Limescale Research Paper
Whether you have a tankless water heater or a standard water heater, they can develop limescale.
Limescale causes rock layers to form on the bottom of the tank, which will make the heater run less
efficiently. A water heater that has lime buildup commonly make popping or hissing noises. It is
possible to remove the limescale by following these tips.
Prepare to Remove the Limescale
To flush limescale from the water heater, gather:
rubber gloves scrub brush adjustable wrench funnel garden hose wire coat hanger pipe compound
descale solution
Shut off an electric water heater from the main electrical panel. For extra safety, test for a current
with a multimeter.

Straighten a wire coat hanger, and insert the pointed end into the drain valve. Clean as much
limescale as possible with the wire, and replace damaged valves.
Connect a garden hose to the drain valve, and lay the free end of the hose in a sink or outside.
.Ensure the hose has no kinks and slants down. Allow the water to drain, which commonly takes
about forty minutes. If the water seems slow, shake the hose.
Clean the Tank
Find the anode rod, a recessed bolt, which is commonly on top of the water heater. Remove the hex
screw with an Allen wrench., and set the parts aside.
Fill the tank with three or four cups of apple cider vinegar. Apple cider vinegar has acidcontent that
breaks down limescale, which white vinegar lacks.
Let the vinegar stay in the tank for twenty four to forty eight hours, but no longer than forty eight
hours. Set a bucket under the drain valve, and keep the drain valve open, so the solution will pour
out.
Flush the tank with clean water to rid the system of vinegar and remaining lime scale. Check inside
the drain valve opening for lime scale remnants, and scrape them with wire. Rub some pipe
compound on the drain valve threads, and reinstall

The Spanish Cuisine Of Spain
The culture of Spain is very diverse and lively. It is filled with beautiful colors like the dresses of
the Flamenco dancers, or the decorations in the late night fiestas. Last year my school had a
foreign exchange student from a little island off the coast of Spain. Her name was MarГa. She told
us all about the crystal blue water that surrounded her island, and the fiestas her and her friends and
familywould go to until 3 A.M. Spainis a beautiful country, and this paper will explain its most
important habits, customs, and differences to American culture. The Spanish cuisineis a mystery in
itself. Not only does the food differ from American cuisine, but also the customs of when it is eaten.

The flamenco was the passionate dance of romance. Finally, the Paso Doble was a simple one
step dance. Most of the literature we talked about was poetry, prose, or drama. For one of our
units my teacher made us write out our own fairytale, and we had to read it to the class. One of
my favorite websites I found for information was commisceo global, and they explained the
cultural aspects of Spain. 94% of Spaniards are Roman Catholic, and usually in many small
towns, the biggest, grandest building in the town is the church. Also, most holidays were created
for religious reasons, like Three King s Day (January 6) or Holy Week (late March early April).
When MarГa was in Minnesota she did not go to church on Sundays, but she still participated in
our local youth group. The next cultural aspect this website focused on was family and gender. It
explained that most families consisted of immediate and extended, which helps with financial
stability and raising children. Children were also one of the topics focused on. They say that
children were the prized possessions of the families. They usually started school around 6 and went
to school until they were 16. After school, they could either join the workforce, further their
educations in high school, or do vocational training. Adult men and women had their own roles
while their children were in school. Although they shared the responsibilities of parenting and
house work, women were usually in

Joseph Stalin vs. Maximilien Robespierre Essays
Robespierre is known as possibly the greatest leader of the French Revolution. Stalin is known as
one of Russia s greatest leaders. There are many differences and similarities in each of their reigns
as leaders. Both used economic plans and total war effort as a campaign to further there revolution.
Stalinand Robespierre used their revolutions, however, through terror Stalin remained true to his
revolution but Robespierre betrayed his.
Stalin had an ingenious plan to help his country s economy get back on track. He called this plan
the Five Year Plan which consisted of four parts. First was a plan to increase industrial output in
five years because Russia was far behind the Great Powers of Europe. Second ... Show more content

This resulted in extreme patriotism and nationalism amongst the French people.
With every great leader there are great supporters as well as great enemies. This was especially
true with Stalin and Robespierre. The French aristocracy was a major block for Robespierre
because the opposed his love and giving freedom of the lower classes. Robespierre set out a reign
of terror directed to those who may oppose the revolutionary government. He became obsessed
with his power to control those who could be put to death for opposing him and he executed those
who were close to him in power. Eventually he was shut out and executed for betraying the
revolution.
Stalin similarly executed the minority groups that opposed him. His reign of terror was similar to
Robespierre except that Stalin had several key strengths. A few important ones are that he was
street smart and connected well with the common people. Another was that he was a great public
speaker and could appeal to the masses and majority through his voice. Finally he was
manipulative and shrewd, he was able to convince others he was the right leader and he was clever
enough to appeal to the correct people.
Robespierre used total war effort to help further the French Revolution but gave into terror and
power to meet his downfall as one of the greatest leaders in the French Revolution. Stalin developed

The Politics Of The Founding Fathers Time
Politics is defined as the activities associated with the governance of a country or other area,
especially the debate or conflict among individuals or parties having or hoping to achieve power. I
think this definition is perfect for American politics. Our government is constantly changing. There
are new members of governmentbeing voted in, committees trying to get their ideas voted into law,
and the Supreme Court is constantly interrupting the Constitution in new ways for our ever
changing society. This all is included in the debate and conflict of parties trying to gain a foothold
of power in our ever changing democracy. I think democracy looks far different today than in the
founding fathers time. I am excited to further discuss my thoughts in this reflection paper. The first
topics I would like to discuss are from the first chapter. The book briefly touches on the concept of
globalization as the increasing communication and interdependence of people, countries and
governments around the world. I think that this ties heavily in with our current presidential
election. The world always watches the American political stage but I think that this year many
more people are watching their election. I also think many of these people are watching in fear
that Trump will be elected. In turn as an American I watch the political stages of countries such as
China, Russia and more recently Brazil. I think that this shows how as a global people we are
starting to recognize the impact

John Winthrop Contributions
My paper will be on John Winthrop who I chose because of the impact he made on America as
we know it today and because of his Christian background and influence. I was initially interested
in him because he was one of the major players from Europe who caused this nation to be
founded under God, if you will, and is clearly an influential man in American history. Now that I
have read more about him I realize he played an even larger role than I imagined. John Winthrop
left all that he knew to go spread the gospel and create a city on a hill to shape a nation and
despite all the hardships he faced, he never abandoned his efforts or ideals and that is a man I
would love to talk to and learn from. John Winthrop is a significant figure in American history
because he, along with a few others, laid the foundation for America as we know it today and put
in place many of the ideals and principles that we still base our government and lives on in the
present. Winthrop was with the group who were the first to govern a colony from within the colony,
helped introduce and influence the people to adopt a government in which the people ruled and
elected those making the laws and ruling over them, introduced the idea of separation of Church
and State, helped establish a program of public and private education and a grammar school in
Bostonas early as 1635. Some people even call John Winthrop the Father of New England and
America s Forgotten Founding Father. If I could actually come face to face with John Winthrop,
one of the questions I would ask him is Why he would move to America to start the Massachusetts
Bay Colony when he was doing well where he lived in England and knew the great risks of
going? To this question, I believe that Winthrop s initial and main reason would be that it was
God s plan and purpose for him in order to spread the gospel into those parts of the world and
become an example, a city on a hill, for the rest of the world. I believe he would answer this way
because of the things he writes in a Model of Christian Charity and because he had come upon
some hardships in England around this time that he said he believed were God s way of preparing
him to be willing and open to

Satire And Humor In Billy Wilder s Classic Sabrina
Many of the greatest directors and producers started as writers like best known director Billy

He was one of the many critics to review the film Sabrina on September 23 1954. I agree much
with what he had to say about the film. The movie had humor, romance, and commentary on the
social class. Billy Wilder s focus on movies was shown throughout his work. Crowther had said
For Sabrina we might as well say it and get to over with, now is, in our wistful estimation, the
most delightful comedy romance in years. (Crowther 1954). I was not around during the time
Sabrina had been released but had I been, I would have to approve with Crowther to say Sabrina
was a great romance comedy movie. The film brings attention to the social class in the 1950 s as
Crowther comments And its deftly sophisticated plotting of the ways of a man with a maid...
(Crowther 1954). Crowther brings forward the message of the social note because it s frowned
upon for a wealthy man to be with a lower class woman. Director Billy Wilder knew what was
frowned upon and brought it to attention anyway and this is what made him stand out. I didn t
see too much social commentary in this particular film. I saw more romance and comedy more
than anything throughout the film. I can see where Crowther had seen the social issue but in my
opinion I think it was limited in the film. Wilder s career hit over sixty films for more than fifty
years. Samuel Billy Wilder was one of the greatest directors of all

with other three dance performances, зҐ rite зҐ by Ziying Cui and Untitled Chopin Solo by

