, link building and keyword
search to improve a page's ranking in the SERP are no longer valid. Instead, greater content starts
with a conversational word such as what, when or why would be easier shown on a search engine
result page. This is because Google is tweaking its search results to give better answers to the
queries asked by its users (Spencer Frandsen, 2015). In the future, there must be a growing number
of mobile users who are more likely and used to use conversational search. So building a good SEO
based on conversational words is the key to winning the game in the future. To do a good SEO job,
the first thing you need to know is

Nicholas Carr,Is Google Making Us Stupid?
Technology has become a powerful resource that changes our brain's activity. Nicholas Carr, the
author of "Is Google Making Us Stupid?" and a graduate from Harvard University, believes that
technology will have an overall negative impact on humans. However, Clive Thompson, the author
of "Smarter Than You Think: How Technology Is Changing Our Minds for the Better" and a
freelance contributor to well–known publications like the New York Times Magazine, disagrees
with Carr. Both authors agree that technology can be efficient and help accomplish tasks, but Carr
also accredits technology for decreasing the amount of concentration and contemplation possible by
the average human. Furthermore, Carr concludes that making the internet as our primary knowledge
source will decrease our ability to read books, long passages, and will diminish our learning
experience. However, Thompson conceives that humans will adapt to the latest changes and retain
what is valuable from the venerable times. Both authors are in accordance about the efficiency and
utility that modern technology yields. To enumerate, Carr states that "The Web has been a godsend
to [him] as a writer. Research that once required days in the stacks or periodical rooms of libraries
can now be done in minutes" (Carr, 314). With a few Google searches, one can find out virtually
anything they wanted to know. For example, it would take ages for the average human to look for a

Google Is A Search Engine Essay
Google is a search engine that is used as one of my primary resources on a daily basis, in my
personal, education and work environment. By doing so, I thought it would be an excellent choice to
research their history as well as the benefits offered to their employees to continue to be a successful
company in the business world. In January 1996, Google began as a research project by Larry Page
and Sergey Brin that met at Stanford University while pursuing their PhD. Because conventional
internet search engines ranked outcomes by calculating the number of times the search expressions
showed up on the page, these two young men conjectured about enhancing the system that would
explore the connections between websites. They originally named the internet based search engine
BackRub and renamed it to Google.com, on September 14, 1997 it was registered as a domain name
and incorporated on September 4, 1998 Google was derived by the misspelling of the word
"googol", which was the number one followed by one hundred zeros, that was selected to indicate
that the search engine was projected to provide a large capacity of information, that was responsible
by a man named Milton Sirotta. Before Google was incorporated, the co–founder of Sun
Microsystems, Andy Bechtolsheim contributed one hundred thousand to develop the search engine.
The operation was first based out of a garage that was rented to Page and Brin by a friend, Susan
Wojcicki, which was located in Menlo Park,

My Search Engine Preference is Google
When stricken with for a preferred means of searching I would prefer the Quintessential search
engine Google. My three reasons being, first Google's a mega search engine fetching superb hits
with hardly any I recognize as irrelevant. Lastly Google has such marvelous aesthetics for
separating ads from and results.
My superior keywords customized my search results. I specified a narrow aspect of a broad topic
with the keyword "jobs". I searched Google with distinctive keywords and phrases "jobs in Maine",
"jobs in southern Maine". I found the following four websites from these searches.
The first site I found www.careerbuilders.com a large well known job website. The other larger sites
www.Monster.com they have just about everything an out of a unemployed person would need to
get hired. Plus it has a lot of content but not specific for living in Maine. I discarded this site because
I wanted to see how a local Job site stacked up against the more well known sites. Number one
advantage of dealing with local employers, a user cannot feel as if one in a Million searching for a
job. When I applied to some of the post it was extremely complicated that is why I discarded larger
sites.
So I searched in Google for local job Assistance in Maine and came across Southern Maine Help
Wanted "www.southernmainehelpwanted.com". A web site that holds valid content and a award
winning job listing site serving Southern Maine. The content's valid current and helpful for someone

