3. Watch the following local weather broadcasts. Think about:
•What makes it engaging?
There various of photographs taken by people from different regions showing each weathers during the day. Each pics are in
different angles as this engages the audience to take part. The interaction to the audience, a mixture of genders in the local areas.
The hand gestures, with the interchanging with the presenter Also, at the bottom of the right, it has a small graphic which is
displayed to show the audience where its taken and a small image of the weather. The weather reporter gives out a calming tone
to the audience and how she demonstrates each weather throughout the day.
• At what speed do they convey the message?
The speed was understandable giving the audience to have enough information she gives out. She gives out the key points to
emphasis each words she tells the audience
•How do they emphasise their point - verbally and physically?
She uses her hand gestures to show the audience that she is confident and she knows what she is talking about as she has
experienced this. The way she spoke to the people suggests that she is welcoming the audience -this shows that the audience can
trust her and what the news weather is display

4. Weather Report - Genre
⦿ In the weather report, the genre shows the studio setting - professional
⦿ Green screen / blue screen on which to overlay the graphics
⦿ She wears a professional clothing – formal code of dress
⦿ Graphics to add clarity and reinforce
⦿ Led with a story - always “dull and drab” uses alliteration

⦿ The BBC logo to re-ensure the audience to show the institution
⦿ The representation of a diverse presenters/reporters.
⦿ The rule of third – in the left hand corner to report the weather to allows the audience to see.

6. In this still, she uses a alliteration to
describe the super moon, this is
shown for the audience to see on the
screen. The colours that are displayed
at the bottom right represents of their
house style /colours – red and white.
These colours are clear and bright, this
overlaps the image which makes it
easier for the audience to see and it’s
red & white, brand identity of the BBC
News house colour
General news of the local area –
morning, afternoon and evening. This
engages the audience to take images
from their regions, meaning they are
be part of the news. The pics from the
beginning has various of quirky shots.

7. Weather Report - Language

⦿ Welcoming tone, this shows the audience can trust the reporter
⦿ Her body language gives a comfortable stand - shows that she is confident and positive
⦿ We see her in a medium/long shot - to see her clearly
⦿ She exaggerates her words to add meaning

⦿ Personal pronouns - giving advice to the audience, "bring a coat or an umbrella"

8. This second still, we see the weather
reporter wearing formal clothes - a
white blouse with a yellow shirt along
with accessories.
Also, this still is from another region
as it tells me on the bottom right
because of the graphic it's shown. This
shot of the trees is different to the
previous still of the moon. It has a
quirky angled shot which shows the
lights of the sun. The contrast shows
the greenery of West Midlands and it
was taken by someone from
Staffordshire.

the day and the time, this informs the
audience to follow and to be ready on