There were two impressive uses of bell ring inзҐ rite зҐ. The first one was before the dance began.
A sudden bell sound was a shock to the audience and it attracted people s attention to the
performance, while the second one was after the protagonist kneeled with other dancers
clapping their hands. However, the second bell ring was a warning of the protagonist s leave,
because she seemed very shock and sad after hearing the sound, and she even took several step
back to show how surprise she was. Other dancers on the stage also made reactions to the bell
ring: they all turned to look at her and farewell by making eye contact with her. Therefore, since a
ritual includes actions by specific order, the chorographer uses bell rings as a transition of different
dance sections and builds tension to the

High School Teachers Pros And Cons
Roughly 2.3 million public school teachers in the United States have tenure the right to academic
freedom, without the threat of being fired for unjust reasons. In 1910, New Jersey became the first
state to pass tenure legislation for college professors, around the time when women s suffrage
movements were gaining momentum across the country. Before tenure, female professors were
fired for getting married or getting pregnant or even wearing pants such rights were later extended
to elementary and high school teachers as well. (2). But while gaining tenure for college professors

New York resident Angeles Barragan said that her daughter fell behind due to an incompetent
teacher who didn t assign homework and didn t help her child learn to read. (3) Now, Barragan s
daughter is repeating second grade due mostly to the ineffectiveness of her child s teacher. In the
recent court case, Vergara v. California, a California judge ruled that the state s laws governing
teacher tenure [are] unconstitutional, saying they interfere with the state s obligation to provide
every child with access to a good education. (4). The court case brought forth compelling evidence
as to why the tenure system needs to be either eliminated completely, or radically changed. The
evidence showed that the failure of schools to weed out underperforming teachers led to the pairing
of the grossly ineffective teachers with the poor and minority students, who were already
underperforming. (3) This has been deemed unconstitutional because it violates students rights to
the equality of education. Students in poor areas are forced with some ineffective teachers who
cannot be fired because of their tenure, leading to lower test scores and, on average, lower
graduation rates. In another example, parents in New York are eagerly trying to send their students
to Charter Schools, in an effort to avoid bad teachers that ultimately lead to their students
performing significantly lower than they should be. (The

Robotics deals with the design construction, operation, and use of robots, as well as computer
systems for their control and sensory feedback and information processing. these technologies are
used to create machines that can replace humans. Robots can be used in any situation and for any
purpose as they have no feeling nor heart, but today many are used in dangerous environments
including bomb detection and de activation and in war fields , manufacturing processes, or where

Broken Glass Jewish Essay
Broken Glass Jewish
In 1938, the onset of violent anti Semitic riots in Germany created one of the most horrific
struggles of our time. Not only did this outrageous holocaust bring sadness and death to the Jews
in Germany but also to the ones living here in America. In, The Broken Glass, by Arthur Miller,
we see the lives of three completely different characters portrayed. First, we see Sylvia Gullberg,
who has been a housewife ever since her husband Philip made her quit. She is the first one to be
affected by the news in Germany. Her husband, Phillip, has been hiding from his race ever since
he was a teen, and because of this ruins his marriage and ultimately his life. Lastly, Dr. Harry

director of the Federal Reserve, and you can talk to my wife like she s a man. These are
certainly statements that he would not be saying about his wife if he thought gender wasn t a
problem. As far as their marriage goes, Philip and Sylvia have a very business like relationship.
He feels he is the man of the house, which is why he won t let her work. Unfortunately, this way
of living for so many years has torn Sylvia apart from him. I believe Sylvia Gullberg is the
strongest character throughout this movie. Unfortunately, she too has been living a lie for the
past twenty years as a housewife and now even as she lay paralyzed in bed, fights to make a
difference. Once a businesswoman, she gave up all of that for everyone s sake but her own.
And now after all those years of hiding, she will not do so anymore. One of the most difficult
things she must face is the realization of her husband, Philip, being afraid of his own race.
Sylvia is a very well informed and respected lady. Even Dr. Hyman cannot escape the beauty and
inner drive that she possesses. For example, Dr Hyman tells her he has not been so moved by a
woman in a long time and is unsure if he can continue treating her. Time and time again she is
constantly giving while not ever receiving. Even as she lay paralyzed on the steps of her house,
she keeps saying sorry to her

New York Coaches Case Study
The New York Jets are actively pursuing free agent quarterback Kirk Cousins. With four
quarterbacks expected to go early in the 2018 NFL Draft, here s why Gang Green should not waste
their time signing him.
At the start of the 2018 season, quarterback Kirk Cousins will be 30 years of age. The average
career span of an NFL quarterback with at least one Pro Bowl appearance is 11.7 years as provided
by Statista. Cousins would enter his seventh pro season in 2018. Which would give him five more
seasons left in his NFL career, according to the study.
Some of the past great quarterbacks declined in play at the age of 37. As a study by the Boston
Globe showed. Players such as Dan Marino, John Elway, and Brett Favre all declined in play.

The objective the New York Jetswould want if they signed Cousins, would be to win their second
Super Bowl championship. The one goal that has neglected the organization since 1968.
After the career year that former Jets quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick had in which he led a team full
of high priced veteran players one game away from making the NFL playoffs back in 2015, things
weren t ever the same. The organization recognized that going all out and spending every penny the
team had left in cap space was not the way to success and committed themselves to rebuilding
reconstructing with youth.
In an article written by Eric Allen of NewYorkJets.com, owner Woody Johnson stated the following
in regards to this:
If you want to go to the promise land, you have to go in a certain direction. I think what we have
done over the years is traded picks away and we ve had too big of an emphasis on free agency and

The sky is not really blue,it is a reflection of light. Our eyes perceive it as blue. The sun is the
main power source the earth. The sun may appear yellow or white, but it is a mixture of many
colors. As the white light appears from the sun, it travels through the earth s atmosphere, and
collides with particles from the air(Physics,2015). The reason we may see a blue sky rather than a
brown one during the day is because, Blue is a shorter wavelength and is scattered more than a red

Protein Milk Proteins
Protein
Types of Protein Milk proteins are extensively studied regarding their role in exercise training
adaptations (Hartman et al., 2007; Tang, Moore, Kujbida, Tarnopolsky, Phillips, 2009). Ingestion of
milk proteins following exercise is shown to accelerate muscle recovery, increase glycogen
replenishment, and improve protein balance in a positive manner that allow for increases in
muscular strength and hypertrophy (Cockburn, Stevenson, Hayes, Robson Ansley, Howatson,
2010; Hartman et al., 2007; Tang et al., 2009; Wojcik, Walberg Rankin, Smith, Gwazdauskas,

Thus suggesting that a fast acting protein such as whey is a more appropriate protein source than

Protein and Leucine There are 20 specific amino acids that are utilized to build proteins utilized
in tissue formation, cellular function, and growth (P. J. Atherton Smith, 2012; Fluck, 2012; Wu,
2009). Of these 20 there are essential (EAA) and non essential (NEAA) based amino acids, those
unable to be synthesized and those able to be synthesized within the body respectively. Due to
EAA s needing to be introduced via diet, any decreased consumption of these amino acids would
impair the body s ability to properly translate any cellular proteins (Fluck, 2012). Any increase in
plasma or myocellular amino acids above fasting levels promotes, while transient, an increase in
protein synthesis, and reaches its peak roughly 2 hours following ingestion which allows for muscle
to be receptive to the anabolic effects of protein (Pasiakos M., 2012). The ability for a protein to
aid in muscle mass accretion is largely based on its profile of EAAs. Animal based proteins are
considered complete proteins as they contain all EAAs, while plant based proteins lack certain
EAAs making them incomplete. When consuming an isonitrogenous and isoenergetic serving of
skim milk and soy milk with 18 grams of protein, the skim milk was able to stimulate muscle
protein synthesis to a greater extent, 0.1%

The Unknown CItizen by W.H. Auden Essay
The Unknown Citizen
The Unknown Citizen by W.H. Auden, is a commentary on government and the materialism of
modern man. The poem is written in the form of an obituary inscribed on a monument built by the
government in commemoration of an average, upstanding, and decent community member.
Throughout the passage, the speaker lists facts about the citizen s life which he believes prove that
the deceased was a valuable person. In actuality these facts represent nothing more than the socially
accepted values and actions instilled in society by materialistic views. This makes the government
appear unconcerned with the true thoughts and feelings of its people, seeing them only as statistics.