Investigation Of An Antitrust Violation Involving Google,...
The purpose of this assignment is to research a recent case of an antitrust investigation. I chose to
research a current case ongoing in the European Union regarding the investigation of an antitrust
violation involving Google, an extremely popular online search engine. As per the assignment
instructions, the following paragraphs will address and answer the specified questions. Google is an
extremely popular search engine on the internet. In case you've lived in a cave for the past fifteen
(15) years or so, a search engine is something a user inputs information into in order to find specific
information or web sites. The resulting "answers" will yield web sites that are relevant to the
inquiry. In February 2010, the European Union (EU) began investigating Google for antitrust
violations due to complaints received from three competitors: a British price comparison site
Foundem; a French legal search site ejustice.fr; and from Microsoft's Ciao, by Bing (Alazraki,
2010). Google's competitors allege that Google "stacks" its search algorithm so that sites that are
sponsored by or affiliated with their competitors are "ranked" in a low position. That is, their results
are listed after Google's preferred sites (Lardinois, 2013). Currently, Google has a 90% market share
in the EU, so the vast majority of the population is using their engine. If they are indeed "stacking"
their algorithm to ensure that only their preferred sites are displayed in the prime selections, then

A Google Search For The Term ' Muslim Women '
A Google search for the term 'Muslim women' greatly illustrates the impression and image of Islam
in western society; the page fills with pictures of women in coverings, most prevalently head–to–toe
black with just their eyes visible, with several women depicted in fetters. This shows the way the
western eye interprets Muslim women – constantly oppressed by the patriarchal, Islamic religion;
however, it is also a representation of the perceived strangeness of a society not entrenched in our
beliefs. The controversy of Muslim veiling is highly affected by western ideals, and discourse is
often based in Islamophobia; also, veiling's stance in feminism is often misconstrued as either a
guise for racism, or ignorance of non–western interpretations of liberation.
The controversy of Muslim veiling, even in Middle Eastern countries, is often interpreted through a
western lens, with a focus on the concept of 'modernity.' Besides from citing issues of patriarchal
discrimination with the veil, Islamic feminists argue for their unveiling as an acceptance of modern
times and more progressive society, claiming that the veil is tied to politics rather than religion;
women who see it as a political symbol say that, unveiled, they can avoid the "religious extremism
and racial separatism" associated with it (Read and Bartkowski 93).
However, this claim of modernism is a way of attacking the non–western tradition of veiling; many
of the same beliefs for the usage of the veil are commonly

Management Style
Google's human relations and human resource management styles have changed the way that
companies will be managed in the years to come. Google's model of motivation and leadership tears
down the traditional scientific management theory which focuses on results rather than the
employees who deliver those results. The Vice President of People Development at Google stated
that the company's strives "to create the happiest, most productive workplace in the world. It's less
about the aspiration to be No.1 in the world, and more that we want our employees and future
employees to love it here, because that's what's going to make us successful" (Smith,2014). Google
shows employees they are valued and constantly motivates them in the workplace by creating a
culture that fulfills their needs in all aspects. The office design, the management style, policies, and
perks/benefits all put the employee first.
Google's organizational structure is less about control and meeting goals set by the company. The
company is more focused on employees meeting the objectives that they have set for themselves.
Google takes some aspects of the Laissez Faire style of leadership as all employees are given
freedom to create and determine their own deadlines and ideas for projects. The managers act

Search Techniques Used By Google Scholar
When searching the above four databases the search techniques I used were: After selecting a topic
the next step is to identify, in a structured way, the appropriate and related information. A systematic

most ordinarily utilizing PCs and electronic databases. PC databases offer access to immense