And if he hadn t lived like this he wouldn t have had his phonograph, radio, car, and frigidaire.
However, it was also this conduct that turned him into a follower, unable to make decisions for
himself. This is shown in lines 23 and 24 when the speaker says, he held the proper opinions for
the time of year; When there was peace, he was for peace; when there was war, he went. He even
had five children, which was the right number for a parent in his generation . He did everything by
the book just like everyone else of this time. In the final lines of the poem Auden uses irony to show
the government s role in creating a certain society. In Auden s eyes the government considers a
working class income, good credit, and a sense of national loyalty and social duties to be the
only things necessary to make one s life complete. He seems to feel that, by insisting on material
wealth, society has given government an opportunity to control its actions by creating a world
in which a desirable lifestyle can only be obtained by adhering to a strict set of ideals and
philosophies. The poem can also be viewed as a spoof on certain aspects of the typical middle class
lifestyle. It mocks what many feel are necessities of modern life and points out man s lack of true
feeling for himself and others. But, most importantly, it paints a picture of a world in which people
are willing to give up their personal dreams,

Bringing The Past With You Short Story

The Consequences of Bringing the Past with You Immediately into Tim O Brien s short story
The Things They Carried the reader is introduced to First Lieutenant Jimmy Cross and the letters
he carried from his past back home. Throughout the story, readers are also introduced to other
items and supplies which were largely determined by necessity (O Brien 1) as well as items
deemed a luxury that each individual soldier carried with him for one reason or another. Pictures,
memorabilia, and personal items all acted as a gateway into a portal which would bring them
back home to the ones they loved if only for five minutes at a time. Although the pictures,
memorabilia and personal items of Cross and his soldiers alike, helped them recall back to an era
much more peaceful, the consequences of bringing the past with you can carry exceedingly
negative side effects.
Within the short story, the audience learns that Jimmy Cross carries letters and pictures from his
crush from back home, Martha. Multiple times within the story Jimmy Cross consults these pictures
and letters to distract himself from the war providing a bit of comfort in his harsh environment.
With progression through the story, readers find Jimmy Cross continuously reviewing the pictures
and letters from his dear Martha, letting his mind drift off thinking about her, distracting him from
his duties at hand. These distractions happen more and more often, eventually leading to the most
harrowing consequence. First Lieutenant Jimmy Cross s divergence from his important tasks at
hand, result in Ted Lavender being killed while under the supervision of Cross himself. This
being the key turning point for Cross, as he starts to realize his lapse in judgment and focus, had
directly cost the life of one of his soldiers. This resulting in him discovering that the pictures and
letters from Martha, he was using as hope for his future back home, and comfort from the issues at
hand, were the stemming source of all his problems and distractions, which ultimately cost the life
of his soldier. Because of this realization, Cross burns the pictures and letters from Martha, which
he was holding onto in hopes that she

cares only about his scientific work. Giovanni notices Rappaccini s beautiful daughter, Beatrice,
as falls in love. They meet with each other several times and Giovanni realizes he has become
poisonous, as plants are dying in his hands. Baglioni reveals that Beatrice has grown up
constantly exposed to poison and is poisonous herself, so he gives Giovanni a vial of medicine to
give to Beatrice as a cure, but when she takes it she promptly dies. Literary critic Roy R. Male
introduces the involved nature of the story and expresses, This complexity manifests itself first in
the objects of the garden, the Eden of the present world (Male). Just like The Birthmark, Rappaccini
s Daughtertells of death caused by human pride, but this is trivial. The allegorical nature of this
story lies in its biblical connection. Rappaccini s garden symbolizes the garden of Eden and the
story and its characters directly follow that of the creation of man, the creation of sin and the
breakage of worldly perfection. Giovanni represents Adam, Beatrice is Eve, Rappaccini plays
God and Baglioni acts as Satan. Giovanni and Beatrice are Adam and Eve since they are two
innocent characters who fall victim to the deception and sinful malicious intent of Baglioni.
Rappaccini is God because his primary role is to create and construct. Since Hawthorne makes an
allegorical link to the Garden of Eden, the story can be perceived in the context of the New
Testament. Assuming the reader comprehends Hawthorne s connection, they are then able to
interpret a much more involved story with greater insight. Rappaccini s Daughter can be
interpreted as a parable, but can also be seen as the more complex allegorythat it is. Further,
Hawthorne exposes a duality in evil through his allegory. Male

Importance Of Communication Skills In Leadership
Communication Skills and Effective Leadership
Leaders in an organization must be able to understand employee needs, recognize employee skills,
motivate employees, and communicate with employees. If leaders fail in these areas it can
become difficult to maintain a positive work environment. The issue I will address is that leaders
need to poses strong communication skills in order to be an effective leader.
Effective Leadership
Leadership is not any easy thing and being a good leader is even harder. What makes leaders
effective and sets them apart from being a leader and be and effective leader? These are issues
that come up every day in whatever your line of work is there is leadership. There are some
people that are naturally great at leadership and some people that have to learn how to be and
effective leader. As a leader you are in charge of making sure things run smoothly. There are many
different studies and journals on how and what skills are needed in order to be an effective leader
and one thing that stand out amongst all of these is that communication skills play a huge roll in a
leader effectively leading their team. Whether a team is made up of 1 person or of 500 people if the
leader isn t utilizing their communication skills then the rest of the team is going to struggle with
communication. Without communication things tend to fall apart and tend to make leaders
ineffective.

Plastic Pollution And Its Effects On Marine Life
Plastic Pollution
Our waste such as plastic and contaminated water makes its way to the ocean. There, it has a
devastating effect on marine life. 5.25 trillion plastic particles weighing some 269,000 tons are
floating on the surface of the sea (Seltenrich). In Seltenrich s article, The World Bank estimates
that 1.4 billion tons of trash are generated globally each year, 10% of it plastic. Plastics that reach
the ocean will gradually break down into ever smaller pieces due to sunlight exposure, oxidation,
and the physical action of waves, currents, and grazing by fish and birds. (Seltenrich). A marinelife
that is mostly affected is the sea turtles. The sea turtles either consume the plastic or become trap
in it, or even both. According to Lowenberg, ingestion of plastic can result in poor health, reduced
growth rates and reproductive output, or death . Their nesting sites and the baby sea turtles are
also at risk. The baby sea turtles can become trap to the plastic as they make their way from the
polluted shore into the ocean.
Not only are the sea turtles affected, but birds are also affected. 90% of birds have ingested
plastics in the past 30 years (Lowenberg). By 2050, any bird found dead will have plastic in its
stomach (Shukman). Birds have an easily accessible way to obtain plastic because they have an
aerial view, which makes them more likely to consume plastic. Plastic fragments are so tiny that it
gets mistaken as food, such as fish eggs. When a marine

Designated Hitter Essay
Designated Hitter
Do you prefer a bases loaded double that clears the bases and involves an exciting play at home
plate? Or a boring three run homerun where the base runners trot around the bases, while the
defense stands around with dazed looks on their faces? Do you prefer stolen bases, squeeze plays,
and trying to move the base runners to make something happen; as opposed to a team waiting for
someone to hit a homerun? If you answered yes then consider yourself a fan of small ball. The
characteristic of a Designated Hitter is the major difference between Major League Baseball s two
leagues: The American League and the National League.
The American League has many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They are not relied upon to hit home runs, drive in runners in scoring position, or help the team win
a game with their offense. Older players whose careers and skills are on the decline have a chance
to play for an extra year or two.
George Brett, Carl Yastrzemski, Paul Moliter, Dave Winfield, Joe Carter, and Eddie Murray
were all able to extend their careers as designated hitters. This affects the way players are inducted
into the hall of fame. A player with declining physical abilities in the National League will simply
be put on the bench and become a substitute. While in the American League, that same player
could keep getting the same number of at bats by being switched to the Designated Hitter. As a
result, American League players are being inducted into the hall of fame more often because their
statistics are aided by the DH rule. American League Pitchers can go deeper into games because
they don t need to be lifted for a pinch hitter. American League pitchers can concentrate on just
pitching; they don t have to go to the plate and bat. They may be more likely to intimidate opposing
batters by aggressively pitching inside and even hit batters without fear of being thrown at
themselves, knowing that they personally will not have to enter the batter s box and deal with
possible retaliation from the opposing pitcher.
The National League has its own advantages because of its lack of a Designated Hitter. Some
National League statistics have always been higher

Comparing Devlin to Mill.
A Comparative Analysis of Devlin and Mill
It can be assumed that if J.S. Mill and Lord Devlin ever coexisted some intoxicating deliberations
regarding the role of morality in society would transpire. However, time has a peculiar habit of
erecting boundaries amid centuries, allowing us only to presume discourse between the
contemporary and the historical. Consequentially, each individual has an obligation to formulate
his or her own appraisal established through the logistic unification of the particular instant and one
s own conception of idealistic righteousness. But the acquisition of an infallible and tangible
philosophy with universal application would be as obstinate to create as it would to fathom. In such
regard, the apparatus on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moreover Devlin asserts that moral legislation is crucial to maintain a social bond. He maintains
that society has a right to protect its own existence by barring behavior that threatens that existence.
This is distinctly divergent from Mill s perceptions on paternalism.
Mill claimed that there must be unconditional rejection of paternalism by the state, only invalidated
to prevent persons from selling themselves into slavery. Reinforcing his case Mill argued that
paternalistic intervention is unlikely to work because an individual is acutely more aware of his or
her own needs than the state is. Additionally, he argued that it is improbable compulsion would
work. This can also be taken into account in the form of liberty. Mill alleges that an autonomous life
has more value than a life of dependency, since one cannot be forced to be autonomous paternalism
has a damaging effect on an individual. As a contemporarily relevant issue, Devlin indirectly
delivers his rebuttal to paternalism by embodying a stance on homosexuality. He defends societies
right to protect its own existence by vetoing behavior that threatens its sustainability, since
homosexuality is detrimental to society that union has a right to prohibit it. This is consistent with
Devlin s definition of tangible harm , described as a harm that instigates a diminution of the
physical strength of society. When practiced in trivial quantities these activities can be harmless,

Mental Illness In America Essay
The Stigma of Mental Illness in America I consider myself lucky, lucky that I was able to get
help before it was too late. But most times in America the ones that need help the most are afraid
to get it, and we don t know who they are. It could be your frail, quiet, precise mailman, a
constantly changing, moody friend, your very own nervous anxious boss, the rather aggravated
stranger you pass by on the way to work, maybe even the familiar figure looking back at you in
the mirror. But we don t know, and probably never will because of the stigma that is placed on
mental illness. Nearly 25% of America s population deals with mental illness, and frankly, America

More and more celebrities have been stepping out and telling their story to encourage others to get
the help they need. Each year organizations are formed with one purpose in mind; to gain
awareness on mental illness in order to break the stigma. But is that enough? With the media
exuding this stigma like a parasite slowly affecting its prey. With the news constantly exaggerating
these stories beyond their true happenings. With movies using false notions and writing mentally ill
off as extreme violence, unbearable depressives, exaggerated perfectionists, or insane narcissists
with no in between. It is not enough. No matter how much information and knowledge reaches the
population it is immediately crushed by the media of this generation that benefits and profits from
these false depictions. This very stigma that is seeping from the media is mentally poisoning those
who are actually mentally weak to the degree which they are afraid to get help due to fear of not
wanting anyone to know of their condition and being rejected from society. But not getting help
overtime can build up hostile feelings which will manifest itself in another light, and often as we

Analysis Of The Tell Tale Heart
Oftentimes, the most truly despicable villains are marked with indifference towards their moral
reprehensibility. In the Penal Colony and The Tell Tale Heart both elucidate the idea that
corruption, darkness, and immorality alike are unperceivable to the one afflicted. However, while
In the Penal Colony suggests that this blind nature is a result of dutiful honor, responsibility, and
hope, The Tell Tale Heart alternatively submits that it is a result of the possibility of fulfillment.
Distinction between both arguments is found in the way setting and atmosphere background the
action. Both stories are vague in describing the general location and time of the action. Kafka,
however, puts forth some effort in detailing the immediate setting in the scene. He establishes the
story within a deep , yet, small , sandy valley, closed in on all sides by barren slopes (Kafka 75).
Kafka also notes, apart from the Officer and the Travelerthere were present the Condemned...and
The Soldier... (Kafka 75). The valley is oxymoronically both deep and small . The uneven and odd
composition highlights the peculiarity and alien quality the colony exudes to the Traveler and
reader. All that stood out in the valley, both literally and figuratively, was what the Officer dubbed,
the apparatus (Kafka 75). The Traveler is made utterly removed from the setting he enters. The
isolation of the Traveler standing before the machine and three strangers perpetuates an atmosphere

The Effects Of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
In a study done 14 months after a natural disaster, depression was found to be prevalent among
first responders who also were local residents of where the disaster took place. The participants
were from three different groups. The first was 610 local municipality workers, the second was
421 medical workers, and the third was 327 firefighters. All were given a self administered
questionnaire. The results indicate that higher levels of depression are more significant in medical
personnel versus firefighters (Sakuma, 2015)
Psychological
According to research conducted by insert names here, pre employment personality traits can easily
predict posttraumatic stress symptoms among firefighters and military as the symptoms develop.
Job duration and heightened level of emotional stress are also predicting traits among experienced
firefighters. Police officers are considered a high risk group where definite identifying predictors of
post traumatic stress disorder are present. Predictors that were included in the study were the
following variables: intrusions, impairment index, functioning, age and gender (Schutte, 2011).
Intrusions were the significant predictor, as the officers are exposed to high risk trauma repeatedly.

the onset of PTSD (Farnsworth, 2011). A separate study

Ecological Anthropology And Cultural Ecologist
Ecological Anthropology is the study of how humans cope with problems in their environment such
as survival, reproduction, development, longevity or spatial positions of people (Moran, 2008).
Ecological Anthropologist and Cultural Ecologist do not ascribe to environmental determinism
instead they view the relationship between humans and the environment as more possibilistic,
explaining that the process may result in alternative behaviors (Reitz and Wing, 2008; 14). The
Historical Ecological perspective provides a temporal structural and functional framework to a
changing landscape by analyzing how humans alter the environment and how in turn a changing
environment alters humanactivity (Reitz and Wing, 2008; Crumley, 1994). Faunal analysis takes a
prominent role in these ecological frameworks and therefore in Zooarchaeology.
Post Processual (Archaeology) During the 1970s and 1980s the processual archaeologist
rediscovered the concept of culture as a source of cross cultural idiosyncratic variation in human
beliefs and behaviors (Trigger, 2006; 444) that emphasized context, ideology, and symbolism in
what is now known as post processual archaeology (Gibbs, 2000; 67). This influence did not have
an immediate effect on Zooarchaeology; however, in the past 10 years an increasing demand for
an integrated approach has resulted in what is now being called Social Zooarchaeology.

During 750 AD in Central Mexico, The Toltec Empire emerged continuing the Mesoamerican

because it serves as the foundation of the Mesoamerican Civilization s culture.
The Toltec people were founded after the collapse of the city Teotihuacan. They spoke Nahuatl

What Makes Jack Nickolson A Hero
I love scarey stories. If a new scarey movie is out with a really bad villan, I will go immediately.
Most people are wimps and can not handle a loit of blood and gore, but not me. I m thick skinned
and don t close my eyes at all.
Everyone want to badmouth the villian, but he is critical to the success of a story. Without a
villian, you just don t realize how great the hero is. The villian plays many important roles. He
helps develop the plot. He is the antagonist, the opponent, the enemy. usually he loses too, so we
usually get to celebrate victory of good over evil. this makes us all happy, smile, and enjoy the
movie more. The actors love this too because they make more money.
i do not have a favorite villain, there are so many to chose from. Certainly the Joker in the
Batman movies stands out for me. Jack Nickolson plays the part so well. His voice, his makeup,
his actions are just so mean. Nickolson was also very good in A Few Good Men. When he
exploded at the end of the movie, you could feel his anger. An odd choice might be the fiance in

The Writer of When life imitates Video , John Leo has tried to persuade his readers the reason
why violent video games have negative impact on children s character. The first main goal of his
article is to show the relationship between playing murderous games and violent actions. His
second main goal is to make emotional appeal to parents the need to monitor their child from
exposure of graphic violent medias. Most of his argument comes from his personal believe
otherwise not supported by any evidence except making emotional(pathos) and logical(logos)
appeal by trying to associate violence occurred in the Colorado with violent video games. To
further strengthen his argument, he cited the Los Angles Times which describe the characters
children display while watching morbid video games and he tried to link the aggressive
behavior modeled in the game and violent character. He assume the whole society as his
audience. As he stated it, we are now a society in which the form of play for millions of
youngsters is making a large number of people die .He succeeded in writing and informative and
an emotionally appealing article with a potential of convincing his audience against violent
video games. Leo on his writing has tried to persuade readers without putting concrete facts to
convince his readers. Most of his argument is based on personal belief. He have stated some
violence s which was inflicted by teenagers, which he believes, are caused by video games. The
audiences limitation include basic knowledge of video games since his audience include all
walks of the society. He has tried to convey his main passage to his audience with pathos if we
want to avoid more littleton style massacre, we will begin taking the social effects of the killing

against showing violent video games to their children. Ethos directed toward parents. However, his
appeal is not supported by facts with limited knowledge of violent video games. From the reading it