Google : An Internet Search Engine
Google, a company that started out as an internet search engine, has grown in to a global corporation
whose name now often used as a verb, commands respect. Their number one philosophy was and
still is to focus on the end user as they strive to complete their mission of organizing the world's
information and making it accessible (Google, n.d.a). Wanting to remain a private company, Google
found themselves at a crossroad. Due to its size and the fact that it had 500 shareholders, Google
faced having to become a publicly reporting company. Google had three choices; restructure to get
below 500 shareholders by buying back shares from its employees, continue being a private
company but report earnings as a public company, or go public (Schmidt, 2010). In April 2004
Google announced its intention of taking the company public (Choo, 2005; Schmidt, 2010). What
followed can best be described as a "uniquely Googley" experience (Schmidt, 2010, p. 108) as the
company prepared for an initial public offering (IPO) while facing uncertainty, skepticism, law suits,
and complete disruption during the activities leading up to the IPO.
Conversion Process
Google's conversion from a private to a public company was a daunting process. In accordance with
the registration rules governed under the Securities Act of 1933, Google submitted the required
documents and forms to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). The prospectus, intended

Web Search Engine And Google

  • 1. Web Search Engine and Google GOOGLE INC. HARVARD BUSINESS CASE #9–806–105 INTRODUCTION/BACKGROUND In December of 2005, six years after its founding and twenty– one months after the company went public, search engine giant Google, Inc. had grown into not just probably the world's biggest and most successful Internet companies, but also one of America's biggest business success stories. Founded by two Stanford graduate students, Google was in many ways the quintessential American business success story. Sergey Brin and Larry Page (Google's founders) infused their start–up with an innovative, entrepreneurial culture and established an organizational structure that supported innovation and risk taking. While Brin, Page and their fellow "Googlers" pursued the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An exception to this lack of government intervention on the Web has been government efforts to access Internet users' private data (including surfing habits) under the terms of the Patriot Act. Google, along with Yahoo! and the other major search engines and web portals, are subject to considerable government pressures to release information about users. It should be noted that there are also now increasing signs that as technologies converge (e.g., the blending of telecommunications and Web communications) and as competitors cross into each others' market territories (e.g., cable and phone companies becoming involved in Internet services through broadband products), more regulation of the Internet in the United States may be seen (Yang & Crocket, 2005, p. 38). Outside of the United States, the Internet regulatory environment is more restrictive. This is particularly true in emerging economies like China (where Google is anxious to establish a foothold). In most non–democratic foreign environments, Internet companies and Internet users must cope with massive government restrictions, including censorship and the surrender of private user data. In other markets where there is not necessarily direct government regulation or restriction, Google might find itself facing a certain amount of political backlash because of its status as an iconic ... (Goodwin, 2012) Strengths Google is renowned for its search engine technology and is second to none in the search engine marketplace as it stands. Android is owned by a parent or founding company, Alphabet Inc. or more commonly known as Google. Google is the world's largest search engine with more than 70 percent of the worldwide online search requests being directed through them. The headquarters for Google are located within the United States in Mountain View, California. California is well known to have a large sector in technology hosting many other companies such as Apple. In the United Stated internet was not accessible to the general public until the 1990's, so Google has been able to make its fame relatively quick. Google began as just an online search site, but now offers more than 50 other services and products, such as Email (Gmail), document sharing site (Doc's), and was even fortunate enough to acquire a sector of mobile phones in 2012 from Motorola Mobility. Having the large diversity of products has landed Google a spot in the top four influential companies within the high–tech industry. The other three include well–known names; Apple, IBM and Microsoft. It wasn't until 2015 that Google made the move to become a subsidiary of Alphabet Inc. a holding company. During this merger, all of Googles previous ventures stayed known as Google's and any new endeavors are known to be a part of the Alphabet Inc. Google makes it their commitment to end–user needs. While all the other search engines were trying to increase they 're advertising revenue. Google went the other direction and left just their search bar on the title screen and made sure there were no ads. The company would not only become the largest search engine in the, world, but it would also redefine the word search engine and employer. As well redefining the word search engine and employer google would also introduce new faces to the company. Most people think of a search engine as a software system that is designed to search, for information over the internet. Other people may think of a search engine to make their daily lives