Black Worm
The Lumbriculus Variegatus, or Black Worm, is a species of worm, which belong to the Annelida
family, meaning their bodies are formed of segments instead of jointed legs (Brinkhurst, Gelder,
1991). The Black worm mainly inhabits the European and North American regions, notably in the
shallow habitats, such as the edges of ponds, marshes, or lakes. Black worms diets consist of
vegetation, and underwater microorganisms like algae (Brinkhurst, Gelder, 1991). Black worms
are normally located in the sandy sediments from deeper parts in the water that they inhabit. Black
worms use their head to search for food, while their tales often project upward. The worm does this
to break water tension, in hopes that an exchange between gas and air, along... Show more content

In a typical segment, the ventral nerve cord has four pairs of segmental nerves that extend
laterally and dorsally around the body wall (Stephenson, 1930). Some of the segment s nerve
fibers are sensitive and quickly detect any stimulation to the worms body (Lesiuk, N. M. and C.
D. Drewes, 1999). Other fibers are motor fibers that supply wall muscle cells. The nerve cord
controls the worm s muscles that, in return, cause it to move. Worms use their muscles to crawl
through the mud by getting extra traction from bristles that can be seen from the side of their
body. Worms will rapidly pull back their head or tail if it is touched. Worms that hold their tail up
to the water surface may quickly withdraw it if a shadow suddenly occurs. This is because these
worms have tiny simple eyes (called photoreceptor cells) scattered along their tail segments. In
water, worms can also swim for short distances by making corkscrew movements with their body
(zool.iastate.edu, n.d., n.a.).
The Lumbriculus Variegatus, in recent years had been looked over for classroom and laboratory
use. However, these worms present great promise for researcher and student friendly laboratory
experiments. Black worms have been found to be very helpful and informative in experiments
involved with subjects such as: Physiology, Development,

The Internet And Its Impact On The Web
The Internet has become one of, if not the quickest way to access information since most students
would prefer to turn to these Internet resources first. There s an estimate of 120 million Internet
users in the United States, surfing the web daily. That is why the web has evolved into a more
accessible and user friendly place where a person is able to search for the information they want.
Therefore, it is crucial for a websiteto maintain its accessibility and user friendly characteristic by
keeping a well designed web page, easy navigations through the site, clear printed words on the
page with good color contrast, etc. Furthermore, in order to receive feedbacks from the users
/readers, the website would require a feedback system and user s support to allow the users to
express their opinions of the website which is very valuable in order to improve the web page. A
great example of a website which contains a lot of these characteristics is CollegeAtlas.com. First,
the website has tons of information regarding Colleges, which is already helpful towards students,
as the largest group of people who uses the internet. CollegeAtlas contains information for
different colleges, as well as options to help find a suitable college for the student s education
needs. As one can see, at first glance, the site has a lot of labeled categories where the user can
clicks on and explore located on the top of the web page (See image below).

It is remarkable that, for about 60 years thereafter, the High Court managed to pull on with just 7
Judges, although with advancing years, the laws and the litigation both multiplied. There were no
indications that this limited Bench was found inadequate to cope with the work, till about 1919.
With the armistice at the termination of the First World War, there was sudden spurt of litigation
in the City of Bombay. The number of Suites filed on Original Side, which during War had
dwindled down to about 500 rose to about 7000, that the Prothonotary found it difficult to
prepare daily boards for 3 Judges. It was only then that an additional Judge was demanded and
was grudgingly granted . Bombay was lucky or unlucky in having at this crisis a Chief Justice of
exceptional caliber, Sir Norman Mcleod, who instead of multiplying Judges preferred to massacre
suits and appeals.
The Charter of the High Court also made it the supreme and final court of appeal in all cases, civil
and criminal, decided by inferior courts, except such as possessed the requisite importance,
pecuniary or legal, demanding a further appeal to the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council.
Ever since the Constitution of the Privy Council as the Court of ultimate appeal from British

Business Research Applications Paper
Research is one of the most essential aspects that influence decision makers of many companies.
These decisions are based on facts. These facts are verifiable and can be replicated. Good research
follows these standards of the scientific method. The characteristics of the scientific method of
research are: 1) Purpose clearly defined 2) Researchprocess detailed 3) Research design thoroughly
planned 4) High ethical standards applied 5) Limitations frankly revealed 6) Adequate analysis for
decision maker s needs 7) Findings presented unambiguously 8) Conclusions justified 9) Researcher

In addition, these researchers often seek out people who are well informed on the topic, especially
those who have clearly stated positions on controversial aspects of the problem (Cooper Schindler,
2006, p. 63). Both of these methods are viable; however, they could be biased based, depending on
the participants. Using them in conjunction with one another can supersede the bias and objective
data can be retrieve, which proved to be extremely useful. Another research method that Analytic
Services, uses is a survey that is usually conducted and distributed by the human resources
department at least once a year. This is the Employee Satisfaction Survey. This survey consists of
about 10 questions ranging from how you would describe your work to upper management
visibility and a rating scale of one to five. A score of one would mean the participant strongly
disagrees and a score of five means, that the participant strongly agrees. The last question requires
the participant to write a summary on how he or she would improve their department or division.
This survey has caused much dilemma for management because they receive precise steps on
improvement but never put the suggestions in place. For instance, the finance department has a
high turnover rate, this has been happening for the last eight years. The controller has been
terminated, the account manager resigned, the lead accountant resigned, the contracts

Melting Pot Myths
Final Essay The myths of this chapter were all interesting, but two of them were especially
noteworthy. The Myth of the Melting Pot and of the Myths of Freedom were the most significant
and far reaching myths of the book. These are myths that every American has engrained in their
minds. Ever since birth Americans are told that they live in a free country with a diverse cultured
society. But these myths are misleading. The myth of the Melting Pot and of Freedom in accord
with the other myths mentioned in this book deceivingly make the United Statesappear to be more
equal than it actually is. The Myth of the Melting Pot says that the United States is like a melting
pot of cultures and ethnicities. A melting pot in this case would consist... Show more content on

The country lacks the freedoms that were originally promised during its formation and also
specific freedoms that would have been reasonable to establish during this day and age. First of
all, the country lacks one of the rights promised in the First Amendment, which is the freedom
of press. In The Decline of American Press Freedom , Anne Applebaum explains many instances
where freedom of press was restricted. One of these restrictions was in Yale where the
University Press was not allowed to publish their book due to the controversial topic it was
discussing. The book talked about the events following the publication of comical depictions of
the Prophet Muhammad in a 2005 Danish newspaper. The university said that the publication
was too much of a safety threat and should not be published. (638 646) In this case, safety was
valued more than a promised liberty. Next are the liberties that were never established but should
be. Lori Andrews, in her piece George Orwell... Meet Mark Zuckerberg , explains how all people
s internet activity is distributed to many outside entities such as advertising companies. She
supports her claim by including leaked search logs of real people to show to what extent that these
people record internet users actions. (707 719) As a country that claim it provides freedom, I

Bass Pro Shop Business Plan
The Outdoor World Experience The lighting is darkened deep inside the brambles of the forest
enclosed by high rock walls on either side. A small bridge lies ahead where the rock covering
ceases. On either side of the bridge stand two timber wolves, frozen in a snarling confrontation,
and a small beaver sits motionless, peering from under the bridge unsure as how to proceed, and
further across a family of ducks, unlike the wolves and beaver, move around gleefully, quacking
at each other in a small pond. Farther up the rock walls there is a rock climber, forever stationed
in the high wall side. On the one side of the bridge it leads to a spacious room full of fly bait and
assorted tackle. The other side leads to a wide space, displaying an aquarium of Colorado native
fish. This kind of environment, discreet, yet very played out, lines the entirety of Bass Pro Shops,
encompassing the serenity of nature into their layout of products, and morals of business etiquette.