easier. However, Google INC has done just that. Google has done both of those things by combining a search engine with devices that many people use in their daily lives. It is the home to various technology organizations and a continually developing populace of new businesses. Google is one of the cutting edge developments that started in Silicon Valley by Stanford University students Sergey Brin and Larry Page. Google was launched on September 4, 1998 as a privately held company. The company pioneered the new generation of search engines that determined a website 's relevance by the number of pages, and the importance of those pages, which is different from the conventional search engines that ranked results. • 21. Google And Bing 's Search Tools Title of Your Report "Google it!". No, but really, Google it. After analyzing both Google and Bing's search tools, I've come to the conclusion that Google just has more to offer. The tool that stands out the most and gave the best results was the "Verbatim" option under "All results". When using it, Google will only display results specific to the user 's search term or phrase. For example, when I search "Gerrymandering", no results containing synonyms, similar terms, previously used websites, or words from the same stem will appear in my results. When searching for a phrase such as "Gerrymandering in Maryland", the verbatim tool will only show the user results with that exact phrase. No results containing those words separated should appear. Another great search tool Google has to offer is the "Advanced search", found in the upper right hand corner under the options button. This tool offers the user many ways to narrow down their search to find the the exact result their looking for. Some Advanced search allows users to search by language, region, last updated, file type, usage rights, site or domain name, where the phrase appears on the site, ranging numbers, and exact words or phrases. This tool is extremely beneficial to a searcher who knows exactly what they're looking for, but can't find it in a general search. While I find that Google offers a more efficient search engine, Bing has some unique search tools itself. To start, when I search "Gerrymandering", I see ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Information Is a Google Search Away Before the Internet, if we wanted to find out information on a topic, we would have to check out a book and weed through information we didn't necessarily need or want. In this modern age, information is a Google search away. If someone wants to know how the Civil War started, all they have to do is type it into the search box. This saves time and money. Another modern change is how we take classes. For years we have taken traditional classes that have worked for us, but now there is a new trend, online learning. Online courses are more cost effective, a better environment in which to learn, and more time flexible than traditional learning. A student runs into a lot of different costs because of a traditional class. One of the largest is the gas bill to and from school every day. With an online class, there is no gas bill. The classroom is your home or other place you choose to do your classwork. While Internet connectivity may cost a montly fee at home, this is far less than gas for many students, and a computer is far cheaper than a car and insurance. Another financial burden is class fees. My nephew attends a local community college and he had to pay almost 500 dollars in class fees this semester alone. There are no fees for online classes. There is no grass fee, or student lounge fee, there is only tuition and books. Cost effectiveness is only one of the many reasons to go online. Google 's Building Block Of The Search Engine Google's PageRank Kerim Ozturk College of Charleston 4/26/2017 Google's PageRank Introduction Google is the most popular search engine used everywhere in the world. The significance of the internet in globalization and digitalization of the business industry has seen Google search engine become the most significant utility. To critically understand how Google operates its search service to the excellent service provision platform it is, this analytical report will explore Google PageRank as the building block of the search engine. By definition, PageRank (PR) is an algorithm that establishes a ranking order for search results. Another factor that makes this algorithm important is how companies can potentially use it to improve their marketing processes. Basically, an understanding of how the Google search engine ranks websites and how this ranking system impacts the outcome of search results is essential to strategically positioning websites for greater audience. In other words, companies strive at best to maximize their PageRank score as a strategy for marketing itself. According to Amy and Carl (2004), PageRank has numerous connections to areas of mathematics and computer science including matrix theory, numerical analysis, information retrieval and graph theory. The mathematical context of this concept is that PageRank score of a webpage masks the probability that a random web surfer will choose to view a specific webpage. This analysis therefore sets out to explore the application of mathematical concepts in the functionality of the algorithm through examples. In general, a PageRank is a numerical value that represents the significance of a webpage in the internet in relation to a specific search. The advertisements use four women from different cultures along with search results attached to their faces. Below each face there is a message by the UN in relation to the searches being depicted. To some extent most of the search results have been related to the cultural background of the person they have been attached