MillВґs Construction on Representative Government Essay
Mill s Considerations on Representative Government in one sentence: Ideal, yet practical
governmental governance can be realized only though the democratic governance of a specially
trained and experienced few . Mill is an elitist. How can he be an elitist when he dedicates the first
two chapters of his essay to praising the virtues of popular government? by surreptitiously
advocating for elitism in the subsequent sixteen chapters. In these sixteen chapters, he manages to
maintain the democratic façade he develops in the first two chapters while championing elite rule
by promoting a governmental scheme in which the people are theoretical supreme, but practically
play no role in exercising authority. The first instance of this dichotomy... Show more content on

It is clear Mill wishes to restrict the business of ruling to those of superior mind ; the only role he
permits ordinary people to play in politics is that of choosing a limited amount of those who
actually rule. Even for this task he doubts the ability of ordinary people, and therefore prescribes the
aforementioned suffrage restrictions and modifications. One of the mechanisms Mill uses to
maintain a democratic front while advocating for elitism is his doctrine of cultural evolution. The
crux of this doctrine is the notion that there are different stages of moral and intellectual
advancement through which a people may progress.. By claiming that a people with the

Similarities Between Gemilut Chasidim And Tikkun Olam
Jewish ethics are inspired by the Sacred texts and are expressed in several different ways. Ethics
have been derived from the Torah, and Prophetic visions, and are expressed through practices
like Gemilut Chasidim and Tikkun Olam. The Scared Texts teach that Jews should be open to
serving the poor and many mitzvot command Jewish people to address the needs of the poor.
Gemilut Chasidim is how adherents respond to the call of God to serve others. Literally, giving of
lovingkindness Gemilut Chasidim is a Jewish practice whereby adherents are required to give their
time in service of others with no expectation of reward, as the Torahcalls them to do. Deuteronomy
15:10 says You shall give to him freely, and your heart shall not be grudging when you give to
him. Acts of social justice are referred to as Tikkun Olam.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The concept varies between the different variants, Orthodox Jews interpret it as overcoming
idolatry while Conservative and Progressive Jews believe that it as social justice. Different variants
of Judaism express their commitment to Gemilut Chasidim and Tikkun Olam in different ways.
The National Council of Jewish Women is an example of progressive Jews coming together to
pursue justice for all people. The NCJWA has many programs which support disenfranchised
women both internationally and domestically with projects aiding victims of assault, displaced
peoples, and handicapped children. The members of NCJWA are inspired by their faith to serve
the less fortunate and seek justice across the world. They have sought to bring the world closer to
God through acts of love and through their works of social justice, they have completed acts of
Tikkun Olam and Gemilut Chasidim. Many Jewish ethics have been derived from proverbs and an

Karl Marx infamous work called the Communist Manifesto has changed the way individuals see

developed by the French. Individuals in this specific type of society are in charge of social
production and labor. The bourgeoisie have had an old antiquity with transforming how societies

Historical materialism plays a key role in deliberating the relations between economic production
and everything else that falls in society. Later in the Communist Manifesto, Karl Marx discusses
the concept of religion and how it ties into this image of capitalism. According to Marx,
capitalism is the worst situation any society can be placed with in. Religion plays another big role
in instigating materialism in such a society. Karl Marx adopted the concept of creating a division
of labor which works in a classless society, in order to determine which individual is capable of
what job. The transition between communism and capitalism involves the financing of personal
relations such as the relation of man and nature. The Proletariat, or also known as, the people go
hand in hand with the Bourgeoisie in a capitalist society. The justification of exploitation,
globalization, homogenization of culture, urbanization and political centralization all are
consequences of capitalism which Karl Marx warns capitalist societies

Nurse Turnover And Nurse Retention
Nurse Turnover and Nurse Retention

NURS 411.01 Issues and Leadership in Nursing
Delaware State University
The nursing shortage in healthcare has been a highlighted issue for many years. With the ever
growing health care system, hospitals and healthcare facilities often find themselves searching for
ways to acquire new nurses and retain their very own. Throughout the years, the number one
solution to this problem remains the same: decreasing nurse turnover, and increasing nurse
retention. This paper discusses the causes of high nurse turnover rate, the negative effects on health
care, and ways to improve the turnover rate. Before we can examine the consequences of high
nurse turnover, we must examine the reasons nurses choose to leave their employer and look
elsewhere for work.
According to Hunt (2009), feeling overworked is the number one cause for nurse turnover in health
care settings. Other reasons at the top of the list include, lack of support from employers and few
opportunities for advancement. Due to the nursing shortage, staffing has been an issue in many
healthcare facilities. As a result, units are consistently short staffed, causing nurses to feel
overworked and unsupported by management. Cline (2004) highlighted nurse frustration when a
participant in the study stated, When you re constantly short staffed and feel your managers aren t

likely level of income to be obtained in the future for the company. SI is different than NI as it does
not include the irregular items in the actual year NI.

Civic Mirror
While it s true I had a blast using the Civic Mirror, and as much as it taught me about how
Parliament passes laws and the political process, it has some serious omissions: there is no
Governor General, there is only one level of government, and there is no Senate.
The Governor General in Canada represents the Monarch (Queen Elizabeth II) and acts as the Head
of State (the highest ranking position in a sovereign state) in Canada and abroad. This is a
significant position because it is the highest position in Canada and because it represents the
Monarch, which has the highest authority. Personally, I do not think this is a position that needs to
be included in Civic Mirror. Firstly, there is no Monarch in Civic Mirror. However, for the purpose
of the game, the Governor General could act on his own without the Monarch, but that wouldn t be
as accurate to real life. Plus, what would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This level, as it is named, deals with laws that affect Provinces or Territories. This level usually
is involved with health care, education, natural resources and road regulations. The significance
of this level is second to Federal government, but should not be ignored. This level controls entire
provinces, including the cities within them. Now, Civic Mirror isn t large enough to effectively
support provinces, and so a provincial government wouldn t really fit in a classroom. However, if a
much larger scale version of Civic Mirror was developed... Again I ll get to that at the end of this
review.
Last but not least is the Municipal government. The Municipal government has everything to do
with cities, towns or districts (municipalities). Municipal government is responsible for parks,
libraries, water systems, local police, roadways and parking. Municipal may be the lowest scale
level of government but some things they are responsible have the potential to affect many citizens

  • 2. Limescale Research Paper Whether you have a tankless water heater or a standard water heater, they can develop limescale. Limescale causes rock layers to form on the bottom of the tank, which will make the heater run less efficiently. A water heater that has lime buildup commonly make popping or hissing noises. It is possible to remove the limescale by following these tips. Prepare to Remove the Limescale To flush limescale from the water heater, gather: rubber gloves scrub brush adjustable wrench funnel garden hose wire coat hanger pipe compound descale solution Shut off an electric water heater from the main electrical panel. Straighten a wire coat hanger, and insert the pointed end into the drain valve. Clean as much limescale as possible with the wire, and replace damaged valves. Connect a garden hose to the drain valve, and lay the free end of the hose in a sink or outside. .Ensure the hose has no kinks and slants down. Allow the water to drain, which commonly takes about forty minutes. If the water seems slow, shake the hose. Clean the Tank Find the anode rod, a recessed bolt, which is commonly on top of the water heater. Remove the hex screw with an Allen wrench., and set the parts aside. Fill the tank with three or four cups of apple cider vinegar. Apple cider vinegar has acidcontent that breaks down limescale, which white vinegar lacks. Let the vinegar stay in the tank for twenty four to forty eight hours, but no longer than forty eight hours. Set a bucket under the drain valve, and keep the drain valve open, so the solution will pour out. Flush the tank with clean water to rid the system of vinegar and remaining lime scale. Check inside the drain valve opening for lime scale remnants, and scrape them with wire. Rub some pipe compound on the drain valve threads, and reinstall ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Spanish Cuisine Of Spain The culture of Spain is very diverse and lively. It is filled with beautiful colors like the dresses of the Flamenco dancers, or the decorations in the late night fiestas. Last year my school had a foreign exchange student from a little island off the coast of Spain. Her name was MarГa. She told us all about the crystal blue water that surrounded her island, and the fiestas her and her friends and familywould go to until 3 A.M. Spainis a beautiful country, and this paper will explain its most important habits, customs, and differences to American culture. The Spanish cuisineis a mystery in itself. Not only does the food differ from American cuisine, but also the customs of when it is eaten. Lisa and Tony Sierra explain the eating... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The flamenco was the passionate dance of romance. Finally, the Paso Doble was a simple one step dance. Most of the literature we talked about was poetry, prose, or drama. For one of our units my teacher made us write out our own fairytale, and we had to read it to the class. One of my favorite websites I found for information was commisceo global, and they explained the cultural aspects of Spain. 94% of Spaniards are Roman Catholic, and usually in many small towns, the biggest, grandest building in the town is the church. Also, most holidays were created for religious reasons, like Three King s Day (January 6) or Holy Week (late March early April). When MarГa was in Minnesota she did not go to church on Sundays, but she still participated in our local youth group. The next cultural aspect this website focused on was family and gender. It explained that most families consisted of immediate and extended, which helps with financial stability and raising children. Children were also one of the topics focused on. They say that children were the prized possessions of the families. They usually started school around 6 and went to school until they were 16. After school, they could either join the workforce, further their educations in high school, or do vocational training. Adult men and women had their own roles while their children were in school. Although they shared the responsibilities of parenting and house work, women were usually in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Joseph Stalin vs. Maximilien Robespierre Essays Robespierre is known as possibly the greatest leader of the French Revolution. Stalin is known as one of Russia s greatest leaders. There are many differences and similarities in each of their reigns as leaders. Both used economic plans and total war effort as a campaign to further there revolution. Stalinand Robespierre used their revolutions, however, through terror Stalin remained true to his revolution but Robespierre betrayed his. Stalin had an ingenious plan to help his country s economy get back on track. He called this plan the Five Year Plan which consisted of four parts. First was a plan to increase industrial output in five years because Russia was far behind the Great Powers of Europe. Second ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This resulted in extreme patriotism and nationalism amongst the French people. With every great leader there are great supporters as well as great enemies. This was especially true with Stalin and Robespierre. The French aristocracy was a major block for Robespierre because the opposed his love and giving freedom of the lower classes. Robespierre set out a reign of terror directed to those who may oppose the revolutionary government. He became obsessed with his power to control those who could be put to death for opposing him and he executed those who were close to him in power. Eventually he was shut out and executed for betraying the revolution. Stalin similarly executed the minority groups that opposed him. His reign of terror was similar to Robespierre except that Stalin had several key strengths. A few important ones are that he was street smart and connected well with the common people. Another was that he was a great public speaker and could appeal to the masses and majority through his voice. Finally he was manipulative and shrewd, he was able to convince others he was the right leader and he was clever enough to appeal to the correct people. Robespierre used total war effort to help further the French Revolution but gave into terror and power to meet his downfall as one of the greatest leaders in the French Revolution. Stalin developed a smart ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Politics Of The Founding Fathers Time Politics is defined as the activities associated with the governance of a country or other area, especially the debate or conflict among individuals or parties having or hoping to achieve power. I think this definition is perfect for American politics. Our government is constantly changing. There are new members of governmentbeing voted in, committees trying to get their ideas voted into law, and the Supreme Court is constantly interrupting the Constitution in new ways for our ever changing society. This all is included in the debate and conflict of parties trying to gain a foothold of power in our ever changing democracy. I think democracy looks far different today than in the founding fathers time. I am excited to further discuss my thoughts in this reflection paper. The first topics I would like to discuss are from the first chapter. The book briefly touches on the concept of globalization as the increasing communication and interdependence of people, countries and governments around the world. I think that this ties heavily in with our current presidential election. The world always watches the American political stage but I think that this year many more people are watching their election. I also think many of these people are watching in fear that Trump will be elected. In turn as an American I watch the political stages of countries such as China, Russia and more recently Brazil. I think that this shows how as a global people we are starting to recognize the impact ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. John Winthrop Contributions My paper will be on John Winthrop who I chose because of the impact he made on America as we know it today and because of his Christian background and influence. I was initially interested in him because he was one of the major players from Europe who caused this nation to be founded under God, if you will, and is clearly an influential man in American history. Now that I have read more about him I realize he played an even larger role than I imagined. John Winthrop left all that he knew to go spread the gospel and create a city on a hill to shape a nation and despite all the hardships he faced, he never abandoned his efforts or ideals and that is a man I would love to talk to and learn from. John Winthrop is a significant figure in American history because he, along with a few others, laid the foundation for America as we know it today and put in place many of the ideals and principles that we still base our government and lives on in the present. Winthrop was with the group who were the first to govern a colony from within the colony, helped introduce and influence the people to adopt a government in which the people ruled and elected those making the laws and ruling over them, introduced the idea of separation of Church and State, helped establish a program of public and private education and a grammar school in Bostonas early as 1635. Some people even call John Winthrop the Father of New England and America s Forgotten Founding Father. If I could actually come face to face with John Winthrop, one of the questions I would ask him is Why he would move to America to start the Massachusetts Bay Colony when he was doing well where he lived in England and knew the great risks of going? To this question, I believe that Winthrop s initial and main reason would be that it was God s plan and purpose for him in order to spread the gospel into those parts of the world and become an example, a city on a hill, for the rest of the world. I believe he would answer this way because of the things he writes in a Model of Christian Charity and because he had come upon some hardships in England around this time that he said he believed were God s way of preparing him to be willing and open to ... Wilder was known for movies with satire, melodrama, and humor. He wrote to show the reality of the Hollywood industry and the world itself. Sabrina partakes film star Audrey Hepburn as SabrinaFairchild, costars Humphrey Bogart as Linus Larrabee, and William Holden as David Larrabee. The opening scene for Sabrina begins with an extreme long shotof a large house. Character Sabrina begins telling us a story. I agree much with what he had to say about the film. The movie had humor, romance, and commentary on the social class. Billy Wilder s focus on movies was shown throughout his work. Crowther had said For Sabrina we might as well say it and get to over with, now is, in our wistful estimation, the most delightful comedy romance in years. (Crowther 1954). I was not around during the time Sabrina had been released but had I been, I would have to approve with Crowther to say Sabrina was a great romance comedy movie. The film brings attention to the social class in the 1950 s as Crowther comments And its deftly sophisticated plotting of the ways of a man with a maid... (Crowther 1954). Crowther brings forward the message of the social note because it s frowned upon for a wealthy man to be with a lower class woman. Director Billy Wilder knew what was frowned upon and brought it to attention anyway and this is what made him stand out. I didn t see too much social commentary in this particular film. I saw more romance and comedy more than anything throughout the film. I can see where Crowther had seen the social issue but in my opinion I think it was limited in the film. (4). The court case brought forth compelling evidence as to why the tenure system needs to be either eliminated completely, or radically changed. The evidence showed that the failure of schools to weed out underperforming teachers led to the pairing of the grossly ineffective teachers with the poor and minority students, who were already underperforming. Students in poor areas are forced with some ineffective teachers who cannot be fired because of their tenure, leading to lower test scores and, on average, lower graduation rates. Not only did this outrageous holocaust bring sadness and death to the Jews in Germany but also to the ones living here in America. In, The Broken Glass, by Arthur Miller, we see the lives of three completely different characters portrayed. Atherton Smith, 2012; Fluck, 2012; Wu, 2009). Of these 20 there are essential (EAA) and non essential (NEAA) based amino acids, those unable to be synthesized and those able to be synthesized within the body respectively. Due to EAA s needing to be introduced via diet, any decreased consumption of these amino acids would impair the body s ability to properly translate any cellular proteins (Fluck, 2012). The poem is written in the form of an obituary inscribed on a monument built by the government in commemoration of an average, upstanding, and decent community member. Throughout the passage, the speaker lists facts