to. The campaign became famous instantly as it brought up huge debates in the online communities along with highly reputable organisations covering it and giving their support to it. People even started to post their own searches based on the search terms as proof of the widespread racial and sexual discrimination against women. The creators have associated these advertisements to Google searches as a way of convincing people that these results have not been falsified and to prove to the viewers how women are being discriminated based on their gender and racial background. At first glance, it is clear to the viewer that these advertisements are using gender discrimination and stereotyping as a way of conveying their message against gender discrimination as four women have been placed into the advertisement with their mouths having been replaced by the google search bar and results. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This was the first sign of Google having a major impact on the industry. Figure 1.1 in the appendices is a table showing the contributing factors which over the years have made Google the success it is today. From the analysis this table it is clear to see that since Google was launched they have gone from strength to strength. They have continuously added new innovations to exceed their competitors and gain such a large market share. (For more information on their competitors please see section 2.3, of this report). The major innovations which have had such a great impact on the industry include "Google's increase in language versions" (www.google.com) this enable users around the world to search in their own language rather than English. This opened up the market available to Google and subsequently they opened up many R&D departments over the last couple of years worldwide which will aid their innovations. Analysing the impact of Google was an interesting and intricate task due to the ambiguous and undefined nature of the industry the company is in. In reality, is Google merely competing amongst other search engines such as Yahoo, the internet as a whole or perhaps an even larger range of industries? "Librarians, publishers, and aggregators alike often call Google their main competitor" (C, Tenopir) The fact that librarians are now calling Google their main competitor shows the true ... Differences Between Power Bi And Tableau On the surface, it was difficult to discern the differences between Power BI and Tableau because both tools provide similar functions of visualization. So, I decided to solve some common analytic questions and see if there are differences in terms of user experience. A summary table is created, as shown below, based on the questions solving experience. Power BI provides powerful functions with moderate level of visualization, however, the learning curve to reach to intermediate level can be largely steeper compared to Tableau. Many times, to even solve a very simple problem, a Data Analysis Expressions (DAX) script was needed during the test. Same problem was solved by 3 times of clicking at Tableau. This DAX was more difficult to utilize compared to the Tableau's scripting language and the absent of staunch Power BI user communities exacerbated the difficulty when writing DAX scripts. The user communities for Power BI are currently in a nascent stage, and many times, I had to go over the references which were mainly written for experienced programmers. Unlike Power BI, Tableau have strong user communities and they provide a quick fix, allowing a novice to solve intermediate level of questions. The absent of mature user community of Power BI should not be overlooked. The availability and utilisation of user communities are very important when choosing IT products, considering that web searching is the most common and effective way when to learn new technology ... How Small Business Owners Can Get At The Top Of Google Search How Small Business Owners Can Get to the Top of Google Search Results 20 Easy Ways You Can Improve Your Web Presence and Top Google's Search Results Cover text: Small businesses don't have to be dwarfed by big businesses and their huge marketing budgets. Use the tips and tricks found inside this ebook to improve your website, market yourself better over social media, and find new ways to improve your organic search traffic. Introduction More than half of your total web traffic comes from organic search. A 2014 study found that for most websites, around 65% of all the traffic they get each month can be attributed to users entering a word or phrase in a search engine and clicking on links. That means, if you are not making the most of your organic search ranking, you are only getting a tiny fraction of the web traffic you could be getting. Consumers that find your small business's website through organic search are often more likely to make a purchase or visit your brick and mortar store than those who find your website through advertisements. By plugging a word or phrase into that search engine (Google being the most popular), they have already expressed interest in what you have to offer. The problem is, of course, that many small businesses cannot find their links among those on the first page of Google. Only 10% of all searchers actually click onto the second page of Google search results. The vast majority of users will either find what they are looking for on the ... SEO will become more important because it helps you drive quality traffic to your website, get visibility, boost your brand exposure and lend your business the credibility it needs to succeed (Gaurav Kumar, 2016). Marketers can not only say that SEO is far from dead, but also can say that it is grown more complex and more important for business. Here are five SEO trends, which I think will be crucial in the future. 