about the citizen s life which he believes prove that the deceased was a valuable person. In actuality these facts represent nothing more than the socially accepted values and actions instilled in society by materialistic views. This makes the government appear unconcerned with the true thoughts and feelings of its people, seeing them only as statistics. We can see this in the subtitle To... He even had five children, which was the right number for a parent in his generation . He did everything by the book just like everyone else of this time. In the final lines of the poem Auden uses irony to show the government s role in creating a certain society. In Auden s eyes the government considers a working class income, good credit, and a sense of national loyalty and social duties to be the only things necessary to make one s life complete. He seems to feel that, by insisting on material wealth, society has given government an opportunity to control its actions by creating a world in which a desirable lifestyle can only be obtained by adhering to a strict set of ideals and philosophies. The poem can also be viewed as a spoof on certain aspects of the typical middle class lifestyle. Throughout the story, readers are also introduced to other items and supplies which were largely determined by necessity (O Brien 1) as well as items deemed a luxury that each individual soldier carried with him for one reason or another. Pictures, memorabilia, and personal items all acted as a gateway into a portal which would bring them back home to the ones they loved if only for five minutes at a time. Although the pictures, memorabilia and personal items of Cross and his soldiers alike, helped them recall back to an era much more peaceful, the consequences of bringing the past with you can carry exceedingly negative side effects. Within the short story, the audience learns that Jimmy Cross carries letters and pictures from his crush from back home, Martha. Multiple times within the story Jimmy Cross consults these pictures and letters to distract himself from the war providing a bit of comfort in his harsh environment. With progression through the story, readers find Jimmy Cross continuously reviewing the pictures and letters from his dear Martha, letting his mind drift off thinking about her, distracting him from his duties at hand. Summary Of The Exegesis Of Rappaccini s Daughter Though the two previously analyzed parabolic short stories assist in showing Hawthorne s writing style and goals, the exegesis of his most convoluted and allegorical story, Rappaccini s Daughter, truly accomplishes this exposition of Hawthorne s work. In Padua, Italy, Giovanni Guasconti rents a room with a view of Dr. Rappaccini s garden. He meets professor Dr. Pietro Baglioni, who tells Giovanni that be must be cautious of Rappaccini since he is heartless and cares only about his scientific work. Giovanni notices Rappaccini s beautiful daughter, Beatrice, as falls in love. They meet with each other several times and Giovanni realizes he has become poisonous, as plants are dying in his hands. Baglioni reveals that Beatrice has grown up constantly exposed to poison and is poisonous herself, so he gives Giovanni a vial of medicine to give to Beatrice as a cure, but when she takes it she promptly dies. Literary critic Roy R. Male introduces the involved nature of the story and expresses, This complexity manifests itself first in the objects of the garden, the Eden of the present world (Male). Just like The Birthmark, Rappaccini s Daughtertells of death caused by human pride, but this is trivial. The allegorical nature of this story lies in its biblical connection. Rappaccini s garden symbolizes the garden of Eden and the story and its characters directly follow that of the creation of man, the creation of sin and the breakage of worldly perfection. Giovanni represents Adam, Beatrice is Eve, Rappaccini plays God and Baglioni acts as Satan. Giovanni and Beatrice are Adam and Eve since they are two innocent characters who fall victim to the deception and sinful malicious intent of Baglioni. Rappaccini is God because his primary role is to create and construct. Since Hawthorne makes an allegorical link to the Garden of Eden, the story can be perceived in the context of the New Testament. Assuming the reader comprehends Hawthorne s connection, they are then able to interpret a much more involved story with greater insight. Rappaccini s Daughter can be interpreted as a parable, but can also be seen as the more complex allegorythat it is. Further, Hawthorne exposes a duality in evil through his allegory. Male ... In Seltenrich s article, The World Bank estimates that 1.4 billion tons of trash are generated globally each year, 10% of it plastic. Plastics that reach the ocean will gradually break down into ever smaller pieces due to sunlight exposure, oxidation, and the physical action of waves, currents, and grazing by fish and birds. According to Lowenberg, ingestion of plastic can result in poor health, reduced growth rates and reproductive output, or death . Their nesting sites and the baby sea turtles are also at risk. The baby sea turtles can become trap to the plastic as they make their way from the polluted shore into the ocean. Not only are the sea turtles affected, but birds are also affected. 90% of birds have ingested plastics in the past 30 years (Lowenberg). Consequentially, each individual has an obligation to formulate his or her own appraisal established through the logistic unification of the particular instant and one s own conception of idealistic righteousness. Mill claimed that there must be unconditional rejection of paternalism by the state, only invalidated to prevent persons from selling themselves into slavery. Reinforcing his case Mill argued that paternalistic intervention is unlikely to work because an individual is acutely more aware of his or her own needs than the state is. Additionally, he argued that it is improbable compulsion would work. This can also be taken into account in the form of liberty. Mill alleges that an autonomous life has more value than a life of dependency, since one cannot be forced to be autonomous paternalism has a damaging effect on an individual. In the Penal Colony and The Tell Tale Heart both elucidate the idea that corruption, darkness, and immorality alike are unperceivable to the one afflicted. However, while In the Penal Colony suggests that this blind nature is a result of dutiful honor, responsibility, and hope, The Tell Tale Heart alternatively submits that it is a result of the possibility of fulfillment. Distinction between both arguments is found in the way setting and atmosphere background the action. Both stories are vague in describing the general location and time of the action. Kafka, however, puts forth some effort in detailing the immediate setting in the scene. He establishes the story within a deep , yet, small , sandy valley, closed in on all sides by barren slopes (Kafka 75). The Effects Of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder In a study done 14 months after a natural disaster, depression was found to be prevalent among first responders who also were local residents of where the disaster took place. The participants were from three different groups. The first was 610 local municipality workers, the second was 421 medical workers, and the third was 327 firefighters. • 29. Ecological Anthropology And Cultural Ecologist Ecological Anthropology is the study of how humans cope with problems in their environment such as survival, reproduction, development, longevity or spatial positions of people (Moran, 2008). Ecological Anthropologist and Cultural Ecologist do not ascribe to environmental determinism instead they view the relationship between humans and the environment as more possibilistic, explaining that the process may result in alternative behaviors (Reitz and Wing, 2008; 14). The Historical Ecological perspective provides a temporal structural and functional framework to a changing landscape by analyzing how humans alter the environment and how in turn a changing environment alters humanactivity (Reitz and Wing, 2008; Crumley, 1994). Faunal analysis takes a prominent role in these ecological frameworks and therefore in Zooarchaeology. Post Processual (Archaeology) During the 1970s and 1980s the processual archaeologist rediscovered the concept of culture as a source of cross cultural idiosyncratic variation in human beliefs and behaviors (Trigger, 2006; 444) that emphasized context, ideology, and symbolism in what is now known as post processual archaeology (Gibbs, 2000; 67). This influence did not have an immediate effect on Zooarchaeology; however, in the past 10 years an increasing demand for an integrated approach has resulted in what is now being called Social Zooarchaeology. Most people are wimps and can not handle a loit of blood and gore, but not me. I m thick skinned and don t close my eyes at all. Everyone want to badmouth the villian, but he is critical to the success of a story. Without a villian, you just don t realize how great the hero is. The villian plays many important roles. In a typical segment, the ventral nerve cord has four pairs of segmental nerves that extend laterally and dorsally around the body wall (Stephenson, 1930). Some of the segment s nerve fibers are sensitive and quickly detect any stimulation to the worms body (Lesiuk, N. M. and C. D. Drewes, 1999). Other fibers are motor fibers that supply wall muscle cells. The nerve cord controls the worm s muscles that, in return, cause it to move. Worms use their muscles to crawl through the mud by getting extra traction from bristles that can be seen from the side of their body. Worms will rapidly pull back their head or tail if it is touched. Worms that hold their tail up to the water surface may quickly withdraw it if a shadow suddenly occurs. This is because these worms have tiny simple eyes (called photoreceptor cells) scattered along their tail segments. • 52. Nurse Turnover And Nurse Retention Nurse Turnover and Nurse Retention Stephanie Williams NURS 411.01 Issues and Leadership in Nursing Delaware State University The nursing shortage in healthcare has been a highlighted issue for many years. With the ever growing health care system, hospitals and healthcare facilities often find themselves searching for ways to acquire new nurses and retain their very own. Throughout the years, the number one solution to this problem remains the same: decreasing nurse turnover, and increasing nurse retention. This paper discusses the causes of high nurse turnover rate, the negative effects on health care, and ways to improve the turnover rate. Before we can examine the consequences of high nurse turnover, we must examine the reasons nurses choose to leave their employer and look elsewhere for work. According to Hunt (2009), feeling overworked is the number one cause for nurse turnover in health care settings. Other reasons at the top of the list include, lack of support from employers and few opportunities for advancement. Due to the nursing shortage, staffing has been an issue in many healthcare facilities. As a result, units are consistently short staffed, causing nurses to feel overworked and unsupported by management. Cline (2004) highlighted nurse frustration when a participant in the study stated, When you re constantly short staffed and feel your managers aren t supporting you at least by saying, Thank you, I know you must ve had a hard ... • 55. Civic Mirror While it s true I had a blast using the Civic Mirror, and as much as it taught me about how Parliament passes laws and the political process, it has some serious omissions: there is no Governor General, there is only one level of government, and there is no Senate. The Governor General in Canada represents the Monarch (Queen Elizabeth II) and acts as the Head of State (the highest ranking position in a sovereign state) in Canada and abroad. This is a significant position because it is the highest position in Canada and because it represents the Monarch, which has the highest authority. Personally, I do not think this is a position that needs to be included in Civic Mirror. Firstly, there is no Monarch in Civic Mirror. However, for the purpose of the game, the Governor General could act on his own without the Monarch, but that wouldn t be as accurate to real life. Plus, what would ... This level usually is involved with health care, education, natural resources and road regulations. The significance of this level is second to Federal government, but should not be ignored. This level controls entire provinces, including the cities within them. Now, Civic Mirror isn t large enough to effectively support provinces, and so a provincial government wouldn t really fit in a classroom. However, if a much larger scale version of Civic Mirror was developed... Again I ll get to that at the end of this review. Last but not least is the Municipal government. The Municipal government has everything to do with cities, towns or districts (municipalities). Municipal government is responsible for parks, libraries, water systems, local police, roadways and parking.