1. Keyword Search is more conversational Conversational search has grown in recent years. Apple's Siri and Google Voice Search are best examples. Conversational search is more popular via mobile devices, especially when the mobile search has an increasing share of all searches. As conversational search becomes more popular, link building and keyword search to improve a page's ranking in the SERP are no longer valid. Instead, greater content starts with a conversational word such as what, when or why would be easier shown on a search engine result page. This is because Google is tweaking its search results to give better answers to the queries asked by its users (Spencer Frandsen, 2015). In the future, there must be a growing number of mobile users who are more likely and used to use conversational search. So building a good SEO based on conversational words is the key to winning the game in the future. To do a good SEO job, the first thing you need to know is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Both authors agree that technology can be efficient and help accomplish tasks, but Carr also accredits technology for decreasing the amount of concentration and contemplation possible by the average human. Furthermore, Carr concludes that making the internet as our primary knowledge source will decrease our ability to read books, long passages, and will diminish our learning experience. By doing so, I thought it would be an excellent choice to research their history as well as the benefits offered to their employees to continue to be a successful company in the business world. In January 1996, Google began as a research project by Larry Page and Sergey Brin that met at Stanford University while pursuing their PhD. Because conventional internet search engines ranked outcomes by calculating the number of times the search expressions showed up on the page, these two young men conjectured about enhancing the system that would explore the connections between websites. They originally named the internet based search engine BackRub and renamed it to Google.com, on September 14, 1997 it was registered as a domain name and incorporated on September 4, 1998 Google was derived by the misspelling of the word "googol", which was the number one followed by one hundred zeros, that was selected to indicate that the search engine was projected to provide a large capacity of information, that was responsible by a man named Milton Sirotta. I chose to research a current case ongoing in the European Union regarding the investigation of an antitrust violation involving Google, an extremely popular online search engine. As per the assignment instructions, the following paragraphs will address and answer the specified questions. Google is an extremely popular search engine on the internet. In case you've lived in a cave for the past fifteen (15) years or so, a search engine is something a user inputs information into in order to find specific information or web sites. The resulting "answers" will yield web sites that are relevant to the inquiry. In February 2010, the European Union (EU) began investigating Google for antitrust violations due to complaints received from three competitors: a British price comparison site Foundem; a French legal search site ejustice.fr; and from Microsoft's Ciao, by Bing (Alazraki, 2010). Google's competitors allege that Google "stacks" its search algorithm so that sites that are sponsored by or affiliated with their competitors are "ranked" in a low position. That is, their results are listed after Google's preferred sites (Lardinois, 2013). Currently, Google has a 90% market share in the EU, so the vast majority of the population is using their engine. • 59. A Google Search For The Term ' Muslim Women ' A Google search for the term 'Muslim women' greatly illustrates the impression and image of Islam in western society; the page fills with pictures of women in coverings, most prevalently head–to–toe black with just their eyes visible, with several women depicted in fetters. This shows the way the western eye interprets Muslim women – constantly oppressed by the patriarchal, Islamic religion; however, it is also a representation of the perceived strangeness of a society not entrenched in our beliefs. The controversy of Muslim veiling is highly affected by western ideals, and discourse is often based in Islamophobia; also, veiling's stance in feminism is often misconstrued as either a guise for racism, or ignorance of non–western interpretations of liberation. The controversy of Muslim veiling, even in Middle Eastern countries, is often interpreted through a western lens, with a focus on the concept of 'modernity.' Besides from citing issues of patriarchal discrimination with the veil, Islamic feminists argue for their unveiling as an acceptance of modern times and more progressive society, claiming that the veil is tied to politics rather than religion; women who see it as a political symbol say that, unveiled, they can avoid the "religious extremism and racial separatism" associated with it (Read and Bartkowski 93). What followed can best be described as a "uniquely Googley" experience (Schmidt, 2010, p. 108) as the company prepared for an initial public offering (IPO) while facing uncertainty, skepticism, law suits, and complete disruption during the activities leading up to the IPO. Conversion Process Google's conversion from a private to a public company was a daunting process. In accordance with the registration rules governed under the Securities Act of 1933, Google submitted the required documents and forms to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). The prospectus, intended to assist potential investors with all of the necessary ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
